Have had the phone for just over a year. I really liked it, & it's very easy to use. It's a good size & has a good range of functions for a teen like me. However it had a tendency to freeze, & I would need to slide it up & down a couple of times before it would unfreeze. Right now, the buttons on the top half of the phone have stopped working, & I am getting a replacement in the form of a Samsung got B3410.
Internet on this phone doesn't work very well, & sometimes when you cancel a text it still goes through & sends. Functions very useful though.

When I first got this phone I thought it was really good because I was young & at the time it was fairly new. How could I have thought that? the phone can get easily damaged, the camera & video is terrible & the memory without a memory card is appalling! I would only recommend this phone to someone who isn't bothered about their phone's features & appearence.

I've had this phone for about 6 months now & now it's a back up phone because I've moved on to another Samsung, (& before this I also had a Samsung) I just love the style of Samsung's!
The design of this phone is good but not that modern or appealing to the eyes. It is small, shiny, fairly trendy & very strong & I love sliding it up & down which you can do so easily.
The features were not so good, the camera was rubbish & so was pretty much everything else, including the memory (you can insert a memory card but you're still limited to the amount of text you can have in your inbox, I think about 300) but if you're anything like me & you want a practical phone that you can easily text, call off & you don't really care about a million & one features you will never use then this is the phone for you! I previously had a Samsung U600 & this is much stronger & far easier to text off!
Finally, like most phones it takes a day or two to get used to it, but once you are used to it then it is scores very high on usability. Samsung really considered their customers when making this phone, yeah of course there are a few annoying features like when you've written the text & added the recipient the phone doesn't allow you to go back to the original text so you can't double check your text before you send it, but that's just a small issue, besides that it really is the best most practical phone I've ever had.
I have a Samsung Touch S5230 Tocco Lite now, it's great but I still adore my Samsung J700 because of its practicality, the battery is great on both my current phones unlike the Samsung U600.
I would recommend this phone if you want something practical that won't let you down!

I had got this phone about 9 months ago. My mum had bought it as a birthday present for me. When I opened it, I thought it was quit cool. It easily gets scratched, & the paint is wearing of. The battery life is rubbish & I really really really want a new phone! I feel like just binning it now! The video & camera are 100% rubbish! The memory is worse as it can only hold one song! Not many features & the Internet does not work! I feel like I have been ripped off now & I defiantly wouldn't recommend it to anyone! & the phone is very hard & annoying to text with! (& it's an ugly & scratched phone!)

Serious hardware problem in this phone. I bought this phone & within 1 year more than 5 times I have to go to service centre & service centre performance is worse in Dibrugarh Assam. So, think before buying.

This phone's battery life is brilliant, I've never had a phone with as good a battery as this before ever & sadly all the new phones' battery lives don't come close due to the 'Internet always on' features & they barely last a couple of days. I could go for a whole month without needing to charge & I used it a lot! It is a bit chunky though & texting can be annoyingly difficult at times. There's also a lack of features & the camera's rubbish.

Good phone for the 1st 2 weeks of use before it started with the old no signal but when I had signal & credit it said I had no credit I have no problems with the phone or O2 but I have problems with O2 & the phone put together I would get this phone but with Vodafone rather than t mobile or O2 thank you for reading my review don't make the same mistake as I did oops I regret buying this phone the value for money is terrible £45? Is this a complete joke? (knowing Samsung & O2 quite probably! ).

Well my mother who is 68 brought this from a shop in Christchurch Dorset they didn't set it up for her to receive or send pictures to the phone, it kept telling her to go to a website, how old school, but she has no computer, I have spent just over 1 hour setting this phone up, using a computer, so my mum can do this basic operation, so come on Samsung lets have this basic feature pre installed.

I am a younger user, I bought this phone almost 2 years ago & it hasn't failed me yet. It withstands drops & bumps when it's in my bag & it is a great basic phone. I only really use it for texting & the flat keypad makes it easy to text with. The memory is poor however memory cards can be bought cheaply from the Internet. The phone does however switch itself on sometimes as the button used to switch it on with is on the very front.
Overall though it is a great budget phone for first time phone owners or those who aren't really bothered about other functions such as a camera & Internet connection.

One of the worst phones I ever had. It was replaced 3 times in 7 months.
- Bluetooth messed up in all 3 phones.
- Battery life is horrendous (lasts about 1 day).
- Memory is rubbish without memory card.
- Camera quality is bad.
- Easily scratched & keeps freezing.
02 couldn't even tell me what the problem was with this phone.
I had this phone for around 7 months & it caused me nothing but grief. I can't wait to get a new one.

I really like this phone, I got it for Christmas! The only problem is I can't change the message tone. Lots of people have tried to explain what to do but they all say go on phone settings then phone profiles but I don't have a phone profile folder in my phone settings :LL does anyone know how to do it differently?
I personally think the camera is good but it could do with better zoom, It is also good that it has expandable memory!
It charges quite fast which is good & comes with radio & a MP3 player!
But, another problem is that it has special plugs instead of your common USB OR URL plug so you are screwed if you lose yours. It also has to have the earphones in on the radio, even though it has speakers? But a good thing about the radio is that you can record it like a podcast!
I like this phone! & will someone please help me figure out how to change the message tone thank you.

I've had this phone six months now. I originally wanted the LG KS360 but my mum convinced me to get this when I first got it I thought it was cool my slider phone had literally looked like a brick. But know I really want a new phone this phone is boring, really small, looks like a ugly hamster & now matter how much I try & decorate it & make it look nicer you can still see the ugliness. It's embarrassing when you're friends get out there LG KS360's & your just stood there with your Samsung J700 whenever I see others peoples phones it makes me embarrassed. I would only recommend it to people who don't care what their phone looks like & don't mind what stuff it has & only want it for ringing & texting. Also the Internet on it doesn't let you access much.

