Reviewer: Mark - UK

After reading the reviews of this phone along with ones for other phones I was convinced to go for the Satio (I'd pretty much made my mind up) as my upgrade & am so happy I did.
The camera is excellent, which being the main feature it should be. I find the usability excellent although I do find some things I am used to on phones difficult to find if at all but it's still early days. To answer some concerns about ease of putting the phone in silent mode quickly go to dialler & press & hold the # key & hay presto it's in silent do the same again & it's back to the previous profile, this is the same on all phone no matter what make & model. You can also tap the date & choose silent or another profile from the drop down menu, simples!
The only fault I find with the phone is it's bulkiness but that is expected with the camera that's on board & I don't think it makes the phone less comfortable.
I've not been a fan of Sony Ericsson due to my only other phone by them being poor but this has changed my mind.

Firstly don't listen to all the bad gripes about this phone.
The touch screen is unresponsive to fingers but the stylus provided gives good response considering it's a resistive screen.
Software. Having a few Symbian phones previously I know how to get the best out of the system, it does require you to change the settings for many features so that everything gets saved to the external memory card not the phone memory. The phone memory is small & not really sufficient but as I said just change the settings, this frees up the memory. Also delete or move the saved pictures, video's ringtones to the external memory card.
When using any application on the phone ensure you exit it using the menu not just by pressing the red button, by pressing the red button it leaves the application open & thus uses up your memory slowing down the phone. You can check what apps are open by pressing the middle button in between your red & green button.
Battery life. Is very good, I am always on the Internet & have my blue tooth on & it quite easily last a more than a day (normally charge it every second day. You must however fully charge this phone overnight before using it, Also another big point is to ensure you drain the battery right down before charging because this improves your battery life (do this once a week on all battery powered items).
The camera & video are exceptional considering it's a phone not a dedicated camera. You get the same shooting options as you would on a normal camera.
Internet. I would suggest you install OPERA for the phone, as it allows you to view HTML in full & doesn't revert back to mobile conversions or WAP.
I've had this phone 7 weeks now & have only had it crash once.
Excellent phone could have been better but it's still great.
Looks fantastic & easy to use.

Having owned the Satio phone now for 2 weeks its seems to be turning out to be a good little phone.
The software update has helped but there are a few niggles there which could still do with ironing out.
Overall a good phone.

Have previously reviewed this phone, Just to let you know I have updated phone even though I wasn't experiencing problems, but update has made it much smoother in operating & much more responsive, so don't be put off looking at this phone, love it.

This phone has to be the worst phone I have ever had. It is easily broken, large & difficult to text using your finger (stylus is provided thank goodness! ). I would not recommend this phone to anyone as it has a mind of its own & the view changes as the phone feels like it. Don't buy this phone!

OK so seeing as Carphone Warehouse let me swap the phone even though it wasn't faulty I feel I should write an honest review.
Design, Fair enough it packs a monster camera but if they were going to need a big phone at least give it a better shape to make it look more than 35% stylish especially in a competitive world!
Features, I rated the camera as fifth of the 100% so I gave it a full 20% out of 20% because it is amazing! However the other 80% really disappointing! Just like any PAYG phone under £60!
Usability, what more I need say than the screen doesn't fully respond & also picks up touch of an item unlike iPhone & HTC Hero etc.
In my opinion don't buy this for the camera buy one separate & choose a decent phone. I was so thrilled when I was able to swap for a HTC Hero it's only 100 times better apart from the camera of course but the phone for me was a nightmare!

Very good phone. I have had a N97 & iPhone 3G before this. Texting facilities on those were better than the Satio even though it runs the same operation system as the N97.
Camera is just unbelievable. I still can't believe it!
Very good phone, would recommend it highly.

I am known by all friends & family as a gadget freak! I love to have the now phone (hence why I have 5 contracts) don't ask :)
I began with the iPhone 3G & thought at first it was great, & had it for 6 months, & then the problems started. No one could get hold of me even with what looked like a full signal, the screen would just go completely blank, & the camera well I don't even need to mention that.
So I went & looked at the Satio & also the Nokia N97 & chose the Satio.
The camera is fantastic, the face detection feature is brilliant. It feels great, looks great well it's just Great!
My only problem is that the email function doesn't support Live.com accounts or hotmail accounts which annoy me off a little as it was sold to me believing that email can be done.
There is always something new to discover with this phone & hopefully I'll keep this one for longer :).

