Like it, had it for a year & a bit it's very durable. Dropped it about a million times is hasn't broke or cracked once! I do put it down on the sofa & it turns off, but that's probably because it's old. Kind of bad battery, & could do with flash on the camera, but this phone has served me well as I am getting a new one soon.

This phones is great to look at, very light & slim. All the expected features (I don't personally care about the lack of radio).

I did start to experience problems after a few months however. Shutting down for no reason, Freezes if the memory card is anywhere near full, which can be a problem when someone is ringing you & despite how many times you press the bottom to accept the call it does nothing. I have had 3 replacements of the handset & every time the same problems occur. I would recommend the phone if you do not intend to put music on it & fill up the memory card. But why else would you buy a Walkman phone?

My wife purchased 2 of these so that there would be no problems (technically) in communicating with each other from afar. She loves it because of its slim design & video calling facility (which we have never used, but as she says we might). I dislike it because it is so fiddly, easily damaged & not rugged enough. My phone is kept in my pocket & has split the rear casing & bends like a banana, the paintwork & keys are scratched & the screen (like peering through fog). Trying to access features from the initial page takes too long. The music system is OK, as well as Internet, texting & storage facilities, but the alarm system is what I really like it for. Heavy sleeper, but the increasing volume of a bell ringing phone is A number 1. Will be purchasing another phone soon, probably a flip phone to keep keys & screen protected, but will be keeping the W800i by the bed.

Right, here's the thing. This was only my second mobile (my first being a rubbish Vodafone 226) & it was the world to me when I got it. Then I grew up & began to realise that this phone is awful.

The bad things.
- the screen is only 1.8 inch.
- the navigational keys get stuck sometimes
- the camera is rubbish at 2 megapixels & it keeps deleting my pictures from my school trip (up a massive hill).
- the Walkman player can't get all of my songs up straight away, you have to press Play All on the music player option in the file manager.
- It bends (well the keypad bit does anyway).
- When you have the headphones in, & you get a call, the caller speaks through the headphones.
- No 3.5mm headphone jacks.
- IT'S BUTT UGLY.
- the screen scratches but doesn't crack.
- the camera & the Walkman keys on the sides are too far in.
- Not enough themes.
- Battery life is poor.
- Rubber back marks easily.

Enough being cynical, here are the best bits.
- Good quality sound.
- Nice earphones (I wish I could change them! ).
- Ermmm. Don't really know any more good bits apart from the fact that you can store loads of songs

I am so buying the LG KF750'secret!

How can a music phone doesn't have a radio player in it? If you are easy to get bored like me, listening to the radio can be very pleasant. Radio stations have many things that can get rid of the boring situation we have. But this phone doesn't have radio player. So if you are satisfied listening to 1GB music all the time, go for it. Otherwise, go for W610i. It has a radio player & the same Walkman Player. W610i also has LED flash for the camera & can be functioned as torch. Just buy a 2GB memory card, & W610i will be much better than this W880i. It is clear that the slim design sacrifice more than it should be.

You can't really know how SLIM this is until you hold one!

It is amazingly beautiful, I think. It's like a smart Ferrari 6 sleek & cool. Perfect.

It's not the loudest, but I think it's great. The camera is over sufficient & takes nice pictures.

It's a shame about the radio & that's the only thing that separates the beautiful Ferrari & the W880i's.

Trust me. Buy it.

This phone is the best mobile I've ever had, it is superfast on the Internet & has no problem with page content display. Only one downside to this phone, the keys are too small, especially for texting & Internet usage, shortcut keys help a lot when browsing.

I've currently got a Sony Ericsson W910i & it's nowhere near as good as my W880, usual problem of crashing & switching itself off from day one & nothing works. It is slow at connecting to & browsing the Internet as well.

Niggly little faults such as battery life of one day, clips snapping behind keys, battery covers bending & miss fitting. All add up to make a semi decent phone. Less than averagely good (not a word I don't think).

I bought this mobile a few days ago, & everything seems fine. I did worry when there were a few bad & poor reviews but actually if you are thinking of buying this mobile, go for it. It might not be as updated as the w580i (my last mobile which broke as the screw from the slide got jammed) but it is a very good mobile. I suggest you buy this mobile it is VERY Good.

I won this phone off Sony Ericsson over a year ago. I was really pleased to win it, but it didn't replace my K750i no radio or flash (torch) now K810i.

I put the SIM from my work phone in it & I've used it as my work phone ever since. I've had no problems with it, I've dropped it loads of times & it's still working fine.

The keys are small but I am not a text junkie & am really slow at texting anyway so find them OK.

Everyone likes it & people that had the black version were jealous when they saw my silver one.

It's great, I recommend it.

Got the phone on Vodafone pay as you talk for just £79.99 and have had it for just under a week and I am very happy considering all the features it has including sky sports news and the music player. The first charge has lasted five days which is good. The small keys do not present a problem with someone who has small fingers like me although I don't know how people with big fingers would cope. I really like the design, the stainless steel front with black back looks really smart and I can't believe that they could cram so much into such a thin phone. I have had many mobile phones and the screen is by far, the brightest and clearest. The only drawback is that it does not have a 3.5mm headphone socket in the phone, you find these on the N series Nokia's so you have to use the adapter but you can still use your favourite headphones with that adapter so it's not really a major issue. For the price, I would highly recommend this phone.

This is my second phone as my first had to be sent back as it developed a fault ( kept turning itself off ). IT IS SO SLOW.

I want a phone you can pick up & dial, it seems to take days to open the address book & text messages & when you've answered the text message the phone doesn't register that you have so you are constantly thinking you have another text.

Anyway can change in 2 week time & I certainly will not be getting a Sony.

I have had this phone in silver for 7 months & I absolutely love it, the screen is so bright & the features are excellent, when I first got the phone I had read reviews & found some said the buttons where too hard to use & that there had been loads of problems with it, well I find the buttons so easy to use & I haven't had a single problem with it as of yet.

The only downside too this phone is that the camera isn't much good, there isn't a flash & the night mode is rubbish as when you try taking a photo in the dark nothing can be seen. With a decent memory card this phone stores loads of music & photos & videos. Even though I love this phone very much I have decided upon getting a Samsung f700. But I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone.

I absolutely love this phone. The buttons are a perfect size for me & the camera is reasonably good. The only thing I could complain about for the design is the bottom. The paint scrapes away very easily. But that's it.

The only thing that I found was a down point was that there is only ONE Game.

I love my phone. Thanks, Joanna.

I love this phone it is easy to use & I actually find it easy to text with. I got it quite a few months ago & I have had no problems with it whatsoever.

It has great memory great pictures & a great battery & a little phone charm where I keep my lip gloss. It's good because I can turn off the camera noise which is useful.

I like the colour that I got it in & I find the applications very good, but I only got one game. I am too much of a game player though, I think that this phone is great for this price also because its stylish & slim so you can take it anywhere I think that this phone is a great one.

I loved this phone when I got it. & I still do like it 18 months later, it's the most durable phone I have ever owned, having survived many drops & accidental throws to the floor,
Dust does collect behind the screen & I did have the problem that it would turn off whenever you tapped it (2 other friends had the same problem) but you can fix that by cleaning the battery terminals.

I am upgrading to a Samsung i8510 (innov8), because I want a different type of phone, mostly for audio, camera & durability, if you don't have a reckless lifestyle this phone will last you forever.

When I first got this phone I loved it. Now I hate it. There is so much dust behind the screen I can hardly see anything, it switches itself off constantly so I always miss calls, the speaker is so tinny I get embarrassed when it rings, & the buttons are so tiny texting quickly is very difficult. I used to love Sony Ericsson, now I am seriously wondering whether to give them the benefit of the doubt & upgrade to the c905, or switch to Nokia. Any suggestions?

Excellent phone overall. Camera could be better but you know it's rubbish when you get it! If you want good camera get an LG Viewty or something. Okay the phone randomly switches itself off or freezes, but if you're patient it doesn't take long to come back on.

I text like none stop daily so the colour has chipped off the buttons but they haven't cracked like on previous phones.

A very sturdy phone, I literally drop mine every time I hold it & despite a few dents it hasn't broke. Buy this phone.

I am on a contract with this phone. I have this phone for 2 years! I would not get it again. I loved it until the past month, it keeps cutting out on me, (probably because I dropped it a few times) but it was just on my lap, & it turned off.

Also the Bluetooth is a bit dodgy at times. All of my friends have this phone. I love it to bits! It's like my baby. But, it does annoy me a bit. It takes you a while to get used to the keypad. But most phones do, I would recommend this phone. Definitely, just unfortunate that mine isn't working. It is worth the money!

This is the BEST PHONE I have ever owned (well, that isn't hard as I have only ever owned one other phone & that was a Vodafone 226). In the days I have had it (I got it yesterday) it hasn't put a foot wrong! BUY IT, don't even think of buying a different phone. Camera is mediocre (spelt right? ) & doesn't have a FM Radio. Easy to text yet keys at top can be pressed unwillingly. The BEST LOOKING PHONE ever made & is THINNER THAN A CD CASE! , No really it is! Don't be fooled by the colours as you can only get it in Silver, not Pitch Black, not Flame Black & not Vulgar Gold (it's not called that, yet it is what it really is! ) STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. When you put it in your pocket, you don't even notice it is there! FANTASTICLY AWESOME or as the cliché liking Americans would say English would say SPIFFING! One million out of Ten!

The W880i is a great looking, ultra slim & light phone. It is Walkman (which I like) & has a great camera.

On the other hand there are lots of things I don't like, buttons are horrible, small speaker, scratched so easily & no light.

I agree that the phone is of great design & I love how slim & tiny it is but I am on my fourth phone.

I opened my contract last August, phone was great for the first month but then started switching itself off. I took it back to the shop & they sent it off. I got it back the following week & then people couldn't hear me talking on the other end! Again got sent back to the engineers, they however sent me a new one. That one was faulty as well, then the following one was also faulty!

This fourth one now (fingers crossed) has been working perfectly, however it does restore itself to factory settings every now & again! But nothing too bad.

