Does anyone know if this phone has a torch function as the old Sony Ericsson k750i had one? Please let me know as the torch function came in handy many a times? I am thinking of purchasing a k800i thanks.

The phone itself is great, I have dropped it a few times & it works as new no problems, I use the phone extensively, the only down fall I find with the phone & that is when you want to send text messages the keys are not user friendly, so can't text as fast like on a Nokia where the keys are smoother. That is why I have put 30% other than that it is a really great phone. I have had my phone now around a year & the joystick works fine, & all other aspects are great, takes good photo's! It is a little heavy.

Wicked phone, does everything well. Two problems are the camera keeps going off & at times goes on the Internet as the button for it is at the front. Would recommend it.

I am known for having a mobile & basically never using it! I bought the K800i at Christmas for its cyber shot camera as much as anything else.
The joystick would stick, random keys stopped working! Took it back to the O2 store to be told it would have to go for repair. I am not HAPPY bunny. This phone has hardly had any use. I still have over £3 of the original £10 top up.
Oh & yes the lens cover is a pain too. Oh dear Sony. Have you missed the mark on this one?

Turned it on, inserted SIM card etc then the screen went blank except for the following message please wait. Seven hours later I am still waiting & cannot use any of the functions. Arrangements in hand for a replacement, possibly a Nokia.

I am back LOL. Thanks to Dave from Reading UK for the response to my problem.
Sony Ericsson are BAD FOR HANDLING REPAIRS. I sent the phone off for repairs about a week after I posted on here & I only got the phone back 2 WEEKENDS AGO after saying they would have it for a maximum of 10 days. They had to be prompted to send the phone back.
I called up Sony Ericsson's support line [for about the millionth time, no joke] & asked for the status of my repair & gave the guy on the line the reference number I was given. His response? he wouldn't tell me the status because I, myself, the owner of the phone WASNT ALLOWED TO KNOW the STATUS OF MY PHONE'S REPAIR, my reference number WASN'T REAL.
I was given a new reference number & after calling & letter writing & receiving, one telling me that the phone would NOT be replaced because of 'unauthorized repair' which was NOT true. The phone had never encountered problems before & had not needed to be sent for repairs at all, this was the first time it ever needed some sort of maintenance done to it. The phone had NOT exceeded warranty, & can be replaced. We were then sent a letter saying the phone would be 'environmentally disposed of' because we hadn't responded to any contact they had made, not true, we paid for it to be sent back & were told it would be a week or two. My dad paid through debit card & gave his details over the phone I shall add, & we waited. Nothing.
My dad called up again to check & was told that 'we don't accept card payment from your card provider'. You wait 2 WEEKS TO TELL US THIS? It's unlikely, but his details could have been passed on somewhere. He paid AGAIN & we were promised a next day delivery. We got the phone nearly a week later.
I called up Sony Ericssons support line the day we got the phone back & was apologized to & said that what I had told them sounded 'very strange' & was I sure I was 'talking to the support line? ' I told him the address & he was able to tell me the status of my repair & that it been sent home & I said 'yes, 3 months later' & I asked what had been so wrong that they couldn't replace the phone, & I was told? A Bluetooth component had been 'removed'. I had never even heard of the component & didn't even know what it did. Pretty lame reason not to replace the phone eh?
I told them I felt cheated, betrayed & upset at the service I received. However, this is just MY experience, but if you had the same problem, don't trust Sony Ericsson.
I hope you like my life story, but I feel you guys should know.

The phone is alright & easy to use but it can get a little confusing when trying to find a certain function. The size is alright but it's a little on the heavy size. The screen size is perfect & the colours are great. It has everything a user needs & requires.

Do not be tempted to buy this phone! I am on my third handset in four months. The first had problems with the software, the second had a broken joystick, the third lasted an entire 8 weeks before the joystick broke. I now have to wait four weeks for the thing to be repaired!
I like the features. The design of the sliding lens cover ensures lots of pictures of the inside of your pocket & a depleted battery. Treating the phone with anything less than TLC will result in spontaneous failure. Be warned. Stay clear!

I used to use Samsung but since I had the k800i I wouldn't go back. I found the Samsungs boring as not enough features on them & cameras were not very good. The camera on this phone for 3.2 mega pixel is very good. It takes good quality pictures & very easy to use. I take all my pictures with my phone as I find the quality of the pictures very good. The entertainment features are also good with the games & music dj etc. I always find myself playing with something on the phone. I do have problems with the navigation button as it sometimes get stuck & I cannot the move around the menu screen but other than that it is a good phone & one of the best I have used. Recommended!

