I've had this phone for about 8 months & so far love it except for the buttons which are a little annoying, but I got used to them & it doesn't bother me anymore.
It has had an annoying glitch occasionally with the 4, 6, 0 & left nav buttons which stop working for no apparent reason.
I notice this seems to be a common problem among other reviewers.
I was reading reviews here for the K550i which my daughter wants for her birthday & found a post which mentions the same button problems & a solution. Please SEE & read Paul from Ireland's post.
Anyway I tried this with my W610i & it is in fact the cause of the problem. Any pressure on the camera button will cause the 4, 6, 0 & right nav key to stop working. Try it & see.
I hope this helps those of you who have had this problem & thank you to Paul from Ireland who posted his very helpful findings.
Cheers :).

Can you please help me? I need to know whether to pick the model k550i or the w610i (this one! ) because I like both.
Also, if I pick this model, should I pick the black & white version or the Orange & black? Help Me!

The W610i is louder than the big W810i which has a small screen & has no track ID & the W810i display is bad. I hate the W810i. I don't regret buying the W610i. I don't know why people keep saying that the W810i is better. I think it is because they cannot afford the W610i.

It's a truly great phone, I have it on Tesco simply because it was very cheap & came with speakers, everything seemed great, then after a month I couldn't get ANY signal ANYWHERE & constantly had to turn it off remove battery & sim card for 5 seconds then put it back in, just so I could get signal for about 5mins. I am keeping the phone but I am changing the sim card to Orange or t mobile. Is anyone else having the same problem?

I don't know why people think that the W810i is better, let's see the W810i is fatter, uses old technology, has worse themes, & just looks like it's a brick painted with Walkman logos on it, This W610i is slim, has a GREAT keypad! I can use it fine as can my friends so stop whining! It's camera is the BEST from any Walkman phone & I've used 5 Walkmans including the new W890i! It's themes especially gSharp are just outstanding, the Walkman is a delight to look at & use, yes it may not be as good to look at as the W890i but that's irrelevant. TrackID is great, texting is easy fast & calling is brilliant. This is one of the ONLY Walkman phones to support the flash. If you think the W810i beats this baby then you need your head testing! Stop listening to the whiney people who say oohhh they keypads bad IT ISN'T! It's better than the W890i, W880i & CERTAINLY BETTER THAN the W810i! Like the previous reviewer said, GO to the shop & try it! It's available now. BEST Walkman EVER!

What don't have anything to say other than WOW. This phone just rocks. I was about to buy a W810i. But I saw this baby & done some research at the Internet. I heard so much bad about this phone. But anyway since I was so much heard about its superb advantage over w810i except camera (who cares for mobile camera anyway because I have my Canon A720IS Digital camera) I finally decided to go for this baby.
But after I bought this mobile, I just love it. It has all the good features with Walkman 2.0, A2dp, Better Screen (TFD, at least it uses less power so you can have more talk time). It has better memory (m2) & all. It also got a faster processor & Multi tasking abilities. That's the best feature I liked. Also has flash lite support.
It has got good battery backup. I am impressed. Also I don't know what they say about the keypad. But I just love them as its perfect for my hand. It's perfect for my hands. It feels so comfortable for me. So if you waste thinking about the keypads, I suggest you to go to a showroom & use for yourself & see if it is good or not.
So as a conclusion, I could say, I love every aspect of this phone. I would recommend it to anyone. Hope this helps.

I think the w610i really lacks of battery & Walkman 2.0 player is rubbish it repeats itself, blanks the screen & the music stops playing the same thing happened with my cousin w610i the features & the design is hot. I only had this phone 2 weeks now. I had my k550i 4 months now with no problems but I sold it I am such a fool. Now my w610i is spoilt which is wasting a pack of dam money. I spent 2200 dollars on the w610i.

I have had this phone for over 6 months now. Haven't encountered any problems yet. Usage is very comfortable, unless you count the volume buttons which are rather hard to press. Narrow keypad keys seemed hard to use, but I got used to them very quickly. Overall very happy with the phone.

I had this phone for a year it was very good & from the damage it sustained lased very well.
It was submerged in water multiple times & dropped multiple times & still worked perfectly, I thought it was broken but I just replaced the battery & it was fine.
I only replaced it because I wanted something new, a good average cheapish phone.