If you want to take a risk, this is a good phone when it is working but when it's not, it's a pain.

I have had this phone for a year now & it has been the most boringly reliable phone I have ever had. It is always there working 100% of the time. It has never done anything it isn't supposed to do. It is so light weight that once it's in your pocket you can't feel it there unlike some other phones I've had which were like bricks.

The phone is excellent quality. Very well built using quality materials. With a steel front, a rubber back & a real glass screen. It has weathered the year I've used it well with hardly any signs of use.

The phone is very tactile & a delight in your hands. The screen is lovely to view. Very sharp & defined. Colours are bright even in bright day light.

The phone is easy to use, the buttons though small are easy to text with. The menus are easy to navigate through. The battery life is just fine, needing charging once a week on average.
It is a good phone but it has some negatives.

The lack of a flash has been a bit of an annoyance when taking pictures at night. But that has been very rare.

The speaker is so tinny it's unbelievable that it's as Walkman phone. My phone came with a pair of Sony speakers that plug into the phone whose sound is superb, which sort of makes up for the pants internal speaker. I am buying the golf ball Bluetooth speaker to save on battery life (depending on how it sounds in comparison to the wired speakers).

When it was time to upgrade this year I couldn't believe that I preferred to have a cheaper tariff & keep this phone than to swap it or anything newer.

It has been the best phone I have ever owned & couldn't find anything newer that I would like to upgrade to. That saying something for me who has to have the latest.

Not the best camera but it isn't supposed to be a camera is it? Got good memory but freezes quite a lot.

It's not the loudest, but I think it's great. The camera is over sufficient & takes nice pictures.

It's a shame about the radio & that's the only thing that separates the Aston's & the W880i's.

I was a slave to the Nokia ever since mobiles came about so I was a little sceptical when I strayed to Sony Ericsson.
But I've never looked back! Best phone I've ever had, the camera could do with a flash but if I am going somewhere where I want to take photos, I take my ACTUAL camera!

The buttons look too tiny to function but you get used to it after sending your first text.

Confusing feature is that three buttons function as menu buttons but you get over that pretty sharpish.

I am incredibly clumsy so drop my phone all the time & it's ridiculously sturdy, never had a problem with that considering it's so slim.

All in all, I love it!

I had this phone for a bit under a year & it seems that like a lot of others here, after this time period the phone goes rapidly downhill. It was the love of my life until then. The buttons were easy to get used to & the overall design of the phone was eye catching. Its heaps user friendly but, as mentioned by others the camera is VERY standard (flash wouldn't hurt) & the issue with the rubbish battery life & the constant switching off was too annoying to bear. I had finally decided that it was time to get it fixed (under warranty) but it was too late. I lost all my numbers, calendar entries & other important stuff. Now in the market for another, but would like to stay with Sony Ericsson. I wouldn't recommend this phone at all.

Sound, soft & not so much loud.

This has to be one of the best designed phones around. It's really easy to carry around in my little hand bag or slip into my pocket of my tight jeans. The memory is fabulous 2Gb it stores all the music I need & the sound is really good.

But I have only had my phone for 6 months & it has given me so much problems & it's so sad because it costs so much money & I haven't let them get away with it. I hardly ever get network no more. Sometimes when I get a call it never rings or never shows that someone has called me. I am a very careful person have not once dropped my phone or anything like that. What is the point of having a phone if I never have network. Sometimes it just turns off & on, on its own. It gets really hot if on a call for a long period of time. I took it back to the shop I got it from & they told me it was a manufacturer fault but instead of giving me a new one or my money back they tried to fix it making it worse than before. They took the back part out & when they put it back did a very untidy unprofessional job at it. It showed I had network but I could never make a call so I am back to using my old trusty Samsung phone. I have since taken my Sony Ericsson back. Have to wait at least 2 weeks before they can get back to me, really disappointed.

I've had the phone for 10 days now, & as a piece of aesthetic design it's a pleasure to own, its ultra slim, beautifully built & the screen is bright & detailed. I can't fault it at all in those respects.

The buttons could be bigger (as they were on my Sony Ericsson K610i, which was the same height & width) but I am used to them now & just click with a fingernail.

Only downsides I can see are the lack of a radio (not a big deal to me, & there's only so much can be packed into such a sleek body), the surprising fact that you can zoom when using the cameras in video mode but not when shooting stills (very strange, but I have a great digital camera anyway) & the fact that the earphones, while great for music, are very disconcerting when used as a hands-free kit, they push well into the ears to block out exterior noise & provide good sound quality, but this means that when you're talking on the phone you sound to yourself as if you're talking underwater. Easy fixed for me, though, I just went back to using the hands-free set from my K610i.

All in all, though, best phone I've had, & a joy to look at & handle.

It has style, it is made of fantastic materials, it works without a single fault, & it fits into my jean pocket without making a bulge. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something beautiful & functional. My only concern when I was buying it was the buttons. I am a bloke with big hands. I've dropped it countless times, I am slightly clumsy. The phone itself has not taken any visible damage. I have had the problem when the phone turns off randomly, but it was nothing to do with heat, but the power button or C button was jammed slightly.

I am currently suffering with no calls registering, but I've looked up some advice & I am just waiting to try it out. For a while the phone didn't come up with the alerts for messages, so I had to check every half hour that I hadn't missed anything important.

Last Christmas I decided I wasn't big on phones so I decided to get a cheap Sony Ericsson W200i. Yes it's like 5 years old & N-Series indicating it's a Walkman phone & it does that very well, very well indeed. It is NOT designed to be a camera phone. & it is very nice of Sony to of thrown in a 2MP camera as a bonus. It's not great but it does its job. Camera phones these days don't go much higher than 5MP anyway & if I want to take nice pictures I will take my 8.3MP CAMERA with me. So those who complain of the camera are wrong as the phone doesn't boast it has a camera it's just one of the many features. It has 3G & it works fine & its signal is fine. If you complain move to a house underneath a mobile phone mast. The music player is immense. Load if you want & clear as you like. & with the free 1G memory card it lets me have as much music as I will ever need. It's actually over taking my iPod Nano. It's just easier. It has all the features you need. It doesn't have a radio. So what I never listen to my own music selection anyway & as for not having infra-red that's how old it is. It's outdated, useless. The other thing people complained about is the keypad. It's a bit tricky but I have had the phone for a couple of weeks & I am as faster texter as before they're fine. As for the battery problems they are true. But every electrical system needs a break after OUT PERFORMING. Any way it can easily be resolved with a piece of paper underneath it or a free software upgrade.

It is an amazing phone & those who complain have problems with themselves not with the phone. Great all round!

This phone is brilliant & the features are good but could be better.

Problem.
The problem with the power is that the battery doesn't fit properly. If you shake it side to side you will be able to here the battery rattle & if you shake it up & down then it usually goes off because the connectors have been pulled apart.

Solution.
Just stick a bit of blue tack or double sided sticky tape to the bottom of the battery before you put it in, IT WORKS FOR ME WOOO.

All on all, they just need to bring out a new battery for the phone & send the battery to everyone who has this phone..

I just got this phone as I really liked the look of it, I had the w810 as this was the next model up I was not too pleased to find out the zoom & flash features were not on this phone & they were on the 810. I thought when a new model came out it would have more features not less. The other thing is the vibrate is rubbish & the sound is a bit tinny I have missed a few calls as have not heard it. I am wondering if I should have got the k850 or the w910 instead, but there reviews are not great either. My hubby has the 910 & loves it. I wanted music & a good picture phone.

I have had this phone for coming up to a year now & yes I have had some issues with it turning itself off randomly but as the load up time is pretty quick (unlike my old Nokia N70 that took forever) it's nothing too annoying. The Walkman feature is excellent & as there is a standard headphone jack provided with the phone you can put in your own headphones or connect it to speakers with no problem. Yeah the camera isn't great but with no flash what do you expect? Yeah the buttons take a while to get used to & they are small, I went into the O2 shop to see if I thought I could use it before I upgraded my contract online. I love this phone, I love all its quirks & shortcomings because it never stated to be a great camera phone & it never stated it was going to be the only bit of technology that never goes wrong. It stated it was a music phone which it is & a very good one at that.

I loved the look of this phone when I got it but was upset when the Orange back started to discolour. This has since righted itself, oddly. The phone also frequently used to turn itself off which was remedied with a bit of paper at the end of the battery to keep it pressed against the contacts. It's now nearing 9 months old & starting to show its age. There are hairs & pocket dust behind the screen, can't figure out how they've managed to get there but without dismantling the phone I won't be able to remove them. I am loathing to attempt disassembly of the phone because there are two hair line cracks on the part where the indentations are to remove the battery.

Aside from that, day to day use is reasonable. The camera is basic, has no flash & is of pretty poor quality. The music player is very good but not something I often use. Texting is fine once you get used to the tiny keypad but it is also uncomfortable. The D pad in the centre is uncomfortable to use so this is a poor phone to choose if you like playing games. Signal strength is poor compared to my old N70, I rarely have a 3G signal & indoors I often lose all connectivity but emergency access. The guitar tuner software comes in handy but my phone came with no full games. Screen quality is excellent & there are some great looking themes that match the phone well. Unfortunately I am in an 18 month contract.

So for comparison checked out reviews for the W880i & realised a lot were bad too. So decided only folk with a moan complain & just wanted to say this phone is EXCELLENT! I had it for just under a year & no problems. Yes sometimes the screen would stick but let's face it, it is a camera, MP3, Internet & phone all in one so sometimes it sticks as does a PC! It really is a great little phone & once you get used to the size, it is great. Brilliant MP3 built in over 200 songs on mine & I really can't fault the phone in any way. Just a pity I lost it!

Had this phone for a year now & no real issues. Yeah every now & then it switches itself off but hey, all electronics need a power cycle now & then to clear their heads.

Buttons were slightly annoying to begin with but as with everything, a bit of getting used to it & fingers were once swift again. The Walkman was outstanding, great sound & ease of use. Also a nice touch on the in ear headphones. Camera & video were spot on & easy to transfer to PC & vice versa.

