Overview
The Sony Ericsson Hazel is a 3G slider phone which comes with a wide variety for communication & entertainment features as well as high speed technologies. This handset is a member of the Sony Ericsson GreenHeart range which is an environmental focused handset as this handset supports a recycled plastic casing, a low power consumption phone charger, less packaging, an e manual, it is manufactured using no lead & less chemicals than other handset, so a simply greener choice of phone. The Sony Ericsson Hazel may also be known as the Sony Ericsson Hazel GreenHeart. The GreenHeart range includes other handset such as the Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart, Sony Ericsson Naite & the Sony Ericsson Elm. This slider phone supports many high quality features include a 5 megapixel camera, music player, conversation style messaging, email, FM radio & GPS navigation. The Hazel is a truly gorgeous looking phone which comes with all the built in features to suit today's mobile phone user's needs whilst supporting a more environmentally friendly approach.

Appearance & Size
The Sony Ericsson Hazel has a very natural name to suit its natural & greener design. The handset comes in two colours which include a superior black or a passionate red coloured casing. It has a slider form which makes this handset a compact handset when in its slide closed position. It measures 10.2cm by 4.95cm by 1.6cm when in its slide closed position & weighs 120 grams complete with its low power consumption battery fitted. The Hazel has an attractive style casing & comes with a rear facing camera lens & a front facing 3G camera lens. It has a speaker on the back of the casing & side positioned volume keys & camera capture key. On the front of the casing is a TFT touch screen, a beautifully designed square shaped navigation key, call keys & menu keys. The screen is a good size touch screen which provides the user with touch screen controls on the 2.6 inch display which supports up to sixteen million colours for a truly colourful display. Its screen supports a 240 pixel by 320 pixel resolution as well as an automatic screen rotation feature allowing the user to view their screen in vertical or horizontal mode.

Imaging, Media & Entertainment
The Sony Ericsson Hazel supports a built in camera with video recording capabilities which allows the user to enjoy capturing moving video footage on their phone for memories or the videos captured can be shared with others via the messaging services or connectivity options available on the Hazel. This video recorder comes with a video light allowing the user to brighten their surrounding, & the user can playback videos on the phones built in video player or even stream video on this sleek slider phone. The camera is a 5 megapixel camera complete with a huge section of imaging features which include a face detection feature, automatic focus feature, smile detection setting & photo geo tagging function. The user can capture a photo quickly & easily using this built in 5 megapixel camera which supports a four times digital zoom & a photo fix correction feature which will rectify any flaws in the picture quality. The Sony Ericsson Hazel has a second camera which has a front facing lens allowing the user to use this camera when the user is creating & taking part in a 3G video call. The Hazel comes with Java™ game support & the user can experience 3D style gaming on their phone. There is an integrated FM radio feature complete with a radio data system which allows the user to view information provided by the radio station on their touch screen whilst listening to their favourite radio station. This slider phone supports a variety of messaging service which means the user can choose a messaging service to suit their messaging & communication needs. The user can enjoy a conversation format messaging style on their Hazel phone. A SMS service allows the user to share messages complete with text & symbols & the user can use the predictive text input method to assist them if desired. A MMS service allows the user to share a message containing text, sound or music with a picture or video clip which can be shared with compatible MMS contacts. A built in sound recorder allows the user to record music, sounds & voice messages which can be shared with others. An instant messaging service allows the user to enjoy chatting to friends when taking part in an online communication with other instant messaging compatible contacts that are online at the same time as the user. There is an integrated email service which allows the user to communicate with others via email directly from the Sony Ericsson Hazel. I am surprised there's not a thread on this phone. I've had it for 2 weeks & I think it's great! I've always had a thing for sliders.

What's so good about it?

Well, think back to the Nokia N95 & that's the basic Hazel, except in a more up-to-date Sony Ericsson which looks better!

Hazel's a slider phone with a large useable 2.6 inch clear bright screen with glass, so much more scratch resistant, has a large keypad, so fingers don't keep bumping wrong keys, & has an excellent 5 megapixel camera with VGA video at 30fps. As usual with Sony Ericsson, call clarity & volume is very good & I have no problems with it. Also typical of Sony Ericsson, the music player is very good, although the included earphones are rubbish, to put it bluntly. Fortunately, I had a better pair of Sony Ericsson earphones from a previous phone. Another minus is the proprietary connections, not a 3.5mm jack

Texting is even better now because they have included 'conversations' as a feature. This means that all your SMS's with that person are included in a scrollable frame & you can see who said what & when, as it is dated. Also, if you receive a SMS from that person while you are typing or reading, it automatically includes it, so you don't have to go out, than back in to update it.

The theme of the Hazel is 'eco', & there are some software add on's so you can see how many steps you took today when walking, or something about some Panda. Gimmicky stuff of no real use. The box it comes it is also smaller, saving paper, apparently.

The only minuses I've noticed are:

- The keypad lighting is quite dim, so if you don't hold it up to the light at a certain angle, it's hard to see the numbers, as it seems to make the numbers look silver, blending it with the silver paint of the keypad. Also, the keypad is completely smooth, so there is no texture to differentiate the buttons for typing.

- The MultiMedia window is unchanged from previous editions, so there's a lot of redundant button pushing, imho. E.g. If you press photos, you should instantly see your photos, right? No. You then go to another page with a whole lot of choices, most of which are irrelevant.

- The camera has few photo editing features.

That's all I can think of for now. I don't use Internet, so can't talk about that, sorry folks! Hope this is helpful!
