I got this phone today because the other phone that I had was a Motorola W377 but it was rubbish but this is brilliant & I do not know what you people are talking about because the keys do not fall off.

I bought this phone not long ago, but it seems very good to me. However, I think that the design on the Sony Ericsson W595 is better. I haven't used the W595, but I think it has the same features, just better camera & higher memory.

I would seriously recommend this phone, I've had it for a year & it's really simple to use. It's also extremely robust! In the last year it's had a few rather bad falls whilst I've been riding my horse & 2 weeks ago it got dunked in a water bucket. & it still works!

The back's a bit smashed up & like the other's have said, my buttons also have cracks down the middle, but none of this has affected it's performance.

Basically if you want a simple, good looking phone it's ideal!

This is a nice phone & it works well but, it does have a few problems. Firstly, I bought this phone & after a two years, six of the number keys had broken. They still worked but had cracked in the middle. Next, the main side keys became wobbly. Finally, the LCD screen broke & I had to purchase a new one. But, they can be purchased for under £10 & can easily be changed in less than five minutes. I also have know quite a few people who have this phone as well. They also experienced the same problems.

So, overall, it's a good phone & lasts a reasonable period of time so I would recommend this phone to anyone who will be changing it in roughly two years.

I have had this phone for just over a year & have not been pleased with it overall. My first problem with it was how tiny the keys were, but I adapted to that. Then, all the keys started cracking. I am not even one of these people who has their hand in texting all day long. Just a few a day. If you are a texter at all, this is not the phone for you. The battery life is minimal, & I have replaced the battery once thinking it was a bad battery.

Now. The final problem is that the screen is starting to fail. It is changing colours & goes to black & won't come back on until I repower the phone. Since I am in that annoying place between my warranty working & my upgrade time I am having to go back to an old phone I had stored away in a drawer. Good thing I never got around to getting rid of it.

I had the grey version in December 2007 & my keys cracked as many of yours have, other than that I loved the phone.

I like the pink version & in a shop the other day I was looking at one & the keys didn't seem to be the same as they used to be, they weren't wafer thin & so I'd hope not so easy to break? Can anyone confirm whether the new versions now on sale have new designed keypads that don't break? Ta.

I bought this phone about 6 months back. I don't know what you guys do with your phones. Even after falling off 4 times from my hands once in mud & thrice on concrete except of minor scratches it doesn't have any major problems. It has some crazy features & a good MP3 player. The camera is good but the videos are not good. It's easy to use but is slow some times. The design is great. I have no problems with the keys up till now. If you're thinking OF BUYING IT JUST DON'T HESITATE.

OK I'll be honest. Cute phone, has a step counter & everything, totally girly, but the phone itself. PATHETIC, I have had mine a month & the buttons broke. What's going on Sony? You have totally gone downhill!

I 100% recommend you do not buy this phone, it's a waste of your time & money. Stay well clear.

I've had this phone 1 year now & the damage is starting. The 2, 3 & hash keys have cracked, but still work, the left & right soft keys aren't too bad, but sometimes they come out & are a NIGHTMARE to put back in.

The middle key is my biggest nag. From day one it was playing up but I made sure I didn't press too hard or do anything that might break it. Now it is literally hanging on by a single thread & I am worried that it will fall off soon.

Also, the chrome finish on the circle keys outside the central one (don't know what they are called) is coming off.

My Sony Ericsson attachment on the back has come off, & the logo is now just green, from the silver finish wearing off.

This is all just general wear & tear, & the good points about the phone are.

- Easy to use camera.
- Easy to upload music.
- the shake feature (although at times seems a little pointless).
- the Walkman Player is AMAZING!
- the battery lasts quite a while, & I am always playing music & on the games.
- It comes with a memory card (although I already had a 2GB M2 card & sold the 512MB one that came with the phone =D).

All in all, the phone is very good, but there are better phones on the market.

I thought this phone was good to start with but I've had it for 10 months & it still works just but my buttons have cracked & yesterday my menu wouldn't come up at all I had to go through my shortcuts to get to my main menu but apart from that it's an OK phone considering I have dropped mine a few times its still in one piece music quality is good but camera isn't so good as the zoom doesn't work very well & pictures can be a bit blurry but I guess that's life not everything about a phone is good.

I have had two of these phones & both of them have broken beyond repair within six months. I first got the phone & everything was fine then the screen decided to stop working & the phone finally gave up all hope. Still I loved this phone & decided to buy another one, Bad idea. It has just broke on me, lasting just under 5 months.

I have also known people who had had buttons breaking off.

I loved this phone & to be honest it was a letdown. I was a fool to buy it twice.

Where do I begin! This must be the worst phone I have ever bought. I have had so many problems with it for example, the buttons cracked twice, the vibration broke, one button fell off. After the 4th repair, Sony Ericsson decided to send me a replacement (reconditioned) just before Christmas & now the replacement has broken. I would seriously not recommend this phone!

Looking at reviews to decide what to replace my 18 month old phone with. If I believed everything I read I would never have another mobile, then I saw the reviews of my outgoing W580 & apparently it is the worst of the lot! I don't know what you people are doing with your phones, from the standard of some of the writing I suspect making full use of your 1000 plus inclusive texts per month & then throwing it around the school playground! Anyway apart from the battery not lasting quite a long as it did 18 months ago, & a bit of the chrome finish peeling off the central button it's as good as new.

I love this phone! I don't know what all these comments are about avoid this phone & it broke first time. I've had mine for 2 years now & yes the keys have slightly cracked & there are a few scratches but the phone works, has a decent camera & a good MP3 player!

You just have to know how to look after it. I dropped it at the beach the other day & it fell on a stone & the back came off, I put it back on & it was fine. No harm done. Sometimes the memory card isn't recognised, all you have to do it open the memory card slot, click it out & click it back in. This phone is great so I don't mind spending a few moments doing this! A very worthwhile phone, stylish, good app's & easy to use.

You're all going on about cracked buttons, poor battery life & rubbish memory, but all of this is fixable yourself! On the memory front, 512MB in the m2 card is not the greatest! But an easy solution, do what I'd, I spent £8 in the phone shop, & got a nice big 2GB card! Oooh whoa. Already 4 times the size (H). How hard was that. Next, the buttons. I am on my second W580. I have never ever had a problem with the keypad on this phone, one recommendation for avoiding the aforementioned cracking issues, simply have the phone slid open or when you text, don't press so hard. The reason I say have it slid open, is the heat dissipates from the battery when you're charging it, & goes up to the keypad. My only serious 2 nags about this phone, which thoroughly rubbish me off are.

The silly MEMORY CARD SLOT! It's a common occurrence amongst Sony Ericssons. You can just go to your phone, play some music & you're presented with Playback Failed. So you think err right OK, check phone status, memory card is in? Check your media album with your music & pictures. They are all gone? Restart the phone. Whoaa they're back.

Next, the SCREEN. This screen is fantastically brilliant! It's big. It's clear, it's hard to scratch. But seriously. It's so exposed, it's almost begging to be smashed. As my last phone did. I have found a workaround, I ordered a nice crystal phone casing & it works a treat for protecting my screen, & weirdly enough. I haven't had memory card issues since using it, I think it's a pressure on the casing issue that causes it.

Matt.

Got this phone in April last year. Very nice look to it & easy to use. Phone was working fine up until November. Some of the keys started to crack, however, this did not affect the way the phone operated.

A problem with this phone is that sometimes the theme will change to the original Walkman one, & to change this you can either wait a while or switch the phone off & on. For a period the phone would not turn on when holding in the back button. I had to take the battery out & then put it back in again & then the phone worked. This has not been a problem now, strange. Be careful not to drop the phone. I have done this on a number of occasions by accident, the phone has been fine but once, the lights had changed colour, so instead of them both being green, one was green & the other blue. The blue light flashed constantly even when the phone was off. This lasted a few days.

Other than that, a good phone. Very handy features.

Rubbish.

Charlotte. I am on contract & I have had this for 6 months ish. So far, the select button & the cancel button have broke, the keys have split & because of it I have found it incredibly hard to text on. People are saying this is a brilliant phone, but they obviously haven't had any problems with it. Because I use this quite a lot as I am a teenager, I have to charge it quite a lot, I also use this to listen to whilst walking to school. The connection in the phone is not working. Hopefully Orange can sort this out for me.

Lauren. Memory card is rubbish, turn my phone on & it says the memory card is not in but it is & you have to reset the phone.

5 out of 10.

We recommend that Sony Ericsson take this off the shelves & give us the upgrade!

Design.
The design of this phone is absolutely appalling. The battery cover for starters is stupidly thin & vulnerable to being snapped. I read many reviews on how brittle & subject to breaking the buttons were, I decided to ignore these reviews. I myself found no problems with the buttons & they still remain in 1 piece. The screen of the phone cracked in my front pocket, purely from the pressure of the pocket when my leg bent to sit down. I decided to replace the screen myself as Carphone Warehouse were prepared to charge nearly £50, I brought the screen on eBay for £20 inc P&P when replacing the screen I realised that there was no plastic protecting the screen, so the electronic screen is exposed to the elements with no protection, I then broke it again although the second tome it was my own fault.

Features.
The phone is absolutely bursting with crazy features, such as shake control, a lovely MP3 player & some useful applications. I was disappointed that the camera had no camera. I was happy with the camera although video recording wasn't very satisfactory

Usability.
The phone is really easy to use & has a good feel to it. Buttons are a good size. Good for texting & gaming.

So although features are good & it's usable, I would strongly advise you avoid this phone as it is very likely to break. The w880i seems like a much better option.

Well. I am getting a new phone on Saturday & I have had this phone for about 1 year.

The phone features are great & the camera is OK :). But every key on mines is split & it freezes a lot :O.

My sister also had this phone & she had to get it repaired 5 times in the 8 months she had it. Sending texts are easy & fuss free. Signal isn't bad. Music on it is average not very loud but it will do.

My only really nag about this phone is definitely the design. The keys split & I have also heard some of my friends have broken right off.

I love this phone! I have had it for almost a year, no broken keys, no messed up music player, speaker volume is great, & it has a weird, sort of, velvety feel to it. The thing about it is it took me a while to figure out how to work it, it won't play iTunes music, & I dropped it a few times & now the screen colour is messing up. It's my own fault, though. With how much I use it I am very surprised that so many people's keys broke & chipped.

The design isn't the greatest I do like it but it feels plasticy when I hold it & slips easily it's a good little slide phone though.

It works almost perfectly after the 2 months, my space button on texting has stopped working so I have to use the next arrow key & it can be frustrating but it's nothing really to complain about because everything else is good, it sometimes freezes for a few seconds but nothing too bad.

Overall a good mobile. Not the best but it is good.

I have had this phone for 7 months now & have not had major problems.

I have had a few minor ones though.

I have noticed that when I plug it into the computer, once I am done it takes forever to get the screen to go back to normal.

I have also had, one button crack in half. It still works, but it was a manufacturing defect, I haven't had any other problems that were said here before, once I had my pictures, & all my stuff disappear, but I just restarted the phone & it worked fine.

