I am very impressed with the phone. Handwriting recognition is great. Sometimes hard to turn off WAP but otherwise brilliant. Had phone 2 years now & the only problem is that the stylus won't stay in the phone anymore so I keep losing it!

I would LOVE to give a good review for this phone! The phone looks great, has a fantastic screen, & the functions are excellent & well planned. Sony have obviously listened to customer feedback & ironed out all the annoying glitches from the W810i. Unfortunately for technical faults that is irreparable!

I am now waiting for my third K850i to be delivered, that's three phones in a month! The first one crashed every time I turned the camera on, & the second one went mute in the middle of a business call, the internal mike had gone! I have a Nokia that is maybe 8 years old, has been dropped numerous times, & yet it still has a fully functioning mike! How can a mike go on a brand new mobile phone from a leading manufacturer, after only two weeks? !

At first glance this is a stunning looking phone. I have always preferred the candy bar style & the last few phones I have had have been Sony Ericsson's. I saw this one & for the price I thought it was brilliant & it is.

The screen size is fantastic & the sensitivity of the touch screen is very good (not overly sensitive like the LG chocolate or the Samsung e800)

The main problems & there are some are as follows

- I found the keyboard a little fiddly.
- the handwriting recognition is impossible to use.
- the MMS doesn't seem to work.
- Sometimes my SMS don't get through.
- Wish I had a camera.
- Sometimes hard to turn off the WAP.

The main fault though that drive me nuts is that it keeps freezing.

Overall a very good phone for the price but with a few annoying bugs.

If you are after a device for communicating, then this really is not it. In a nutshell, I wish I had opted for the Blackberry Pearl.

I have this handset on T Mobile (who, coincidentally, no longer sell it). It was great to start with, very functional & easy to use, but the problems slowly started. Within three months I was getting phantom alarms that I had not set going off all of the time. Additionally, the phone keeps hanging on me when you switch between tasks & it was also calling people when I had not interacted with it at all. After all of this, the touch screen dies as well. It was sent back to Sony to be repaired under warranty, & they replaced the buzzer, replaced the touch screen & upgraded all of the software.

This was great, but now just a few months after this it is starting to play up again with the same faults. Also, I cannot get the download for the software that works with Vista to work satisfactorily. The whole package stinks, as does the availability of spare stylus. However, this issue may just be with T Mobile as they were the only operator to offer the device in a unique two tone grey colour scheme.

BOTTOM LINE, it is rubbish. Save yourself the money & hassle & buy a Blackberry Pearly. They are great.

I own this phone & all I have to say is the phone is good. When I first bought I had a few problems of it hanging but I updated the firmware & it is perfect now, though it does hang after a few weeks but I don't have to remove the battery. The size of the phone is also not so bad & the only thing that lacks is a camera & Wi-Fi. But I guess this model was released to compete with Nokia's e60 & I have to say it is much better than the e60. Surfing the Internet is really great & the touch screen is making it more enjoyable. But this phone should not be regarded as a smart phone because it cannot fulfil my tasks. Worst thing is the dust can easily penetrate from the border of the phone's screen. Overall it's a phone worth buying if camera & Wi-Fi & radio not a priority.

What is the point of designing a PDA in which you want to have your inbox e-mail, but can't have folders contained within the inbox? Talked to tech support, they have no intention of fixing this problem.

- The hardware is great, good looking & strong.
- Software design, rubbish.
- Freezes from time to time. It can't handle too many things at the same time.
- No reception when other cheap phones have.

Overall: $500 of pure disappointment. Not such a smart phone after all.

My wife & I have the cheapest phones we can find & are happy. Our teenaged son searched the Internet to research the phone with everything he wanted. The Sony Ericsson M660i won his vote. He checked with AT&T & everything seemed compatible, so we bought it.

He's been thrilled except for one issue, he often gets no signal when our cheap phones have no problems. He's away for two weeks now & gets to use the phone for everything except calls & messages. I tried getting a better antenna & finally found the problem when I called Sony. This phone wasn't made for America. It uses three signals that are common in Europe. In many places in the US it can get a signal, but as I understand it, it doesn't use the strongest signal that American carriers offer. I wish we had been offered this information before we purchased the phone.

I really like this phone. I've had it for approx 6 months now. No real complaints. For me I feel that I have finally got a device that is both functional & well designed. Why do most other companies seem to have difficulty combining form & function? (Apple obviously noted this amongst other problems we've been putting up with for a long time from these phone manufacturers).

It doesn't do everything perfectly, but I am not really convinced that any device ever has or will, anyway.

Pros

- Screen, great for movies. Check out the conversion software. Great for Pictures & very clear. The size & touch screen makes it very useful for PIM functionality.
- Keyboard, if you know how to use a QWERTY keyboard you'll get used to it very quickly. For me this is by far the best way to input data.
- Design, clean, bold. There are no other phones that look like this. I like it very much.
- PIM, as a Smartphone/PDA very good. The applications work very well for me. My main applications being the calendar & notes.