Got this phone on Monday & initially it was a nightmare. Popped it on charge & was playing about with it & it crashed about 20 times in an hour. Decided I'd had enough & phoned Vodafone to complain. The guy on the phone said charge it overnight & try again. He said it is needed for this phone.
I was VERY sceptical but thought OK. Tried it again yesterday & WOW, just WOW it worked PERFECTLY & is just the MOST AMAZING phone!
Only thing I have marked it down for is because Vodafone branding on this phone is RUBBISH. I wish they'd stop messing & leave it as its intended.
CONCLUSION, AN AWESOME PHONE IF YOU CHARGE IT OVERNIGHT BEFORE YOU USE IT!

I have owned this phone for nearly a month now & with time my opinion has completely changed. When I first got the phone I was disappointed as I found it very hard to use & having never had touch screen it was even harder. However having owned the phone for a while hence used to all the functions I have to say it's amazing.
The camera is brilliant better than my digital camera, the Wi-Fi is good, good media player, sat nav etc.
The only downside is its usability at first especially if your new to touch screen Sony on this phone have made certain functions more complicated than they need to be however have a little patience & play around with it & you will soon fall in love with this phone as it is excellent.

Had this phone for a week now, pleased so far, works with my 16GB SD card no problems, still getting my head round all different camera settings, found my Broadband, setup was easy, found my Bluetooth headphones works great.
I can't understand Carolyn of Worthing's gripes as software for downloading music etc is the same as iTtunes, & you can remove SD card & load through computer. Did you really have this phone? & yes I have had an iPhone, Samsung Pixmia & LG Renoir, so not a Sony man.
Previously not keen on Sony's before but I think they have winner here, but still early days. Only gripe wish it would play divx files.

I have been waiting for this phone for its 12MP camera as I am a keen photographer & wanted to replace the need for taking my digital camera with me as well as my phone. The camera is really great & the Xenon flash also allows for low light photos & sets it above led flash rivals. The phone looks nice & is packed with features BUT it is SO difficult to use. I almost threw it out of the window getting it to connect to Wi-Fi. There aren't enough quick keys & shortcuts. Unlike my Sony K800i I can't put it on silent in one simple key command & have to navigate through several menus. The touch screen isn't very responsive. It keeps saying 'no gateway error' when I try to connect to my home Wi-Fi. Even after adding it to my Netgear allowable devices list etc (this is a known Symbian problem that Nokia users will be aware of). I want to be able to use free Wi-Fi hotspots to avoid using my contract data allowance where possible.
I tried to love this phone because I wanted the camera but it would be at the expense of having a user unfriendly interface with a limited number of apps (at the moment! ). This phone is a nightmare!
I am waiting to exchange it for a Samsung Omnia II. Only a 5MP camera & LED flash but it will be a lot more fun to use!

I have been waiting for the iPhone on Orange but bought this as I thought the camera was better, which was the case but the rest of the phone was a nightmare over the last 4 years I have had W800i, W580i & now have a W705 & have loved the ease to download music & transfer things. This phone has been a nightmare, I have read from other people about being like a Nokia, if I had wanted a Nokia I would have gone for a Nokia. Thank goodness I had the option to send it back, I am going to wait for the iPhone!

Reviewer: Nathan - Wigan, UK

This phone is obviously amazing for the camera, cannot fault at all, it takes a crystal clear picture in pitch black rooms! However the touch screen misses out letters etc when typing, but it's quite responsive. The Internet could be slightly bigger etc but other than that great phone!
Better than Sony Ericsson average phones easily.

I got this phone last week from here on t mobile, first of all look of phone is excellent, camera is great & most surprisingly video resolution is better than any other Sony Ericsson phones but honestly not better than Samsung & screen resolution is brilliant the only down side with this phone is music playback as there is no equalizer & you can't adjust sound so resulting poor sound quality. & this is the only reason that it can not beat iPhone.

