The absolute worst phone I have ever used in my life, saw it in the store & loved the design, was told great things about the features & phone, & have just had so much trouble with it, had to return the phone 4 times now because all it does is freeze constantly, can't answer phone calls. Just the worst, don't ever buy this phone, cannot stress how useless it is.

Got X1i few days back & I am very satisfied with the performance but some things which are annoying are.

- the lock key at the top of the phone, which is a bit difficult to use.
- Sending a message is a hard thing to do, of course it'll take time to be familiar.
- QWERTY key board was working quite well, but keys are very small, but of course then they can't give bigger than this.

The best features are.

- Video quality. It's awesome.
- Stereo is quite good.
- It supports up to 32GB card. That's make it a mini laptop you know.
- Light in weight & small in size. It can easily fill my jeans pocket.

So overall it's a nice phone.

Never write reviews usually but felt compelled to due to the complete awfulness of this phone. I've had it now for 10 months & it is hopeless, keypad lacks sensitivity, screen losing its touch screen capacity in certain areas, battery keeps falling out of the back due to a poorly designed cover. Do not buy this awful phone. Hanging in there until I can get a iPhone now, should have got one last year but stayed with Sony Ericsson as my previous 3 phones were Sony Ericsson's & they were all great! Never again!

I received this phone a good week before the shop had it, I was so looking forward to it pre ordered it weeks in advance. When it turned up was very impressed with it. The saying 'like a kid in a toy shop' is probably the best way to describe me with this phone. However within weeks it had to go back due to the screen constantly turning itself off. The replacement turned up & all was good again. For a while anyway. About 2 months later the phone had to go back once more this time as the phone would not charge, as some part of the connector had broken within the phone. 2 weeks later the phone returned with a promise of all being sorted & updated with the latest software. Several months had passed with little problem. However over the last month or so there has been an increasing long list of problems started to surface.

At least once a day the phones screen goes black & stays black when trying to bring it out of its sleep mode. The phone bleeps a lot but the only way to resolve the problem is to disconnect the battery & reboot the phone.

Every few days the phone freezes when I press the answer button on the touch screen to take an incoming phone. Again this problem is only sorted by disconnecting the battery & rebooting.

When deleting large amounts of texts or emails the phone can take up to 5 minutes before it can be used, & even then it gets confused with simple requests & goes off & does its own thing. Can you guess what is needed to resolve the problem?

The battery cover does not fit the last phone Vodafone sent me properly, so frequently falls off. Further to this the camera has been known to freeze the phone.
I have to disconnect the battery & re-boot this phone at least once a day, I'm already up to the 3rd time today.

Finally the phone has been showing that I have had two unread messages for the past month & a half. This is not the case & even when the phone is cleared of all text & emails it still thinks I have these two unread messages. I have leant to accept when 3 messages are shown, it in fact means just 1.

Thankfully a mobile phone buying Internet company have offered me a fairly decent price for the phone. So as soon as the envelope arrives I will be saying good bye to the worse phone I have ever owned.

I cannot warn people off enough about this phone. I would prefer to eat my own dog than continue to struggle with the Xperia.

First Smartphone I've purchased in a while & I must admit I am in love. It is quirky (as Ericsson always has been) but once you understand the process it is a wonderful tool. Most importantly it's marries the computing & telephony functionality as well as I have ever experienced.

The most frustrating phone I have ever owned.

Battery useless, 1 day maximum & that's only using it 9 to 5 for work. Got a second battery just as bad.

If the battery is low, which is pretty much every day, it gives you about 30 seconds before it dies completely which is made even more annoying by the fact it then won't charge from flat using anything other than a mains charger which is useful if your on the road which surely this kind of phone is designed for & you then can't use your car charger.

When talking on the phone the slightest touch by your cheek or ear on the touch screen will either disconnect the call or initialize some other feature you don't particularly want when talking.

Every time you do charge the phone it seems to also have a mind of its own disconnecting asking you to enter your pin again 5 times was the best I got.

A few good features but nothing you wouldn't get on any other phone with Windows mobile I would expect.

