Where to start. Had this phone since Christmas. Not a long time at all is it. The buttons have begun to crack, but so has everyone else's. A bigger problem to come.

All the top buttons (the Walkman button, the OK button, the left buttons & the right buttons) none of them work! You have to deeply press down onto the screen & press the buttons to actually make it 50% chance work.

The lights have completely gone out of the buttons & the side lights have gone as well.

The memory card slot is so hard to open. & the memory card always seems to come out of place. The back blue paint under the slide has all chipped & the back won't go on properly. Since I dropped it, ONCE.

Useless phone, my opinion is don't get it!

First few months I had this phone I thought everything would be perfect, nothing would go wrong! How WRONG was I. Total rubbish!

I've already wrote on this site saying how much I loved the phone. But I've got to say, it is the worst phone I've EVER had. I did have the grey but it got stolen & I was heartbroken. Then my mum & dad decided they would replace the phone. I got it in the white this time & wasn't over keen on the colour but decided to keep it. Anyway, I had this phone for another 3 months & four of the keys cracked 1, 3, 7 & the space button.

Also the big round button with the arrows & that. Then the space button stopped work altogether. When this happened I had every intention of sending the phone back on the insurance but decided I couldn't be bothered I just wanted a new phone because loads of my friends had the same thing happen to them & the insurance told them it couldn't be repaired. On the 3rd of May I went shopping with my mum because the night before I had seen the Samsung soul on the TV & when I looked it up on the Internet I thought it was amazing. I went into the Carphone Warehouse & asked about the phone. I had a play around on one & loved it. I got a really good deal in the end & even got a two GB memory card for nothing. I really don't recommend the 580 but the soul is brilliant!

As I read through all the reviews on this mobile phone, I am beginning to get angrier & angrier. I got this phone for Xmas by my partner & after 2 months the buttons cracked & my photos kept disappearing, & the key were very slow to respond, 20 seconds to be exact. I took it back to the shop & it got repaired, 2 months later keys cracked again, so off it went again to the shop bearing in mind the shop is half an hour away by train. Came back but 2 months later for a third time the buttons have cracked, & the back button snapped & screen has fallen down. The Orange shop won't issue me with another model of phone, I was offered £25 off a new model, so you know what they can do with that £25! All I want is a phone that works, I have never had problems with Sony phones before, this has made me think about changing network providers & also reverting back to the Nokia phone's, which I've had no problems with in the past. Very disappointing, DO NOT BUY!

I bought this phone in November & to be honest with you I have had very few problems. The screen goes dark from time to time (as in pressing the buttons don't make the screen appear) but thats happened with all the Sony Ericsson phones I have ever had & all I have to do to see the screen again is slide it up & down or just press the play key a few times. If worst comes to worst I turn it off & turn it on again & it is fine. Recently though, the battery life has gone down a bit, but this might also be because I listen to music a lot.

Regardless, I consider all the above to be minor issues & still think the phone is excellent. I think I was extremely fortunate in getting one that has not been blighted by the cracked keys fiasco or other serious problems & I got mine off eBay!

The Walkman is amazing, sound is amazing, & the camera is quite good too. Stll can't figure out how to zoom though.

I love it, but because it really is pot luck if you'll get one that functions as it should, I am not sure I would recommend it to others. I would not suggest you buy it on pay as you go as many people are still having problems with theirs.

I read all the reviews on this phone before getting it, & I must admit I almost didn't. Almost all the reviews talk about the buttons cracking & the phone freezing, but I have not had this problem yet. Touch wood. I spoke to the adviser in the O2 shop & asked about the buttons. I was told they have a new keypad which is more durable. This seems to be true. My phone is yet to freeze. Touch wood again LOL. The design is beautiful & I really like the coloured lights, which I had on my old phone & partly helped sell the w580i to me. Music quality is great & I absolutely love the fitness features built in. The phone is slightly slow to react when opening or texting but I soon got used to it & learnt to text a bit slower. After having the Z310i for over a year it was a welcome upgrade. To anyone considering this phone, but being put off by bad reviews, I suggest you give it a go. After all, the keypads have been made stronger & the phone is an amazing phone.

I am thinking about getting this phone for my birthday in pink. Two of my friends have the phone in grey & blue.