Excellent phone it has good usage but has two things wrong with it the phone keys are too squashed up together & there is not that much battery life also the headphones that come with the set are too small & make you feel uncomfortable if you find a problem with this use your own headphones that suit you.

I have had 4 of these phones from Orange in the past 10 months. The latest has failed after just 10 days. I keep getting serious error, contact Sony Ericsson, stop using phone immediately.
In the time before this, the phone gets hot & starts running very slowly, often sticking on certain pages, & the speaker buzzes loudly. I am giving up on this phone model altogether now as I have no faith in its reliability. I am very pleased that all you other reviewers seem to have had trouble free usage. Long may it last!

I had this phone for a couple of days now & am sending it back to Carphone Warehouse. Yes it is a nice looking phone but the keys are ridiculous. I have small fingers but the number 4 key is particularly irritating to press & because of where the camera is located, sometimes activates the camera when pressing number 4. The buttons are not well spaced apart & the navigation keys are awful. They are very uncomfortable to use.
The camera is OK, not great but OK. The best thing on this phone is the Walkman player & as always Sony Ericsson have great menus which are user friendly. So in conclusion, if you want a small phone with nice music sound quality & don't mind ridiculously small keys, then go for this phone.

I had this phone for around 6 months. There may be some glitches with the phone, but mostly can be solved.
One reviewer says his or her w610 can't support WMA audio file, what I want to say mine supports WMA. Maybe his was a fake as there was fake w610, I did saw them. Avoid buying from the Internet & seemingly irresistible offers. The fake & the real ones had little differences. Even I hardly detected the difference.
Camera cannot zoom unless in VGA mode. Other camera phone like the w810 allow zoom up to 4X in all picture size, this are fake' zooming which is obtained by digitally enlarging the image captured by the camera. If you observe close enough using a computer picture viewer, you can find the quality has severely deteriorated, not obvious to be seen from the 176X220 (0.039mega pixel) screens. View the picture in landscape mode in file manager & zoom using the volume button (up to 32X) & save as Large. Furthermore the quality of the camera obviously can't compare to digital camera. If it does, what is the point of buying a digital camera? In fact the camera on w610 wins when compared to many other more expensive, high end phones.
Phone lags. Clear off messages & unwanted media files that will cause burden on the phone processor. Upgrading the memory card to 1GB plus also load the phone. If not needed, stick back to its original 512MB card. If phone error occurs after certain file has been uploaded (especially Java games downloaded using Internet), delete it. Phone might go to white screen & restart when sending data through infra red connection is interrupted (e.g. the receiver cancels the transfer) or when phone connection reset.
Difficulty in using the USB file transfer 'Error: USB device not recognised'. Prior to connecting the USB, move the plug that has been connected to your phone slightly upwards & downwards a few times. Often the socket on the phone will be blocked by dust, thus preventing a good connection between the phone & the computer. Clean the USB port as well if it has not been used for a long time.
Cracking of the back cover. I dropped my phone once from a moving bicycle (Luckily no car was following) & all it has is a few minor scratches. If your phone cracks, I recommend you stick back to Nokia 3310.
My listing might be not complete, but as you see the problems related to the phone can usually be solved. (Except if you had been purposely boycotting the phone, I had no comments) or that you had been too rough with the phone (Pressing very hard on the buttons).

The phone is good & light. I had the W850i which I found to be bulky & poor battery life, opposite to W610i. The video playback quality was better in W850. What this phone is missing is the 3G capability. Also the keypad is fiddly.
I thought the music quality is good, but the 2GB storage capacity is not enough. So need to carry spare flash memory to fit all your video clips & music.

It keeps saying to Insert Sim Card but it's in the phone. I read the manual & it said to take it out & clean the contacts, etc. With a Q tip & alcohol. I did that & it is still saying the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've had this phone for a while now & apart from its design, IT'S RUBBISH! It keeps freezing, shutting down & doesn't want to play WMA files anymore. Others in my family who have bought this phone have experienced these problems. My best friend Will bought the K550i recently, they're similar & yet he doesn't have these problems! His camera is better (Although it is Cyber shot) his K550i can play WMA files! The K550i IS the BETTER OF the TWO! I am GLAD that this RUBBISH phone isn't available anymore.

