I have had my Samsung Soul for around 14 months now & I must say I am one of the lucky ones to have got a good one! After reading some of these reviews, I agree it does scratch easily on the back but that's my own fault for not being careful with it. At first, it took a while to get used to the touch pad but now it's great! I usually upgrade my phone every 12 months but to be honest I have not seen anything on the market that I like & my Samsung Soul has been so reliable & with decent spec, there's nothing out there to tempt me to change it! I hate all these touch screen phones that have not so good cameras, so, no folks! I will not be getting rid of my trusty old U900 for a while! I am luvvin' it! X.

I think this phone has very good features but lacks the battery power to run them!
I am currently on my 6th one now as Orange will not offer me another make or model. The main flaw to the phone is battery power, I previously had a Sony Ericsson C510 which was much better, more reliable & battery lasted three days! Listening to music & with the Bluetooth permanently switched on. I had wanted a soul for months & when I could afford one it was a very bad decision!
I do not recommend this handset to anyone! Also it scratches very easily :(.

As many people have discovered, the Samsung Soul seems like a brilliant phone at first glance, however the longer you have it, the more & more problems you encounter.
I have had many problems with this phone, starting with periods of complete shutdown. The phone, even with signal, will not allow receiving or sending of calls or texts. Secondly the buttons around the touch screen occasionally stop working meaning you can't access the phone. Then there is the problem with charging, if your phone dies it will not charge for hours as it flickers & goes off then on! When you finally get it to charge, the battery life doesn't last, the most I have got from it recently is about 10 hours that is without making many calls or texts.
Other annoying glitches the phone comes with is the limited message space. If a message comes through & the inbox is full it flashes up with a delete message icon but as you try it won't let you delete!
I have never had such a bad phone, I bought the Tocco Ultra for £200 as I was still in the middle of my contract, but it has to be said, this wasn't the best phone either as it broke after about 4 months of having it.
I would not recommend the Samsung Soul or Tocco at all!

The phone is gorgeous, & on the face of it seemed really easy to use, I've always had Nokia's so had a store demo of the Soul before deciding to switch to Samsung at upgrade time. Got mine & had no major problems at first & felt that the little problems I noticed were things I would get used to with time & I just had to adapt to the Samsung way of doing things.
However, I've read down the reviews below & noticed a pattern. People LOVE this phone when they've had it a few days, & then progress to HATE once it's had time to develop its gremlins. These seem to be fairly standard, my comments on the main issues raised are below.
Mine now (after 4 months) goes black every time I receive a call & has to be turned off & on again after each call to restore the screen. Obviously there's also no way to see who's ringing you before you answer because of this glitch.
Sending texts gets harder & harder thanks to the insane way the T9 dictionary works on this phone (don't think this is a general Samsung thing). It adds any combination of letters & numbers you type to the dictionary (even when you do this letter by letter rather than using the 'spell' function) & then brings these additions up as the top selections for those keys. As such, I now get 'yous' every time I want to type 'your', 'bb6' every time I want to write 'can', 'HQ', then 'Hq', then 'hq', then finally the word 'is' & so on. It's incredibly frustrating, & if you've carried on without noticing you have to go back, delete the whole word & start again. It's handy that it remembers things for you, but would make way more sense for them to come up as later selections. Otherwise though the texting seems to be fairly standard & I don't have any trouble with adding recipients or sending messages like others have mentioned.
It is quiet when it rings, even on maximum, but I haven't encountered too many problems because of this, & I've had no trouble so far hearing people I am speaking to on the phone.
Missed calls don't always seem to be displayed on the screen, but I haven't had enough where this has happened to work out if this is because I've accidentally cleared them, or if they go off after a certain amount of time or something.
Having to have the slide up to use the camera is the cause of the problems people encounter with the camera in my opinion. The camera button is simply in the wrong place once the phone is open to enable you to hold it steady & press the button. It would make much more sense to be able to take photos with the phone closed as it is 'camera shaped' then & weight balanced.
The battery life is poor, but mine seems to be standard for Samsungs & nowhere near as bad as others describe (I get about 2 or 3 days to a charge, but don't make a large volume of calls). Once it gets low you have to charge it sharpish though as it goes from one notch to dead in no time (& god forbid you should want to use it while the battery is on one notch! ), & being somewhere with no signal kills it quick too. I expect this will only get worse as it gets older, as with all phone batteries, but to date it's manageable & I haven't encountered the severe overheating issue at all.
It's a rant, but think that's the point of leaving a review! I am not impressed & am seriously debating paying to get a different phone as sending these off for repair doesn't seem to have any effect & I have 14 months of contract to go.

This is a great phone if you want it buy it.
It is awesome I've had it for a while now & nothing happened, I even dropped it in the snow & nothing happened & its pink, it is said that the pink one gets scratched easily & mine is the pink one! & the camera is great apart from when the flash is on it is too bright.
Recommend it for everyone.

Just to say I've just got rid of my phone & upgraded to a Tocco Ultra, & thank goodness for that.
I had the Soul for just over 16 months & at first was well pleased with it, however, after a few weeks I found it to be awkward & unreliable. The touch navigation screen was a pain to use. Unless you had small fingers, it was so easy to miss the icons & end up doing something else!
Like it was mentioned before, the camera acted on a five/ten second delay, so the picture you wanted wasn't the picture you got, a real pain.
Another thing was the very low volume, I have missed many calls by simply not hearing the phone ring, & the volume was on full. In the end I had to keep the phone in my pocket when out & about, with the vibration on also. Not ideal.
Battery life was abysmal, needing to be charged daily, & when you were in a poor network reception area, the constant searching for a signal by the phone ensured the battery bars on the screen started to vanish disturbingly quickly.
Now I am the owner of a different phone, although the same manufacturer, this one is a massive improvement, so I wouldn't advise anyone to get the Soul unless you want to keep your sanity.
2 out of 5.

I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I have has this phone since March & I am now on my 7th one. This phone is unreliable & does nothing that it says it does. I have had so many problems with this phone it's unreal. Orange have sent me out a replacement phone every time & still it carries on to fail. They have now offered me the G600, which is a downgrade & from the sound of it is just as bad. Has anyone else had problems with this phone & Orange not wanting to give a replacement handset that will actually work & is up to the same spec? Help : (.

Hi, I am looking at this phone & thinking it's wonderful, I haven't got it yet, but am looking to, I am not sure now cause of all your Bad & Good reviews. I am put off the phone now, but I still want it! I don't know what to do, I've been through my fair share of phones, But this one, It's different & I like it, But I am not so sure about it now, If I get it all these problems that people are talking about will happen, & I have to go back & get a new one my Dad will crack up.
What network are all these problems happening on, Is it just one network or all of them, Is it the colour of the phone, Is it only the grey one or is it all of the models?
I don't know? I don't want to be wasting my money on something that is going to break within a month.

This phone is terrible & is on its way back to Orange in exchange for an LG. The first Samsung phone I have owned, it looked really good with all the features it offers. Owning one is somewhat different. After a few weeks the magic touch navigation screen proved how magic it was when it completely disappeared & never came back. Now it makes some of the features impossible to use because with no icons you have no idea what you're pressing. The second major problem cropped up a few weeks after that when the screen started to go blank if you receive an incoming call. No way of avoiding those 'not so important calls' that we all need to do from time to time when we're busy.
The next problem I've found with it is the battery life is horrendous, you'd be lucky to get a day out of it before you get that annoying 'low battery' bleep. I don't use my phone to excess (problem making about 2 to 3 calls a day & sending about 7 or 8 texts) this phone can't seem to cope with this without needing to be charged every day.
My last gripe is the camera, it is so user unfriendly. When you have the phone slid upwards to take a picture, it feels top heavy like it's going to fall out of your hand so you can't keep it steady to gain a good picture. Once you do click the take picture button, the picture you get is not the one you took which is really odd. It feels like you have to hold it in position for about 10 seconds before you get the picture. I just don't use the camera anymore now.
Anyway rant over, it is walking the walk & good riddance!

This phone is great for a few months. After this it's terrible. Anything that could break & stop working will. If you want this phone get it with a good warranty or get insurance for it because 9 times out of 10 it will break. Other than that it's great! :).

Hey everybody! Okay, I can't really give a totally accurate review on this phone, because I don't own it (yet) ;). I have to say, the moment I saw this phone I wanted it! It looks so stylish & cool & the fact that it was both a touch screen with a keypad was definitely a bonus for me!
So today, I decided to go in to a phone store & ask if I could have a demo of the phone, because I desperately wanted to have a go of it for myself! So this nice lady got it out for me & I had a play around.
My overall impression? BRILLIANT! I want it even more now! (But sadly, I can only upgrade in March.
So, I'd noticed that on some of your reviews, you'd been saying that the texting is rubbish, so I asked the lady about it & she basically looked at me like I was crazy! She showed me the messaging screen & stuff, & I honestly don't understand what the problem is! Some people have been saying that there's no back & erase button? But there is! It's on the touch screen! At the bottom on the right! So if you're using the keypad while you're texting, if you make an error, you just tap the backspace arrow on the touch screen & VOILA! So I was a bit confused there! :S But yeah, I had a go, & it's so easy & quick! Definitely no problems with the texting in my opinion!
I did notice, however, that the phone seems a bit slow at first when it's first switched on (I mean in terms of the touch screen & dragging the widgets about & stuff) but after it had warmed up, it was brilliant! I was having so much fun messing with the touch screen!
So yeah, overall, I am now very depressed because I NEED this phone. Of course my review is probably pretty useless because I've only had a demo of the phone, but so far, it looks great! WANT WANT WANT!
Rated 50% as phone not owned by the reviewer.