All in all probably the best phone I've had to date, I mean the size of the thing is awesome; on numerous occasions I've been searching the house for it only to find it in my back pocket! I've dropped it probably 50 times on everything from carpet to concrete & apart from the odd switch off, nothing! In fact this phone over the last year has replaced my iPod, haven't touched it.

It's coming up to free upgrade time & after some of the reviews I've seen on the W580i & W910i I am mulling over getting another one!

Oh, bad points, the charger & Walkman connectors a bit weak. They've 'just' lasted the year but not without the odd coaxing.

Just bought this phone on Vodafone PAYG after returning a Nokia 5310 ExpressMusic, due to it shutting down during music playback.

The W880i is miles ahead of Nokia when it comes to music phones. The first thing I did when I got this phone was to do an online software upgrade & I have had no such problems with the phone switching off randomly etc. So, it looks as if most people who have reviewed this phone that are complaining about shutdown issues probably didn't do a software upgrade.

As for the small buttons, well I have no issues, it's just a case of getting familiar with them, once you are then it is fine. Just look at the new Nokia N82, it has the same buttons! & if you want to take decent photos then by a camera!

To summarise, this is a good phone, well featured & well made, solid & very light. Pair it with Bluetooth headphones & you will have a decent rival to an iPod Nano & it's a 3G phone!

The reviews I read about this phone, nearly put me off buying it, but I am glad I bought it. I've always bought Sony Ericsson, this is one of the most excellent phone. Only, the keys are too damned small! It plays music files perfectly, very loudly if you want, though it doesn't have a radio, screen resolution is great except the screen is physically a bit small. I almost didn't get this phone because of all the bad reviews I read here! So I feel it's very important that I let everyone know how wrong they were. The Sony Ericsson W880i is an AMAZING phone, I have it in silver & black, for about 2 months now.

It looks beautiful, stylish, slim & classy, it's also very light, a pleasure to use & look at, & easy to carry around.

The BUTTONS are NOT TOO SMALL. They are small, but that makes no difference, because they STICK OUT, so even with my eyes closed I am able to press the right buttons! I have quite thick fingers (especially thumb) for a girl, & I also have long nails, but I still have no problems with the buttons! In fact, that's one of the features I really like in this phone, the stick out buttons!

Whereas with the Nokia N73 I originally ordered (& sent back within a week), the buttons were so awfully placed that I could never press the right one!

As for the second major complaint, the phone DOES NOT TURN ITSELF OFF. A software problem can occur in the case of any type of phone (for example the Nokia N73 I mentioned turned itself off whenever I opened the camera shutter! ), so if you get a phone that does this, bad luck, just send it back! & don't assume that all phones in that type will do the same!

Now the camera, I am quite happy with a 2 megapixel camera built into my PHONE. It takes great, clear, good resolution photos when there's enough light & when there isn't enough light, even the best CAMERAS struggle to take good pictures. When I know I will take photos, I take my 6.3 megapixel CAMERA with me. It's great that my phone has a camera too in case I want to take a picture on impulse when my camera isn't there! All these complaints about the 2 megapixel camera being rubbish, it's a PHONE for goodness sake, with a great camera built in! Not an actual CAMERA!

The MUSIC PLAYER is the best feature. I have an iPod that I always used to listen to music, but now I only take that with me on long journeys, for everyday the W880i is better! I don't need to carry an extra thing around, & listening to music DOES NOT DRAIN the BATTERY, which is quite amazing! The sound is better than the sound of my laptop or even my iPod, it's well loud if you want loud music, & the ear phones it comes with are great! There is no radio, but why would I want to listen to the radio, when I have 1GB of space GIVEN with my phone, so I can upload the music I like!

What I really love in this phone is that it's so EASY & STRAIGHTFORWARD TO USE, & the menu system is so easy to understand & get used to!

I have had a Nokia in my whole life. I thought their menu system was good & the old ones were quite reliable too. But this last Nokia (N73) I had really disappointed me. Sending a text message with it was a nightmare for example the phone had to catch up with me every 10 seconds, it couldn't follow the speed I was writing with, so I just had to wait & wait for it to catch up!

After getting my first Sony Ericsson, I am so amazed how much easier the menu system can get! I never read the instructions for this phone (still planning to, but never got round to it), & I had no trouble figuring out everything myself! It's so easy to use, & it all makes sense!

This is overall a great phone, the best phone I've had! I absolutely adore it! Do not listen to the bad reviews, just give it a go yourself! :).

I have had this phone since October & I can clearly say it is the best phone I have had. I love it. My old Sony Ericsson got wet & didn't work again & I missed the edge that the Sony Ericsson had when I had my Nokia 5200. I love the sleekness of it, it fits in my pocket easily & the silver looks amazing, really high quality colour. This phone holds loads of songs! Currently looking to put a 4GB memory card in it, this will mean it has more memory than my iPod!

I cannot understand the bad reviews on this phone, I am extremely impressed & have got used to the buttons on it. When it is working I love this phone, I think it looks great &, like all the other Sony Ericsson phones I have had, it is great to use & packed with features.

Problem is I have had nothing but trouble with the thing. Since I have had it I have had signal problems, it will work for a few hours then I will not get anything until I turn it off & on again. I also had the seemingly notorious switching off & locking up problems, which have both now been fixed (4 replacements & repairs later! ).

I have had the phone 6 months but have frankly had enough of not being able to use the thing due to no signal.

I suspect that this is a software issue so I will probably keep the phone in hopes that a firmware release will fix it. It is a real shame, as Sony Ericsson are great (I am getting k800i as a replacement) but this phone has soured its name slightly.

I've had this since June 2007, & had my first replacement in July as it froze all the time, & took at least 10 seconds to answer the phone. Since September I've had SIX replacements due to the phone turning itself off & refusing to turn back on, three buttons would light up but that was it. I've finally managed to get Orange & the insurance that I pay each month to allow me to get a new phone, I refused to accept the W850 as I am in an 18 month contract with 11 months left to run, & this has been out so long already.

I can't wait to get rid of this phone, my advice to anyone is do not get this phone as the several that I have had have all developed faults, within a very short space of me having them.

POWER OFF FIX, when these phones power off, the spring in the contacts is not strong enough to maintain contact after just a very slight knock. Simply snip two short pieces of a small rubber band, tape into the two grooves on the end of the battery. Problem solved.

I have not had this problem since I fixed it in this manner & I love the phone to bits again. Don't let such a good phone be ruined for such a simple fix.

If you have short thumb nails, texting with this phone isn't a problem. Sound quality is the same as other Sony Ericsson phones (high) but images taken with the camera are not as sharp as my old K610i. That phone was extremely durable, though ugly. You could smash it about & drop it on the floor & it never went wrong. This one, however, has numerous problems. I have been looking after it well but still it is so faulty.

The first problem I found is this thin black line stretching horizontally across the top of the screen. It's just annoying because it shouldn't be there. Anyway, apart from the visual annoyance, it doesn't seem to have increased so I just let it go.

The second problem is the fact that I cannot download anything on the phone (I have a £5 allowance per month). Usually the message operation failed comes up, & yet when I check, the money has been taken out of my account. 3 said I had to be in a 3G area & I have been all the times I tried & this never happened with the 610i. Anyway, I don't really care about the downloads so I had to let that go as well.

My third & biggest problem is that one of my contacts, whose name begins with are, is always duplicated somewhere near the C contacts. When I try to delete his name, the phone crashes & reboots by itself. In addition, when I open contacts & attempt to search names beginning with D, the same thing happens I.e. The phone shuts down & restarts. So basically I can't scroll down past B or scroll up further than E. That makes certain contact inaccessible which is frustrating. Given that this never happened at the very beginning, I feel this phone is going to get worse. Having taken Sony Ericsson's advice to update software, to no avail.

This phone's reliability is bad. Great design but bit of a gamble as to whether you will get one without problems I think. I also read there's a faulty batch? Anyhow, it's usable so I'll just deal with it.

Oh yeah, one more thing is that I can't get reports for text messages, only for the picture ones. I hate not knowing whether my texts have got through or not! & also reception fluctuates a bit but if you hold the phone's sides as opposed to smothering it with your entire hand, the reception improves but you don't really want to be holding your phone pincer style do you. Not cool!

Nice phone, great looking, pitty it does not have a radio. The only problem is it turns itself off at least 3 to 4 times a day for no reason! My girlfriend who has the same phone is experiencing the exact same problem. From a lot of reviews I have read, a lot of other people are having the same problem.

Don't buy this phone, I bet they will be a recall because of so many people having the same problem.

I got this phone mainly because it looked good, as I normally do! But this is ridiculous. I got it in about April & only a couple of months later I started having problems. The slightest little knock would switch it off. It got to the point where even when I was on the phone it would either switch off in the middle of a call for no reason, or when I did end the call, I couldn't hang up as it had crashed. So I would then have to flick or knock my phone to get it to switch off so I could switch it back on, extremely annoying. Only today, it had done this again so when I knocked it to get it off again, it now will not even switch on AT ALL it just flashes. So it is now not even useable & might as well go in the bin. Would recommend to anybody, DO NOT GET THIS PHONE! I am now going to go back to a trusty Samsung they have never let me down! G600 here I come!

The W880i is a very nice little phone with loads of great things on it. The Walkman is very good because I use it to replace my old Sony MP3 player. The camera is high quality with many options etc. The bad points are the sound quality is not as good as on other Walkman phones like the W810i. It has no radio or flash. It also look really good in silver with its steel casing, people always say to me I have a nice phone.

Overall it's a great phone with 3G & video calling & if you are a music fan & want a sleek phone with style the W880i is the perfect choice. I got mine on the 2nd of November & it hasn't froze once, have Sony Ericsson fixed the problem?

I know I don't use it to its full potential but then I don't have time to download music to it when I have an iPod that is fully functional.

The w880i PHONE IS rubbish! Within a week my headphone connector was broken, crackle & randomly cutting out, the charger died a few days later. For unknown reasons, I did get it replaced. Though only after I found out I was unable to swap to ANY other phone.