At first when I got this phone just over a year ago, I thought it was pretty cool but that was only at first. The only thing I wasn't happy with then was that I had to charge it for 16 hours before I could use it. Now I have realised that it's not as good a phone as I thought at first. The camera is rubbish only 1.3 pixels & the zoom is rubbish & the picture quality is poor. You have to scroll left & right to view it full screen, normal view doesn't show the whole photo. The video is just as bad. It's very poor & only you don't have unlimited video time. The voice recorder only lasts for an hour of recording you can do all together & the sound is very poor. When I turn it on it takes forever & sometimes freezes. When I get texts it sometimes freezes then & the only thing the phone will let me do is switch it off & this sometime happens at anytime whether I have received a text & when I do get texts at the bottom where it says when I received the text is faster that the clock on my phone. I got this phone because the phone I got before broke & then I got a new one but it didn't work & then I got this one & now I think I should have chosen a different phone all together. I don't recommend this phone to anyone. If you want a decent phone, don't buy it.

Good first time phone. Camera is bad, & without a memory card it does not hold many songs at all. Good looking phone, but scratches easily. Easy to use especially if it's your first phone. Sound on videos are not very clear. I would recommend for someone buying their first phone.

I got this phone on my last birthday & I really liked it! But after a while I just hated it! It's a boring phone for teenagers & I won't recommend any teenagers to get it! Maybe suitable for elders but not someone who is my age 12 to 16 yrs should never get this phone. I recently had 2000 songs on my phone on external memory & it just got WHIPED OUT & DELETED! I got very annoyed. The camera is rubbish you have to wait for 6 seconds till you get an actual picture! Video is rubbish. I got charged £2 because I was on the Internet & it was on Orange Internet when I am actually VIRGIN MOBILE NETWORK, I hate this phone so much! Want to get LG KS360 now looks much much better than this.

I got this phone for my Christmas last year & thought it was cool because I'd had a Motorola before it. After having it for nearly a year I've found it is terrible. The camera is awful & takes 15 seconds to take the picture & I always have to blink. The photos are bad quality, the memory is really bad & the actual shape of the phone is hideous. I can barely hear people on the phone. It's a wee bit good because when I dropped it it didn't break, but that's because it's like a brick. Thanks a lot Samsung, Bye.

In general I think this phone is pretty good because it is really easy to use & easy to get onto things.
If you are thinking of getting this phone I recommend getting a memory card because it only can take 3 songs on the phone.
The camera is 1.3 which is definitely not the best but you can still take quite pictures with it.
That's all the main things :D.

I had the Samsung J700 phone since my birthday & it's really good, it's got all the basics, camera is quite a good, you can see pictures pretty good.
MP3 player you can make 4 playlist with up to 30 songs its best if you get a memory card & put music on it because there isn't enough memory on there to keep all your favourite songs.
- Easy to text.
- Good video player.
- It's got a browser.
- Easy to use alarms.
- Good calendar.
- Calculator.
- Converter.
- Timer.
- Stopwatch.
It's a good price as well I personally recommend it but I am getting a new LG cookie for Christmas because I have to have a new phone because I will be keeping it for a few years.
I give the Samsung J700 10 out of 10.

I got this phone for Christmas last year. I have to say, I was hoping for an iPhone, but if I am completely honest I am so glad I got this instead.
I didn't even read the manual & I could already use it. It is quirky, fun & cute. I am a young user so I find it quite good for all my needs (texting & music!). I have to say I am kind of sad to see myself sell it. The phone is practical & stylish. Many times have I dropped it! Even on stone! It is good for roughing about & is quite tough. 1.3 mp for a camera is pretty good! I got many great photos off this phone & it was simple & easy to download them onto my computer. I never did manage to get a memory card for it but could still keep my photos & three songs on it. I found the Bluetooth friendly & easy to use & the calendar was really good for helping me remember important events. The battery life on this is amazing! Far better than any other phone I have ever had. The radio is also great & you can have it on whilst you do other stuff on the phone too, it is clear but the only thing is you have to wear the earphones. It is such a pretty, cute phone, I have to say it was one of the best if not the best I have ever had.

I have had Samsung clamshell phones previous & they were all unbreakable so I was wary of this slider as it looked flimsy. Happily it isn't flimsy & its bang up-to-date & has good volume to the ringer, can be heard above a car stereo. It has a place to fit a hand strap to, & although it doesn't come with a strap, I got one at a local market. Worthwhile because the phone is so slippery & thin, it could fall from your pocket unnoticed. It was also good value at under £50 & lasts a really long time once it's charged, 4 days easy.

The one day when someone rand me I slid up my phone & couldn't hear them though they could hear me. I then tried to see if I could hear them by not sliding it up & just pushing the button to answer & it worked, for about a week then it just stopped working. Maybe I just used it too much I don't know but overall I thought it was a good phone :).

Please can someone help me. I love this phone & I have had it more than a year but I have a little problem.
I set the MP3 song as my message tone & set it on once repeat but when I receive message the tone always repeats about 4 to 5 times before it stops. I tried even the AMR file instead of MP3 but still have the same problem.
When I use any of the 4 message tones that come with the phone & set it on once it does ring only once but when I use MP3 or AMR & set to repeat once, it repeats more times.
I do not know what to do? Is that the software problem or what? Thank You!

As you can see at the time of writing the jury is still out on this phone. I have had it for only a few days but one of the most important things for me aside from design is to have the songs from my football club as my message & ring tones. Okay some people might find this is sad but this is what I need. We Bluetooth the tunes which I had on my old phone to the Apple Mac & back to the new Samsung. Whilst they are definitely there in full on the phone, they are cutting out too soon on a text alert or an incoming call. We can find no explanation for this. Surely you can have more than one or two bars of a song for your message alerts? If I can't have the chorus & enough of my other song then I shan't be keeping this phone for long.

