I have had this phone for approx five years now & only this week has started playing up. Best phone I have ever owned. It's the right size for me but has buttons which aren't too small for bigger fingers! I find it relatively simple to navigate the menus & had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever until this week. It takes reasonable enough pictures for a phone, the slide to open has never loosened up or anything & I can transfers music & pictures etc to & from the phone via USB no problem at all. The biggest plus for me is it has a really loud ringtone (music), prior to this phone I always found Nokia's, Samsungs & Motorola's to be too quiet when knocking around my handbag. I am so sad that finally it's giving up on me. The screen starting flickering & then within 24hrs it goes completely white & I cannot see anything but it is coming back intermittently & I can still make & receive calls but shame I can't get another one of these :(.

I absolutely loved this phone when I first bought it, this was the first Sony Ericsson I had bought & used & I was amazed at the amount of features on this little phone. Alas after just 7 months, it looks aged, scruffy & is falling apart, all the keys are cracked & unstable, the paint is coming off the casing, I am hugely disappointed. Pay some more money & get a decent Sony.

Hi Guys I think this phone is nice to use. The colour of the phone is attractive but easily rubs off. I have been using this phone for the past 6 months now. I like the phone but the memory space is very small. The battery life is the best as compared to other phones.

It's a great phone for music lovers if you ask me. Well, I am one & so no doubt enjoyed using it until it got stolen a couple of days back.

It's a good bargain for the price (considering it's an Ericsson). The sound quality over the headphones & the speakers are N-Series phones like N72 with the clarity, volume & the punch!

The flashlight is real handy & the camera does the job that is expected of a 1.4MP cam.

On the downside however, the memory is not expandable. So it can be quite a constraint if you are a heavy duty music listener. The phone's a bit bulky but the swivel action is a killer feature! Battery backup wanes a little after a year of heavy usage. Calls are a bit noisy at the other end as the microphone seems to pick of lots of extraneous noises, espy when you are travelling.

Overall it a great phone that I enjoyed using for 15 months & really hate having had stolen.

Right, when I first got this phone it was not bad at all but then I saw the worse of it. It started to get be very mad. There were times that I wanted to throw it out the window! The keypad lock is very cheap not very good when I first saw the button on the side that you pull down to lock it, It made me laugh I thought it was just silly. Yes I do understand about the Internet & calling people on its own. Yes my phone just did the same thing I once put my phone in my pocket about 1 hour after I looked at it for texts & it took all my credit off me, I had £5 & I did not get one penny out of it that really made me mad.

On the good side I do like the design, features are not too bad. Usability not good at all for me the phone started to be very slow on loading up menu. I am never going back to this phone ever again.

Bought this phone Dec 2007 but had to send it back as it kept freezing, the new phone didn't work at all so refused another phone. Ongoing battle with Carphone Warehouse for a refund, watch this space.

Loved the phone was easy to use did exactly what it said on the tin just wish Sony would sort out the problem of their phones freezing as this seems really common with most of the phones. Don't know what to go for now. Any ideas?

P.S. Personally I wouldn't use the Carphone Warehouse for anything again, no customer service I have written to the complaints dept. Twice now & no response so I am now going through Consumer Direct.

I have had this phone for a few years now & even though I had a battery compartment problem at the beginning which I sorted out by putting a little piece of kitchen roll in the phone between the battery & the case I give it full marks. Battery life is brilliant & I have still got my original battery in use. Memory you can't add to granted but I have 350 pics on my phone & a lot of music files & still have memory space. A lot of good features including being able to see at the touch of a button how much memory is left & how much battery life & your own number etc. I have had a few new phones since getting this one but always end up going back to it before probably even giving the new phones a proper chance. For me though this phone does everything I need. Reason for writing this review now after having this phone so long is that my best friend got a new Nokia E65 a few days ago & even though he was assured this phone had good battery life it seems to be worse than his old Nokia. Thumbs down to Nokia I think!

The w550i was a stylish phone when it first came out, but compared to phones now a days you could say it is bulky; but nevertheless I still like it. Over all the features on the phone are very good I.e. good 1.3 megapix that takes good pictures, Walkman version 1.0 (still good) megabass.

A good phone & nice, loud & crisp music through both the speakers and the headphone (which needs a bit adjustment here & there while wearing for that mighty bass).Sony has once again shown that no one is ahead of it when it comes to audio. I have had it for more than 4 months & never saw the white screen or loose swivel though I used it carefully. Only thing I don't like is its screen size which is too small compared to Nokia's of same price tag. It doesn't matter whether it is 262k or 65k for it is unnoticeable on a small screen like this. Otherwise A1.

Great phone for people new to the phone market, gets annoying having to turn the phone 180 degrees to use the key pad, But almost all the functions can be used without opening, the only functions you have to open for is text & calling, Great music quality & looks good too, louder than all of my mates phones, but videos seem to get a green blur to them, memory could be expandable but apart from that a good phone!

Hey guys got this phone just 4 days back & m just loving it. I have Nokia 6270 & Fly SX210, but this w550i is a BOMB in terms of audio quality. Although all Sony Ericsson phones comes with megabass function but this phone also includes stereo widening effects & guys I tell you with mega bass & stereo widening this phone rocks like anything. The phone has 3 external speakers which gives out a very loud sound but I found this sound is not crystal clear. It seems that at the max volume the quality of the music suffers a bit. But anyway it's still acceptable to me. & when you listen the music through headphones. The music is excellent & satisfying. I mean it's loud & crystal clear. The music player is excellent I like the function of fast forwarding the song, my Nokia 6270 & fly sx210 lacks this function. Its has got a 1.3 MP camera which I found quiet OK. During daylight this phone takes pretty good pics. But at low light conditions pics are not acceptable although this camera has got a very powerful flash. The major problem with this phone is its non expandable memory. Because for me 256 MB is just not good enough. Since I bought this phone m struggling with the memory of the phone, anyways I knew this before buying. But just for the audio quality of this phone I sacrifice the idea of having big memory. Really very much impress with this phone. So guys if you are a music lover & likes to listen the song with high bass then just go for this phone. Another part I like the most of this phone is its build quality. I mean it seem very sturdy when you are holding this phone. Keypads are crisp to touch. Battery life is excellent & mind you the battery is lithium-polymer which is better than li-ion but it takes long time (about 2.5 hours from empty to full charge) to charge the battery unlike li-ions batteries. Hope my review will help you out to decide on this phone. Thanks.