Love the phone, navigating is easy, everything is straight forward, only drawback is that I am on my 5th phone in the last 6 months due to various phone faults! What an awful phone. It's been nothing but a nightmare since I bought it 3 months ago. In that time, I've had it repaired 3 times & replaced 4 times. Yes, FOUR times. & it has now broken again. It seems the workmanship is really shoddy, judging by other reader's comments, some people seem to have no problems, but others, like me, nothing but trouble.
On every phone I've had, the 4 key sticks & so you can't type a 4, g, h or I. Intensely annoying when you're trying to write a text in a hurry as it can take half an hour.
Then there is the problem with the last two, people phone me, or I phone them, but as far as I can hear (nothing), I am not connected. They hear me fine at the other end but I am unable to make or receive even the simplest call & expect to hear anything.
The phone just does not work, end of story. & Vodafone claim total ignorance & refuse to replace it with something else for me. I am totally unimpressed.

I got this phone for about two weeks now & it is really cool. I started getting problems in the sounds while using the supplied ear phones, it's getting choppy especially to high pitched & RnB & rock songs. I would take the ear phone out & plugs it back in & it works well again. I also tried taking it out from megabass mode to fix. But at times it would come back again so I have to restart the phone. I have not downloaded the updates from Sony yet though so I will try doing that first & maybe that will solve that problem. Other than that, this phone is very cool. Superb!
- the camera is OK for me. Got better pictures & long recorded videos. Nice flash light (photo light), will help much when you're walking alone in the dark.
- the music is very cool when in bass mode (when I am not getting that problem mentioned above).
- the themes are cool, downloadable.
- Got no problem synchronizing it with any PC.
- Go get this one.
- Nice & sleek.
- Too good to have, & so better grab one now.

I think this phone is brilliant. I had an amazing contract deal for the phone, I wasn't too fussed on the appearance of it at first but I really like it now.
It did take my a long time to work out how to use it but once I got it I found it easy, but all the Sony Ericsson's have nearly exactly the same layout & it think it's brilliant. The phone has got really good features & the memory card the phone came with is really good. I have it for a year now, & think it's the best phone I've ever had. When I get an upgrade, I am going to stick with Sony Ericsson!

I've had my W610i for a week now & I love it. It's the silver & black version. My last phone was a K510i & I upgraded because I wanted (a) more memory to store music & (b) a flash for the camera. I looked at the W580i (good but no flash), the W810i (too chunky) & the W880i (too expensive & no flash).
Memory - Removable 512MB M2 Micro card currently holds 86 of my tunes & still has 137 MB free. Sony Eric's website says 'supports up to 2GB' but you can get 4 GB M2 cards now. Shame these cards cost twice the price of equivalent SD cards.
Walkman - the W610i's Walkman feature gives you a cool 'Family Tree' view through Artists & Albums to Tracks. You can bypass any level if you want to. You can build playlists of tracks to suit your different moods. The phone has dedicated buttons for Volume up/down & Play/Pause. The Nav button gives FF/Rewind/Prev/Next track when in Walkman mode. You get a 5-band equaliser with 5 presets & 1 manual. The sound is brilliant through the supplied earphones. Playing through the speaker loses some bass without being tinny. I am going to get some external speakers - either S Eric's plug-ins or Orange's big Bluetooth ones.
Camera - At 2 Megapixel, better quality than the K510's 1.3 MP. To use zoom, you have to either lower the picture size to VGA or choose the 'Panoramic' shoot mode (this sets it to VGA anyway! ) the flash starts as a bright light as soon as you select it, reducing red-eye. Press the shutter button & it pauses a second for the auto-focus, then flashes really brightly as it takes the shot. The camera has fun 'frames' to turn your friends into spacemen, bunnies, 'Wanted' posters & others. Picture quality won't rival today's 7 Megapixel cameras but you can't phone with an Olympus!
Software - Transfer files between phone & PC. Synchronise contacts, appointments & notes with Outlook. Convert most music file types (incl. Music CDs) to MP3. No problems with PC or phone locking up.
Other good stuff - It has a radio with RDS (gives the station name). It's slim & sleek with a great mix of lines & curves. The back looks just like a camera! Phone calls are clear & haven't cut out.
Those keys! - the keypad took a while to get used to, but I am there now. I use the edges of my thumbs, near the nail. I've never been a fast texter, but I am now as fast on the W610 as on the K510 & my previous Nokia 3210.
Some bad stuff - I was showing it to someone on Monday &, when I pressed a key, the screen stayed blank. Same with three other keys, then it sprang to life. Not happened since (now Saturday). The PC has failed to find the phone twice so far when USB connected. The sound recorder refuses to work. Two of the four Nav key shortcuts (up & down) don't work. These are mostly minor, but I might exchange it for another.
The K510 had a great application - World Time - that is not on the W610. Maybe I can download it from Eric's website. The connector socket is on the side, forcing the earpiece cable up & across the screen until you tuck it behind the phone.
Overall - Sleek, sleek & powerful with a few niggles. Moving from my old phone, I've lost a little but gained a lot. Nearly full marks - buy one!
PS - a lot of reviewers have asked questions about the phone's capabilities. Have a look at the Sony Ericsson website & click 'List all phones', then click the W610 & 'Read more'. It answers all the 'does it' questions that I've seen.