If I had this phone on a decent network it would be one word, perfect.
If there is one downside to this phone is the video camera which to say the least is honking. How it manages to call itself a videophone is quite beyond me.
But other than that the phone is magic, absolutely magic!

I really like this phone, it's the best I've had. On the downside it is quite chunky & the camera does stick out a bit too much on the back.
I sent mine back to 3 to get repaired as the on button stopped working, the joystick wouldn't go up or right, the c button didn't work, the right selector button didn't work, the events button didn't work, the hash & the very top right button for viewing pictures didn't work.
I texted someone & left the phone for a couple of hours, & went to the cinema, took the K800i out of my pocket to put it on silent, & all the button listed above didn't work, bizarre. 3 were great, fast repair. All the work was done in 4 days.
I have a 2GB memory card in mine, which the phone supports really well. I am getting an upgrade in September 2008, probably go for the Nokia 6500, I would choose this again but it's just a wee bit too big.
Nice big clear screen. Great quality camera. Decent music player. I found the software that came with it rubbish. It was too slow, & it kept freezing whenever I used it. So I removed it from my computer & now I plug the phone in via the USB & use the memory card like it is a removable disk. Works much better & faster.
So, all in all, good usability, good features & a good phone. Just a bit on the big side.

At first glance, this is a great phone, a bit blocky looking, but comes with a great camera, good range of features & all the rest. I'd have kept with it, except that the battery life was average at best (100% charge at noon one day, 20% remaining at 5pm the next, with hardly any use) & the keys are a bit fiddly for anyone with larger hands!
Other than that, a nice phone, good range of features, but loses out on practicality ultimately.

I have had this phone for over 15 months & stills works as well as the day I bought it. I have dropped it about a million times & it has never broken! The battery life is amazing, lasts for about 4 days. I am now reluctant of upgrading after reading all the negative reviews about every single phone.

Overall phone is easy to use. I have always been a Nokia user but found the switch over easier than I imagined. Camera function is good with some useful features. However the design of the camera lens cover is to say the least poor. Have also had to exchange the handset twice due to the same fault occurring, namely the sound in the headset just goes to a very, very low level. Both times my network agreed to exchange with no quibble when they were told of the nature of the fault. Made me think they were aware of this problem in the handset!

Well I have had this phone coming up to 2 years now. Well I had to have this phone first replace because the first one I had froze when I connected it to the computer. There are a few problems with the phone
- the joy stick freezes after a while.
- the buttons coating starts to come off after a few months.
But overall this phone is the best phone I have had so far! After I have had my Samsung SGH G800 or the U900 soul.
- the camera is really good with excellent flash.
- the screen is strong & firm.
- Volume of music is not that great.
Overall I would give this phone 7 out of 10.

Had this phone since Christmas, many problems!
- Joy stick freezing causes major problems.
- Phone switching itself off all the time.
- Not at all loud, very quiet, headphones help slightly.
- It is quite a chunky phone.
- Camera lens broken as it needs to be slide open all the time.
If your thinking of getting this phone keep all this in mind, I am going to swap mine for a Nokia 6300 which I heard is a lot more reliable.

It's a great phone except the only fault I would have is it's a bit chunky but I got the hang of that. The camera is the best I have ever had for a phone & there's also lots of stuff you can do with the pictures. I would recommend this phone to everyone, except kids who's hands are too small for the phone.

My main problem with this phone was the music player, no mega bass which really is just rubbish & also the phone is not loud at all, the joystick also kept on getting stuck & the phone had tendency to switch itself off, I much prefer my D750I, W810I, W850I & K850i all have mega bass & are loud when playing music through the speakers & do not switch themselves off & the joystick (D750i) never had a problem with it. The D750i & K850i I feel still produce more bass than the other two through headphones which I love.

I gave this phone a poor usability percentage as it is truly bad! I was really happy with the K750i I had for over a year, but when Virgin offered me an upgrade I decided to jump at the chance, my first foray was into the W880i. It was cute but very RED, & very flash, & not much bang (call & functionality wise for my buck). Frankly I am not that into listening to a 'Walkman', so I sent it back & opted for the K800i. I really wanted the K810i as my brother in law has it & I've heard good things from friends & on the Internet, but Virgin doesn't carry it so I decided to go for the K800i. Here's something that shouldn't really come as a surprise, It's built like a BRICK! It's huge & makes a far from discreet bulge in a pocket. However, I convinced myself that all would be well, & was willing to make the most of it. & then the battery kept dying. It requires a charge EVERY NIGHT! The joystick periodically refuses to move & respond at all for no apparent reason & it's constantly trying to connect to the Internet. I really was hoping for the best as I really loved my K750i & found the joystick, functionality & pictures to be satisfactory. I really can't say the same for the K800i (pictures fantastic. Phone overall rubbish for the money). Save yourself some bother, if you're looking (like me) for an attractive, slim phone, with a decent camera, good text & call capabilities, & an attractive look. Search elsewhere. This phone really isn't it & don't get me started on the fact that the camera cover slides off in your pocket, in your hand when you're making a call, in your bag, if you look at it sideways. Thumbs down. A disappointing 45% recommendation based solely on my loyalty to Sony Ericsson & nothing to do with this phone.

