Call time is terrible, if I make one reasonably lengthy call per day I need to charge it every evening. I've had it for over a year now & I guess the lifespan has been reached.

I want to ask this question & please I need anyone to answer me. My z400 when the screen is black & I slide up the phone the screen lights up after the keypad, is that normal or is it a problem with my phone? Please advice.

I agree with you all that the battery life is rubbish, & it should have emoticons on the text messages, & it should have a screensaver as well.
It looks like the modem on mine has broke just recently because it try's to get on the Internet but doesn't & just wastes all my credit trying if anyone has had the same problem let me know, but before it broke it was quite fast to get on the Internet, I love the phone & it is quite impressive but I still haven't got to video call anyone & I do miss the emoticons.

Have never had a problem with the battery life, but then I charge it every night! Don't like the fact that you can't add your own message tone or alarm tones (which are not loud enough to wake me up! ).
I am however, on my 3rd phone the first two lost all sound the first one after 3 months & the second one after three weeks. Just got my 3rd one & am waiting for it to break before I change my phone completely or download anything else! Which is a shame because my D600 was faultless, just got bored with it!

I am ready to throw this phone out of the window. As well as the poor battery life, text alert tone not being changeable, volume not loud enough, absence of camera flash & radio, I find that it doesn't remember things.
If I text & have to spell out a word in T9 mode it doesn't remember it when I go to use it later. & also with regard to texting, when I go to add recipients it only lists 3 numbers, which appear to have been picked completely randomly, so I have to go through my contacts every time.
It doesn't keep my speed dials in its memory. It only remembers 3 out of 7 & the most annoying of all, if you play songs through the folders icon you can only play one song at a time. It takes absolutely ages to set up a play list (transferring one song at a time & each one taking about 10 seconds) & then when you have got it all set up, when you charge your battery all the songs disappear out of your play lists.

Thus phone is BRILL, shame you can't change the message tone BUT the camera is the best camera ever, even though its only 2 mp, it looks like 4! ALSO you can get a memory card for it, so no problems there & the screen is nice & big, so you can view all the pics! & AGAIN there's two cameras-woo!

This phone is great, I love it! But the only problem is that the memory is very low. I can only have 1 song at a time. Other than that it's perfect for me.

Anybody have any answers?

I purchased this phone back in December 2006 & have had nothing but problems with it. As one other reviewer commented, the phone gets really hot while in use. Add this to the humidity that we get here in oz & it's a recipe for disaster! The phone overheats to the point that half the buttons stop functioning. I have to turn it off, wait a few days for it to cool down, before I can use it again. Also the battery life on this phone is ridiculous. Two days is such a pain in the rear to have to be recharging a phone.
All in all, this is one of the worst phones I've purchased, & will definitely be changing back to Nokia, which to this date, I cannot fault.

A rather handsome phone, shame about the battery, only had it since October & it won't hold charge so will have to buy new one. Music speaker could be a lot louder but other than that excellent. Always been a Nokia fan but am now a Samsung convert.

On the whole a good phone - am happy most things, apart from the battery. That's not a huge problem for me as I am able to charge it regularly, but it still is annoying none the less. Also annoys me that the screen is black when the handset is closed - would be good if they showed the time/date/message/missed call etc without having to slide it open or press anything like my D500 did.
Am I happy with it? Reasonably. Would I choose it again? No

Love ya all xxxxxxxxx
Also, I c someone else said about there memory card, I had the exact same problem, first off all always get a SAN DISK memory card, if you transfer stuff on to it & IT doesn't APPERAR OR doesn't PLAY ITS the MEMORY CARD I AD the same problem & I got a well know make memory card & it works fine so if it doesn't show up or deletes it or won't play etc its the memory card not the phone.

Just got a Z400, I was doing my nut in looking for a new phone & it was by accident that I came across this one.
I used to own one of the earlier Samsung clam shells (can't remember the model) & I remember that being a nice solid phone, so I looked at what they had to offer. The Z400 was the one I finally opted for & up to now I haven't been disappointed. The design, if somewhat boyish, is sleek, neat & a joy to use. Not too many complaints there, plus it looks like an expensive piece of kit, not like some of the dross on the market at the moment. The features again are abundant, lots to work with & it satisfies the more ardent gadget junkies, however just a mini gripe, I feel a 3MP camera would make it perfect, but hey the picture quality is superb. The usability of the phone is at first somewhat difficult to get used to & accessing ringtones, etc can be a bit of a pain, but you eventually get the hang of it, however my main gripe is the battery life of the phone, I have to charge it every 2 days & it does get a bit of a drag.
In conclusion without the battery life problems, this phone is near faultless & I feel it punches well above its station against some of the more expensive phones on the market. You couldn't do much better than this phone full stop.