Terrible waste of money when I first got it I thought this crackles a bit when speaking now had it about 4 months every time I receive or make a call it crackles & they can hear you but you can't hear them only way it works is if you bang the phone on something. Which then causes the inside issues & lines appear on your screen. Don't BUY IT WASTE OF MONEY!

I LOVE THIS PHONE. At first I was torn between 3 great phones. The Samsung F300, the Nokia 7500 Prism & this one. In the end I chose this one as it was the cheapest but it turned out to be the best of the 3. Great music player use it every morning when I am on the bus to work. Got mine in Black & silver very slim & easy to use. I thought I was going too have problems with the small buttons but they work fine. Large memory comes with 512MB memory card & built in memory of 64MB for all you media needs. Shame about the camera as it is only a 2 megapixel but still great. I would recommend this phone to anyone. Buy One Now.

Just bought one today & took it back within two hours as the buttons on it are rubbish the start button was sticking & not responding & I found the other buttons too small OK if you had small fingers so Sony get you act together as it is a nice looking phone & also screen colours not very good compared to the w850i that I also had that was faulty so no more Sony phones for me.

It is great, the best phone I have had for a long time & I get a new phone every month but this time I am going to stick with it. I have had it for quite a while & loved it, nothing has gone wrong, I play music & listen to the radio & use the camera a lot. I found out that the camera was a bit shocking.but it is actualy OK when you get used to it.

The best phone I have had. Unsure if the camera is as good as the k750i, should be as it is 2 megapixel compared to 1.3 megapixel. Think I better peel the lens protection sticker off! It's slightly thicker than the w880i, but worth the extra thickness for a light/torch & RDS radio. I got used to the smaller buttons in a week, so no moaning going on here. Top Walkman facility. Respect to Sony Ericsson.

I have this phone in Silver, & think it's gorgeous! It looks stylish & is very compact & has loads of great software. Its camera is good & delivers clear, crisp pictures, as well as the Walkman with loud clear sound for a phone. Used to have a K750i, but this is so much better! Although the keypad is a bit small, it's very easy to get used to! I would definitely recommend it!

This is a great phone that is packed full of features & looks great! It's very easy to use although the small buttons make texting a little bit harder than normal.
Everything about this phone is excellent although the Walkman player is not as good as my iPod but is miles better than other mobiles such as my previous Samsung d600. This phone is worth buying!

Bad phone to use. Sometimes it will not take the memory card & the settings we selected from memory card is lost. Then key pad is the worst. Then sometimes calls are automatically cut by phone. This is a big problem. I prefer you that do not take this phone.

It's a great looking phone which I bought yesterday. Can't work out how to use TrackID but otherwise it's great. Thought the buttons would be hard to use but you get used to them easily. I love it!

This is a great phone, I am really a critic when it comes to mobile phones but this W610i is good.
Good:
- 2.0 Megapixel with autofocus.
- Walkman 2.0 player.
- Slim.
- Lightweight.
- Flash-
- Battery last for 3 to 4 days (for me), even though I am playing the MP3 for hours.
Bad:
- Can't use the zoom when it's in camera mode.
- Poor display in camera mode, like W850i but with autofocus.
- If you have fat fingers, well it's a nightmare.
- Not 3G, better read the articles or reviews first before buying any mobile phone to suit your needs.
- Poor display, the display of W810i is much better even in camera mode.
My conclusion here is, if you are not much into capturing images, this phone is good for you, nice & crisp sound of the songs, not hanging, not lagging or self restarting. But it's better to use memory card reader for you to avoid white screens & phone crashing. (This is based upon my experience in using this W610i).

