This phone does all the jobs I need in a phone. Very flexible in a every way, right down to the price. Really fantastic!

I bought this phone 2 years ago, I still have it, & I think that this phone is unbreakable. Through the whole time of using this phone I have had one problem with it (True, it used to turn off itself randomly but that stopped & have never happened again). I am a careless person & this phone landed 2 times in a lukewarm cup of coffee & even once in a hot one. Still works!
I like things which look good & are well made. I recommend this phone to any person which would like to buy a phone that is both cheap & of very good quality.

I am using this phone to place this comment now. Here are some pros & cons.
Pros.
- 3rd party app support.
- Lots of features.
- Good storage capacity.
- Can minimize apps.
Cons.
- Takes forever to boot.
- Also takes ages to build music library.
- Randomly turns off.
- Battery hardly lasts a day.
- Sometimes doesn't ring.
- Internet button position means you can often bump it.
Overall not a bad phone, but for the price there are better models available, hope I have helped someone into making a decision.

I have had this phone for three months & the features are good BUT the battery is next too useless. On a full charge over night the red low battery sign with 24% left comes up. I have even brought a new battery with the same result. My last phone a K7701 would only need charging once a week!

Good phone, but not good battery. A traveller cannot rely on its battery.
Good for watching videos, movies, listening to songs.
Good camera.
I cannot find a good case for this model.

I have had this phone for almost a year & have only had one problem with it which was that the volume was stuck on high. I got it for NZ$300, (which is a good price for what it can do) & I am very satisfied with it. Good camera, excellent media player, good radio, easy to use & easy to text with. For all those people with stubby fingers out there, this isn't the phone for you, buttons are small & the red button is too close to the Internet button so I sometimes connect to the Internet unwillingly. As for it switching off, mine does that maybe once every 3 months but that doesn't affect me. The battery is pretty unreliable, sometimes it will last 2 days others a week.
Overall, just some minor problems but more good things.
Tip: EXTEND YOUR WARRANTY THIS PHONE BREAKS QUITE EASILY!

I got this phone last year for Christmas. At first it was great! But I always have this problem where it switches off & says my SIM is inactive.
The phone looks great & I love the chunkiness of it. But buttons are a bit tricky but you soon adapt to it. The phone has plenty of features, but I think the quality of the screen lets it down.
So overall I would say this is a simple to use phone, ideal for someone who wants a fuss free phone. But if you want a phone with wow factor then this is not for you.

I recently got my second V640i & I still think it's a great phone. I bought the first one last March & got it unlocked in the summer as I was thinking of switching networks but it wasn't until January that I actually moved to another network. I used another operator SIM in the phone & that's where problems started the phone wouldn't select the Internet settings for the network I moved to so as I use Internet a lot I had decided as the phone was having problems to just go & buy a phone on that network so I went & got a K770i. After two months of this phone & a dreadful network, I realised that the v640i was the best phone I'd ever owned & so I went & got a new v640i & went back to the original network. Overall this is a very smart looking phone with a great feel & it looks great in the havana gold colour. Had no problems with any of them apart from the problem with the first one I got but that may have been my own fault for getting it unlocked. The sound is good with or without the headset & speakers & it can take a bigger memory card than 4GB M2 as I got an 8GB in mine & works fine. As for problems of phone freezing & turning off, mine doesn't do that. Still give this phone top marks. Well done Sony Ericsson for such a great phone!

At first I loved this phone, but after a few months the battery kept dying & the phone never rang, once leaving me with 14 missed calls within 2 hours. Now on a replacement I supposedly have an inactive SIM & a phone that switches off when I try to text somebody. In addition quite dangerously it will not let me ring anyone. I would advise you not to buy this phone but it's up to you.

Buttons are too small.
Red button is too near Internet button resulting in involuntary connection to the Internet.
Lately a fault occurs when I try to view photographs. The phone switches off.
So in summary, it's a bad design & do not waste your money.

This phone the Sony Ericsson v640i Vodafone looks amazing looks like a true music phone & you also get Sony Ericsson exclusive havana mps 70 speakers. So it looks amazing but when it come to holding songs it only holds 5 songs in the phone.& say if the phone was in your pocket & when you moved say you hit the side button that takes you to the Internet you would be wasting phone credit. Finally if the phone is in your pocket & someone calls you the phone except the call automatically & if you were having a private talk the person who called you would hear you without you even knowing so I am sad to say this phone is garbage. Finally I would like to say is, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GARBAGE!

Recently My Wife Purchased the Sony Ericsson for My Birthday Present, & Being a Nokia User since the Days of the Old Trusty Brick Phone, I Was a Bit Weary of the Change, 2 months after I got the phone I started to notice that the Speaker is Buzzing as If it has Been Blown. I Find This Is Constant & Remember that Sony Of the Nokia's had this Problem that was Rectified by a Software upgrade, Dose Anybody Know if Sony are having the Same Problems.
Also does it annoy anyone else that when you go to lock the Phone, you can end up Hitting the Vodafone Live Symbol thus connecting you to the Internet Unaware, I Have Asked how you Remove the Internet connect option from the Front Screen But nobody Seems to know how?
Overall not a Bad Phone but has anyone had the Same Mobile for more than a Year Anymore.