I find the battery life to be very good (if you're having problems with battery life, try turning off the step counter, & make sure your music is off.)

& if you're having trouble with the music playing make sure you are using the Walkman music player, not the other one, because the same thing has happened but just use the W button on the front.

All in all I think it's a good phone I don't regret purchasing it at all.

I had this phone for Christmas & my mum had the Sony Ericsson W380i & it wouldn't charge so she took it back & got the Sony Ericsson W580i. She had it for 5 days & the volume button on the side stuck, the battery was not charging & she could not make a phone call with ease.

The good points are.
- Loud volume.
- Good Walkman player (but cannot find out how to put songs onto Walkman & not just onto the music folder).
- Good games.
- Good camera.

The bad points are.
- Hard to make a phone call on.
- Quite hard to text.
- Hard to transfer & find music files.

Overall I would recommend this phone to people that like a bit of girly style & want a good long lasting life phone & do not listen to music all of the time because the speakers might break & best not to be a heavy texter because of what it put's forward above that the keys may break. To all the reviewers saying don't listen to the negative feedback. It's a good phone etc. You are just lucky your phone hasn't broken yet.

This model is, to be generous, AWFUL.

I've had this phone since July of this year, & within 2 weeks every single button on the keypad had a crack down the middle, much like most other owners of this phone. All my other phones survived many drops, high & not so high, & never broke. The first time I dropped this (not a high distance, not concrete) the back fell off the battery fell out & the front of the screen fell off. One of the bits holding the front of the phone to the screen snapped off so it wouldn't go back on properly & I couldn't press my buttons. I also discovered that the buttons are just a little rubber pad that you can actually take off when you remove the front plastic part of the screen, meaning every time I would drop or forcefully put down the phone & the screen came off, I would have to readjust my buttons before placing the screen once again.

I got my phone sent back & repaired, & within 2 days the same thing happened again. This time a more forceful drop (I know, I am clumsy. But my other 5 phones survived me until my contracts ran out.) & the screen snapped off. The bits connecting the front to the screen once again snapped off, but both this time so I have to balance it on & secure it with sellotape. The back part covering the battery snapped, so again holding it with sellotape.

Before even one drop of the phone I discovered the camera & particularly the video quality are POOR. Really poor.

The speakers are very good for music & volume. But ridiculously poor when trying to hear someone talk. It is muffled. & there is a gap in sound every single time you answer the phone so if someone rings you, you have to wait 5 seconds before saying hello. Or they won't here you.

The keypad has broken again, which is nothing to do with being dropped. It just clearly isn't designed to be used for texting or dialling more than once a year. It freezes, every time you remove the sim card & replace it, it messes up the time & order of your inbox & call records.

All in all. Good music quality. Good amount of memory (if you get a memory card included with it.)

Otherwise. Worst design of a phone I have ever come across. Unpractical, EASILY broken & generally rubbish.

If you plan on keeping your phone locked away & getting out once a week to make a quick phone call in a room of bubble wrap where it can't possibly get dropped or even knocked on a relatively hard surface, & you have very good hearing when it comes to peoples voices, then by all means. Buy the phone.

Otherwise, seriously don't bother.

This phone is awful. Usually whenever I buy a phone it lasts me for years (I am pretty careful with them).

This phone however, I've had for less than a year, & it's caused me major problems. The buttons cracked, & I had the keypad repaired, only for the keys to break again. The top left button on the upper part of the phone then became faulty, & recently the full left side is broken. The camera is okay, but would've have been a lot better with a flash.

The design is pretty poor, as at the back, you have to remove the difficult back to change sim cards, & that's a nightmare. I had to use a knife to get my sim card in.

Overall, a pretty poor phone. Doesn't last, doesn't even function properly for one year, don't waste your money!

The music player is good & I like the quality of the sound but now after about 11 months it is really bad & when first turning the phone on it takes ages for the music to be recognised. The phone often rejects the memory card which means you have to push it back in! 6 buttons on the front of the phone have broken including the up button, the shortcut button, the right button, the select button, the return button, & the Walkman button which means I can't use it anymore & I also do not have an on & off button I am honestly not making this up. A lot of my friends have this phone & there buttons have broken & the number buttons have cracked! I must say though the phone will not break I have dropped a lot & it is still going! There is quite a bit of memory on the free memory card but not enough.

If you think about buying this phone please read reviews & try not to drop it =D.

I HATE this phone!

I got this phone last Christmas & within three days I had to swap it for another as buttons had fallen off. The memory card wouldn't eject. It kept freezing. Making unusual noises & was just awful. Then I got another one. This one is even worse! When someone rings me. I can hear them. But they can't hear me. When I am listening to music. It randomly vibrates & jumps about 20 songs & I am not even touching it. All the buttons have cracked & some have actually fallen off. The volume button is broken. The camera is extremely poor.& the Internet on it never works.

I think the only good thing about this phone is it has a lot of memory. & the volume is fairly loud. Apart from that, I would advise no one to get it as I have hated it & can't wait to get a new one. Anyone have any suggestions on which phone to get?

I got this phone for my teenage daughter, & initially she was happy with it, after having a Nokia.

However, she soon got fed up with the memory card popping out nearly every time that she used it. The return key kept sticking & in the end gave up altogether.

It also keeps freezing when listening to music. This particular fault is common to Sony Ericsson's. We have four Sony Ericsson phones in our household & they all freeze when playing music. One of them can only be reset by removing the battery for 10 seconds then putting back in.

I had thought about getting the W910, but have decided never to get another Sony, & will be getting the LG Renoir next. We've had a couple of LG phones & have never had a single problem with them.

THIS IS the WORST PHONE I HAVE EVER HAD!

There are so many faults it is untrue. I first got the pink one in June. After about a month ALL of the keys had cracked, then the screen decided to turn a funny colour, it was that bad I couldn't even read my texts! So I bought the white one. I was very happy for about a month, then the memory card slot kept opening by itself, without being dropped. So I got ANOTHER white one. With this one the two side buttons & the middle keys came out so I sent it to be repaired again. Then yesterday it decided to stop sending text messages. I checked in the 02 shop & the problem is with the phone not the SIM card!

I would not recommend this phone to anyone! It causes so many problems & is not worth the hassle. The only good thing about it is the music player which is actually the only thing on the phone that works & is amazing!

Whilst it is a usable phone there are so many faults it's not even funny.

Firstly the power button & front keys stopped working, had to get them repaired but the power button only works seldom, the volume buttons have now packed it in.

Every so often whilst using it the phone has a hilarious habit of rejecting the memory card all of a sudden & you have to eject & put it back in.

The Walkman button & shortcut button are activated if you apply any pressure on the edge of the circle of buttons on the front which gets right in the way if you're trying to use the phone.

The MP3 player mostly never listed the albums in the right order despite having up 2 date ID tags, it just seemed hit & miss sometimes (track list worked fine on my old w300i so this is specific to the phone).

& most annoyingly not only is the quality of the camera rubbish but there are loads of coloured lines running horizontally across which then get captured along with the image ruining it.

I wouldn't recommend this phone (though it is easy to use).

Please ignore all the negative reviews above. I got this phone last Christmas & I LOVE it.

The music player is really good & so is the camera. It's only broken once & that was partly my fault because I left it in my jeans when they went in the wash & even then I fixed it & there is only a small crack in the screen. I got the white one & it's been really reliable.

The downside is that the battery runs out really quickly so you have to constantly charge it. I have found it easy to use & very useful. I am extremely happy with it & so are my mates who have the same phone!

VERY PLEASED!

What a rubbish phone I would never buy this ever again! & it has made me doubt if I should buy a Sony phone ever again!

I bought this phone last year just before Xmas, & after 3 weeks the buttons cracked & fell off so sent it back for repair within days the buttons cracked again & my space & hash button stopped working, the cracked buttons I could live with, but this is supposed to be a Walkman phone & 2 months after the buttons cracked the speaker packed up so could no longer listen to music & it no longer rings just vibrates (when it feels like it). I carried on using the phone for a little while but then the screen kept going blank whilst in the middle of text it would just go blank & light up.

I would never buy this model of phone ever again, this is the first Sony I have had as I normal stick to Nokia & although it was very easy to use & get the hang of so many other problems occurred with it, so I now doubt Sony phones in general especially slide ones like this.

I got this phone a while ago after falling in love with it. I took it everywhere with me, often to take it out of my bag & find that the battery was dead, although I had done nothing with it. The sound is brilliant, exceptional through the headphones. The camera is absolutely amazing for 2 mgp, the quality is better than my 5mgp digital camera, but I was shocked to find no light on it. Granted I have had it a long time, I have dropped it several times & only a few chips. But recently I was staying at a friend's house overnight when I took it out of my rucksack & realised that the back case at the top which is NOT supposed to come off had separated itself from the actual phone down one side. The on & off button had snapped & half of it had disappeared. The lights on that side stopped working completely & ever since the keys have been cracking. It doesn't turn on sometimes & never gets any signal anymore. I am heartbroken because I love this phone & spent a lot of money on it. Now I am having to look for a new one. DON'T GET IT. YOU WILL ONLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT.

But now I can't wait to change it as the buttons cracked in the middle, the back button, the button above the back button & the top button are not working now! BUT LIKE THAT IS AFTER A YEARS USAGE. SO BUY THIS PHONE & STAY WITH Sony Ericsson AS THEY ARE the BEST PHONES AROUND.

You may be wondering whether to buy this phone or not, you may have read all of the negative comments below & wondered perhaps if I have one it won't break or have any problems.

I decided against all the negative reviews to go ahead & have one last Christmas & WHAT A MISTAKE! Well it's been 11 months on now & it has been an absolute nightmare to be honest.

Firstly 5 keys cracked within 2 months of it being used, so it was sent back to Sony Ericsson to be repaired. Once I had the phone back, within a matter of weeks the phones buttons started cracking again!

I decided I could live with the keypad problem, but the worst was still to come. The call lights each side of the slider began to stop working full stop & to top it all off, the back key, the up key & the navigation short cut keys have all stopped working killing my user ability of this phone. Today the phones speaker has recently decided to pack up as well, I now need an hearing aid to hear the person on the other end of the phone.

This is definitely the worst phone I have ever owned, the keypad is simply not up to the job & the build quality is pretty cheap overall. Please avoid this phone as you're most likely to get many problems with it.

I was really excited about getting this phone, & in the beginning I loved it. But then all the problems started. All of the buttons on the keypad have split in half, BUT they do work & the back button completely broke, & then all of the other buttons were just falling apart. I had this phone for my birthday & now I wish I would have picked a different phone.

I would say the only good thing about it has got to be the Walkman. It's truly amazing.

Most Sony Ericsson phones are worth the money, yet this one isn't. It's just a down fall. It's NOT worth the money.

To be honest, All the Phones I Have Had Have lasted Me Quite a While, I Haven't Even Had This Phone For A Month & I Have Had So Many Things Already Go Wrong.

- the 5 Button Stopped Working, Meaning I Couldn't Use the Letters J, K Or L In Any Of My Texts Or Call Any One's Number I Didn't Have Saved With A Five In & Making It Impossible To Top Up If My 16 Digit Code Had A Five In.