The QWERTY keyboard is pretty usable & I looks good but that's about it I am afraid.

Avoid if you are using for business just doesn't cope with even minimal usage through the day. In fact even if you only make a dozen calls & send a few emails I still don't think you would for much better.

Can't comment on the phone myself as have never used it but had to comment on the review by Paul from Liverpool.

Quote. The outer casing is liable to get scratched if you put it in your pocket with keys (not as bad on the silver version).

Dude seriously. LOL. If you put keys in the same pocket as your phone it's going to get scratched, no? Or were you expecting the screen to have been cut from an enormous diamond?

Thanks for the laugh, that tickled me!

When I received my X1 I made some assumption about X1 within first 3 days, problem started which were overheating & crashing over next 3 to 4 month. The X1 started to fall apart, my option is it is not robust enough as a business phone based on my experience I would not recommend this phone.

I have to add, I had both W8501 & T610 both phone still working but the thing that I found most annoying was the Sony Ericsson team dealing with my problem, wasn't very good if it wasn't for Vodafone I would still have this horrible phone. My view worst mobile ever.

I've had this phone for about six months now & it's probably been the longest period of mobile phone frustration I've ever had.

When I first saw it on the market, I was encouraged that Sony Ericsson finally created a smart phone with a useable keyboard. Windows mobile was also more attractive over the Symbian software. Right after purchasing, I loaded a push email application & got started. Then the problems began.

The OS hangs & I frequently have to remove the battery & reboot. The text messaging options are fewer than the P1 (difficult to reply & forward) & there's always several seconds of hanging when launching or closing apps. The screen also goes black for periods of time during which the phone may take incoming calls, but nothing else. I've had the black & the silver version & the black back plate scratches easy. I didn't even keep it in my pocket with keys & it still looked like the phone was 5 years old after a couple of months.

Finally, the speakerphone is useless (volume too low) & finding the lost city of Atlantis is simpler than trying to find configuration options.

I've since given the phone to my 13 year old son to wow his classmates. I figured that if I had so many problems, he'll cut down on his bill since he'll never be able to figure out how to use it.

I adore this phone, couldn't live without it. The keyboard is spaced & easy to use not like my last phone (KS360) the panels are simple once you learn how to use them & download more. This phone is brilliant, go get it :).

I am so fed up with reading negative reviews that I have decided to tell you the trust about my current phone which is the Xperia X1, in a nutshell it is a great looking Smartphone, good features once you get the hang of how to use them (which does take long to understand), fun to use & well worth the money I pay on a contract for it.

Please people try & look for the good in your phones & not just find the faults.

I would recommend the Xperia X1 to business users & I will be getting the X2 as soon as I see it available here.

Cheers for reading, Gary. Be Happy :).

I have used this phone for about 8 months now & feel I have had enough time to evaluate it. First of all it is a stylish looking phone & has all the current features you could wish for. As with every Smartphone it does have several issues. I have used most of the features on this phone & honestly find they all work very well. The outer casing is liable to get scratched if you put it in your pocket with keys (not as bad on the silver version), after sending a text the screen does freeze for 1 to 2 seconds & the icon size's on the screen could have been made adjustable as accurate selection is difficult without using the stylus. I previously owned the K800i & find the camera is of a similar quality with good lighting but the flash on the K800i makes darker scenes more vibrant. One other gripe with a phone of this status is the low volume of the exterior speaker (this could have been louder). Maybe the next version will address these issues. I don't regret getting this phone it has some issues but I still regard it as the best phone I have ever used or tested.

Got this phone a few days ago & will probably do another review in a month or so time when I have truly been able to try out all its features.

So far phone has been great, new software upgrades seem to have sorted most of the lagging admittedly I have come across a couple but only while setting up the phone which resulted in me running multiple programs at once without realising.

Every phone I have owned has run on Symbian OS & I was a little worried about changing to windows mobile but I shouldn't have been, admittedly a bit complicated at first but is full of features & applications.

The whole panels idea is a great idea but to be really useful needs more third party developers to get involved the Xperia, media, & FaceBook panels are the only ones I tend to use.

