I bought the phone online through Carphone Warehouse as a Christmas present for my granddaughter. It has been used for less than six months & the badly designed flip has snapped off near the hinge. The plastic is so thin & flimsy!

The phone cost me £49.95, now Carphone Warehouse want me to pay £44.00 to repair it!

Four months after purchase, & despite very careful use, the flimsy plastic flap joint failed & they refuse to replace it under guarantee, asking for £29.31 to replace it.

Do not buy this phone, it will break.

I have had this phone for around about half a year & at first I loved it, as time went on I realised that all this phone really does is look the part. Don't get drawn in by the fancy looks because you will get bored of the flippy thing in about a week. For music this phone is great, mainly because you can play music so easily & the dedicated music control buttons are great, but the speaker is pretty quiet. However nowadays it is easy to play music on pretty much all phones, so nothing makes this phone special. As for the camera, well I didn't buy this phone for the camera but I at least expected to record videos! To zoom in you have to be on VGA which makes the picture look so bad that really there is no need taking it in the first place. One positive is the battery life which is excellent. If all you want your phone for is music & to look good & fit in your pocket then get this phone, however if your looking for a phone that covers quite a few bases do not get this phone! PS. My flippy thing is broken too!

It's turned out to be quite horrible, I've had it for 5 months & it's fallen apart. It's not a flip phone anymore & the back button & a couple others have failed. & also the flimsy back cover has warped. The lack of video camera & measly 1.3 mpeg camera are a bit annoying too but in all fairness Sony isn't a bad company I had the 550i for close to 3 years without a problem. But this. This beast is something else.

It looks cool to children & adolescents & it is good for music & phone calls & texts but it is very poorly & cheaply built.

They are marketing it towards children, so it should be robust, but the hinge on the flip on the front is not strong & will break off easily, & Sony want between £22 & up to £45 to fix it.

This is robbery given that it is a design fault.

So many people have mentioned it that Sony must have designed this fault in, so they could make a profit out of upset children whose phone falls apart.

The people at Sony should be prosecuted for this.

A great phone, especially for the price you pay. The only bad things I have to say about this phone is that the flap seems rather flimsy, & that the camera can't record video. Other than that I couldn't really ask for more, I've dropped the phone on a concrete floor loads of times with no adverse effects, & my friend even dropped it in a sink full of water the other day, he left it on the radiator overnight & it was working fine the next day.

It's a decent phone if comparing with its pricing. Enjoy the Walkman features & the ease of playing songs. Looks simple & tidy design.

Not a very strong phone & it will come apart with heavy usage. One of the best budget phones on the market.

I have had this phone for a while now, its alright, but I didn't mind about the rubbish camera, but wherever you go, video recording, Errr it actually doesn't.

- I have also had up to 2000 pictures on my phone & when it got to 2400 it finally said memory full :/.
- the key lock switch is really tricky & I often have to bite it just to slide it across & this annoys me.
- I have also broken some of the key lock switch off, just trying to slide it across.
- It is small, neat & compact for all people on the go, but sometimes, it doesn't switch on at first, & the screen suddenly goes blank :/.
- Alright phone, but next upgrade, slide, higher megapixel & larger memory for me (why) xx.

I love the look & feel of this flip phone, the music sounds pretty good & I can even live without predictive text (I'd forgotten how irritating the T9 system is!), but sadly my mobile will be up for sale on eBay almost at once because of one really stupid feature, there's a calendar & you can programme reminders & to alert you the phone gives one sad little whimper. This is useless, I want an alert that I can programme to YELL at me, & then squeak at regular intervals until I have paid it attention. But therein lies the rub, not only is there no repetitive squeak, but you can't customize the alert sound. Really. I have an email from Sony Ericsson confirming it. So sadly I shall have to give up this cute phone & lose money on the deal, but I am off back to Motorola where you can choose your own alert & have the thing holler at you if needs be & squeak annoyingly until you take notice of it.