I have had this phone for some months & I hate it! I love all the functions it has, & which (with the exception of the camera) work well, but as far as ease of use is concerned it is inefficient & annoying to an amazing degree.
Basically it just doesn't do as it is told. Despite adjustment the touch pad just has a mind of its own. Every selection has to be repeated several times before it actually does what you want it to do. This function also sends text messages before they are completely written, or sends them to the wrong people, because the touch screen is so sensitive. This can prove embarrassing to say the least.
The camera despite having a higher pixel count than my last phone, is so complex to use that the resulting pictures are nowhere near as good.
I loved my last Samsung phone. I can't wait for my contract to run out on this one so I can have a more user friendly model.

This is without doubt the worst phone I have ever used, the vibration is so low I am forever missing calls & the speaker volume is extremely weak the usability of the key pad & touch screen are market leaders in their failure to perform. Texting with this phone is a nightmare but that may be generic to all Samsungs. I am out of contract in 2 months & can't wait to get back to Nokia.

All in all, a rubbish phone & I would not recommend it to anyone! DO NOT BUY THIS WHATEVER YOU DO.

This phone was great till I started having problems & my network Orange couldn't really help & the phone shop tried to buy me out my contract. Has anyone had any problems with their touch screen? My touch screen menu is no longer a menu, it's blank & makes the odd reappearance. Has anyone had any problems when receiving calls? the odd time my phone has rang but the screen has been empty so you have no idea who is ringing you & also I can't reset the pho0ne as the standard password 00000000 doesn't work & I haven't out a password on myself, if anyone can help write back if you can.

I thought nothing of it.until about four days ago when my phone has now gone black & the lights come on but no picture. It freezes all the time & many of my friends have had the same problems.

Had this phone since January & still love it, the only issue I have is that my display on main screen has become distorted so the helpful people at Samsung are going to repair it for me.
When I read the reviews the main problem that came up was the volume or rather lack of it, after 5 minutes of receiving the phone I found how to resolve this problem. Set your profile etc the go into your files & select any song & play, whilst it is playing turn the volume up on the side of the phone & hey presto! Your phone will ring to that volume from there on. Simple.
The features on this are great & easy to use without a manual. I love the option to change your theme I play with this when bored on in waiting rooms etc.

The camera is amazing, I mean it's 5megapixels & the pictures are just as good as my digital camera.
I have had the problem with the screen going blank when I get an incoming call but I don't find it much of a problem as it soon comes back again & when someone's ringing you you're not doing anything but pressing the pickup button are you?
It is really good & personally would recommend it to anyone.

A sleek phone. It's my third mobile from Samsung after D880 & stick with Samsung. I can't change it. Got my U900 just yesterday. Everything is just perfect. The only fault I have, is like other users, sometimes when I get a call the screen goes blank! loved the camera. & it also has anti shake option which is very good. The sleek touch pad is great.

I have had this phone a day, & if I had read some of these reviews first, maybe I wouldn't have picked it for my upgrade. I loved my Samsung D900i, & after 18 months was due a free upgrade, & as I have three Samsung phones in the past, went with this.
Certainly so far not disappointed with the style, the menu is the same as my old phone, have to say the camera isn't as easy to use as the D900i, but quality is great. Hopefully I will not get the blank screen which appears the happen to a few people.
The touch pad was a tad annoying at first, it makes things whizz past & you save setting that you don't want saving, but that is probably user error. Call volume on my phone is fine, as the D900i wasn't the loudest in the world.
AS I have this phone for 18 months before my next upgrade let's hope it doesn't let me down.

I had to get it changed through contract but the replacement was useless as well & now today they have sent yet another one out. Had this phone for nearly 12 months & think it's an OK phone. Used to love my D600 & thought it was going to be the same with a few extra bits. To tell you the truth not much has changed.
I love the touch pad that's a cool idea.
The camera is great but it does take a long time to take a photo, especially of the children.
I save everything to my memory card & connect that to my laptop instead of the phone. To tell you the truth I've never tried.
The ear piece volume is pants but there is a quick fix dated around May 2008 I think. But if you ever turn your phone off it resets the volume back to the default settings.
Apart from that a good little phone.

I have had this phone for a good 6 to 7 months now & the novelty has just worn off. It's a good phone, ringtones are clear, easy to navigate through the menu's & the camera takes very high quality photos although the video player is quite pants.
The only things I am not keen on are when the battery gets low, you try to make a call or text it switches off which is understandable but when you switch it back on expecting maybe 5 minutes extra it doesn't happen, it switches on long enough to tell you it's a Samsung soul, then switches back off again. Not handy.
Sometimes the phone falls behind when your scanning the menus & flicks back to main menu when you haven't finished writing a text. Very frustrating especially if you're in a hurry. I like the uniqueness of the touchpad menu where you can change your shortcuts & the colour of the menu & cursor, I am easily entertained, I think that's all.
Other than that it's a very clever, & stylish phone.

Just got this phone at the weekend, have to say I am loving it so far! My last phone was the Sony Ericsson K850i, which had a good camera, but every other feature was annoying to say the least, so it's great to have a phone that doesn't send blank messages when I am making a call or take pictures in my bag.
The Samsung's screen is really user friendly, & the touch panel is easier to use & less fiddly than you'd think. The menu buttons are appropriate to whichever function you use, & the camera is good, although so far I've only been able to make the flash either blind people (so have mainly ghosts in my pictures) or go off completely, but I think this is my fault for not spending more time figuring it out.
The design is great, it feels solid & sturdy but not to chunky or heavy, & the buttons have a nice feel to them.
Its only downfall is the battery life, which to be honest is rubbish. I had the radio function on going to work the other day when the battery was full, & by the evening it was totally empty & switched itself off, however I have no problem charging it most evenings if necessary.

I have just recently got this phone as an upgrade. It is a phone that I have wanted for ages & I must admit after reading some of the reviews on this site I started to have my doubts. However as I have a 7 day return I decided to go for it & so far I have not regreted it.
I have no problems with the ring tone volume infact I have needed to turn it down it was so loud. Texting is brilliant & the features are fantastic.
I feel that the people who have had problem have had an unfortunate experience but I would recommend this phone to everyone.

I just got this phone the other day & I am really pleased with it. I text loads & it is really nice to text with. Volume is all fine as well & I love the touch screen. I just have a couple of questions in case anyone knows the answer. If you have typed a word in the text & you want to highlight it to change it to another word or make it have a capital letter at the beginning is there a quick way to do this. Also, can you access your list of words that you have spelt & therefore added to the phone's dictionary in case you want to delete a word from it. Thanks if anyone can help.

I would rate this phone as OK not as I would expected, the phone is not enabled with smilie's or animations, but you can get pass this by asking friends & family to send you picture messages yes I know it's shameful but that's the only way you can get them on. I have had my phone freeze once but took it back to the Vodafone shop & they took the SIM out & put the same on back in & so far nothing as gone wrong. The ring volume isn't as loud as I thought & I wish I didn't get this on contract oh well another 17 months to go LOL. The good things about it is that it is of a nice design & its light & not bulky but if you want little extras to your phone think twice before you buy this.

Hey. I have had this phone for around two weeks. It is already causing me a lot of problems! It looks great & many of the features are also great, however as a lot of you have mentioned the volume levels are extremely poor! Also I have had problems with the phone going blank when I receive incoming calls! Is it supposed to do that?! I can't see who is calling me which is a huge problem!
I have also had problems connecting the phone to my PC. The files on my memory card are not visible on my PC but they are on the phone. Anyone know why that is?

To Anisha, to get rid of the call connect & end tones, go to settings in the menu & choose call settings, choose all calls then>& go to option 6 call status tones, un tick call connect & call end tone & that should help. Will need to check on the message tone you mentioned.

I finally received my phone from Orange last Thursday (after they sent me the wrong phone & I had to send it back & wait until they had received it back before sending the right one out! )
I love it, it's pink & looks good. Had a few problems with making & receiving calls to start with. Called Orange & adjusted the network settings & all seems OK since then. No problems with call volume & no issue with removing the back cover, had a Nokia 6300 previously & found that slightly more difficult. Comparing 6300 & Samsung sound quality, Samsung is definitely more tinny but I can live with that. However, I am experiencing exactly the same problem as a few other users whereas occasionally. The main screen goes blank! I am hearing a call come in but there is nothing at all displayed on the main screen! I have to switch it off & back on again to get any response. Could anyone advise as to whether they have reported this issue & had it resolved by any provider? I love this phone but am not willing to put up with the screen issue so if it's an ongoing problem would rather get it sorted now. Thanks.

