I couldn't agree more with Jo from Oxon, UK.

I currently have a w810i & was due for an upgrade in Oct 2007. I am still looking for a phone that is worth upgrading to! Samsung need to sort their cameras out (especially at night) before I move to them, & Sony Ericsson need to stop separating their Walkman & camera phones.

I have looked at the w960i & it has such mixed reviews I can't justify the money. The w890i looks to be the best option but has no flash.

I think I have come to the conclusion that getting a phone that incorporates a music player & buying a separate camera is the best option. Camera phones don't yet cut it.

This is a very good phone & should be given an award it reminds me of the T610, the W810 camera is lovely with its 4 times zoom on all picture quality on like the w610 which is the upgrade a year later, I had mine since September 2006 & would love to upgrade but can't find a good enough 5 megapixel that is as well rounded as the W810. Congrats Sony Ericsson for a fine production. I wish the K850 touch sensitive keys were more reliable as that might have been my next phone.

This was my first non Nokia phone & initially I saw all the bad especially the limited nature of the 3rd party software available for the same. However once I started using it, I realised many positives.

- Unbelievably rugged, dropped lots of times. No problems.
- Lots of handy inbuilt features.
- Good sound quality.
- Very good user interface.

However there are some Negatives when compared to Nokia.

- Can't open more than one 3rd party application at a time.
- Speaker volume is just okay. Not loud enough. Clarity is good though.
- When you are transferring some files through Bluetooth or IR, you cannot do anything else.

A very good Sony Ericsson phone. But I stay a Nokia Fan.

I am due for an upgrade next month, I have been offered a selection of phones (mostly Nokia, yuk) or £10 per month (for 12 months) off my current price plan, I have looked at all the other Sony's & nothing really comes close to the W810i in my opinion, I would at least expect other Sony's to have basic features like a light, 4 x optical zoom & a radio! I am always using the light. I use it like a torch! Come on Sony!

I think I'll pass on a new phone & keep my w810i, it works perfect :-).

Had this nearly a year but dropped on the road a few times, still works! Good things are the easy accessible media player, easy use for texting & small & sleek candy bar design.

Bad things are phone freezes a lot on the MP3 player & menu.

Miracle phone as I dropped it into a bucket of SOAPY HOT WATER & it still WORKS!

I like this phone however it's quite thick & even with the memory card there isn't that much memory! It takes too long to just take a picture on the camera & on the Walkman it takes forever to find the song that you want to play. But other than that I would recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a attractive phone that is easy to use apart from a few little downers.

I got this phone for Christmas & it freezes all the time & while I am texting the phone is to slow to keep up with me while I am texting someone. The little joy pad button in the middle of the phone has already fallen off. I am not very impressed with this phone. I also will not be returning to Sony Ericsson after this incident. You have just lost a customer. Thank you for listening to my complaint. Good luck with selling these hopeless phones.

This phone Is Lush Even though I Go through So Many phones Each Year this Is Problems the best one I have had. It's been chucked down the stairs & it is still OK. Even though it's chunky it's well good. You should definitely get it. You can even expand the memory. The bad thing about it is that like the battery life goes up & down & it's really annoying.

I have had this phone for a year & a half. I originally bought it through & I ended up losing it in a cab. I bought a new one from Amazon so it was unlocked & had more features. The only things I don't like is when using the music player, you can't press a letter to jump right to that section (I can't press G to jump right to Guns & Roses). Besides that, I love this phone. I will definitely buy the equivalent model in the future.

The camera is brilliant, the Walkman is awesome, good battery, 10 days but I use Walkman & camera so you could probably get around 2 weeks out of it.

I have dropped this phone time after time on concrete, metal, kerbs & it is still in one piece. Only minor scratching which you can hardly see.

It's very easy for me to review this phone because I just don't have one bad thing to say about it!

Everything just works!

It's very easy to navigate the menu's, transferring music with either the supplied software or one of the many other ways is a breeze, the camera is good enough quality to upload pictures to eBay or other website, the buttons are not to small & so texting is fine.

The music player is what I use the most & is nearly flawless, my only gripe is the fast forward is not that fast so it can take a while to whizz through an hour long podcast for example.

I have had this phone for 20 months, I am on my third after the other two had freezing issues which IMO happens to the majority of phones. If you have insurance or are with a decent company they just replace with no questions asked so not a hassle.

So to sum up, if you want a phone to be a very competent all rounder then I would recommend this one above all others.

I have had this phone for about 1 & a half year's & it has served me well. I always take careful care with my phones & this has lasted well.

This was my first decent camera on a phone, it got all my gig videos & really good for taking pictures, further the light is very reliable.

