Sony Ericsson J230i Review

The Sony Ericsson J230i is a small & very user friendly mobile phone which is very light to carry around. The J230i has been marketed towards the middle of the market & is a very affordable mobile phone. The J230i is aimed towards the user who wants a highly reliable phone without too many technical features but still wants a highly fashionable mobile phone. The phone comes in the choice of cosmo white, cherry red & deep blue coloured casing. The J230i is very similar to the Sony Ericsson J220i & both phones offer the user a totally user friendly phone in a highly attractive design.

The user can give their J230i a totally new look by purchasing the Sony Ericsson Style Up Covers™ as an optional extra. The front & back covers of the J230i can be replaced with the new Style Up Covers™ which gives the phone a make over. The user can also select different display themes which are highly colourful to suit their mood.

Hi, I am using j230i for past 8 months. FM radio is nice & its clarity sound. But there are some drawbacks in this mobile, they are, it produces heat when we talk more that 20 min & screen will get brighter. I don't like the Orange LED in the keypad. It will be better if the number & text only glow, not the whole keypad. The reminder tone is not louder. Composer is simply a waste. If you kept open the message in the inbox, & if new messages received, it will not notify to you.

Now a days a lot of new phones are available in the market with very good features say Samsung C160 which is the best one. Sony has many drawbacks.

- You cannot listen to FM while charging battery. In Samsung C160 you can listen FM while charging.

- You can store only one no against one no. In Samsung C160 you can store 4 no's against one entry.

- Speaker phone function is also very complicated. In short it not user friendly.

It is the best phone I ever had at such a very cheap price. I can check my mails IE. I can use GPRS with good compability & I am really shocked to hear responses of peoples using this phone. I faced none of the problems stated above by others users. Sony Ericsson provides an account on its website from where we can download our own pics, ringtones, themes etc. On this phone just by GPRS at no cost! If you face any problems just go to Sony Ericsson & get it replaced with new one, they are very helpful.

This phone is well designed like other Sony Ericsson phones. It is not only beautiful but also tough. My phone fails on average 2 times a month. However, it does still look smart without any scratches or cuts.

Hi, I am using this phone for the 1st time, I have a small issue hear, when I am using hands-free & if I get a incoming call, then I can't here the ringing tone in my hands-free speakers, I will only know by the vibration (If surrounding is noisy) or through the ring tone which is heard from my mobile phone speakers (Not from hands-free speakers). So if any one knew the solution then please let me know.

Thanks, Kalyan

Kingi, yes you can change the alarm tone, just click Alarm Signal, then click Alarm Signal again & you can choose a tone.

I've had no problems with the phone, wap works fine etc. How ever, there is one strange bug (?) When alarm sounds it should go off pressing any button once. But if I press NO-button to stop the alarm, some times nothing happens, you must press it repeatedly to stop it. &, when the phone is turned off & the alarm sounds, if you press the NO-button long enough when the phone asks you if to turn off the alarm, IT STARTS TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY CALL! I couldn't even stop it, the phone didn't response, I had to remove the battery!

Anybody else experienced this?

What is going on?! Should this piece really work?! I wasted 60 Euros & got absolutely nothing but a piece of plastic. Some of the problems:

* I can't use WAP - it crashes the browser or the whole phone
* It doesn't find names for callers if they are not saved in national (not +xxxnumberhere format) format
* It doesn't show even the number - just a ?. The same goes for SMSes too
* Its T9 typing is way too slow. I can press like 1 char/sec
* Its wake-up alarm tune is not changeable!
* It might or might not log in to GSM network. 'No access' usually
* If I download (its hard with that buggy browser) a new theme, it usually is just messed up
* It doesn't make noise if it fails to send a SMS - & I don't want to wait & watch if it can do it or not
* Trying to unlock it from keypad lock is PITA: it lags so much that when I've already pressed 'Menu' & 'C', it still says it's locked & I'll have to wait
* The easiest way to clear the calendar alarm, when keypad is locked is to remove the back & the battery

I think - & hope - that this phone is just a joke from Sony Ericsson. But I am not laughing. DO NOT BUY J230i!

I've bought this phone couple of months before & discovered below problem.

When you set reminder for tasks & appointments, it rings with built in ring tone, which don't hear at all! But vibrating. So if you are lucky you have a phone when it ringing. Otherwise you will miss the appointment or task :- (

TOO BAD! I thought this is a fault in my phone. So I've did the same in one of my friend's J230i, but result is the same. It will ring twice with small volume you can't hear at all. & blinking display for long time. So you have to watch your phone all the time or set vibrator & keep phone touching you all the time (even when you go to toilet).

WHAT A STUPID DESIGN!

So if you have this model. Please check what I've said & post a comment. It will help lot of others.

THANKS!

J230i is such a smooth looking phone that I cant wait to have the pleasure of actually having a go of it. I am not really that into phones, but I'm needing to update my current phone in the next couple of months. I am wanting a really white, clean looking phone with a smooth finish. I have not had an Ericsson phone before but they must be good quality as Sony are one of the top electrical manufactures. I am not really wanting a phone full of stuff that is too hard for me to use but this phones sounds like all the features are quite useable & much fun. Really love this phone & will be back to buy one in a couple of months.

You cant beat SE when it comes to phones. I have owned 6 SE phones all have the same menu layout which is a great benefit. Every time I pick up a new SE phone it feels like I have had it for months, they are the most user friendly phones that I have come across. I want the J230i in the bright red colour as I like my phones to be noticed. Really good specification & I am looking forward to having a radio on my phone. Great phone Sony.
