This phone was my first on contract & away from Nokia. Seemed great at first, loved the design & ease of use. However problems kicked in fairly quickly. 3 different USB cables & still couldn't connect without crashing PC, had to use Bluetooth. Signal very poor indoors, I couldn't use it at all in my own house. The keys were sticking, switching on when should have been locked. 3 months into a 2 year contract & I've had 3 Zylo's & 2 sim cards. Three eventually exchanged it for something different today, I have now gone back to a Nokia!

I posted a review on this phone on 21 October 2010 (see below) I have now had the phone for 3 months & I take back what I said in the review I posted earlier when I said that it's a good phone as I am now using another phone due to problems with this one. The phone just all of a sudden packed up first a button stopped working when phone was slid open followed by another then another. Couldn't see what I had written when writing text without having to close slider now & then to check I hadn't made any mistakes. None of the buttons apart from keypad worked when phone open so had to close it to select a contact to send my text to. Next, phone display started 'packing up' it started going weird almost like an un tuned TV set or a TV with no aerial! Then it went black & the phone keypad backlight was lit up & phone turned itself off if you dared to slide it open. All these problems started just after 2 months of owning the phone.

The technology in this phone has clearly trickled down from more expensive &superior Sony mobile phones. What lets this one down is the build quality. The manufacturer has clearly used lower quality components in order to get this phone out to a cash conscious user.

After less than 2 months the speaker has ceased to work meaning that the phone cannot ring, there is no audio for videos etc.

Furthermore some of the buttons are sticky, despite me taking good care of the phone.

I'd steer clear of this phone at all costs.

Do not buy this phone. It looks nice, is relatively small & has a reasonable set of applications. They're the good points.

Now for the bad.

- The poor choice of unlock keys meant it got unlocked in my pocket on several occasions. So I accidently called a bunch of people. & the phone shut off a few times too.

- The navigation buttons just stopped working when the phone is slid open. As you can imagine that's a real pain when you're trying to write a text message & have to slide the phone closed any time you want to delete a letter or select an alternative word via predictive text. This is apparently a common problem & from reading about it online it looks like the navigation keys will eventually stop working even when the phone is closed. I've only had it for two months & that's the same figure I've seen repeatedly listed as the point at which it breaks.

- Though I haven't had the issue myself, many people have reported the screen will just die when the phone is slid open. There's obviously some sort of problem with the slider in general.

- Can't find any way of inserting the number of a contact into a message. I did a good search through all the menus so even if this (basic) feature does exist it's amazingly well hidden.

- & this may sound like one somewhat stupid final criticism, but it baffles me, I mean really baffles me, but the dictionary in the phone is a complete piece of rubbish. Phone dictionaries must be one of the easiest things to get right. One would imagine that Sony Ericsson simply have some standard phone dictionary that they improve each year with new words. But no, not in this phone. It's like someone accidently inserted the first ever phone dictionary. I've come across many words that aren't even uncommon that just aren't in the dictionary. Yet it has many obscure words instead. Can't remember what I was trying to spell, but it was pretty normal, & it wasn't in the dictionary but the phone was suggesting 'Byzantine' to me instead. The Byzantine empire hasn't been around for a few hundred years now, it's not exactly a hot topic of conversation. Also its word suggestion preferences are often odd. It keeps suggesting 'goring' whenever I type 'hoping'. It also auto completes everything when it comes to predictive texting, so say for example you want to shorten 'moment' to 'mo' you're going to have to enter 'mo' into the phone dictionary because it will always complete words like 'moment' or 'more' instead, you can't just skip the remainder of the predicted word. If you text a lot this phone will do nothing but irritate you with its rubbish software.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. I am about to go leave my two month old phone in for repair. Probably won't see it for quite some time, leaving me phoneless. & even when it's fixed, assuming it doesn't just break again, it'll still have many of the same problems that I've already listed.

Had this phone for two months & was fairly pleased with it until last week when the screen just packed in. At first it was just when the slider was open, but now it's completely defunct. It seems to be quite a common problem judging by other review sites. Orange are replacing it for me tomorrow, so we'll see if the next one's any better.

I have had this phone for 2 months now & it is going back for repair for the second time now. I am not amused because 3 said this handset is FAB the best on the market. I sent it back within the 30days for repair because the screen kept flashing on & off in standby mode, then I had to charge battery every other day & I don't use the phone that much (the standby time is a load of rubbish), perhaps one or two calls a day. Got phone back & a month later the screen is now not working & it freezes when I slide it open. OFF FOR REPAIR AGAIN! I want a new handset from 3 because I don't like this one, I am gutted I have always had a Sony slide phone & this one is a big letdown. Boo hoo hoo : (.