The keyboard is what a lot of people currently judge windows mobile phones by & I have to say although smaller than it looks in pictures it is incredibly thumb friendly & easy to use.

The camera was a little disappointing I must say, the light is impressive & on the rich display the photos look great but it doesn't have enough features but with any luck a panel may come out to sort this.

Lastly I must mention the speaker, the quality & max volume of it are moth impressive. I must however note I use an iPod touch & so sometimes download my music from iTunes the phone will not play this because it is MPEG4 & so you must change it.

All in all great phone :).

NOTE: I GOT MY PHONE FORM O2 & IT DID NOT HAVE Google MAPS INSTALLED. I KNOW OTHER O2 CUSTOMERS HAD the SAME PROBLEM I CANNOT SPEAK FOR OTHER NETWORKS, IF YOUR PHONE DOES NOT HAVE Google MAPS INSTALLED SIMPLY Google IT & DOWLOAD IT ONTO YOUR COMPUTER SINCE IF YOU TRY TO DOWNLOAD IT ON YOUR XPERIA IT WILL COMPLAIN IT won't WORK ON IT WHEN IT WILL, TRANSER IT VIA USB OR Bluetooth ONTO YOUR XPERIA & INSTALL IT & IT SHOULD WORK FINE.

I have had nearly every Sony Ericsson PDA, P910, P990, W960i & I have loved them & still actually have them all. Before hand I had the T39, T39i, T610i the list goes on.

Sony Ericsson then decided to add Windows Mobile instead of the symbian operating software. If you've always had Windows Mobile & liked it you'll love this phone however if your used to symbian you'll hate it.

IT defeats the whole point of being a phone to make a phone call you have to go through at least 3 menus & get out the stylus. The only other option is to voice dial & I don't want to do that.

When purchased this phone seems beautifully made however after 3 months of owning it the battery cover is scratched badly, there's a dint in the top where the stylus missed & cut into the edge of the phone, & the edges of the phone get easily damaged when dropped.

Then there's the freezing & lock ups making a call sometimes it partially freezes part of the screen with the other half still working with the goldfish swimming round, the camera occasionally locks up the phone, messaging too, in Transcribber keypad & touch letter mode it lags so badly it misses half of your sentences.

This phone was hyped up so badly by Sony Ericsson & is such a letdown! I hate it so much I am not going back to Sony Ericsson after being with them for nearly 10 years, all the way back to when they were just Ericsson. What happened with them they were at one point the best on the market!

I just want to remind anyone that thinks Apple & MAC is copying Windows, that Windows is a copy of Apple releasing the Macintosh with the friendly icons on the desktop for personal users. If the iPhone works better, which it does, it's because they are the original not the imitation. If you want an iPhone, if you love your iPod touch, buy it. You'll just wish you did the whole time you fiddle with what you SETTLED for instead.

Through working in a mobile store I have had the advantage of being able to try out numerous types of Smartphone. When the X1 was released I knew straight away that was my next phone.

Definitely the best QWERTY keyboard I've seen, & there's absolutely no need to use the touch screen while it's down. The panel idea is genius. It's nice to escape the windows environment now & then. I am looking forward to the range of panels to be released towards the end of the month.

The panels are a joke what business man wants fish swimming around his screen! They can be uninstalled if you don't like them. & what kind of business man places an explanation mark at the end of a question?

The touch screen is fantastic, I've not even had to use the stylus so far.

Windows Mobile 6.1 merges your contacts with those on MSN, making communication a breeze & pushes your hotmail to your device without subscription & 6.5 is due out soon!

I could go on all day. Nice on HTC. Erm, Sony Ericsson :).

I got X1i few days back & I'm very satisfied with the performance but some things which are annoying are.

Had this phone for two months & after the initial WOW factor, it's not good to live with. Yes there are some great features, but at the end of the day it is way too slow at responding to touch commands.

Got the phone on Vodafone as free upgrade on £30 a month, but can't connect to Vodafone LIVE. Every other website is fine, once they finally load.

Keyboard is great for texting & writing emails, although it did take a couple of weeks to get the hang of.