- the Clear Button Stopped Working, Meaning If I Was Texting & Made A Simple Mistake I Would Have To Start the Whole Text Over Again.

- My Play Button Stopped Working, Not Too Much Hassle But Still A Pain.

- My star Button Stopped Working.

- the Background Light Flashes Decides Whether It Wants To Light Up Or Not Makin It Impossible To Be Able To Do Anything.

- Its Stopped Sliding Up & Down Altogether, & If You Try To Push It Gently Down It Refuses To Move & Makes A Terrible Crunching Noise.

So If This Is What you ask for in a Phone I recommend it to you with a Trip to the Doctors.

I honestly don't Think It Is Even worth One Star but I can't Chose Zero.

I took it back to the shop & had to wait for 2 weeks to get my phone back. I got it back & the number 5 was still half broken. I couldn't afford another 2 weeks without a phone so I ignored it. Then the phone started turning its self off so I had to return it once again. I demanded a new phone altogether because it was getting ridiculous. It didn't come back until 5 weeks later! Still the same phone! So I had to order another phone. It was fine for about 2 month & then the case started to come lose & the screen was wobbling & then the screen had lines across it! My buttons have cracked, my 1, 2, 6, 8 & hash key does not work, nor does my shake mode or my down button.

It has recently started Malfunctioning, & by this I mean that it constantly deletes numbers, pictures, music & video's off my phone & has started to randomly turn itself off & when I try & turn it back on using the on key, that doesn't work, as a result of this I have to ram the battery into the slot again so that it jolts on.

Its looks are good, but the screen scratches too easily & so does the body work.

The keys come out of their holding place too.

I fell in love with this phone because it looked like the s500i but people were complaining because of the s500i's cracked keypads & plastic casing so opt for this one instead plus it is a Walkman phone. It's like a bonus!

The colours they offered for this model were pleasant & I got the blue & grey version. The features were great multiple alarms, 2MP camera, video recording, music ID tracker, the shake function to skip a song, the pedometer (not that I used it but hey, everything else was just great).

Purchased it October 2007, however after the first 2 months, the keypad cracked & I was unable to use the return & OK keys, which were really important keys. Sent it for repairs, got it back 2 weeks later & 2 days after the same problem arise. Sent it back for a thorough check up, & it came back with a whole different problem, when I try to snap a picture, it refuses to save it & returns to the display menu. So sent it away for another 2 weeks, then the speaker problem arise, I couldn't hear whoever that was calling me, very very muffled even if I turn on the loudspeaker at the highest volume level.

It's been a year & I just sent it yesterday for the speaker problem & the keypad to be change as it cracked again before the warranty finishes at the end of this month. Perhaps I just got a bad set but my personal experience was quite terrible. But I heard the speaker & keypad problems were common for this model.

I have had this phone since last Christmas & I thought it was really good at first, until the buttons started cracking. Also the button has come off & one has stopped working & the Walkman player button has stopped working so that whenever I move the phone or text the Walkman comes up & starts playing. My cousin has also had the same problems & has sent it back lots of times & its broken again its a nice looking phone but isn't that good.

It's a good phone does what I need it to do but it's weird sometimes when I open it or whatever my background has gone so I automatically go to my pictures to find out their gone.

So I go to my music file & their gone to :s.

But when I leave it or whatever & go back to my music file the music I have on it come back & when I press back its loads for like 5 seconds & everything is back to normal & this happens a lot 3 times today in fact only bought it like 3 days ago.

Does anyone else have this problem? If so any advice?

Owner for just over the warranty period (how convenient, Sony Ericsson). Very nice features & all but NEVER meant to be actually used. Too bad, I really liked this little phone & I do not abuse my phones, but when left (soft) key & camera key stops working, I am really thinking of throwing this phone to finally meet its designer.

Don't buy it, it's cheaply made, looks good but does not get down to business. If you met someone like that in a bar, you would stay away ;-).

Sony Ericsson used to make rock solid phones, but these days there is less & less Ericsson & more & more Sony in them. Just too bad.

It's a good phone for the month or two then things go downhill!

- Camera is average.
- Music is average.
- Memory is bad.

But it just falls apart! I might drop it a bit but not much the whole front came off & the buttons came loose the slide is almost jammed & onetime the actual screen fell off & now the pixels have broken & the screen is smashed well it is a good phone at the start.

& what's the fuss over the shake thing it's not that good!

I would buy it if it was under 50 quid but any more & it's not worth it unless you wrap it in cotton wool. Kids do not buy! It will break!

Now I need to pay shipping costs to get it back to the US & back to Europe, plus go without a phone for 3 weeks. All for a phone that won't be replaced but REPAIRED after not even a day! Terrible customer interaction too. They could care less that their product didn't make it a day. Avoid this phone, & this company, at all costs. Total garbage.

I was really impressed with his phone when I had it but after a few weeks the shaking novelty wore off, 2 buttons had cracked the casing had fell off at the bottom off the main buttons where the microphone is & the on & off button had broke & the connection had broke off inside the phone, the coloured lights wouldn't flash at all & there was a lot of things wrong with this phone I have had it since March & all this has happened & I took it back to the shop for the 5th time & they said it will cost from 20 to 100 pound to be fixed well if it costs more than 30 I am not having it back, it's a waste of money & I wouldn't recommend the phone if you want them to last, also the colour on the back soon wears off from the sliding motion & this makes the phone look tacky. Don't buy this phone! It just stopped working for me, when I tried to plug it in to my laptop, & it just switched off, never to be on again. (Reading from various websites, this is known as the red flash of death) So, I sent it away to Sony Ericsson to be repaired, & I got a letter from them the other day telling me it is beyond economical repair due to liquid damage & if I want the handset back unrepaired, I need to pay £11.75.

The phone is not durable, or even usable. The shake novelty wears off after a while & you begin to grow bored of all its malfunctions. I have just ordered the W350i, & I would recommend that as it is cheaper, & better quality.

Only the very lucky few have this phone without a problem. It promises everything & how some of you point out it's problems & yet STILL give it 95% on a review I don't know.

If it does NOT do what it should how can you give it a 95% score. Just because it looks good? Do not be fooled. Do not go near it! You have been warned. Sorry but it is an absolute mess & they will sell you it if you are silly enough to ignore these reviews

After being repaired 2 weeks later the keys cracked again sent away a month later the screen turned itself off & wouldn't turn back on again repaired. The day after receiving it back I heard a deafening buzzing when you answered the phone apparently due to a faulty connection. Got it back today after 3 weeks of being repaired. Not expecting to have it 4 long. Good looking & OK features but you will never be able to use it because it will always be in repair. Would I advise anyone to buy one? This is the WORST phone I have ever had! I got this phone last November, & by December the keys had cracked. After 11 months of having it, the phone only gets worse, the volume button won't turn up, making phone calls practically impossible, keys are cracked, the hash key doesn't work, so writing text messages is difficult without a space key. Also, the button on the right hand side with c on keeps popping out, & the rubber underneath doesn't go back underneath the phone case.

The camera isn't fantastic, the only good thing about this phone is that it has the shake to shuffle feature, but once the novelty's gone it's as rubbish as everything else about the phone.

Worst phone I've ever had, Sony Ericsson have let themselves down, I am going elsewhere!

HOWEVER, it is flimsy & cheaply made, & everyone I know who has this phone has had problems with keys breaking, memory card falling out, keys deciding not to work one day. Mine started to go wrong after just 4 months. A year on, it is nearly unusable & if you buy the phone on pay as you go, the companies don't want to give you a replacement phone. Contract is not so bad.

The phones out now have the new keys anyway so not to worry. Only other problem is bit at top doesn't always stay shut but it doesn't bother me & is usually good.

People who have written reviews so far have been far to negative as this phone is really good. It is easy to use, with a good camera, great Walkman, great battery life & loads of good applications. I was a bit disappointed when I realised the phone didn't have flash but the phone has a night effect which lightens it up anyway.

Everything is quick, fast & effective. The themes on it are pretty cool too :).

I have had this phone for about 2 to 3 months. On my keypad my number 4 has cracked & I don't even text that much. I was really excited about this phone 2 to 3 months ago & now I am really excited to get rid of it. Unfortunately I am on a contract & now have to wait until April 2010 until I get upgraded a different phone.

My friend got the Sony Ericsson W850i around the same time I got my new W580i & she hasn't had any problems with her phone but the only thing with hers is that it is like a brick & not as slim as the W580i. So I would recommend the W850i to people that like texting & do it quite often & don't mind carrying round a brick. Also, the W850i has some new stuff on it that the W580i doesn't have on it like, Voice Call which is really good. Also, when she plays her music on hers the Orange light on the front flashes to the beat of the music which I think is really good where as the W580i is meant to be the proper Walkman phone & it doesn't even have things like that standard.

I have to say this is the worst phone I have had so far. For my first phone I had a Nokia Orange thing that had a horrible appearance but was a standard good phone for my first. Then I got a NEC E122 which was good then I had a Motorola RZR V3i & then I got the Sony Ericsson W580i & I have to say that I think I would have preferred to have the Motorola RZR V3i.

I hope this helps you. Selena x.

I have had the keypad on the W580i replaced twice & my network provider will not give me another phone, saying it has to be repaired 3 times & on the fourth breakage of keys the phone will be replaced then. I had this phone a week & noticed all the cracks on the screen & the phone would switch on & off when it wanted & would say inactive SIM a lot.

THEN, they gave me a new phone & the same issues were there! Here's the problem.

90% of the screen cracks do not exist, it's only when people choose the Strobe Theme from the menu, this makes it look like the screen has pressure cracks. Choose a different theme & the cracks disappear.

The reason the phone switches off a lot or says inactive SIM is because the SIM needs to be pushed in with another SIM card or similar type object till it clicks in. Too many people just push it in & then insert the battery assuming that this will push the SIM in far enough, not the case.

While this will indeed be enough for a day or so, it will eventually just say inactive SIM or shut down.

Love the phone, it even plays low res MP4s which you can watch in landscape mode.

There are some nice cases about that will protect the phone. I feel you need one of the good expensive tight leather ones as the phone needs to be protected as it would break very easy from the feel of it.

One handed use is very easy as is one thumb texting.

I'd say buy one as the price is good right now for these phones.

What I do is put all my main devices (Bluetooth camera etc.) on the shortcut so I only have to press a random button to go on my favourite things. My keys haven't cracked at all but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that texts loads because then they probably would crack, but if you don't text that much it is very good, stylish phone & personally I think the phone deserves an overall score 9.5 out of 10! When this phone first came out & I was looking to switch from Telus to Rogers, I saw this phone at some random place in the mall, they had a demo. I played around with it for a while & instantly fell in love, I haven't been able to find a phone that I've ever loved as much as this one.

But then 2 months later, came all of the problems, I am not a big text message person, I don't text a lot & when my keys started to crack, I got very annoyed. So I sent it back & was without a phone for 6 weeks, it was awful.

Then they sent it back to me & after a few months of using it, the keys had cracked so bad that I had to put tape over them to keep the keys on the pad, I wasn't very happy so I called Rogers & demanded them to send me a phone which they did.