I really liked the Walkman, as most Sony Walkmans are very good, I also got a 2GB memory card so space has never been a probably.

It has very good speakers & it is really easy to use. I love this phone but now I am onto another Sony phone but with just a 5MP camera.

HIGHLY recommend THIS PHONE.

I love this phone. I loved it so much that I didn't even get an upgrade & then I ended up losing it so I was stuck with a Samsung E900 which was completely useless compared to this phone. Now I have got an upgrade & I am getting the w890i which I am excited about because it looks a bit like the w810i but a smaller version. I definitely think that people should go for the Sony Ericsson's than any other phone because they are so much better. This phone is small, & very easy to use. The camera quality is good & you can listen to music on it. & if you love music then the Walkman phones are really the best phone. I DEFINITELY recommend this phone to anyone.

I got this phone about 15 months ago & it was amazing. It worked fine & it was the best phone that I had ever had until I dropped it a few times, now when I turn it on the screen is just white with purple dots on it.

I phoned up Sony Ericsson & said to them what happened & they replied we cannot fix your phone under the warranty because it was not a known fault with the phone, so I would have to pay £45 just to get it fixed when you can buy a brand new one for £60. So I switched to the cyber shot, love it.

This is still the most reliable phone on the market. Camera is very good for 2MP, even if the light is blinding LOL! Music player is fantastic (like most Sony Ericsson's) even though I don't use it much, very clear & good volume. Easy to navigate through the menus, messaging & calls are very easy to make & most importantly, the phone has never frozen on me in the 18 months I have had it.

Also, very well built, it is thick enough to be sturdy but not so thick that it feels like a brick. A small downside on my W810i is that the WAP doesn't seem to work, but I think that is Orange's fault, not the phones. It is also probably pretty cheap now.

I am due an upgrade from Orange, but having read the reviews of the phones I have been offered they would find it hard to beat this phone. Also, don't buy anything from Orange! I am being messed around by them at the moment. They send you the wrong phone then you have to pay special delivery to send it back! The customer services staff are incompetent, but this is actually an upside because they give you money off stuff :).

I bought this phone because of the excellent reviews. I was put off by the look of it. I sort of wanted a clamshell but decided to go with the W810i, which I got for $182 delivered, with a bonus 512MB pro duo memory stick.

I wasn't sure about having a Walkman phone but it is great & I am so glad I got it. The software is easy to use & downloading songs from my computer is a breeze. I haven't tried the blue tooth or email features.

The camera is good & the video feature is a lot of fun. All in all it is a great phone. It is far nicer in reality than in the pictures. I thought the small keypad would be a problem but the definite feel of the buttons makes it OK. I love the Orange backlight on the keys. It has a nice feel to it. My girlfriend likes it so much she is getting a white one, even though she just bought a Motorola RAZR V3 (which is very pretty).

Definitely recommend.

To be fair it is a pretty good phone, I have the white one, longest phone I have had about 2 years now.

Pros
- Its very strong (I dropped it on a loge ride going up & after going down & getting wet it was still fine! ).
- Fantastic camera for a 2MP.
- Easy to transfer music onto it.
- Good music playback.
- Fantastic battery life.
- Really easy to master & control ( I can text without looking with ease).
- Great torch light on it which I use all the time because I walk in the dark.
- Pretty cheap now.

Cons
- Taking pictures can sometimes be awkward.
- Sometimes the system goes really slowly.
- Pretty thick.
- My memory card sometimes pops out.
- the back that protects the battery falls off after a while.
- Mediocre screen.
- Battery goes red then green again (pretty annoying).

I have been quit picky but there are more pros than cons.

Get it if you want a good all round phone, kind of like the old saying, don't judge it by its looks, it does everything it's said to do well but in a bulky package, but otherwise great phone =).

Also, to Janice Cooper from US reviewed on the 2nd January, you need to blame the SHOP for the problems you've had, NOT the PHONE! You can't give it 5% for everything just because the shop staff lied to you!

I got this phone as soon as it came out, I am due an upgrade next month, but am finding it hard to find anything that lives up to this phone, It is probably the best phone I have had. I can fully is charge it in 1hr & it will last around 2 maybe 3 days depending on whether I listen to music or not. Software easy to upload for placing music on the phone.

Everything is easy to use. Great Internet, allows me to save my MSN inbox, so I don't have to worry about signing in & all that. Compared to some of the newer phone it seems a bit bulky. But that's not a big deal to be honest, it doesn't have an Ariel so who cares! Must have dropped this phone 100s of times, & it still works perfectly. Recently dropped it in my dog water bowl, took it apart to dry, still works perfectly & there isn't a scratch on it! It really is a MINT phone! I'd recommend it, if you're now looking for a cheap but decent phone (wasn't cheap when I got it) but yeh, good phone, good camera, good music. All GOOD.

