I love my W300i, yes there's a few things I'd fix, I'd love to be able to charge my phone in my car while having my FM transmitter plugged in at the same time. The idea of having only one port on the phone wasn't very bright! Other than that I can't complain, I've dropped it on concrete quite a few times, it's gotten wet, & still works fine! As far as using my MP3's as ringtones, I am using the old program I used for my old Motorola, to split the MP3 up into a 30 second or less MP3 & then transfer into my phone via the USB cord. Sounds like a lot of work but only takes a few minutes & gives me the ability to pick which part of the song I want to use as my ringtone, which I actually prefer. I don't text much, so I can't comment on that, & I don't expect much from any camera or video phone but what it takes suits me fine! If I want perfection, I'll use my digital cam. Sony doesn't make you pay extra for their PC programs, you can download it free from their website, unlike Verizon. I've been through many brands of phones & I find this one to be tops actually, I am pretty impressed & I am going on a year with my W300i. I would recommend it! My friends were jealous & went out & purchased new phones that were Walkman like, only to be disappointed & wishing that they weren't stuck in a 2 year contract with a phone that they really did not like. They thought they were going to one up me, but still ended up regretting not getting the W300i!

When I first got this phone I loved it, I still do BUT I am having problems with the Walkman & wondered if anyone can help? Often when I go into the Walkman all my music has disappeared & when I try to play using the playlist, I can still see the tracks there but playback fails. This only happened occasionally but now its most of time so I can't listen to music. Because of this, my alarm & ringtone then defaults to a Sony Ericsson one as my tracks have 'disappeared'?

Had this phone 16 months & have loved it. Had always been a Nokia person & decided to take the plunge away & it proved a good move, nothing against Nokia though. The phone is extremely resilient to accidental damage, I.e. Dropped several times onto concrete & drowned it twice. The phone survived with no problems.
Being a flip phone the screen is well protected, which I think is important. It's great that you are able to see who is ringing & texting you without opening up the phone & if I was to nitpick then I would say this feature needs to have the time lengthened on this view so that you don't have to dash to the phone to see who it is, before it switches itself off.
I have found the reviews really helpful. Cheers.

It's cool, but there are many better mobile phones from the Walkman series with better Sound & Camera.

I've had this phone for just over a year & will upgrade it for another Sony Ericsson. It was going to be the 910i until I read the reports on here. Anyway back to this phone. The keys aren't great, & I have to use my nails to select the numbers & letters that I want, rather than using my fingers or thumbs as on previous phones. I like the navigation compared to Samsung or Nokia etc.
Biggest drawback is the MP3 player. It's great when it works, quality is good, & contrary to what some have said below, you CAN use the MP3s as your ringtones, I do. But I find that it regularly freezes, & the only way out is to switch off & on again. It happens if I select a track to play then shut the phone before it starts playing. It doesn't always happen, but often enough to become frustrating. Also as I plug in & out my headset several times a day, the connection is getting rather poor & I may need a new headset soon. Hopefully it will make it to May when I upgrade.

One of the best phones ever. The camera is OK & nothing to complain about.
You CAN set an MP3 (song) as your ring tone or message tone easily, simply go into File Manager, go down into sounds, select the track you want to use, select more (the top right selection key) select use as & pick for ringtone, alarm signal, message alert, contact ringtone. I worked it out through trial & error.
Another great feature is that you can customise the shortcuts e.g. The navigation key. So it is exactly how you want it to be except the camera is always the up key.
Great sound quality plays louder than most phones. Sony Ericsson phones are great. I've had this since the summer & it is actually the longest I've ever kept a phone for. I don't have any problems with it at all & I am never off mines, constantly texting & phoning!
I recommend it 100% but if you're looking for a good camera phone then it's not for you. Although the quality of the camera on the Sony Ericsson w580i is super! Both Great phones!
Keys don't crack on the w580i anymore. Simple to use both. Sony Ericsson never let you down!

I have had this phone for about 6 months & I have really got bored of it. The phone has its good & bad points.
Bad.
- the camera is awful.
- the central button got dirt inside it after a week.
- the style on the inside isn't great & what an earth is the bump on the top of it for?
- the predictive text is not great.
Good.
- It is great for music.
- Buy this phone for a reasonable price & it should get you going for 1 year maximum.
I think I am going to get the u600.