The responsiveness of the panels is frustratingly slow, especially compared to my iPod Touch (which is sweet).

To sum up the phone in three words SLOW, UNRESPONSIVE & IRRITATING.

I should have got an iPhone. Sorry people it's NOT GOOD.

This phone is lagging so much. I would give it 100% for design but front buttons can even pull it down to 10% thanks to shape & positioning of buttons & very easy to use touch pad on the middle. That phone stayed with me just for 1 day, I had enough.

Panels, it may take up to 5 seconds before you can do anything with them, a little miss touch can make a big mess.

Keypad (phone) unlock key is located on top of the phone extremely uncomfortable, IMHO.

For good web browsing its screen is a bit too small, iPod screen size has been chosen reasonably right.

QWERTY keyboard can be good to long nailed women, to me, it was easier & quicker to use stylus.

Best side, its voice command software (have to buy separately) but it can be used on any Windows Mobile phone.

Worst side, front keys & touchpad (navigation).

I was waiting ages to get this as an upgrade. I was torn between this & HTC Touch Pro. I wasn't interested in the iPhone & I didn't want a Blackberry. Read the reviews & was a bit worried about some of the comments & how I would like it but I decided to get the X1.

Well to begin with I could not work it at all & this is my first Windows based phone which I guess made it more complicated. It seemed so tedious to do simple things like texting. Once I got used to it it started to make, finally got the hang of it & now I love it.

I think the screen is a good size although, there's the obvious one of the slide out QWERTY keyboard. I've found that I don't use the stylus because the touch screen works really well.

I would recommend this phone but it is fiddly & if you don't have time & patience it could drive you mad.

The X1 is a pure tech phone, I agree with most of you, some actually made me laugh.

N-Series of phones are guinea pig handsets & they all ways will be, N97 ha ha what a joke (I work in the phone industry).

iPhone, Oh please don't even get me started, my U600 is better than your iPhone, I know can you forward me a message or even drag & drop music on to your phone, no no wait send me a picture message instead, are you having software issues yet? Software problems from MAC, well I never! Its windows in disguise.

£45 per month on Vodafone that includes Internet it's an insane tariff, the handset is sort after. Oh yeah Its windows 6.1 why should they change there the look of the GUI to me the screen & size makes the GUI (graphic user interface) look neat & tidy.

Downside, its windows, but at the moment the Storm is doing really bad at the moment, but a soft reset can solve a frozen phone ;).

But let's face it, as a phone its rubbish. If you need quick access to texts or shortcuts to your contacts for sneaky texts at work this isn't the phone for you. By the time you have unlocked it, gone to start messaging options, new, added your contact you have been told off & put on a disciplinary for texting at work! For emails it's great but I never use it. In fact there are so many programs on this phone I don't use I am thinking of selling it.

Got it on Sunday (16th November) the touch screen is really good, stylus pen with it makes a difference. It's quite hard to get used to. It's now Thursday & I am still getting used to it. The WiFi is great & it also has the GPRS 3G so you can connect to the Internet almost all of the time. Sony Ericsson also have more screen to download for free & the two I downloaded so far are great texting is good with the keyboard. But find the Bluetooth to send things a bit awkward & the speakers & earphone aren't very loud at all if you like listening to music. However the video quality is great, the keypad has a lock button with stops you from dialling numbers or using the keypad by mistake & if you tap the power button on the top of the phone it puts the phone into sleep mode then when you press the power button again it wakes up. I've had it turned on from yesterday morning & used it quite a bit with the WiFi which uses a fair bit of power & the battery is half but if you buying it for music I'd pass, it also has Adobe reader, word mobile power point & excel mobile.

Overall it's a good phone if you use the Internet & like touch screen but if your looking for a music phone I'd find a phone with a louder set of speakers & earphones.

I brought mine two weeks ago & is the best thing I have done, I previously had the Samsung Omnia but found the battery life was poor & bad feature bugs, the Xperia phone has a very good battery, has downloadable panels & the panel features are GROUND BREAKING! The key board is better that the G1 & HTC PRO! Internet speed is very fast yes the screen is a bit small but with phones like Omnia & iPhone is that you can't see the whole screen whilst your texting & you can with the Xperia so what the BIG deal I don't want a widescreen TV in my pocket!