Always had Nokia's before so buying a Sony was a change. I saw it & thought what a cute white phone. Read reviews etc before I decided to buy it.

I really like the white version, being a bit different from all the standard dull looking black phones out there. & I can find it in my bag easily. The only reason I didn't give full marks for design is it could do with being a bit slimmer, like the new W890i.

I don't use the games feature but do a lot of texting. It's a different set up to the Nokia's, but I find it quicker & the buttons feel nicer, proper clicky. Pleased I can access my Gmail account from it. Web browsing is easy.

As for the music, mine didn't come with a memory card but I am going to buy one so I can store more tunes. You need this as the phone doesn't hold hardly any songs. The sound quality is great though & you can add your own headphones which is good.

Better to transfer stuff using a dongle Bluetooth thingy though as the cable method is very unreliable. Mobile software is never the most reliable to use, but Sony's better than Nokia's PC suite muppetry!

The orbit theme is cool. I didn't realise the little comet changed colours until recently! & it's got a built in light on the back of the phone (not mentioned in the spec) which has come in very useful for when you need a torch!

I bought this phone for around US$220. I love the shortcut buttons on it. For the games, it would only work for some Java games, most of them would run abnormally fast or small.
It's disappointing that this phone can't play wav files, & its loud speaker for music is not really that loud, & the earphone that is included in the package are really poor. You'd rather use a cheap $2 earphone. You would hardly hear your ringtone when you're on the street, or while watching movie at your home.
It doesn't have a good video player as well, it can only play 3GP. You can only install limited mobile tools for this w810i

For the good part, it has a nice camera compared to other mobiles that has the same 2megapix camera. I even compared the quality with a N73, & the w810i wins when you're shooting at night. If you are into customizing your phone, I suggest you get a Symbian 60 phone (probably Nokia). In the end, I'd only use my w810i for mobile camera & Walkman, but when it comes to other features like games & applications, Id still use my very old Nokia 6260.

At first I thought this phone was really good & worthwhile but over the last 4 months it has been turning itself off constantly or freezing, & when I try to switch the phone on again by holding the on off button on top it takes a long time to switch on, if the phone is just slightly tapped or knocked it will again just turn itself off, this can also happen for no reason at all when it is playing music or any other function being used at the time. I have contacted Sony Ericsson regarding this problem, but all they have suggested is for me to download the latest updated software from their website, it has not worked at all, I feel the this is a design or software fault of some kind, especially since I've been reading that this fault is happening all over the world with this phone & also the W850i, don't recommend at all.

Well I got this phone rather recently, & have been playing around with it a lot. The Walkman function is great, as it both integrates flawlessly with the phone's software, yet remains separate, so as not to harm the functioning of the phone. I've experienced a couple problems with it reading ID3 tags on MP3's, but that can also be put down to where you download it from, & what sort of formatting you have on the tags.

The 2MP Camera is excellent for such an essentially cheap phone. It's clear, the auto focus works well, the light is powerful, & the macro lens is really good for close ups. The phone is very easy to use with a computer, it comes with the USB cable (& Bluetooth or infra-red is that the USB connection between the phone & Computer is rather slow (With speeds ranging in the USB 1.1 Low-Speed area). This can become a problem when moving a lot of music onto your phone.

The memory is expandable, & the format it takes (Memory Stick PRO Duo) is quite cheap (I managed to get a 4GB Memory Stick for mine for about £17), & reliable. If you're serious about having a lot of music on your phone, & are partial to removing & adding music onto your memory stick regularly, I would advise you get a USB 2.0 memory card reader, so you don't have to put up with the slow transfer speeds.

The phone itself functions very well, the SMS function is simple to use, the T9 is easy to activate, deactivates, & is expandable with custom words. Sound quality of phone calls is good (partly network dependent of course), & it has plenty of features during calling. Also, good news if you like to deviate from the norm & use other software, it supports a wide range of Java applications, including games, web browsers etc, & if you're really into modding phones, the firmware can be flashed with commercially available software, using the standard USB data cable supplied.

All in all, it's a great music phone. It's near infinitely customisable, with the use of themes, has brilliant Walkman software, is fast, reliable, & well worth what you'd pay for it nowadays.

The W810i is an excellent phone for a first time Sony Ericsson buyer because of its excellent usability & design. I've had this phone for 9 months but have to buy a new one because of my own fault. People say that the white one gets dirty easily but that isn't the case, this phone looks best in white as the black one looks rubbery & plasticky.

The reason why I haven't given this phone 100% for features is because this phone has got demo games. This annoys me a lot in phones & I sometimes wonder why they do it.
