I have been using this phone since September2007. The camera is not as good as the 3 megapixels on other models. The lack of touch light is disappointing. I expect my phone to be a good companion at any time. Worse still, I cannot record my conversations during phone calls. I have used a K750 before. This feature is on the more options once your call is connected in the K750. It should have been included in the P1 too.

I have got a BlackBerry 8310 for personal use, but for work I use a P1, I Love the Blackberry! But I am warming to the P1, the wireless Active sync is AWESOME!
The reason my ratings aren't higher is because of the keyboard. I cannot stand it! From using the BB's then to go to the P1 they are miles apart! I imagine I would have got on with the P1's keyboard a little better if I hadn't used the BB for 6 months prior to using the P1. It drives me mad! But every other aspect the P1 is Great!

I have been honest with my percentages. I love it, the only Sony Ericsson I will ever buy, unless they can top the P1i.

The phone should be brilliant but it & its predecessor obviously have a fault in their software. It constantly locks up & I have to remove the battery to restart it. I will be changing it soon for a new model, probably not Sony Ericsson.

Previously from the mobile phone industry, I have always been anti Sony Ericsson. However, after much research, it seems like Sony Ericsson have done their homework with the P1i. Pity that there is no EDGE.

This is as always a very good phone from Sony with exceptional battery life it's just awkward to work, as is to write a text it involves about 6 button pushes just to get to the text page, this is similar with all functions compared to other makes top models. Apart from that it's a very good phone.

Bought this phone after reading the mainly good reviews.
Size & design looks good at first sight. It will take a while to get use to the button keys. End up using the stylus a lot, thus a 2 hand operation. Take awhile to understand the operation of the phone, not something that will get you going the moment you get it out of the box.
Screen may be big but difficulty reading the text, not sharp & bright.
Scroll & return buttons pretty stiff.
Battery drains off pretty fast.
Camera is a disappointment. So is the music player.
Basically if you expect this to be a fun & play phone, you will be disappointed.
I returned this phone after a day as I was expected an all rounded phone. Fun, work & play. : (

In this phone you can find everything what you need. But one think that is confusing me it is the keyboard, it's awful. The menu isn't bad for people who have using Sony Ericsson model phones. But the p models anyway better. But I want it & everyone who like Smartphone's wants it as well.

I am in a fit. Can someone please tell me if the flash on this phone works as torch light also? I stay in India where there are frequent blackouts. Is it the same for the W960i too? Please help.

The P1i has faults, but it is a good phone. Sony Ericsson make good mobile phones, & I usually buy them. Do Sony Ericsson realise that people who own Apple computers buy Sony Ericsson phones, not just people who own PC's. This question is one I've asked before, when are Sony Ericsson going to make it possible for Apple users to download & upgrade their phones.

Well. I definitely like Sony Ericsson more. I got this phone for weeks, the bad for me is I have to record voice tags for my voice recognition program, that's quite annoying because I have so many contacts in my phone book. My previous one is from Eten, the built-in voice commander works great! At least no training required :) Can Sony Ericsson hear my mind?

Design is compact compared to N95 or E90 which are on the hefty side. So this handset feels comfy in your jeans. But it looks best attached to a lanyard around your neck.
The features are rich but it does lack HSDPA, which is odd because other medium to low-end W series or K series phones have it like W580i or the K630i. So why hold out with the P1i? Another thing, it does have flash for taking photos but the LED light cannot be used as a flashlight. Which is stupid, since my other K series & W series phones have camera flash that work as a flashlight. The Wi-Fi is funny though, my house has 802.11g & the phone has 802.11b but it still works. No gripe there! The handset is advertised with a 512MB card but mine came with 1GB! Microsoft Office is only good for editing especially for Word because it doesn't accommodate header & footer on the handset among other features common to the PC application.
Usability is great depending on your genetics, it's difficult to use your fingers if you have plump fingers but it suits me just fine. That's referring to both the touch screen & the QWERTY pad. It works fine with many applications open, there's N-Series phone, but I have had Sony Ericsson phones before that include voice recording also. But the difference with this is that a previous voice recording can be continued with added recording, which is quite helpful.
Overall good phone.