Now, I have my current phone & it's got major problems. The OK key doesn't work, therefore it's inconvenient. My keys have cracked majorly & it freezes. Oh & the battery shuts down half the time, I am at work & my phone dies & I just charged it the whole night.

Yes, there are great features on this phone, I adore it. I've never been able to find a phone that I will love as much as this one, but the problems keep coming back & it's a pain to deal with it every time. Why can't they make this phone way more durable? They're customers would be a lot happier.

I called Sony Ericsson today to talk to some guy about them sending me a new phone & he said that this phone was supposed to be tested more before it was sent out to carriers because 80% of people who have this phone, call within the first 6 months complaining of problems.

I am not sure if I'd recommend the phone just because of all the heartache. But the phone is so wonderful, I am so in love, I just wish it was a better working phone!

Do not buy this phone! It's the worst I have ever had!

It's so poorly made & feels very flimsy & cheap, the music features are about the only good points I found! I had mine for about a week & I noticed the buttons cracking, I took it back & they replaced it with a new one, this happened a further 5 times & I'd had enough, they wouldn't give me a different phone so I ended up paying £140 for a pay as you go phone even though I had 9 months left on my contract, I know a few people who have had exactly the same problem! Stay away! You will be disappointed! By the way, the camera is very poor, there is no flash or light & the zoom is rubbish!

Don't say you haven't been warned!

Bought last September (2007) fantastic phone which got much attention, after 2 to 3 months buttons cracked & camera stopped working, after being fixed has kept going until now with no sign of cracking on the buttons & still working as well as the day I bought it fantastic phone with great features & the best 2MP camera I have ever come across! Ignore comments on cracking buttons after being fixed, this issue has obviously been resolved as mine has lasted months with very heavy texting usage, fantastic phone!

However the day of my party I dropped it by accident & the back of my phone broke off, so we sent it off & it took two weeks to come back! When I got it back it was all fixed & I love it now.

I highly recommend this phone although you should get free music seeing as it's a Walkman phone.

By the way trading standards state when a phone is replaced it must be of good quality, I stated this to Orange who have now agreed to replace with a brand new one, not some dodgy repaired phone, not got new one yet, fingers crossed with this model.

I am getting this phone tomorrow from Vodafone. Seems great, especially the shake control & fitness program. OK, the keys may be a tad too small for chubby fingers, but hey, I don't have them so what do I care about? Pressing too hard with chubby fingers may be the cause of keys cracking, & careless use. Vodafone offers a one year warranty on all their products, which is also good. I absolutely cannot WAIT to get my hands on this phone! It has a lot of features & is GREAT value for money (£81 on Vodafone website).

When I first got the phone I loved it, was easy to use & looked great, was also very cheap.

After a few days however most of the buttons had cracked in half, they still worked though so I wasn't that bothered.

A couple of months later the cover was very scratched & not fixed on properly, then the screen broke & just went completely black. I managed to get it fixed by Orange for free but it only took another month before it happened again.

The screens now completely blank & I am not going to bother getting it fixed again. I am very clumsy so that probably didn't help but I know people with this phone that have done the same.

I wouldn't recommend this phone.

Texting is a bore though as I find myself going slowly to be gentle with the keypad for fear of it breaking.

The only problem I have had with it is that the keys cracked once, but to be fair my friend did it whilst texting & must have pressed them a little too hard, but if your careful with them their fine!

The camera is good, easy & quick but there is no flash which is slightly disappointing.

It is thin & very easy to hold. Good battery life & I can go up to a week without charging it using music player every day.

This phone is awful, the worst phone I have EVER had! I got it in November last year & by December the problems started. The phone kept switching itself off so I sent it back to get it fixed & was without a phone for nearly 2weeks. Then by January the buttons started to play up & they cracked. Sometimes the buttons worked other times they didn't, then some just stopped working altogether. Again it went away to get fixed & again I was without a phone! I had it back a matter of days & some of the buttons stopped working AGAIN! The screen started to freeze & became loose! To top it all off the slide started sticking & the camera stopped working not exactly what I paid for!

Not a reliable phone AT ALL, good features if the phone works long enough for you to use them but mine rarely did. Battery life isn't good either. My advice is to stay clear & spend your money on a phone that works longer than a few months!

Oh & to Chloe, yes you can set a song for the message tone.

All of my buttons are cracked apart from 3! The lights have stopped working, then the left hand side back button & up & right arrow keys do not work.

When I am talking to someone on the phone it will just automatically cut off & start beeping erratically!

But when my dad came back from getting it fixed he said they had to fix some cracked keys as well which I hadn't even noticed. Today I dropped my bag & the phone was in it so half the screen is black & has a crack in it. I have dropped it a few times before & the cover comes off so easily it's a rubbish design to be honest! The paint also peels off near the camera which makes it look worse. The features are all good though apart from the camera which doesn't have a flash so no good when it's a bit dark. Apart from these, no other problems but I would say buy a sturdier phone other than this because it's bound to go wrong. The ergonomics of this phone is appalling. I paid £128 from Tesco though I got £25 off as I signed up for there SIM card.

On using the phone from the outset I found that my fingers kept pressing the music store button which is situated just below the call button, thereby causing a problem when phoning or accessing certain menus. I do not have big hands so how can somebody who has gets along with it is beyond me. The absolute worst thing is the charging method. You push the adapter into the side of the phone were two little prongs make a connection with a serrated brass strip. It works fine for a couple of weeks & then due to something which is beyond me the connections cease & you cannot charge your phone unless you constantly waggle the connector. I went to the expense of buying a car adapter to see if I could charge it that way using a newer fitment. Alas the same thing but even worse as I cannot use the thing at all, wasting me further money. I cleaned the serrated strip but to no avail. I now have a phone which is useless to me & nearly new. Unfortunately I have lost the purchase receipt so cannot exchange it. So all the hype for this phone is a lie as using it is a pain. Furthermore it sometimes rings the last call again when it is in your pocket if you have not made sure the phone is locked when you put it in there.

Therefore as you will tell I am not impressed & will go for a Nokia next time.

The first day I had this phone 2 of the keys cracked, I did not notice & thought it was the shape of the keys until I looked closer & realised they were cracked.

After the phone then kept freezing & turning itself off I took it back.

Considering I paid £150 for the phone when it first came out the following week when I took it back it had gone down to £99.99. Says Enough Really doesn't it.

The phone was replaced but after a few weeks all but 1 of the keys cracked.

The phone would often not read my memory card either & would often fail when I tried to play music.

The LCD liquid also leaked into the screen which was then a £45 repair.

I finally replaced the phone with a Samsung (which I have no complaints or disappointments with) I replaced the phones as the main OK button would no longer work & would often have to turn the phone off & on again to get back to the main menu as the return button also broke.

The Piece of metal by the camera (mine was blue) also had a habit of falling off in my bag leaving wires hanging out the back of my phone.

I also found the SIM card hard to remove as the place for it was inside the phone & often had to get a pair of tweezers to pull the SIM card out.

I was not impressed with this phone & would not recommend it to my worst enemy! I would not recommend a Sony Ericsson to anybody as everyone I know who has had one has nothing but complaints about them!

The phone as a whole is good I think, although I haven't had it a week & I am asking for my contract to be cancelled. I am a person that is on the go a lot.

The BATTERY ON THIS PHONE IS AWFUL. I have had it 3 days & I have had to charge it every night. I can't cope with charging a phone every night as some nights I may just want to go out without having to take my charger with me, isn't that what having a phone should be like?

The texting is a bit slow but I love all the features I just wish that the battery lasted longer than 8 hours. I don't have Bluetooth turned on & I haven't used the Walkman. Don't know how long it would last if I played music through it.

If you want a phone that lasts more than a day with battery, DO NOT BUY IT. Apart from that the features & the slide design are very nice.

Both phones are being repaired at the moment under warranty. But they cannot be repaired immediately as the repair firm cannot get enough parts for the 580i as there is such a demand for the faulty phones to be repaired.

I got this phone a few months back, & at first I thought I was a really good phone, the look of it attracted a lot of attention from friends & family. Also the features were extremely good, the camera was excellent for a 2 mega pixel, the music sound good from the speaker, it was easy to text & the games were good. It also had quirky features like the shake music changer & the fitness application. All of this suited me perfectly but after 2 weeks it wouldn't turn on. I got it fixed & it was fine, but now all the buttons are cracked the space button when I am texting doesn't work properly & my speaker decides when it wants to work. I wouldn't advise getting this phone if you've got an active lifestyle & tent to drop your phone, or put in your bag where it can get knocked.

We bought this phone as a birthday present back in November & have had nothing but hassle with it. Firstly the keys started to crack. I was told by Orange & Sony Ericsson that this was a known fault. We sent the phone back for repair however it was not repaired as the microphone was loose & the lights play up when they feel like it. We sent it back again only to receive that was not fixed so we sent it back for a third time. This time they sent us a refurbished phone only it was scratched & damaged. I am now on my second refurbished phone & guess what. It's damaged! My advice, never buy the w580i it is more hassle then it is worth.

Can't wait to get it, Sony Ericsson still amaze me.

At first when I seen this phone I wanted it straight away & then bought it a few weeks later, I now have it since the start of May. I no longer like the phone because my buttons have started to split up the middle of them & it keeps doing such random things, its a slow phone also, find myself finished texting & it is still going on.

To be honest I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, I am going to change my phone now soon, definitely disappointed in the result of how the phone has turned out.

Very popular & cute design, love the product range itself but the quality just isn't there against my better judgement bought one, yes the buttons cracked & it's just a bit plastic!

Love the slide but it is hard to slide the phone one handed & so I found you put a lot of pressure on the screen instead.

Good features but is disposable at the end of the day.

Try the w910i, sturdier design with better screen clarity but modelled on the same everything as the w580i just a higher degree of quality. Bring back the 3210 bet an original would still work today!

I got this phone for Christmas in pink & I absolutely loved it at first. The design is great & the sound quality is really clear. The camera is also pretty good as well. Then after 6 weeks after Christmas, the phone went off completely even though it had full battery, & charging it wouldn't help. I then sent it off, but was pretty annoyed as it took 6 weeks to return.

I got it back at last & it was OK for a couple of weeks, but then I noticed that 4 of my buttons had cracked which really annoyed me, secondly, the phone started saying that I had no memory card in the phone when it did so I couldn't listen to my music or anything. & last but not least, my phone doesn't lock itself anymore.

I want to get the Sony Ericsson w910i in replacement instead of the w580i as it is (RUBBISH) So I hope Orange will let me do that.

It is a good phone but very poorly built.

OK I have this phone & it works & it has really good features, you can play music on it whilst texting people or look at your pictures or Bluetoothing. At first it was on T2 typing but if you go to tips on the settings menu it tells you how to text normally USB if fabulous & the memory is HUGE. It is easy to navigate despite first impressions, even my Grandma with bad arthritis can use it & has only used it about 3 times, & believe me that's saying something. But I am sick of it now. It is a really great phone & downloads for it are far from rare but unlike most of my things I am bored silly of it. The features are great but they are too easy to find & after a while they get MEGA boring. In the UK you have to buy games for it (I do) & in the US there's a guy on YouTube who got Sims 2 & cooking mama with his COMPLETELY FREE, also they don't sell the new version of the menu in the UK so there are tons of cool tricks I can't do on it.