IT'S got NO RADIO, what? & it takes WAY to long to charge if you are actually using it. It does how ever charge pretty quickly whilst not using it around 35 minutes. Though still a very regrettable buy this phone.

I'll keep using my Nokia N91 instead, its louder & much more user friendly. They W880i doesn't even have a skip button on the headphones, WHAT?

I wish I had have read an honest review of this phone before buying one, VERY disappointed = (.

I got a replacement from O2, after waiting 2 weeks, & the microphone doesn't work so now I can't even make calls, rubbish! I am getting a completely different phone now. I would strongly advise you not to get this phone.

This phone is fantastic.

I've been reading a fair few reviews saying that the phone turns off from dropping it or it doesn't get a signal. Mine doesn't have either these problems (I am on Orange by the way), so don't be completely put off.

It is a great design, I took it with me to the cinema with my friends & they were all over it. I forgot I even had it in my pocket for a while. It has great features which are easy to get your head round & once you get used to it, it is easy to use.

The music does sound a little bit tinny, but the MegaBass feature does help. Also, as I am sure you know, the keys are very small, so if you have chunky finger, good luck. However, I have rather thin fingers so it isn't a problem for me.

Overall it's a great phone, definitely worth the money. Love it.

I Am A Teenager, & Like To Listen To My Music, LOUD. It Is Really Quite Even When It's On Full Volume & Speakers Don't Help.

The Camera On This Phone Is Really Bad Quality & My Sony Ericsson W880i doesn't Even Have A Flash, This Isnt Very Handy For When I am Walking Home At Nights When Its Dark, I can't Use My Flash To See Where I am Going.

I Will Say Though, This Phone Is Very Nice & Slim. It's Very Good For Putting In Jeans Or Tight Pockets Because It Just Fits Perfectly. It's Good For Putting In Handbags, It doesn't Take Up As Much Space.

This is my fourth Sony Ericsson in a row & I find it has been the most disappointing. My mate got one first as soon as the phone came out & after a few day's he hated it. However, I liked its look & the small buttons didn't really bother me. It also had similar operating functions to my old k800i (except camera) & the sleek design fits well in your denims. Also found free 1GB memory card is good.

When I was due my upgrade, I took delivery of a w880 & I liked the phone at first. The camera is really awful, but I never expected much because this is a slim line Walkman phone. Sadly after a few weeks I started to grow tired of the thing & I thought the reliability was very poor for Sony. The signal is fine but the phone would constantly turn itself off. Even if I placed it down gently it would die on me & a work colleague also was experiencing similar problems with the same phone. It got so bad you would have to look at it every five minutes to ensure the phone was still on & I would also miss loads of calls. The phone is also very slow when using functions.

Thankfully I lost the thing last week & this time I think I will be different & go for a Samsung. If you want an MP3 player in a phone, then I wouldn't say this phone is a bad buy as long as you get a decent one with no faults & like it's looks. I just got bored with it very quickly & I think there is far better phones out there.

Very impressed with my new w880i, I had a k800i before this & wanted something slimmer so I had to sacrifice the 3.2MP camera & the flash but I am glad I did. The w880i is stylish & sleek, it may not have a 3.2MP camera or a flash but it more than makes up for it with style, I found the k800i very chunky. Very surprised by all the complaints floating around, I must be one of the lucky few as my battery life is great, it doesn't turn itself off & my reception is full 24/7. My w880i was already fully charged when I bought it so I let it run right down & gave it an overnight charge, that was 2 days ago & I still have a full battery very impressive! I didn't buy it for the Walkman feature as I have an ipod, or the camera as I have a 10MP one, I bought it for the simple fact that it looks 'sleek as'.

I've had this phone for four months now, & what a phone! I am very happy with it.

Design: This is the slimmest phone I've owned, I have the steel case which is really nice. The buttons are a little small but you do get used to them. The rubberised back is an excellent idea.

Features: Firstly to clarify, there is no light, there is no radio. Both of these features would add weight & width to the phone. But this phone makes up for that in a great camera (you would never believe it was only a 2 Mega Pixel) & better then MP3 player music quality. It comes with a 1GB card but I have upgraded to a 4GB M2 card which eradicates the need for a separate MP3 player!

Usability: Very easy to use. Some nice touches built in. Like the ability to enlarge the clock. One button operates the volume/skip forward/backward on the Walkman or you can use the dedicated buttons too. The batteries last for ages too, I charge mine every three days with at least 5 hours of that on listening to music.

Overall: A great phone to replace an MP3 player/phone, camera works really well outdoors.

I've had this phone for over 6 months now & up until now it's been fantastic. The camera is pretty rubbish yes, but I wasn't fussed for it & the buttons are fine for me. The phone does heat up, but only when I am on the phone & charging it at the same time. I have learnt not to do that anymore.

Recently, however, after taking it on a few holidays, it's gone dramatically downhill. I never used to have a problem with signal, I am on Vodafone & the W880i always had full bars of signal. But the other day, it randomly just decided to not have signal anymore, & I can't send texts or call. Sometimes I will receive texts. This is SO frustrating, as I have had it too long now to get a new one. I have now resorted back to using an old Nokia brick from the 90's. Does anyone know how to solve the signal problem on the w880i, before I give up on it all together?

The Slimmest Walkman phone of the W-series line up. Almost a half of W610i. This is a great phone. Very crisp sound, nice display.2.0 Walkman player, it's not heavy I have no problems with this phone except for:

- Yeah let's say its 2.0 mp camera, that's not the problem, the problem is, it has no autofocus, the same as W850i & sad thing is, there's no flash.
- Smaller LCD screen, W610i is much larger.
- the phone easily gets tired which can cause Phone crashing & hanging even though I am not using USB direct to my PC to avoid the software from getting busy. (I am using a memory card reader).
- Small keypads. If you have big fingers, good luck.
- When mishandled, the battery's cover or lid produces funny noise.
- Kind of slow, but when it's in a Walkman player. Not bad.
This is based on my experience on this phone. It's better to buy an unbranded phone than a branded phone which is, the firmware is much slower than unbranded ones.

I really liked this phone when I saw it in the shop so I decide to take it out on contract.

At first it was a great phone & the look & memory is great, however after a little while it started turning its self on & off. I got a new one through & it still does it, sending that one back too. The signal also goes up & down the whole time & doesn't seem to say still.

To be honest it's a bit of a let down, considering the amount it would cost on pay as you go!

I have just got a w880i as an upgrade from my last phone which was the Sony Ericsson w550i. The w880i is awesome, so thin & light. Before I got it, I read through these reviews & was left with some mixed feelings about it. After getting it though I was so glad. Its ace. If you need a camera with flash go & buy one, don't complain because this isn't got one. If you haven't researched it before you bought it more. I am on O2 & the reception has been fine, the bars seem to fluctuate more than my previous phone but can still get reception in my basement flat where some of my friends can't. The back casing to get into the battery is easily removed, getting the sim out is a bit of a challenge but hey, as everything else on this phone is so easy to use it can't all be plain sailing. Just a bit of perseverance needed. The music software on the phone is straightforward! To download tunes onto it using the USB cable. & the sound quality is great, with a manual equalizer you can suit it to any music. As for the external speaker sounding a bit tinny, I defy you to find a mobile phone that doesn't! My last phone had 4 speakers on it & was the best for external audio that I had come across, that still needed bass, but youaren'tt going to get that from a speaker that's the size of a nats dinner plate. If you're thinking about getting one, do it do it. Party on!

I really wanted this phone & after begging for it I finally got it. I really loved it, features & everything. Until all of a sudden it cut of & would not charge. I was then sent another one & when it ran out of charge & so I charged it within a second the battery was flat. The w880i is a phone that either works for you & you have no problems or it is an absolute disaster. Since getting the phone I have had nothing but trouble & have had to have a new one 3 times, however after reading other reviews some people give it 100%.

I've recently purchased this phone & so far it hasn't let me down. It's very fast & easy to work with. All you people who think this is a bad model, well, you can't be thinking right. The design is outstanding, especially the black model, it turns all the heads of people who don't own a phone like this one. The buttons may seem tricky to cope with at first but they do work, they are not so small that you lock the keypad by accident while trying to ring an ambulance. The screen colour & resolution is rather impressive with crystal clear performance.

How wrong was I? the speakers are all 'tinny' & the camera doesn't zoom what's up with that? I always used my iPod for music & will continue to do so! Even the ringtones come out bad, maybe it's just my phone? They sounded so nice on the W810i.

When this phone first arrived I was tempted to send it back due to the small buttons. After a couple of days I got used to them so kept the phone. I have had this since March but in the last 3 weeks it keeps turning itself off. Usually after I send a text but sometimes just when it feels like it.

I called O2 & expected them to tell me to 'take it in for repair' (as they have recommended with faults in the past). This time they said they would send me a replacement straight away. This suggests to me that this is a known problem, a faulty batch perhaps.

I am just about to send my phone off so fingers crossed the problem will be resolved. All in all a decent phone.

Does anyone know how this phone compares to the Sony Ericsson K800i? As I am in a toss-up between the two. The K800i is nearly half the price & seems to have better features than the W880i, I.e. better camera, more memory, radio etc etc.

Are you really just paying for style when buying the W800i? & how does the MP3 player compare between the two?

Any thoughts. Comments would be great.

I recently got this phone & I think it's great. I have it in silver & it looks so nice. The buttons are very small but so are my fingers so I haven't had any problems with that.
I like a good camera phone so was considering a cyber shot phone but just had to get this one as I like it so much & a plus is that the camera is great. No it doesn't have a flash or the same features of a cyber shot phone but the camera is great & it's a Walkman phone so people who complain about the camera should get a cyber shot one instead.

I haven't had any problems with this phone. It hasn't turned itself off (yet) the battery life is really good & no problem with the reception (even though that is down to your service provider e.g. T-Mobile, O2, Orange).

If you are considering getting this phone then do read the features etc as it is annoying me that people are complaining it doesn't have certain features. (If you read or asked about the features maybe you wouldn't be complaining).

I also got the Sony Ericsson speakers with mine & they are fantastic. Great memory. Great features best phone on the market at the moment. By far.

