Samsung Jet
Overall verdict from the Your Mobile Phone Reviews Test Team
We liked so much about the Jet that we find it difficult to highlight its best bits, but we would say we liked its size, its quality design, its reliability, the responsive touch screen & its messaging features, overall this phone is great. Although our only niggles would have to be its three home screen interface & possibly the camera feature is a weakness as it captures excellent quality pictures but this cannot always been seen using the camera capture screen.Generally we would recommend the Samsung Jet to our friends, colleagues & to you as it is a beautifully designed & manufactured phone which we enjoyed testing. We were genuinely disappointed to stop using this phone at the end of our test period.

Our test team gave the Samsung Jet an average score of:
Appearance & Size
We all agreed the Jet is a great looking phone & the majority of our test team liked the overall feel & quality of its plastic casing. We liked the two tone colour on the back of the casing which provides a slightly reflective & ribbed effect, in a rich red & black colour tones. Its high gloss finish gives it an attractive & fashionable look. We all liked the size of the casing & found it easy to use in our single hand especially the female members of the Your Mobile Phone Reviews test team liked its shape & its casing design. Its cube shaped navigation key & call keys are large enough in size, & these keys are placed in the perfect position of us to access using our thumbs. There are not many keys to talk about as the Jet is a touch screen phone, but there is a volume & vibration control on the left hand side of its casing & on the right hand side there is a screen lock key & a capture key. Our test team liked the weight of the Samsung Jet as it feels so good to hold & use although it weighs 110 grams which is not lightweight by any means. Our test team scored the appearance & size at:
Durability & Usability
Our test team thought the Samsung S8000 Jet could withstand the test of time as it has a rather hardwearing casing. We all mentioned the very flimsy cap which is fitted over the mini USB connection port as this flimsy cover will not withstand any rough handling & we felt it needed to be handled with care. Our team test carried out a drop test on the handset & we are happy to report that the Jet suffered no scratches or scraps from being dropped into a carpet & onto a wooden floor from approximately a metre in height. Its plastic & glass fronted casing is very solid, but the cover over the USB port really is its weakness unless treated correctly by a delicate owner. The team really enjoyed the TouchWiz user interface although the three home screens feature did confuse a couple of our team members as it was simply not liked, but generally the interface & the phones usability got the thumbs up from the majority of us. Our comments included, it has beautifully clear icons, responsive touch screen controls, fun to use, colourful screens & easy to manage interface were some of the positive responses & the negative responses consist of, it is too confusing & it's quite fiddly to use.
Our test team scored the durability & usability at:
Battery
Firstly inserting the battery was a pleasure on this phone as the back cover of the Jet was easily removed by prizing open the casing using the small groove at the bottom of the handset, which was quite an effortless task for our team. We have tested the battery in the Samsung S8000 Jet for over a month & we are very pleased that the battery is long lasting & only needs recharging after much use. Like with any mobile phone the battery time varies dramatically depending on features being used. Our testers that surf the Web, used its instant messaging & basically used 3G connectivity did not receive such good battery times as some of our other testers but this is understandable. Our test team scored the battery at:
Camera
We liked the neat & square shaped camera lens which is on the back of the handset with its compact flash positioned beneath the lens, a lovely & simple design. Our team were pleased with the camera usability & the overall good quality of the photos produced, although the photos looked great after we transferred them onto our computer but they didn't look so clear when we were actually capturing them which we feel could be initially misleading for users of this phone. It has many camera options which are all accessible from the main camera screen. We accessed the camera feature by either pressing the capture key once to gain access to the main camera screen or by pressing the menu key then pressing the onscreen camera icon to access the feature. Our test team would say the camera is one of the Jet's main features but we feel this camera feature just lacked excitement. Our test team scored the camera at:
Music
It has a music player with a very stylish music player screen & user friendly touch screen controls. We liked the usability of the music player & many of us access it as a compact widget on our home screen. We loved the flexibility of listening to our music & using this feature suit our needs. When we turn the touch screen to horizontal or vertical mode we enjoyed a completely different view of our music playing feature. Our team experienced good sound quality which can be heard out of the speaker on the back of the casing. We enjoyed having a radio feature but the earphones must be connected to use this feature which prevented a few members of our team using this feature, but generally a great feature to have on a phone. Our test team scored the music capabilities at:
Messaging
Our team liked using the messaging features on the Samsung S8000 Jet as all the messaging options & input methods were user friendly & very easy to control on the touch screen. Some testers preferred using the T9 input method whereas others simply enjoyed using the onscreen keypad when the handset is in its vertical position or when turning the Jet to its horizontal position we loved the full QWERTY keyboard input method. The individual keys on the touch screen QWERTY keyboard are a good size therefore a pleasure to use & could be controlled using larger fingertips. Out team mainly used the SMS message service but found the MMS & email services also easy to use.Our test team scored the messaging capabilities at:
Connectivity & Technology
Connectivity is very good on the Jet & very easy to use. We used Bluetooth® connectivity when transferring music & photos which was an easy task for most of our testers. One of our testers simply preferred the USB connectivity option but this is mainly due to preference. When connecting to the Web our frequent Web surfers found WiFi® technology was good & were pleased with their experience on the Jet. We tested the Jet on one major UK network & experienced good coverage in our local UK areas. Our test team scored the connectivity & technology at:
Screen & User Interface
Its screen is fantastic when considering the price of this phone as it is very clear & provides a bright & colour display. The size of the screen is excellent for our needs & we were all very happy with the screen. It is a fun screen to customise, well actually we had fun customising all three screens, & we did noticed that the screen shows fingerprints but we didn't feel this was a major concern just a quick wipe & it was clear. The three customisable home screens is a nice feature to have but as we mentioned in our durability & usability report the three screens were not liked by all our testers as it caused confusion & one home screen would have been preferred by some of us. The idea of the three home screens is ideal if you wish to use your phone in different modes for example, business mode, home mode & friend's mode for instants, as you can set your home screens accordingly. Some members of our test team just wanted one screen to customise with a mixture of widgets & their favourite contacts being displays, again this is a preference not a problem with the phone design.
Our test team scored the screen & interface at:
