I had this phone in June 2008 on an 18 month contract from Virgin.

Previously had a Samsung E900 so I am used to the touch sensitive buttons, plus you can turn the sensitivity from low to high on this model.

I find the phone easy to use & takes great pictures, but as others have said it is a bit slow taking the actual picture. The memory is expandable via a mini SD card (very cheap on eBay) if required.

I am on my second U600 as my first phone developed a fault when the screen picture started to wobble & then went black & white. I rang Virgin who arranged for a courier to bring a new handset to my house the following day. Excellent service & they ensured I remembered to transfer my numbers to my SIM etc. & to Bluetooth any music & pictures to my PC.

At 11 replacement handset refused to charge. I rang Virgin who again were excellent & arranged to replace the handset with a newer model as they no longer have the U600 on my tariff. I received a Samsung G600 which again is an excellent phone.

If you take this phone on the Virgin £8.50 a month contract it's a bargain & their customer service is outstanding & there is no hassle if it develops a fault.

The Samsung U600 is really good I've had it for 4 months now & I really like it, at first you aren't really used to it & you press the wrong buttons & mess things up but once you get used to it it's amazingly fantastic! I have it in pink.

If anything does go wrong with it like when you get it, it freezes up then just send it back to the store & ask for another one, they send a different one of it as soon as possible with dial a phone! So everyone who says negative things about it is talking rubbish! Samsung U600 rules! I recommend this phone to everyone considering buying it, & this comment might change everyone's minds completely.

Well what can I say about this phone. Absolutely rubbish! I brought my husband this phone, he had no problems with it so I decided I wanted one. However 2 months on from buying myself it, we both started getting signal problems! Messages kept coming up saying no signal, or limited service & even emergency calls. My husband is a lorry driver & he drove round the M25 with no signal! I rang T mobile thinking as both of us had this problem it would be them. They kept testing it & trying different things but yet nothing worked! So since January T mobile have been getting abuse from me, & last week we both had enough & was going to cancel the contract. As they didn't want to lose us they sent us 2 new SIM's, so after trying them this morning funny I got NO SIGNAL! So now I have to buy new phones. Samsung well won't be buying there phones again. Has anyone else had this problem?

Really good phone, had it nearly 18 months. Most things going fine. Predictive text still works. The only thing that is, I am really getting annoyed with is that the speaker just stopped working one evening. I had used the phone in the afternoon but when trying to make a phone call later that day it wouldn't work. I now have to wait till the person I am ringing has answered. Put it on loud speaker jiggle it about a bit & then put it back onto the normal speaker. Very embarrassing when you're out & about & everybody can hear your conversations. I have been having this problem for about 3 weeks & it's getting worse, a lot of people have said this phone gets a loose connection because of the slide & I am not happy about it. Also when making a phone call I cannot keep the phone open all the way. It has to cover the first row of numbers resulting in sometimes closing the phone & ending the call in the middle of a conversation. Good phone but it's getting worse with age.

Anybody else having the speaker problems?

When I got my phone I actually loved the design, my old Samsung had been working for 4 years without any problems, I dropped it countless times from large heights, I use to sit on it when the top was open, & it didnt break AT ALL, until it broke by the phone just randomly turning off, which was to be expected of such an old phone, but still annoying.

unfortunately whole house & garden, & NO signal.

I am so upset with this, & I am going to complain to Orange tomorrow, I don't recommend this phone to anyone who wants signal, just to people who want a pretty phone & wants to play games on it. I am disappointed with Samsung.

I have had this phone for about 2 & a half years now, roughly. & I've never had any major problems with it. Surely after a good few year with ANY phone, they'll start to create faults after everything it's been through. I've read about problems about the predictive texting, when the phone goes off half way through. I've never used the predictive texting, so I wouldn't know. I've had the screen go blank for a few seconds, pressed a few buttons but it comes back on after that. My screen has never gone upside down or went funny colours, it's been fine. Yeah, it took my a while to get used to the touch sensitive buttons to but I am fine with it now. Takes a while to take a pictures but. Very good camera! :D. I had a problem once where I charged it, took it off charged & it still showed me as if it were still charging, but it doesn't do that anymore, didn't even take it to get fixed. My screen hasn't had one scratch on it, I've dropped it from about 6ft before & it still works absolutely fine. Might have a few singal errors when sending & receiving texts, I don't know if that's my phone or their phone.

But, overall a GREAT phone.

Looks great & is very small, but the headphones are rubbish, they don't stay your ear at all!

Also, the touch buttons are poor. I have to tell everybody that uses it to stay away from or they will make a call if you brush them very lightly with your finger.

The best thing about this phone is the game, BOBBY CARROT! When I first got the phone I raised my eyebrow at it, but then I played it & it was BRILLIANT! Get the phone just for this!

nice phone in the beginning, but wish I read about other people's reviews before I bought! Don't bother with this, for a little extra you can get something just as nice looking that will last without these faults!

I had this for Christmas 2007. Beautiful phone, loved it. I have a large camera. So I put it in my bag (along with my phone) & accidently dropped the bag down the stairs & the screen cracked, it was dead.

I bought the exact same phone. You know because it was purple & I ADORED it. The past month it has been messing around. I opened the slider up (as you do) & the screen was flashing at me. It wouldn't stop until I turned it off. Then I opened the slider & the camera flash would light up (really bright!) & not go away until I turned it off. I'd open it up, & the screen would go black, & it wouldn't go normal until I turned it off. I'd open it up & the screen would go black & white, but INVERTED (try this effect on Photoshop, you'll see what I mean). It wouldn't go away until I turned it off. The screen would get funny colours when I open it. It turns itself off.

It doesn't tell me when I have some calls, which has resulted in me not getting a call back from an interview for a job (how annoyed was I?!) If I do have missed calls, it only occasionally tells me when I have a voice mail message. Not all the time. It's ridiculously silly.

This second phone isn't even a year old, I am going to take it back & demand a different phone that works. I think it's a fault to do with the slider, & it's disconnecting & going faulty. It's beautiful. My favourite ever phone. But it's dying.

I have had this phone for a year & a half now & am at my wits end! Apart from the problems (within a month of getting this phone) with predictive text that a lot of other users are having (I ended up giving up & using normal text even though I find this more time consuming) the screen is now playing up. It either fades into blackness & I have to leave it for a few minutes or else turns white completely (it has currently been white for the past 15 minutes) every time I slide the phone up to use it. VERY annoying. I would not recommend anyone gets this phone & I am currently looking for a replacement! Not happy, the U600 has put me off Samsung's forever.

I have just bought this phone yesterday, the design is black & golden, looks cool & classic.

After having read so many reviews of this phone, yes I feel the same that the screen is very delicate & if handled badly, may develop a break anytime.

But keeping my fingers crossed, I have bought a new phone after 3 years, & hope it does becomes my good companion for at least a couple of years.

I upgraded my Samsung M300 to the U600 about 18 months ago. My last 3 phones have been Samsung phones, but after my U600 experience, I don't think I'll be getting another one!

If I had written the review a few months after I had got the phone, the review would have been very positive. The main reason that I got the phone was that it had a really nice design & was small & light. I mainly use my phone to call, text & take the occasional picture & for that it was a brilliant phone. Even the touch buttons, which had had some really bad reviews were fine, apart from the occasional cancelling of applications if your finger brushed against it accidentally & the fact that you couldn't use it when you had gloves on!

The problems started after about 9 months. First the predictive text function stopped working properly as it seemed to forget most of the words that I had added. Then the phone started freezing & restarting for what seemed like no reason at all, which was really irritating when you had spent ages writing a text & then the phone froze as you were trying to send it. After reading a few articles, it became apparent that it was a fault with the predictive text function. It became so bad that I couldn't even type one word using predictive text before the screen froze. So I had to go back to the old fashioned texting which was painfully slow! Eventually my boyfriend updated the software & 'flashed' it to try & solve the problem. This worked initially, but then slowly the problems started occurring again. Then to cap it all off, the camera broke, although I think that could have been my fault!

All in all, as a phone it was stylish, quick & user friendly. It's just a shame that the software sucked. I was tempted to get the Samsung Tocco, but after not really liking my first touch screen phone & all the drama with the software, I decided to go for the Sony Ericsson C905. I am well aware of the speaker problems this phone has had, but I was assured that mine came from a newer batch, which as yet hadn't had any of those problems. I am still keeping my fingers crossed.

This is the first time I've brought a Samsung. I've had this phone just over a year & faced no problems up until now. I am always texting on my phone & recently it just decided to switch itself off in the middle of a text & restart itself. Now this can be seriously annoying at times, especially when you send a long text which cuts out after sending the first part of the message & not send the second as it charges you TRIPLE when I try to resend it, after it decides to work again that is. Even during phone calls the phone cuts out & restarts itself. At first I thought it was the SIM as I had an error message saying, Please insert SIM, so I went out & brought a new SIM, turns out it's the phone which is the problem. Waste of money & I do not recommend it to anyone.

Sorry Samsung, but you have lost a customer.

The LCD screen cracked after only 4 days, falling 30cm. On all the other phones I've ever had the screen has never cracked, even after dropping it from standing height. I will not be buying another Samsung phone, going back to my trusty old Sony Ericsson phone till I can buy a new one : (.

I only wish I'd read these reviews, (or they were available as I bought mine when it was first released), before purchasing! The first & last Samsung I'll be buying. I am a text addict & getting three quarters the way through a text only to have it freeze, die & restart is just too much, very very frustrating. Not only once but numerous times in a row, fine for a few days then it starts all over again. Out of warranty, & after reading several of the same types of reviews I think I'll stick with a different manufacturer next time.

When I first bought the phone about 7 months ago thought it was ace but my opinion has changed with time as the phone has developed numerous problems & has now been sold & I have a new phone.

On the positive side the phone has an amazing camera on it works like a dream & the overall design of the phone is amazing it's so slim & stylish & has a good choice of colours.

I wouldn't personally recommend this phone as it develops faults.

I was quite disappointed as I have always had Samsung mobiles & they have never had any faults & always been reliable up until now so I have now move on to the Sony Ericsson W595 & haven't had any problems so far.

I brought this phone back in September 2008 & just recently has started having problems such as the screen will just fade into blank & not return for an amount of time.
The screen flickers, flips round, goes funny colours, round way around etc.

You will be using the phone & suddenly the screen stops working. Also taking photos takes ages & playing music from a memory card takes ages to load. The slide doesn't always answer the call. The touch features are reliable.

Everything this phone has goes wrong & ones that don't take forever to respond.

Personally, if I read the reviews before buying this phone I wouldn't have. Please reconsider before buying this phone. I usually buy Sony Ericsson's & they never let me down but I fancied a change & REGRETTED IT.

I got this phone for Christmas 2008. I was so excited because I absolutely loved it, all I wanted was a purple phone!

The touch screen did take a lot of getting used to but I am nearly there with it.

The camera I don't like because as people have said it takes ages for it to take the photo & when you're trying to take one of kids it's almost impossible!

The battery run out on my phone so I charged it up but the ring tone I normally have had been changed & the photo had also changed. I went to put another photo on but it said Empty I tried my downloaded photos & that said 'Empty' I then tried my music & ring tones & they were all empty as well.

My partner tried taking the battery out but this didn't work.

I am absolutely gutted & so disappointed because I had photos of my kids on the phone which I've lost & also video footage of them & all that has gone as well.

I will be taking this phone back but I am certainly not getting another one & I won't be getting another Samsung, I think I will stick to Nokia as I always have done.

If you do buy this phone please don't take photos or video footage because you will probably lose it all as I have.

This is the worst phone I have ever had! At first everything seems fine & it's a nice light phone, however the screen scratches really easily. There are many problems with the sensitivity of the touch screen & touch dialling & you can be calling people or exiting out of texts without wanting to, just be accidentally brushing against a key.

Then the real problems start, the phone freezes & shuts down for no reason & especially when using the predictive text function, which I can no longer use at all as after typing one word the phone switches off. The only way around this problem is to turn off the predictive text which really slows down your texting. Battery life is also poor. I can't wait to upgrade this phone.

I got it on the 23rd of December out of my birthday money & it was 100% worth it! I'll answer a few things.

You can turn the sensitivity down by going onto settings then phone settings then touch sensitivity & change it. Also yes the camera is slow at capturing & setting it up but the quality is very good in fact its 100% better than my 5 megapixels camera. He he.

I totally recommend this phone who are looking for a cheap simple gorgeous phone I was shocked it was only £50 I would pay more than what I paid for my Nokia 7373 (£90)

I got this phone a year ago, for my birthday present & I fell in love with it at first sight. It's gorgeous & looks great, very stylish & it's a slider, my favourite. Also it looks hot when I hold it but there's just one thing. Its usability is just rubbish. The touch keys on the front are very difficult to use, despite the fact that I got use to them in less than 1 week. But soon they started to freeze, this problem had stopped & now has started again. I have read a lot lately about how rubbish the touch system is & now I just really wish I knew this before I got it. Because I honestly love this phone & am too attached to let it go, but I have to so I can use a phone that's worthwhile.

Without the front keys & arrow keys & top touch keys. This phone is literally unusable & now I have to get a new phone: (. But I will always love you my pink limited special one.

I haven't treated it roughly, & don't keep it anywhere it could be damaged. The phone was damaged in five minutes of me checking it, leaving the house, & returning to find the screen cracked. I have had my phone for five months. Until one month ago it was working fine & suddenly the screen started playing up. The picture is fuzzy & kind of flashes to a dull background & if you press on the screen it changes then after a while it becomes normal. After a month of that nonsense, it now goes black with vertical lines down it. The only way to see the screen is to put it off & on again. The fuzziness is headache worthy. From the reviews I read, it seems like it is a delicate build & not made to last & that the screen problem I am experiencing is due to some fault or lose connection.
Prior to that (for four months) I did like it. It is slick, slim & light. The battery lasts quite a good while (but I have only had it for five months I suppose). I have dropped it a few times but it seems to be quite sturdy (unless that is what triggered the screen being funny).

However, the camera is very slow & you often take a picture on the move thinking you have already taken the picture (but the quality of the image is good). The ring tones are not that great though & the predictive text is slower than my typing. The sensitive touch did occasionally drive me mad but I think that got better after adjusting it. O2 Internet via this phone is absolutely useless. I was denied access to everything & never made use of the option.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend it. Nothing beats the old chunky phones that last.

I am taking this phone back tomorrow & exchanging it for Sony Ericsson W380i. The volume on it is so LOW! & I had a Samsung D900i (great phone) before this & that was so much louder than this

I am really disappointed at how the volume is. Its low when playing music & its low when hearing somebody speak during a call.

I rang Samsung about it, I told the guy about this volume problem & was told that nothing can be done about it.

I did enquire as to how & why is it that what's presumably an upgrade (U600 to the D900) should have lower volume than the D900. I didn't get any good answer except this is how things are &, get this, I was told that IT'S A PHONE NOT A MUSIC PLAYER!

Well, I am going to get a Sony Ericsson W380i, exact same price but they say It's a Walkman phone, which means it takes music very seriously.

Good job, don't get U600 if you want to play loud music on it. Search the Internet, & you'll see this problem with volume is something a lot of people have had with it.

I have had this phone since December 2006. Got it for Xmas & it managed to start playing up & breaking by February 2007. Have had various problems with, including it breaking on the texting & just freezing & going back to the original screen this eventually got worse & worse until I could no longer text. It would also continuously look like it had turned itself off & go to the welcome screen when you turn your phone off, this would sometimes be in the middle of texting. It then went through a phase of the screen blanking out every time I chose something in the menu send would flicker on & off every time someone phone me as if there was a loose connection & I could not see who was ringing me. I got so fed up in the end as could not see what I was selecting or what I was texting. Each of these problems I took it back to Carphone Warehouse for repair.

By the fourth time of repair in the 8 months I had it I got fed up of continuous repairs I asked for a replacement but they would only offer a reconditioned phone! Someone else's phone that has broken previously! Once I got fed up of how rubbish that was I rung Samsung & spoke to them & said they would not take it in for repair as it was no longer the phone I had originally bought! Which Carphone Warehose had not told me! It is now just past the years warranty so I can no longer take it back to the shop for repair, & it has died on me, I can no longer use ANY of the buttons on the top half of the slider, so I can open no messages or phone anyone all I can do is look at the home screen! Totally useless! Has been from 2 months of having it. When working is a good phone to have just a shame it spent more time in the shop than I had it!

Have now gone back to my D600 again which works well every time I have had to use it when the U600 was in for repair. Such a difference shame Samsung couldn't get it right on both phones!

I got this phone for Christmas in 2007. Was brilliant until around Christmas 2008 after that it turned on one morning later that day I took it out my pocket & it was off, wouldn't turn on whatever you did to it. Waited for my dad to come home from work & gave it to him. I don't know what he did to it but he managed to get it working. It was fine for the rest of that day.

The next day I went to change the background did what I usually do to change it, said it had saved, went back to my home screen & it hadn't saved it but had changed it to the original one it came with & now won't change from that one at all.

Now stuck with a boring background went to try again, went to my pictures & they had all been deleted as well as my video's, music & sounds. Around a month before Christmas 2008 my memory card was cleared as well so once again I had lost all my pictures & video's.

Overall this phone is great but if you were going to buy one be prepared for some trouble & don't plan to keep it longer than a year without any problems.

The screen is very flimsy so once that cracked for no apparent reason except sitting in my handbag I decided to bin the handset & go back to my trusty old Samsung D600. Can't believe the difference in the two phones! Don't buy it!

I bought this phone on the 23rd of December after having a Nokia 7373 in Pink & I didn't realise that I could get a better phone than the Nokia 7373 until I bought this phone the (Samsung u600) I got a 2GB memory card, Phone sock, £20 pound credit & the Pink Samsung U600 its self all for £80 which I found a bargain. It's such a good phone I dropped it only once & with my Nokia I was dropping it all the time. I got my deal from the Carphone Warehouse I recommend them 100% the Samsung U600 would be a definite recommend best phone I have ever had or used & trust me that's a lot! Hope my review helped, Sophie x:).

I had this phone for a month & then all of a sudden, the screen went funny & it didn't turn back on after that. To be honest, this phone is rubbish. I thought about getting it fixed, but I can't be bothered. There's a 50% chance that it will break again judging be these reviews! I have now gone back to my Nokia 6111 & I think that after 3 years of having it is still great :).

Nokia 6111 is recommended.

I got this phone today from Tesco for £49. I am really happy with it. The touch buttons are a bit hard to get used to, but you can change the sensitivity level. I've had an LG Shine before & the touch buttons on that are much harder to use (that one went in the bin! )

& you don't have to use the touch buttons on some things if you don't want to (use middle button).

The camera pictures are brilliant & it's not flimsy at all, predictive text is better than before.

I think people are being picky about this phone & its well worth the money.

If you want even better features then you're going to have to pay more.

Yes I admit the camera is slow but the quality is great!

I have the ultra edition one with a few more features, you can change the touch sensitivity on it so that you have to press it slightly harder meanly if accidently touch it, it won't matter!

Do be careful though because they break easily! Thanks.

It's quite difficult to use at first, but you then get used to it. Touch keys annoyed me at the beginning as I always used to ring people by accident, but you can always reduce the sensitivity. I haven't experienced the phone freezing yet. The camera is quite a problem because you literally have to wait like 5 seconds for it to get to the camera mode & then another 6 to 7 seconds for the photo to capture, so not very convenient in some situations.

Overall I do like the phone though. Nice design & it is a decent usable phone.

Well. To start with this phone looks stunning as I have got the u600 black gold ultra edition 2 & are the features, the screen is quite big too! But there are some drawbacks in usability first that it is quite slow to load things up & the other is that it cannot have no themes! Which is really poor as almost all other phones have this advantage.

Overall this phone is amazing & especially the features all this at just 48.88 GBP.

The look & features of this phone is very good. However, it has become almost impossible to text on. When writing a text message it will freeze & then restart, this has got progressively worse & it is now almost every time I write a text, making it virtually impossible to use.

This is actually my second U600. I took my old one back because of the same problem & they fixed it, it worked okay for a few weeks & then got worse & worse. It is not out of guarantee so the only choice I have is to put up with it or buy a new one (& definitely not a Samsung one! ).

Also, it will not save words in the predictive text dictionary so you have to write them in every time you use them.

Oh & the battery life is shocking!

All in all, although the features & look of this phone are very good I would not recommend buying it purely because of the constant (& very annoying! ) problems I, & many other people, have had.

But I hate the way it freezes & crashes when using T9 predictive text (& then I have to go all the way to Carphone Warehouse to get it sorted, leaving me without a phone for days & then it comes completely wiped of all contacts & photos etc), it takes forever to take a photo, & even now after having this phone for a year I still accidentally catch the touch sensitive button & exit things, delete things, hang up on people by mistake! But then of course, it doesn't work too well in the winter months if your hands are cold either! Such a shame as everything else about the phone is great! I will not get this one again, but will get another Samsung next time.

Well I have had this phone a year & a half now, so to be honest my review is probably the most reliable & accurate. Firstly I still love the phone. The design is sleek, but the only problem is it is easily scratched & the cover wears away quite a lot. The phone is easy to slide & protects the 3.2 mega pixel camera well. I really like the touch screen buttons being where they are, it is handy & easy to get used to. They sometimes accidently exit things which gets annoying but you get used to that. The keypad itself is quite small & the buttons are not well defined so you only have to touch them gently to press them. I got used to my phone in about 3 days fully, so it is pretty easy to get to grips with if you have had something totally different before.

The features on the phone are good, some of the really good ones that stand out to me are the camera, it's clear, can change the effects, take more than one picture, have a background for the picture, flash. I have a big problem though, I am a person who likes to take a lot of photos, & my camera has just gone strange, negative & can't be turned back- I'd like to add that this is not an effect I have put on it. The reason I am getting a new phone is because my camera no longer works, I think this may be due to age of the phone in general but it is still a big disappointment as it is so good. Another feature of the phone is the image editor, it contains so many options to edit your photos, although you cannot edit your videos, & you can only edit your photos you have taken, not photos you have downloaded etc. The phone is all round good with the features, the only thing it lacks is the ability to create more folders for your stuff. The music player is very good, & browsing your music is easy. When you are on the phone you can still browse your phone although it creates a lot of interference for the person you are on the phone to which gets quite annoying. You can text & listen to music at the same time, although you cannot browse images at the same time.

The phone is in general very easy to use when you know how as with anything. I would still recommend buying it even today. A lot of my friends who have it have said there's broke, but I never experienced this. Oh yes another great thing about is that it protects the slots for your charger & your memory card.

The worst part to this phone is its poor battery life, it is extremely poor & needs charging every night!

But if you can put that to one side, then I would recommend you buy thing phone if your looking for a fun phone with a good camera as well as high quality sound.

Another great Samsung phone, well done you! Thank you for your time, I hope this review helped you choose what phone you want to buy :). Sarah x.

I have had this phone since Christmas 2007 (so nearly a year LOL) I have had no problems with it at all! I have found that the dialling screen is really quite slow & often tends to miss numbers out. Also when taking photos is it quite easy to catch the touch buttons but once you get used to the phone you know where they are so it doesn't affect you as much.

The camera is an excellent quality for its megapixels, & texting is simple & easy.

For a year it has been fine, but today when I got up my touch buttons wouldn't work, I have tried everything so I can't read messages, or go onto my pictures because I can't even get on to menu or contacts & my arrows don't work, the only thing I can do is dial!

But I have had it for a while now, so overall it is an excellent phone & I would recommend it, but be careful with the touch buttons!

I got this phone in June & I still love it, I was a bit unsure because of all the reviews I read at first about it being REALLY sensitive in your pocket but it isn't because the screens buttons are automatically switched off when the slide is down.

The camera is really good, with the flash I have been able to take a lot more pictures. Also the video camera is excellent.

Texting is pretty easy, a couple of times I have left my finger on the button that deletes a letter & the whole text has gone but that's a one off thing.

Everything about this phone is really good, I can only think that other people who have had this phone got very faulty ones because after 7 months nothing has happened!

Things you should know before you buy this phone.

- It contains 2 moisture detection stickers, one on the battery which you can see, & one tucked away inside that you can't.

- If you have any problem with the phone & just one of the stickers has changed from white to red the warranty is completely invalid. Repair centres won't even investigate the problem! You're not covered under the Sale of Goods Act unless you pay for an independent report which can prove the goods were faulty when manufactured (I checked this out with Trading Standards).

- Although the user guide tells you not to get the phone wet, it doesn't tell that the sticker will detect moisture if you get any condensation in the phone or use it in a high humidity environment e.g. You bring it inside when it's been cold outside, you use it in a kitchen after someone's been cooking. (Obviously if both stickers haven't changed you can prove you didn't drop the phone in a puddle or down the loo.)

- My phone lasted less than 3 months from new to landfill, be warned! The Tesco Repairs centre were quite sympathetic & clearly believed the phone hadn't been mistreated but they say they are limited by the Samsung warranty.

The menus do not contain what I expect them to nor can I set a number of settings to my preferences, they simply aren't available.

Having stayed with the same network I cannot receive phone calls on this phone so presumably the antenna is not very effective. I bought the candy pink U600 & had it for over year & everything was fine. The phone was very slow at some points especially when it came to loading the music player but it didn't seem to bother me.

One day the phone came turning itself on & off every 10 minutes & the screen would turn on to the welcome Samsung bit at the beginning & then would cut out. I would take the battery out of the back & the key lights where still on! (Even though there was no power going into the phone).

I took the phone to my Phone Doctor & he said that it was irreparable even thought I had done nothing to it for it to turn out like this.

I wouldn't really advise anyone to buy this phone, because when this happened to my phone, something similar happened to my cousins U600 & that stopped working too.

From reading some of these reviews, I guess I was lucky with my phone.

I got my candy pink U600 last December & had very few problems. The only thing I would say, is that music is a bit slow to load up, though I must admit, I had over 100 on my memory card.

Also, when it's sending a text, it now & again freezes & so you need to turn it on & off.
& lastly, the camera is a bit slow in taking & so some pictures blur or I've missed the chance by the time its finished.

When I first got it, I had problems writing texts because I kept accidentally deleting it with the touch button LOL! But I got used to it quick enough.

The thing is, I spilt a drink on it & now my camera doesn't work. It's all green & weird. Also, my memory card slot doesn't work. My phone doesn't seem to realise I've got one in.

It still lets me ring & text well enough though, which is pretty good considering it was a LOT of water.

I've lost my guarantee for it & so I am gutted because I need a new one really, the lack of camera & music on my memory card depresses me.

I bought this phone because of its slimness & find it easy to use. I am sure I'll soon get used to the sensitive buttons. BUT the instruction book is useless when it comes to the camera part & the menu for that aspect is not very helpful. I have been unable to regularly download photos with the USB lead, sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. So I bought a micro SD card adaptor only to find the card was empty. I then discovered you have to copy the photos on to the card each time, there doesn't seem to be a way of automatically saving to the card. I've not yet discovered how to take a video without the built in memory running out half way through if there are already many images on it. You really do have to find out for yourself how to work the camera. No doubt it will all become clear in the end. I may be wrong with some of my assumptions, perhaps its early days still! Photo quality seems excellent, though not so good indoors. I would recommend this phone, but only if you have patience & perseverance, or this is not the first phone & camera you've owned. Perhaps they're all like this.

This is a quality phone I have had it for 18 months & it has been perfect, all you moaning about calls cutting off because the button touches you're cheek in a call that is nonsense because you have to press the middle button when in a call to get the touch sensitive buttons to work without pressing the button you can touch all other buttons as much as you like because they are locked & as for calling the person you are trying to text. I have tried pressing the call button when selecting a contact to text & it doesn't allow you to text them, so please don't moan, it is a class phone.

I am now on my THIRD U600, I've had nothing but problems with this model, each U600 either not charging properly, or dying completely on me, or being so super sensitive that I had a cracked screen. I am a very careful user & have never had any problems like these with any other mobile. It's extremely touch sensitive which is also a total pain. Oh & Samsung's predictive text facility apparently 'went down' so I was unable to use that at one point too.

I will be returning to a solid, no nonsense Nokia or a Sony Ericsson as soon as my 18 month contract runs out early 2009.

Not twice. But another 3 times. Then once it had been repaired 3 times. The touch screen buttons became really un sensitive. Another repair & another phone. PS. Don't buy it!

I love my U600 but it does have its faults. I have been careful with mine but a friend who kept his in his pocket all the time broke it in record time. The touch pads are a nuisance because it is easy to cut yourself off mid conversation by touching them with your cheek. & the battery does go flat quickly. Other than that I like it. I have a G600 contract phone which I like a lot less so I don't use it. U600 is a lot easier to use.

ALSO why does it not save the time & date details of sent messages! Does anyone know why this is? I like to know the time & date I sent a message & other phones I have had have given this information. It does tell you these details of received messages but not sent?

I've had this phone for a year & 2 months (roughly). I love it! It's only been severely broken once, but that was my fault.

The camera DOES take a long time, but that's because of the auto focus & I've gotten used to it now.

I've had a problem with it recently, the left touch key stopped working for me (the menu one) for no reason & I've had to take it the repair shop, but since I've had it for so long, it's only happened this time so it shouldn't be a common problem.

For those who are GOING to buy it or thinking about it, I'd suggest buying a screen guard as well. The screen scratches easily, just like other phones, but as it's a touch sensitive phone, if you want to change the screen, it's going to cost a little bit because of the touch keys, but other than that, nothing else.

I'd recommend this phone, though in the beginning it's a bit of a bother till you figure out how the touch keys work etc.

I must be the owner of the best u600 phone around. My own model has never frozen ridiculously on me, has been battered around like god knows what, & still works perfectly fine.

I've dropped in mud at a festival & all I had to do was to wait for it to dry & scrape the dry mud off & it was like new. I have also got it extremely wet whilst charging it (at same festival), it wouldn't turn on. Again, all I had to do was to wait for it to dry off, & then it started up again fine. It may look fragile, but mines certainly taken some knocks & come up rosy.

The touch buttons are very sensitive, & when I first got it, I was forever accidently ringing people. But it's one of those things that become second nature to you, & I haven't had a problem with them since. The phone is a year old, & has never once frozen over about 10 seconds. The screen is pretty scratched because I've dropped it so much, yet it still manages to look great. I love the super slim design & it's such a good looking phone.

The only qualm I have, is signal problems, which seem to be an ongoing problem with this particular model. You can stand in the same place & get full signal & no signal in the space of a minute. Sometimes when I send a text, it goes from full signal to nothing. It's frustrating yes, but I still love this phone.

This phone is honestly the worst phone I have ever had.

I was suckered in with all the fancy touch sensitive buttons & the extra toys. It is unfortunately don't exit to the menu.

Turning the light on is impossible. If you're doing something & you want someone else to shine a light on you, again, this takes a lengthy lesson in how to hold the phone, how to make sure you don't accidentally press any of the other buttons & so on.

Texting is equally appalling. If you accidentally hit the clear & call end button, you are given the option of either exiting, or saving your message to drafts. There is no cancel button, meaning that if you so much as brush your thumb against the touch sensitive button, you have to start again, or exit, go back into drafts, find the message.

The build quality is poor also. I admit, I am a heavy phone user, but the screen on this phone is so scratched, whilst it was still working, I could barely see it. It's also appalling in the sun. If you want to look at pictures you've taken on a sunny day, think again.

Less than 1 year into my 24 month contract, I now have no working phone.

Overall, this phone looks great. It's got some nice ideas that, with just a little sensible thought, could make it into a fantastic phone. However, that sensible thought is obviously lacking from the Samsung offices, & far more crucial than making a quality piece of engineering is making a quick buck.

For this reason, I would strongly try & dissuade anyone from buying one of these phones.

The touch sensitive buttons are great & there's plenty of room on the keypad to text.

The camera takes no more time to take a picture than on my old Samsung d900 so don't know why people are moaning about that seen as its a high resolution picture.

Easy to use & easy to navigate.

If you have vista on your computer & you want to transfer your pictures from PC to phone or phone to PC, all you need is a Bluetooth dongle that you stick in your usb port in your computer.

It don't reset itself & as for the sensitivity, I think if you own a phone after the first few uses you should know how sensitive it is, so I have no problem with the sensitivity & I don't see how you can delete your messages when it practically ask you about three times or so if you want to delete, once you take care of your phone, your phone will give you good service don't know for others but it works for me.

Not quite sure what to make of this phone. I am actually on my second one of these, as the first one went totally haywire after only three weeks of use. It couldn't hold a charge at all (although I later found out that this happens if you don't FULLY charge the phone before you start using it) & then the screen began to flip upside down, back to front & crash totally.

Virgin changed the phone no questions asked, although the guy in the shop did give me a kind of oh no not another one look, when I told him about the problems! That was back in January & the replacement phone has been faultless. Until a couple of weeks ago when the dreaded screen problems came back again. Not as bad as before, but just as annoying.

I get green lines & dead pixels all over the screen & it will often blur & break up when writing texts or scrolling through menus. I am going to head over to Zavvi this evening & try to get another replacement, but I am not too hopeful as I've only got 3 months left of my contract so they may just tell me to go away & wait until it's due to expire.

Overall though, the phone is good & has a lot of excellent features. It just seems to be full of bugs & glitches & without these it would be excellent. It takes very good pictures (once the camera decides to take them! ) & I can easily transfer them to my MacBook via Bluetooth. Gets a good (ish) reception on Virgin, but to be honest any problems in that area are more down to the provider than anything else.

Anyway, hopefully I can get this thing sorted tonight but if not I think I'll be going for a Samsung Omnia on Vodafone next!

I was reluctant to send it away as it's my only form of contact for my job & at home & didn't have another phone I could borrow or get my hands on unless I bought another cheap one. I refused to send it off as it's a known problem with these screens in which phones 4 you denied & refused to comment on the phone! I have been informed by a private phone repair company that they & other private company's will not touch this phone due to its ongoing screen problem.

So Phones 4 you told me if I sent the phone back & on the third time it isn't repairable they will replace the phone but problem is it is repairable & I refuse to send my phone of every month to get it repaired! This phone will not last the 18 month contract & as for usage nice lay out but it kicks you off when texting & randomly connects to browser when trying to navigate through phone & calls people as the screen is so sensitive even if you turn it down to its lowest setting! I am so angry with regards to my Samsung U600. I never right reviews but had to get this down for all to see.

I bought my pay as you go mobile a week past on Saturday from my local Orange shop. A week exactly to the day I bought it, I had received a text, sent a text & then placed my phone down. About half an hour later I went to use it & there was no power to the phone, it had just died. It had been charged, so I knew there was plenty of charge, however, I plugged in charger & again there was no power getting to the phone.

I phoned the Orange shop & was advised to take it in. This I did, what happens, the assistant plugs it in & it works. I was advised as they couldn't see the problem there was nothing they could do.

Tonight I decided to take a photo with the camera & it kept failing, I then go in to look at my images that I had taken during the week & they have all gone. I AM FURIOUS. I had taken a lot of precious photos.

My camera has now reset itself back to the original wallpaper, original ringtone (I have lost all my music too) I have no media saved & I did NOTHING to it.

I will be in at the Orange shop tomorrow as soon as it opens & my fear is, they do nothing. I have lost faith with this phone & wish I had never bought it, I do not want a repair if I get offered one, especially after only owning it for a week!

I bought this phone within a week of it coming out. At first everything was fine, the touch screen buttons took a bit of getting used to but were OK after a while.

However, soon the paint around the edges of the phone started to wear off, contrasting the supposed sleek looks of it. I too like others have had the misfortune of people calling me & being unable to hear me, yet I could hear them. It gets annoying, especially since you have to use credit in returning the call!

The camera is OK quality wise however the delay means it is useless at taking pictures of moving objects & you have to hold it extremely still due to the long shutter delay.

I found it annoying that once photos for example were on the memory card you were unable to scroll through them without returning to the main menu time & time again (maybe this is to do with the memory card format however? )

When connecting to the PC, another bug was the fact that you had to move files back off the memory card to enable transfer to PC, this wasted a lot of time. After several months, the software would not let me play back videos on my PC originally taken with the phone (due to missing software library) the updater also failed to work.

The nail in the coffin was when I had the phone for 7 months, left it on my bed & inadvertently put my elbow on the phone, completely ruining the screen (& actual LCD part underneath). The phone sits in the living room waiting for me to decide whether to replace it or not!

Overall it wowed me at the start with its good looks & promise however it soon disappoints after a few months of use.

No one has ever done that before. I was also annoyed as no one had bothered to ring me about this, & as I was saying this to the person on the other end of the line, she put the phone down! Second is that the reason there are so many bad reviews is because people who no it's good do not bother writing reviews. Third is that I LOVE THIS PHONE!

I have had this phone since Christmas 2007 & am giving it up when I get a Sony Ericsson Christmas 2008. The reason for the is because the phone is a let down. I am the type of person that loves pictures, & after a few months of having the mobile, the camera bailed out on me. The quality is horrible now, the pictures & the pictures look wierd. I have only experience crashing when I sometimes save my messages. Sometimes they'll save, semetimes they'll crash & restart the mobile & not save. It's awkward but apart from that, theres been no crashing. The only good thing about this phone is the design of it, & the amount of space a memory card provides. I have got a 2GB memory card & I can fit hundrends of songs onto it.

I wouldn't recommend this phone if you're one who likes taking pictures & videos. Bye.

When I first got the phone I was so pleased. I purchased the pink Samsung & its sleek look & touch screen system made me the envy of all my friends.

However, after 6 months I am severely disappointed & am currently buying a new phone.

The following things are wrong with the phone.
- The battery life is very short & I have to charge my phone every other day which is a pain.
- The colour has chipped around the screen to reveal a horrid metallic colour underneath (re spray is going to cost me £30).
- The touch sensitive buttons are a pain. Simply brushing the green phone with your fingers causes you to accidentally phone someone & accidentally brushing the red phone while texting (which is right next to the cancel button) causes you to exit off the text with no option of returning to the text.
- The phone continually freezes meaning I have to take out the battery.
- The camera takes AGES to take a photo! The time between pressing the button & the photo actually taking is so long that everyone gets bored & walks away.
- Texting is very difficult. The predictive hardly ever remembers words & it is a pain to get the word you are looking for.
- My Internet (with virgin, which by the way, I found to be the worst service in the world) still does not work.

There are many many more faults than this.

Overall the phone looks good & has OK features & is great when brand new but only buy this phone if you have a lot of patience & time.

After a few uneventful weeks the speaker decided to break, meaning I had no way of actually hearing the person who was ringing me. The screen then scrambled & eventually went black & impossible to use. This has happened three times & each time Orange send it back from being repaired the exact same thing happens. What a waste of a 100 quid. My advice, put your money towards something with some actual durablity because this phone is a joke.

I have had this phone since April 2007. It is the original phone I had. It has worked with no problems for me. I have dropped it. Many a time & still have it in working order. I agree the camera is slow when needing to take another picture but after so long I have got used to this. The touch sensitive buttons took a while to get used to but now I think I will find it difficult to get used to normal buttons. They do have to be touched a couple of times but apart from that, I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. The memory without an external memory card isn't the best but I have just not bought a memory card but survived.

Everything I think is brilliant. My only dilemma is what phone do I get next? I am due my upgrade & love Samsungs! I don't like the U900 & toying between F400, U800 & a couple others. Any help would be appreciated!

The buttons are rubbish, the touchpad thing is bad, & if you have even averagely sized fingers, you will find yourself pushing three flipping BUTTONS AT ONCE.

On top of this, the built in software is so rubbish that after a month or two, when you ring people (or they ring you, doesn't happen often to me, can't imagine why), you can hear yourself, but they can't HEAR YOU!

In conclusion, all Samsung phones are rubbish (with reference from just one, but that's all I need) & you should buy something half decent.

Every phone has its problems, but this one seems to have a lot of a problems (& now that I come to think of it, not many upsides, either.)

The predictive texting is a complete joke, although the camera is half decent (when the shutter finally flipping closes) & that's all I can think of. The thing just locked me out, too.

The camera is very very very slow & it is so thin that I hate it when I text or am on the phone it wobbles & is not very nice I decide to get this phone as one of my friends has it & seemed like a very good phone until a month after I got mine her touch pad broke which seems like a common thing she has her phone for 3 months.

The touch screen is also a pain as it hardly ever works when you want it too. The phone is very good but the features are terrible I am not happy with it & I am now switching to contract & on the LG secret. I have also used different phones I.e. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung & I have found Samsung is very good but I like a change. Phone recommended for business men but not for youngsters who will use it constantly & for the memory!

Also the battery life is fine for me never experienced any problems with the phone itself I just don't like it.

Firstly, I am a very careful low phone user who always passes my old phones onto others as they are in such good condition!

However, like so many others, I wish I had read the reviews before launching into an 18 month contract with this phone. BIG MISTAKE & ONE WHICH I WILL NOT REPEAT.

My first phone stopped accepting charge & went completely dead after about 3 months, when I rang T Mobile they said it was the battery & sent me a replacement. I tried the new battery but the same problems occurred. Took it into T Mobile for repair & made do with a terrible loan phone. 3 weeks later, collected my repaired phone. Still broken & obviously all the memory had gone! I rang my provider & firmly told them how unhappy I was & they kindly sent me a brand new handset & assured me that they had experienced few problems with this phone. That was 5 weeks ago.

Yesterday, my new phone indicated that charging was required (even though it had been on charge all evening) & then an hour later it went dead! Rang T mobile who informed me that my problems were isolated & they had received few problems with this phone (charging or otherwise) again I was informed that my only option was to take it in for repair, wait 3 weeks & if it was still broken they would be prepared to offer me a replacement but it would be the SAMSUNG U600 & nothing else. So, this evening I took it in for repair. When I came home I decided to find out if anybody else was experiencing problems & found to my surprise that I was not alone.

I was extremely cross that I had been mislead by my provider into thinking I was the only person experiencing problems with this handset & I decided to inform T Mobile about this website & how many negative comments there were about this phone! Which I did & the outcome being that they have now agreed that if the phone comes back & is still broken then I can have a replacement handset & NOT the Samsung U600.

AVOID THIS PHONE AT ALL COSTS!

Great phone when you fist get it, it's stylish & you DO get used to the keyboard within about three days.

However, the camera is rubbish unless you can get people to pose for about 20 seconds from when you've first tried to press the button. The flash is also a real pain to activate.

As previously mentioned, the touch sensitive buttons are far too sensitive & the number of times you'll exit what you're doing by pressing the right silver button (whilst aiming for the right white button) is just infuriating.

I too am now suffering from the predictive text crashing after having had the phone for about 9 months. Subsequently having to send texts using the non predictive text method, though this has also crashed once or twice.

In all, this is more of a phone for show than for use, don't buy one unless you only want it for style & calls.

That said, the battery life is also shocking. Even when brand new, it required charging more often than any other mobile I've ever had.

Far & away the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune to use. It is awful. The touch sensitive buttons dial people with the merest brush, text messages delete themselves. There is no zoom on the photos & worst of all the so called PC Suite that comes on the CD is incompatible with Vista meaning I can't remove any photos onto my laptop. Also the memory card is not Micro or M2. I want to smash this phone into a million pieces.

Overall a great phone, had it for nearly a year after an upgrade from my D600. However I am now using the D600 because the screen decided to flip the images back to front & upside down before eventually crashing all together, before that though it worked brilliantly. The camera was sharp & detailed without blur or grainy images but it does take an age for it to take the photo, so no good when you are touring Italy unless you like pictures of trees because by the time it took the picture the moment was gone.

But that apart had no problems with software or texting, I only had to reset the MMS settings once after I dropped it. Would recommend it to most people, looking at upgrading now to the G600 but having read the reviews not so sure, might just get another of these.

Whatever you do, DON'T get it on O2 couldn't get a signal anywhere, mates have it with Vodafone & Orange & don't have any of the problems.

Received this phone through virgin mobile on the 8th July 2008, was great to start with, mastered how it worked OK but after first couple of weeks or so noticed battery power dreadful was only barely lasting 24 hours if that. Another problem was after having had several Samsung's over the years with no problems at all discovered that the actual reception on this was awful, could hardly get a signal anywhere & I stay in middle of Perth, not exactly in the middle of nowhere. As it stands, am due to get a replacement model tomorrow from virgin mobile so we'll see what happens then. Am not happy with virgin mobile either over their policies as regards returns either but that is another issue.

Overall was relatively happy with this phone but short battery life was a big letdown & the camera was very slow.

I would give it 5 out of 10, Samsung do much better phones than this. For the money you could get a much better phone elsewhere.

First of all I have to admit I love the Samsung U600 love the design it looks great. I recently bought the black & gold one but like everyone it took a while to get used to the uber-sensitive buttons then it was cool.

But just a couple of days ago I was charging my phone & after bout an hour plugged it out but then the low battery warning came on! I plugged it back in but within the hour the battery wasted & the phone turned off even though it was charging!

brought it back to the shop but missed the refund policy by 3 days so was told to go get it fixed which I did & was told it couldn't be fixed due to moisture damage, I never got water near it I was so careful. So now after three weeks I have a broken phone & 169 euro down the drain basically, & because its moisture damage its not covered by warranty.

The one thing that is annoying me is I was told it could of been as simple as leaving my phone in a cold room & the heat from the normal working of the phone could cause condensation thus moisture damage! That to me is a major fault in designing a phone. & I repeat I never spilled anything near my phone used it in the rain or anything it just genuinely stopped working & I was surprised to hear it was moisture damage!

Yet give me another Samsung U600 or FIX mine & I would gladly take it back ha ha.

A really poor phone all round that puts to much emphasis on looks & has forgotten all about functionality. Mine has gone wrong on several occasions from screen problems to freezing spontaneously. The button layout is extremely difficult to get used to even after several months of use & you will find yourself accidentally deleting texts & other files without meaning to do so. The touch sensitive buttons are far too sensitive & apart from seeming like a good idea, they only slow down the browsing & texting experience. Depressible buttons would be far better suited to this phone. All in all, a really poor phone that looks OK from the outside, but is a disaster waiting to happen.

The Samsung U600 is SUCH A STYLISH PHONE, which being a teenage girl (which I am) is essential as you can imagine. There are a few main features which many people think a phone has to have (In no particular order):

1: It looks good:

This phone comes in many different colours & is so sleek. The hole for the charger is located under a flap on the side which is designed perfectly with a great fit so it really doesn't stick out.

2. It works as a phone:

Which it certainly does. The volume is good as well. (I am not an expert on this bit!)

3. Camera:

A great 3.2 mega pixel camera, loads of settings on your photos, borders, tints, styles, mosaic, timer etc.

I also love the fact that you can personalise it by adding your pics as your homepage & you can also make the pic on your homepage themed. The more clouds in the scene the worse the connection! It's so cute! One small things, which is wrong with all (well I think with all) Samsungs phones is that they have no hole for phone charms, which me & my other 3 friends which have this amazing phone find annoying.

Sometimes also you have to press several times on the sensors for them to work, but that could just be me. I love the shortcut menu, the slide design & most other things so I hope you will be happy if you ever get this phone.

Had this phone for a week now, & I love it.

Its looks fantastic, it's slim & light, sometimes I forget it's in my pocket.

Yes the camera does have a slight delay, but despite that its takes great photos. The MP3 player sounds brilliant through the headphones, far better than my sons Sony Ericsson w580i.

I have not had any problems with the touch sensitive buttons, those of you that are moaning about them should go into your settings & alter the sensitivity then you wouldn't be deleting your message as you write them.

You can download java games to it, but you will need to get a code first as this enables you to install java on your phone.

The battery life isn't too bad. If you constantly listen to music or play games with it you can't expect you battery to last forever.

I would recommend this phone to anyone, it's the best phone I have had in ages.

I'd say the Samsung U600 overall is OK.

As people have said, there are MANY better phones out there.

I find the touch screen buttons annoying when I put my thumb on one of them by mistake & lose whatever I was doing. My camera takes a good 5 seconds to actually take the photo after I've pressed the button. This is very annoying because I've been trying to take pictures of my 3 week old kittens, & by the time my phone has taken the photo the kittens have moved.

When I got my phone, the screen, the top half of the phone was quite lose & there was a bit of a gap between it & the bottom half of the phone, the buttons. I was a bit annoyed with this & once I placed my sim card in & the battery, the gap got even bigger & the top half was wobbling once it was slid open. The slider then kept stopping half way & at that point I was certain I was going to take it back. After a few more goes at sliding it, it fixed & I managed to press the screen so it clicked together & the gap was much thinner. I decided to keep the phone then but realised there was a small scratch that looks Orange next to my screen. It's inside & I really can't be bothered to take my phone back because of that. On top of all of this, I had no earphones with my phone & I am still waiting for the £10 airtime I paid for 2 days ago, which hasn't come.

So yeah, I suppose what's happened with my phone probably won't happen to anyone else but there are much better phones to choose from which are around the same price range as the Samsung U600.

Orange has been hopeless & both Samsung & Orange should be hauled over the coals for continuing to sell this one, check out the Orange website, Orange recommends Samsung on pay as you go! I found out that Orange does not send this phone to Samsung for repair but to another repairer, this is not good. The phone is being sent back by Orange for the second time to this independent repairer. After this it's goodbye to Orange & no more Samsung, back to Nokia & another service provider.

It's so annoying so now I've just turned the dictionary off altogether. Hard to believe that Samsung can't get such a basic function correct. The touch screen is pretty sensitive but you get used to that after a while, I didn't really find a problem with it at all. For some reason, when I send my sister photo's to her LG phone, she can't open them. The camera does seem to take an eternity to actually take a photo. I don't find that I need to recharge the battery that often, maybe every 2nd or 3rd day.

I also dropped my old phone quite frequently but I've been much more careful with this one.

My battery lasts for about a week but I don't leave the Bluetooth on & I switch it off at night. The touch sensitive buttons did take a bit of getting used to but aren't a problem now.

I've found that if I just empty my recent contacts every so often then there is no one for me to accidentally call with the touch sensitive buttons.

I also found that holding down the hash key while writing a text gives you the choice of all the symbols available.

All in all, I like this phone. Just keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to like me too & behaves itself.

I absolutely love this phone & can't understand all the bad reviews. This was my first Samsung & will always choose Samsung in future. I have another contract phone as well as this one & that one is also a Samsung (got a F400 last week when I upgraded). The touch sensitive keys took a bit of getting used to but its fine now. I've had this phone nearly a year. In that time it has turned itself off about 5 times but in my experience, other phones do too. I find it's when you are rushing something it happens. Slow down & then it won't happen!

The battery life on mine is mainly good, especially on calls. But games do drain it but that can only be expected. All batteries, not just on new phones, need to be fully discharged & charged from time to time, so anyone moaning about the battery life TRY THIS!

I always keep my phone is a phone sock when not in use. If you put it in your bag or pocket unprotected you can only expect something to happen to it. Phones need to be looked after just like anything else electrical. So cracked screens etc are not a fault of the phone, only the user! I dropped my phone once, it was while texting & was quite hard, but didn't affect it at all, I was lucky. It's a shame Samsung didn't allow for a wrist strap to be attached.

The camera does have a slight delay & so can the video recorder. But as other people have said, if you want a camera buy a camera! The quality of pictures is excellent.

I would definitely recommend this phone, without a doubt. Those who don't are just too picky!

This is honestly the WORST PHONE I've ever had. I am on my third handset & each one just gets worse. I have always loved Samsungs & really wanted to like this phone. But now it's just annoying.

Here are some of the problems.

- Camera fails & won't work unless you wipe everything else off the phone completely (photos, music, texts).

- Text messages fail & there is no way to read them.

- Copying from memory card to phone fails so cannot use any stored photos or music.
- Alarms rename themselves as very random things (the best was if you want to extend the rights to this you need to buy a key) & they also set themselves for times like 254:35.

- Frequently switches off of its own accord & the only way to turn it back on is to remove the battery which then resets the phone to factory settings, wiping everything.

& the list goes on!

One thing that isn't bad is the battery life, but that's probably only because I can't actually use the phone for anything except making a basic call.

All in all, AVOID THIS PHONE. The only reason I have persevered with 3 handsets is because it is actually quite amusing to see what it will come up with next.

I have had this phone since September. Good phone the camera is excellent pictures are pretty good, well what else would you expect from a 3.2 MP camera. But there are some drawbacks.

The slide is giving problems the screen keeps flickering, is this a drawback of excessive sliding? Battery life is average so long as you keep the Bluetooth off.

I have read about issue of the screen cracking but I have not had any such problems.

Another grouse I have is the fact that the keys are very sensitive, & if touched by accident can cut alls off.

On the whole a descent phone, but could have been better.

After receiving my NEW U600 after the last one was seriously faulty I thought I'd see what others thought about theirs.

I would say the first thing about it is the touch sensitivity of the thing. REALLY frustrating when you've written a whole text & accidentally (but way too easily) gets deleted due to the sensitivity of the buttons.

The other con's of this phone which I've read on here with alarming regularity is the cracking of the screen (NEVER) have I damaged a mobile in all the many years I've had them but this one is obviously super sensitive to even the smallest knock. The main problem with it is the battery life is totally shocking, I've had to charge it up TWICE a day sometimes, the same as someone else's review it gets worse & worse. Finally my U600 started to hang itself, wouldn't switch on, screen went all pixelated & blurry (for no reason), I've been using my fiance's old Sony Ericsson K750i for the past month due to my U600 dying a hideous death on me (great wee phone). However, yesterday, I contacted Orange who I've got an 18 month contract with (not such a great idea in hindsight) & they sent me a brand new U600 this morning (well done Orange for dealing with it so swiftly), although I did chance my arm & ask if there was anyway I could get another model(!), not till Feb 09 (boo!), however, the sparkly new U600 has arrived & fingers crossed WONT have the screen cracking, 'hanging', switching itself off & major battery life issues as the previous one. On a positive note, it's a pretty looking phone, just a bit too much of a diva & waaaay too sensitive & 'precious'!

I have had this phone five months & today it went wrong. It seems like I am not the only person to have major problems with this phone. I may have to go BALLISTIC & launch it into outer space.

It froze up then kept going blank. Keeps saying the keypad is locked. Then the screen shows bits & pieces of other screens then it went all stripy. I can't use the keys at all because they don't work now. I unlock it then it crashed. Battery case is difficult to get off & SIM card is like pulling teeth.

The phone has never been damaged in any way. Did my phone get some sort of plague? Wish I never got this phone. It was fine before but now it's not. Samsung needs to recall this model. Homer Simpson made this phone.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! always read reviews first! doh!

So easy to use & text with & it has everything a phone needs. The battery life lasts me at least 4 days & I think the camera is better than the Sony Ericsson cyber shot k800i.

I love my Samsung.

This phone is quite simply a joke. When it works its good, however this is a very rare occurance. I have had my handset REPLACED FOUR TIMES due to software problems (crashes & resets phone on T9 text setting)& I have had it repared twice due to missing pixels on the screen & a 'loose wire' caused because of the sliding screen. Now the latest problem is the keypad doesn't work. Therefore I can't text or dial any numbers that arent saved in my phonebook. Only plus side is that it looks cool & no one else has it (probably because they have all been binned) DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!

I've had a number of Samsung phones over the years & pretty much bought them for the looks & how thin they can be. However after replacing my loved D900 (screen cracked) with a U600 my option of Samsung has gone downhill with a time to replace it with something else.

MY PERSONAL OPINION touch sensitive buttons touch sensitive buttons are a nice feature at first but the novelty wears thin after a while & have found they can be unresponsive & a pain. For example writing a text message & you accidently brush your finger over one of them & a full 2 pages of text disappear.

Predictive text what a load of rubbish, worst feature on this phone (in my opinion) it doesn't recognise simple words & the dropdown menu to select words changes from above to below (you'll see what I mean if you use it) OK, I got used to it, but still WHY? !

Battery life isn't the best but I've never had a problem when it comes to batteries, when I go to bed every night it's on charge WHAT the PROBLEM DOING THIS? !

Style, weight & design are the best feature of this phone, can't fault the U600 with this as I always look for this in a phone, thin & lightweight with good features it fits great in your pocket, can't stand theses big bulky brick phones (cough Nokia :P). Lacks build quality feels cheap & flimsy compared to other phones.

Camera OK, no flash just a dull light that you have to manually put on every time. Pictures are pretty good as long as you only use it in the day! You're having a laugh if you think you'll have decent night images, but do people look to have the best camera available when choosing a phone! It's a bonus I think! :P Overall the phone is good, but the fancy touch buttons & annoying text options let it down.

I have had this phone now in three colours I am so impressed with it. However my latest (the dark silver) seems to echo when people call me they can hear their own voices. This didn't occur with my previous two U600's (sapphire & pink). I have changed the handset twice & the fault occurs on each one.I think the software is different on the silver as the screensaver is slightly different. I have been using another phone for the last week whilst mine has been looked at to try & sort the problem but I have missed my U600 so much & can't wait to get it back.I am afraid that my callers are going to have to put up with the echo :) Well enough waffling, that is my only complaint really they are a beautiful classy looking phone, the best around in my opinion looks wise. The screen is clear & large & it has an excellent memory & I have had no problems with breakages. I think as someone else said screens don't just break! You obviously need to take reasonable care of you mobile. The camera & video are OK & good quality but slightly annoying delay on the camera, people get face ache from holding their smile LOL. Texting is good once you get used to the phone which is the same with any phone you get. However, the touch sensitive buttons can be annoying & take a bit of getting used to to avoid deleting texts & calling people accidently, but you can alter the sensitivity settings. All in all an excellent phone if you are prepared to get used to the touch sensitive buttons & after all, all phones like people; have their faults! ;)

I have had my phone now since February 2008. I haven't had one single problem with it. The only downside is the touch pad is extra sensitive that is until you get used to it!

People who have dropped a phone can't expect it to fully function like new. That's just wishful thinking. It's like dropping a human from the equivalent height & expecting not to get hurt. LOL

I did think the phone looked cheap at first, it's quite plain but I think it depends on what colour you get it in. I have it in purple & I love it! Someone did mention that the screen gets dirty, this is true, especially if your wearing foundation, blusher etc. It easily wipes clean with a dry cloth, jumper, jeans etc.

The memory for message & contacts is brilliant. I am not sure on the exact internal memory but I know you can store 1000 text & 1200 contacts.

The camera quality is excellent. The picture is fantastic to say it's only 3.2 & on a phone of all things! Downside to the camera is that it's rather slow but phones were made for calling & texting, a camera is an added bonus! Like I said previously, I don't know how many pictures the phone stores as I am not one for taking pictures on my phone. I receive more than I take.

I have used the MP3 player on this phone quite a few times, & find it good for a phone, then again it's an added bonus. Also loving the fact this phone has a radio too.

Now to the ringtones! I am so glad I read the reviews on here! I just found you can have an MP3 as your message tone. I've been using the extremely rubbish tones that come as standard. Thank you to whoever that was.

I have a Bluetooth adaptor for my laptop & my sister snapped it & ever since then, my new one hasn't worked so I love the fact this phone has a data cable with it. My GPRS, Bluetooth & data cable still works perfectly fine still too!

As I was reading through the reviews I was seeing a lot of people had said their screen has cracked? Not trying to be funny but, screens don't just crack. It's either because you've dropped it on the floor or something has dropped it.
I have had a Samsung for the past 3 years & never had a problem with the screens on any of the phones I have had & my screen on my U600 is still intact! Note for you all, don't drop your phone :-P

The menu is great as it starts when you left it before you close the phone. Only thing I would like to see different is maybe more colours other than black, Orange & white, Orange for the menus, but that is me been picky.

I can't think of much else to say. My only downside would be as previously mentioned, & the middle button going straight to the browser. Unfortunately that can't be changed but can be avoided if careful.

I noticed this phone has call waiting option, I am not too sure if this works as I am on Pay as you go at the moment. Have just put in for a contract so we will see when I go onto contract. Not a problem if it doesn't, although it would be good!

I wouldn't recommend this phone for anyone with large fingers as the buttons are quite close. Other than that, I love everything about the phone & have no complaints.
I must have been a lucky one to get a U600 from a decent batch as from the looks of things, a lot of people have had many problems with their phone. I won't be in a rush to upgrade my phone!

I paid £89.99 for my phone, well worth the money! Don't let the negative reviews put you off buying this phone. It's fantastic!

The best thing about this phone is the large clear screen. It beautiful & one of the best I have ever owned in terms of some of the features & looks. I like the fact the phone remember where you were last in the menus & goes there first & this is possibly one of the coolest functions on a phone yet. It sleek & non gender specific as my boyfriend originally brought this phone for himself but couldn't get on with the touch screens as he has sausage fingers & he couldn't use the buttons without wanting to take his jackhammer to it! If the touch sections on the phone were not there he would have loved this phone. Personally I don't see any benefit from them at all & would just have easily liked the phone more without them as they are a huge annoyance.

However, there are some bad points to this phone & some problems, My phone will turn on to silent when doing other functions but will go back to normal when I slide open & closed, this is possibly the strangest of all faults.

Very difficult to see the screen in the sun although it has a function for outside which is meant to help, it doesn't!

I have had some problems with sending text which fail & deleting text when writing them which can be frustrating at times.

The touch "pads" surround the main circular directional pad & so you end up accidentally touching them when trying to do something else. I have called, deleted, cancelled & went else where in the menus unintentionally even though I am getting used to it, it still happens far too much.

Camera is too slow.

Buttons have no "give" in them so can be hard going on the fingers & thumb (I sometimes use my thumb nail to use the buttons) if you text a lot also they are too close together so you end up pushing other buttons than the one intended.

Talk time is too low & would prefer a longer battery life.

I got this phone about 3 months ago when I was due an upgrade, it looked stylish & wasn't as clumpy as my previous Sony k800i phone. I WISH I had seen this website before I chose it as I wouldn't have made this mistake!

The U600 was fine when I first got it, apart from my text language being German every time I wanted to send a text, easy enough to sort by changing the language! Then a couple of days ago I noticed a crack under the screen, but no crack on the top. I hadn't dropped the phone, bashed it into anything, thrown it against the wall (although I am close to doing that now! ) & yet when I took it into the O2 shop that I bought it from they said that because I had caused the damage (which I hadn't) it wasn't covered under the warranty or my insurance. Great! I thought I was alone but looking on here it seems to be a common problem. Thanks a lot Samsung! I am about to go onto eBay & buy a new screen & attempt to fit it myself as O2 won't help & the crack is getting bigger every day! So, until my 18 month contract runs out (fun) I am stuck with a phone with a crack or a phone I need to fix myself.

Not only that. The camera is not as good as I expected, yes its 3.2MP but it takes an hour to take a picture! The buttons on the keypad aren't really buttons, there just a sheet of metal, & the predictive text never remembers words that you type in! I do like the touch sensitive pads though, but I had to turn the sensitivity down to stop me calling the first contact in my phone book!

Although I think the phone is a nice idea, I don't think Samsung really thought it through when they put it together, if they had would there be this number of complaints? !

Regarding recommendations, it can be a good phone but it's so fragile that it'll only get broken no matter how much you look after it, & if your looking for a phone with a decent camera this isn't it. If you're looking for a phone with a novelty feature however this could be for you, as the touch sensitive pads can be fun (when you get used to them! )

I do really like this phone but I have had a few problems with it. It has a memory card & that's great but it does not like you looking on it at pictures & stuff & keeps freezing. It also has an auto focus on the camera which although is very good it takes about 5 seconds to take a picture & you can't disable it. This is a problem if you are taking pictures of children, animals or anything that won't stay still. I have also had to have the microphone replaced because people I called couldn't hear me & my phone keeps resetting its self (turning off then on again) which isn't too bad until it does it in the middle of a call. Apart from that this phone is easy to use & has a great battery life & I would recommend it to others.

Gorgeous phone. Bought one from the Carphone Warehouse last week, but the vibrating when you press the touch sensitive buttons annoyed me & they'd given me the wrong charger, so took it back & ended up getting one on eBay half the price, & without the vibrating.

The camera is fantastic, especially the editing stuff. It does take a while for the picture to take, but mess around with the settings & you can speed it up a little. The texting takes some getting used to I think, but no major problems.

I recommend getting a holder for the phone or something to avoid the screen getting scratched when it's in your bag etc & just don't be too heavy handed with it.

All in all I am very happy with it at the moment :).

I just want to say that, whilst everyone is insulting this phone, I have had mine for about 8 months & have encountered not a single problem. I even got my friend the purple one for her birthday. Fair enough, sometimes half way through a text, if I hover my thumb over the wrong key I will lose what I've written, but the minor con's are nothing compared to its many pro's! I've dropped mine countless times, thrown it, spilt Lucazade on it & it's still working fine I am in the process of purchasing the purple one as mines scratched now! The screen is brilliant, music player is super easy to use, texting is a dream & there is just so many little cute bits about this phone that make it amazing! The only little niggle annoyance is that the music player doesn't add all types of format, only MP3's so for WMA's etc you have to manually play them, but is that really so hard to do?

This phone is terrible! Firstly, I'd had the phone about 3 days & I dropped it about 30 cm & it hit the table, I was amazed when I noticed the screen had broken. I had it repaired but not so long after the same thing had happened again! Obviously disappointing.

Next, it wouldn't charge & I had been told at the Carphone Warehouse that I had forced the charger in which I hadn't, the phone looks so fragile I had been careful.

Now, after these 3 repairs I still have problems. I've read that some have you had said the battery life was poor, I think lasting 6 HOURS IS PRETTY HARD TO BELIEVE! That annoys me so much, I charge it all night & it says it is fully charged in the morning, so I take it out the charger at 8 am, by 3 pm it has turned itself off, ridiculous.

The camera is actually pathetic, yeah good photos but like 20 seconds after you press the bloody button! & same problem when you click on a song.

Ohh & just to top it off, my Bluetooth doesn't work either.

Overall, a huge disappointment, I hate this phone, such a waste of money. Don't buy it!

Samsung u600, my 2 cents, I have many mixed feelings about this phone. I have had the U600 for about a year & I love it & hate it at the same time. Here are my gripes (& praises) in no particular order. Some of these are, in my view, serious bugs & design flaws. Others are just my own personal gripes. Like all phone reviews, please take it with a pinch of salt.

Crashes.

- In certain situations (I haven't yet worked out exactly), sending a text will result in a crash & reboot.

- Calls randomly drop after extended periods (30 minutes & up).

Media player bugs.

- Won't read id32 tags in MP3 files.

- If ID31 tag not included, the MP3 will not be listed or visible under the music player.

- Sort order of tracks incorrect. The media player uses the embedded ID3 track number field, but only uses the first digit. Hence tracks 10 to 19, 20 to 29 get listed before tracks 1to 9. Very annoying!

-Tracks with filenames over 64 characters not listed under music player.

Missed calls.

- If you get a missed call, & exit the popup. Then you get a text & exit that, the missed call popup comes up again! This can be quite confussing, fooling you into thinking you have a new missed call.

Other naggy issues or bad design,
- Keypad tones uncustomisable, & annoying. Either you suffer the loud, obtrusive keypad tones or turn them off.

NOTE keeping them on could actually represent a security risk also. Each number has a unique tone, hence if you key in your password with the keypad tones active, it is reasonably easy to guess what password is being input just by listening. (Probably this is just nit picking, but still bad design. Imagine if keypads at ATMs did this! )

- Touch sensitive buttons very easy to activate while you are using the phone (e.g. Texting), which often results in accidentally dialling numbers, despite the most careful use.

- Poor shortcut customization. The u600 has very limited customization abilities. Users can customize the 4 way arrow pad, & there are 5 slots for user shortcuts on the up-arrow, but that's it. The select button cannot be changed from launching the browser, which again can often result in accidentally launching the browser

- No ringer profiles, just on or off!

- Camera is OK, but slow to respond, & the user interface isn't clear or obvious.

- A little fragile. I am very careful with my phones, & keep them in a case most of the time. However, the one time I dropped this phone (on a tiled floor from a height of one metre), it broke. The GPRS stopped functioning, & also the ability to send & receive text messages, hardly what I would call solid construction.

All these bugs present in firmware version XXGI1 (Sept 2007).

Positives.

- Despite my many misgivings about this phone, there are some positives too. Here they are in no particular order

- Lovely user interface (despite poor customization). The icons are a work of art, & the speed or response of navigation is excellent.

-the touch sensitive buttons are also a pleasure to use (except when you call someone by mistake), & add to the general speed & responsiveness of the phone.

- Aesthetically a very pleasing device, with excellent screen quality & resolution.

- Ergonomically also very pleasing, feels solidly built.

- Call quality good.

So that is my brief low down on the U600. After a year with this phone, & having tried both Motorola's & Samsungs, I am going back to the tried & tested Nokia. Every user expects different things from their phone for me, I have only ever wanted a solid, well build phone that is fast, responsive & handles the basics well. I never was too bothered about MP3 players, Internet, cameras, & what tends to be lumped together as bells & whistles. But ultimately you have to decide if it works for you.

This is the very first Samsung I have owned, & so far so good, have owned the U600 now for 2 months & have had no problems. The one feature I don't like is the music player, the interface of which is very basic & the volume on the speaker for music is not the greatest.

One piece of advice I would offer is to be careful with the touch sensitive keys, although there have been complaints about accidental calling etc, you can reduce the sensitivity, which easily overcomes this.

Overall this is a very nice, sleek, user friendly phone with plenty of features & is great for those of which enjoy the latest technology, I used to own a K810i, & I would recommend this phone over that.

I have always had a Samsung Mobile but I have been so disappointed with the U600. I have had 3 handsets. All of which have had a different fault. 1 crashed every time I tried to text with it, another 1 couldn't hold the correct time & date & another one had problems with the screen. I have now had to ask my service provider to send me a different make of phone as I am so fed up with this phone. I wouldn't recommend anyone gets this phone.

I got this phone in February & I am now on my forth one. The first one just refused to send text messages & make calls, after ensuring the problem was not with my SIM card but actually with the phone it's self I took it back to the Carphone Warehouse where they sent it away for repairs, after 2 weeks the phone was returned supposedly fixed however the problem remained I took the phone back again & this time was offered a replacement which I was happy about, however this took 5 weeks to arrive & when I went to collect it from the store it just wouldn't turn on, I was then given a replacement for this one & took it home to charge after about four hours the screen went dead & that was it the end of another phone, I returned to the shop where I was given a new battery & then 4 days later the whole phone was dead again, completely RUBBISH.

I've had this phone now for over a year, & I must say what a wonderful phone it is. It's sleek & light & fits into your pocket perfectly. Yes the touch sensitive buttons take a little time to get used to but once you have then its fine really. It has great features including the alarm which you can customize, the camera & the pictures are great as well (however camera is slightly slow at taking pictures) but all in all I can't really complain.

If you're looking for a good looking phone with good features & won't feel like a brick then purchase this phone. I can't recommend it any more than this.

I bought this phone for my birthday last year July, I just had to send it back because it keeps freezing when my text message memory is full, resulting into me having to take out the battery to restart the phone. Also every so often it turns itself off. Does anyone know if the U600 can have the privacy list for the call log & everything, like the D900 & the G600 does?

Love this phone, however saying that, it took me a while to familiarise myself with the settings.

One thing do I dislike is that there doesn't seem to have the ability to add apostrophes in the text messages which is odd. All other keys are there bar that.

The instruction manual isn't great so stuff like connecting the phone to the PC to download music took longer for me to work out.

I've had no problems with the battery or the handset freezing (touch wood! ) ear piece.

Have had U600 for nearly a year now & reckon it's the best phone I've ever owned. Stylish, slim & lightweight with a big bright screen. Sure, the touch buttons take a bit of getting used to, but once you've knocked them by accident a few times, you soon get the hang of it.

Screen went black after about 6 months, replaced under warranty & no other problems since then.

Overall a great phone, highly recommended. But what do I replace it with?

I have had the phone for just over 6 months & I had to put a pin code on the phone to stop myself phoning anyone that I was texting because all you had to do was breath & you were calling whoever.

I also went through the stage when the phone turned itself off & I also find it freezes when sending a large text.

This last week I have lost the sound to my phone & as I am on an 18 month contract I have to put up with this or buy a replacement to do me until next March!

I would be interested to know if anyone else has lost their sound yet?

The display is so unstable, it freezes, display turns upside down or sometimes no display at all, display changes colour & freezes. Don't we have the right, we the consumers, to go against SAMSUNG against this rubbish product. I got my phone just last June 2007 & it's not even a year from now & it is horrible. Looks great. Got mine Christmas 2007. In January the screen cracked in the corner when the phone was on a dressing table. Most definitely not damaged by me. Phones 4 you sent it to their engineers who assessed it as having been damaged by me, they also wanted to repair the slide mechanism, which wasn't damaged! . I paid to get it back unrepaired & sent to Samsung. Their engineer also decided I must have damaged it. The screen is too large & stressed, causing some to break on their own, & Samsung will not accept there is a problem. Anyone else who has had the same issue please post details & I will taken the fight back to Samsung, the phone is not fit for purpose & should be recalled until they find a fix.

I upgraded to this model at the end of the last contract. It is a beautiful looking phone, elegant & convenient to store, but the touch sensitive buttons are a distinct nuisance at times. It is so easy to ring a person accidentally while browsing the phonebook. Delicate use of fingers do come with time & practice though & is easy to use one handed. The battery compartment is a little difficult to open until you know the trick. The battery lasts for a reasonable time before requiring charging, but as I use hands-free quite a lot it gets charged in the car most days. The instruction book is atrocious. One of the worst I have yet to see. This makes navigating the menus quite difficult at times. I have had no problems with texting, (freezing etc). & I am very happy with that side of the phone.

Would I have another one? Probably not unless they were a little more user friendly to people with little experience of modern technology.

I was told that it was my fault as I have dropped my phone for the screen not working & text messages causing the phone to crash (I have found this problem can be fixed through switching off predictive text) but I shouldn't have to do that.

I will be calling Samsung for a replacement handset as it has been repaired with 'no fault' reported & the problems still remain.

In terms of normal operating life it has to be charged nightly or else the battery will run out through small text message use in the middle of the day.

I purchased this phone on impulse when I was browsing through Carphone Warehouse. I was drawn to its design which is very sleek & it looks stylish. However, the touch sensitive keys mean that I am regularly phoning people I don't mean to & deleting messages by accident.

The number pad on my phone seems really stiff & it takes me quite a while to text. I don't know if this is the case for all of the phones or just mine?

As for getting the back of the phone off & getting the battery & sim out, it usually takes me ages.

& the battery life is terrible. My old Samsung phone had a really good battery life & I thought that may be the case for all Samsungs. But it's not, I end up charging it every couple of days.

The camera is good quality & the pictures always look clear, once they are taken. It takes about 5 seconds, after pressing the button to take the picture, for the picture to actually take, & the slightest of movement in the 5 seconds makes the picture blurred.

I am thinking of getting the Samsung F700, hoping that it's only the U600 that is a bit bad, because Samsung phones are generally good.

A stylish looking phone but a very frustrating one!

I've had it for about 6 months now & it is away getting fixed for the second time. After one month I had to get the LCD screen replaced as it was playing up (lines & flickering over it) Now it is in with the freezing problem which seems to happen while trying to text. I bought the phone SIM free so am hoping to get a call saying they can't repair it & I can get a replacement phone, otherwise I am just going to buy a different phone & take the hit, I can't stand it much longer.

The touch screen buttons are very annoying, I've called so many people by mistake & lost so many messages while texting. The annoying thing is it doesn't even save your message to drafts, just exits.

Seems to be a very annoying phone to operate with some serious software issues. Steer clear.

I have had the U600 for around 10 months now. & I am on my third one, the first two having been sent back!

The first one I had to return had the screen problem which a lot of other people seem to have experienced, it would flip backwards or give a negative image, or even just turn black so you couldn't see anything. So I sent it back.

The second phone I got wasn't quite as severe in its screen problems; it had some very pale blue blotches on the screen which I thought I could live with. But then it started crashing every time I wanted to write a text message which had more than one word. So I couldn't live with that, & back it went.

My third U600 has had no overt problems like the two above. Although it does have the pale blue blotches on the screen. & even when the phone functions as well as it can, it's still pretty bloody annoying. As has already been mentioned, it LOVES calling people when you aren't looking. It LOVES cancelling off whatever you are doing if you even breathe on the heat sensitive keys. Once it even managed to delete one of my friend's numbers out of my contacts when it was left roaming free in my pocket.

That isn't to say the phone is all bad. It has a nice user interface, the battery life isn't the worst I have had, & if you keep very VERY still you can get some nice photos out of the camera. But I wouldn't recommend it all the same.

I am eligible for an upgrade FINALLY & I have no idea what to go for next as most phones seem to have negative reviews on here! After almost a year of saying 'I cannot WAIT to get rid of this phone' it looks like I am going to be stuck with it longer than I need to be because I can't make a decision what to have next! Any advice gratefully received.

NOT to be recommended. Buy a Nokia or something that works is my suggestion.

I really do not recommend this phone at all. I have had it for about a month now.

My screen lit up yet it was blank & my ringtone for my texts started, it kept going longer than usual then it just turned itself off. I took the battery out & back in after realising the phone just wouldn't turn back on. I tried yet again to turn it on, it didn't.

I then left it on my desk & after several hours please wait came up on my screen. So I picked it up to see if anything else happened. It went blank again, then the screen came up with please wait this time several times down my phone. It then had the screen on as if it was going to start up, it then had colours on the bottom that looked like they had been smudged up.

It still would not turn on. I took the battery out & also my SIM card & left it overnight. I turned it on but it needed charging, so I left it on charge. Then last night the screen went blank again. It still won't turn on.

I have had many Samsungs, & I do prefer then to other makes.