Cons

- Screen, not so great in sunlight, even on full brightness.
- Battery, not so good. I usually have mine on 65% brightness, which seems to warrant a charge every 2 days.
- Speed, low, not very fast, when too many applications are open.
- Applications, my one has Documents to Go, which usually crashes when I run it.
- UI, some of those icons need the stylus, when the finger would be so much easier.

Overall a big thumbs up, but looking at it in detail:

The volume of the phone when used without the hands-free is quite low & makes it nearly impossible to use the phone when in a noisy environment. With the hands-free it's not a problem.

The scroll wheel is sometimes tricky to use due to the little ridge next to it. There would have been enough space on the phone to have two more buttons, to accept/make & end calls. These are now part of the touch screen & not always visible when during a call the calendar is used.

Operations can be a bit slow sometimes but anyone who does not have a second to wait for the screen to open needs to go on a time management course, so I do not see it as a problem.

Battery life could be better. I need to charge every night & depending on the number of calls even during the day.

The keys are fantastic, much better than having a normal keypad with a number, 3 letters & more on the same key. It takes about two SMS to get the right letter every time.

I don't miss a camera as I have a proper one, though why the phone comes with image editing software remains a mystery.

The screen is nice & clear but can be a bit difficult to see in bright conditions & I don't understand why the brightness can only be adjusted to 90% or 50%.

What can one say that has not been said, I do feel that the 'jog dial' is poor as when one uses the phone with one hand I tend to drop the thing so not a good idea & the lack of a camera one feels was a cost cutting measure & will have an effect on sales, & the usage time is very poor indeed yet it is usable but I think Sony need to move with the times & make this a true PDA/PHONE as I feel as I type they are fitting a camera & removing that 'cog wheel', mind you one dropped the one has down 4 flights of stairs & it still functions so 10/10 for the stairs test. 3/10 for my head.

This is a decent phone for people on the go.

The email ability is excellent as per usual Blackberry devices, & the rest of the phone works incredibly well.

There are some features that I think shouldn't have been omitted though. The phone has an excellent image editing application (as far as phones go) but has no camera for you to take pictures with. That's a real shame in my book. Another thing that bugged me was that after trying to paste a picture of my girlfriend on the wallpaper, it would always turn the image 90 degrees. A rotate function in the wallpaper screen would've benefited from this, as the rotate in the image editor had no effect on the way the wallpaper was displayed.

Also, there is no selection module on the face of the phone, & the jog-dial is a poor substitute. Using the phone one handed is difficult.

Still, don't let the bad points I have raised put you off. The rest of the phones features work brilliantly, & to be honest, coming from a p910i user, I actually prefer the M600i as it is a hell of a lot lighter & smaller.

Reasons to buy this phone:

If you're a professional
If you like to email & text
If you are Style over substance
If you are into the WWW
Would like a PDA & a phone together

Reasons to steer clear of this phone:

If you like to take pictures
If you're using it for entertainment purposes
If you are big on customising your phone

This phone is probably the best phone I've ever used. I watched Casino Royale, saw the phone & I knew then that it was a phone I'd like to use, subject to checking out its features.

Design wise, I have to say that Sony Ericsson hit the nail on the head. A bold & radical design that is truly inspired. Yes, I'll admit that several people have complained about its software, but Sony Ericsson have fixed most of its issues with the latest release (January 2007) of the M600i software on the Update Service. I updated my phone even before I used it, so I haven't at all experienced any of the software issues that the phone supposedly has. I've used the W950i too & I'll also admit that [its] software seems faster & more responsive.

The OS is a dream & on 3G, the issue of lack of WLAN connectivity is quickly forgotten. The keypad was a bit clumsy at first, but in less than a day, I mastered it.

With the Walkman feature, the W950i should be the better of the two phones, but the keypad of the M600i gives it an advantage over the W950i - an advantage I'd choose over the Walkman features of the W950i. Why? I'd choose messaging & email ease over & above having a sleek Walkman in my phone any day!

Great phone, but one problem I am having is that when I hook up to my PC via the USB lead, the bottom toolbar of my PC reads m-router connected, m600i connected when in phone mode, because I want to download music & pictures I have to disconnect the lead from my phone go into tools, connections, USB & then change the settings to file transfer, you cannot do this when the USB lead is connected, when I re-connect the lead my PC keeps telling me that no phone is connected ! I still cannot use disc2phone! This is very frustrating & at present I am still waiting for a response from Sony Ericsson. Why do all the best Ericsson phones have limited game download options from say your service provider or Sony themselves?