I got this phone for my birthday, it is cheap, easy to use & has a great camera,
1.3 megapixels is a good camera, I have it in pink.
It is good because.
- It fell of my bed & still worked perfect.
- It is good for money.
- & you can take the photos in many effects.
Bad because.
- You can't add writing to pictures.
- I can't think of anything else.
I am getting LG Cookie soon because this phone is getting a very scratched screen. I WILL MISS THIS PHONE! Best phone yet & I am keeping it even when I get LG! CHEERS SAMSUNG FOR the AWESOME PHONE x.

I've had this phone 4 just over a year now & I have dropped it (from quite high distances! ) a lot of times & it hasn't broken at all! It still works perfectly fine! So if you are someone who drops their phone a lot then don't worry, it will still work! The camera is not very good at all! The photos turn out blurry a lot of the time. There is hardly any memory on it so you would definitely need to get a memory card! (it holds 2GB) but when you have photos on the memory card you can't click on one & then scroll down & look at the next one. You have to click to view the 1st one then go back & click on the 2nd one etc! Very, very annoying! If (like me! ) you take lots of photos on it!
All in all I probably wouldn't recommend this phone! I am getting very fed up with it now & am looking forward to getting an LG Cookie at Xmas! :) hope that one is better!

I have had this phone for about a year. I think it looks good & is easy to use. I haven't had any problems with the battery, it just needs to be taken care of. However I don't like the fact it has a bad camera, no flash, doesn't take more memory than a 2GB card. It does what it is intended for but I got bored of it after 5 minutes. I would highly recommend this phone for first phones for kids, but if you want all the functions & stuff. I'd go for a Blackberry. I hope I have helped.

If you want a phone that you can manage easily, this is the one for you. It took me 25 minutes to work.
Some bad points are.
- Very, very bad camera. If you want an OK picture, then you have to be outside in the sunlight. Very poor quality.
- You can't play music during texting, playing games, looking through photos etc.
- Screen scratches easily.
If you want a stylish phone for texting & calling, this is the right phone. But if like me, you want a phone for playing music, games, taking pictures & making videos, I wouldn't recommend it!
Reviewer: Phillipa Miller - UK

- Camera. Very bad quality, it doesn't have a flash, the zoom is bad, & the quality is bad. When you take a photo, you have to scroll left & right to view it, because it doesn't all fit on the screen. Also when friends send you photos you can't view them, even when sent from other Samsung phones, because they are in the wrong format. You'd have to put them on the computer to view them. Videos are extremely bad, especially when you use the zoom. They're in the wrong format to view on most computers, so I have to upload them straight to YouTube to watch them. & on this subject, the voice recorder has rubbish sound quality.
- MP3 player. You have to add music to the 4 playlists which only hold 30 songs each. To add music you have to scroll down the albums on your memory card which takes ages because as they're not alphabetical, you can't search for a file. Also, when you're using the MP3 player, you can't see the time, your battery, signal strength, or use the phone for anything else. Basically, it's either a phone, OR an MP3 player, it doesn't function as both at once. The only other way to listen to music is by listening to each song separately, which is no use. You can't listen to music whilst the phone is on charge, because the headphones plug into the same jack as the charger.
- Texting. Personally, I am a fast texter. The phone however is not. I have to use predictive text because otherwise it doesn't register all the letters & my text looks like nonsense. When you add words to the dictionary, it forgets words you've previously added. Quite annoying. You can only store about 100 texts in your inbox & 100 in your sent box, before the memory is full. This is annoying if you text a lot, like me.
The back cover is really hard to take off. I've read reviews saying after the second time it was fine, but I really can't get mine off. I've had the phone for 14 months & have taken the back off about 3 times. Not even wearing rubber gloves helps to take the back off.
Also, after having the phone for such a long time, the buttons don't always work. The menu button doesn't always work which is annoying especially when sending texts, as it serves as the send button, so you have to keep pushing it, & then you end up sending it to the wrong person.
The centre button is not the menu button, it is the Internet button, which is really annoying because friends always push it by accident, & then you get charged for the Internet.
When sending a text, it doesn't automatically save it to the sent box. You have to choose save & send every time you send a text. This is hard especially when the buttons don't always work, but you get used to it.
The battery life is odd, the first bar lasts for a few days if you don't use it much, then once that's gone, the second & third bar don't last long at all. I have to charge my phone once the battery has two bars left in case it dies in an inconvenient place. This isn't good because you're meant to let it die completely before you charge it, or you shorten the battery life, but I have no choice.
The Internet is rubbish, I only have to pay 30p a day (on Virgin Mobile) to use it, but it's not even worth that.
I could go on, but I think you get the general gist by the amount of times I've used the words rubbish & annoying!

Had this phone for about 3 to 4 months now & I must say I am all but fed up with it!
Bad points.
- Camera is poor with 1.3 Pix (what else would you expect wit 1.3 though).
- the worst thing is signal coverage! According 2 O2 my network, I live in a high coverage area & have had no problems with signal in the past with O2 & Samsung phones.
- the speaker whilst on the phone isn't reliable.
- the theme looks dated.
- the playlists are stupidly too small, max 30 song.
- Applying ringtones isn't easy.
- Can only have a ringtone stored on your Internal memory (which I think is about 8MB which far too small! ).
- Have had problems it the LED screen too. Battery life is average need 2 charge it every day!
Good Points.
- the phone itself looks quality so you can get away by showing it off even though it's actually a poor phone.
- Has a number of apps to use.
All in all I wouldn't recommend this phone but reckon it could be pretty handy for a beginner or my mum LOL.