I have just pre ordered the Sony Ericsson Satio bordeaux red, the black is OK looking but it doesn't catch your eye like the silver & red the red is an amazing stylish colour & makes the phone look so sleek I think the handset is very light perfect for myself as it won't weigh down the pockets or my handbag & doesn't look or feel cheap at all but that's my opinion & everyone has different comments & reviews about every phone out on the market also once I receive the phone I will have everything bought to protect it from the British weather like I have done with all my phones in the past so it won't get damaged by water or if it has been dropped, my latest handset was the iPhone which wasn't good for me, for one there was no flash for picture taking & I couldn't send MMS only emails I really wouldn't recommend it even though the iPhone 3GS has video & other features I still wouldn't upgrade to it I think Sony Ericsson has done very well with the Satio & I cannot wait to receive it. I also have a screen protector to prevent fingerprints on my iPhone & will buy one for the Satio if there is one available as like every phone you can always get mostly anything & everything to protect the handset if it the one for you, you just need to find or ask if there's such an item available for the type of handset you have :).

Right simple review. You can't complain about the size when there's a 12MP camera installed, but it looks fine any way (was between this & HTC hero but I decided that looked like a calculator! ) the features are great! Wi-Fi, the camera SUPERB! Good media management & web browsing good. If there was one fault I'd give it would just be the touch screen Sony Ericsson could have put a little more effort into it, but around 80% of the time is does what you want. The phone is great, ignore low reviews where they don't actually even own the phone.

I am so gutted, waited for this phone to come out, bought it today & I hate it. It's a Nokia with a Sony Ericsson name on it. I feel so let down by how awkward it is to use, not like a normal Sony Ericsson. This must be down to the OS used by Nokia, I just can't get on with it.

I have had this phone 2 days now & it took a little while to get used to but now I say wow brilliant.
I put it against my friends iPhone & sorry but the Sony Ericsson was faster & with the option to make the qwerty keyboard larger it's easier to type with. It also has an apps store as well as the iPhone.
The Camera well what can I say the quality is as good if not better than my own Samsung dedicated camera.
I downloaded a movie in under 10 minutes to this phone & the picture resolution & the colours is amazing.
I just set my email up on it from work & its brilliant who needs BlackBerry's, when you got the Sony Ericsson Satio that does everything that the iPhone & Blackberry does & has a 12.1 megapixel camera.
Pros.
- Great Camera.
- Great screen.
- Great email.
- Great Internet access.
- Great Memory.
- & the options can be endless.
Cons.
- A bit fiddly to start with but stick with it.
- It isn't the best looking phone.
- Also its a fingerprint magnet.
Honestly I was wary at first with this phone but gave it a go & hey I love it.

What a letdown. Been waiting to get this since its launch earlier this year, finally saw the black version in the flesh yesterday & I am going to pass. It feels a cheap & the shiny black plastic is a magnet for finger prints, funny how all the photos of it on the net looks a black matt finish! Oh well as I'm with Orange I'm getting the iPhone 3GS come its release!

Really can't wait for this phone to come out. Sony Ericsson in my opinion are the best phones out.
Should have had my upgrade months ago, disappointed that this phone isn't out until October, so decided to go for the Apple iPphone 3G S. Had it 5 days & now it's going back.
Will now definitely wait until Sony release the Idou Satio!

No Sony, don't rush it.
Let's have a Sony Ericsson that actually works for the first time in years.
I've had Ericsson phones since my 1st mobile phone, & loved them until about 2 to 3 years ago when they just went rubbish!
K810i kept crashing, W910i screen broke when someone sat NEAR it, cost me £60 was only a week old & has happened to everyone I know that has a W910i & then you read the reviews of the C902 & C905 & they're just rubbish too?
I need a phone that's going to last me a year without breaking. It has to be splash proof because it rains in England. It has to be shock resistant because it's a MOBILE phone & is going to be going into the big bad world. It needs reasonable battery life because it's going to get used.