One of my friends has a crack on the 2 key but you can hardly see this so it won't be much of a problem to me. Also the same person has marks on the back where the slider rubs the paint off. Still, my other friend has no problems so I think it's just about how well you look after it.

Me & my best friend are really looking forward to getting this phone (she is getting it in white) & hope we have no problems.

One more thing, my friend says you can't change the lights for when you're just on the menu & you can only change them for callers. Is this true?

Help me out please.

I got this phone in the new sleek red colour a few days ago so it isn't my full review (may review again in few months time). Compare to my last phone Siemens C65 which I been using over 3 years, this is a big improvement for me. It's a bit of a learning curve for me (button functions) since I so used to my old phone. I fully aware of the keypad problem but I assume since the red colour is the latest version, the keypad should hopefully be alright but I could be wrong. The keypad does look dodgy though.

My only problem that I got with the phone is that it seen the red version from Orange (got it from Orange shop) have remove the light option (to change the lights). I did read online it in menu, setting etc but it not there in the phone, nor the instrument booklet mention the light at all. This may seen minor but it really tick me off since the lights were one of the reason that I bought. If anyone from the UK also got the red version from Orange but got the light option, please let me know how to get or find it on the phone.

I bought the phone literally 5 days ago & the keys messed up which I was very surprised about now I have replaced it for another & by reading the reviews am worried that it will get messed up again. I really liked the features on it but I feel like hiding it under my pillow for long last use as the reviews are so negative about the phone, which may possibly be correct.

I am using Sony Ericsson for the first time as usually I buy Nokia or Samsung, which with Samsung I have had so many problems with, this pone may not have as much features as Samsung but is better! I have never had any problems with Nokia as the 7373 was perfect, I really do hope that the keys or memory card don't mess up.

More or less it's a good looking phone!

I bought this phone yesterday in the new sleek red colour so I not given it a full review, more like my first though after 24 hours I bought it (may give another review after a few months time).

Consider that my last phone was the Siemens C65 this phone is a great improvement to me since I have been using the c65 for over 3 years. It a bit of a learning curve for me to used since I so used to the buttons & function on the C65 (e.g. Return button was on the right but on the w5801 it on the left) but I will get used to it.

I fully aware of the keypad problem but I just guessing since the new red colour is the latest version, it hopefully shouldn't break. The keypad does look dodgy.

The two things that I found the phone annoying is there no clock when it on standby meaning I have to keep sliding it up which is annoying when on the move. The second & most annoying thing is that it seen with the Orange (got it from Orange) version of the phone, they remove the light effect feature on the phone (not the theme, I mean the option of changing the light). I did read that it in menu, setting & sound & alert there a light effect option but this is nowhere to be found at all in the phone & the instrument booklet didn't mention it at all. This really ticks me off because this was one of the reasons why I bought it. Anyone out there who lives in the UK & has got a red w580i from Orange do got the light effect, please let me know how to get or find it on the phone.

This is the worst phone I have ever had to be perfectly honest. It always deletes my pictures & music. I can't get any of my pictures back, or videos, or music. It's always freezes. I have only had it a few months & I already want a new one because of how shockingly bad this phone is.

I give this phone 10 out of 100.

I got this phone for Christmas! & my mum bought me a new SIM but it wouldn't take it so I had to use my old one.

Everything was going OK but the buttons are not good! 3 of mines are cracked but I don't see the point in going to get it repaired because they might just break again! So this Christmas I am going to get a new phone (if it lasts until then)!

I got this phone in October & I've got rid it. It was great for storing music & photo's & was very loud & I like the way the sides lit up when it rang, but I hated it because the buttons cracked (like everyone else's apparently) & I also had the problem of the memory card popping out of place, I nearly had a heart attack because I thought I lost everything, thankfully I realised but problems people have had I can share. It froze a lot I had to keep taking the battery off & putting back on. I have now got LG KF700 only come out a couple of weeks ago & I love it.

IT'S ME AGAIN!

I have already posted a comment before, back in December. Now, since then A LOT of things have changed with this phone, but then again they haven't. FOR instance, when I last wrote, I was on my SECOND keypad. I am now on my FOURTH!

When I had it fixed for the third time & finally got it back after waiting ANOTHER 2 weeks, the buttons wouldn't work (AGAIN! ) It turned out the actual buttons underneath the fancy keypad was broken & didn't work. So I had to send it off almost straight away after getting it back for repair. This was the FOURTH time it had been sent off!