It very attractive, the camera is good, it includes lots of games, has Bluetooth, Internet access (which is quick) has a music player, FM radio & an image editor.

I thought this phone was OK when I first got it but now I don't think it is such good after all. The camera is very poor & the battery does not last long enough. It also has an annoying tendency to switch itself on inside my bag. I also think the text is bad. It scratches quite easily but is very very strong.

This phone is quite good except it wobbles a lot when you text. It is a very good phone & as strong as a brick, I have dropped it about 5 times & nothing has happened to it. I have only chipped it once by banging it on a sharp corner. When I first got it the back was very hard to get off, but after the first time it has been a breeze. I would recommend this phone!

No no no, don't do it. I would give the phone a much better review if you could TALK & LISTEN to people, you cannot hear what people are telling you, if you're in an emergency then you'll never see the ambulance you've just called because the operator will think it's a prank call. This phone should belong to Crusty the Clown, because it must be a joke, people in the middle ages could communicate better.

I got this phone in July 2008, This must be one of the worst phones that Samsung has ever created. The camera quality is bad, it is only 1.3 megapixel. The zoom mode, is not all that. The battery usage is also bad. It doesn't last for that long, I always need to charge it.
When I first bought it, the back cover was so hard to open. I think Samsung needs to improve on this thing.
If you're looking for a genuinely nice phone, I do not recommend this phone.

The Samsung J900 has not caused any big problems for me, although the memory is not very good you can all you need to do is buy a memory card (this phone only takes up to 2GB memory cards which is annoying but my friend has got over 500 songs & it still holds). The keypad is quick & easy to use & you can put a pin number on your messages & photo's which is handy. The camera is good quality compared to other phones & has games but you need to buy them.
I would recommend this phone to under 12's & the overall rating I would give would have to be 80%.

Had my J700 for 12 months never let me down found it user friendly. Camera average, sound quality average but a bit quiet. Sound is excellent played through Bluetooth headphones. Took me about 30 minutes to master it.
The only downfall for me is the music player, you have to make a playlist to play more than one song at a time & to do this is a bit fiddly.
Overall highly recommend it.

The Samsung J700 is a fantastic phone to use. It has got a glossy casing on it. Bluetooth, camera with self portrait mirror built in. The mobile has a slim design which is easy to handle. The menus are easy to go through as I didn't even need to use the manual. The battery life lasts for a long time which is fantastic! As the camera on the phone does not have a flash or torch, it is not good for taking pictures in the dark. It has got comfortable key Pad. Make sure you do pop it into a case it may get scratched or even get a crack.
Good luck to your phone hunting! It's a fantastic phone & I recommend it to anyone!

I bought this phone a few weeks ago & have mixed feelings about it. It works really well, the features are all I wanted on a phone.
- Keys. Easy to use & big enough for most thumbs.
- Music player. Works well & sounds good.
- Radio. Good reception (but need the headphones plugged in as an antenna.
- Camera. Not bad but sometimes blurry pictures when viewed full size on a PC screen. 1.3 MP should be the minimum you look for on a phone.
- Memory. Only supports 2 MB Micro SD card, but enough for most uses. Pictures & music can both be transferred to card memory easily.
- Bluetooth. Took a while to set up, but works well now.
- Internet. This is where I was let down by this phone. I've spent a lot of money contacting support numbers, only to find that the recommended settings didn't work either.
- Downloading Games & Apps. As with other phones, Java games & apps can be downloaded. The only way they will work is if you download them via the WAP Internet. If you load the.jar &.jad files with Bluetooth or USB, the files will not install. So, without Internet, no extras can be installed.
The design & features are really good, although, it can take a little time to get used to the features & settings (I recommend playing with all the options until you get it set up how you want it). If you're planning to download games & applications, you may want to choose something different from a Samsung.

The phone is good simple & cheap but after only having it for a short time it started to annoy me. When you put files from computer onto your phone you can only put it into the internal memory & not the memory card, this doesn't sound like much but when your downloading multiple songs its really annoying. Internal memory is bad. Camera is average but reasonably bad. It broke randomly. You can't play music whilst doing other things such as texting & you have to create a playlist of up to 30 if you want the songs to play one after another otherwise it's just one. It's a good phone I just found it annoying.

I have had this phone for nearly a year as have 2 other members of my household. I liked it initially but now hate them with a vengeance. I hate using it to text (my old Nokia was fine as was the Sony Ericsson). The newest of the 3 phones died for no apparent reason a few weeks ago, was taken to O2' shop who sent it for a software update. The oldest phoned has suddenly, for no apparent reason developed a fault with the Bluetooth. My phone acted very strangely last week giving me No Service when all 02 users around me had a fine signal. The newest phone has today developed the same issue yet the signal is fine. I would not recommend this phone. The camera is not bad, the battery life is fine, the sound is OK, but it has put me off Samsung completely, never again for me & my husband, the teen still likes hers despite the Bluetooth failing even though that's why she wanted this phone.

Screen often goes funny, buttons sometimes stick, even on day of purchase.
Also memory isn't big enough, take 4 pictures & it says memory full please delete items.
Does not save sent messages. All in all, for a teenager's first phone or for someone who uses it for emergency's only (like my dad) it is ideal.
Let us hope my new Tocco impresses me a bit more.