When I got this phone I thought it was fantastic. Don't get me wrong this is a good phone, but it has crashed on me 3 times & it's very annoying. The screen goes white & you have to take it to get rebooted, which means you loose everything you had on it. This has happened every 5-6 months. I am now considering getting a different make phone. I like Sony's design & phone usage, but having the phone crashing on me is a definite no, no.

P.S. I don't like the key lock function, it is easy to unlock when you put it in your pocket or something & also, the phone calls people or goes on the Internet without me doing anything.

Have to be careful while rotating the key pad. Large screen. Bright photo light. Great phone A must buy phone. Memory can be a little problem, no memory card can be added. The jack knife has never come loose for me, & I have never had problems with the screen, storage or technical faults. Battery life is standard, features are very good. Ahead of it's time in that respect. The coded memo was particularly useful. The torch was very bright, which was useful.

I never really bothered with the earphones, & the Bluetooth takes a while, but that's fairly standard on all phones. The only problems with this phone were the software it came with, which you don't really have to use anyway, (just drag music into the music folder) & the fact that I often accidentally jolted the play button in my bag. This tended to happen at museums, because I am just lucky light that.

I would high-resolution, not an amazing camera, but good enough.

Oh. If it had had a memory card slot that would have been nice, but it's got plenty of memory anyway.

Got this phone 5 months ago. Stylish, good sound quality, nice equalizer, camera could have been better, but sometimes there is a problem with the network. Nice phone...

This is a very good phone, it has useful features. The walkman feature is very easy to use, you can easily play & select songs. I think that the twisting design is very good. The different coloured covers are a nice feature, but I'm not sure that you would change them that often. I like this phone, it has a good looking design & good useful features.

A lovely handset to own, & to my great pleasure when I met up with my m8's & they had their w800's out playing music I got out my cheaper w550i turned on an mp3 & watched the disappointment of everyone else become clear when they realised that my phone had an amazing speaker volume with no distortion, it blew them all away & it pisses on the w800 for internal speaker quality & volume.

And now the downfall!!!! This phone as nice as it is has a problem, you have to twist the handset to open the keypad, that's all very well but you can only go back the way you opened it. i.e. if you open it left to right you can only close it by going back in the other direction & if you forget which way you opened it & try to close it the wrong way you can end up like I did by accidentally detaching the mechanism which now mean my phone is in two parts with lots of wire looms hanging out. So if you do get one bare this in mind. That said it is a pleasure to use with few bugs.

I love this phone, it has great features & sounds great, but the only thing wrong with it is when I have to use the key pad I have to turn the top 180 degrees & it gets very annoying.

W550i is a Fab phone.. the music is worth speaking about, the only drawback is we need to open 180 degrees to use the dial pad... apart from this no complaints... its worth every penny.

Hi just to let you know that you can't zoom while taking a photo. You need to take the photo first & then you are able to zoom in up to 4x's. I have had my W550i since Nov 05 & I have found that it no longer holds its battery charge-anyone else had this problem? I have even bought a spare battery so I know its def the phone!

I've been a Nokia user for long but this phone is refreshing change, the phone looks good & has user friendly interface. Although it has inbuilt memory of 256mb with no expansion slot the space is quite good, the phone is worth its price. One cannot zoom pics in the large pic size u can only zoom 2x in medium & 4x in small pic size.pic size can be selected from settings in camera mode.

I bought this phone about 6 months ago & am really pleased with it. It's quirky & I find it quite easy to use. However, in all the time I've had it, I've not been able to use the zoom whilst actually in camera mode. A message saying "Zoom not possible in this mode" pops up when I try to use it. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to get round this problem or is it just something that doesn't work & I've just gotta get over it?! My friends who have the W700i & W800i models have tried to work it out for me as they have similar camera functions, but have been unsuccessful. If anyone could tell me what has to be done, that would be great. Otherwise fab phone & I have no other problems.

Well the thing is I haven't actually bought this phone yet, & I have been meaning to buy it. I have been doing lots of research on it to find out if it will benefit me or not. I love phones with media player on it & a Walkman, it's just so blazin right now. I really don't care about the memory expandable thing, as long as I can take pictures, send messages & receive them & calls then I'm KRISS!!!!!!This phone is great. Love QUEEN T x x x x x x x

The W550i is a fab phone to use. I love the swivel action opening which is really smooth & the best opening I have used. I got the W550i as soon as it hit the shops & was not available in many stores. I have one thing to warn other potential buyers about & that is that it doesn't come with a memory slot which I firstly thought it did come with. It doesn't cause me too many problems but I do have to download my video & photos regularly. A top buy & worth getting for the looks & usability alone.

I couldn't get on with the ear phones at all & not having a changeable memory card facility really became a pain. I gave the phone to my nephew after a month of having it & he is trilled with the fact that he has got a Walkman mobile phone, but it was not as good as I was expecting. Not totally given up on Sony Ericsson as I have a K750i which is a total success story.