I changed from Nokia to this phone only recently, I find that it is just as easy to use as the Nokia. The only problem I am having with it is that the battery doesn't seem to last very long, it needs to be charged every single night or the battery just dies.

Nice phone, got it as a present for my birthday. The only problem I have is that the speaker connection doesn't work much even when plugged in & the phone says I need to connect the hands-free in order to listen to the radio.
Seems to hit & miss for me, the headphone connection seems a little more robust but sometimes requires me to turn off & on in order to detect them.

Hi again! I discover by chance what is affecting the behaviour of my V640I! The phone has until now crises of rebooting itself forever & ever without any known reason.
When I work with this phone I need to load a big list of contacts using the Sony Ericsson application. I also loaded some photos from the older phone. Some of these photos are the problem! Once I deleted it from the phone memory then it works without this strange behaviour. Photos can be in the memory for a while & the telephone works some time but without a direct relation action done on it then the behaviour is trigged. This also explains why the phone worked well for some hours after coming from Vodafone (complete memory was erased). Along this last week's I check that all photos coming from a Sony camera have no problems but other might have.
Besides this the phone behaves OK.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any helpful tips on how to solve it? Thanks.

After reading all the previous threads here I am somewhat relieved to say that I haven't suffered the curse of the handset switching itself off & on or the text messaging blockings, in fact I have had absolutely no problem with mine until about 3 weeks ago after owning it for 4 months. Shop assistant today confirmed what others have hinted that earlier batches had to be recalled due to bios crashes.
After owning this models predecessor the V630i I was quite impressed when they said I could have this one for free as an upgrade.
Vodafone's email sync feature is excellent & I regularly receive updates from both my windows live hotmail account & my main account with BT. This phones build quality is better than the last, the camera is slightly better in its function but not as good as the cyber shot models. I disagree with others who have negatively said the speaker isn't loud enough! It's only 10mm in diameter & is loud to the point of distortion when maxed up, how loud does a phone have to be? ! People who walk round blarring their music for everyone else to suffer need stringing up anyway! That's why they invented headphones in the first place isn't it?
The 4gig M2 memory card compatibility means that I can chuck 250 plus MP3 tracks on it (best computer to phone software I have come across) & the headphone socket utilises a standard 3mm jack so you can get a good sonic experience if you use other than the standard ones supplied.
A great ipod substitute, just as good sonically which says a lot for the Walkman brand of phones.
Menus are easy & the switching between tasks is awesomely quick compared to say a Nokia or a Motorola.
The problems I have had were that I started to get fluctuations in signal strength, it would fluctuate between the full 5 bars & just two if you stood the phone upright & then laid it down. It never dropped the calls but it would never hold full signal for more than a couple of seconds whereas others phones stayed on full.
The factory I work at has a booster mast right behind it & I could always get full signal anywhere inside & it's now gone to zero bars & No network available & this has caned the battery so I was only getting half the life (36 hours) whereas I was getting 72 hours plus on one charge. Phone sent off for repairs today. I wait with baited breath (at least this time Vodafone managed to give me a courtesy handset! ).

I swapped to Sony after being a Nokia user! BAD MOVE!
I am a rep on the road all day & the phone started off great! But now the hands-free, no one can hear me, the in car charger stopped charging. The volume in phone has dropped. 3days ago, I left it in the car with key lock on & it rung the last number twice (I was with the person) who asked why I was ringing her! With no phone in hand I couldn't explain.
Then that night, I turned it off & back on a couple hours later, the screen & contacts & everything is all scrambled & I can't access anything, then about three out of four times it comes up as Spanish (Espanol? ) I managed to go to settings only because of the picture & hit what I guessed was English, again I just switched off now & it's doing the same!
I want to go back to Nokia! Don't like this phone : (.

Also comes with memory card so holds a decent amount of things. I have in Havana Gold very nice :) Love it :).

If your phone turns itself off after 30 seconds, this could be because of the typical Sony rubbish bios programmers. I had this on their first flip phone Z5 which all of a sudden could not deal with some older SIM Cards. Sony Support refused to admit that their phone bios is faulty, yet the cards worked in other phones. I found out that older cards work with different voltage & Sony could not handle the newer cards. Ever since, I have lost total confidence in Sony. This phone I was given by my wife, I did not want a newer phone & most certainly never another Sony product ever again.
The comments left here rather support my opinion about Sony. I will not support Sony shares with my money & this phone is going straight to eBay.

I have had this phone about 3 weeks now but on to my second phone as the first one, when I rang people or they rang me it made a crackling noise down the line I took it back into the Vodafone shop the next day & they gave me a brand new one straight away & this one has been fine so far only problem is the battery as it always runs out on me! Also often when I press the menu button it goes onto Vodafone live! I can't put up with that though as no major fault with it. Very nice design & good features.