Complete rubbish! Had this phone now for 6 months & taken it back twice, swapping it for a different one now though because its broken again.
Its slow, crashes all the time, people keep trying to ring me & send text & it doesn't come through, the camera has started turning green all the time, I could go on forever but the truth is this is the only phone I have had to take back after just 15 days & I have never started looking for a new phone 6 months after getting a new one.
However the features are good & when it does work the camera is really good just a shame about the overall quality of the phone.

I got one of these for Xmas & it's been a great phone so far, I bought a 1GB card for music & high resolution pictures taken with the great camera onboard, I can plug the phone into my amplifier in the house & play music, I can have it hands-free through my car stereo with my adapter, the keyboards a little bit fidgety but all the other features make up for that, when I text with this phone the side of my finger I am holding the phone with always presses the camera start button, so it should have really been placed up a bit on the side of the handset to prevent that, & other peeps here are right about its chunkiness but it's a good solid phone rather than the Moto L6 which is very flimsy, would have been nice to see the K800i being as slim as the Moto L6, I have heard from other people that bought this phone about 8 months ago that it eventually slows down taking its time to access menus etc, defragmenting the memory card would probably solve that problem.

I had this phone for Christmas & overall I think that this is a great phone. I was undecided between this phone & the Samsung D900, as my previous phone was a Samsung & I had no problems with it. I didn't like the sound of the touch buttons on the Samsung, however, which made me eventually decide on the K800i. When I first got the K800i I was worried that I might have made the wrong decision, but after a few days of owning this phone I realised that I'd made the right one, think I'd have been unhappy with the D900 now.
I really like the camera on this phone, it takes great pictures & they can be easily transferred onto my PC. I love taking pictures & it's good that I don't have to worry about taking my digital camera everywhere. The video camera isn't such good quality, however, but I am not really bothered about that. As others have mentioned, the camera cover does have a tendency to slide open when in my bag, but a phone case has sorted this problem out for me.
It's a shame that this phone didn't come with a memory card, as other Sony Ericsson's seem to, so I had to purchase one of these separately. Transfer of files from my PC to the phone is really easy.
I did find the joystick annoying at first, & it took some time getting used to it, but I am now having no problems with this.
Overall, this is the best phone that I have had & I would definitely recommend this phone.

Great phone, had to buy as old Sony gave up the ghost after 2 years. Camera good, though the sliding lens cover is a bit of a pain at times, really sharp pictures so no complaints there. At first texting is a little tricky as the keypad is small & buttons are very close together, you also have to hit the keys pretty hard as well.
This is now my third Sony Ericsson phone & I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
Battery life is pretty good too, if you don't use it all that often battery stays charged for 3 to 4 days.
All in all a very good phone!

This is a brilliant phone, but I had to take it back when I brought it a few times as the joystick was sticking. But still Nokia are the best phones.

An absolutely awesome phone, not only does it meet the needs of the everyday phone holic it adds a bit of style as well. The only bad side to the phone is that it's slightly on the large size.

Had this phone for 16 months & has been in the repair shop twice! Joystick keeps sticking & now camera won't work (try to open camera & refuses to launch, get error message telling me another application is running & needs to be shut down. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE OPEN! ). Very frustrating as the camera on this phone is absolutely amazing. Video recording is a bit dodgy though.
Never did manage to master the MP3 player & radio is patchy. Also messaging now seems to be going on the fritz. I think it's reaching the end of its well used life.
It is however built like a brick & is a little on the heavy side. I am now upgrading to a Samsung G600 but based on reviews read so far I am not sure this is the right move! We will see.

I just got this phone on Saturday after a couple of months deciding on a new phone, the thing that irks me is that sometimes when flicking through the menu when going to the right it sometimes takes two or three pushes of the analog stick thing for it to move. It's also a bit big & bulky but I can live with that as it mean s when I drop it it's more likely to survive the fall. For those complaining about the lens cover in your pockets, I think someone else mentioned it but you can get a transparent plastic cover for it & that stopped it for me. I'll probably review again after 6 months or so after I've had more time to get used to it, find faults etc.