I have had this phone for about 3 months & it was working perfectly, then one day the battery life was getting down more & more, & every time I charged it I noticed how hot the phone was getting! & also when I was having a phone call the phone itself would heat up loads! After a couple of days my battery was lasting about 2 hours after being fully charged. I rang up & got sent another phone exactly the same to find the same problem occurring. To cut a long story short & another 5 phones later, I still have the same problem & Orange refuses to give me a different model! & I am stuck in the contract.

This phone is simply amazing. I don't understand some bad review it's getting. I got mine 2 days ago, & I haven't accounted any problems with it. The call sound is pretty impressive & clear. It has loud enough speakers. It has all the features you possibly will need, or bother to use. Great design, stylish & it is cool. Love the touch screen in the middle & the fact you can change the colours is pretty attractive.
I have no problems with it. To be honest I can't stop starring at it LOL. It's really that good looking I would say, especially dark silver. I need to say thought, the battery life could be better. But not a big deal for me.
The camera is pretty good. I wouldn't compare it with a Nokia phone, but good enough. It's pretty good in daylight, but at night not so good, but its satisfactory. If you buy this phone, probably is more because it's stylish & fun, rather because of its camera. I would suggest anyone to buy this phone. It's really great. Don't expect Nokia's quality of tasks & camera. But I personally chose it because of the feel is has. Feels really strong & built with excellent quality. & simply more fun to use.
The flash is okay bad away. I was impressed with the video recording. Pretty good.
I would give the overall score to this phone a 9, really great handset.

I have moved from a Nokia E65 but only because I fancied a change. I like slide phones & this one fits the bill nicely.
Only had it 1 day, so will give it time for the above mentioned issues, but so far so good.
- Call volume is fine, both ring tone, & speech.
- Battery life so far is fine.
- Looks great.
Several reviewers have mentioned phone book transfer by blue tooth to car phones. I have a blackberry as well which does Bluetooth the phonebook. My E65 never did, & annoyed me constantly. This one transferred the information first time with no prompting. Perfect.
I think the only really annoying thing is the one size fits all charging, data, headphone socket with its special connector. I mean why? What is the point?
It used to bug me that the E65 had a dedicated connector for headphones etc, which means you can't plug it into speakers, but at least it had a separate socket for power.
My blackberry has a standard audio outlet, & a mini USB for charging & data. What is wrong with that?
Anyway, on the whole so far I love my new phone & would recommend it.
Cheers Nick.

A potentially fantastic phone let down by unpolished interface design. I got the black version from Orange UK, & immediately loaded the original firmware to get rid of all Orange's irritating add on's & get the original menus & options back so it's basically an unbranded EU version now (other than the ugly Orange logo on the back, of course).
The phone looks & feels awesome. No problems with battery cover if you follow the instructions & use the palm of your hand. Supplied ringtones are quiet so just replace them with louder ones & crank up the volume. The touch screen is very cool & works great once you get used to it, the touch sensitivity & vibrating feedback is very nice. Build quality is great. Call volume is quiet but better if you hold the phone at exactly the right place on your ear. Message alert tone is easy to change if you read the manual or explore the menus. So, most of the major annoyances mentioned above are fixable. Battery life is not great but as good as you can expect from a slim 3G phone with a lot of power hungry features.
There are a lot of good features (I particularly like IMAP email with interval polling) & the camera & music player are competent enough. The ability to upload photos, videos & text to blogs & so on will be nice for social networking addicts, I guess, though they better have a fat wallet for those data charges.
The browser is not bad but I installed Opera mini as soon as I got the phone because nothing else comes close.
The ability to use Flash Lite 2 intelligent wallpapers is really great.
But now the bad bits.
- I got used to the customisable icon bar on my Nokia 6300 home screen, going back to only four shortcuts on the Samsung home page feels like a huge step back. Yes, the Orange firmware had an ugly white bar of preselected (& Orange services biased) icons but that was way too ugly & inflexible & had to go.
- There is a lot of unnecessary duplication of function between hard keys & touch keys. On the home screen, for example, the left soft key & the centre touch screen icon both take you to the main menu & this cannot be changed, why not put a customisable shortcut menu on one or the other? There is a lot of this; especially with OK & back buttons duplicated; wasting precious interface real estate.
- A dedicated video calling button is a waste of a whole button if you don't use video calling & buttons are too precious a resource to waste on a phone.
- You can't download your own themes to the phone & the onboard theme editor is too limited to be useful. You can't change any icons or change the home screen font or icon colours as far as I can tell. For a phone that was marketed on the basis that you could make it your own the lack of ability to download themes or customise them completely is inexcusable. The ability to change the touch-screen colour is nice but does not make up for lack of good theme support.
- You can't change the font size for viewing or editing text messages which is just irritating as the font is pretty big.
- A flagship phone should have Wi-Fi these days.
- the phone uses a special USB connector or charger port, why can't phone manufacturers stick to using standard mini or micro USB ports so I don't have to carry a spare cable everywhere with me.
- You can't transfer Java applets to the phone via USB or Bluetooth, they have to be downloaded from the Internet. Even if you know how to store them online & get them back you still incur data transfer costs for the privilege of loading your own Java stuff onto your own phone.
- When sending texts if you close the slide before it has sent the text it sends but stays in the outbox so you don't know if it's sent or not. This is just silly.
- You can unlock the phone without opening the slide but have to open & close the slide to lock it again.
- It just feels that the interface designers got halfway through developing this phone then just released it without any serious usability testing. Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson & now Apple seem to have (finally) grasped the importance of well polished interfaces but it looks like Samsung lag a decade behind in this respect.
It's a pity because with a bit more work on the interface, proper theme support & a standard USB port this phone could have been perfect. As it stands there are just too many stupid irritations & despite its great look & feel, IMAP support & a 5MP camera I still prefer any of my last 3 phones to this one.

I got this phone a few months back now, after reading many reviews of this phone & others. I really like it & am so glad I got it. It's really easy to use, & I found, after not having a touch screen before, very easy to get used to. I like the fact that not it's not all touch screens like some other phones.
Good points I have found are.
- the camera is very good, despite comments saying it tkes bad quality pictures (it doesn't! )
- You can personalise the layout & design to almost anything you want.
- Really easy to navigate around, although I find Samsung's are all like this.
As lots of people have said, the ringing volume does start off very quite & then suddenly gets louder, I don't know why it does it. I don't find the volume too much of a problem but it could annoy some people. I also don't really like the MP3 player on the phone. Songs I upload are not always recognised so it does not play or display the song title & artist. If you're looking for a good music player I wouldn't really recommend it.
Apart from these minor points, I love this phone!

Hi there Samsung phone users, I have got two batteries to try, from my network provider, sent the other back for testing, I am sure hopefully it will do the trick with the overheating problems. The answer I am looking for though is, is it OK for the back to heat up when using the Internet? & on calls of over twenty minutes? This has occurred from day one. I am beginning to really like this phone as I am getting used to handling it & I hate the thought that it is going to break down or become harmful somehow with the heat bit. I have learned to play games on this quiet nicely now. I haven't learnt to use the camera yet or got round to the radio & music side of things, so I can't comment on that. The 3G is great & the Internet works well. Texting is nice & easy. So, the heating bit? Please, is it normal for this type of phone? Many thanks.

I got my Samsung Soul as a replacement for a Tocco which was faulty. The Soul is a fantastic phone & much much more. In response to some of the comments left by others, Rachel, you can alter the touch panels sensitivity, which I had to do as it appeared slow, it is much better now, I guess it depends on how gentle you are. I also like the way that you can personalise so much on this phone, including the touch panel icons & the colours. There was one lady who was annoyed that if she closed the phone when sending a text that it would stop, this is a function that you can change, I had the same problem & now I have altered it to continue sending texts if I shut the phone, it works fine. I also have an 8 gigabyte card in my phone & it works fine too. The camera takes fantastic pictures & has more functions on than I would need. I have taken video as well as stills & it works just as well. Very very happy with it, after the minor glitch with the Tocco, I am so very happy that I have stayed with Samsung & I LOVE THIS PHONE (& no they are not paying me to say it! ).

Whilst texting the letters came out as numbers, & saved themselves like that, was always comes up as 927, very very annoying. I have not even had the phone 5 months, the colour on the screen has totally gone, & is very blurry & the sound has completely gone, I can hear nothing. People can hear me but I get nothing therefore my alarm doesn't work either, also very annoying I have been really disappointed with this phone as all Samsungs I've had in the past have been great. I agree the caller volume is very quiet & it is sometimes impossible to hear & no I am not deaf. I am taking this phone to an O2 shop tomorrow to see what they say. I have this phone in pink, had it for a few months now. It's really fantastic to look at & has some amazing features, but is a big letdown for the main thing that this is actually used for making a phone call. I only need the slightest bit of background noise & I can't hear my caller at all. Quite frankly am rather insulted by some peoples comments saying that there is nothing wrong with the volume & we must be deaf, or offering advice to turn the volume up, do you not think we have tried this? Clearly this is a fault with the phone or the software & maybe the later versions have had this problem sorted out. I'll be sending mine back to Samsung soon to try & get it fixed or get a replacement as I can't deal with the volume problem any longer. The volume of ringtones etc is not an issue, it's just trying to hear my caller. I've been really disappointed as design wise this is the phone I've been waiting for a long time.
Again it should be said that this phone does have some fantastic features, but personally I would rather lose some of these & be able to make a phone call without any problems. I also have the problems with very poor battery life & the phone over heating if I use it for a long time.
For the person who was having trouble changing the message alerts, you need to do it when setting up your profiles, go to settings & phone profiles, then when you go in to edit them, scroll over to the right to the message icon & you can change your message alerts there, hope this helps.