I've had this phone since August last year & I have had no trouble with it whatsoever. I knew the camera only had 1.3 megapixel before I bought it, that didn't bother me, as I've got a decent camera. It was the Walkman I really wanted it for & I have no complains there, it's brilliant & small enough to fit in your pocket. The only improvement I would make, is that the wallpaper you choose shows on the front screen when the flap is closed instead of the Walkman screen. When people complain about the camera not being very good, I take it they don't read the specs before buying! There are plenty of other mobiles with higher pixels, buy one of those.

Since buying this phone in May 2008, I've received 2 replacements from Sony Ericsson. All instruments including the one I am using now have the same problem, the silver coating on the navigation key wears off. I have asked for a full refund. They are offering me a fourth replacement, no way. Additionally, the rubbery coating at the back has started peeling off & the phone freezes at times during conversation.

The phone is really good & the design is fabulous. However, I've noticed that if the flap comes off, a little piece of metal falls out. Not noticing that this had fallen out, I carried on. The problem I have is that I can't find a replacement flap or little piece of metal. You need the little piece of metal as it is a sort of lever that changes the screen from the home screen to the Walkman screen. Without it, the Walkman seems pointless! I would like to know where I can get a replacement flap or little metal thing from so that my phone will work how it's supposed to. I would take it back to the shop where I got it from but they always seem to keep it for far too long & never repair it in time to when they say it will be ready.

I got this phone for my birthday in November & think it's great & easy to use. I've never had any problems with it. It holds a lot & I have over 100 hundred songs & maybe even more photos the cameras quite good for a 1.3 mp also. I only have a 512 mb memory card that came with the phone. I've dropped it millions of times since I have got it but have had no difficulties with it. I would recommend this phone to anyone as it has all the features you would need even the Internet which is great for when you're in a lesson or on a bus or train. I especially like the design & thing it has its own unique design it's clever & modern. It has great features & sound & an even greater memory.

Seriously what more could you ask for?

Excellent little phone, & yes I mean little. Very handy size, almost forget I have it.

Pretty aggravating that is allows you to assign a wallpaper which is then changed back to Walkman paper when you shut the flap. Apparently you can't change this.

Bad camera? No Video record? Well yeah, it's a Walkman, originally a company for MUSIC players.

Want a decent camera & a recorder? Wrong phone for you.

Want something efficient, slim & modern which plays music a treat? You know what comes next.

BUY IT :).

I have had two of these phones in the last 5 months & both have failed, the first within 5 weeks & the second within 5 months, literally just packed in for no reason. There is clearly a design fault with any phone that fails, literally won't fire up with such regularity. Looks are only skin deep, do not buy this, it's seriously flawed!

It is a good phone with lots of features but some problems.

- the silver coating on the toggle keys are wearing down after only 2 weeks of use.
- It is sometimes difficult to avoid pressing 2 buttons at once (no my fingers are not fat).
- the lock switch is too stiff & cannot be operated without a fingernail.
- You can only switch the phone off when the wallpaper is displayed.
- Closing the flip does not bring you back to the wallpaper screen (this is only a problem when I want to switch the phone off. There should be a home button.)

My phone is not yet falling apart like some of the other reviews I have read but I am having some large problems that are not design faults.

- the external speaker has stopped working. I have not dropped my phone once, though my little brother has hit the phone through my pocket once or twice.
- I can't always play the music on the memory card, even if the file manager says there is one inserted

I need help if anybody knows how to fix these problems.

I had this phone since October 2008 it's so good I never leave my house without it. I recommend this phone to everyone, so what if it doesn't have a video player, all you need a phone for is texting & phoning.

It is a perfect phone for me it's small & great the flip never comes off it is perfectly stabled I wouldn't sell this phone for 1000 pound it is awesome my advice is get this phone & ignore what the others say this phone is 10 out of 10 buy it, trust me you won't regret it is extremely useful & is the phone of my dreams.