Basically if you want a stylish long term phone as far as I am concerned get this one, but if not it's a big NO NO unless on a contract. HAPPY PHONE SHOPPING. I am too from Carrie.

I don't know why people complain so much! Yes, there have been problems with the phones buttons cracking BUT this has been corrected by Sony Ericsson.

I have had mine for around 6 months now & I don't find anything wrong with it (apart from not being able to zoom in on the camera but it isn't exactly the end of the world, no phone is going to be perfect). It has a personal trainer built in which is a bonus. The games are good & good graphics. I love the flashing colours on the side now what other phone do you know that does that? the design is great it's easy to slide up.

If someone wants the phone & they read this (just like I did before I got mine) there going to be put off & for what?

IT'S A GOOD PHONE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Don't BE PUT OF BY the BAD REVIEWS.

Overall I think this is a good phone. I would recommend it & it a good price for a good phone.

I have had this phone since November 2007 & I have been very disappointed with the results. When this phone first came out, it looked & sounded very appealing. But after a couple of weeks problems started to occur, the keys started to crack & it started to freeze & lose most of my songs & photos. When we took it back to the shop were we purchased it from they questioned the problem & sent it off to the repair centre. After 5 weeks the phone still hadn't been returned. When the phone finally came back the same problem happened again, overall the phone had been sent away 4 times. I am very disappointed & think that all these phones should be recalled until all customers are happy with the new results. This phone shouldn't have been allowed to be sold in a shop when Sony Ericsson knew for a fine fact there was a problem.

There is no application running. I checked everything. I looked into it & a lot of people had this problem. Supposedly, its software problem & I am probably going to lose all my photos. This made me very mad.

Also, recently when I try to call someone, I can only hear on speakerphone. I can't hear anything when the speakerphone is off, but when it is on I can hear the person talking.

I absolutely adore the phone, & have loved it since getting it about five months ago. The only flaw I could discern straight away was the fact that there was no cam flash. A pain but no hassle, as I primarily use my phone as (surprise surprise) a phone (use the flash as a torch as I am a night shift worker.)

However, I now have on my hands a phone that has no 5 key (consider how much of a pain this is avoiding sending texts with no J K or L or inputting phone numbers) & on occasion cuts out mid phone call. & by cut out I don't mean hang up. It just loses all sound on MY end & keeps charging me for the call. It's got a slight lag, especially when going through the text inbox or using the Internet. I have very little of the memory used, maybe 30 songs, a couple of pictures. So it shouldn't be that.

Disappointed, all up, as aesthetically the phone is a hit with me (especially love the blue backing on the slide & the colourful LED's in the sides.)

I have had this phone since September 2007. It is the best phone I have ever had, however earlier this month the buttons stopped working. I took it in to my local Orange shop & they have sent it off for repair free, due to a manufacturer fault. Anyone who has had problems with the buttons are entitled to a free repair. If they charge you, you are being ripped off. Other than the issue with the buttons, this phone is amazing with a fantastic memory & Walkman player. I would recommend buying one now that the issue with the buttons has been resolved.

I loved everything about the phone, it's probably the nicest phone I have had & you couldn't knock anything about it. I had it about a month & things already started to go wrong, I got it at Christmas & by may it was completely broke.

The outer speaker stopped working after about 3 month, I could hear people on the phone, but could turn on speaker, I couldn't listen to my music, only if I had headphones in, & couldn't hear anybody ringing. I could only tell by the vibrations. Then the keys started to break, so I couldn't text anyone because half the keys were cracked so my messages were jumbles. The main middle button was also broke, so I couldn't use the down button I had to press up to get to the things I wanted. Then the back fell off, & every time I needed the sim card & battery it would take me at least 20 minutes to get it on properly & it still wasn't perfect. & when I thought things couldn't get any worse, it completely broke, when I tried to turn it on it wouldn't. So I tried everything I could, one option was to plug the charger into it just to get it to turn on, then when it did the main screen would come up & then go blank & turn off.

Overall I did love the phone while it was working, but I treated it with lots of care & still it broke. I advise anyone thinking of getting this phone to try a different model by Sony Ericsson.

This model was certainly a complete waste of my money & I was extremely disappointed with it. It has made my view of phones completely different & I will certainly look into it more before I buy another one, because if I bought a phone that ended up like this one, I wouldn't buy a phone ever again.

It is certainly not fit for a queen, it's more fit for a pack of dogs because the state it's in now, would be the result after they had it. I am very disappointed & I hope Sony Ericsson builds better phones in the future!

I bought this phone for my birthday in October I bought it brand new, everything was working fine. I thought it was an excellent phone for me. After a few months I got used to the phone. Then the problems started.

- Cracked number buttons.
- Back button not working.
- Sometimes it would freeze.
- the left hand light (on side) stopped working.

Every time I needed to use the back button I had to turn the phone on & then back on again, which was very annoying.

However. The camera & Walkman are fabulous. I would recommend people who want this phone to start looking at other ones. This is not the phone everybody is impressed with at all. Personally, I think the phone is NOT WORTH the MONEY!

Now it's not sending or receiving messages on the weekends so it can't send them & doesn't actually receive them until about 6pm on Sunday so it's not good for arranging things.

Sunday 15th June 2008 the screen went blank. Yup, blank, black, no light, no nothing. Just over 24 hrs & kaput, tears everywhere. Virgin told me it's a software nightmare of a phone. So why deal in it. E-mail to Virgin with that very question then checked forums. Oh dear.

So to those who have had no problems, your very lucky. To you who said you were aware & were STILL going to get one, hey come to Solihull & you can have ours. It's brand new after all!

So lucky for us we can cancel contract within 28 days as there is no way this phone is EVER getting into our house again. I expect they'll agree to give me a Nokia (not cool but best built phones ever) instead & I am OK with that but daughter won't be.

Manufacturers have had the phone longer than I have due to repairs. They say that if the phone has been in 3 times with same problem they will replace the handset. Very good however they send you the same one back so same problem again!

My opinion, the handset should be recalled by Sony Ericsson & people with this phone should be issued with a different handset that actually works but that's too sensible obviously.

I had to change contracts early, as noon had any sensible advice to give me. Honestly I would not recommend this phone to anyone! Total waste of money.

I decided to get this phone when I started my new contract as I was told it was a fantastic phone. I really did like it, was lovely to use as well as being nice & lightweight.

However, I only had it for a few months when it started erasing my media so when my phone rang, I wouldn't think it was mine as Disturbed were shouting out at me. I would have to reboot my phone for the media to return! After a month of doing this, the switch on button started to fail so it would take me AGES to even turn the damn thing on! To top it all, most of the keys snapped! I was sent a replacement phone but the same happened to that one after a month! I was then sent the Sony Ericsson W910i, not happy with that one either, keeps turning itself off & not allowing to turn it back on & the sliding part jams!

I am now getting a Samsung U600, I hope it's better! I've had 2 Samsungs phone & loved them both!

Hi ya, I originally brought my handset straight from O2 shop in August 2007, great for a few months then November 2007 back button stopped working had to keep turning phone off to get out of anything. So took back to shop for repair, no loan phone (annoying as I had paid 129.00! ) waited 2 WEEKS was then given a new handset, which to be quite honest looked to me like a refurbished as had no box, no plastic on screen etc. Also lost downloaded games, no refund for those either. Lost texts from original handset, (as well I have all other stuff, I.e. Pictures, music on my PC as well as phone) Replacement handset fine until last month, I noticed I had a dreaded cracked key. Went to O2 & they said they could repair & replace key but I would have to PAY for it!? Absurd. I am still under warranty from the original handset never mind this one! Plus the hassle of losing stuff on my phone again (as they said it would be wiped) I can't see it worth it. I am absolutely gutted. Loved the phone & its features, could do with a bit more internal memory though or a bigger memory card given on purchase as I am forever having to delete & replace music, shake & shuffle a bit rubbish, handset also gets very hot on calls, & phone goes slow on text input sometimes & slow scrolling through texts, & is a nightmare inserting & removing SIM card as well as the back cover of the phone! I just wish I had read forums before I brought as I definitely would NOT have purchased this model. Shame as I love Sony Ericsson phones but this gets a BIG thumbs DOWN! Laughable as they know the problems with the keys & they are still selling it at still quite a ridiculous price! I buy mobiles to last & when I pay over a hundred quid I expect more than a year's usage. PS PLEASE TAKE NOTE SINCE READING WAS OF FORUMS ON THIS MODEL I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT the PHONE SHOULD BE LEFT OPEN (SLIDE UP) WHEN ON CHARGE. THIS APPARENTLY STOPS the KEYS CRACKING AS IT'S the HEAT WHEN ITS CHARGING THAT CRACKS the KEYS WHEN IT'S CLOSED. I ALWAYS HAVE MY PHONE OPEN ON CHARGE & AROUND the HOUSE WHEN I CAN & I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER KEYS CRACK. YET, TRY IT YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE & POSSIBLY A BIT MORE LIFE OUT OF YOUR HANDSET TO GAIN. HOPE THIS HAS HELPED EVERYONE. GOOD LUCK BUT I am ON eBay NOW LOOKING FOR MY REPLACEMENT & HEY I JUST MIGHT SWOP TO SAMSUNG! SHAME ON YOU Sony Ericsson!

I have just taken mine back for the third time due to key fault again the shop told me that they would send it back to Sony Ericsson & as it has happened 3 times they will send me a new phone so then I asked the shop how do you know the new one won't break they said that they have changed manufacturer so therefore so phones shouldn't break where as other may do.

I have had this phone for a month but there's so much wrong with it! Because I have got the pink colour which has wore off, the battery dies quick, but yesterday after a day being in my bag my phone decided that the middle silver forward backward & play buttons did not work everything I went on it just went onto create message. Weird huh? & guess what this morning it worked perfectly fine? Seriously strange I would really like to know why this happened.

I am now wondering should I get it fixed even though buttons are functioning OK now?

I brought this phone in January on an 18 month contract & have regretted it ever since. Since I brought the phone it has been replaced 3 times & been sent to repair countless amount of times. Each time the phone has been sent off I have been phoneless for about 2 weeks a time, which is disappointing as I have had more time without the phone than I have with.

After the first 2 weeks my phone slowly started to fail & has now completely gone. My contract provider will not provide me with a different phone unless I pay quite a large fee. So unfortunately contract gets renewed =[.

My advice, NO WAY, DO NOT GET!

I had this phone & it was great at first! Then the buttons started rocking & starting to fall out. The slide up kept on getting stuck & I was unable to slide it up. It keeps saying people have been ringing me but they haven't.

My memory card is always getting stuck & it looks like I have hacked away at the memory card with a knife, when all I did was open it & it got stuck in there when I was out for a meal. ALSO I PUT ONE SONG ON IT & IT'S GONE WITHIN 10 MINUTES. So I have NOTHING on my phone what so ever. No songs, pictures or themes. It doesn't even save my messages. Very rarely it does!