I bought the phone 3 weeks ago. But today I have a problem related to the camera. Somehow, the photos which I snapped using the camera does not save in the camera album folder or pictures folder. I am not sure where has all these photos gone. Can someone from Ericsson explain to me please?

Hi I got this phone three weeks ago on pay as you talk, it is a great phone but the only thing is the buttons stick a lot & if they don't stick the a button won't move from a to b to c, & the screen flickers a lot, is this normal?

Regardless of how many really useful features this 'phone may have it is rendered virtually unusable by the ridiculously small keys, its s total waste of time, don't buy one!

People this is a good phone. I am not sure what's wrong with some of the people below me, but I am guessing that they went to some cheap website to purchase their phone.
My W610i has been with me for 3 months now. It's been a great phone. It is one of the few quad band phones in the line of Sony & that saves me while traveling. There are a few negatives, but way more positives. Here are a few that I've found.
1. I have big hands & fingers so texting is slower for me on this phone because of the tiny buttons. Girls or guys with average to smaller hands/fingers will do just find on this phone.
2. The back of the phone that comes off so you can get to the battery squeaks when you text because of pressure & a lose fit.
3. The camera could have a better zoom option. Someone below me said that they could not zoom with theirs, but they just didn't look close enough. You can zoom, but you have to switch the shooting mode to a smaller pixilation.
Other then that everything is really good. The battery lasts for 5-6 days when you don't use it that much & 3-4 days when you do (I use my phone all day for work). MP3 player & radio work awesome & very easy keys to get there & back. The camera is really nice, but could be upgraded. The reception is superb! It comes with a larger memory card then most phones so you can save a lot of songs & pictures right off the bat. I can go on & on. Sony E. Is by far the best phones out there.

Ppl this phone is awful, if your thinking of getting it then don't because you will regret it. To start just look at the keypad it's bad. The only difference between this phone & the w810 is of looks & it is slimmer. So please buy a w810 instead if this. This is not a reliable phone at all.
A MAJOR FLAW IS ITS CAMERA, my advice to ppl is to not to buy this phone you better go for w810.

I've had a lot of Sony E's over the years & I am not too sure about this one. Walkman is good. Camera very poor, got better pictures out of one I had 3 years ago. It gets stuck on random programmes. For some reason where I had reception I don't anymore.
Buttons very small, make texting hard. Plus sometimes you press the menu ones & it either completely ignores you like you have no right to make that option or takes you elsewhere. Think I am sending it back & trying the 850i. At least it works with a Mac though which is more than I can say for my old Samsung. If you do get this phone, good luck.

This is an excellent phone. I don't find the small buttons too bad, despite initial fears. Camera, Walkman, radio & basic phone features all easy to use. Battery life is pretty decent. The back of my phone isn't all that solid & feels a little loose, however, there have been no real problems since I purchased it.

I have it 3 days & I love it. The camera is good & produces great pictures while taking them in daylight, but in dark it's not that great. Buttons are annoying at the start but once you get used to them, it's like using any mobile phone. W610i has great options, great MP3 player (I think the best). After 1 charge I used it to listen to radio, conversations, listen to MP3, sending & receiving files & I can say the battery is good, but not brilliant as they say on other web page. But I know that after 4 charges, it gets better. I recommend it!

GREAT PHONE? Being a Sony Ericsson man for a fair few years now, maybe not for much longer, am now on my 4th w610i in 5 weeks, first 3 all had same problem, software very slow by time it had recognised you had pressed to answer call, caller had rung off, text messages take a lifetime to open or send, add that to small fiddly keypad & poor camera not good, my advice steer clear, as said am on my 4th which came through today, (thought)! Hope no one calls or texts me to much hassle. If it sounds too good to be true it normally is! Beware!

Alright. I have had my w610 for about 10 days now. Been using it like a mad man. Upgraded from a Nokia. & I got to admit. Nokias seem to be a lot more user friendly then Sony Ericssons. But don't take long to get used to.
But anyway. About the phone. Firstly I got to say the MP3 player is amazing. Great quality & the shortcut keys on the sides make it extremely easy to use.