Buy the Xperia you won't be disappointed.

Frankly I am puzzled. I am puzzled by the first reviewer, who said the screen was too small. Surely he saw the screen size before he bought it? Buy a laptop, mate! I am puzzled by those who rate the Omnia above this. The Omnia is much slimmer & lighter, but that's because the build quality is awful. It feels cheap & plasticy, & that includes the screen itself. The Omnia cost me £400 but I've seen better frames on a £40 phone. The smooth rounded sides make it hard to grip, which means it's not a case of if you will drop it, you will, it's just a case of when. The widgets are preset so don't have the features you might want on your home screen, so it's nothing more than a gimmick.

Unlike the X1, the panels are fully customisable & work like a dream, In fact everything works like a dream. The build quality puts it firmly at the top of the tree amongst similar types of Smartphone's & by some considerable distance. £500 might seem pricey to some but you get what you pay for & if you're going to splash out a few hundred quid then go the whole hog & buy the Xperia available now for £500, you will not be disappointed in any way, quite simply the best phone I have ever had, bar none. Just buy one!

I have been using the X1 for 4 days now, it is by far the most responsive Windows mobile device I have had, please don't compare it with an iPhone as you cannot operate this device without the stylus.

There are couple of things Sony Ericsson could have added in the box to make X1 a complete package.

- Memory card, should come with at least a 4GB micro SD card.
- Screen protect, like the one that comes with HTC devices.
- Case, again! Like the one that comes with HTC devices.

I think the X1 is a good device, but I would expect a bit more from Sony Ericsson for this premium price tag.

Too little too late for Sony Ericsson. Bought one 1st day of release from Carphone Warehouse, took it straight back in the afternoon. Felt like I was using an old Ipaq pda! Apart from the Panels & windows view, it's the same Windows mobile, feels outdated compared to what's available now. Sluggish, screen very small, overall operations very fiddly. Camera very bad as is Video. Speaker sound very low & tinny (Blackberrry Bold puts it to shame, in so many different areas.). Just did not understand what I was getting extra for the size of the device. There are loads more phones cheaper & can do same or better. Oh I forgot to mention, the keyboard feels too wide, & keys are too sunk in.

Sony Ericsson do make the best phones by far. I've been using an iPhone for the past ten months & I love it. However, this phone is going to me much better in every way. I have a windows PC at home so the windows on this handset will be a dream come true. The iPhone is great but not everyone wants a Mac PC at home & there are some annoyances. For example, why won't the iPhone see windows (vista) calender? Why do I have to buy outlook 2003?

& who said buy the N96 or Omnia instead? You've got to be joking right?

Nokia phones are just but ugly! Nokia have lost the plot when it comes to design, nearly all the phones are just horrible. They are durable though.

& the Omnia is totally rubbish. It's so cheap & nasty. It's going to break in five minutes.

In reality, the only phone to challenge the iPhone right now is this, the Xperia, & that's it. Forget the rest. & especially forget the Omnia.

The moment I think of buying a new Sony Ericsson phone they say that it's very delicate.

For example in W580i it gives you the keypad, & lights problem.

So please advise me what should I buy X1 or any other mobile.

I would say to you all, save your well earned money & get the Nokia N96 or the Samsung Omnia.

The Sony is well over priced & a 3 mega pixel camera & 400 megs of memory is a joke for a modern super phone.

The Nokia N96 has 8 gigs of memory plus a card slot, A built in free view digital TV tuner, GPS & a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus & face detection, OK it's not a PDA type phone but it's better than the Sony.

If you want a gorgeous windows based phone take a look at the Samsung Sony killer. The Samsung Omnia comes with 16 gigs of memory on Orange or 8 gigs on other networks.

It also has a 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus & face detection.

It's loaded with windows mobile pro edition has GPS that includes Rout 66 sat nav software.

Do the maths.

Hello readers, I have been searching for the ultimate PDA & thought the convergence of a phone & PDA was not a good idea.