This really is a great little phone. I have had mine for a year now, & it's still running fine. I am due for an upgrade with Vodafone, but after looking around at some of the other newer phones I can't seem to find one that has all the features of the K800i. It's either all Walkman phones or all camera, whereas the K800i has both. So I've decided to get another K800i, maybe in silver if it's available.
The camera is just great, which takes superb photos as well as videos. You can edit the pictures (change colour, brightness) on photo DJ & also trim & add sound tracks to videos on video DJ. The software for your PC is simple to install, & whenever you want download photos from your phone onto your PC (or music & pictures from your PC to your phone) you simply connect the phone with the USB cable & it's as simple as that.
The phone is compact & fits in my small handbag. Sometimes the little lens cover on the back slides open but this is better than having no lens cover at all & the lens getting scratched. Plus you can always buy a case for the phone to stop this happening (I have a little woolly sock which costs £3 from HMV! ). After some time the joy stick becomes less sensitive, & the numbers on the keys fade a bit, but I am sure this is true of all well used phones.
From now on I am sticking with Sony, they are reliable, full of fun features, easy to use & look great.

It's a great phone. I had two problems with it though, firstly for some reason it doesn't hold any records of calls made to or made from the phone. All I know is that I deleted one of miss called records & after that it doesn't hold any record anymore. Second problem I have had is when I disconnect it from my PC it restarts twice (kind of looks as if it has crashed).Other than that it's all good.

Well I am on my third one of these things. I had a 750i & that worked for a long time till the joystick got problematic. The k800i appealed as a successor. Well wrong, my original crashed occasionally until one day it wouldn't come start. Now Number 2 has gone west with a seemingly random selection of keys not working. Each phone lasted a few months only. The aesthetics of the K800i are not good (it looks like a set disparate parts bashed into a candy bar) & it is too heavy. & of course no one likes the lens cover, or the slightly proud Internet key.
Categorically, avoid. I am no Sony hater & I bought 2 of the 750i for my teenage kids last year as I liked its predecessor.
Sorry, the k800i has completely blown my confidence in Sony Ericsson. They must be pretty unrealisable based on the probability of 1 person have two faulty handsets.
Hopefully my company will swop out the temporary 800i I have at the moment. Bye bye Sony Ericsson.

Had this phone 16 months & thinking of upgrading but reviews on new camera phones are disappointing. I dropped this phone in a cup of tea (Tetley) last September & it is still going strong! The camera was a bit squelchy for 4 weeks but now as good as ever. Great phone, great camera. Upgrade? But what to?

I have had this phone for a week & what can I say it's a world class phone one of the best phones I have ever used, can't get enough out of it. Every time I use it, it has something new to offer. The camera is good quality 3.2 megapixel & has a xenon flash. The playback quality is also very good in all it a good mobile to get your hands on.

Phone is fine it looks great I do like it, perhaps a bit too small for big fingers & weak eyes. Ring tones too few & too quiet could do with up to 12 plus repeat rings for those times when it is stuck in bottom of bag or otherwise hard to locate. Biggest criticism is not of the phone but the absolutely rubbish software CD for connecting to computer. The Sony Ericsson disc has destroyed my CD slot. I can no longer use it to play or burn off to disc or transfer music to my iTunes. It seems to have done something, I don't yet know what, to the CD drivers. I've now got to find if I can download something from Sony website. GGRRRRR!

As a camera this is really good, plenty of features & excellent quality. Like all cameras it needs to be held very steadily, I am now trying out holding it up close to my eye & looking over the top as a view finder & because of its wide angle lens the results are great but I revert back to the screen for close up pictures.
As a phone it's a great but most are. I had my first K800i silver one for ten months before letting my son have it just to shut him up, & got a new one. It appears to have slightly more internal memory & had one freeze of the keys which was cured by a restart. For those who find the camera lens cover opening in their pockets get a transparent plastic cover from Amazon for 1 pence but a lot of postage & it also protects the screen. It is worth looking after & I can't see as yet a better phone with this quality of camera. I generally use a Pentax digital SLR with a lot more megapixels but on small & not so small prints its hard to tell the difference. So get one while you can before they stop producing them.