Pretty similar to previous models of Sony Ericsson phones I've had. The lack of a radio did upset me as it supposed to be a phone based around audio, but it's no big problem. The flash menus are great & make it look even cooler.

The Internet button is possibly the most annoying thing about the phone. It should at least ask the user if they really wanted to launch it. Response times don't seem to be any slower than over Sony Ericsson phones, even if it is slower than some other manufacturers. The data/charger port at the side kind of lets the phone down as well I feel. It's adds about another inch to the width of the phone, so if you listen to it with it in your pocket for example, you're not really benefiting from the slim design.

Not had any problem with loss of signal, battery cover, sim card getting stuck. Phone turning off & the camera quality is higher than some digital cameras I've seen. The lack of a flash is no problem at all & as has already been said, it's a music phone. Not a camera phone. The auto-focus is gone too, but to be honest, I get better pics now than on my k750i.

Sometimes the earpiece does sound a bit tinny & if you play really heavy rock, some times you can't all the beats (through the back/loud speaker) & it kind of all blurs together.

Great phone. Glad to be stuck with it for the next 18 months.

If you need all the gizmos get your usual brick. It is a fantastic phone & after having three other Sony Ericssons, lot's of Nokias & Sharps I can say- this is the best of them all! A beautiful phone when out of your pocket & almost non-existent when in your pocket. Get this phone!

This is a great handset, however from being fully charged on standby the phone is totally dead after 16 hrs, hardly the 400 hrs standby time the Sony website claims. My handset has been back to Vodafone three times who insist there is no fault on the phone. Bluetooth off, GSM only, screen brightness to minimum, no calls, texts, games, videos, Internet (tested overnight! ) I can't even get one full day's use from the phone. Without a SIM card in the phone it stays charged. Does anyone know how to maximise battery life on this handset.

I have two chargers & a car charger to keep it charged & when it's working everything about the phone is great. However leave it on the table for four hours & 25% of the power has gone when it's doing nothing - very frustrating - worst battery life of any phone I have ever had.

Firstly I am an O2 contract customer. I have owned Nokia phones right up until Sony brought out the K700i, after the attraction of the nice menu & 2 mega pix camera I was sold. Since then I have owned the W800i, K610i & the K800i & I now have another upgrade of the W880i.

I have had the phone since the end of June. It started out OK at first, nice menu & nice features. The 1GB memory was more than enough to hold my tracks. The inbuilt speaker was sharp & once plugged into the free Sony speakers I got it easily compares to my iPod & speaker doc. I have started to have some slight issues with it recently. They are as follows:

- The buttons take a LOT of getting used to if you a guy. The fiddly buttons make it hard to text & sometimes you press two buttons at once. This freaks the phone out & it hangs.
- The reception is not too good. As described below it jumps in & out of signal range. I have been in the middle of Princess Street in Edinburgh & had 2 or less bars on the reception, but yet my other half has full bars on O2 on her K800i. Also in my flat I get full bars on my O2 XDA Mini S but only one or two on the W880i.
- The famous Internet button. Why oh why did they put it right under the select button. When you go to send a message I always press it. It gets very, very annoying. I used my free web surfing time up in the space of a day. I have finally found a way to overcome it. Make the Internet settings empty. But this then means when you want to surf the Internet you have to remember to switch it back to O2 GPRS :(.
- The good old restart. I have had it on a couple of occasions. When I have been surfing the net it switches off & restarts. When it's in my pocket or sitting on my desk at work. One day I actually watched it restart. I thought at first someone was calling me because it lit up. Also when going into the contacts it hangs & then freezes, however it has only restarted once when accessing the contacts.
- The drop calls, might be related to the poor reception the phone gets, but many a times my mum has called me & got my answer phone when the handset is sitting showing four bars & it's on my desk. Weird.

I have contacted O2 regarding these issues & because I am outside my 28 days they won't swap the phone over. Instead they are sending me a factory refurbished model. No doubt it will have the same issues again. I have two options either stick it out with the replacement they give me, or flog it.

I really wanted the Samsung U600, but I know of the battery issues they have. Why can't phones be made simple again.

Wow I was really impressed when I got this Phone, sure the manual is rubbish. There are many good things & only a little bad thing about it. First & for most, it's one of the slimmest phone's I've ever seen. It work's great & with a great battery life. The Walkman feature is the most used by me. It's great it has so much space for so many songs. The buttons are quite awkward but then again fat buttons wouldn't have suited this phone :).

The downside is there is lack of features. Having Radio & flash wouldn't have gone amiss & 3.2 megapixel camera would have been nice. Though it's a great phone & it's remarkable that it has 3G.

What makes this phone just plain great is the looks & you can fall in love with the looks. So super sleek slim & of coarse flame black is just plain gorgeous & of course the Walkman has graced the phone with great MP3 player. Push email is great as well. The Camera although lacking flash & auto-focus is great. I have Nokia N90 & I believe that both of their cameras are equal in quality. (That's how good looking the picture is when you take a picture.) Also for all of those who say this phone is rubbish just because of no Flash or Auto-Focus, this phone is a music phone, a Walkman remember that when your buying/upgrading it.

Overall if you're getting this phone, you're making no mistake. This phone is great for private & business use. So I'd advise you to get it if you want a Walkman phone.

Just a note for all those that complain about the SIM card. Just remember to get your SIM card out you've got to take out the battery: P Also the cover comes off fine & if yours doesn't then I may suggest you talk to your mobile operator such as T-mobile or O2.

After reading the reviews I am shocked. I have had my phone for 6 weeks now & had no problems what so ever. I am with T Mobile & had excellent signal, when people are complaining about this it is down to your network provider not the phone. So I suggest you switch I have had a lot of problems with O2 previously with other phones loosing signal. I love the style & all the features. Battery does need charging regularly (usually every two days) but it is because it's so slim & I use it a lot Web & Walk & MP3 player. I love the feature which tells you how much battery you have left as I can usually tell by this how long I have left before I charge it again.

My phone has never switched off & I have unfortunately. The back is easy to get off & there is a place to fit your thumb nail in to push the battery out (near the little Sony sign on the back). The SIM is tricky to remove but again you just have to push it out with your thumb, sorry rubbish instructions but only way I can explain it :- (.

When I bought this phone, I was told which brands to stay clear of & they couldn't praise Sony Ericsson enough for their quality. I have to agree with the comments made about the instruction manual it is not good, but I like to play about with the phone first & refer back to the manual if I get stuck. I have taken insurance out & this covers accidental damage & malicious damage for £6 per month, they replace the phone within 24 hours. Sorry to hear about everyone else's problems hopefully I will be lucky with mine enjoy.

Like others I have experienced a rash of problems with my W880i. Regularly switches itself off when I put it down & I don't throw it about, particularly not since I worked out why it kept turning itself off. Went into the shop & they denied all knowledge of this being a common fault. Find the Internet button very irritating as I'm constantly switching Internet on if I forget to lock keys before putting phone in my bag or pocket. But most irritating of all is that it has now locked up completely. After 15 minutes on hold to Orange they said they would send another but guess what, that one doesn't work either & I now have to call them back again for yet another replacement. Not holding my breath!

I haven't had any problems getting SIM card or battery in & out. It does look good & I find the MP3 player is easy enough to use & the quality is fine for my basic requirements. Don't think much of the camera quality as you need pretty bright lighting to get a decent photo but then as others have said it is only 9mm thick so can't expect everything. It would be nice if I could make a call on it though!

I have big fingers & thumbs, but have had no problems using the W880i. I seem to have developed the knack of pressing the buttons with my fingernails without too much discomfort.

Great navigation, themes, call quality & design. Incredibly light, with a crystal clear (albeit small) screen.

Walkman quality is excellent complemented by the pre-packaged headphones. Music can be transferred using the USB cable (supplied) or Bluetooth if you have a dongle on your PC.

Reasonably good camera, but no flash which may annoy people who take snaps of people in embarrassing moments in pubs (like me! ).

Also the fact that it doesn't have a radio doesn't bother me as I use it to listen to my own music & the headphone & speakers that came with it are of excellent quality.

The only issue I have with it is not having a flash but I was made aware of this when I first got the phone & if I am honest I don't really use it that often so it's something I can put aside.

I also work for a mobile communications company & I can tell you that we very seldom have any issues with these or any Sony Ericssons it's usually Nokia so I am glad I have turned my back on them now.

It makes me laugh when I read that people are shocked that some of the features aren't as good as they have experienced on other phones. This phone is designed to be slim, if you want rocking speakers, get a bigger phone, if you want a better camera, get a bigger phone.

The reason I got this phone is its size & style it's absolutely brilliant. I've had P900's for the past four years & it has better speakers, camera, bigger keyboard, BUT it's a bigger phone. I got this one because of its size, it fits into my pocket. Don't blame the phone because you selected a model that doesn't suit your needs.

There are good things & bad things about this phone.

On the good side, it looks fantastic, & is quite easy to use, the buttons are freaky, but you get used to them. I have found the volume of ring tones to be fine, but then I am not trying to play poor commercial RnB out of the back of it on a bus.

On the down side, it keeps breaking. The first one had to go back to Vodafone, & the second one didn't work either & had to be returned for a software upgrade. The reception is not good, & the battery life is very poor.

The Walkman feature is very counterintuitive to use & it's a pain loading things onto the phone & loading things off it. The instruction manual that comes with it is completely inadequate, & I ended up downloading the PDF of the k800i, they're all Sony Ericsson, so all work roughly the same way.

Despite all the aggravation, I'd still stay with it because it's so damn small, & looks so damn good.

I have had this phone for 4 weeks now I love it. Its one of the nicest phones I have ever had with its black & Orange cover. The features are great too, a radio wouldn't have gone a miss as I enjoy having everything in one but besides that it's perfect. I did have my worries about the camera with no auto focus & no flash but it's actually really good. I previously had a d900 with a 3 megapixel camera, auto focus & flash & this phones camera is 10x better! The buttons look arkward from a glance but you adjust within a few days. As well I couldn't believe it had 3G, I was so amazed as its only 9.5mm thick. Overall I give the phone 9.5/10 as I believe it's quite amazing to fit that much stuff inside such a small phone.