You can't fault this phone for its price. I've had the 8510i (too slow & radio reception poor), the Tocco Ultra (touch screen annoying to use) & the G600 (no MP3s as text alerts) & this is my favourite of them all & it's the cheapest.
The main features that I want are.
- The ability to record songs in MP3 (128 bit minimum) while listening to the built in FM radio.
- & to use MP3s as Text Message Alerts, can take the new Opera Mini & has Bluetooth.
This phone has all these features.
- I also love that you can search contacts via numbers as well as the alphabet. You can still send texts while the radio is on or the media player is on.
- Lock Messages or Gallery etc with a pin number. It's small but well built & can't imagine getting another phone for this price.
- Played back the MP3's via a SoundBlade Bluetooth Speaker System & it sounded great.
- Battery consumption is excellent. Camera is unimportant to me as I have a Lumix TZ7 for that.
I can't fault it for the price.

I bought this phone recently (Vodafone branded J700V). Cost me only £40 in a Vodafone retailer. I was told it was a comparatively new model from Samsung. Already finding it sleek, excellent value for money & very easy to use. I've been through all the menus & sub menus & it is very user friendly. It's quite small & very light, so useful for handbags (not me I am a guy! ), or jacket pockets etc. The phone is attractive, cool looking in black. It may not have all the bells & whistle of a £50 to £100 mobile but having said that, for everyday use I think it's extremely competitive for the price. If there was any criticism, the sound one gets when selecting each menu/sub menu could drive one round the bend, but one gets use to it. (I haven't found out if you can silence these yet.) I registered the phone with the Samsung Mobile website & I got 301 points & able to download a wide variety of MP3 ringtones, wallpapers etc for free. Lastly the phone comes with a CD containing Samsung Studio 3 an excellent suite of editors & phone management facilities very attractively & effectively presented. Buy it!

Have had this phone for well over 6 months now & have had no problems with it what so ever. It was a cheap phone to replace a constantly breaking old Sony Ericsson & has done extremely well compared to that one! I knew when I bought it that I would not get an amazing camera but then if I really wanted one I would have splashed out a bit more. You can't really complain about the camera when the advertising states that it hasn't got a million megapixels!
I have had no problems with the screen even though it is a slide phone which can be subject to breaking easily because of faulty connections.
I agree that the memory is not huge & I can only hold 2 to 3 songs on the internal memory, but then I have an iPod which holds hundreds! & it is quite simple to pop down to the local Curry's or whatever & buy a memory card which is easily inserted into the phone!
The menu & functions were easy to navigate & I could personalise the phone to how I wanted it in no time!
My only criticism would be that it does not save your sent messages, which really bugs me because I always forget what I have said to people! But that is my own personal problem!
So if you are looking for a mobile phone that does what a PHONE should do without any hassle, then this one is perfect!
Highly recommended & cheap as chips! Nearly.

I need not have been, it's a great phone. It does all I want & then some.
If I want to take photos of any quality I would use a camera! You wouldn't expect a camera to make phone calls would you? Or would you?
I am a pensioner & I am not a techno phobic but I was able to load music on to it without too much difficulty, so how younger people cannot manage to do it is beyond me. It is by far the best mobile phone I have had & don't forget that when I first had one all mobiles could do was make calls.

I just got this phone today, as my current phone had broken & only had about 60 pound to get a new phone. The Samsung J700 is a nice phone, you can't really complain for 40 pound.
OK the camera may not be that good but I have a digital camera, & as for memory buy a micro SD & if you also get the Micro SD adapter you can switch between your camera & your phone.
& what's with all the complaints about the back cover, really? How many times do you need to take it on & off!
Love this phone even though I couldn't get it in Pink!

I really like the Samsung J700, & I have had it for about a year now. It is definitely a phone that it takes a couple of weeks to get the hang of, & to customise it exactly the way you want it. Once these teething problems had been overcome, I really liked the phone, as it is cheap & pretty easy to use. Given, it isn't great for multimedia but then I didn't really buy the phone for that. If I wanted it as a music player & something to watch video on then there are plenty of better options.
Recently though, I have found major problems.
- It loses signal randomly, even though it says you have signal, it won't connect to a network. Turning the phone off then back on again solves this (so annoying).
- the green call button, the cancel button & the top right selection button all stopped working. Meaning that texting is now a nightmare as I can't go back on any mistakes, & most importantly, I can't call anyone as the green call button is broken!
Not happy & will be getting a new phone very soon I hope!

Bought this phone & another one for my two sons this week. The younger one wanted this for the stylish slide up feature. But I found the entry level quality way below what I expected for a phone. The camera isn't good but it is in the Multimedia features I found this to be seriously wanting. Setting ringtones not easy. Adding themes you might like none existent. Screen resolution rubbish. Adding & customising the wallpaper a chore & when I Bluetoothed him two JPEG images that my phone supports this phone would not display. On the other hand bought my other son a Nokia 5310 for a few pounds more & his phone simple easy & excellent with what you can do with it. The Nokia displayed the images I'd sent the Samsung no problem! The Nokia had & does everything I would want for me from a phone. Regard this Samsung, really quite rubbish in how it works & what one can do with it. Found its menus & ability to travel about difficult too. Avoid this phone as I regret my youngest got this one. It also has a design weakness where one can turn on the web access way too easy & by accident. I saw his credit get eaten very quickly until we figured how to turn it off. I would have paid the extra & got him a far better phone with great music abilities & better camera like the Nokia. It outclasses this dire phone at every turn. Granted it looks nice & why he wanted it & why I won't be saying anything of this to him. So on looks it's fine but on all else it has little else to recommend it to anyone.

I brought this phone in December & I REALLY loved it, the music player was amazing & I thought that the design was very stylish, until recently, when I walked into a railing (by accident) & the mobile was in my pocket. The next time I looked at it, the screen was a bit weird from the inside & apparently it costs £25 to get a new one. But apart from that, the phone itself is lovely ;].

Bad things about it though.
- You can only have a few message tones.
- the camera is only okay.
- Sometimes you have no signal.
- the Internet button in the middle is annoying if you press it.
The design is very good.
- I have had this phone for 3 months & have had no real problems with this phone!