The phone is heating up when I use the Internet so there must be a fault with my Samsung u900, hence the reason I am not happy at the moment, I am hoping for a replacement soon, also not so good for gaming, a manual phone is a better option if you like playing mobile phone games. Scrolling the Internet could prove a tedious time for a professional using it a lot for business & so on. If I hadn't already obtained this phone I would have got a Sony Ericsson manual style phone for reliability. Of course when I get a replacement which doesn't heat up when using the Internet this phone might prove otherwise & I would be glad to have a phone I am happy to use & can feel comfortable with. I hope & pray I will grow to love this phone when it's working properly. I don't normally whinge about my phones & grow to love them when they work well. My previous contract phone was a Sony Ericsson w660i which I still love & has never overheated. In time maybe this will grow on me. For those having trouble with setting up the clock & backlights etc, simply look through the menu for assistance or call customer services. All the best.

I have had this phone for a couple of months. Looks great & easy to send texts.
Camera isn't as good as my previous Sony Ericsson but not a big deal really.
It's easy to add music & the radio sound is OK but you have to use the headphones provided because the aerial is attached.
The big downside for me is the sound quality during phone calls. It's OK when you use the headphones or the speaker but I don't think everyone else would appreciate being party to my call. I used to make calls in the morning on the way to work but to be honest it's too difficult to hear what is being said due to the traffic. Was never a problem with my old phone. I tried to speak to the bank one day & had to borrow someone else's phone because I couldn't hear the menu options to get through to the correct department. To be honest I wish I'd returned the phone as soon as I got it.
If you are happy using your phone for texts then I'd recommend it but if you make a lot of calls I'd say look elsewhere.

I LOVE this phone! Had it for nearly a month & it's been the best one.
The only downside I would say is that the battery life is not so good, & I have to charge it every other day. Although this might be to do with the fact that I use my phone so much :).
I love the fact you can put your background as a slideshow, & totally change the layouts & profiles of the phone. I don't get what people are saying about sliding the back off, & the sound being really low, I've had no problems with them!
Another downside is that when I sometimes make a spelling error in a text (which is quite often), the backspace & the send button are next to each other, so I sometimes end up sending either a text making no sense, or a text that I didn't think sounded right.
Overall, a great phone, Samsung has to be one of the best manufacturers.

It's pretty easy to use & I like the create your own profile features. I do wish it had a slider tone. That's one thing I miss on it.
Camera seems OK, I don't really use the camera phone a lot.
Used it with the earphones that came with it to listen to my music & thought it was really good quality.
I do keep going into the wrong menus using the touch pad but I think that is due to my long nails & the fact my previous phone was the LG Viewty & I keep touching the screen forgetting I now have to press a different area.
Overall I am very pleased with this phone.

This is an update to my last review in which I complained about the battery life of the phone. It is since been for repair, they said it was a software problem, it was away for 10 days & was no different on return, I then went online again & read a review which said the backlight drains your battery, I at the time had my backlight on all the time, I switched to a 1 second stay on time & the result is fantastic. Battery is now lasting at least 3 days & I have it on 24 7, brilliant so pleased as I love the phone. What a pity no-one at Vodafone hit on this. All I got when I rang them was either been kept on hold or being cut off, not good enough.

I have just returned my Samsung Soul after struggling with it for a week. Very disappointing as the phone looks & feels great. One problem is with Bluetooth. It connects with the in car system in our Mercedes but drops calls & the phonebook & log won't upload to the car. My old Motorola worked seamlessly.
Also, battery life is total rubbish, even after letting it run down completely the first few times I charged it. Case scratches easily & I found navigation with the touch screen rather slower than I am used to. I need a phone that primarily works as a phone. This one's not for me!

I have had this phone for a few months & it has everything I need.
It has a better camera than the Nokia 6500 slide as the pictures came out blurred if the subject was moving (not good if taking pictures of the kids). The Samsung does not have this problem.
The only problem I have found is during a call it the sound can disappear, a buzzing sound comes on & then the call disconnects. I haven't moved during the call & the reception is still there. I ring back & everything seems fine. If anyone knows the cause of this & if anything can be done I would be grateful if you could let me know.
Other than that it has been a great phone.

I upgraded to this phone after having the Samsung D900 which I loved. The new Samsung lived up to my expectations & the new touch screen is a unique feature. It is handy having a vibrate function with the screen so you know when you've touched the button.
Some of my friends find it difficult to use as they keep trying to roll on the screen like you would on an iPod! After you get used to the functions it is a good addition.
The only slight downside to the touch screen is that when you are on the phone you sometimes press a button with your cheek! It doesn't cut you off or anything like that, it'll just open up a menu when you're on the phone, it might panic some people when it vibrates on your face!
If you like Samsung phones & have had the D900 & D600 or even D500 then this is the natural progression from those.
Toughness wise, I actually dropped this phone in a car park the first week I had it (typical! ), it bounced quite well on the concrete & didn't really scratch at all! The only bad point is that the back plastic battery cover does seem to get tiny scratches on it quite easily, this is out of sight though on the back!
Overall I would recommend this phone! It is easy to use. Looks smart & stylish & modern.

Had this phone for a good 4 to 5 months? Love it but all of a sudden the screen will randomly go black but it will still be on & work & the only way to get rid of this is to switch it on & off again & sometimes that doesn't even work! Even more often the touch panel will go black for days but it will still work but you just can't see the icons! Then randomly days later it will work come back on again!

Far too many moaners out there! Volume is great, especially if you use your own MP3 as both ringtone & text alert. I have no problems hearing mine. Design & features are brilliant & trust me, I grew up with mobiles including the original brick style. Only complaint to date really is that Bluetooth on hands-free car kits will not recognize phone book so is unable to connect fully. Am still working on this so if anybody knows a way round it then POST!

I ordered Nokia 6220 classic & returned because of design & not user friendly. Replace to Samsung U900 (soul). This is an amazing phone more than expectation. First impression is the Design then ease of use next is the functions availability, & the battery life sound & camera quality! Really recommend to buy. I got with 8GB memory card, meant it supports 8GB.
Overall my satisfaction is 99%. Please DON'T EXPECT. Any mobile phone comes with Camera cannot equal to a Digital camera, Loud Sound cannot equal to a mini HiFi & Battery cannot equal to a car battery. Thanks.

I have just tried Doug's advice (21st May) for turning up ringtone volume & it works (thanks Doug). Battery life does seem to run out quite quick & all I get on the FM radio is interference (using an adapter & headphones which did not come with U900). Do you have to use U900's own headphones to get proper reception?
Apart from these problems I have been quite happy with the phone itself for the three days I have had it.

In the past few weeks I have been getting a few problems, when I go on the Internet the phone gets very hot, sometimes even to hot to hold, & the touch panel freeze's a lot when using the net. Hey, I have had this phone for over a week now & I can't really fault it at all, looks great, works great when you get used to its set up, one problem I do have is accessing the dictionary to delete words in it, for example when I type you with predictive text I get 968 & always have to change it, does anyone know how to delete from the T9 dictionary? Apart from that it's a great phone, & people saying it gets scratched, well? What phone doesn't, buy a cover for 6.99 or a sock for it, I am happy with mines.

I think the phone looks great (although I prefer black but graphite was only available on my network)the camera is great & the touch screen is good although I think the whole of the front of the phone should be touch screen as first of all its slightly confusing that the touch screen is so sensitive. I think it would have made more sense to have it all touch screen but that isn't an issue that's just my opinion. I didn't find the sound quality on the music player as good as most reviews said. I found that when making a call the person on the other end either sounds far away or they can't hear me because of the distance between the speaker & ear piece, its clearer for both to speak with the phone slid down. I like the way you can customise the phone. You can change the wallpaper & set it so it stays a theme throughout each menu, you can change the colours of virtually anything & also the touch screen. I think the phone overall is great, I would change the ringtones & the sound quality but that's about it. Overall I think it's a great phone, I have always been a fan of Samsung's, I do miss the tones that Samsung used to have when you slid up the phone & slid down the phone but that's something I can cope without. I would recommend this phone.

I ordered this phone a week ago & then found this site with these reviews on & I got seriously worried that I had made the wrong choice as some of the reviews are terrible.
The phone arrived Saturday & now I am wondering whether or not everyone is talking about the same phone!
I think it is very stylish & I have the pink one. OK so I guess the screen could get scratched easily but why not do what I did & buy a phone sock for it or a case. My phone sock works a treat for it. I had no problems getting the back of the phone off, no problems with the camera & no problems with the sound. It's loud enough for me & people who I have phones have had no problems hearing me or me hearing them.
I really think Samsung have come up a treat with this phone & I recommend it 100%.