This phone is really good, MP3 is the best in it a lot of nice features but the camera isn't so great.
I have only got one problem, it's impossible to set songs as ringtones that would be really cool if you could but too bad.
Reviewer: Jen - UK

Had this phone for 9 months. Have read some reviews & am quite confused, especially about the ones about texting. You can get currency symbols. You go on more & then symbols & they're there.
The camera isn't good. But then what do you expect for the price the phone is. It's even advertised as being 0.6MP, so I don't understand why people are complaining. The pictures aren't awful I've put some of my pictures on face book, & are better than vga pictures.
This phone is so easy to use. The menu is easy to navigate & is straightforward. I'd never had a Sony Ericsson before this & will definitely buy another Sony Ericsson!
Two problems though. I don't like how you can't take pictures without the phone making a shutter sound, it's very annoying! Another problem is that it switches itself off occasionally, took it to Orange & they fixed it in less than a week (thank you Orange! Much quicker than O2). However it's now having the same problem. Switches itself off about once every two days. Has a 2 year warranty so will just take it back to Orange. My dad has the same phone & this hasn't happened to his. He hasn't had any problems & bought is phone just 2 days after I got mine.
This phone also has a screen on the outside which is useful as it shows the date, time, who's calling when someone is calling you, that you've got a text & who it's from, what song is playing when you're listening to music, & pressing the down (or up can't remember) shows you whether you've got any appointments for that day which you can add in the calendar.
The music player is really good, the phone came with a 256 memory card so can store enough songs & plenty of photos. When playing music through the media player you can close the phone & on the outside screen it shows you what song is playing & & a bar showing the progress of the song. You can also pause, alter volume & skip the track using the outside buttons.
I was a bit wary about the shape of the buttons, but they're easy to use. Again I don't understand some comments complaining about them. I've had no problems & neither has my dad.
This phone has a lot of pretty cool features too. I love the video editing & photo editing. Is very fun & something to do if you're bored? An odd but good feature I found was something called 'music mate'. It has guitar chords which show you where to put your fingers & plays the chord for you so you know what it sounds like. Has a keyboard. But I am not really sure what for as changing the note is quite slow. Maybe you can tune your guitar to it also in music mate is a metronome. You know that thing that ticks at the top of a piano LOL!
Overall I am very glad I purchased this phone! & I would highly recommend it :).

I really love this phone & I am sorry but I don't understand the bad review below mine. When silence or vibrate is selected everything goes silent which is really good & if the key is held with the number on then it will automatically jump to the number! I have only one issue with this phone & that is the quality of the camera isn't great but it isn't top of the range any more, so this is understandable! Very reliable phone highly recommended!

On the outside this is a great looking phone, but after that just what were these designers thinking when it came to features? This phone has great sound for music that is by a long shot its strongest feature. It also looks sleek on the outside. External design, therefore, is 100%. But, here goes.
No sounds should mean precisely that when I get a delivery report. I do not want any sounds on my phone when I tick that option (I am in a library most of my waking time). It is the height of bad manners to have such noises in libraries, concert halls, theatres, cinemas etc, yet I want my delivery reports. Nokia can do this, why can't Sony? It incenses me no end that silent does not exist on this phone. What were they thinking?
The text functionality of this phone is atrocious. I couldn't have envisaged a phone as bad.
- Why on earth does this phone's text not have the euro, dollar & sterling symbols? Is it really that hard to incorporate them?
- Why on earth are the Arabic numerals, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc at the end of a, b, c, d, etc? To get the number 1, for example, you have to press the letter a 13 times! I really want to clobber the person who designed this phone's text features (or lack thereof). It is just an utterly unintelligent design. There is little or no thought, & clearly the same amount of market research.
- I do not need another noise when I go on to SMS 2 & believe me I have all my text sounds on 'silent'.
These are really simple things to rectify. This could be a great phone, but at the moment it is more a nuisance than a joy to communicate with it.

The only reason I bought this phone was because it was a cheap music phone. The phone has a rubber exterior, so it had a grip. I didn't like putting it in my pocket cause of the uncomfortable bulge on the back. The screen & camera was so bad that things looked more like cartoons than real images. The keys were also not the easiest to use. It is hard to navigate, but it works OK as a music phone. It perished, along with my Nano, in the washer, so I now have the RIZR. Good riddance.