This phone is a best buy in all categories. Here are some good & bad points.
GOOD POINTS.
- This phone has brilliant features with a music player that works.
- A Good (but not brilliant) camera with 11 times zoom!
- the phonebook is easy to read.
- the 'My Files' section is well thought out.
- the phone has an excellent signal finder as I live in a multi network black spot. This proved that all is not lost for me.
- the last good point, the phone has lots of quirky noises which I love but you might not, but you can turn them off.
BAD POINTS.
- the Vodafone LIVE (Mary vary from network) button is where you hold the phone costing 99p if you press it.
- the phone is a bit wobbly when slid up (maybe because I love sliding it up & down.)
The design is well thought out & the keypad is superb!
This phone is five stars!

I just got this phone & the audio quality is not good, I mean muffled. Compare this to a cheap Chinese phone I bought in Thailand, & the Chinese phone has much clearer voice quality. I'll give it a couple more days & if it does not improve it's going back for a replacement. I suspect it's faulty because no one else has complained here.

To Teju, the pin is merely a connection code between you & your friends phone. Make up a connection e.g. 0000 then when it asks your friend for the pin tell him to write 0000
after that there will be no need to enter a pin as he will be saved in you Bluetooth connection list :)!
Personally I love this phone, for all the others who leave comments saying how bad this phone is then why are you even reviewing it? I get your point about some of its problems but its $60 or £40 so it's never going to be perfect!

I have had this phone for 5 months. I agree with users who find the back hard to get off, I stick a piece of fabric sticking plaster on it. This completely solves the problem. My major complaint is that reception is very poor in some areas of my house, notably a single storey extension which is where I spend a lot of time. I have an O2 contract & O2 tell me that their coverage of the area is good. I am now asking visitors with mobiles to check what their reception is like. So far indications are that it is my phone that is the problem.

Decent phone for price. Does everything you want a phone to do. Has got camera, MP3, etc. Looks good too. Yes a bigger phone memory would be better but at least it's got a memory card slot. Vibrate would be nice to go with a ringtone, or have I just not figured that out yet? LOL.
I can't understand why people are complaining about the back being hard to get off. Isn't that a good thing? You'd complain even more if it came off too easily! Unless you have 2 SIM cards & change constantly, why would you want to take the back on & off? & if you have got 2 SIM cards, do the simple thing & get 2 phones.
There are much better phones on the market, which do everything this phone does just better, but you can't really complain for 40 quid! I did have a Tocco, but sold it due to having a baby & didn't want it to get chewed & break. This phone is great value for money!

I've had loads of phones & researched all to the max before parting with my cash.
I bought this for my daughter & to be honest, I am really puzzled by the negative comments, because for a run of the mill camera, slider, MP3 phone, the J700 is excellent.
Mechanically it functions very well & has a good positive feel to the slider. Screen resolution is very good & has quick response for a slider. All menus are intuitive & the phone has been mastered fairly quickly. Call quality has been very good & general operation has been faultless. As a lifelong Nokia user, I am actually tempted by getting another J700 as my second phone.
There's only one criticism, which is the fairly naff cover for the charging socket. That said, most manufacturers are going the same way with covering charge & data connections, so careful handling should prove OK.
Finally, remember, the J700 is another mobile phone that happens to have an integral camera & MP3 player, if you need to be David Bailey or Pete Tong, buy the proper kit & don't be disappointed by any phones ability to multi task.

Design. It looks, amazing! with soft keys on the top & a gigantic screen. The only problem is the keypad, it's a bit small & sometimes you press 2 buttons at the same time. 100%.
Features. There are loads of features on this phone! It has Bluetooth, an MP3, a 1.3 megapixel camera & loads more! 100%.
Usability. It's pretty simple, but sometimes confusing, there isn't an entertainment section which has the MP3, games & stuff. But apart from that it's all fairly simple apart from changing your ringtone, that's the complicated part, I had to go on the web to find out how 2 do it. 90%.

My ultra reliable & easily customisable Nokia 5200 died, so had to get my hands on a cheap phone, & they don't come much cheaper than the rubbish J700! Sure, the phone looks nice, but Samsung seem to think that customers will have more fun with a phone that is more difficult to use than is necessary (I.e. EVERY Nokia phone I had has been exceptionally easy to use, configure, customize & sync with a PC).
For instance, the onboard memory on the J700 is a paltry 10MB. & the biggest bugbear is that you CANNOT use a memory card as extra space for text messages, once you hit 200 you have to start deleting them. That is ridiculous!
Mine's going on eBay this afternoon as I've got another Nokia winging its way to me, can't wait!
I got stung by Samsung a few months ago with their cruddy Tocco. Samsung are falling by the wayside & will lose a ton of custom if they continue to make user unfriendly phones. You have been warned.

The graphics are rubbish on template messages, I would probably never send one as they are embarrassingly babyish! Also, the writing on the main screen is all blurry, maybe I've just been spoiled with the features on my old Sony Ericsson ;-). There are hardly any ringtones to choose from, & certainly none which I would keep on the phone longer than it took me to download one of my own!
Trying to get the back off the phone to insert SIM etc is the hardest thing out, 4 people at work couldn't open mine & I eventually had to prise off with a paperclip & some well timed pushing!
Do not buy, even at the cheap price, that is exactly what you are getting, a cheap phone.