The K800i is a great phone, clearly designed by someone who puts practicality & functionality first. I'd heard good things about this phone long before I'd even bought it but I was still impressed when I first used it, the camera is great, it has an MP3 player which can play your CD's if uploaded from your computer, the only grumble that I have with it is the size of the memory & Vodafone's price of the SD mini memory sticks, (£70 for the 4GB stick) but I quickly found some others on play com for a little over £20 which work perfectly. Great phone.

I have just got this phone. This phone is the best ever Sony Ericsson phone. It has a got everything MP3, flash, easy to use etc. The only thing I would change is by converting the phone to a flip then it would totally rock. Apart from that it is an outstanding piece of technology. I hope this review has helped you.

Had this phone a week now & what can I say. Absolutely marvellous! Had the K750i for over a year & was well happy with that but as you do you go for a change. No regrets whatsoever. Love the larger screen & just like the K750i everything is pin sharp. A few people have mentioned the small Internet button on the top left of the phone being caught quite easily, I do see what they mean BUT so far touch wood I haven't caught it once! If you've got stubby fingers (which I have) texting can be a bit more difficult than the K750i but so far I am getting along just fine with it. Camera quality is top class! Video, ummm. It's OK. The phone has loads of features & it's great to see (as usual with Sony) you can put your own message tone on, Samsungs don't do that hee! Hee! Sound quality is superb. Where Sony Ericsson falls flat with this phone is the fact they don't supply an M2 memory card as part of the package. Not good customer relations that. Hunt around on the net (such as Amazon) & you can get a 1GB original Sony one for £11 (I did) & that includes p&p! Argos will quite happily charge you £34.99 for exactly the same card! Pays to shop around as they say. Some people have mentioned they've had problems with the software, I can honestly say mine has been fine. Transferred loads of pictures & music on to the phone without one hitch. Perhaps this was a problem with the earlier models? the phone is chunky that is true but it feels really solid & well made. It's not that heavy as some people have said, to be honest I prefer a phone with a bit of weight to it anyway. Some phones out there are incredibly flimsy! To sum up then, a fantastic phone (so far) & would thoroughly recommend anyone thinking of getting one not to think anymore. Do it. Get one. NOW!

I have a k800i I brought it about 1 week ago. The design is unusual with the stick in the middle. To make a call & take a picture even an idiot could do it! It has a standard 60Mb memory. The camera is fantastic, the image stabilising is 100% (I would say the whole camera is better than a Sony digital hand held) also it has a 3.2 Mega pixel lens. The features are brilliant I particularly like the face warping you can do with your photos.

I bought my Sony Ericsson K800i last Easter & I have to say it works great after about 9 months. The camera is though nothing to scream HURRAY for but it's much better than on the good old Sony Ericsson K750i which I had too. The Macro function is what I best like about the phone (or the camera) but taking wide angle nature view pictures is not what you want to do with this one IF you're going to print it out.
The music player is great. & I have a stereo HBH SD970 (if I remember right) Bluetooth headset that I really like. I'll stay with Sony Ericsson for next few months at least.

Camera is high quality, even when taking quick photos. Auto focus & flash.
Music player works well, you really need a memory card if you want to have music on here. Playlists can be made. Speaker is very loud, headphones are included & are used to pickup radio stations & can be used for hands-free.
Infra Read & Bluetooth both work very well.
Menus are quick & easy to use, 4 shortcuts can be made for the up, down, left, right movements of the joystick.
Games are downloadable, some included & some can be played via Bluetooth with friends.
Memory is fine if you are only taking photos, memory card is needed if you want a lot of music.
Bad points, after a year the keys start to lose their top coating & the joystick sometimes doesn't want to work, I am guessing it's a dust issue. Other than that I have had no problems with this phone but I am needing a new one because of the joystick issue (the phone is currently 1 year & 2 months old).

Fantastic phone. I've mainly had Nokia's before but changed to Sony Ericsson because of a dud Nokia.
The phone has a great camera, easy text messaging & is generally very user friendly. There is plenty of scope for expanding the phone's memory via a card although, as usual with Sony products, they don't like to share their technology & you end up paying through the nose for their exclusive brand of memory card (sense my further rage at the current blu ray situation).
I have had a couple of problems with the phone, a massive software failure being one. Another would be the pictures failing to unscramble on preview & thus unable to upload on PC. I am not too bothered about this as it seems to be down to memory.
I do resent people giving the phone a poor review because, on opening, the product didn't work. This so clearly isn't an accurate reflection on the performance of the phone so don't drag down its average score because you're annoyed.

When scrolling down the contact list the joystick always sticks & dials an unintended number. When emailing or surfing the net the phone often crashes. Pages lock or the screen blanks or the phone switches off. The build quali
