I switched from Alcatel to Sony Ericsson thinking that the features that C702i carries is perfect. But I came to know after 3 months of usage that it is not what the official sites of Sony Ericsson show. I would recommend not buying Sony Ericsson mobile phones. My phone would not ON without any reason. Technicians say it is factory fault. Why fool your customers if you can't manufacture quality products?

AVOID. I don't want to say it as I have loved my last 5 Sony Ericsson phones, especially my old k770i but avoid this one like swine flu. Still trying to get shot. Got the phone on 18 month contract & sick of it constantly turning off, slowing up or freezing. Self employed so it really is my main source of receiving work. I got it as it is supposedly more robust but after two months looked like I used it to dig a tunnel. All features are great but no good if it has turned itself off, I rely on the alarm to get me up in the mornings but that is getting more of a gamble week on week & I've had to charge it every day since new, if not on the way home & then the Sony charger wears out after 2 months solid use & has to be propped up against something or cable tied to get it too charge, looks like I might have to give Nokia another go.

DO NOT BUY AT ALL COSTS! This is the worst phone I have ever had! It looks & sounds great on paper but in reality it is a fake. The camera is pathetic, you can never get a clear image where the colour is right.

The GPS doesn't work full stop which is 1 of the main reasons I bought this phone.

The buttons are too small, when texting the phone will freeze, so for those of us that have become complacent enough while texting that we don't need to bother looking at the screen this is a big no no. You will look down to see rubbish on the screen.

The biggest annoyance is the inactive SIM error, which as I understand happens to everybody's C702. When questioning the salesperson, his answer was that all phones have silly little errors & my response was my K750i didn't!

As for the IP rating I haven't even tempted myself to let it anywhere near water! DO NOT BUY!

AVOID THIS PHONE AT ALL COSTS! Got this phone as an insurance replacement for my trusty old Sony Ericsson k800, what a total disappointment. The camera on this phone is nothing short of a bad joke, there is no auto flash & when using the light option the subject either comes out a deathly white or jaundice yellow! GREAT Sony Ericsson thanks. Also keys are so close together you will need to carry a cocktail stick around to use the keypad. I know this is primarily a phone but haven taken some great pictures with my k800 I cannot accept this handset can be marketed as a camera phone. Pull your fingers out network providers & stop plaguing joe public with junk like this & perhaps Sony Ericsson will stop making such rubbish.

I was really looking forward to getting this phone, unfortunately email access & GPS potential. Maybe it's just 02 software & firmware, however, neither of these seem to work as expected.

Firstly I find it impossible to set up my online email account. No matter what I do it just won't connect. This is frustrating & clearly causes me a problem. There is nothing special about my email, it is an online tiscali account!

Secondly because 02 are tied in with Yahoo it means you can't access Google maps which it uses for the GPS feature. Effectively rendering this phone with no useful features.

I am also having problems with the phone just restarting itself. I get a message SIM card inactive & then it turns off up to 5 times before it returns back to normal.

Take my advice, there are plenty of good phones out there to buy, this isn't one of them.

Felt I had to add more to my review after owning the phone now for a few months. I got used to the funny keypad when sending a text but still have to use two hands.

Experiencing similar problems with phone hanging & repowering at will, emergency calls only, inactive SIM etc. Techie husband told me to upgrade firmware & all would be resolved so, after several hours downloading 4 separate bits of software from the web I had the phone backed up & upgrade ready to go, only to discover when I kicked it off that I am on the latest version of software. Grrr doesn't quite cover the phrases I was using last night. I did find that my clubcard keyfob was useful in popping the back off to get into the battery.

Phoning network supplier today to beg for a new phone that isn't this one.

The GPS does not work, the camera is so poor when you compare it to other phones in this category, as is the flash.

The worst thing of all is, I have had three of these phones, one from expansy's & two from CPW, & every single one of them has restarted on me, with the same problems, phone will crash, restart itself, say inactive SIM, restart itself, say inactive SIM, it does this sometimes 3 times, sometimes (I have counted up to 8). Eventually it does come up with O2 UK on screen. & even then, I can't send texts, receive, use GPRS, make phones calls, & on a number of occasions it says no access to network, what's all that about? I am taking it back tomorrow for either a Nokia 6220 Classic of a Sony Ericsson C902.

AVOID THIS PHONE, I COULD UNDERSTAND 1, MAYBE EVEN 2 PHONES PLAYING UP, BUT 3?

Worst thing is, I think Sony Ericsson's are the best phones on the market, but lately my opinion has been changing.

It is really a awesome phone. Even though the keys are quite small for large fingers, it becomes adaptable once you start using it.

Feature wise, it is fully loaded. Music quality is incomparable.

I love this phone & hope even you guys will love it.

The only bad thing about this phone is getting the battery cover off. I had to go to the Sony Ericsson website for instructions as the manual doesn't help. Other than that it's great. The camera take excellent photos, on a par with the K800i. It has lost the proper flash but the benefit of LED is that it also gives the phone a torch. The Netfront browser works well & email settings setup is automatic with most accounts. It has the standard Sony Ericsson awesome battery life although GPS use drains it quickly. The GPS takes longer to get a lock than a true Sat Nav but is acceptable for a phone. The music player is the old Walkman software which hasn't aged much. The only thing missing is the Megabass setting. The call & end buttons are a bit small but I have found I got used to this within a day.

I bought this phone because of its looks & solid build. I never had a camera phone before, so I can't say how picture quality compares to other phones but pictures come out pretty decent while night shots aren't as good because of the weak flash.

The camera also has some features which are pretty fun to play around with, like adding fake sunglasses to your pictures & such. Overall picture quality doesn't come close to my canon a550 or probably all newer digital cams but it's a camera you always have with you & like I said takes decent pictures.