Very good phone, simple but sophisticated. Sound quality is great, features & applications are great! The external screen makes life so easy! Texting is easy, phone calls are easy, camera is okay, good but not brilliant. Memory is good, but can be upgraded. The design is rather abstract but stylish & very durable!
Only bad thing I found, the rubber bit on the microphone slides off sometimes, & the screen slowly starts to move around a bit.
Overall this is a good phone & would recommend it to anyone!

This phone overall is pretty good. The Walkman media player is great I love that I have a decent phone with a built in MP3 player. The memory card you get (256MB) isn't the best but it holds up to 55 songs.
I can't wait for the Sony Ericsson w380i to come out though, it is an amazing purple colour with features from the w300i. Overall I would say this phone is a great buy (I got it for £50 in may 2007) & is pretty handy & at least it's not a brick.

I thought you couldn't set your MP3's as ringtones at first too. But if you move your MP3 files into the folder marked MP3 when you're on your computer they'll appear when you go into the sounds & alerts & set ringtone menus.
Camera isn't great though is better in bad light conditions it's better than brother's Sony Ericsson's K550i (that camera is supposed to be 2 mega pixels).
One problem I have is that after transferring a file the screen goes blank & only comes on after pressing the on & off button.
It's a good phone overall for the money & you can get a 512MB Sony pro memory card for £8.00 from Amazon. It's better than the k550i in my opinion although maybe that's just because my brothers got one!

I have had this phone for 9 months. I enjoyed the music features & the included headset. The buttons are terrible, not designed for real fingers.
The menu is counter intuitive compared to Motorola's & Nokia's I've had. The flip hinge is flimsy, always knew it would be a problem. Now neither screen will work consistently, nor the built in earpiece. I have to take all calls on the headset or speakerphone. I can't access my contacts.

I've had this phone for a while now & it's been one of the best phones I've had. It has been a reliable phone with quite a good battery life for playing music about 7 hours a day. It has suffered major abuse dropping on the floor, falling into a stream with it in my pocket but it has died now from getting melted chocolate into the contacts for charging. Just like other reviews the camera is not worth bothering about. Just good for an emergency. However it takes a 4GB micro stick so the amount of music stored can be vast. Mine is fully loaded & it is also handy as you can back up all of your contacts to it. Music transfer is easy using the provided software or drag & drop.

Sony Ericsson has gone downhill. No matter what anybody says Nokia is the overall favourite. Song Ericsson phones always break etc. My cousin, a couple of my friends & I have had this phone & they have all broke! My phone was returned to me whilst getting repaired from Sony Ericsson & had a numerous number of scratches on. Don't buy their phones go for Samsung or Nokia!

I have had this phone for a year or so. I am hard on my phones - I put them in my back pocket & sit on them, & I drop them all the time. Despite the abuse, my phone is still working well. A few times the screen has frozen for a few seconds, then turned black, but that was only after I dropped it.
The sound is great, only issue I have is I can't use MP3s that I added to my phone from my computer as ringtones. Not sure why. The camera is not so good, but what do you expect - it's a phone. If you want quality pictures buy a nice camera.
I don't particularly like the design, but the features are worth it.

I have had this phone 6 months & have become increasingly annoyed with it, so I am happy I am now upgrading. The camera is so bad, everything is just blurry (even though when I bought it I swear it said it had 2 megapixel). Also the buttons are rubbish, they are too close together. It is good as a Walkman & stuff if you are into listening to music on your phone, but you will need to buy a bigger memory card because 256MB is not enough, I would recommend people spend their money on something different to this.

I had this phone last Christmas & it was the first phone I could listen to my music on & I was amazed by Bluetooth then come August 2007, my screen starts flashing & I know there will be scratches but I was gutted that it had broke because it had all of my music on, it was virtually my life, & phones 4 you refused to fix or refund me & it had been under a year, so I don't really like that phone. Though, if you want a good music phone, get a Sony Ericsson!

I have to say, having this phone almost a year it is amazing, I have dropped it in a pool & it's still perfect, I have taken pictures which are amazing quality, I listen to my mp3s on the bus & radio when I am bored, amazing, if you don't buy this phone you are missing out.