I received this phone a few weeks ago from O2 as an upgrade for my Samsung D600. I knew very little about this phone when offered it but thought I'd give it a try. In terms of looks I think it's better than my D600 but as for features I have been left a little disappointed. There is no flash on the camera. Having only 30 Meg storage on the phone is quite poor, so I went & bought a 1G SanDisk memory card. This worked fine for 1 week & now the phone will not read the card at all. I've not tried using the 3G mode yet but I've heard it does drain the battery quickly so I have kept it on the 2G mode. Having said that battery life doesn't last all that long all that on 2G anyway. One other issue I found is with locking of images files. There are 9 images on the phone including 2 of Chelsea FC that can not be deleted. Not being a Chelsea fan I find this is quite annoying.

I obtained this phone about a week ago generally I am very happy with it. But a few gripes with it like the operator logo you cannot delete like in the d500 which I have now given to my daughter. The text display when you text is a bit babyish as it gives you a line in-between your texts which I do not like. Again the camera is okay but no flash what! Didn't realise this I want by d500 back. Also how do you turn off the 3g as I do not use the video calling service only wanted it because it looked sleek oh well cannot have the best of both worlds.

Hi, I am now on my 2nd one of these phones due to the 1st being faulty. I like the theory behind the phone but in practice it's a bit different. The battery life is poor even when turning off the 3G. I have also purchased a memory card however cannot seem to save any information on to it. The phone guide gives no guidance & I have tried moving & copying files but they don't seem to appear on the memory card. This is very annoying as the memory on this phone is tiny. Has anyone figured out how this works yet? Any help greatly appreciated.
I have placed features & usability low as I cannot figure out how to use it! Thanks

Signal is poor.
Ring volume is not very loud.
Battery is poor.
No camera flash.
No Radio.
Looks aside this has not been a good upgrade from my Sony S700i. Due to the poor signal & ring volume I may exchange before the 14 days expires.

Beware if you're from South Africa & contracted to Vodacom. Their "Vodalive" software download causes the phone to lose some of its features like among others, the vibration mode when a call connects or drops. Problem is that the reps in the local stores don't tell you about it when you purchase the handset & when you eventually find out that these features are deleted the phone is second hand. I had a two week battle with Vodacom to restore the handset to its original status, unsuccessfully. Pity, because apart from that the little phone is fine.

I got mine 3 days ago on contract with Vodafone. I do like it but I'm on my second one already! First one had some small metal pieces falling off near the rear (main) camera & the videophone camera was misaligned (off-centre). I got this exchanged but the new ones going back tomorrow because the top half of the slider is loose & moves about 1 to 2mm left to right when closed - not good!
The mp3 player is ok but not brilliant as there is noticeable distortion at anything over 60% volume (which isn't that loud by the way). Also the sound is very flat & lacks base when not using the equalizer.
When you are using it for any length of time it does get pretty warm (almost hot in fact), I think this is because the battery forms part of the case & is directly under the illuminated number keys, so I'm guessing the backlight & the fact that this is wrapped in your hand is the cause. I'm not sure whether to go for the W810i. Reviews on this site say it is ok but it also suffers from distortion, is this simply a trait for music based phones? The Z400 does have loads of good features though, like picsel viewer that lets you store & read word docs, emails, html & excel spreadsheets, & you can zoom right in with fantastic quality. The camera is good too & so are the games, internet & the fact that with Vodafone you can have mobile Sky TV.
I dunno maybe I've just been unlucky so far, might give one more a go.

Hi Clare here & I just want to say this phone is rock solid. Class looking phone with good size & weight, it's only 18.8 mm thick or thin.... whatever way you want to look at it. It's pure class designed by Samsung yet again. I luv Samsung phones & have owned 3 that have been super phones. I will take full advantage of the 2 MP camera that's got a digital zoom & luv video recording. I am young & funki & need to feel the music on the move so the music player will be rockin. 3G & Bluetooth are key for me & so is talk time as I like to have a chat, he he he. I am bursting to have a video calling phone, I will never put the phone down.