The worst phone I have ever had. Very poor battery life, many problems & bugs, from not being able to access sms' to freezing. Far too fiddly, & slow to get it to do any thing. I like a phone that doesn't ask me too many questions when I want to get it to do something, like make a call. I hate using it, & it often lets me down when I really need it. I have since bought an old Nokia which I carry as back up. Also you can forget about using it outside on a sunny day as the screen is unreadable. I hate it & only still have because Sony Ericsson will not swap it for a cheaper simpler phone. Their service has been very bad indeed & I will never buy any of their phones again for this reason alone. It does however look great, but that is about it.

I'd generally like to echo the sentiments of the positive reviews above, & also take the opportunity to balk at comments like 'no outbox' & 'bad handwriting recognition', which I have difficulty understanding. So, broadly, good phone. But I'd like to rant for a moment about Sony Ericsson's lack of attention to user-friendly design in the supporting software.

My phone has a bug where it gives an annoying 'access denied' message & won't let me read certain SMSs. I am hoping to fix the bug by updating my software. So, I download the updater that for some reason the boys figured they couldn't put on the CD. It gives me some cryptic message about 'invalid Macromedia version', which I fix after some googling - it's called Flash, guys. Macromedia have a lot of products. How about you give the novice users a URL to get the installer & not just stonewall them?

I begin the update process. The application crashes the first time, but then starts up the second. Apparently, in order to update my phone, I have to perform a lengthy procedure. I have to remove my SIM card, put my battery back in, & hold the 'C' button while plugging in the USB cable.

First, why? Why, in 2006, does updating my phone require the kind of procedure that people used to have to perform to set the time on their VHS machines in the late eighties? Second, why does removing the SIM card have to be an exercise in clumsy-fingered frustration? Put it somewhere where I don't have to spend thirty seconds wrestling with it & trying to ease it out with my stylus because I don't have any tweezers & my fingers just can't get in there. Why do so many manufacturers screw up on that? & third, there is no C button on this phone, geniuses. But I can't imagine how many non-tech-savvy businessman will push 'C' on the Qwerty keyboard, which doesn't seem to work. I assume they mean the equivalent of a cancel button on this phone - the back button on the side. That worked for me, anyway.

The phone detection fails the first time & I have to retry. Once it succeeds, & I say, yes, yes, I would like to update - it tells me 'Do you have a backup of your phone? You really shouldn't do this otherwise, because the entire phone will be wiped'. So, another few questions for Sony Ericsson's engineers, their developers, their QA department, & anyone else who'll care to listen: first, why? Why on earth do you need to wipe my settings to update my phone? When I update my BIOS - which is a more primitive device, to be sure - I don't lose my settings. & why, why, why do you tell me that I need the backup halfway through the update process where I've already performed this ridiculous SIM-card-removal-hold-C procedure, & will now have to do it in reverse, & then do it again?

So, I go back my phone up. Predictably, it fails with a cryptic, unintelligible error message, so I just back up my contacts & my SMSs, which works. I now go & perform the update procedure again (it's actually about the eighth time, since this isn't as easy to figure out as it sounds), & it finally actually works. The backup restore is thankfully painless - though I have to turn the phone on to restore my settings, which involves going through a setup wizard that I have no desire to go through.

Moral of the story? Small things, guys, small things. Small successes & victories & 'it just works'es make happy users - go ask your UI designers. They know, because they've made a fantastic phone with that principle in mind. The bug is now fixed. But I should have been able to do that without tearing my hair out & almost marching out & buying a Nokia (the horror). & I shouldn't be dreading the next update, where backing up will become more difficult as my phone gets more full, & I'll have to do the stupid sim-card-hold-C thing just for the application to tell me 'there are no new updates'. Get with it.

The rest of you: great phone.

Of all the phones I've used in the in the smart phone area (mostly series 60) I can quite happily say this has been the most enjoyable, polished & stable phone I've used. Has not crashed or frozen on me once in 2 1/2 weeks so far. For me this phone fits like a glove in use & design.

My right hand in business. Fast e-mail, the safe-box of different files, including documents & pictures, perfect agenda, alarms, sensor screen for writing SMS & music files for relaxing. What else? Ideal position in the hand. Thanks a lot for Sony Ericsson!

Pretty good at most things, but note that the following features do not work at time of writing. You can't backup data on phone to your PC. You can't use the phone as a modem for your PC. You can't use your PC as a modem for the phone. You can't set your choice of browser home page. You can't delete unwanted browser bookmarks.

I've been a Sony Ericsson fan ever since I got my P910i. The one big flaw with that phone was that the camera was not so good.

It was bulky in size too, not a major issue on its release but in a year where phones have been getting ever slimmer, the P910i was beginning to look & feel like a bit of a brick.