Carphone Warehouse said to me that they had made a new HARDER keypad, so I was like 'Ooohh thats great' & it was sent off for the 4th time to get a full keypad & buttons repair!

At first, the keys did feel firmer & I finally thought that I could use my phone without worry of the buttons cracking again. But to my surprise & horror, 2 days later, they started cracking, ONCE AGAIN! Astonishing!

So, this time I was annoyed & angry, because I am fed up of this phone cracking & breaking. Letting so many people down, I don't KNOW WHY it's still on sale! Anyway, so we went BACK to the shop, & they said, 'there's no point in fixing it again, we will just give you a list of phones & handsets that you can swop it for as a replacement.' So they have. I have the option between 2 Sony Ericssons, 3 Samsungs or 1 Nokia. But after this experience with my first Sony Ericsson, I think I'll NOT go for one of them!

People, this is just annoying & a waste of money. Listen, within 7 full months & a bit, this phone's buttons have cracked 4 times, the actual keypad has broken once, the paint on the back is wearing off, the battery is terrible & charge it every night, the play button in the middle is losing its colour around the edge & my on & off switch has sunk it.

& now, I have three more problems on my phone.

- the memory is saying its full, when it's not because I deleted a WHOLE LOAD of files this morning.

- Whenever I am mid doing something on my phone, the phone will freeze for about 2 seconds, go back to main menu, lights will turn from red to green & it will start violently & rapidly flashing changing from menu to start screen. After this is then stops & just goes dead. To get it to start back up again, I have to wait about 10 minutes before I turn it on & it actually works, until the next time it does it.

- the back has come off. & it PHYSICALLY will NOT go back on!? It's so weird & irritating. Yes it was my fault for dropping it, (it fell out my pocket) but the back should surely go on. I have tried, my mates have tried, my family has tried, the shop staff have tried & it just won't go back on. So I am forever making sure that when I do use it, the back doesn't come off!

This is NOT a good phone!

PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT GET IT. It's just a waste of time. My mates got it after me, & ALL of them have had the same problems, (even problems with the Bluetooth & connection! )

DO NOT GET THIS PHONE. LISTEN TO the PEOPLE WHO ARE TELLING YOU FROM EXPERIENCE, NOT the PEOPLE WHO 'think it won't happen to their handset.' IT WILL, & YOU WILL BE ANGRY ABOUT IT, BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE WARNED YOU & TOLD YOU. DO NOT GET IT, WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. Don't follow the pretty design, FOLLOW the FACTS!

You've been warned by A LOT of us, listen to us ALL!

I've had this phone since Christmas & nothing has gone wrong with it!
I've got the pink one, so the sides light up purple & my keys light up pink!
I love that when someone is calling me the sides go from blue to red to green!
Also the speakers go quite loud.

So over all I recommend it, I'll be keeping it for many years x.

Loved the look of this phone when it first came out & really wanted it. Once my contract finished I finally got it. Had this phone for 4 months & within 2 months the 3 buttons had cracked. Memory card cover kept opening & nearly lost card more than once. Slider also goes very stiff. Software also went weird & would not save messages to my inbox! Now has been sent away for repair & turned out that it cannot be repaired! Very upset & have ordered a different phone!

If you are considering this phone think very carefully. I would not have another one & it's more hassle than it's worth so I suggest you stay away from this phone! Four other friends have this phone & ALL have been sent away for repair.

I bought this pink phone for my daughter in December 2007 when we got it home we found the back wouldn't come off (she wanted to put her contract sim in) so we took it back to Orange, they gave us another we had that 2 weeks & the buttons had cracked so back we went & got a third I was told if it went wrong again I could have a refund.

Guess what!

Yes you're right the phone went wrong after having it 32 days the buttons had cracked the number 1 button had fallen off & one of the bigger buttons at the top left of the phone was hanging on by a piece of thin plastic, I went back to Orange but they told me I couldn't have a refund as it was over the 28 days (yes by 4 days) they did offer to have it repaired but I refused as it was the third phone with faults.

So I got legal advice & put it in writing to the shop giving them 14 days to either refund my money or change it to another phone.