Love this phone. Nice & small & has everything in it. Although I have had two problems with it:

1. The MP3 player. I listen to rock music, & the equaliser doesn't seem designed for it. Everything heavy just sounds too distorted.

2. It is really shock-sensitive. Anything more than a gentle tap will turn it off. Even when I drop it onto a pillow it turns itself off. I have had a lot of Sony Ericssons & they all seemed to turn themselves off on impact, usually if I drop them on the floor but this one is a bit far.

Bought W880i from Vodafone experience shop. I had great trouble getting my number transferred from 02 to Vodafone. The phone did not work well. I thought it was due to this transfer or network problems. Vodafone customer care kept telling me all will be OK, but 23 days into the phone, I finally went to the experience shop in W1 to be finally accepted by Vodafone that there IS something wrong with the phone. Yet, they refused to accept responsibility for the phone. They said they will send the phone for repairs & made me pay 20 pounds for a week's replacement phone. The attitude of Vodafone seems like they are SPECIAL, Hardly! O2 & 3 can match them on network & charge half of Vodafone. I am currently facing problems with Vodafone & they have finally said they will give me a new phone. I had fever & could not talk but they made me wait for 2 & a half hours after which I gave up, became more sick & am talking to them via email.

I got this as an upgrade & it will be going back to the shop this weekend for a swap to another unit. In summary,

- Speakerphone, atrocious quality. You can't hear the person on the other end. Even my 3 year old Sony Ericsson is way better than this.
- Ringer, again due to the poor quality speaker. I laughed when I realised the 'tinny' quality of ringtones. Do a side by side comparison with other phones to prove it!
- Reception, drops down to a couple of bars or loses signal totally. Again side by side test shows this to be the case.
- Buttons, I don't have chunky chip fingers, but even this is a test. I wish I had tried it more in the shop.

Sorry Sony Ericsson, but this phone is a dodo!

When you get a new phone do you not think about these things at the time & consider what you're actually going to be using the phone for? ! If you want a camera phone with a flash then GET one instead of a phone that is MP3, MP4 orientated! Some people are never happy!

Did the people who said that it gets hot have the silver model (I do), if so I've figured out why. The battery is right behind your ear & heats up the metal casing but to say that it is burning your ear is a bit much. Maybe there are w880i users up & down the land with their ears/ hair aflame in which case I am sorry.

Just wondering if it is only me that is having these troubles? I've had the phone a few weeks now & just today this has started. When sending a text it normally comes up on the screen 'sent' but it's stopped doing that. Also the delivery report doesn't come up anymore on the screen, just buzzes if on silent or beeps if on loud. Also when I receive a text it doesn't come straight up on the screen, I have to go through the menu & into the inbox to get the texts.

Last but not least, my call list, I like to use this by just pressing the green phone but since the 7th of June it hasn't recorded anyone who I've called or who's rang me!

Other than that, I love this phone! A fabulous phone but just debating whether to take it back & change it because of these little troubles.

I really don't understand people who complain about the phone getting hot & switching itself off. I've got the w880i for more then a month & haven't experienced any of those problems. It does NOT get hot & switch itself off. With moderate use (maybe 20 minutes talk, a few SMS a day) the battery lasts for 5 days, so probably some handsets are faulty & should be replaced. I had a Motorola V3i before this & I would never dream of going back to use a phone like that again after trying this one. Now there are some minor disappointments:

- the external speaker does sound bad, however listening to the music through the headphones is a pleasant experience.

- When I miss a call or SMS it does not remind of it with a sound or a flashing light which is so not very convenient.

- the menus I find sometimes are a little overcomplicated, it is not possible to customise it fully.

- the camera could be better, of course.

I got used to the keypad very quickly, there was not a problem with it & signal quality is good. The design is beautiful. I do not see another phone on the market now that would make want to give this one up.

But my biggest concern is what have they done to the Walkman? It sounds really tinny & with no bass at all, I haven't tried it through the headphones yet but the old W810i sounded ace through the handset's speakers. I have to say I am feeling really disappointed with this phone after all the hype surrounding it, so I think I am going to do the only decent thing & sell it on eBay!

Phone looks great, is lovely thin & light. BUT, reception is INCREDIBLY POOR. I am now with Orange but when I put my O2 sim in (which had fantastic reception) I still get VERY poor reception. My theory is that because this is the first phone which Sony Ericsson have produced which so thin, they haven't got the internal antenna worked out properly. It's INCREDIBLY frustrating. Don't use the music features or anything else technical so couldn't comment on those. But I stress again, this phone HAS VERY POOR RECEPTION. Pity, as it sure is cute!

The music player is very straightforward to use & the sound quality is really good.

I agree that if you use night mode then the lack of a flash is not an issue at all. OK I concede that the buttons were fiddly at first but after a while I got used to them & now I hardly notice it. All in all this is a phone I would definitely recommend.

Hey I haven't actually got this phone, but I was planning to get it on the 3 network.

However I heard some very interesting information about the phone that you should be aware of. The reason why 3 do not have it on their network is because of the software on the phone. The software may potentially develop a fault over time & they have been trying to fix the problem. I mentioned to them that my friends have the phone & they haven't had any problems, they replied with, there aren't any immediate problems, but the phones software may develop a fault in the near future.

It may suggest why some of your W880s have been turning off on you. I just thought you may want to be aware of this & perhaps it's something you may need to ask your network to get it sorted out for you.

The phone to me is brilliant, it doesn't have a flash but if you use night mode then you don't actually need one. You cannot zoom on the camera in normal mode but if you use the panoramic view then you can. I've had the phone since Easter on O2 network, I have never experienced it heating up & I find the battery life to be comparable to most other phones that I have had. The idea of being able to use the volume keys when in standby to see the time & if there are any messages is a great idea for me, I am constantly checking it! The keys are tiny but you soon get used to them, I can use it just as quickly as I have always been able to.

Most people who see my phone are impressed with the looks (I have it in silver - looks fab) & want to hold it & see how it feels in their pockets. All in all I would recommend this phone to most people but would warn them about the tiny keys which I feel are its biggest failing, but as I say I find them OK to use.

Great phone; slim, stylish, & steel casing. NO infra-red these days (the phone has Bluetooth). For me, the negatives are: - no radio, - Sony's bulky connector ends (huge for a phone of this size). I wonder why Sony does not come up with a slim & small connector?

- No usable software (I hate Sony's connectivity software).
- Hard to use volume keys (impossible to increase or decrease volume fast).

My old phone was a V3i Dolce & Gabbana & it often switched itself off so I was expecting an improvement. This phone has only switched itself off once in the week I have had it & that was because I forgot to charge it.

Network coverage is great. I was on 02 before & I remained on 02 despite a lack of service in the area I live. However this phone picks up a far stronger signal than my old one did & even in places my old one didn't at all. I sometimes feel like I am on a different network with the 02 deals.

I can see me keeping this phone for a very long time.

Got this phone a few weeks back on contract with Orange, I had a W810i before & thought this phone would be a logical transition to make.

Unfortunately:

1. No infra-red
2. No flash on the camera
3. No zoom on the photo camera but there is on the video?
4. Small fiddly keys
5. Shortcuts on the up/down arrow won't work
6. The signal is appalling, not sure if this is because where I live but it is terrible.
7. I got this phone because I thought the TrackID functionality would be cool, not available through Orange though!
8. Rubbish games (I know trivial but it all adds up)

However, I do have a few good areas which have redeemed the phone enough for me to keep it until I can cancel my contract using my Insurance. These are:

1. Snazzy ultra slim design
2. Music player quality is excellent & comparable to that of an iPod.
3. The new shortcut menu on the main screen is good & innovative.

So in summary if you want a good all round Walkman phone go for the W810i or W800i if you want a music player phone of excellent quality go for this or save money & get a cheap phone & an iPod!

Best phone I've ever owned. Yeah the keys take some getting used to, but so would a Ferrari after driving a Mondeo. No issues with it getting hot or short battery life. It's just so intuitive, don't have to go searching through endless menus for related tasks. First Sony Ericsson phone I've owned, definitely not the last.

This phone lasted a grand total one hour in my possession before I removed the SIM & put it back in my trusty old K800i. The W880i is now back in the post.

I got the handset as an upgrade but it was definitely a downgrade.

- Buttons way too small, & that's coming from a k800 where they aren't that big anyway
- Too thin, looks really nice but is hard to hold properly
- Fewer worthwhile features compared to previous & other phones (poor camera, no radio)

Really unpleasant to use, this seems to have been overlooked in the design process! Definitely a case of style over substance. Avoid.

This is a really stylish phone, with all the usual features of a Sony Walkman phone, however, the keys are really tiny, I do a lot of txting but have to stop after a bit as it hurts my fingers. The longest I've been on the phone is 20 minutes, & it has become very hot!

Although it is a nice phone, & is high in looks, I seriously recommend the w850i, so much better to use.

An amazing handset. EVERYONE says to be carefull before you buy, the keypad is tiny, & I didn't realise how really small the keys are. I have small fingers but still I have trouble at times. BUT apart from that, stunning. I have the silver one, looks absolutely amazing & I haven't had an Ericsson for a while but I am used to it already. It has fairly good features. A weird zoom for the camera which doesn't work in the normal mode (why would they do that? ). Great they give you the memory card, a decent sized one too. Phone charges major quick too. Only other fault I would say is that these brands compared to Nokia outstrip Nokia in design & ingenuity, however still can not compete against usability. One key thing is a security keypad lock which is great to have with nosey family & friends around! As long as you want the phone & don't mind the tiny keys, & yes smaller than a grain of rice, go for it!

I have had this phone two months & have decided to get rid of it. I was taken in by the stylish looks & slim design, but after using it regularly for a while now I have concluded that it just fails to deliver.

The only good feature is the sound quality of the Walkman which is superb.