I really like the look of it, & I am pleased with the applications on the phone. However the touch buttons are really annoying, I could slide my phone up & brush against a button & I would be calling someone. Also if I was writing a text, I could brush by one of the buttons & it would quit. I don't like the Internet shortcut or the OK button neither, I have previously had a Sony Ericsson which the menu is on the OK button. I think there should be a way of deactivating this as it is annoying. The earphones that come with it are not very good neither as they would not stay in my ears.

My last phone, I did break, & I can be clumsy, but from reading these reviews I know this is not (entirely) my fault.

Luckily I do have insurance on this phone & I do hope to get it swapped for another phone.

The password on your message is great, & so is the camera, apart from it takes ages to take a photo. Also if you store music on your memory card, it takes ages to play, but I got used to the camera & memory card.

I used to have a Sony Ericsson, & before that I had another Samsung, which I dropped in a cup of tea, but after leaving it in the airing cupboard, it worked like normal. & today I dropped my phone into a cup of tea, AGAIN! Put it into the airing cupboard, & works perfectly again.

A great phone, apart from the cracked screen which I can just about put up with :).

Battery life is dreadful (if you use your phone a lot, even just text a lot, you will have to recharge every day, very annoying).

Reliability is dreadful, unless you enjoy your phone performing a general reset EVERY time you try use T9 (more so, the phone will reset itself for a number of reasons).

Coverage doesn't seem good at picking up signal.

Really rubbish robustness & consistence. In other words, I suggest not buying this phone. It has numerous flaws which just make your life annoying. The only good thing is that it looks good & is thin.

This has to be the worst phone I have ever purchased! I have always used Samsung phones but after this one I will reconsider! When you slide the phone open say by accident you could be calling someone without realising it. I get calls from mates round 2am in morning wondering if all OK as I have just called them! (I keep mobile under my pillow) in case anyone wondering. I always revert to my d900 as it's a good reliable phone. Also the u600 after one week of use was completely scratched from been in my handbag! Useless.

I have this phone over a year now. I got it because it looks great & it seemed to have a lot of extra features to make it more interesting. The touch sensitive keys also added another dimension to it, I thought. WRONG. The only thing this phone has going for it is looks. If you never used it, & simply kept it as a fashion accessory, then you'd be happy, but once you get using it for a while you realise how frustrating it is. Here's the breakdown.

Pros.
- Looks great. Sliding feature is cool. Touch screen keys seem cool. Basically, it's a gorgeous looking phone.

- the full screen feature for videos is great & you can close the phone while you watch, & none of the buttons will interrupt it, which is about the only time the buttons don't frustrate you.

- You can customise just about anything, & there is some nice dynamic wallpaper.

- It has a call block list which is really useful, you can block any number you don't want texting or calling you, simply by adding it to the list.

- There's a handy torch, which is very bright, & can be activated by holding down the volume key for 2 seconds.

Cons.
- It's flimsy, & when it's fully open it can wobble a tiny bit. Starts to feel a bit cheaply made after a while. Like I said, it's great to look at, but once you get your hands on it.

- the touch sensitive keys are a nightmare. You would think they would be cool, but no. It's so easy to just brush one of the keys & you can lose whatever you were doing. This is one of the most noticeable flaws early on. When you're writing a text, the slightest touch of the hang up key can erase some or all of your text. It's also extremely easy to accidentally call someone, I can't stress enough how easy this is to do, & how annoying.

- the centre key activates the WAP browser & it's in the worst possible place! The OK key! You're always accidentally starting the browser when you really don't want it, & then you got to close the damn thing. Nightmare.

- the casing scratches very easily which means the phone starts to look much worn very soon. Also, the screen needs cleaning all the time because it gets smudged & dirty so easily.

- Some of the extra features are useless. Such as the stopwatch, which would work great except you got to keep it open to use it? Once you do something else, the stopwatch stops. Useless. The alarm is even worse. You can't have your phone on silent if you want an alarm. So if I want to sleep & set an alarm to wake up, I can't put my phone on silent or the alarm will be silent also! USELESS.

- the text messaging screen looks so pathetic, you would think Samsung could make it look a bit nicer, but it's far too basic looking, not the tiniest bit interesting. Also, the predictive text is awful, really. It is a nightmare to try & use it. It would seem that you can't save any new words to the dictionary, & if you can at all, it is way too much hassle to go through every menu to find what you want. Also, if your phone is turned off, when you turn it on again, the predictive text dictionary is in German by default & you got to change it every time! The texts in the inbox will tell you when you received them, but the ones in the sent box don't say when you sent them! You got to go to the call register & decipher that if you really want to know. & the annoying noise every time you send a text which you can't disable.

- the photo camera & video camera are not great. There are some features which would seem pretty useful, but it's far too slow & awkward to navigate through them all. It takes about 5 seconds to take a picture, which is far too long, & you got to stay perfectly still for that time or the picture won't come out properly.

- There are far too many menus. When you want to change something on this phone you have to search through everything to find it.

- the phone freezes at times & restarts itself. Usually if you try to play a video in full screen it will just restart the whole phone! You got to press play first to get the whole thing working, then after that, full screen is fine.

-By default when you answer a call the keyboard is automatically locked, which is entirely frustrating. It's because of the touch-sensitive buttons no doubt, Samsung thought they would lock the keypad while in a call so you don't accidentally hang up by the phone brushing against your cheek. In fact it would have been better that way. To hang up you got to slide the phone closed to end the call or unlock the phone then press the hang up key. Unless you disable the automatic keypad lock, the hang up key is basically useless & never gets used, it's only there to annoy you when you accidentally touch it while writing a text or something!

Phew. That was exhaustive, but really, this is what the U600 is like, & I have tried to be as detailed as possible. I've had this phone a long enough time now, & its shortcomings only become apparent through regular use. The phone looks nice, & that's all there is to it. I am got to get rid of this phone in 2 weeks & get a new one, preferably a Nokia this time. Don't get this phone unless you have the patience of a saint.

In less than 3 months after receiving this phone the screen cracked. I looked after the phone because I had just got it for Christmas & wanted it to last a long time. Also it kept freezing periodically especially on the MP3 player. My mum who also got the phone for Christmas had the same problem 2 weeks later. We firmly believe that this is a design fault as it is so fragile. We are awaiting a response from the Carphone Warehouse.

Had the phone a year & in the last couple months started to have major problems.

Pro's, the phone looks good & sleek, all the keys hidden when the slider is closed. The screen is nice & big.

Cons, hardly fits any songs on it (last phone Sony Ericsson I had lots of memory space). Scratches easily & as it's so smooth screen easily damaged.

Major problems, keeps freezing, crashing, having to turn it off & on to try to see anything, screen displays either a distorted image or black.

The touch screen is VERY annoying you will be in the middle of looking at pictures or texting & accidentally brush the touch screen & go back to main menu. This always happens when showing friend's pictures & they always say it looks hard to use.

Although it looks good, it's hard to use. Preferred the more robust Sony Ericsson phones, seem more user friendly, reliable & have better memory.

Love the look of this phone & the way it works when it does actually work. I've had this phone 6 months, can't change it because of the contract I am on.

It kept rebooting itself so took it to get sorted. Worked okay for a while, then after every 2 words in a message it froze rebooted itself & would keep doing the same.

Took it back again, got sent away for 15 days & came back okay. Screen randomly cracked one day for no reason at all, the top starts to scratch a way after a while. Recently the phone froze one day after getting a call, & nothing happened. Took the battery out to sort it out & now it won't even turn on! So yet again I've got to take it to get fixed.

DO NOT recommend THIS PHONE AT ALL! Stay as far away as possible from it!

Tried to stop my friends from getting this phone but they won't listen to me. They're going to regret it!

This is due to the phone freezing COMPLETELY! & that is only when I slide it open to make a call or text. The buttons light up but the screen is BLANK! I sent it back to Orange & they sent me out a new handset. Only problem is I got the NEW handset last Friday (28.3.08). You have guessed right. The NEW handset is doing the exact same.

The touch buttons were cool initially but got annoying after a while when I was in the middle of something & accidentally pushed the damn buttons. The FM works perfect all the times but the MP3 has some problems sometimes. It doesn't recognize so many formats & doesn't allow protected files, also a bad thing is that it doesn't play the last 3 seconds of an MP3 song. The worst Samsung I have ever had. As with SO many other people, I could be in the middle of an application & with no warning, the screen will go blank followed by the message please wait, then the phone then reboots itself & suffice to say whatever app you were in, is lost so you have to start over again. I am on my second handset from Vodafone & since last June & in that time, the phone has been with them for around 6 weeks for repairs (none of which have resulted in a phone that's up to the job). I am not too bothered about the camera functions but for the record, its rubbish, as are the touch sensitive buttons, as is the battery life, as is the usability of the dictionary in text mode. Etc. The list is endless. To sum up don't BUY ONE. Ill happily send you instructions on how to assemble a communications device using 2 bean tins & a length of string. It'll be far more reliable.

But as of today (marking today as having the phone for a week), the screen decided to die. For example if I don't use it for a while, it will just go black, & ill have to remove the battery & put it back in. Sometimes the screen just totally distorts throwing colour everywhere, or even a white screen with coloured lines down it. I really liked this phone. The design was fabulous, the internal memory was decent enough, it was slim & fitted into my pocket, & the camera quality was amazing. I really love all the features it has, like changing pictures to black & white & photo editor & stuff. I'd love to keep this phone.

BUT I then discovered.
- the camera is so slow it's unreal.
- the touch screen can get really annoying.
- the end call button doesn't even work does it?
- It's really fragile, my friend managed to crack the screen.
- the buttons can be tricky to work, I was alright though because I have got long nails.

My main area of concern though, is that it actually doesn't pick up signal ANYWHERE! I put it down to the network but it's not, because on my new phone it picks up signal. It took some texts a couple of days to come through, & as soon as you start texting a reply, you run out of signal. Battery life isn't great either.

I probably wouldn't advise anyone to get this phone, even though the design is awesome.

Had mine nearly a year & it's the first phone I have ever wanted to throw at a wall.

Some of my gripes are just me, the touch screen drives me mad, have ended up phoning people who text me & not by choice & it's as if the phone is just begging to connect to the Internet because I always seem to manage it unintentionally, I just don't like or get on with touch screen, hey that's just me, the phone in this respect does what it says on the tin, touch screen, if that's what you want that's what you get, it does work.

I have found the keyboard a nightmare for texting (maybe I have big fingers but have never had a problem with any other phone) the predictive text seems very limited & it next to never remembers a word you add to it. When texting the phone regularly freezes mid text & reboots itself, it can sometimes take hours to send a text of more than four characters as it repeatedly does it, & then it's fine for a couple of weeks, & then it won't text again, & then its fine for a few weeks & then. It is nothing short of infuriating when it happens & I have patience by the lorry load.

Battery life isn't bad but I only phone & text & not a lot of that so it is never really taxed. As I only text & call the phone has tons of features in my opinion, I never use them, for gadget freaks who feel the need for a phone that can hack into & fly the space shuttle against the crews will, or throw oil tankers several thousand miles across the other side of the world into a 360 degree turn just for fun & to terrorise the local sea life population, it may be lacking a little. You'll never see a bond villain starting nuclear war with a Samsung U600!

Phone actually feels quite solid & well put together for a phone so slim & light (my opinion thousands may disagree)

Camera?

Overall I think it isn't a bad phone, not for texters, maybe I have just been unlucky with its constant needy desire to reboot itself.

It got better for a few weeks & then started again. I've tried other SIM'S in the handset & they do it too so I know that's where the fault lies. T Mobile say they've never heard of this fault & I've not read about it on any other reviews.

Ignore all the negative comments about this phone. The photo editor is good. It has frozen on me a couple of times but soon recovers. The touch sensitive keys are good when you get used to them, it just takes time, it took me about 1 month to get used to it. The camera is quite slow at taking pictures but is quite good quality photos. I would recommend this phone as I have got on quite well with it. I would buy another model like it if there was one as it is very good when you get used to the touch screen. Hope I helped.

This phone is still one of the best looking around & has some nice features. If you stand still for long enough, the pictures turn out well & the memory is pretty good without having to add a memory sick. BUT, I have been through 4 phones now & will not be getting another U600. Also do not buy this phone if you like to put on silent at night. The alarm does not work unless the phone is on loud, very frustrating. This is also not detailed in the instructions. It could have been a great phone. Shame Samsung can't sort out its problems.

I first got this phone last April when it was first released. I would now be on my 3rd, but fortunately it was out of stock when my 2nd one broke so O2 replaced it with a G600.

It was my 4th Samsung phone & by far the worst. The user interface is very aesthetically pleased & I found it very easy to use. Unfortunately picture.

& as for apparently having a Bang & Olufsen amp in it, the handset comes with one set of very poor quality earphones that are NOT interchangeable, even at low volumes they distorted badly.

Nice phone & I've experienced all of the problems mentioned. However I believe it's a case of the touch control buttons being too sensitive, & it's a case of getting used to it.

The biggest problem for me by far is the battery life. I am not a heavy user at all, but the best I can get out of it is 36 hours on standby before it needs charging. I've tried charging when switched off, but it makes no difference.

I wouldn't have one again for this reason alone.