I heard nothing from them not a peep so I rang the Orange shop up & was told by the manager that it was being dealt with & we would be able to come to some agreement, did I hear anything NO, so I took advice again & put it in writing giving them 7 days or I would take it further, tick tock went the clock! I never heard a thing I rang the shop again & told the manager I wasn't happy & will be taking this further he then offered to send the phone away & she may get another phone but if I did it would only be the same as she has now which I didn't want or it may be repaired it depended upon what they said at the other end when they looked at the phone, I spoke to my daughter & she said she wanted a different phone, so I rang the manager back & told him no I don't want what you're offering, I will take it to court he told me that he would email the other end & see if she could have a different phone without the hassle of going to court, he rang me back today at about 5pm to say they had received & read the message but had not replied as yet & he would ring me tomorrow morning & keep me updated.

I don't want to take this to court but I will if I have to.

I hate this phone. I got it on contract with O2 in September 2007. Since then each month I have had to send the phone back to O2 for a replacement. I have had 4 replacements due to the buttons cracking & parts falling off, admittedly the 5th replacement was because I broke my phone. After escalating my complaint to a manager of O2 they agreed that I can either send the phone back via a shop to be repaired or I can have a replacement, w910i. I refused to go to the shop, it was bought online not through a shop plus I do not have time, so took the offer of the different model, which should arrive tomorrow. But after reading the reviews of the w910i I am not so sure I will be happy with that.

Overall the w580i rubbish phone, not only happened to me but my mate also.

For the first 39 days this was the best phone for my son. I had decided I looked it so good & worked so well that when my contract was up I would consider getting this one. Well that has changed now. The LCD behind the glass screen cracked on day 39 & since the Sony warranty is only for 30 days I am being told I can have them repair it for $175. They continue to say this is physical damage. The phone has not been dropped or physically abused. I am still in the process of trying to get to an escalation manager to get them to fix it. A friend of ours got the phone & within 10 days he had the same thing happen to him. I would not recommend this phone. It is expensive & the company doesn't appear to stand behind the problems with it.

I have had this phone for about 6 months now, & it has been unusable for about 4 of those months. The buttons have ALL cracked, & the phone seems to enjoy switching itself off whenever it pleases usually when I have to make an important phone call. The only way to get it back is to take out the battery & put it back in only to get a further two minutes use before doing the same thing again & receiving error messages on the screen saying sim card not inserted or similar, when the sim card hasn't been removed since I got the phone. I have reverted back to using an old Nokia till someone can get it sorted for me I am not going to settle for a replacement handset I want a different one all together. Sony Ericsson have always been really good for me & their phones are good for music which is the main reason I buy them but it seems that this phone likes to forget that my memory card is in the phone & therefore I can't play my music! & the slide becomes really stiff & gritty after a few weeks! Has anyone else had these problems apart from the buttons thing because I know everyone has dealt with that.

Don't listen to the other reviews, I have had the phone for 7 months now, & I haven't had to send it back, the buttons don't crack, the colours on the side of the phone are working, & when I do something, it always responds in about 1 to 3 seconds. If you treat it carefully, it will have no scratches for up to a year.

The only problem is that if you use it for a day, constantly, for about 15 hours, it will run out of charge. Don't LET THIS PUT YOU OFF THOUGH! It will recharge fully in about 55 minutes.

Probably the best phone I have ever had.

I have the pink W580i & have only had the phone for 3 weeks, as a whole the phone is good. However, I have found a few problems with the fact that the phone freezes during games & has to be turned on & off again. The memory card pops out if I catch the top, & for some reason I cannot get the blue light to stay on. If I go on the music player the light will turn yellow. If I go back of it, it turns blue, but if I go back on the music player & off again the light stays yellow & the only way to change it is go back to themes & reset it. Is it just my phone or is it a design flaw.

Apart from those few things I cannot find anything else to fault it, I really like the shades of pink & overall I am happy with it.

Me & my friend have bid for this Sony Ericsson W580i phone on eBay & are very excited to hopefully receive it. Our friends have it & they haven't had any problems with sitting on their phones neither the buttons cracking. I think it should be fine as long as you take good care of it meaning not putting it in your back pocket when sitting down. I recommend this phone to anyone, it is slim, stylish & sleek. It has good features & great for using in a busy everyday life. You can view your emails on it, I think. Also people say that you can't zoom in on the camera unless it is on VGA but that isn't a problem really because a phone is for texting & calling people so if you wanted to take a picture of something, then surely you should just use your camera!