I will never buy a Samsung again. The amount of messages you can hold is ridiculous especially when you have loads of memory on the phone, & the calendar, that is AWFUL, compared to the Nokia fones. Only 100 appointments & so many on other kinds of calendar entries. My Nokia 6500 Slide is much better & the display when the event comes on is silly, you get a scroll on the screen, whereas Nokia brings it all on one screen. The only thing I liked was the theme creator, & then, you couldn't hold much!

I am now on my third handset since 2nd July & I am not happy with this one either.
The first one I had started to refuse to ring certain numbers in my phonebook even though I hadn't blocked them & had re-programmed them into the phonebook. It then stopped displaying who a received text message was from & this was not down to a network problem.
The phone was replaced with a new one & within a week gremlins started to appear. On predictive text it started putting in numbers instead of words, e.g. 86 instead of 'to'. It still did this after it was returned to factory settings. I did this myself & they also did it in the shop, & even after this it still put numbers in instead of words.
Once again the handset was swopped for a new one & now, one week later, it has started adding numbers to words. I would not choose this model again. I have had three previous Samsung phones & not any problems but there does appear to be a software problem with this particular model.

I LOVE THIS PHONE.
I got this late July, & I have fallen in love with it ever since I got this phone. I think that it may scratch a little too easy! But still the camera is excellent with great zoom. :D
I find that the noise of the music player isn't as good as it should be though still satisfying to anyone. I must say that it can be a little confusing for the first week or if you're mad about your phone & can't get enough of it, & then you will get the hang of it in like 3 days.
I would recommend this phone to everyone. It has everything that a phone needs.
- Great ringtones, easy to hear! EVEN IN LONDON CITY!
- Good camera, better than some rubbish digital ones!
- Contacts list easy to use.
- Texting, nice & simple!
Memory is the only downfall, but you can get memory sticks.
I love the Samsung soul.

I have read some of the comments made about this phone & to start with I think it was an awesome phone. I had a thin blue line appear on the touch screen where I thought I had broken it. So it got sent off to be repaired & seemed to be all fixed.
Now another problem has came up where I slide the phone up & the main screen goes black, but if I slide it up very slowly the screen appears. The touch & the keypad are always on. I am guessing a loose connection so it's going to get fixed & if another thing happens again I am getting rid of it.
Very good phone but lacks in some departments, for my first Samsung it could be my last!

I got this phone yesterday & it is amazing. I love it! The design is lovely & really smart. It has really great features apart from not being able to assign own tunes as msg alerts, but it's not a major issue. The touch screen is very sensitive & have not yet discovered how to change the sensitivity of it, but it's still great.
I have had no problems with the hearing on voice calls, the ringing column when you have a call doesn't seem to be so loud, if I am in another room to the phone I am not sure I'd hear it, but I generally have the washing machine on so that's probably why, LOL.
I did have one issue yesterday. I was listening to music that I had transferred from my PC & it froze & came with a message saying data abort hold down * key so I did & the screen went black with a little bit of red writing on it, & the touch screen went bright Orange & I then couldn't do anything with it! So I had to take the battery out & turn it on again. This then happened again. So again I took battery out. But since then it has not happened so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have 13 more days to see how it goes in-case I need to exchange with Vodafone's 14 day return policy. Hopefully I won't have to do that!
I have had Samsung's before & this is by far the best one I have had, & I have the pink one which is a really nice pink, not too in your face!
Even though I had the problem with the freezing & data msg (has anyone else had this? ) the phone has worked fine & is fab. I love it! If I do need to return it I will definitely get another one sent to me & hope that it would not have the same problem.
Would highly recommend the phone though.

Got this phone as an upgrade from Orange. Wish I hadn't. Very stylish to look at but completely useless as a phone. Texting is a pain, ring & call volume far too quiet even when set to maximum. Biggest problem is poor reception & its inability to hold a signal. I was cut off six times while trying to complain to Orange about it. Eventually got through to Orange who said I must be in a poor reception area. Have sat in the same office for 6 years & never had a problem with Nokia or Motorola phones. Other people in the same room had perfect reception on Nokia phones at the same time. Threw the phone away & am using my old Motorola again.

I was given the pink Samsung Soul as a replacement for the G600 when I took out a contract (G600 unbranded has problems with Vodafone).
1. A BIG change from previous Samsungs, YOU CAN SET YOUR OWN MP3 TECT ALERTS.
2. I like the theme creator.
3. The camera is good- not the best not the worst it's an improvement on what I had & has many good features such as iso whitebalance & other options that not even all dedicated cameras have. THAT SAID you do have to hold the camera Very still.
4. The touch pad, easier then you may think to get the hang of & customisable.
5. I have never had a problem with the speed of the phone (touch wood).
6. I find texting on the Soul really easy & he keys are perfect for texting (somewhat similar to the moto razor key pad).
7. The sound I do notice that its a bit on the quiet side when on a call but not so quite you can't hear the caller just quieter than other phones on the market.
Hope this helps to anyone considering getting it, I know these where the things I wanted to know.

I saw this phone & loved the sleek design & touch pad however, if I am outside & on the phone it is extremely difficult to hear the person on the other line, highly frustrating for both people on the phone. Also the battery life decreases sooo quickly! Another problem I have found is that my screen sporadically goes black when my phone starts to ring (so I can't see who is calling me) & sometimes after a call. This does not always happen, but as far as I am concerned. It should never happen, its prob a manufacturing problem but overall I am quite disappointed & am looking to change soon.

People stop moaning about the battery. If it only lasts a day charge it when you go to bed so that it's done in the morning! I do that every night with the phone I have at the moment.
I am thinking of getting this phone when I am ready for an upgrade. It's between the Soul & the LG Secret. Both have pros & cons so I think I am going to have to continue with my research before I make a choice.
I've noticed from reading these reviews that those who have has Sony Ericssons or Nokias are the ones struggling to come to terms with the Samsung phones. I think that those who have previously had a Samsung are more likely to be able to use & enjoy this phone.

I think that it is boring though because it doesn't come with games or other applications that are entertaining.
The touch screen bit is fine but recently sometimes when I receive a call the screen & the touch screen panel both go black.
This phone doesn't have as much problems as the W910i so in comparison it is better than the Sony Ericsson by far.
The camera is good, the ear phone speakers are loud but I can hardly hear my phone ring in a loud place or hear my music aloud in a room full of people. The speakers just aren't loud.
I would advice that you should get this phone if you are not bothered by its lack of entertainment features.

Was a bit of a pain texting to start with, & accidently sent a few half messages, but have got used to the handset now & doesn't seem to be a problem. Back comes off fine too, if you use your palm to slide it, rather than fingers.
The cameras not great but I have a perfectly good camera for times when I want to take good pictures, I only use the phone camera when I am out drinking, so the quality may be impaired anyway!

I have had this phone for a few days now & I must say it is impressive to look at but there are some niggling flaws. Not major however it can become a real annoyance.
The design would have got 100% if the zoom & volume keys weren't directly across from the camera button. You will find that when trying to take a picture your hand always inevitable presses the zoom key which can be oh so annoying.
There are some good features on the phone all of which are pretty standard. However those wanting shutter sound on the camera will find that you won't be able to get the shutter sound if your keypad tone is off. WHICH IS RIDICULOUS! It means if you want to hear when you have taken a picture you have to change your entire settings which is just really backward & not user friendly. That shutter sound option should be seperate in the camera's settings & not affect the keypad tone what so ever.
Also now can anyone help me with my message memory. For some reason as soon as I hit like 179 texts it constantly buzzes, telling me inbox full I need to delete SMS. When I check my memory status it says it's not full & shows 179 out of 500 & space for more messages. So does anyone know why this is happening?
& can you set your messages to be saved to your memory card instead of the phone so that stupid message won't come up every 2 seconds?
Overall the phone is really good. Has a few drawbacks as mentioned, which may not affect another person but it's always handy for people to hear different reviews.
The sleekness of the phone makes up for most of the nagging problems.

I previously had a K800i which was a good phone, reliable & easy to use, but I was due an upgrade so went for a bit of Soul. Firstly, it looks great, sleek, modern, the real deal & some nice features, if a bit gimmicky. Unfortunately Ericsson brand & style of phone but it beats the Soul hands down. Be warned!

I got my phone yesterday. Like others, I had a little trouble getting the back off to put the battery in, but managed it after a couple of minutes & now it comes off easy enough. I like the touch screen, although it's not always easy to use. I've found myself meaning to press the up button but not quite hitting the right area & ending up pressing the OK area, which can be quite a pain. The biggest problem I am finding is with the signal. I am on T Mobile & according to their website I have very good coverage both at work & at home. My brother is on T Mobile & has a Sony Ericsson & has a perfect signal. Colleagues at work who are on T Mobile have excellent signal as well but for some reason my signal is poor everywhere. I don't know if I have a dodgy phone or if it's a Samsung signal problem in general, but I am taking it back tonight to swap for another one to see if it makes any difference. I can't leave my phone in my pocket because the signal disappears!