Everything else is mediocre or just plain irritating. For men, the number keys are too close together to make texting viable. Battery life is average at best, use mega-bass on the equaliser & it plummets. The camera is truly awful, no auto-focus & you only get zoom on the low quality setting. The clock does appear on stand-by but it is so faint you have to squint to see it.

All in all, a poor package, I am going back to a W810i which is better all round.

Had this phone for 3 wks now on t mobile. As this is the first decent phone I'v had I maybe a bit biased towards it but OK lets see.1st as a phone it really is pretty good loud & proud. 2nd build quality I work as a hod carrier on a building site the phone does end up dusty but seems to be pretty much scratch resistant I have dropped it in a bucket of cement & wiped it off no problem still looks new. 3rd camera is a little disappointing but as long as you hold as still as poss can get a decent photo out of it, the video well not so hot enough said! 4 the MP3 player is just great I find it easier to use then my ipod sight smaller as well as better sound (most will disagree).

OK will I buy again? Yes I think I would.

I got this phone about 3 days ago now, & it's the best phone I have had yet!

It looks super cool, (I have the black & Orange one, that colours best! =D) & I think the Walkman player is better than the one on the w850i (which was my last one), as you can change the colour to Orange or white as well as black.

Even though people say the buttons are small, if you have smaller fingers like me, you'll get along fine with it, & you get used to them eventually.

The only problem I have with it is that it has no radio = (which is really annoying because I used to listen to that a lot. I don't really mind about the flash, because as people have said, I only usually used it to find things in the dark!

But if you're thinking of getting this phone, seriously, don't hold back!

This is an excellent phone. I swapped from the Nokia N95 to this. OK it doesn't have the features, but what it does do it does well.

The battery life is outstanding, it lasts about 7 days instead of 7 hours. Build quality is 10 times better than the Nokia & 1/2 the size.

Anyone thinking of changing to the Nokia N95 as some posts have suggested, 'don't', you would have to be a fool to change.

Instead of being a jack of all trades master of none, this phone has superb battery life, excellent build quality, is small & stylish & above all feels as though it may last 12 months instead of 12 days.

Treat yourself & get one.

I recently bought this phone as a birthday present for my wife, as it looked nice & slim, but she hates it because:

1) Phone gets hot during conversation.
2) No flash/no zoom. Picture in-doors comes out dull.
3) Buttons are too small, so it's easy to press several at once.
4) No radio.
5) Clock is not shown constantly while the phone is on stand by.

Her previous Sony phone had all the above features, although it was slightly thicker

In a summary it's a bad phone. Sony went for the look at the expence of features.

The keypad annoys at first but one gets used to it. It's a matter of pressing with the side of your finger & such. It works better than you think when you first try in the store, although texting will never be as fast as with a 'full size' keypad. Note the HPM-80 radio headset is NOT compatible with this phone, contrary to previous posts. An error message appears. A Russian site contends that the absence of a radio is purposeful, to avoid early obsolescence of the 810 model. This sounds plausible, managing the product cycle is very difficult in the tech business, & I could easily imagine some overpaid person MBA coming up with such a strategy. Anyway, the site claims a radio-included version will ship in the fall; maybe at that point Sony Ericsson will make a available a software update that allows the HPM-80 to work with this phone?

I got this phone as an upgrade from my Sony w810i, which I might add I loved having always had Nokias in the past. I knew that the W880i did not have a flash but to be honest I only really used the flash on my old phone as a flashlight. I also knew it did not have a radio & this was a harder decision for me as I did use the radio a lot. However, the sheer sleekness of this phone won me over & I am very happy. The one fly in the ointment is its tendency to switch off on its own, which is very irritating. Having read that other users have the same problem & that it occurs when the phone is tapped on the back in certain places I have devised a fix that seems to have cured it. I have cut a small square from the sticky end of two sheets of post it notes & stuck that onto the battery between the cover & the battery near the point where the batt meets the edge of the sim card & then replaced the cover. Not very scientific but it does seem to have fixed the problem!

I came to this phone from a Nokia N70. I was annoyed with having a phone that was apparently packed with features, but took 5 minutes to turn on, & weighed the same as a house brick.

So I was not too bothered about features, & looking for a fast, stable, small phone.

The W880i fills all these requirements fantastically.

For all those moaning about the lack of radio or flash or reasonable picture quality I would point out to you the size of this thing.

I think the technology they have packed into it is incredible. I knew it didn't have a flash or radio but I wasn't looking for that, so I choose this phone.

No real complaints here other than a few issues with customisation (there seems to be 3 buttons from standby that all take you into the menu system, & I can't seem to change this?)

Can't wait for the 4GB M2 to come out so that it has some decent MP3 storage

In closing: don't buy this phone if all you care about is features. If you do however want a phone that is small & functional buy this phone, its great.

Beautiful looking phone & a delight to hold in the palm of your hand. But as features go it's a desert!

As others have said:
- It unbelievably has NO flash?
- If you hold a long conversation it gets hot
- & if you tap the back of the phone in the right place it DOES turn off! Annoying!

The buttons were made to be pressed by the hand of a child of 3 ~ hard to get to grips with & would give you blisters if you do a lot of messaging!

Otherwise nice phone with usual easy Sony Ericsson-style navigation & software! Direction joypad is a great! Sony E have obviously learnt from their joystick horrors of the T610, W200i or K800i where it totally breaks leaving you high'&'dry.

Compared to the Samsung D900, the camera features are more limited on the W880i e.g. There is no flash, only 2MP but the W880i has a faster picture capture which for me is much better because the Samsung is very slow which I found annoying as sometimes the pictures came out blurred.

Overall I am very happy with the phone, if you want a light stylish phone but are not too bothered about the camera & just need the music player to make your train journey into work less boring then this is for you. Oh yes, if you have big fingers, you may find the buttons difficult to use as the buttons are tiny.

If like me you have come from the Sony Ericsson W800I do not touch this phone.

If you are in it for image only & don't care about its lack of features go for it.

It's beautifully made without a doubt & so light. Like all Sony Ericsson phones menu navigation is very easy. Everything is easy to find & perform (unlike Motorola's). Don't ever touch a Motorola. There bad for menu navigation.

Anyway. Keypad. Bit of a nightmare especially if you have fat fingers. But I could have lived with this if there was a flash & a radio. In fact I could of put up with the phone if you could get adaptors for radio & flash. But you cannot. None of the adaptors are made for this model yet. Although a previous comment made reference to this I checked it & even rang Orange. DEFO nothing for them!

It seems petty but when you are out on town & you want to record a funny video or make a pic that light is essential. Plus I run so the radio is a necessity for me as I get bored of listening to the same songs over & over.

If you can live without these. This phone is brilliant. I have been so pleased with my last Sony Ericsson. They really make them well & their market share proves this.

I am going to trade it in for either the W850i or the w660i. I have been looking at the LG shine as it is sleek but again NO Radio & not so good reviews.

Hope this review was good for you.

Very nice design feels good in the hand. I can't fault the design at all. The problem I have is the W850I beats this phone in the feature department. The W850i has a very nice Orange light effect on the front & also the camera is a lot better & at least the W850i has a flash light. The screen is tiny on the W880i.

*MAJOR FAULT IN the W880I IS THAT the PHONE DOES NOT HAVE A RADIO! A Walkman phone without a radio? What's going on Sony Ericsson? The W850i gets my vote over this phone all day long.

I don't know what to do with this phone. I wonder is Sony Ericsson will take it back after two weeks of usage.

The phone is bad because:

- The battery must be charged once a day. A full charge is not even enough for a 2 hour conversation.

- The phone gets really really hot efter a couple of minutes. You want to know how it feels to own a W880? Try pressing your face against a black car a hot summer day. I guarantee you, you will get the W880 sensation!

Great looking phone & has a great host of features also to suit most people's tastes.

Buttons may take some getting use to for those with bigger fingers, but is very easy to use & the design of it makes it stand out & really does look the part.

Lack of FM radio & the lack of ringtones & games that come on the phone as standard is not the greatest, trying to force you to download items for more money for whatever network you are on etc. Besides that very good features & layout is so good & easy to get use to.

I have had this phone under 5hours & I have found it easy & simple to use, even for those people who don't like mobile phones, & with the quick menu makes things even easier.

Unfortunately office, let alone out in the street. Maybe I am being bias because I have used the Samsung D600 which vibrate alert is so loud you can here it & well as feel it!

All in all a lovely phone & great to use, but just not for me, but I can see this phone attracting loads of attention from all areas of the mobile market!

Finally got my hands of the best Sony Ericsson ever! Many people have complained about the phones lack of radio & flash, but if you love style, then this is a must have phone. However, if you do want this phone & think it lacks some vital features, go to eBay & buy the Sony HPM 80 radio hands-free & the Flash MXE 60, for less than £20 pounds (Problem solved). Great phone with these additional accessories!

I bought this phone in hope that it would be louder for making calls. I always thought my previous phone, the W800i, was too quiet. This phone is much louder & the general design is just fabulous. The slimness of this phone will get you comments from envious people & it fits nicely into your pocket.

The only thing I don't like about this phone is that the camera isn't very good in low light. The zoom function doesn't work when set in 2 megapixel quality either, but if you're like me & always see the camera as a bit of a gimmick anyway then don't let this bother you.

Apart from that snag it is all pretty good. The Ringtones are much louder also (compared to the W800i) as is the vibrate feature because it's a much thinner & slightly lighter phone. Other features like TrackID & the RSS reader are excellent gadgets to have.

This phone also allows you to download the latest Sony Ericsson software directly to the phone at the touch of a button. You can also download the latest settings for your phone's network at the touch of a button, which saves a lot of time & hassle. Flight mode is another good feature if you're in hospitals or travel a lot & want to listen to some music.

Great phone, buy it!

Having had & loved the W810i I had the choice to upgrade between the W850 & W880 (I am a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone afficianado). There is obviously a trade off between features & looks here which is a shame because the W810i had the best of both worlds when it was released so the choice was a no brainier.

Having had the W880 for a week I am impressed with the style, surprising ease of use, quick Internet browsing, smart os & crystal clear display. I am still going to send it back though.