I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone. A group of me & my friends bought this phone, 5 in total. Only one is left working. Mine was broken after 2 month! When I first bought the phone I thought it seemed an idea little phone perfect for all my needs. Then the first phone broke, the screen stopped working. Soon after the second & third went, the Walkman player flap snapped off. I thought I was very lucky that mine hadn't broken, soon to be proven wrong though. Just texting one day I noticed it had started to crack along the bottom of the flap. I was quick to return the phone to Carphone Warehouse about getting the phone fixed. They told me it would cost me £45 pound to be sent off to Sony. On one network the phone cost less than this. I was recently looking around the same Carphone Warehouse, when I saw the displayed w350i had the same problem. Shocking!

I am now back to using my LG phone, probably the best I've had. LG for the win!

I love this mobile. It is a great shape. It's slim, & small so it will fit in to anyone's pocket or bag. There are a lot of features on this phone much similar to all the other Sony Ericsson's. That's what makes it a great phone, Bluetooth, camera (1.3 mp), music maker & Walkman. It's all there. The only problem with it is that the mobile is to slim & a lot of people including myself are having trouble holding it. It slips out of your hand a lot. But don't be put off by this, it's a lovely little phone with great features. BUY IT! LEDGE!

I bought this phone 1 month ago & this was my first Sony phone. The plastic is so fragile that even a 3 year old can break the flap into two, a cheap ruler would be stronger than the flap.

1 week after the purchase earphones started giving trouble & I gave it to Sony people for a replacement. They told me that I'll get it after a month (Nokia takes 5 to 7 days to replace a defective phone). I went after 45 days & they told me that it will take another week (I live in a good city & not a remote town).

Both Walkman logos came out within 10 days, the glue used was like chewing gum (maybe they ran out of glue so the person his chewing gum to stick it).

Yesterday I was talking on the phone & it slipped & fell down. The screen broke (I was sitting on bed & it fell from 2ft height but still screen broke). Used Nokia & Motorola phones before & they fell from much greater heights but screen never broke.

Sony phones are terrible. I learnt it by wasting my money but you can learn it for free.

I have had this phone for 5 months now, I am having to take it back on Friday to get a new one because the flip is starting to crack do if I flip it down it is going to break off. The bit where it says Sony Ericsson at the top is peeling off which makes the phone the horrible. I am not happy that it has only lasted 5 months, I look after my phones & I am very annoyed this has happened.

I know a lot of other people who have this phone & have had the same problem as me & have had to take it back I just hope I will get a replacement because I cannot use it because I cannot flip the flip down so it is useless to me. I would advise people not get this phone because of these problems.

I really love the design & I just wish this didn't happen.

I've had this phone for about 3 months now & I really like it. It's so slim & tactile & doesn't feel like you've got a brick in your pocket. It's the coolest phone I've had & everyone seems to admire it!

I've had no problems with firmware or the flip & love the retro feel it has. I can easily exchange information with MS Outlook & move pictures & photo's to & from the phone using the software supplied, however you do need to install Sony's PC Suite & Media Manager to do this.

I love the Walkman side of things too, the Media Manager converts any song you transfer to MP3 without affecting the original, which is a relief!

As for the camera, well it's a phone! That being said the photos are surprisingly good & use it much more that I thought I would. I can live with the lack of video capture, just.

At a time where mobiles seem to be getting bigger to accommodate keyboards & touch screens etc, not to mention expensive contracts, this little Sony stands out. Synchronises with Outlook? No problem, Take decent photos? No problem, has half a gig of music? No problem.

Get one now!

Got this phone the other day after having problems with my Nokia 6500 slider & could afford an expensive phone so got this for £60.

So far I am impressed. It's a stunning looking phone (I have the 1 with purple on it) it's so slim.

Features are good for the price, yes there's no video recorder but I have a camera that records videos so not a problem for me as videos on phones always look low quality anyway. Camera is only 1.3MP but doesn't actually take a bad picture. I was quite impressed considering its only 1.3MP & if I want top quality pictures I have my camera. Love all the Walkman features exactly what a Walkman phone is supposed to be about.