The phone is awkward to hold, especially when trying to use the keypad. The flip out mechanism is not very stable once opened, & feels like it is going to snap shut sometimes. People with smaller hands will not find this easy to use.
The keys are difficult to locate by touch alone (there are no physical markers to tell you where you are), which makes keying anything slower than normal. Scrolling lists continues even after you have stopped pressing the key, which is annoying. Getting to the symbols menu is cumbersome, & requires far too many keystrokes. The symbols menu is not always available in the same place, again, frustrating.
The menu system is not intuitive & the colour scheme & icon animations look very amateurish.
By far the biggest gripe with this phone is the browser. There is a bug in the image tag, where the browser refuses to request any URL containing slash.
The other major flaw with the browser is that it does not support HTTPS (secure HTTP), which is standard even on the cheapest Nokia.
This handset was bought for the UK T Mobile network, & about 25% of the time, an HTTP Error 504 (Gateway Timeout) prevented the requested page from loading. It's not clear if this is the network, or the phone.
Compared to a Nokia (any Nokia, & I've owned 5 different models), this phone is way, way behind.

For everybody complaining I think you should read this, it might help to clear some problems up.
Just a note to clarify things. I recently got a j700 as a present. I am using a MP3 file as my message tone. I repeat, YOU CAN USE AN MP3 FILE AS A MESSAGE TONE. It just has to be on the phone in the music folder. (My files, music, music) Here is a step by step procedure.
- Put the MP3 file on the phone using the software provided.
- Go to menu, my files, music, music & check that it is there.
- Go back to the main screen then go to menu, settings, phone settings, phone profile, go to the profile you use, options, edit, press the right arrow button to go to messages, then the down button.
- Press the middle button, then look for your song by pressing left & right arrows. Once you see it (it should be in a folder called Music) use the up & down arrows to select it. Press the middle button.
- Your Message alert tone should be whatever you selected.
- Press options, save profile. I hope that clears things up about the MP3 message tones.
In reply to Glenn Rosental, You have to make sure that the SD memory card is under 2GB that is the maximum the phone can take. Note, to make the quality of the pictures & especially the camcorder better, when in camera mode, press the left circular button & a menu should pop up. Scroll to the right & turn the resolution up to full. The battery in mine is fine. I haven't had it for long but it hasn't dropped one bar.
In reply to Bobby from London, UK, if you press the red hang up button, the music does stop. You can, however, close the slider & it will still play. You can turn the volume up much louder by using the buttons on the side. Note, I find the slider very easy to use & I can use it in one hand.
Reply to Rachel from London, UK Dated 14th June 2008 Yes you can use the voice recorder to record your own tunes to be used in calls or message tones. Also, you asked, when you get text or call, do you get caller id on screen, picture of contact? Yes, if the contact is in your address book, you can apply a picture of them to be displayed when they ring. You can also apply a distinctive ringtone. Their number will come up regardless of if they are in your address book or not as long as they don't have private mode on. In answer to your question, how do you listen your MP3 player, speakers or headset? Either. The radio you need headphones for though, as these act as the Ariel. (Samsung headphones only) How many songs can you store on here? the onboard memory is 10MB but you can get up to 2GB with a micro SD card. & last but not least, you can choose to have ring, ring & vibrate, increasing volume, vibrate only, increase & vibrate etc.
Sorry about the long post but I hope this helps out anyone with or without the phone.

This is a reply to Ellie from UK.
There are loads of sites that you can use to download music. It depends if you want to have the whole tune, & if you don't mind paying 80p for it. If you want to have the whole tune & don't mind paying around 80p then I would recommend Woolworths Downloads or Tesco Digital. But if you just type into Google, Free Music Downloads there will be loads of legal sites to use.
Hope I was help tp you. Emily.

I just bought this because my old phone broke & I needed a new phone fast. I was going to buy the E250 but when I saw it in the shop realised that J700 is much better looking & only a fiver more. Got it in pink on Orange but it's not locked so I can switch to my old O2 sim as well. Really nice, lovely design, can listen to all my music without worrying about taking my iPod everywhere & great because I have lots of micro SD chips lying around (my old phone used them too) really great, under £40!

Great Phone, so long as you can get it cheap. The main bugbear is that the added micro SD card memory isn't directly accessible by the camera or ringtones. You can set Bluetooth transfers to go to the card & a couple of other data types to go straight to card, but the camera pictures & video go directly to the onboard memory (all 10 megs of it! ) When this gets full you have to do some data housekeeping & shunt them off to the card or delete to free room. The MP3 ringtone setting is equally annoying. The ringtones have to be on the 10 megabytes internal memory too, if you set an MP3 as a ringtone from the card, the phone will copy the MP3 to its own memory before use. Mmmm, interesting design decision Samsung.
That said, I got this for my daughter & she loves it. Good sound quality, volume, & lots of storage as a MP3 player (with the card of course). As I previously said, a good phone provided you get it at a reduced price.

Bought this phone today to replace my battered D900 & I am VERY pleased with it. I read a lot of reviews about it beforehand & a lot of them said that it was a nightmare trying to get the back off (this nearly put me off buying). Have I missed something? the back on my phone slides off just fine.
As for other comments like the screen resolution not being perfect & the camera not being the best. Well what do you expect for under £50? (Personally I can't find anything wrong with these things). For the price it is an excellent phone & has more features than my old one that cost double.
If you want an affordable, good looking & user friendly phone then get this!

Nice looking phone & I like the display on screen, but not very easy to use. Predictive text for example, it doesn't give you any alternatives, so if the first word it comes up with isn't the right one, you have to end up going into ABC mode to say what you want to say. Too many screens to go through to do even the simplest job. The centre button, which is normally the one you can use for most things, from idle, pressing centre button, it then dials into WAP, very confusing. Plus I added about 20 phone numbers, downloaded 2 songs & a picture & it told me there wasn't enough memory, so now I have to buy a memory card. If when you are going through the phonebook to find the number you want, you can't just click on it, you have to put a tick in the box beside it by pressing the centre button, I think it is seriously going to pee me off if I keep it much longer. My previous one was a Sony Ericsson & very good for ease of use, but as I am on a certain bundle from Virgin, not sure if they would supply that one or not, but may keep trying, as this phone is lovely but very annoying.