I have inserted 2GB san disk memory card. I have completely filled the memory card with MP3 files. Now the music player takes more time literally 30 seconds to play any song. I am using a Nokia 5700 with 2GB memory filled completely but isn't giving me any problem.

A week since it arrived, I have installed & been using Fring (skype, MSN messenger, gizmo), mobyexploer (ftp client) via Wi-Fi & Tomtom navigator 6, Oxford concise dictionary.
A little disappointed in the lack of gps & the biggest upset is that the browser & built-in player don't support high quality video streaming (realplayer). Very stable so far & the speed is good, especially after un-branding, without which Fring doesn't work properly.

Very good phone, but stylish, too small. I think doesn't need QWERTY keypad if there are touch screen, just put QWERTY in screen. So the size can be smaller.

I think this is the most balanced smart phone available till date in India/Glob. Amazing! What a nice smart phone with all features you may be looking for a long time. YES! After a long way I found my dear PartnerOne (P1i). About one week back, I got it from Delhi with 22.5K including 1GB M2 Memory. Hope! This is a good price for an all-in-one phone as on date.
Most Liking : Battery life, 160MB RAM, 3.2MPix, Sound Quality, Smart design with excellent features, Most Popular Symbian OS, Types of Connections, Availability of 3rd party S/W, QWERTY keypad design (a little practice is required for easy use of keypad), Touch Screen, WLAN, excellent Performance & so on.
Most Disliking : Atlas! No GPS, Support only 802.11b WLAN, No EDGE/HSDPA, LED flash.
Anyway, still it is a leader if you consider all features. (Business + Multimedia + Camera). Waiting for: P5i with minimum 5MP, Xenon Flash, GPS, EDGE/HSDPA/802.11g/TV Out & So on, to beat others. Long life Sony Ericsson P series.

I have had the P1i for a few days now & I can confidently say it's a fantastic mobile for my needs. Compared to other smart phones:
After a few months of research I decided to bite the bullet & buy this phone instead of other smart phones in its class. If you are looking for a phone with a balance between multimedia & business features then this is it. I would say the two main competitors to this phone are the N95 & the E61i. The N95 beats both phones on multimedia features & the inclusion of GPS; the E61i beats both phones on business functionality (full QWERTY keyboard, good range of apps installed, battery life), however if you're looking for an all rounder then the P1i beats both.
Why I chose this phone:
The N95's cost, its battery life & lack of QWERTY was a big NO for me.
I wanted a phone with a QWERTY type keyboard with multimedia functionality but was also relatively small & didn't look like just another blackberry clone (like the E61i), the P1i has a little bit of both but also has the addition of a touch screen interface.
Another factor in my decision making process was the availability of the phone on a contract (helps ease the payment of the phone over a year), the E61i wasn't available on a UK talk plan direct from the major networks, the P1i was, so my choice was made for me.
Disadvantages:
I would say the interface may not be as easy to use for a non-techie as other smart phones, but I would put the choice input methods as an advantage not a disadvantage (although it's not good that on occasion sometimes you *have* to use multiple input methods). So far the handwriting recognition hasn't been that good (I prefer the QWERTY keypad anyway). Also I have had less success than the reviewer in using the business card scanning feature, with much of the text not translating.
The range of software available for the phone is good, but because it is built on the UIQ3 platform the range of software making specific use of the touch screen is more limited.
Finally, the P1i only supports 802.11b at the current time (maybe it will be updated to 802.11g with future firmware); even so it's not a big deal to configure most modern routers to support both standards.
Conclusion
The P1i phone is a fantastic phone for the person who loves multimedia features but also likes to check their emails, schedule their time, browse the net & occasionally edit a word document.
P.S. My phone came supplied from O2 with 512 megabytes memory card in addition to the 160 megabytes memory built in, which is pretty generous. However I bought a 2 gig memory card to store my audio books.