A lot feel that the replacement P990i missed the mark by reducing the screen size, a backward step in most P910i owner's opinion. Professional users also feel that the P990i has a "friendlier but less businesslike" facade to it.

Enter the M600i. This is a real professional business tool, & in terms of looks alone it is in a class of its own. Forget the camera, this handset isn't for kids who want phones with gadgets. It's the smartest looking phone I have ever seen, it instantly makes you feel more important whenever you pick it up. It's a work of art.

Functionality: It does what it says on the tin. And it does it very well. It's quick & intuitive, & the Opera browser is excellent as is the very responsive touch screen. That's as much as you can ask. I have had no problems at all.

The music player is excellent, with a good selection of equalizer presets although I would have liked to have seen a user-definable option too. You have to go into the menus to change the equaliser settings too, it should be a little easier than this especially with touch screen functionality on tap.

The QWERTY keypad is a novel idea, with the number keys in the middle & a full QWERTY keyboard spread across 15 keys. There are four more keys below, including a large centrally placed space bar on the zero key.

An ALT key switches you to QWERTY mode when typing a message for example, & there are two letters on each key; e.g. the first key has the letters Q & W. Rock the key left for Q, right for W. The keys are rather small & this looks as though it will be fiddly to use but in practice after a couple of days I found it remarkably easy to use. I'm not convinced by the handwriting recognition feature but there's always the on-screen keyboard, although this is smaller than on the P910i & will test your eyesight at the end of a busy day.

Criticisms: Nothing enough to put me off, the "back" button on the left hand side of the unit is useful but there doesn't seem to be a "Home" button which would be useful. The design means it's not the easiest handset to hold firmly comfortably when on a call & a silicon sleeve would be a good investment for a little extra. A desk cradle would have not been too much to ask for a handset at this end of the market & is a glaring omission. Everything else you need is included though.

Overall opinion: It looks the part & does the business. But for me the design alone is worth the asking price if you buy the black version. I'm a jeans-and-T-shirt type of guy but this phone makes me feel like I should be wearing a suit & driving an Aston Martin. Stunning piece of kit.

I used to be a NOKIA fan, but I have exchanged my NOKIA E60 to this little wonder. The m600i is a great phone, except for the battery. I use a Bluetooth headset in the office, while driving, & at home. In 2 days nothing is left in the battery. E-mail solution, WEB capability, sound, & picture quality are just great. No camera, sorry but I don't care, I'm taking pictures with Canon 30D, so I don't need a camera in my phone.

It's a great phone. Slim, simple clear design. The camera isn't necessary for me, but the touch screen is definitely needful. The polyphonic voice is crystal clear. The TFT display is beautiful, but it isn't be visible when the sun is pin on the screen. The battery is charged very fast, during 1-1, 5 hours. The battery life is 2 days, when I use a lot, but it's ascend 4-5 days on standby mode. The UIQ 3.0 software is fast, don't freeze. The wap browser under GPRS network is enough fast. If the Vodafone configuration (build) the 3G network in Debrecen, Hungary, it's still faster browse.

Great phone!!!

Another good phone from leading Sony Ericsson. It is a 3G data only & is not capable of video calling, its main purpose of 3G is the high speed data access that 3G has to offer. It could be improved with a camera though.

I think the m600i is a great mobile communication & data device for the business person on the go. I am looking forward to have one in the soonest possible time. Being an entrepreneur I often find myself out of the office; thus this virtual POCKET OFFICE is a great solution. Best of all, it is not bulky, & easy to slip into my jeans pocket. I wish it had a wifi capability so I don't have to use the 3G connection when I'm in the office; well at least while the use of 3G comes at a significantly different cost.

Kudos to the design team of SE m600i! Hope you could get the wifi into the design soon. Thanks. Joel lee

The keys are too small so you continually have to make corrections. The handwriting recognition just can't recognise an 'i' or a 'k'. The battery life is awful it only lasts for about 2-3 hours if you are making calls. The WAP application takes priority over calls so prevents incoming & outgoing calls. It's a great toy but if you want a phone for business or heavy usage I would give it a miss.

This 3G touch screen mobile phone is a rather compact considering all the capabilities that come inside the perfect formed casing. I was looking at getting the Sony Ericsson P990i but now I have seen this I think it suits my requirement better than the P990i & I prefer the look of the M600i. It comes with very large screen, a dual function keypad & I will be able to email whenever I wish. The design of the M600i is extremely slim & very attractive for such a great business tool.

Sony Ericsson M600i sounds great, would love a 3G phone & a phone that I can use more as a business phone. It may make my life a little easier to have a phone with some good business tools incorporated. The organiser feature would be very beneficially to me & the email sound very easy to use. The Internet would be a great features to have & I would use it almost continuously during my working day. I feel this phone would be great for all my needs & it comes in a very stylish casing. Look forward to see this phone & hopefully getting it.