Hey all, don't forget that this phone is twice cheaper as the Nokia N95 8G rubbish, & you don't need a suitcase to carry it, ha ha ha, & about photo quality, it's a phone! About sound volume, I really hate the people with loud phones, why do you want that everybody hear your silly ringtone!

I have had this phone since the 27th May & it's already had to go back to Samsung. One Saturday night I put it on charge & set the alarm to go off for a round of golf on the Sun, upon waking up on the Sunday I looked at the phone to check the time only to see the phone had switched its self off & tried to come back on but was just showing the loading bar. I went to pick the phone up only to drop it as it was bloody roasting (think of a spoon just out of boiling water). It's now been back at Samsung for 2 weeks & they have told me twice they don't know what's up with it & they will not send me a new one. Be careful when buying this phone because if it breaks like mine it could take a while to get it fixed.

I bought my phone 2 months ago. I've had to return it to the retailer due to problems with the volume. My service provider ran a diagnostic test & found a fault with the phone low volume speech. This make & model does not appear to cope with large emails & attachments unlike my previous phone Nokia N80. The camera features are not as good either I.e. Very little choice in edit features. I am tempted to splash out & buy a new phone as I can't put up with this phone for another 16 months. Future buyers beware.

I've just received the Samsung Soul for a present & fair enough lovely styling. Great design great interface, (much better than other touch screens & a lot easier to use). But so so many drawbacks with the phone, the battery life is about 3 hours if you're using it a lot for calls &texts. It would not work as a business phone at all. The texting is so tedious & time consuming taking me up to 10 minutes to reply to a single text. By the way it doesn't know simple verbs & nouns in its predictive text. When you do manage to send a text & receive a reply the vibration sounds like a fly in the room! But not only that the camera usability is terrible you are forced to use a button on the side which forces you to take everything in landscape, such a letdown is this Samsung. I've had it 12 hours & wishing I didn't have it at all. T most ordinary tasks are so time consuming & fiddly. Avoid it, am afraid to say, such a HUGE letdown is this stylish phone, tut tut tut.

First off I'd just like to say that I have waited a long time for a phone like this. It's the best phone I have seen & I am the envy of all my mates. You couldn't ask for much more. The only problem I have with it is the headphones as they are nowhere near as good as the Sony Ericsson noise cancelling headphones, therefore you cannot benefit from the built in amp, But, I have found a way around this, on the Internet you will find a set of Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones which are compatible with the Samsung soul & at 22.99 you can't go wrong. Anyone who has a Samsung soul & is complained about it in this list of reviews is wrong.
If you have any problems then look further down the page & look at this persons review Martin Greenaway from Portsmouth, UK dated 21st June 2008. This review is extremely helpful & a code is provided so you can modify the phones audio settings in more detail. If I had to give this phone a mark out of 10 then it would defiantly be a 10. This is the one & only phone that I would highly recommend.

Music player volume is fine but same can't be said about the ringing volume for some reason. Disappointed with the camera, K800i with a lower resolution camera (3.2MP) took much better pictures.
Also does anyone know if there is any way to delete the recent recipients in the text list?
This phone is easy enough to use maybe it'll just take some time to get used to it. I love the size & feel of the phone it's just the usability that I've got a few issues with.

I love this phone, had N95 before & it was a pain. This is a breath of fresh air. Easy to set up & use. Texting is easy peasy (I use predictive), & you can add a word to the dictionary so you don't have to keep spelling it. Battery has good life, & cover is difficult to remove, but hey at least you won't leave your battery! N95 battery cover unclips easily!
I had a go on a demo phone in O2 shop before upgrading, so it might be worth asking if you're not sure on the phone. With regards to memory card, I just put the memory card from my N95 in, & hey presto, photos on soul, with no problems!
The only thing I can't work out is how to turn the sound on my camera so I know when it has taken the picture. I have it on Shutter 1 & nothing! Is this because I have my keypad tones off?

Hello, I recently got this phone as I saw it advertised & immediately wanted it. & now I have it I love it. Does everything I thought it would & more. Love the design, the touch screen, the conventional buttons. Everything but it did come with a few problems that needed ironing out, well to be fair the main problem was my network.
I was looking forward to using the Google shortcut on the U900. When I got my from O2 it wasn't there, going back to the shop, O2 Customer Services & Samsung, they couldn't tell me why exactly but thought it may have been O2's software version that removes it (I think they are linked with Yahoo search on their WAP site but still shouldn't remove it). They didn't offer to change the software on here so after a few hours searching online, found a website that I was able to download a programme & update the phone with the generic European software which when installed, reinstalled the Google application. Great.
I didn't have a problem with the ring volume, or on call volume (the volume of the person you have called) but after reading some people's problems with this I did a bit of research, I found a post from someone with a code where you can change all the different call volumes of the phone, this is star hash 0002 star 28346 hash, this will display a message ending with data load complete, press back twice to go to the main menu, press 1 to change the RCV (receiver when on phone) volume, 2 for the EAR (earphone) volume, 3 for the SPK (speaker, I.e. Ringtone) volume, 4 for the BTH (I think this is Bluetooth headset volume). I found this info from a post from Doug on here.
As for some of the comments on here, I think people actually need to use the phone longer as they will discover it will do what they expect.
- For example, you can use the number 1 button for common characters.
- the battery lid does come off easily if done correctly & over time this will loosen up & become easier, but quite why people need to take the battery cover on & off all the time is beyond me, surely it is better that the back is tight & secure?
- the problems that people have with not receiving texts on time, the phone not showing missed calls, calls being dropped etc, is surely a network problem & not with the phone, I suggest you contact them.
- You don't have to wait for the confirmation that a text has sent, you can close the slide, press the end button to take you back to the idle screen straight away etc.
- You don't have to add the person first when texting, I do to make sure I know I have added someone. But you can write the text first then press the down key (as opposed to scrolling up) & this will take you to the top box to enter the recipient number.
- Yes you can use ringtones for SMS which is great as most other Samsung's don't have this feature.
I think people need to get used to the phone & its settings & be aware of everything that it does. Especially if you are not used to Samsung's. I generally stick to Nokia & Samsung phones, & this phone is the best yet.
If anyone has any queries with the phone, let me know, I will endeavour to help with any problems.

This is a brilliant phone if you have got the time for it. It takes a while to get use to but is excellent once you know how to. The camera is good also. & as I have heard people saying about the call volume & ringtone volume not been so good, all you have to do is turn it up, also the back cover is apparently difficult to get off but I had no problem at all with it. One problem I did have with it I bought a 4GB memory card for it but it does not work but that could be just memory card. Overall this is a fantastic phone & definitely worth buying.

It has to be the best phone I have ever had, no problems with sound or cover! It looks & FEELs great. It's great how you can create your own theme (but none will compare to the elegance noire).
The pictures are unreal, but not as good at night. Maybe I don't have much expertise comparing it to my old Sagem myz5 phone.
Some of the bad points, it's horrible for picking up grease & I found that the very bottom of the screen cracks just where it curves & I have yet to drop it ! I have one, almost microscopic scratch which can't be a good sign, as I have only had it 2 weeks! Its also a little on the dear side but your buying a camera, radio, MP3 phone in one so I had no problem selling my old iPod radio & camera.

This phone has let me down. It looks incredible, & for the first day I was amazed at everything it did.
However, here come the cons.
- Hard to get the battery lid off, repeated problems for me that irritated me no end.
- Phone keeps dropping calls.
- Sending texts is an absolute mission, why did the designers not put the 1 button to its usual use with common symbols?
- Hearing the phone ring is a matter of guessing.
- Texts come through hours later, missed calls after turning the phone on & off are finally notified.
- the balance of the phone makes texting a fragile matter, too worried about dropping it to text one handed.
- the magic touch area is mesmerising but let us face facts, it could as easily be done without that, especially as the phone retains the two navigation buttons on the left & right.
- Camera button is in an awkward place.
Good points about this phone.
- Internet capabilities as far as I have tested them has been good. Renders well, & I am happy how it handles the Gmail application.
- Kudos to the designer of the PC Studio, finally a system that has a well designed, intuitive interface with features that are of actual use. A star, to them.
- the FM Radio is impressive.
Overall, no phone can stay with me if I can't hear my phone calls on the loudest ring volume & the text messages won't send (the fact that you can't do anything else while it takes its own sweet time to send is the most ridiculous thing ever). Unfortunately it will be going back.

OK followed Doug's advice (previous messages) & increased my volume.
The back cover wasn't a problem. There is a pin in the centre of the cover, if you press along the sides of the cover about half way down it just slips off. Just make sure your fingers are clean & clear from grease.
As for the texting, OK I don't like adding the person first but not a problem at all really.
Love the radio, it even works in a huge factory (big metal box).
Shame it never came with a memory card but got a 2GB from eBay for £3.71 including postage. & it could do with a free silicone case. Also why is there no loop at the top for a lanyard, d'oh Samsung.
But really what can I say 9 out of 10, much better than my D600, which I still love. Not bad for free on a £15 a month contract with T Mobile (combi 20 discounted).