I'd have to say this is the best P phone ever released by Sony Ericsson. They have learnt from their previous failures that to be in a smartphone/Pocket PC market they do have to come up with something revolutionary & this time they have succeeded. I got mine yesterday after using a Windows based PDA for 14 months. I can say for sure that if you use MS windows at work or at home & on the phone your life just revolves around it & you are so used to doing a lot of cutting & pasting business that it just becomes a habit. But I don't have any regrets & will not be comparing the two as they are different. The amount of features that the P1 has got is just amazing. A fellow below reviewer wrote about the memory space, but hang on every one nowadays has an ipod & one would never get all their collection in a phone ever! So forget about that. The option of having the capability to increase the memory to 4 gig or even more is truly amazing. My personal fav is the business card scanner & the RDS in the FM radio. To be honest the phone is too good. It's not bulky like the other PDAs out there & can easily fit into your jeans pocket like a normal phone (no one will know that you are actually carrying a £500 phone/pocket PC!)
Apple should really come up with something fast in Europe than the poxy iPhone as people in Europe really know their phones & their capabilities. They can't be just fooled by looks & some gimmicks!
Sony Ericsson P1 all the way, I say!

The font size on the display is too small & I can't find a way to increase the size. The display is too dark in outside sunlight to see, although it is OK inside or in a car. The phone badly needs a joy stick to allow easier one hand operation. Twice the phone has frozen & I have had to take out the battery & re-boot.
Positives, the keyboard is relatively easy to use & the sound quality on calls is very good. It synchronises well with Microsoft Outlook.
It would seem that Sony Ericsson probably needs to update the software to iron out some problems. The Bluetooth works well through the car manufacturer installed application.

It is a good phone, sleek & with lot of function for office work but only one thing makes me to go for other phone that it is with stylus option which make your screen get damage immediately & also you need both hands for operating it. The functions are brilliant - Camera 3.2, screen 2.6, sleek, symbian (means lot of software).

Had one of these for 4 days & love it with only one exception: it's not easy to use in the car. My P990 was easy to use with the flip closed but the P1 doesn't have one & doesn't have the multi tap facility that the p990 does, making it easy to find a contact without looking.
However, the rest of the phone is fantastic & even the battery life is great.
Mine is unbranded as I bought it from Sony Ericsson so I don't know how much of a difference this makes but other than the car usability I'd give this phone a 10/10 review.

The phone can take more than 2GB, I have used it with 4GB as that's currently available from SanDisk. Liking the Push email facility. Great design, I think that the M600 should have had all of these features from the start. Well done Sony Ericsson can't wait to really put it through its paces.

It seems like this phone is geared to be a mini PC, it's also equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera, the only thing that bothers me is that if its geared to do some computer work, 160 megabytes of internal memory & a memory card slot up to 2 gigs won't just cut it. It should at least have 10 gigs of internal memory. Take a look at the W960i, it has 8 gigs of internal memory, mind you it's geared for music, which is why they need a lot of space for its music.
But for someone who will own a Sony P1, they are the ones who will really need more internal memory for they will download heaps of software in to their phones. I think the W960i would be a better call compared to a P1. Well that's just me, I guess some people will get the P1 for its QWERTY keypad & its looks, but it really won't serve its purpose if it doesn't have the capacity to store more. I own a Nokia N73 with a 2 gig memory card & I tell you 2 gigs is not that big. Maybe if they would invent a phone that has at least 3 memory slots that would be an awesome phone, imagine 32 gig cards in one phone, that would be handy for storing software, music, pics etc.

It seems to be an excellent phone. The camera which was not there in M600 has been given birth in this model. The design is also cool compared to M600 which was not as sleek compared to P1. The 3.2 megapixel camera is an advantage for the camera lovers, hope the camera technology in this phone is also same as the technology used in its W810i phone. I hope this phone will be mine soon :).
