BenQ-Siemens SF65 Review

The BenQ-Siemens SF65 is a compact & stylish clamshell opening mobile phone which comes in a choice of colours which include polar white & onyx black. The phone has a very smooth coated finish which makes it highly desirable in looks. The handset is very solid & robust for a clamshell phone & weighs 97 grams which provides a quality feel. The size of the handset is 91 x 44 x 23 mm which provides a very usable & compact feel. The phone is similar in features to the Nokia 2652 & the Nokia V220 mobile phones but all the phones have a very unique & attractive look of their own.

The phone comes with a 65k colour screen (128 x 160 pixels) which will provide the user with a colourful display. The SF65 comes with a built in 1.3 megapixel camera with 4 x zoom & flash feature. The camera can be operated by the user opening the clamshell mechanism then twisting the screen 180 degrees & repositioning the screen in the opposite position. The phone looks like a small digital camera & all the operating camera keys can be used very easily when the screen is in this position.

The SF65 comes complete with a choice of ringtones so that the user can select a tone to suit their mood. The sound quality in the BenQ-Siemens SF65 is good & the user can use the volume control to increase the volume of their chosen ringtone. The phone comes with a vibrating alert feature which provides the user with not only a ringtone but the motion of the handset will let the user know when a call is coming in.

The phone comes with embedded games for the user to enjoy & some good messaging services. The user can very easily send & receive text messages (SMS) which can be managed easily in the SMS log. The user can enjoy sending multimedia messages (MMS) which include text input, sound & photos all together in one message. The multimedia messages (MMS) are very easy to create & can be sent to any multimedia messaging (MMS) compatible mobile phone. The messaging services come with a predictive text feature which can be turned off if not desired by the user.

The phone has a dual band network connectivity which allows the user to be reassured that the phone will switch between the two bands automatically. The user can connect to compatible devices with the use of a USB cable or by using an Infra Red connection which are both very effective ways to make a connection. The phone comes with a WAP browser which allows the user to connect to the Internet easily.

The call features on the SF65 are very useful which include conference calling, call forwarding, call filtering & a call timer & cost facility. The phone comes with a good phone book which allows the user to store a mobile number, fax number, data number, note, email account, pager, home number & a work number for each contact in the phone book. The SF65 comes with a calculator & an alarm feature which are both very useful features.

I bought this phone around Christmas. The screen sometimes goes blank & I have to fiddle with some of the buttons or turn it off to get the screen working again. The camera is OK, though it could be better. I've found it very hard to open the back of it so I could get to the SIM card & battery. I have never dropped my phone however the entire top part of my phone is about to come off. The main thing that annoys me is that there is no Bluetooth. I have been looking for a new phone for a couple of months now & I would suggest to anybody thinking of getting this phone not to. It is a waste of money & there are far better phones out there.

Perhaps what you don't know is, underneath this Siemens appearance, this is a Philips phone, that's why its software is a nightmare. This phone was a partnership between Siemens-Philips & they got their phones. Siemens SF65 & Philips 760 are twins, they are just different in design.

I got my SF65 about 16 months ago, it did everything OK for about 6 months then the camera started playing up everything was green kinda like in the Matrix, but that's alright I didn't use the camera that much anyway. A few months later I wanted to send something to it via infra-red much anyway. Now after 16 months the display is unreadable just diagonal lines, you can see it's doing things because the lines change as you press buttons you just don't know what it's doing, but that's alright because I now use my old Nokia.

It's not like it's had a hard life, never been dropped & always in my pocket if it's not sitting on my desk. If anyone was thinking about buying one I would say NO WAY, stay away from this phone it is junk.

Please don't get this phone! Its rubbish but it does look good & I like the light at the front. Also it's always turning its self of even when it's charged. So I am getting the Samsung e900. If you're looking for a good phone please don't get this one!

Lovely looking phone, BUT, it has major design flaws mostly regarding the SMS feature. Not only can't you see how many words you have written (so you don't know if you are sending one text or two) but there is very little space in the inbox for saving texts. The sms archive is annoying as it can easily become too overcrowded & if you select to delete them all the phone crashes with overload. The buttons are flimsy & one broke off meaning I could not use the camera feature. The ringer volume is too low also, & the predicted text is limited in vocabulary & cannot save user-set words. It is all artifice this phone.