The buttons are a real awkward shape & too close together so it takes a while to get used to them. They should have made them smaller & maybe round which would have created more space & solved the problem.

The GPS takes a minute or 2 to get location & drains the battery quite fast. The AGPS can be turned off & it's a good idea to do so, since it charges network fees.

Sound quality is very nice overall.

Battery life is all right but not as advertised, I'd say with regular use & maybe some picture taking, it would last about 2 to 3 days before it needs charging.

It has a SAR rating of 100 which is a bit high but not as bad as most new phones.

Overall its excellent & a really fun toy with the only drawback being the awkward to use buttons & weak flash.

Really would not recommend getting this phone. Within one month I had returned 2 handsets, & after the second one I point blank refused to be given a third.

Considering this phone is marketed as being tough & resilient, I've never owned a phone that has broken so quickly. The first handset kept coming up with inactive SIM for a reason that is beyond my comprehension (as my SIM was fine in my old handset) & like was said earlier, kept dropping calls. I sent that back & the second one the camera lens cover broke within 2 days (two days!? How is it going to last for an 18 month contract? ! ). It wasn't through misuse, I merely slid it back to take a picture & something snapped. This was a considerable problem because the camera starts automatically when the lens cover is opened, so therefore the camera mode kept coming on which ran the battery down.

Also, buttons are really not easy to use (& I don't have big fingers, they really are just regular sized). & most irritatingly, this phone has the most ridiculously difficult cover to get off. Ridiculous & for what? ! The SIM obviously kept moving about anyway. It took about 35 minutes for me to get the cover off the first time, in the end I Googled for instructions.

So yes, please don't be silly enough to buy this phone.

I was really excited to be getting my first Sony Ericsson, after only having Nokia phones for the past 5 years. What sold it to me was the water & dust resistant & was reviewed as being perfect for the adventurous type. I aren't, but have 4 year twins who are bound to get hold of it at some point! Well so much for that, the screen scratched within the first couple of days, with no particular incident. The gps is useless, takes forever, to do nothing. NO Google maps or the navigation software on the phone as stated in the booklet as pre loaded on your phone. Spoke to 02 customer service who advised me to go to a 02 shop who would load it for me. Rubbish. She opened another c702 which was the same. She apparently rang Sony Ericsson who advised I have to download it from their site at my own cost, of which she couldn't advise the cost. The keys are tiny & I found it very difficult to text, even find names in my phone book at first but I am getting used to it. Another problem I have is it switches itself off randomly, drops calls, when it comes back on it says inactive sim or emergency calls only for a couple of minutes then will be fine for a couple of days. Not sure what that's about. So I was quite disappointed at first & planned to change it. My hubby was upgrading also & said I could have his phone. So we ordered a new Nokia 6220, then I realised I preferred this phone!

As my trusty k800i was beginning to die after 19 months of solid use, the C702 seemed like the natural successor, & on first impressions, it seemed like a good choice. The menu system is familiar to anyone who has used a Sony Ericsson phone recently & I was able to use my M2 memory card in the C702's card slot. You can personalise the menus & shortcuts to your liking & the predictive text, which even predicts the next word is some cases, is as good as ever.

The screen is a decent size for a small phone & overall, the handset feels sturdy. It's marketed as a durable phone which is exactly what I want.

However, I am disappointed with a few things. First of all, I am not convinced that the camera is as good as the K800i, the flash doesn't seem as powerful.

Secondly, the buttons aren't very finger friendly. The K800i was a dream for texting quickly, but this phone is awful for it. The 2, 5, 8, 0 buttons are offset from the other number keys, & the buttons themselves are badly shaped, allowing fingers to easily slip off them.

In addition, the start & end call buttons are tiny, aren't coloured as you'd expect, & are located too close to the buttons above & beneath them. For example, it is all too easy to end a call when you only intended to turn the loudspeaker on & off.

I am on my second handset now, awaiting a third to come into stock, the first two have had the same faults. First of all, the phone really enjoys resetting itself a couple of times a day, sometimes a couple of times per ten minutes. & perhaps even more annoyingly, the memory card reader seems to be dud, all too often playback of songs & videos stutters, or stops altogether & the phone resets again. This seems to completely contradict the durable image that is being used in the marketing of this handset.

I am hoping its third time lucky for the C702 because it's a phone I really want to like. It's loud, well proportioned & feels like it will last the 18 months it will inevitably have to. I just hope the next handset doesn't develop a fault in the first three weeks!

I was really excited to get this phone but now that it's arrived I am a little disappointed.

As someone else has already said, the tops of the keys are rounded & it's really easy for your fingers to slide off of them. It means writing a text now takes twice as long for me which is getting annoying very quickly. The answer & end call keys are tiny which is a pain, &, the fact that they are raised higher than the surrounding buttons means they can be easily pressed when reaching for the other function buttons immediately around them which is especially annoying when you consider that the end call key, when not in a call, acts as a cancel button.

The GPS is virtually useless. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to find a satellite, will stay connected for about 30 seconds, loses signal & then will spend another 5 to 10 minutes searching for the satellites again. Whilst all this is going on you can almost visibly see the battery draining.

Whilst the camera is not bad it certainly isn't anything new. Sony Ericsson have been tweaking & recycling the same camera for years now. I know they now have the C902 but I feel they're coming to this party a little late.

Despite these negative comments I still feel it's a good phone & will suit a fair few people, it just doesn't suit me unfortunately.

I have just got this C702. Nice phone with lots of great features. I find the keys are difficult to use as they are shiny plastic & slightly rounded fingers keep slipping off them. Also find it quite wide to hold in one hand which is a problem when texting, maybe it's just my little girly hands. Disappointed not to be instantly loving it but going to persevere.