The Bluetooth downloads the songs really quickly, I think. You can also download games from a computer using a USB cable. It comes in a good variety of colours such as pink, grey & blue, black & Orange & white & Orange. It has video player & video recorder. It has GPRS, even though I don't know what that is.

Other than that, I think this is the best phone & I haven't had an experience of it cracking even though I haven't got it yet but hopefully I won't have any experience in my time of using it.

I hope this helps people choose if you want this phone because if I was you I would get it.

Where so I begin! This handset has been a problem since the beginning! Hence the low review percentages, I have lost patients with it all!

I first handed it in to get sorted because of the speaker being broken (making calls impossible), the keys being cracked, one of the navigation buttons coming lose & the memory card slot cover being broken, I had the phone only 3 months!

It came back & the speaker was still broken (CPWs fault not SEs) so away it went again. This time it came back & the speaker lasted all of 3 days!

It was time for a replacement handset (the fact that this took 3 weeks was again CPWs fault not SEs). This has now lasted 3 months & the screen has just broken as well as having some sort of software malfunction in which it switches off whenever it feels like it usually when your trying to use it!

Again I am getting a replacement but I am holding out to get a new model & not this one!

If your thinking of buying one, don't!

Another thing I have just realised is, today my phone was in my pocket, & it was fine & I got a text so I took it out & looked at the text, & I realised that all my pictures, songs, videos, themes, etc, were all gone. It said that my memory card wasn't in properly & so I checked, & it was. The only quibble I have is with the camera. No flash, & you can't use the zoom unless it's in VGA mode. However, it does take nice, clear pictures & if I want top quality photos I have a separate digital camera.

Very annoying. Buttons crack & you have to send phone off for 2 weeks to get it fixed. Also if you put your phone in your back pocket then this phone will annoy you as when you sit on it the phone will unlock itself & call somebody. This is because one of the phones shortcuts is previous calls & when it unlocks itself it will go into previous calls & ring somebody. Not good for credit.

However, if you don't put your phone in your back pocket & you are willing to send you phone away for 2 weeks a very good phone.

I just got this phone it's really good. I really like it, I read the reviews on here but I still got it & it's great for now. I hope the buttons don't break or crack, so I don't use the buttons much. I have it in grey & I love the design & how its looks, I am happy with it so far.

This phone looks good has a lot of features but there is a problem with this phone!

When I bought the phone it seemed OK but after about a week it started to show problems. These included shutting down & then restarting saying insert SIM card when my SIM card was already in! Also when receiving & making calls it would freeze which is really annoying because I got charged for the calls & not being able to continue with them is a real pain in the neck. Even when I am listening to my music on this phone it jams on its own accord so I sent it back to Sony Ericsson for repair, a week later it came back, they said they had repaired it but didn't give the reason on what was wrong with it at this point I thought good my phone is back & now I might actually be able to enjoy using it however it was worst than before I sent it off! Great that's £4.50 spent to send it safely to Sony Ericsson wasted!

I wouldn't recommend this phone if you have the extra money then I would suggest you get a W910i as it is much better than this one or if you are low on money you could try to send this back to your vendor & get them to replace it with a model worth the same value or one worth less.

I am not commenting on the S500i as I do not own one but reading your reviews I will not be owning one! I have a Sony Ericsson W580i & oh what fun I have had with this phone, love the design & the technique of the phone but the amount of times this has been sent back to Sony with the keys cracking is a joke I got the phone in August last year with a contract shame on me because in the 7 months of having the phone I have had it to myself about 2 month if that & when you send it back its gone for at least a month to 2 month it's a joke & if Sony know that this problem is persistent they should do something about it & change the way of the keypad on the phone in the end they agreed to send me a brand new W580i so let's see how long it takes for this one to crack!

I have now got this phone & I think it is amazing.
The features on it are absolutely brilliant.
The design of it is so stylish. I think it is absolutely amazing.

However, I have noticed how loose the buttons are. I am very concerned & I am praying they won't break. However apart from that I have no problems with this phone.

Sorry for it been so long I just feel people should know that there is a serious problem on this phone.

I first got this phone in November I was really excited to get it because I was told it was a good phone. After about 2 weeks I noticed that a couple of the buttons had a hair line crack on them. I thought nothing of it & thought it was maybe something I had done so I took the phone back to the shop. They said they would exchange it but they didn't have any in at that time, which was fair enough. But they never told