It's easy to use & a bargain for the price. Doesn't feel cheap & tacky & it's a typical Sony Ericsson which I like.

I would recommend this phone completely.

Looks nice but really useless to use & the Sony Ericsson backup is nonexistent. MP3 player will not work unless you have your own software to convert the files into a language the thing will understand.

It comes with its own file software which I played safe & used. IT DOES NOT WORK. Put a CD into the computer click to copy it to the phone, it sends it across in CDA format which the phone (MP3) cannot read!

Used lots of MP3 players before, all no problem. This one is useless. Phoned their support line & I am told software IS working because it put the file onto the phone! & they would not accept the software & promise that I could easy put a CD onto the phone was wrong.

I was advised to surf the net for a cda MP3 converter. I asked that they provide one from a trusted site as I would not be sure what I was getting along with the programme if I just downloaded one on line. They said they could not.

Useless phone & useless support. DO NOT BUY ONE PLEASE.

The best phone I have ever owned. Usually I break my phones within 2 weeks (Including RAZR V3, Sony Ericsson K700, Sony Ericsson W300i & Nokia 5300. I have had this for 3 months now & it hasn't got a scratch on it, people say the flap is flimsy, but it isn't, it is made from durable rubber, with an anti break system of the flap going back more than it's supposed to for shock resistance. I've had this dropped in Orange juice for over 10 seconds with it still on & working fine (apart from a bit sticky & leaking water), dropped down concrete steps, dropped on floors varies occasions & still has no scratches on at all!

Probably the best phone & most durable ever made. It looks sleek & Black & Violet are my colours which is even better for me. Only problem is that I would like to be able to move around without the flap open but I am sure I could flash my phone & have that removed anyway. Top class phone for just the £80 I spent on it. My friends have had other Sony Ericsson Walkman phones for around the same time as I've had my W350i (including the w810i etc.) & have all been majorly scuffed or been broken. If you are clumsy, buy this, if you aren't well off, buy this, if you like style, buy this.

Very easy to use like most Sony Ericsson phones & the music is great. The phone comes supplied with quality earphones, 512MB memory card & the PC suite which is very useful because it converts music files that don't work (WMA) into MP3 files. No video recorder, no remote control Bluetooth, easy to break material, not a cheap phone I think. It's 160USD. The D pad is easy to break in the center, the screen is very easy to scratch, the speaker phone not a good sound doesn't like Nokia 5310, & the flip easy to break. Bad material for Sony Ericsson. The earphone not from Walkman there is no logo w at the earphone. Very disappointing phone with bad material. Think twice before you buy & this phone not recommended.

It was a really good phone to use.

It's not bad at all. The only problem I have is the different colours they provide & when it is dark you can't see the keypad. But overall its a fairly good phone.

This is the first mobile review I have ever done so no doubt the (almost) glowing review I am about to give will jinx my phone & it'll break! This is a fantastic phone, especially for the price (varies from about £69.99 to £119.99 depending on network). It has lots of great features that you would expect from a Sony Ericsson, while not being over complex like some of the more expensive models (I think this is their downfall where software crashes etc are concerned).

Most importantly, it has the Walkman feature. This works really well & the sound are very good. The Walkman is very easy to use, especially with the controls on the flip (it can be controlled with the inside buttons too though). Transferring music is a doddle using the supplied software & data cable & transfer times are fairly good, though not the fastest you've ever seen.

As a phone, making & taking calls is easy & the clarity is good. Texting is also very easy.

Now, onto the controversial flip! It's not really flimsy like you would think but I can see how rough handling may cause it to break. It's also a bit annoying at times, especially when texting as it can get in the way a bit but overall I think this was a good, innovative idea on Sony Ericsson's part, especially with them putting the music controls on it.

So far I have found battery life to be very good, especially as I use the Walkman all the time.