Well I have read all the reviews the good & the bad. & to be honest I would say a lot of the bad are people that are not used to the Samsung range of phones. Let's start with the back cover a little weight & slide & it pops right out. So what's so hard about that unless you have greasy fingers. Ring volume I see nothing wrong with that either if you twiddle with the settings. Also it's only the second Samsung that I know of in existence that you can have your own text message tune. The touch pad is great pretty responsive & the camera is a great improvement over the G600. GUYS MY LAST PHONE WAS the N95 that I did love. Although not on the same par because of no wireless or sat nav the u900 soul is in a par of its own sleek & a pretty good weight as well.

Overall the phone is great. Simple to use, stylish, very sturdy & with great features (good camera, fast web access etc.)
The battery cover thing was not an issue just need to know how to do it (manual actually tells it). The phone does have weird way of sometimes having a very low speaker volume. It doesn't seem to happen with all calls.
Also don't like the fact that you can't charge the phone at the same time as using headphones. Wow, what a phone. I used to be a Samsung fan but certain things started to annoy me about the make so was a little sceptical about getting this one but thought I can always swap it for another make if I don't like it.
They have changed quite a few things about this Samsung & for the better, like not having to copy stuff onto phone memory from memory card in order to use it as wallpaper or ringing tone, which really used to bug me as I thought it totally defeated the object of having a memory card. Also you can have your MP3's as a message tone like you can on U600 which is also better. The camera is really good this time along with quite a good flash. The thing I really like about this is the fact you can make your own themes which is fab.
The tones could be a bit louder but been as my phone needs to be on silent most of the time it's not really a problem. Voice calls clear & no problems with level of speech like some.
Texting is really nice, keys really responsive & comfy to text on. I was going to get Nokia N82 but even with my small childlike hands I found awkward texting on it, but Samsung Soul is a joy to text on.
Overall I am loving this phone & so glad Samsung have sorted themselves out as I have really missed having one but this phone have finally converted me back to them, onwards & upwards. Get this phone its great especially the silver one as its really sleek & sexier than graphite one.

I love the touch screen & am getting used to it quite quickly. It makes it quirky.
It took me a couple of weeks to get my hands on one due the large advertising campaign, everybody wanted one. I don't think they will be this appointed.
The texting is a bit drawn out, but this isn't new, it's the same with all Samsung phones & it hold the top 3 people you text, so this makes things a bit quicker.

Yes, call volume was low but soon fixed with the tip from earlier posting's here & ringtone volume too.
Feels good quality & well engineered. The flat keyboard is fine but then I've had Moto RAZRs & KRZRs for the past 2 to 3 years so used to it, has a nice feel. Slide action positive & isn't flimsy like some.
Menus fairly quick to work out & doesn't seem any better or worse than others, all depends what your used to I guess. Looks very customisable so will be playing round ;-) Browsing, seems quick enough but nor really explored yet.
Camera & music initial quick play seem fine, although I don't use my phones as music players particularly, prefer iPod. But the radio is handy.

I LOVE this phone, I didn't find anything really wrong with it, the battery cover took me a while to get off & then to put back on, but I don't open it often. It took a while to get used to the touch pad but I really like it now. My one real problem is the camera as I don't know how to change the picture resolution which is slightly irritating, if anybody can help with this it will be greatly appreciated.
Overall phone is amazing best phone I have seen & used 10 out of 10.

Very attractive & sleek but the u900 is quite deceiving! I got the phone, like most people because it was new out & looked good, but to be honest I preferred the U600 I had before this one.
I set up my contract & got the phone a week & a half ago & it's the second one I have had already! I took the first one back after 6 days as the ear volume was so low I had to press my ear up to the phone so hard my ear was sore! I got a new on straight away but am taking it back again tomorrow (5 days later) as the ear volume has gone again.
The phone has great features don't get me wrong, but the volume is really bad. This may help if you use the steps SAM from Sheffield, UK or Doug from UK already said below.
I do love the phone but this really lets it down. You never know you may be lucky & get one without this problem!

I am getting this phone tomorrow & am a little worried after reading all the reviews on it. It looks good & I hope it isn't too hard to get the back off, & as for noise some people aren't to bothered about the sound why not just put it on vibrate. Anyway ill get back to you when I get it. So ill put the rating as 50 50 50.

I have just bought one of these handsets SIM free. I have no particular bias towards any manufacturer so I have an open mind on these things but I am quite particular & discerning.
Please believe me when I tell you, the contents of the negative reviews is largely rubbish.
- the back is not that hard to get off. A little stiff at first but OK soon afterwards.
- the screen is beautiful & clear.
- the phone is stable & reliable.
- the touch interface can be reconfigured not only for colour of icons, but you also get to choose what icons are there.
- the phone can largely be operated from the closed position.
- On a day when I hammered the phone for usage including Bluetooth 65 photos & a few MP3's onto it, it went down from 2 bars to 1 bar on the power.
- the phone touch pad is locked when closed & can be unlocked with 2 buttons. Relocking is as simple & sliding open & closed.
- Volume. The MP3's play plenty loud enough from the speaker. The Ringtone is also quite loud & every combination of vibe & ring can be applied if you want. The speakerphone is a little on the quite side but certainly usable (I use mine for lots of teleconferences for work).
- Camera, not superb but pretty good. Flash only over exposes if you are too close to the subject. Its 5MP people, step back a bit!
I really, honestly can't find fault with this phone. If you are used to other phone OS's then you have to be able to adapt yourself to the Samsung OS. It is a perfectly good phone OS just a little different to other manufacturers (who are all different to each other anyway).
Finally, the shape, weight & size of this phone absolutely destroys the Nokia N range & Samsungs previous 5MP offering. In the hand & pocket it feels like a new style Motorola flip phone with much more functionality.
Don't hesitate in getting one if you are interested in this handset.

I have had the U900 for 4 weeks now & all of a sudden when I tried to type in a number or press hash key or any other key in that area the phone switches off then back on again. Even when I try to switch it off normally it switches on, on its own sending back to O2 will try a new one.
Other than that the phone is great but the camera is a bit tricky but nice phone.

Recently got this new handset & was initially impressed, however. Text messaging is very long winded & sent items often appear in either my outbox or sent box, completely randomly. It doesn't matter whether the contact is saved to the phone or the SIM. When Items end up in your outbox it usually means the text hasn't sent, but I've since found out it does? Spoke to both Samsung & Orange & neither have a clue. Anyone else had this problem?
Also, the ring volume is rubbish even on the highest setting, something to do with where Samsung decide to locate the speakers. If you are not in the room with your phone & there is sufficient back ground noise I.e. Having the TV on, any call can & does get missed regularly.
Also, the screen has now started going blank when people call. Very annoying if you actually like to see who is calling you before you answer it.
On the plus side, the cam is good if not a little bright when using the flash & the overall build quality is very good, nice slide mechanism. Am now in a bit of a dilemma as to whether or not I swop it for something else or just get a different handset! Shame Sony Ericsson has not got anything tempting really!

I have read a couple of the reviews & I think the Samsung looks good overall, but a couple of questions, ( the ones which have been asked but not really answered ! )
- What is the camera (any good? ).
- Is it easy to use text wise?
- Volume, is it a major problem?

Volume problems with your U900?
The low volume was really annoying me, but now I am perfectly happy. The U900 is an amazing phone, & after changing the max volume setting (below), the sound quality is incredible. Hope this helps :-)
Follow the steps below to increase your U900 speaker. My U900 have the latest software version, for other versions I have no idea whether it works. Update it at the nearest Samsung service centre.
- Type *#0002*28346#.
- It will bring up a menu.
- Load Params.
- Dump Params.
- Call Config.
- Press Back & it will bring up another longer menu.
- Key in 3 to bring up SPK Config Menu.
- Then key in 4 to bring up have-QTune (MP3) menu.
- Key in 1 to bring up SPK MP3 Vol. Menu.
- Key in 6 to change the max. Volume.
- Input 40 & press OK, it will change to 4.0db default max. Volume is 3db. I wouldn't recommend higher than 6.0db because the sound will distort, anything lower will be fine.
- Once done, press cancel to close the service menu & try to play a MP3 with max. Volume. This volume apply for your MP3 Ringtones & Message tones.
Note, If you restart your phone, your settings will be changed to default.

Hi everyone, I really love this phone but I really wanted it in the all silver colour looks so much nicer then the graphite but can't because all networks do it in the greyish graphite.
I know what everyone means about the battery cover being stiff but hey all when you have removed it a few times it becomes much easier. & is there any way round the prolonged method of sending a text? Wouldn't want be in an emergency!
Other than that it's a gorgeous phone with a fabulous camera so if your looking for beauty with brains this is the phone for you. Also if anyone does not like touch sensitive phones then this is not for you but I have had touch sensitive before & I am use to it now.

Love the phone. Looks great. The reviewers who can't get the back off only need to do it once, & then you need to be sure it won't come off accidentally!
Overall I really love it, but the cons are.
- Call volume isn't loud enough.
- Caller IID pictures are too small. Why?
- I can't work out how to make incoming texts save in the phone rather than the sim by default. Can anyone help on that?
- It was hard to figure out how mute the touch button volume, but the soft vibration option is brilliant.
- the process of sending texts is a little lengthy, but the recent option makes it much quicker for your regular texts.