It is rather annoying because I had pictures on my phone that I will never get back again. All my holiday pictures have gone! I HAVEN'T dropped it ONCE, & there is lots of marks all over it. On the back where the bright pink is near the camera, all the paint is wearing off.

The camera never stays clean, & I keep getting lines over my pictures. The phone has too much fancy stuff on it. I think they should of made the phone more decent than adding all stuff that it doesn't really need.

Overall I thought it is a very poor phone. VERY GOOD when I FIRST GOT IT. Now it's just gone completely poor quality.

This phone is a very good one, & I am glad I chose this phone.

The pros.
- A really good music player.
- Excellent camera.
- Great features.
- Stylish look.
- Nice themes.
- A built in fitness thingy which is really cool.

The cons.
- No flash on camera but only night mode.
- I can't think of any more.

HOWEVER, I have found that whenever I do something that includes a lot of movement the screen completely blanks. It goes black but you can still use features, which is a little creepy. I could still use my camera & it made the shutter noise but it was still blank. I also called people on speed dial & it worked & everything. This happened when I went on a scary, very fast ride & my phone was in my pocket getting battered from the ride.

I have also got a cracked number 7 key button. It has split in half. The left side button at the top has also gone loose but I don't see this as a problem as it just slips back in but is annoying because it is extremely loose.

OVERALL, this is a really good phone worth getting, I chuck mine about all of the time & it still works well. Buy this phone! Ignore bad comments because I haven't had many problems with it!

P.S. Advice, if your screen blacks out turn the phone off & completely leave it alone for about 24 to 36 hours & then turn it back on & it should work.

Complete pants! Have had it about 6 months now & wish I hadn't wasted my money! Have always had Nokia but had heard good things about Sony so decided to give them a go! How wrong I was! Have to say that I haven't had the breaking keys problem, but have had my fair share of others!

Within the first month & a half every time I slid my phone down to shut it, it turned itself off! Really handy as you can imagine! LOL. Then my back button decided to stop working! So every time I need to go back to the main screen I have to press the shortcut button & either press to go back or access the Internet then cancel it! Then the speaker went, so my phone is only usable by those with super human hearing! Now after all these months it has just decided to constantly show me the Phone Status page!

So as you can imagine my phone is pretty unusable! I haven't taken it back to O2 because they just say that it is a manufacturing problem! Will definitely be going back to get something better but Sony will definitely not be getting my money again anytime soon!

Because I am on contract I am able to be given a new phone every time it breaks but I would definitely not recommend this phone. I have had 4 different phones in the past 2 months (same model of course. The first problem was caused when the microphone didn't work, then the next several times it kept saying to insert my SIM card even though my SIM works perfectly fine in another phone. I know several friends who have this phone & not one of them have not had a problem with the model. As you can see from my grading, the phone has brilliant features & well thought out programming & layout & it looks great!

HOWEVER, in my life of having mobile phones I have never had one which is so useless. A phone may look great & have great features but those features are useless if you cannot use the phone!

For me the numeric buttons did not crack for 8 weeks, but the Select & Back buttons stopped working! I have had 2 new phones & both have had the exact same issues.

I got this phone last October upgraded on my contract, I foolishly changed my Nokia last contract for a pebble, I thought that was bad enough till I had the misfortune to upgrade to the Sony W580i. I am now on my FOURTH handset, everyone I have had when you hit the calls button to go on to your call list it will bring up your calls but when you try to ring someone the green arrow will come up calling, you then think to yourself this is taking a long time to connect when you check the screen it has jumped back to the call list & never connected to your number. The only way to get it to connect was to hit the screen hard, consequently I have now cracked two screens. Every time you slide it up the Walkman turns itself on, my buttons have cracked (looks like everyone else's have as well). I don't know anyone with one of these phones who hasn't had a problem. I have lost all my downloaded games 3 times through having replacement phones so my games have cost me three times the price, I refused to download anymore & guess what? the handset I have been given on Friday is also refusing to connect to my call list, this one is going back Orange have offered me an alternative handset now but the upset & inconvenience this has caused is unreal (waiting for couriers, ordering phones, trying to save data etc). I am now going to a W660i any comments anyone? I will NEVER have a slide phone again, I will stick to a phone that's just a phone in future, too much software makes too many problems I think. P.S I have just tried to transfer my photos to my P.C it will only copy 11 out of 43 on my memory card saying it cannot open or read the others, so it looks like all those memories are lost. Well done Sony Ericsson you have created a lasting impression on me, I am going back to Nokia on contract day & staying there. ONLY BUY ONE IF YOU WANT TO GIVE YOURSELF A STROKE!

I had looked for this phone for months before finally being able to renew my contract & get the phone real cheap. I got the phone I wanted. The first day it was cool then the phone had lots of applications on it that you need to pay several dollars a month to use. Then I was unable to put music on it. Turns out I need a memory card for it that is a certain card I believe mainly for Sony phones. This card is more than twice the price of normal cards I would use. Then the speaker blew out on it & started sounding rubbish & all my calls start messing up & crackling while talking to them. Then the right key on this thing broke & fell out. Then to top it all, the phone fell out of my lap as I got out of my car & I stepped on it. This is where this all becomes my fault. The phone screen quit working after this. Not broken or cracked just not working. I have dropped so many phones in my day & that usually does nothing. The water is the killer of most of my phones. So I have always carried insurance because I have broken all of my phones. So I went to get a new phone & they tell me that I do not have insurance on my phone. My wife has it but not me. How nice is that. Somehow they did not put it on my account this time. So must be my fault for not double checking everything. Now I must go buy a cheaper phone to replace my brand new phone, well it is a couple of months old.

Don't buy this phone it is cheap & breaks easily. Put your money on something better.

Had this phone a month & 2 weeks now & got it as a birthday present & decided to get it from Carphone Warehouse because I had read all the reviews & thought it would be easy to take back if something went wrong. Just before I decided on the phone I went into the shop & spoke to the man about the keys cracking & how I was a bit concerned & he assured me that on the black model the fault had been fixed.

He was wrong & the 4 & 7 keys have both broken. 4 have split in half & 7 has almost come off. Not happy & it's in for repair now. My advice would be if you don't want the hassle. Don't buy the phone.

However, the music player is good & camera is also good for a 2MP.

All in all, this phone is genius, the design is very attractive, particularly the lights on the side.

The buttons are easy to use & none of the features are particularly complicated to work out how to use. I got mine yesterday, haven't opened my manual once & I think I've pretty much worked my way around everything myself.

Although there are minimal downfalls I should point out. Whether or not this problem is just significant to my phone & nobody else's version of the model I don't know, but the messages in my inbox seem to be in a very strange order. Where usually they would automatically get categorised in to date order from newest down to oldest, they seem to just list themselves randomly with no structure. I cannot work out how to change the format of this, which I am sure you should be able to do (if anyone else had this problem & solved it, please let me know how? )

When writing texts the buttons also react quite slowly, if you are a speed texter like myself you may find it inconvenient when the keypad cannot keep up with you. Also the video camera quality is extremely poor. As you record it, it blurs, fuzzes, & moves extremely slowly making it difficult to capture swift movement. The playback is even worse as everything is completely distorted & is at times hard to work out exactly what is going on in the film.

However, the camera itself for still images, for a 2MP, is extremely good. My last two phones have been 3MP, & I cannot notice much of a difference, although I have yet to find out what the quality will be like once transferred on to my computer. Quite obviously, the sound quality of the music is AMAZING. The speakers sound amazing, the headphones sound amazing. Almost definitely the best feature of the entire phone.

I recommend this phone highly to anyone.

I got the W580i to replace a faulty Samsung U600 which totally packed up within 2 hours of me getting it home!

The guy in the T mobile shop told me no mobile phone is perfect! Yes the first batch of W580i had faulty keypads but Sony Ericsson have since improved the keypads.

I had been on this site & read all the bad things about it but still decided to give it a try, at the end of the day if it goes faulty I can take it back into T mobile & they will send it off for repair (just as they have done in the past with my old Nokia).

The W580i is brilliant, I have had the phone for just over 3 months now & I have not had a single problem with it.

I am a heavy texter so my keypad does get heavy use. I have not had any problems at all with cracking keys, keys falling out or keys that have just stop working.

The slide is perfect, the lights work, it does not switch its self on & off, there is not a mark on the phone & paint isn't wearing off anywhere, the phone is fabulous!

I have this phone on contract & look after my phone just like all the other things I work hard to own, my opinion is take no notice of the negative stuff on this site, bite the bullet & give it a go, I did & have not looked back since it's a brilliant little phone.

It is good in most things & I love the fitness feature but since I brought this phone I have had nothing but trouble with the keypad. I had had it for 30 days & only just realised that the star key did not work. It was not a key that I would normally use so I didn't realise. I took it back to Carphone Warehouse & they said that they could not just swap if for another one as it was over the 28 day limit. I sent it off to have it repaired & had to wait 4 weeks without a phone & then got it back & 2 to 3 weeks later, 3 of the numbers keys 4, 6 & 8 were all cracked in half. I think it is a good phone but the buttons & not good & puts a downer on the phone. I have to admit I read a review on this phone before I brought it & it said pros & cons & the only thing for cons were buttons & I thought, oh it will be OK, it won't break on me, but obviously, the buttons have been a nightmare.

Seeing as I got mine off the Internet & that it was clearance (meaning leftover stock) I thought my phone would break as well, but so far it hasn't. :D

As for usability, I gave 100% because, I have to admit, I have dropped my phone a few times, & so far I haven't got any scratches on my screen or any obvious marks.

I never regretted getting this phone, & my friends love it too & everything, so all's good.

Well I got this phone for my birthday from Phones 4 you & in 2 weeks I had to take it back, & now I am taking it back again, this is because of the keypads as well. They are very small & brake easily. Also if you take pictures, sometimes they won't show so you half to turn the phone on & off which is very annoying because if someone rings you your music might not be on so its embarrassing in front of your friends when Sony Ericsson ringtone comes on. I would advise anybody who is thinking of getting this phone to rethink as it is a waste of time!

What a load of RUBBISH! Two months old & everything has gone wrong on it, wish I had read all the reviews before buying it. I took it back to phones 4 you & they sent it off to be repaired but I then received a letter to say it was water damaged. Which is an absolute lie! Obviously so many things wrong with it they don't want to repair it. & on top of that they won't return the phone until I pay for the fact that the engineer has taken a look at the phone!

Here is just a few things that have gone wrong.

- Split keys (all of them).
- Memory card won't go in.
- Screen not working.
- Earpiece not working.
- Keeps freezing.
- Photos & music keep being deleted.
- Slow.
- Phone calls cut off.
- Memory card full (not! ).

The list goes on. The phones are still on the shelves & Sony have no intention of removing them. Something needs to be done about this surely it is against the law to sell something they are more than aware has so many faults. It's not exactly a cheap phone. My advice is DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! You will be left out of pocket for a piece of junk!