I had this phone as an upgrade from a Sony Ericsson W810i. The first handset I had was OK, a little slow but OK. Unfortunately old 2MP, & the so called flash didn't reach even a yard in distance oh & the MP3 player was so slow I gave up & bought a separate one. All in all, a total waste of time.

In the end I gave up with Orange & the Samsung u600, lost a load of money, but found the delightful Sony Ericsson K850i.

Stick with Sony & Nokia, far better.

Do not buy this phone if you use predictive text! Mine keeps crashing when trying to write messages, after Orange giving me 2 different excuses they've finally told me that the U600 has got a problem with predictive text, which is why it keeps crashing! They told me they can't send me a replacement as all U600's have this fault so all I can do is to manually enter the text instead of predictive. Oh & the battery is shocking! Lasts one day!

I read a lot of reviews before getting this phone but I think that every phones usability depends on the user. After six months with this phone I have found.

Bad points.
- Low battery life so has to be charged nearly every day depending on how much it has been used.
- Camera takes a while to take photos.
- GPRS & EDGE can sometimes randomly come on.

All in all a good phone & works for me because I prefer to have my phone on silent & the phone can be put down when it has been on loudspeaker by unlocking it & then pressing the touch sensitive button. Also I have not had any problems with the touch sensitive buttons or the text messaging & the touch sensitive can be turned off by pressing the button used to turn the phone off. All other points are not even worth mentioning.

I got this phone like a month ago because I thought it looked good & even though some of the reviews on here said it was bad, there were also some that said it was good. I want to warn everyone not to get this phone as it is a pile of rubbish. Seriously, listen to the bad reviews because they're all true! Anyway, at first, I loved this phone. I got used to the touch keys straight away & it was really easy to use. Recently though, it has started putting my settings all back to default when I turn it off, the camera doesn't work, & Bluetooth no longer works. It has also wiped all my photos. My friend has similar problems with hers, which keeps crashing & her camera has done the same as mine. Yes, it looks nice & there are people on here saying it's really good, but I really advise that you get the D900 instead as my sister has this & has had no problems with it whatsoever.

I totally agree with all of your comments regarding how useless this mobile is!

I fortunately have not incurred any of the freezing problems as of yet, but I have only had it 3 weeks.

The alarm is a nightmare. The mobile has to be on to use it. If your battery runs out then no alarm & if you have it on silent, you guessed it No Alarm!

Texting is slow & has a mind of its own.

End call button, this is useless.

Camera, yep you have to be as still as a daisy & it takes ages, so if you move too quick you get a distorted mess!

I am gutted, was a valentines present on pay as you go, so am in for long haul, hope it doesn't start crashing & frezzing etc.

- Blocks for no reason.

I am onto my second handset & heading for a third. This phone is the worst phone I have ever had. I have call drop outs, intermittent service (& it's not the provider because I have two phones on the same network) & not access to the web!

It does have a great screen, which is why I got it & that is its only saving grace. The touch buttons are too sensitive & the build quality seems very flimsy. I am getting used to it after six months of light use. I only make calls & texts with it now because it is so unreliable.

Lesson learnt from this phone, looks are definitely not important if the features don't work!

I am now on my 3rd handset of the U600 & it still continues to freeze whilst entering text. It has also begun to please itself when to allow me to make a call or receive one! Several times now I have been told of someone ringing my mobile but it never rang & when I have dialled up, it just sits with the icon going round & round & round & round until eventually I have to turn it off & restart. It won't even let you cancel the call.

I have been offered a different phone now with the G600 being one of my given options but after just reading its reviews, I don't think I will bother with Samsung at all. They obviously have a software issue which they are struggling to resolve. I would avoid the you & G600's for the time being as both phones appear to have very similar faults. I got this phone in April last year & personally it has got to be the worst phone I have ever had. It has been back twice to the manufacturer for the screen freezing, OK so it hasn't done that for a while now but the battery life is absolutely terrible. I only use my phone for texting (which I may add takes an age to send! ) & the occasional call but I can't seem to get it past 2 days before it just dies on me. I've tried charging it when switched off, I've tried charging it for 12 to 14 hours switched off (as advised by my local Orange store) but still no luck. Orange aren't really interested, I am stuck with the phone & can't be bothered to send it back again. (Think that's what they hope for! ) the slide part is not the greatest, very flimsy, the last one I sent back was far better, this one is extremely loose.

Take my advice, stay way clear of this phone, I was sucked in by the looks, that's all that is going for this phone!

I got this phone about 6 months ago & still have the original. Maybe the people who are having to get replacements had a bad batch because I have had very few problems with mine.

The only few negative things that I can say is that every now & again the keys freeze completely, but they have started to work within a few minutes after this happening.

Also, the touch screen can be very annoying as it often deletes texts in the middle of typing & sometimes calls the person.

I find that it takes a long time to send & receive texts & I frequently have to call someone to remind my phone that I have signal so that I can receive texts.

The camera takes a long time to take a picture & usually results in blurred photos as people do not like to wait for 30 seconds while the phone decides to do what it is told.

Another problem is that it takes a long time to hang up after a call.

On the positive side the phone is very lightweight, slim & chic!

I would recommend buying this phone even with its problems as there are very few phones that do not come with the odd problem!

There are a few minor problems. But you get used 2 it!
- the camera takes ages to take a picture.
- the MP3 player can take a few seconds time to play a song.
- Can ring people without you knowing.

This is a brilliant phone! I have had this phone for a couple weeks now & I have had none of the problems that these lot have been mentioning!

Positives, the phone is very stylish, the camera takes good quality high resolution images, the keypad has a nice feel to it, the firmware is great & unlike some of you no problems have been experienced, the screen is very high res & the colours show up beautifully, music plays nicely on it & the speaker both for phone calls & for music is good quality.

Negatives, the sliding mechanism is a bit flimsy, the touch screen buttons have annoyance potential if you have fat fingers, you cannot set the background to appear normally if it is off a memory card, the camera can take a while to snap a photo if the subject is moving or you're not holding the camera very still.

I have had this phone since last year & it is a really good phone to use & whether it's because I read the instructions first. I don't know. But I think that's what most people are going on about giving bad comments. The faults people are commenting are unlucky because this is the first I have heard about the message & backlight fault etc. I recommend this phone to all people if they are not EAGER & read the instructions first. Because in my point of view that's what people are NOT doing. & they get to eager when they receive their phone they just want to turn it on & they don't have no interest in the instruction booklet. Most people don't even know what they are even doing but they think they do. MANY THANKS.

This phone is shocking, phone keeps rebooting when I am writing texts, I have had it 3 months & it's been sent off for repair twice, & I am now waiting for a replacement. The buttons are super sensitive, so you many end up phoning people rather than texting them. There is annoying noise that it makes every time you send a text, & the only way to stop is by having entire phone on silent. To me it does not seem particularly logically designed, even calculator is not easy to use.

It is very slim, & this appears to be its only positive feature! Camera is OK, but nothing spectacular. I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

I had my first phone 9 years ago so I've had my fair share & this is the WORST phone I've ever had. I chose this phone as I had a Samsung flip up a few years ago & it was fabulous! This one is not & I cannot stress that enough!

On the positive, it looks really good & the camera is good (when you get someone to sit for long enough to take a photo)

On the negatives.

- When trying to send a text message, you'll be in the middle of texting when it either randomly goes back to the main screen or to the music player! Or just begins calling the person! If you're lucky it'll occasionally save in drafts, if you're not you'll find yourself retyping the entire message. At first I thought it was me, but now I am sure it's not!

- Also when you try to delete one letter, it sometimes deletes the entire text, very annoying when you've just typed a long one!

- It freezes mid text.

- It takes ages to actually send a text.

- It randomly turns itself off or the screen goes black (I am on my second handset for this problem).

- When taking a photo, there is a big time lapse between pressing the take button & it actually taking by which time your subject has moved!

- It doesn't save anything permanently, for example when setting an alarm. Each day it reverts to its manufacturers very annoying alarm tune. You cannot seem to add a permanent alarm tone, you have to change it every time you set the alarm. Also, if you want to snooze, this has to be set when you do the alarm, I.E. When you wake up in the morning, there is no snooze option, so when you go to bed at night, you have to try & work out if you think you'll want to snooze the following morning!

- But personally I find the most annoying thing the fact that sometimes it seems almost impossible to finish a call to someone! I rang someone today & there was no answer so I left a voicemail. Once I had finished my voicemail, it took 2 minutes & 50 seconds to hang up the call. Neither the flip down action or cut off button worked. This happens regularly when using the hands-free or the speaker phone.

- the most annoying thing is the fact that I've got this phone for 18 months as its part of an upgrade. There's no way I can use this phone for 18 months without throwing it across the room in frustration so I will definitely be reverting back to my old phone! Apologies for the rant!

Does anyone know if Samsung has mentioned anything about possible design faults with the phone?

After a while though you begin to find out this phone's faults. MP3 player is slow to respond to controls, takes forever to update once songs have been updated & the battery life is poor.

Also the most annoying thing is that the display has now decided to show in mirror image, upside down or just a plain white screen at random.

Lovely looking phone, but Samsung firmware loaded onto this phone is obviously utter rubbish. Have had FIVE of these handsets since June 2007. All but one have suffered the problem of freezing up during texting, & resetting, thus losing the text you were typing. Sent the first one to Samsung for them to fix, which they claimed they did, but when I got it back it was soon back to crashing.

Because I have had one which didn't crash, (which I typically lost), I will admit they are a nice phone to look at, & when not crashing, are like most Samsungs, & very nice to use.

The u600 is an ideal phone if you don't make or receive many calls or texts & just want something slim & stylish for emergency use that won't weigh your pockets down. Avoid it if you're a regular caller or texter.

I also find if the charger is left in, the keypad begins to get very hot. Sometimes it gets hot for no reason too.

Also the little flap for the charger & headset is so stupid, I snapped it off myself as I got so tired of worrying I was going to break it off.

Glad to say though I have not scratched the screen. Rather surprised at that. But it has currently decided to be water damaged after I wiped it with a slightly damn cloth to clean the screen.

Got this phone as an upgrade from my W810i in October.
Sent it away in Dec to be repaired, & again 2 weeks ago, same faults.

- Turning on & off randomly.
- Freezing whilst texting.
- Not receiving calls.
- Unable to answer calls when they come through.
- Personal settings e.g. Ringtones not saving, constantly changing.
- MP3 player takes a long time to respond to anything, e.g. Pausing a song.

I really liked it to begin with, the sound is excellent on calls, & it's a nice looking phone, but now I am wishing I'd never bought it.

On another note, those people writing reviews saying everyone else is talking rubbish, this is a great phone. You've luckily got one with no problems, other people haven't been so lucky. Let them share their opinion, it's highly annoying when you're trying to get your personal point, & people are saying its rubbish & that you've not to listen to them.

Everything bad you've read about this phone is true unfortunately high but I was prepared to be impressed.

The camera is bad, slow like you've all said & yes, it's impossible to photograph anything in motion. It's also incredibly sensitive to the slightest tremor when you take the picture. I use it mostly for photographing paintings for my work, however, so for me the biggest bugbear is the colour balance which is rubbish. Everything comes out too cold. I thought maybe this might be my handset but the replacement I've just been sent has the same fault.

It's depressing reading these reviews because I had thought that mine was a freak, the only phone where

- the END CALL touch button never works & you have to close the slide to finish a call.

- the screen goes doolally, disappears, goes upside down & back to front so you have to read texts in the mirror, etc.

The text messaging is the most frustrating thing I've ever encountered on a phone. It's like dealing with a really touchy person on a knife edge to take offence. The slightest thing & it's over with maybe the chance to save in drafts if you're lucky. The vocabulary is very limited, the punctuation options ditto, with no choice of certain characters in the pull down. I think that there is a proper symbol menu somewhere but I can't remember the magic key combination I used to find it.

A few people in the reviews are suggesting that my brute fingers are just too clumsy for the refinements of touch sensitive buttons. These seem to be becoming a standard gimmick on the new generation of phone across the board. Other than being the poor man's nod to the touch screen (I guess) I don't really see the point. Who the hell needs touch sensitive buttons anyway?

I am giving this one a so so mark for design (that's what drew me in when I saw it rotating on the online 3D demo) but the rest is a waste of time. Honestly I am so worked up about this.

I wish I'd seen this website before I agreed to get this phone on an 18 month contract.

The camera is slow at taking pictures, takes ages to auto focus & then actually take the shot.

The touch sensitive buttons don't always work when you press them, & sometimes there is a delay. So you are doing something else, & the button you pressed a few seconds before suddenly realises & then does what it's meant to.

When writing a text to someone, if you happen to lean you finger on a button it starts calling the person who sent you the text. It also has a very small dictionary, & when you add a word it doesn't remember it for the next time you want to type it, you have to spell & add it again.

& most annoying of all is the fact that the T9 doesn't work. It's a common problem with this phone, so Orange told me last week. After a few weeks of using the phone, the T9 stops working & whilst you are typing a message, the phone freezes, turns itself off & then back on again & the great thing, is that there is no way of correcting this. You just can't use predictive text, which is rubbish!

It looks very good, & is a slim phone, but it would be nice to have a phone which actually worked & didn't make you want to throw it out the window! Think very carefully about getting this phone, as there are much better ones out there.