I think that when I had this phone it was very good, looks good, camera is good, the twist is sleek, BUT my friend also has the phone, & both have broke in under the year, the problem is the phone is not air tight, & dust just fills it, & I mean fills, when the screen stopped working I broke mine open & there was dust every where.

I hate this phone! There's no other way I could put it. I got it for £80 which I thought was quite good for a modern & stylish design but as soon as I got it home I wished I stuck with my old broken phone. On the plus side the camera is ok. The twisting screen is clever & a good design so the phone looks similar to a real camera. But the camera does blur very easily & so often the pictures are out of focus. The lack of memory in the SMS inbox is also annoying as it can only store 20 messages at a time. The phone has very few features & is a pain to use. Apart from various buttons breaking (trust me when you can't scroll up or right life becomes difficult), the phone is just not user friendly.

Do not buy this phone!

I'd call myself a moderate user when it comes to Mobile Phones. Having Stuck with my trusty Nokia for a good few years decided to look for a new phone. Had a good look around, didn't want to spend too much over £120 for a mobile, because I just didn't use it enough to justify spending more. I saw the most currently popular styles around like the RZR ect. But then saw this model which I had never heard of or seen before. Read some reviews & the design stuck with me & it had a camera with reasonable memory space, so I bought it in White for £80, which I was very happy with.

As soon as I got it home & on, the screen went totally blank for no reason! Just would not come back on, needed to call the call centre for advice still wouldn't work - nightmare! But then a few hours later I tried again & it came back to life & was completely fine! Since then it has been near perfect has gone blank once or twice for no reason but does always come back, but generally its fine for what I need.

The ringtone volume is too quiet & when taking a picture the slightest movement causes extreme blur & the memory for the Inbox for txt's is limited, which is a bit annoying but the archive seems to provide enough space for messages that you want to keep. But you get what you pay for & everyone must realise that. Overall I am happy with it. People tend to love the design when they see it, as they have never seen it before. I'd defiantly look out for an updated improved version if one comes out.

This phone is the worst phone I have ever bought. The twist movement & camera try to help the awfulness but really doesn't. I have only had this phone for 6 months & I am fed up. I has put me off Siemens phones which is a shame because I like the EF81 but don't want to get ripped off like I did with this one.

Overall 4/10

Bad features. Only good thing is the camera. I am on the 'FRESH' network which only makes things worse because I get so little signal you'd think they only had one mast in Nebraska. Anyway, don't buy the phone unless... actually, just don't buy the phone.

Not a truly great phone. When I first got it, I was exited but only 6 months in, im looking for a new phone. The twist design is good but doesn't make any difference to the abysmal features.

I got the SF65 in August 2005 as an upgrade & only paid £50.00 for it. I am not a high use user of my mobile phone but like it to look a bit modern & really wanted a camera phone. This phone is not bad but I will defiantly spend more next time & get a more reliable & better quality phone. The good points are it is very nice looking, I love the swivel screen to activate the camera, it is very hard wearing & has been miss treated & dropped on several occasions but still works. The bad points are I have never been able to use the MMS facility & have called the network provider six times about it, gave up in the end. It turns itself off & complete shuts down for no apparent reason. The navigation key is a bit temperamental & hard to use. The camera quality is very grainy & unclear. The camera will only work in the brightest of conditions. The menu system is dull & could do with more life & colour to it. It is a shame really because it has completely put me off Siemens phones & I will try Motorola or Sony Ericsson next time. Sorry about the long winded review but I needed to get it off my chest.

I love the look & feel of this phone & was so happy to get it in white as it is not a very popular colour for phones. The SF65 is the only white camera phone I have seen, but I haven't searched high & low for them. The camera could be better as I have to make everyone stand completely still when I am taking their photo or else it goes horribly wrong. Like the zoom feature that helps a little bit.

The camera is good on the Siemens SF65 & it can store all my snaps easily. The phone is very chunky which is great for me as I hate flimsy little phones. The keys are very easy to use & it is a joy to send messages on the SF65. Have not used WAP but feel no urgent need to or the USB connection. The twist screen makes it feel a little fragile but apart from that I am really happy with my phone.