I bought this phone a couple of weeks ago, & I have one thing to say.

It is the BEST phone ever. I had read the reviews & started to feel unsure, but seeming as I had a 2 year warranty with Sony Ericsson I thought it would be OK. I bought the red version which only came out three days before I bought it.

About the keypads cracking, Sony Ericsson have fixed the problem, my friends had the same phone when it first came out & the keypads certainly feel more sturdy, if you don't feel sure, then just try texting with your thumb, its actually a lot quicker!

I would recommend this phone to anybody. Its a great buy.

Hope this helped.

Where to start. Had this phone since Christmas. Not a long time at all is it. The buttons have begun to crack, but so has everyone else's. A bigger problem to come.

All the top buttons (the Walkman button, the OK button, the left buttons & the right buttons) none of them work! You have to deeply press down onto the screen & press the buttons to actually make it 50% chance work.

The lights have completely gone out of the buttons & the side lights have gone as well.

The memory card slot is so hard to open. & the memory card always seems to come out of place. The back blue paint under the slide has all chipped & the back won't go on properly. Since I dropped it, ONCE.

Useless phone, my opinion is don't get it!

First few months I had this phone I thought everything would be perfect, nothing would go wrong! How WRONG was I. Total rubbish!

I've already wrote on this site saying how much I loved the phone. But I've got to say, it is the worst phone I've EVER had. I did have the grey but it got stolen & I was heartbroken. Then my mum & dad decided they would replace the phone. I got it in the white this time & wasn't over keen on the colour but decided to keep it. Anyway, I had this phone for another 3 months & four of the keys cracked 1, 3, 7 & the space button.

Also the big round button with the arrows & that. Then the space button stopped work altogether. When this happened I had every intention of sending the phone back on the insurance but decided I couldn't be bothered I just wanted a new phone because loads of my friends had the same thing happen to them & the insurance told them it couldn't be repaired. On the 3rd of May I went shopping with my mum because the night before I had seen the Samsung soul on the TV & when I looked it up on the Internet I thought it was amazing. I went into the Carphone Warehouse & asked about the phone. I had a play around on one & loved it. I got a really good deal in the end & even got a two GB memory card for nothing. I really don't recommend the 580 but the soul is brilliant!

As I read through all the reviews on this mobile phone, I am beginning to get angrier & angrier. I got this phone for Xmas by my partner & after 2 months the buttons cracked & my photos kept disappearing, & the key were very slow to respond, 20 seconds to be exact. I took it back to the shop & it got repaired, 2 months later keys cracked again, so off it went again to the shop bearing in mind the shop is half an hour away by train. Came back but 2 months later for a third time the buttons have cracked, & the back button snapped & screen has fallen down. The Orange shop won't issue me with another model of phone, I was offered £25 off a new model, so you know what they can do with that £25! All I want is a phone that works, I have never had problems with Sony phones before, this has made me think about changing network providers & also reverting back to the Nokia phone's, which I've had no problems with in the past. Very disappointing, DO NOT BUY!

I bought this phone in November & to be honest with you I have had very few problems. The screen goes dark from time to time (as in pressing the buttons don't make the screen appear) but thats happened with all the Sony Ericsson phones I have ever had & all I have to do to see the screen again is slide it up & down or just press the play key a few times. If worst comes to worst I turn it off & turn it on again & it is fine. Recently though, the battery life has gone down a bit, but this might also be because I listen to music a lot.

Regardless, I consider all the above to be minor issues & still think the phone is excellent. I think I was extremely fortunate in getting one that has not been blighted by the cracked keys fiasco or other serious problems & I got mine off eBay!

The Walkman is amazing, sound is amazing, & the camera is quite good too. Stll can't figure out how to zoom though.

I love it, but because it really is pot luck if you'll get one that functions as it should, I am not sure I would recommend it to others. I would not suggest you buy it on pay as you go as many people are still having problems with theirs.

I read all the reviews on this phone before getting it, & I must admit I almost didn't. Almost all the reviews talk about the buttons cracking & the phone freezing, but I have not had this problem yet. Touch wood. I spoke to the adviser in the O2 shop & asked about the buttons. I was told they have a new keypad which is more durable. This seems to be true. My phone is yet to freeze. Touch wood again LOL. The design is beautiful & I really like the coloured lights, which I had on my old phone & partly helped sell the w580i to me. Music quality is great & I absolutely love the fitness features built in. The phone is slightly slow to react when opening or texting but I soon got used to it & learnt to text a bit slower. After having the Z310i for over a year it was a welcome upgrade. To anyone considering this phone, but being put off by bad reviews, I suggest you give it a go. After all, the keypads have been made stronger & the phone is an amazing phone.

I am thinking about getting this phone for my birthday in pink. Two of my friends have the phone in grey & blue.

One of my friends has a crack on the 2 key but you can hardly see this so it won't be much of a problem to me. Also the same person has marks on the back where the slider rubs the paint off. Still, my other friend has no problems so I think it's just about how well you look after it.

Me & my best friend are really looking forward to getting this phone (she is getting it in white) & hope we have no problems.

One more thing, my friend says you can't change the lights for when you're just on the menu & you can only change them for callers. Is this true?

I got this phone in the new sleek red colour a few days ago so it isn't my full review (may review again in few months time). Compare to my last phone Siemens C65 which I been using over 3 years, this is a big improvement for me. It's a bit of a learning curve for me (button functions) since I so used to my old phone. I fully aware of the keypad problem but I assume since the red colour is the latest version, the keypad should hopefully be alright but I could be wrong. The keypad does look dodgy though.

My only problem that I got with the phone is that it seen the red version from Orange (got it from Orange shop) have remove the light option (to change the lights). I did read online it in menu, setting etc but it not there in the phone, nor the instrument booklet mention the light at all. This may seen minor but it really tick me off since the lights were one of the reason that I bought. If anyone from the UK also got the red version from Orange but got the light option, please let me know how to get or find it on the phone.

I bought the phone literally 5 days ago & the keys messed up which I was very surprised about now I have replaced it for another & by reading the reviews am worried that it will get messed up again. I really liked the features on it but I feel like hiding it under my pillow for long last use as the reviews are so negative about the phone, which may possibly be correct.

I am using Sony Ericsson for the first time as usually I buy Nokia or Samsung, which with Samsung I have had so many problems with, this pone may not have as much features as Samsung but is better! I have never had any problems with Nokia as the 7373 was perfect, I really do hope that the keys or memory card don't mess up.

More or less it's a good looking phone!

I bought this phone yesterday in the new sleek red colour so I not given it a full review, more like my first though after 24 hours I bought it (may give another review after a few months time).

Consider that my last phone was the Siemens C65 this phone is a great improvement to me since I have been using the c65 for over 3 years. It a bit of a learning curve for me to used since I so used to the buttons & function on the C65 (e.g. Return button was on the right but on the w5801 it on the left) but I will get used to it.

I fully aware of the keypad problem but I just guessing since the new red colour is the latest version, it hopefully shouldn't break. The keypad does look dodgy.

The two things that I found the phone annoying is there no clock when it on standby meaning I have to keep sliding it up which is annoying when on the move. The second & most annoying thing is that it seen with the Orange (got it from Orange) version of the phone, they remove the light effect feature on the phone (not the theme, I mean the option of changing the light). I did read that it in menu, setting & sound & alert there a light effect option but this is nowhere to be found at all in the phone & the instrument booklet didn't mention it at all. This really ticks me off because this was one of the reasons why I bought it. Anyone out there who lives in the UK & has got a red w580i from Orange do got the light effect, please let me know how to get or find it on the phone.

IT'S ME AGAIN!

I have already posted a comment before, back in December. Now, since then A LOT of things have changed with this phone, but then again they haven't. FOR instance, when I last wrote, I was on my SECOND keypad. I am now on my FOURTH!

When I had it fixed for the third time & finally got it back after waiting ANOTHER 2 weeks, the buttons wouldn't work (AGAIN! ) It turned out the actual buttons underneath the fancy keypad was broken & didn't work. So I had to send it off almost straight away after getting it back for repair. This was the FOURTH time it had been sent off!

Carphone Warehouse said to me that they had made a new HARDER keypad, so I was like 'Ooohh thats great' & it was sent off for the 4th time to get a full keypad & buttons repair!

At first, the keys did feel firmer & I finally thought that I could use my phone without worry of the buttons cracking again. But to my surprise & horror, 2 days later, they started cracking, ONCE AGAIN! Astonishing!

So, this time I was annoyed & angry, because I am fed up of this phone cracking & breaking. Letting so many people down, I don't KNOW WHY it's still on sale! Anyway, so we went BACK to the shop, & they said, 'there's no point in fixing it again, we will just give you a list of phones & handsets that you can swop it for as a replacement.' So they have. I have the option between 2 Sony Ericssons, 3 Samsungs or 1 Nokia. But after this experience with my first Sony Ericsson, I think I'll NOT go for one of them!

People, this is just annoying & a waste of money. Listen, within 7 full months & a bit, this phone's buttons have cracked 4 times, the actual keypad has broken once, the paint on the back is wearing off, the battery is terrible & charge it every night, the play button in the middle is losing its colour around the edge & my on & off switch has sunk it.

& now, I have three more problems on my phone.

- the memory is saying its full, when it's not because I deleted a WHOLE LOAD of files this morning.

- Whenever I am mid doing something on my phone, the phone will freeze for about 2 seconds, go back to main menu, lights will turn from red to green & it will start violently & rapidly flashing changing from menu to start screen. After this is then stops & just goes dead. To get it to start back up again, I have to wait about 10 minutes before I turn it on & it actually works, until the next time it does it.

- the back has come off. & it PHYSICALLY will NOT go back on!? It's so weird & irritating. Yes it was my fault for dropping it, (it fell out my pocket) but the back should surely go on. I have tried, my mates have tried, my family has tried, the shop staff have tried & it just won't go back on. So I am forever making sure that when I do use it, the back doesn't come off!

This is NOT a good phone!

PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT GET IT. It's just a waste of time. My mates got it after me, & ALL of them have had the same problems, (even problems with the Bluetooth & connection! )

DO NOT GET THIS PHONE. LISTEN TO the PEOPLE WHO ARE TELLING YOU FROM EXPERIENCE, NOT the PEOPLE WHO 'think it won't happen to their handset.' IT WILL, & YOU WILL BE ANGRY ABOUT IT, BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE WARNED YOU & TOLD YOU. DO NOT GET IT, WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. Don't follow the pretty design, FOLLOW the FACTS!

I bought this pink phone for my daughter in December 2007 when we got it home we found the back wouldn't come off (she wanted to put her contract sim in) so we took it back to Orange, they gave us another we had that 2 weeks & the buttons had cracked so back we went & got a third I was told if it went wrong again I could have a refund.

Guess what!

Yes you're right the phone went wrong after having it 32 days the buttons had cracked the number 1 button had fallen off & one of the bigger buttons at the top left of the phone was hanging on by a piece of thin plastic, I went back to Orange but they told me I couldn't have a refund as it was over the 28 days (yes by 4 days) they did offer to have it repaired but I refused as it was the third phone with faults.