The Samsung Soul is a sturdy nice looking phone & has some nice features like being able to personalise your own themes.
I had no trouble removing the battery cover which some people seem to have had difficulty with.
I am not very impressed with the camera though. It certainly doesn't have 5 megapixel quality. The quality of the 2 megapixel camera on my old phone was better.
I've been able to change the ringtone but I haven't yet figured out how to change the text message tone which is a bit annoying.

I bought this phone only yesterday but already I have mixed feelings about it.
Like everyone else, I think the phone is stunning. The touch pad looks nice but in all reality is a bit of a gimmick. It takes some getting used to but I don't really have any problems with it.
However, I do have a problem with just two things (so far).
- When I tried to send a message from the phone book I found a nice mixture of SIM & phone memory numbers. Despite selecting phone only I still had to go back & move all numbers to the phone from my SIM. Twice. Was not impressed.
- the camera, I use this feature a lot on my previous beaten up Sony Ericsson. On this phone, despite the 5 mega pixel, I think the quality is shoddy. The flash is too bright & despite the anti shake feature, many of my pictures are blurred. If the light is not right in the room, your picture is doomed. Unless anyone can tell me how to adjust the flash so it's not so bright!
Overall, if you want a pretty phone, then this is for you. If you want a top notch phone I would suggest something different.

There are a few things I can't seem to sort out like just having a ringtone & not a ringtone with a vibration! I had no problems with taking the back off to get to the battery & I can't say that I find the volume a big problem. I wanted a phone for personal use & my requirements were basic, Internet access, decent camera & nice looking, personally I think this phone ticks all the boxes for me.

This is the first Samsung I have had & I must say that I am not that impressed.
It has a lovely design & the touch screen is innovative, but there are a few problems (deep breath).
- the back for the battery IS rubbish. It took a few minutes but it should be seconds surely.
- the screen attracts dirt & grease even when I have not touched it! Weird! Must be the grease fairy.
- Things don't seem to be in the logical place that you should find them. Maybe that is because I have always had a Sony Ericsson for the last 4 years.
- I do not like the fact that you cannot put on the phone lock manually I.e. Star then lock. Well if there is I certainly can't find out how to.
- the loudest volume for the ringtone is very low. Missed loads of calls.
- Even on the brightest setting, I have had problems seeing the screen.
- & lastly, the volume from the earpiece is absolutely diabolical. Now, I have fantastic hearing but this takes the biscuit.
Conclusion
Let us not forget exactly what this is first & foremost. A MOBILE PHONE! Where do you use a mobile phone? Usually outdoors, somewhere there is not a normal phone at hand to use. When you are outside in the city it is NOISY & you need VOLUME on your earpiece to hear. The volume on this is terrible. I had to ask a business client 5 times to repeat themselves before I could understand what they were saying. Not good! So if you work in a city & need to use your phone outside during the day you will find it hard going. Not only can you not see the screen, you can't hear what is being said & if you get a call because you won't hear it ring!
Sleek looks, yes, functionality as a phone? NO!

Hi, Just posted my review then read comments. I too had issues with the back cover but managed to get it off eventually so it is definitely an issue.
Also someone asked how to make phone vibrate? Go to main menu, phone settings, phone profiles, highlight the 'normal' one & press the 'options' soft key to the left of the touch screen keypad. Pick 'edit', then the 'call alert type' will be highlighted. Press the left soft key saying 'options' & select 'change'. You can then opt for it to vibrate by highlighting the vibration one & pressing the tick on the touch screen bit. Then don't forget to save the changes!
Phew! Hope that helped!
Photos have been OK in low light as long as you make sure the flash is on. But I had similar issues with my Sony in this respect so it's a matter of fiddling with the flash options.
I am going to keep this phone but also hold onto my Sony K850i too because I love that phone. Hoping I will get more used to this one as time goes on. Anyone else found the slide mechanism has become a bit wobbly?

Samsung Soul Review, OK so I have always been a Sony Ericsson girl but loved the look of this phone so upgraded. So let's sum up.
Good points.
- Slim & light.
- Great menus you can completely customise yourself.
- Good camera picture quality.
- Pretty pretty pretty!
- Touch keypad really responsive & easy to use & you can adjust the sensitivity.
Bad Points.
- Music playback a bit tinny.
- Long winded texting (you have to add your recipient first, then do text, then if you want to add symbols etc you have to hold the hash key & select the symbol then add it so it's a lot of menus to go thru just to send a text. I just keep texts in the inbox, changed one of the shortcuts on the magic keypad to my inbox & just reply to people rather than creating new messages!
- When you send a text you can't do anything else with the phone till the text is sent.
- Initial battery life only 2 days but hoping that will improve.
- Hard to see screen in sunlight but many phones are like that.
- Can't use the camera when the slide is shut.
Overall even though there more bad points, they are things I will get used to & overall I like it too much to change it. So thumbs up & a sturdy 7 out of 10 from me.

I didn't have any problem getting the back off to insert the sim card. However, I did have major issues getting the back off to take the sim card out so I could return the phone. Possibly one of the worst phones I have ever had. The touch screen feature is good the first day but becomes a real pain. Texting is a nightmare as you need to switch between the buttons & the touch pad all the time. The biggest problem I had with this phone was the caller volume. The slightest bit of background noise rendered the phone useless as you couldn't hear what was being said. All these factors mean that the phone is back in the box & on the way back to O2 as I write this.
If you're thinking about getting this phone, DON'T!

This phone is an outstanding piece of technology, the battery cover is difficult once the battery is installed but in time it'll become easier I am sure, the touchpad is great & easy to use after 10 minutes or so. The setup menus are clear to use especially if you've had the pleasure of the d500 & the d600.
The caller ID pictures are on the small side which is a shame & the earpiece volume is a bit on the quiet side & why couldn't SAMSUNG give you a plain old 'ring ring' ringtone but hey a minor point, the phone obviously won't be everyone's cup of tea but overall a cracking phone.
Only time will tell if the phone has the staying power to last as high tech items do have a tendency to let go if they haven't been developed enough.
In summary, Outstanding! Great looking Phone!

I have had the U900 a week now & I love it love it love it! Upgraded from the D900 & no looking back!
I did struggle a little getting the cover off but only for about 2 minutes, I don't really understand all the negative comments about that.
I've taken some photos in low light & have been very pleased with the results.
The pros.
- You can now use your own sounds as the message alert tone which has been a long time coming.
- Also, you have complete control over the look of the phone, the pattern, colours, font etc. I haven't seen this on any other phone & I think it's great, when you get bored you can completely change the design & you have a whole new phone!
- the touch screen is really cool & again you can keep changing the colour of the icons.
- the wallpaper can be to constantly side show through specific photos which is a nice feature.
The cons.
- the sound of the music is not that loud & the caller ID pictures are pretty small.
- Also the videos I took on my D900 will not play on the U900 which is odd considering they are both Samsungs but I am hoping I can change the resolution using the PC Studio.
- There does not seem to be the option of blocking messages from certain numbers, I found that quite useful on the D900, however you can still automatically reject calls from certain numbers.
These are the only problems I have found & do not stop the U900 being the coolest phone on the market for a long time.
Well done Samsung!

The U900 Soul is the classy looking phone from Samsung. As the final instalment in the Ultra range, the U900 sure doesn't disappoint. Encased in quality stainless steel, it boasts a 5MP camera with Face Detection, 7.2Mbps HSDPA access for ultra fast download times & a powerful music library that includes a digital amplifier from Bang & Olufsen. But wait, there's still a lot left in the Soul! The slim slider also manages to cram in a 'Magic Touch' navigation panel that smartly changes with the application you're using, an MP3 player, FM radio, EDGE, RSS feeds, email & micro SD card slot!

Love it! When the touchpad changes it's so cool! It does sometimes not register your press but that is rare & the cool thing about it is that it vibrates when you press the touch panel to say that it has registered, which helps!
The camera is really good & takes pictures quickly, the speaker isn't extremely loud which is surprising when it's supposed to have the bang & olufsen amplifier but it's good enough.
Sometimes the touch panel can lag so when you've clicked on an option the window pops up on the screen but the touch panel hasn't caught up & changed to suit the option, it happens when you've clicked on something with a lot of memory in it e.g. message inbox & pictures, music, videos etc but it isn't to annoying.
This phone is very stylish, has really cool display features where you can make your own themes & change the colour of the touch panel display icons. If you're thinking of getting this phone because you like it then I say go for it because there is nothing wrong with it & it is really nice & cool but it's nothing special.

The features are good offering a 5MP camera although there are a lot of settings & I am a little disappointed with pictures in low light, that said I may need to tweak the settings some more. If anyone has the ideal settings please post them!
I had a K810i before which is a great phone & I still feel it takes better pictures but doesn't look anywhere near as good as the Samsung.
Phone has crashed a couple of times when playing about with it but no doubt a software upgrade will arrive to sort any minor bugs.
It's not an all singing all dancing model but it's cheap enough & offers some nice touches with clear call quality & expandable memory options.