Overall I am very pleased with this phone, it has so many good things about & so few negatives for such a wonderful price! (It's nice & light & small too! )

They gave me a replacement phone on 11th June. On 5th July, the same problems resurfaced, the silver coating on the navigation tool has started peeling off. It seems the vendor who supplied this part to Sony has had quality control issues. I don't know if you guys have experienced this, but here in Singapore, I believe there have been more than one such case.

The following was posted by me on 26th May. It flattered to deceive. Within 1 week of its purchase, the metal coating on the navigator key started breaking & peeling off, revealing an ugly black surface. I approached the service centre only to be told that since it is a new model, parts are not available. I asked for a replacement phone & they have agreed subject to stocks arriving. Just keeping my fingers crossed & hoping it does not recur.

The keypad is very poorly lit & difficult to read in dark. Otherwise, a very impressive phone in looks.

I may have only received this phone yesterday but I must say I think it is fantastic.

The design without doubt could be considered as a milestone for Sony Ericsson as their phones tend not to be the best looking phone sticking to a very solid non eye catching look.

But of course looks are not everything, many may say in terms of features it is very basic e.g. 1.3MP camera & no 3G but I personally could not care less. The camera for one is quite impressive, my last phone the Samsung D500 held a 1.3MP camera & in contrast to this phone make pictures on that look feeble. In fact I find the pictures this phone takes more than adequate to what anybody would need. I took a photo in low light woodland & after browsing through shoot mode & contrast setting the picture was as sharp as anything.

The audio on this phone is fine & lives up to those expectations of the Sony Ericsson Walkman phone range. But then remembering crucially that it is a mobile phone & not an MP3 player, which when it comes to this some people forget & getting that crystal clear sound yet compact phone is proving challenging.

Also on a brief note, the flip is not flimsy at all & in my eyes quite sturdy, & believe me I would not have bought something flimsy.

People must also remember that this phone retails from £69.95 therefore do not expect or compare it to a phone that costs £120, like many do.

If you want a budget but feature enriched phone, buy it now!

I got the phone today, so far I am loving it. It is an awesome phone. NO WAY is the flip flimsy like people are saying very secure, everything seems good. If I have any problems I will write back. They should upgrade the phone & put a video recorder on because just a 1.3MP camera isn't the best but love the rest. I would recommend to all music & fashion lovers!

I am Getting Mine This Week, the Blue One, Which Looks Fabulous, Would Like the White One Though But It Hasn't Been Released.

I Hope They Bring Out An Upgrade With Better Camera 2 or 3 mp & A Bigger Screen (Plus the Features On Such As Walkman 3 Player & Media Section On W910i or W760i etc) because I Think This Will Sell Well!

Great little phone, fantastic retro design. Features are adequate given the price bracket, usability is top thank to the flip design, & the great keypads both on & below the flip.

Regarding the absence of tab button, it is mitigated to some extent by the easy setup through settings, general tab of 4 shortcuts on the stand by screen. So basically pressing up could turn Bluetooth on & off, pressing down can be tagged to the alarm clock etc. By the way, the alarm goes off even if the phone is silent, turned off, or in flight mode.

Kudos to Sony Ericsson for such great value, hope it will help them grab some market share in the low budget segment.

Haven't purchased yet, looked at it in shop today. It's beautiful although the cover is slightly flimsy.

anyone know what network provides this purple edition? In O2 they said that different networks provided different colours & I only want the purple one.

The only other way I can find of getting a purple one is by dishing out an extra £40 to £60 online to getting an unlocked phone.

Help anyone?

Amazing phone one of the nicest I have seen an had, just got it 2 days ago & with a bit of haggling managed to get it for £55.95 & a 2G memory card also with the help of a loyalty reward from O2. The phone so far so good, amazing looks easy to use some clever features the slight down side is as all the above have mentioned the camera it could have more megapixels but am sure that will arrive on newer models. My worry is the flip screen as it seems a tad flimsy not had no trouble & I am just worried that it may come lose, has anyone else had problems with this yet?

Amazing phone though.