So I got legal advice & put it in writing to the shop giving them 14 days to either refund my money or change it to another phone.

I heard nothing from them not a peep so I rang the Orange shop up & was told by the manager that it was being dealt with & we would be able to come to some agreement, did I hear anything NO, so I took advice again & put it in writing giving them 7 days or I would take it further, tick tock went the clock! I never heard a thing I rang the shop again & told the manager I wasn't happy & will be taking this further he then offered to send the phone away & she may get another phone but if I did it would only be the same as she has now which I didn't want or it may be repaired it depended upon what they said at the other end when they looked at the phone, I spoke to my daughter & she said she wanted a different phone, so I rang the manager back & told him no I don't want what you're offering, I will take it to court he told me that he would email the other end & see if she could have a different phone without the hassle of going to court, he rang me back today at about 5pm to say they had received & read the message but had not replied as yet & he would ring me tomorrow morning & keep me updated.

I don't want to take this to court but I will if I have to.

I hate this phone. I got it on contract with O2 in September 2007. Since then each month I have had to send the phone back to O2 for a replacement. I have had 4 replacements due to the buttons cracking & parts falling off, admittedly the 5th replacement was because I broke my phone. After escalating my complaint to a manager of O2 they agreed that I can either send the phone back via a shop to be repaired or I can have a replacement, w910i. I refused to go to the shop, it was bought online not through a shop plus I do not have time, so took the offer of the different model, which should arrive tomorrow. But after reading the reviews of the w910i I am not so sure I will be happy with that.

Overall the w580i rubbish phone, not only happened to me but my mate also.

For the first 39 days this was the best phone for my son. I had decided I looked it so good & worked so well that when my contract was up I would consider getting this one. Well that has changed now. The LCD behind the glass screen cracked on day 39 & since the Sony warranty is only for 30 days I am being told I can have them repair it for $175. They continue to say this is physical damage. The phone has not been dropped or physically abused. I am still in the process of trying to get to an escalation manager to get them to fix it. A friend of ours got the phone & within 10 days he had the same thing happen to him. I would not recommend this phone. It is expensive & the company doesn't appear to stand behind the problems with it.

I have had this phone for about 6 months now, & it has been unusable for about 4 of those months. The buttons have ALL cracked, & the phone seems to enjoy switching itself off whenever it pleases usually when I have to make an important phone call. The only way to get it back is to take out the battery & put it back in only to get a further two minutes use before doing the same thing again & receiving error messages on the screen saying sim card not inserted or similar, when the sim card hasn't been removed since I got the phone. I have reverted back to using an old Nokia till someone can get it sorted for me I am not going to settle for a replacement handset I want a different one all together. Sony Ericsson have always been really good for me & their phones are good for music which is the main reason I buy them but it seems that this phone likes to forget that my memory card is in the phone & therefore I can't play my music! & the slide becomes really stiff & gritty after a few weeks! Has anyone else had these problems apart from the buttons thing because I know everyone has dealt with that.

Bit of advice don't buy this phone it is a waste of money & time it looks good but it's not!

I think the cracking thing has already been resolved by Sony Ericsson, it's just a matter of taking care of it. I had this phone for 3 months now & I have no problem regarding the phone. It's the best phone I ever had. The picture is very good so as the music with mega bass it's pretty cool. The style is beautiful. Nice resolution. THUMBS UP!

This phone is great. Don't listen to the other reviews, I have had the phone for 7 months now, & I haven't had to send it back, the buttons don't crack, the colours on the side of the phone are working, & when I do something, it always responds in about 1 to 3 seconds. If you treat it carefully, it will have no scratches for up to a year.

The only problem is that if you use it for a day, constantly, for about 15 hours, it will run out of charge. Don't LET THIS PUT YOU OFF THOUGH! It will recharge fully in about 55 minutes.

Probably the best phone I have ever had.

I got this phone about a week ago & it's been great! It is sleek & fashionable! So obviously I think it looks good! People have asked me that if you have the phone in your pocket & you are playing music does it just automatically shuffle your songs & NO it doesn't you have to hold down the Walkman icon & shake it! IT'S immense! Another feature I love about this phone is the pedometer! You can set it so it tells you how many calories you have lost & how many steps & miles you have done in that day! The picture for the camera is REALLY good! I thought it wasn't going to be that good but it was!

Overall I think this is a great phone & I would recommend it to anyone!

This phone must be the worst Sony have made! Got this phone for my daughter for Xmas 2007, it has just been sent off to get fixed for the second time because the buttons keep cracking. The phone has turned into a chameleon also as it decided that it was going to have 2 colours at the same time Orange one side & green the other. Come on Sony your letting yourself down big time. Don't WASTE your MONEY ON the W580i.

I have the pink W580i & have only had the phone for 3 weeks, as a whole the phone is good. However, I have found a few problems with the fact that the phone freezes during games & has to be turned on & off again. The memory card pops out if I catch the top, & for some reason I cannot get the blue light to stay on. If I go on the music player the light will turn yellow. If I go back of it, it turns blue, but if I go back on the music player & off again the light stays yellow & the only way to change it is go back to themes & reset it. Is it just my phone or is it a design flaw.

Apart from those few things I cannot find anything else to fault it, I really like the shades of pink & overall I am happy with it.

The phone is a good looking phone but the buttons crack. I had to send it off after only a month of having it. When I finally got it back 3 weeks later all the buttons were fixed but the space button was really stiff & it doesn't work anymore. Also I had to send it off because one of my pictures came up in the back ground so I turned my phone off & it wouldn't turn back on or charge. I couldn't believe I had to wait 3 weeks & now it is playing up again. You should warm people about these phones before they buy them. These phones are RUBBISH so don't buy them or you might find yourself on here complaining as well!

Me & my friend have bid for this Sony Ericsson W580i phone on eBay & are very excited to hopefully receive it. Our friends have it & they haven't had any problems with sitting on their phones neither the buttons cracking. I think it should be fine as long as you take good care of it meaning not putting it in your back pocket when sitting down. I recommend this phone to anyone, it is slim, stylish & sleek. It has good features & great for using in a busy everyday life. You can view your emails on it, I think. Also people say that you can't zoom in on the camera unless it is on VGA but that isn't a problem really because a phone is for texting & calling people so if you wanted to take a picture of something, then surely you should just use your camera!

The Bluetooth downloads the songs really quickly, I think. You can also download games from a computer using a USB cable. It comes in a good variety of colours such as pink, grey & blue, black & Orange & white & Orange. It has video player & video recorder. It has GPRS, even though I don't know what that is.

Other than that, I think this is the best phone & I haven't had an experience of it cracking even though I haven't got it yet but hopefully I won't have any experience in my time of using it.

I hope this helps people choose if you want this phone because if I was you I would get it.

Only have had this phone for 4 months, & two buttons have cracked, left & right buttons have become loose, left buttons do not work, navigation buttons are not working & also having Bluetooth problems. If you really want this phone I advice you not to buy it but buy the S500i instead which is basically similar.

Where so I begin! This handset has been a problem since the beginning! Hence the low review percentages, I have lost patients with it all!

I first handed it in to get sorted because of the speaker being broken (making calls impossible), the keys being cracked, one of the navigation buttons coming lose & the memory card slot cover being broken, I had the phone only 3 months!

It came back & the speaker was still broken (CPWs fault not SEs) so away it went again. This time it came back & the speaker lasted all of 3 days!

It was time for a replacement handset (the fact that this took 3 weeks was again CPWs fault not SEs). This has now lasted 3 months & the screen has just broken as well as having some sort of software malfunction in which it switches off whenever it feels like it usually when your trying to use it!

Again I am getting a replacement but I am holding out to get a new model & not this one!

If your thinking of buying one, don't!

This phone is rubbish it keeps freezing (screen goes blank then nothing! ) only remedy is removing battery the back is nigh on impossible to remove with your bare hands. It looks OK features are fine for price but serious software flaw. I am leaving this feedback as 8 other people with same phone I know have same problem.

I have loved all my previous Sony Ericsson phones but this one has just been grief! Hopefully they will sort themselves out ASAP!

I got this phone in March, & it is a very good phone. Apart from in some areas, where if you are playing a song the screen will freeze & go black for a minute or so, but the buttons will still work.

Another thing I have just realised is, today my phone was in my pocket, & it was fine & I got a text so I took it out & looked at the text, & I realised that all my pictures, songs, videos, themes, etc, were all gone. It said that my memory card wasn't in properly & so I checked, & it was. So I switched it off then back on & after a couple of times all my pictures reappeared, but everything else hasn't, & I haven't dropped it or damaged it in any way that I know of. Can someone please get back to me on this?

I have just purchased a Sony Ericsson W580i & am so far extremely happy with the phone. It looks in my view stunning & the lighting effects are funky (especially in the dark! ) This is the latest W580i & therefore I have been informed that the key pad cracking has been fixed (fingers crossed! ). It feels solid enough & the features are great. Despite only owning my W580 for a few weeks I can only give it the highest of praise.

Loved this phone when I first got it but had it for 2 months & the buttons started cracking. Took it to the Carphone Warehouse & complained I asked for a new phone but they said they could only send it off for repairs. Got it back 2 weeks later & all they have done is put a new keypad in it. Had it back for about 2 weeks now, nothing cracked yet but I am waiting.

Another problem is where the phone slides it has scrapped all the coating off at the back but now it has moved away from the back so you can see the inside of the phone.

However the features are good, camera is good part from not having a flash & zoom it's great.

I just bought the phone today. I've had a fair trial with Motorola, & this was the only other available in store. My LG batteries always fail, & this was highly recommended.

Did I do the right thing?

The buttons seem fine, just need to be a bit more aware of what I am doing. But the reviews have got me worried, now.

I have had this phone since last August. It's been back to the Carphone Warehouse twice. Reading other peoples reviews I have the same problem. Keys cracked & also the first time as well as cracked keys the antenna had failed. I have stayed loyal to Sony Ericsson for my last three handsets but Sony get your act together. This handset clearly has some design issues & I wouldn't recommend anybody buying it unless you want a load of trouble. Many of your customers have the same problem with the cracked keys. My advice is to find an alternative to this handset.

I have this in white, & it's an absolutely gorgeous phone. It's very stylish & lightweight & I absolutely adore the lights on the side. I have had no problems at all with the buttons cracking or the phone freezing, & the Walkman plays music louder than my laptop does. The shake control is still quite fun to play with, & my friends all love the Track ID feature.

The only quibble I have is with the camera. No flash, & you can't use the zoom unless it's in VGA mode. However, it does take nice, clear pictures & if I want top quality photos I have a separate digital camera.

Overall, a good looking phone that has a lot of fun features & is really easy to use.

Very annoying. Buttons crack & you have to send phone off for 2 weeks to get it fixed. Also if you put your phone in your back pocket then this phone will annoy you as when you sit on it the phone will unlock itself & call somebody. This is because one of the phones shortcuts is previous calls & when it unlocks itself it will go into previous calls & ring somebody. Not good for credit.

However, if you don't put your phone in your back pocket & you are willing to send you phone away for 2 weeks a very good phone.