I already own one great phone, if you are into Bluetooth fast transfer rates, great for Bluetooth just note to change your b/t visibility settings or someone could blue jack you!

It is a great phone to have my friend has 1 but am planning on buying on in south Africa it expansive because it has the Walkman interface & the name Sony Ericsson its rare & because people don't known about it the shop & to sell it at a higher price then what it should be. They is this shop called Vodacom it sells cell phones & puts the prices up in the ceiling, the fact that it comes with a USB cable, quality headphones & disc2phone software Vodacom sells the phone at a high price. I know that I have never begin to the UK, USA & other more developed countries, but t I am not saying that south Africa is not developed it is & I love it. I love the design of the w300i the screen is a bit small but its OK, I am a music person so the phone is perfect for me also love the interface. The phone in South Africa is as expansive as the Nokia 5300 which has a bigger screen & a 1.3 megapixal lens compared to the vga on the w300i.

I have had this phone since November 2006 & I think it's quite a good phone but the memory is quite small & I often have to delete texts, photos & videos. It is good for music, it has a radio & you can upload CD's onto it, overall I think the mobile is good but if your like me & always want the newest phone, the slide up mobiles are the latest design & are more in fashion.

Had phone for a day find it really easy to use, camera OK but not really bothered as if I want to take pic/video I get my digital 8 camcorder out. My partner she has a Nokia I can never get my head round these phones. Even she agrees how easy my w3ooi is she is now trying to get me to swap, NO CHANCE. The last Sony phone I had for six years with original battery but the phone took an exception to being inside the washing machine up until then I never had any trouble with it. I do find Sony a reliable make on the whole so only time will tell with my new w300i I will let you know in a few weeks time.

This was my last phone, I had it for a year & feel it has served me well. Until towards the end when it would just start shutting off on me! I found that if it was knocked slightly or the it was flipped closed, it would just shut off & I would have to turn the phone on again. This may be a common fault having read other reviews.
Freezing of the screen seems to be a fault with Walkman phones (from other review) but I did not experience it with the W300i.
When I first got it, it took a few days to get used to texting with it, it feels different but with a bit of practice, you can text very fast with it!
Battery life is great, I use my phone for texting a lot each day & make a few calls each week & found I only had to charge my phone every 4 days or so.
Walkman feature is good & clear. It was a shame to only be able to fit about 50 songs in the memory I had & not any more.
Great for a flip phone, why are Sony not making any other flip phones like this in the W range? They need more! I have now got a W580i & the battery life so far does not compare! Only lasting about 2 days & I am not even up to my usual texting / calling capacity! (Great phone design though with the W580i!).

I bought this phone to replace my z530 & I have got to say it's 10 times better! The screens is a lot brighter & the camera even though the same number of mega pixels is 10x better as well! If you are planning on getting a z530 don't because for an extra £20 the w300 beats the z530 any day!

I like this phone because of the built-in FM Radio & MP3 player plus the M2 card slot. I bought this phone because of that. But I hate the keypad. I hate the menu design because it makes the phone more complicated. I dislike the buy/download, shop for tones. Option to get some extra application that isn't essential.

You get moaning people saying you can't text on this phone but they are not right because they will have tried to send one text then give up. LEARN TO USE the KEYPAD please!

I am on my second w300i from Cingular/AT&T & about to be a third. This phone just up & shuts itself off 2 - 3 times a day. Thought it was me at first, until I tested it for 2 days, 12 hours a day. I left it undisturbed on my desk, checking it every hour. At least twice a day it would be off. Buggy software. I am missing too many important calls. Not a good phone.

I've had this phone for about 9 Months. I have never had any faults with it. It's also very robust, it fell out of my pocket once on Detonator at Thorpe park & fell about 15ft onto solid concrete, & all the damage that was left was a tiny scratch on the corner of the fascia, which could easily be changed.
The Walkman Music Player delivers high quality sounding music & has actually replaced my current 20GB Zen Photo. The features on it are limited but it is simple & easy to use. The camera & video capture aren't as good as I would have liked but what else would you expect from a VGA 0.3MP Camera.
There are better looking phones for sale, but the ability to change fascias gives you a chance to customize it to your liking. Overall it's a very nice & robust phone & is an outstanding phone for its value.