Yet another great phone from Sony Ericsson! I purchased this phone 2 days ago due to being frustrated by a phone I had only bought a month ago which was a touch screen device (Samsung).I couldn't get the hang of the touch screen malarky so, decided to buy a fairly cheap button phone & decided on the Zylo. I don't regret my decision as I love everything about the phone style, colour (I have silver one) Great sound even without the headset. I had a Sony Ericsson W995 before I got my unreliable touch screen & had a Sony Ericsson before that. I have had around 7 Sony Ericsson's out of nearly 30 phones in my 11 years of owning a mobile phone. After trying a few brands, Sony Ericsson has been most reliable for me. The camera isn't that great at 3.2MP but, I have a digital camera I use which is 4MP & has flash so that's not important for me. The features are great otherwise. Can't fault the phone. The Zylo does lack a USB cable & software disc in the sales package but, the software you need to connect to PC for Internet connection on computer is on the phone. I was lucky to have a USB cable lying around in my desk drawer from my previous Sony Ericsson phone as well as a set of ear bud earphones & adaptor so I can use any set. He phone also doesn't include a memory card but, I had an 8GB from my annoying touch screen phone that fits it. An outstanding little phone!

HAD THIS PHONE NOW ABOUT 3 WEEKS, MY FAITHFUL W850I GAVE UP ON ME. SO I NEEDED A NEW PHONE THATS GOT WALKMAN ON IT GOT IT FOR £90 & PAID £15 FOR A 16 GIG MD CARD .

PROS.
- JUST LIKE USING MY W850I.
- PLAYS MUSIC GREAT.
- SCREEN IS BIG A VERY CLEAR.
- SLIDE UP TO ANSWER & SLIDE DOWN TO FINSH THE CALL.

CONS.
- YOU HAVE TO OPEN THE BACK TO GET AT YOUR CARD.
- I FIND I HAVE TO HAVE IT ON CHARGE EVERY NIGHT BUT THEN AGAIN I HAVE LOTS OF CALLS IN THE DAY & I ALWAYS HAVE THE MUSIC ON.
- I AM USING MY OLD HEADSET AS THE NEW ONE IS NOT IN EAR BUT THAT'S MY PREFERENCE.

ALL IN ALL IF YOU'RE AFTER A SIMPLE TO USE PHONE TO MAKE CALLS & PLAY MUSIC GO FOR THIS PHONE & ITS WELL CHEAP.

I love this phone. Good looking while not being over the top pretty & has great facilities unlike some that are all looks & no brain.

This is a good all rounder.

Just one mad moment when it jumbled up a couple of contact numbers which had previously been OK, but this was a one off. Apparently its just a blip that happens in first few days of set up. My signal is great & I get ages out of one battery charge.

Looks good, good size, loads of features but is letdown by.

- No sync/data cable provided with standard package.
- No memory card included, but most of all.
- In built screen saver kicks in after about 10 seconds of browsing or on use of keys & soon becomes a real pain.

I wanted a simple, no frills phone & this fits the bill for me. Easy to set up, easy to operate, clear easy to read screen. Just one setback in the first few days of receiving it, the phone number of the last person to call me in my call history would save as the phone number of the first person listed in my address book, wiping off that persons number. This happened 3 times within 24 hours & took me a while to suss what was going on, but it hasn't happened since & overall I am pleased. If you want a basic no nonsense phone then I would recommend it.

The phone itself looks good, & the sound is GREAT & it's a quick to use phone but the down side about it is you don't got a memory card with the phone, I bought my memory card from 02 for a tenner, which I think isn't bad, so if you want music, video, etc on your phone than buy a memory card & the phone is perfect for you.

So overall, nice looking, easy to use, quick little phone.

Hi everyone!

I've been checking out the Zylo as my next new phone to get & I want to buy it from Argos.
Does anyone know if a separate external memory card is included with the phone?
Also I've heard stories that this phone can be quite breakable, is it sturdy or fragile?

Thanks!

This has got to be my favourite Sony phone. Big display, got conversations, love the Walkman & the different styles you can view it in (a tape cassette playing or a record on a turntable etc). Has a fantastic slider & the keypad is fantastic, big memory.

I would highly recommend it to anyone.

HEY ALL, I AM GOING TO GET A NEW PHONE, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHICH PHONE IS BETTER (THE LG OPTIMUS OR THIS SONY ERICSSON ZYLO). I MEAN THE DESIGN IS VERY NICE ON THE ZYLO BUT IT IS A VERY SIMPLE PHONE, ON THE OTHER HAND, THE LG OPTIMUS IS A NEW LOOKING TOUCH SCREEN PHONE WHICH LOOKS A LITTLE BIT HARDER TO USE BUT STILL LOOKS COOL, SO COULD SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME WHICH PHONE IS BETTER : )!