Do NOT buy this handset! (Usability score is for when it works!)
I am now on my fourth handset in less than 6mths. I have experienced both the main problems highlighted on this thread already. My first handset lasted about 2 months before it started the constant trying to reboot its self without succeeding. My second handset lasted about 2.5mths before it started turning itself off after about 2 minutes. My third handset last 10 minutes! Before it too turned itself off & I am now waiting to see what Vodafone do next!
This handset has a great easy to use operating system when it works but there is clearly some other fundamental issue going on here.
Incidentally does anyone know what is acceptable compensation from Vodafone & do they even give any? Is it possible to make them change the handset while still in contract? Can you break the contract due to not providing a working handset? I am starting to get really miffed about the constant week turn around on all repairs, especially in the last case when they gave me a clearly broken handset back & then had the cheek to tell me I'd have to wait another week!

Well I have already commented on here when I first got my Sony Erisson V640i, as everything was going well & I was really enjoying using this new handset. Until now!
It has stopped me from sending or recieving text messages, which is so irritating. You don't realise how much you use them or how much people contact you via tx & when you can no longer view them its irritating! I am taking back the handset today, this is going to be my second handset of this phone, but I had 3 of my last Sony Ericsson. They are brilliant phones but they always seem to have problems!
Overall it is a good phone but just has technical problems.

Hi! English is my second language, so sorry about some mistakes!
I bought a V640I last Monday morning. In the afternoon phone didn't work. Phone reboots & reboots without stopping. I got it change twice during this week. The problem is still the same, the watchdog inside the unit makes it rebooting. On Thursday I went to Vodafone service. It took only one hour to make it work but after next day it becomes the same. Meanwhile I make the software update that is available on the Ericsson's site. No use! Problem is no SW version but in the Firmware version that is very well protected from intrusions. Remember that this is the place where Vodafone make the telephone blocked for is net. Next step is Sony Ericsson Service & the next is garbage!
Unless you want to spend some days going everywhere with it don't buy it. It looks good it works fine when it works but that is very rare! DO NOT BUY IT.

Top marks from me for this phone. I have had this phone for almost a month now & haven't had any problems with it. I bought the gold coloured one, didn't like the colour at first but now after I got used to it, I'd prefer it rather than the black one. As for features, it has everything I want in a mobile phone & I will have this phone for many years & certainly longer than a year. I have had around 20 phones in 8 years!
The music player sounds excellent with or without the speakers & with the headset. Only drawback in my opinion is that you cannot delete the preset demo games but as the phone can take up to a 4GB memory card that shouldn't be a problem. My partner got this phone too on the same day I got mine & he hasn't had any problems with it either & loves it!

Hi everyone, I have had this phone for about 4 months now & have had so many problems with it!
I initially found that the phone switched itself off & when it came on it had a blank screen & would not operate, so I went back to my network store & they took it away for a week & I ended up with a brand new handset, the problem could not be rectified. After 10 minutes of walking around town with my new phone I realised, it would not allow me to call anyone as when I tried it cut me off every time! Then I tried to change the background etc. & it still was turning off, unable to make calls, would not text etc. So I returned to the store AGAIN & AGAIN had to wait a week for yet ANOTHER NEW handset! I have had this one for a month & already it is having problems. For some reason it has stopped receiving or sending MMS, this my network has tried to sort out but it is still not working & when I change a name in the phone book it still comes up as the old name when calls or texts are received. Overall, I think this phone is very very poor & they have serious problems with it. Unfortunately pleased with it, however, this V640i is the worst phone I have EVER come across, apart from the fact that it looks good!
Hope this helps people not to make the same mistake I have!

Hello. First I am sorry if I make languages mistakes, I am French. I've got this phone last Saturday & I realized that he switched off (like Ginny) but as a matter of fact, it's not a bug or stuff like that. A seller explained to me that the phone is just updating & indeed, 2 days later it stopped switching off. Now it works very well & I think it's a good phone. So don't worry about that. Good bye.

I got it via Vodafone as an upgrade from Sagem 500 series, early days & still have not mastered the Bluetooth connection, so simple on the Sagem.
I have already accidentally transmitted private conversation without realising a call had been made. Slide or shell protection might have been a better bet for me. I will master phone lock today & reduce accidental connections. Camera is better than previous phones.
Most importantly of all the battery, standby & talk time reserves are way above average & 10 times better than my old phone. Familiarity will breed endearment.

Have just received my 2nd V640i Havana Gold in as many days & am now waiting for the 3rd to be delivered tomorrow! Overall the phone is great, colour is really nice (better than the basic black for a bloke) plenty of space for music - but the biggest pain is that IT KEEPS SWITCHING ITSELF OFF EVERY 30 SECONDS - If I don't have any luck with the 3rd one, I am going to try a completely different model!