However, having come across the Sony X1 several months ago, I realised that perhaps I should wait for the X1 instead of opting for the HP iPAQ 214. The latter does not have any mobile phone support although it can be used with another phone.

What I like about the X1 is the Arc slider, this is almost design perfection (except for the arrow & cursor keys which are not available).

Also, the X1 does have a small screen compared to the iPAQ 214 (4' screen) so that's the disadvantage. I think if a phone is going to be converged like this, the X1 should have a bigger display or a better design to accommodate a bigger display.

Some people may prefer a standalone PDA, at least you can use it without interruption but then it's like carrying two devices everywhere one goes.

I am currently a big fan of the X1 arc slider. & I have gone though other PDA-phones (e.g. Nokia, Apple iPhone, Blackberry (which I think is lacking in design)), HTC (who have apparently developed the Sony Ericsson X1 though Sony say it was their design idea & concept etc). OK Sony have taken a long time for bringing the X1 out into the market, it was showcased I early 2008 & now deemed to appear in the market in mid September (if not earlier). The price of the iPaq is £200 whereas the starting price for the X1 is probably going to be around £300 to £500. I am sure it will come down in price & possibly Sony X2 will follow suit. Since it's the first PDA phone for Sony? , I would like to wait for the second or third generation to iron out early problems (just like the iPhone which is now the iPhone 2).

In conclusion, the X1 will certainly be a hit mainly because of the keyboard design & also the fact that it has Windows Mobile 6.1! It has sufficient phone memory but doubt it will have a large enough ROM for base software installs.

Hmmm, I was just about to pay for the P1i but just kept looking. Personally, I'd just re buy my K750i (yes, all over again) suits my semi techie wants functional but simple taste lifestyle but am shopping for a good all rounder Smartphone to cover new responsibilities as a super multitasking urban young business owner chick, plus managing & coordinating pockets of high powered execs on one or two projects (I.e. Making lots of appearances & presentations in some very plush places).

OK so Xperia might be it though I'd swap the windows mobile for a Symbian OS (keep me out of the eye of the storm).

Have held the P1i & loved it, then spied the HTC TyTN II & wanted it (for the tilting screen when you flip the qwerty open) but can live without that. I'd choose the Xperia over the p1 for the joy stick quick access on the go, HSPDA EDGE, though if I hadn't found xperia, I'd have managed.

But can anyone tell me if it'll record my calls (I really want that) & bar some crazy guys from calling me, & of course, hide my number (Nokia always has that & I really missed these on my K750i)? Also I want multiple alarms (Had that on my old P800 (2004 & lots of it on NEC 2 years ago till recently.) but not necessity. 2 cameras 4 3G video calls & site conferencing etc.

& oh by the way, (I'VE SEEN) NO PHONE is a perfect phone (But looks Xperia'll come close). Also I don't like throwing money away. Call me frugal, or more for less when possible though not sacrificing quality (so am waiting).

Amazing pocket PC, I was wondering why Sony Ericsson did not ever make any phone with windows mobile support. They answered me soon & it was XPERIA X1. I am waiting for it & definitely I'll buy it. I am truly Sony Ericsson & nothing else.

My belief is that there are just two kind of phones in the world Sony Ericsson & Nokia phones. I've being using all kinds of Sony Ericsson phones when it came into existence & neglected Nokia phones. I know much about Sony Ericsson phones, am a fan of Sony Ericsson phones. Currently am using the Sony Ericsson P1 phone. I CAN'T WAIT TO USE the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. WE Sony Ericsson FANS WILL LUV IT, I assure you.

I think that M A A Mehkri says right because Linux OS is always a good protector of virus. Window is not. It would be better if Sony Ericsson uses Linux instead of Window, like Nokia does in N810 Internet tablet. One thing we've to see that what type of Antivirus Sony Ericsson does use in Xperia. It would be best option if they use Norton Antivirus (full version) for window mobile.

I think it would have been better if Sony Ericsson had used Linux instead of Windows mobile. The Windows mobile would mean little or no protection from virus.

Overall the phone looks good but by the size details it looks like it would be a challenge to use the keyboard efficiently.