Simple - No radio, no flash. I know it's tiny but I am sure people would've accepted it a bit bigger if they had included these features. As it is it feels like a step back to a techno geek like me. Also I always a bit worried about putting it in my pocket incase it comes out broken.

To sum up the W880 is like the stunning bird you meet in the bar that looks great but when you get back home it just doesn't do what you expected. I am going to now get the W850i, its may be ugly but when your looking for performance you know this baby has all the tricks in its locker.

I upgraded to this phone after a battle with O2 who wanted to increase my tariff, I managed to win but it was hard work!

The phone is the best I have used. The design itself is worth having it for, the designer deserves an award -So cool- as well as the slim profile & light weight.

It has all the features that you expect as standard as well as primarily being a Walkman model. The sound quality is superb. You also get 3G & Internet which works well, & battery life appears to be exceptional, first charge was after a week of heavy use. The camera is good too, works well in daylight. Ignore the moaners out there wanting a flash & radio, look at the size of the phone for goodness sake, beats me how they have squeezed in what's on offer as it is, you want more then continue to carry a brick around in your pocket, I'll keep this thanks!

I've been a die-hard Sony Ericsson fan since it was just Ericsson in the 90s, deviating twice with a Nokia & the Motorola V3. Last week, I upgraded from an S-E W800i - beautiful, beautiful phone - to the W880i via a brief but unhappy pitstop at the W850i. I am so pleased that Sony Ericsson have justified my years of loyalty with a classy, highly functional, elegant piece of mobile technology.

Good points: pretty much everything, really.

Small niggles:
- Radio functionality has been replaced by RadioDJ, a bummer if you listen to current affairs channels like Radio 4;
- Battery life does not compare to the W800i, have had to recharge mine daily but then I do listen to music - & radio! - Throughout the day;
- No flash / torch.

Otherwise, Beauty & Brains in one package! 9.5 Out of 10. Well done, S-E development team.

I upgraded to the W880I three days ago from the Sharp 903. The phone has taken me a little getting used to given its petit size & especially as I have been used to such a big phone in the 903. But, I have to say, I have adapted quite nicely & it is a joy to use. Holding the phone whilst making calls feels great & texting is absolutely fine also.

The keys, although small, are very well spaced out & are very responsive. The menu navigation directional button is an absolute joy.

I have found the menu system employed by Sony Ericsson to be quite intuitive & probably the best out there, I have had many phones over the past five years phones including models from sharp, Nokia & Samsung & none of them compare to Sony Ericsson.

Connectivity to me PC was easy using the software provided.

The music capabilities & the size of the phone was the real draw for me & I have to say I have not been let down. I got the phone in the flame black colour.

My only criticism of the phone is a lack of an FM radio which I know have been prevalent in other models made by Sony Ericsson over the past few years.

Got my W880i yesterday & thought it would be great but now unsure & interested to know if anyone else has got it on T-Mobile is experiencing problems. Looks great & very easy to use, this has replaced my W810i. When I received the phone I inserted my sim card & when turned on phone still said insert sim card, after 3 times' of taking in & out it worked. Put my sim card back in old phone & then my old phone would not turn on & was just a white flashing screen which has now had to go in for repair! Seemed very odd!

I set ringtones for some of my friends & family & when they called it rang with my standard ringtone that I had set not with their personal ones!

Sound quality sounds very tinny & played about with the equalizer but still the same! Sound was excellent on W810i so confused why not good on this.

Think Sony could have improved on 2MP camera & having no flash is a pain for night time pics.

I wonder if because it's new there normally seems to be faults until they learn but no one else has posted problems. Am getting exchange in a couple of days & hope new phone will be OK as phone does look dead smart it feels like a toy.

My first Sony Ericsson & what a phone! Looks, feel, build quality, features. Etc absolutely stunning.

One problem with mine that I am hoping can be corrected. Got it on Friday. Opened & charged it (fully) on Saturday. By Saturday night the battery was dead. Charged it again on Sunday. Sometime during the day it turned itself off. Ditto on Monday. The battery was dead again on Monday night. Charged it fully this morning (Tuesday) & it's been on standby ever since (3 hours) no calls, no texts, Bluetooth is off etc. It's now down to 84% battery power. In three hours on standby! Surely that can't be right. Like I said, I am hoping it should be fixable & it hasn't put me off the phone at all. Out of 5 I'd give it 4, will knock a point off for this battery problem & also because buttons are a bit fiddly. Could do with another game as well.

Received the W880i today & am on the whole disappointed. The phone looks cool & is very light but it's the camera that lets it down. I was previously using the w800i & the camera is fantastic, the w880i however has no flash or auto-focus which really lets it down, it's very poor.

I have decided to send the phone back & wait for the K810i instead as this phone, although not as slim, has all the features I am looking for because taking pictures on drunken nights out is the only time I use the camera & you simply can't take them with the w880i.

So, if you want a music phone & aren't too bothered about a camera then this is fine. If you actually want to upgrade from the w800i then you will have to wait a little longer as in my opinion this is a step backwards.

I upgraded my w550i last week & when I got my w880i I was more than impressed. The w550i is by no means a small or light weight handset. But it was still a great phone.

The w880i is a blessing. The highlight of the phone is without a doubt its sleek design. With the phone being so compact you can carry it in your pocket with no discomfort. The Walkman feature is just amazing. The sound quality is brilliant; the software for your PC is straightforward; & the interface of the media player is just unbeatable.

Upgrading from a 1.3 megapixel camera I obviously noticed the benefit of the 2 megapixel camera. Which gave a better zoom facility & sharper images. The frames provided with the phone are, again, a great laugh. I now have my gf as a rabbit & my flat mates as cowboy's haha. The only thing that I don't like is that there is not flash facility. Which also means no torch (our electricity is token meter & if the power goes out we have to go to the other side of the flat. Not easy in the dark let me tell you)

The graphics of the phone are of the best standard I have seen on a mobile, although the choices of backgrounds/themes etc. Are very few. However the Sony Ericsson website offers a great range of free downloads.

Unlike the w550i the w880i doesn't come with great games. In fact it only comes with one. & it has the most annoying background music ever. Thank goodness for 'turn sound off' haha

All in all, I would highly recommend this phone. It does its job, & more, still while looking good. The phone has great battery life as well which is a bonus. Sony Ericsson got it right with this one.

Had this phone for 1 week now & I have nothing but positive feedback.

Having owned pretty much the latest Symbian phones from Nokia, Moto's & older SEs. This is the best by far.

OS is extremely fast with no delays. I've loaded up my 1GB memory card & there is still no delay in accessing files from it in either Walkman mode or file manager.

Hitting the down button to access contacts is immediate. Accessing all other menus is fast too.

Battery life is superb & totally blows away my N73 I had. I've disabled 3G (as I don't use it) & my typical day comprises of this:

45 mins of music listening
25 mins of phone calls
10-15 mins of gaming
(Phone is on standby 24/7)

Last night was the first time I charged the phone! (After its first full charge)

OK, my gripes, which are more design aspects.

Walkman. The volume up down method is tricky. You have to press the Walkman button on the top left side of the phone & at the same time hit the toggle button up/down on the top right side of the phone. Takes 2 hands to do this.

Audio connector is through the multiport (which is used for charging & USB connectivity also). Would've been better if the charging port was similar to the Nokia port & had a separate audio jack. But, this isn't a problem, just a design feature.

Camera is OK, but don't compare it to a 3MP version with flash, it's just a basic camera.

Other than that, I totally love this phone. All the rest of my phones have gone to the recyclers & I've only kept my old Nokia 5100 (because it's waterproof & indestructible! ) as backup.

But if you're like me & use the phone for:
1. Making/receiving calls
2. Sending texts
3. Listening to music
4. Taking the occasional photo

Then this phone is great!

The thing that I impress about this phone are the size of it which is quite small & slim with the stainless steel finished on the front surface. But beware, for people with large fingers or texter would find this phone uncomfortable since the numbers button are too small & you gonna miss hit it. WOW!

I got the chance to play with this handset recently at a training convention for the company I work for. I am currently using a K800i which I have had for about 6 months & it is an awesome handset but come the March (ish) release (we have no release date within our company as yet) I am going to buy one.

From the moment you pick it up the W880i feels like it just fits. Small enough to keep in your jeans or shirt but not so small that one handed texting becomes painful. Looks are one of the biggest factors having a stainless steel face & rubberised backing in both silver with black back & black with the trademark Walkman Orange back.

Whilst features such as a 2 megapixel camera & 1GB of memory (from a bundled M2 card 16MB of internal) may seem standard in today's newer phones, the fact that the handset is only 9.4mm thick is outstanding for a 3G capable handset. This factor alone should attract a niche market of people who previously didn't want to go down the path of 3G due to the relatively larger size of the handsets in comparison to 2G handsets.

All in all Sony Ericsson have produced a sleek piece of equipment with well rounded features to bring the slim line handset to the 3G market. I am getting the black one!

I am looking forward to this phone coming out having been using the W800i for over a year now. The W800i is a great phone & easy to use, but the fact that this new W880i is so thin & is 3G really makes it an excellent all round phone. Can't wait.

As with all Sony phones check the SAR rating. Sony's are often over 1.0. Nokia's 6300 = 0.6

Unable to discover the W880i's on the Sony site.

That means you can talk over 60% more on the Nokia before it has the same affect. The Sony K800i is about 0.6 which is the lowest Sony SAR for ages. Top Phone.

I am so excited I can't wait to get my hands on this! I've got the W900i & to go to any other phone would be a downgrade!

I'll have everything I've got now but a much more compact design.

Yahoooooo well done Sony Ericsson!

I haven't got this phone as I am in the United Kingdom & it's not due to be released here until later in the year, but the W880i has real style when it comes to design. Wow factor or what, who won't want this phone? I am looking forward to the W880i being released in the UK as I will be waiting for it. I have the Sony Ericsson K800i at the moment & it's a fantastic camera phone but a little dull in design. I must have a Sony Ericsson phone as they are so reliable & have the best menu set ups for mobile phones. Great designs & great features with Sony Ericsson, keep them coming.