The memory is terrible & only holds 3 or 4 tunes & my contacts thats it, no room for photos or any more tunes unless I buy a memory card. The lettering is bold & a bit fuzzy not clear like the E900. However if your looking for something with no touch screen & your not bothered about quality of images than go for it.

No problems with this phone. Very good sound through the headphones, on radio & MP3 player.
Good photos on transfer to PC, even in low lighting conditions & excellent array of picture editing facilities if you like that sort of thing. Has a classy feel & nice bright display, making texts very easy to read. Have not noticed poor signal issues.
Have not tried to take the back off yet, can't think of a good reason why I would need to. If there were to be a SIM card or battery problem I would take it back to the Dealer to take the back off.
Only gripe is the poor audible warning of a text. For some reason Carphone Warehouse does not sell it with the headphones, yet it provides similar headphones for a cheaper model strange! Particularly as the O2 shop next door offer the same box, with headphones included for the same price! So worth checking that the headphones & the PC connection leads are included as I suspect they are not cheap as I gather they are custom made by Samsung.

I like the way you can select an MP3 for your text message tone (couldn't do that on the E900) it is very customizable, very easy to use & looks far more expensive than it actually was.

Got this phone last week was changing from a Samsung E900 which was a brilliant little phone for memory but I kept getting frustrated because its a touch screen phone & I always ended up wiping the screen whilst texting by sweeping across the clear button. Liked the look of the J700 & price so bought it. That was a mistake, memory holds 3 songs maximum, can't hear message tone so constantly missing texts, was sticking as I slide it up then 2 days later completely broke! Just won't start up. Going back to the O2 store today as its not even 7 days old. Can imagine the bad time I am going to have with these as in the past they've sent the phone away for two weeks to be repaired, but as this obviously was a faulty phone when purchased I am not settling for repair. Samsung usually have good phones, but let themselves down with this one.

Mum got this phone the other day for herself, after a malfunction in her other Samsung phone. She didn't like the tinny ringtones or annoying message alerts, so bought a Motorola. I took the Samsung J700 instead of my Sony Ericsson & it seems fine!
The design is very sleek & elegant, making it seem more expensive than it actually is, & its small enough to slip in a purse or pocket no bother! It has a VERY annoying keypad noise, but once I figured out how to change this it was fine!
The one feature I don't like is that the screen is very sensitive. I poked the phone by mistake & the screen started to do the rainbow colour stain, similar to when you press the screen of a calculator too hard! I have a feeling this might lead to it breaking but for now it's OK!
Altogether a nice little buy which I'll probably last me a few months!

Questions.
- Would you please tell me how can I set clock as screen saver on this mobile?
- How to set profile name on the display all the time? In any Nokia mobile, it is very easy to set. I am not sure this feature is available in Samsung.
Positives.

- Display is nice.
Negatives.
- Very very difficult to open battery cover, the worst mobile I have seen.
- Settings are not user friendly like Nokia mobile.

I have always bought Samsung phones, purchased j700 two weeks ago & it is the worse buy ever.
The back had to be removed by sticking a pointed object in to the runners. Even the Samsung web sites say that to open the back takes patience & to use rubber gloves.
Memory is so small you've got to invest in a memory card.
Only one very quiet tone for all messages & you can't change the tone.
The button in the middle of the phone is not flush & gets caught on everything, i.e. pockets, fingernails etc.
If I had my packaging this phone would've been returned.

My Mum got this phone & asked me to configure it for her. You cannot change the message tone except for the few that came with the handset, to change your ringtone & message tone go to phonebook, profiles, go to options while selecting Normal & you change them there (sorry don't have it front of me), pretty complicated.
I have a Sony W810 & I would never get anything else other than Sony.

For the person who asked about ringtones if you have a USB cable for it there's a pretty good website to download them to your PC & put them on your phone, although WAV files don't work.
For the person asking about delivery reports if your on O2 don't support delivery reports I went into the O2 store but they told me to be able to get a delivery report you have to key in STAR ZERO HASH then a space then your text message & you will get a delivery report for that text it's pretty annoying having to key it in every time but set it up as a text template & paste it on messages you wish to get a delivery report on.

The thing that annoys me is the erase button is where the back button is on most other phones. Therefore you automatically press it to go back one space when writing a text & instead you exit texts! If you do remember though to press the right backspace button you only have to hold your finger on it a second to long at it clears all the text you have written! It is something you get used to though I am sure. I love the phone other than that & think it is a great looking phone for a good price. I bought this phone on pay as you go to replace an old Samsung mobile phone which gave me no problems over the 2 years I had it, & I thoroughly regret it.
The phone looks good, however it has some major faults.
- the back is impossible to remove, without exerting extreme pressure on the screen, which.
- After less than 2 weeks of buying the phone the internal screen broke (not covered by Samsung warranty) this happened during normal phone usage whilst I was out shopping.
- Avoid texters should avoid the phone, as you have to type slowly to allow the phone to catch up!
Overall I DO NOT ADVICE anyone TO PURCHASE THIS PHONE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE disappointed!

While this phone is at first glance rather nice to look at it has some major failings.
- Due to the way the phone is weighted when the slide is open it is next to impossible to text with one hand.
- the aerial or antenna on this phone simply doesn't exist. Seriously if you have this phone it is like you are living in a nuclear bunker because you rarely if ever get a signal. & on the rare occasion that you do actually get a signal, aside from the fact that the phone will go crazy from receiving the massive backlog of texts that it was unable to receive, in the event that you try making a call rest assured that it won't be for long because no sooner has the call connected then the phone will lose the signal once more & you will left with a rather tasteful looking paperweight in your hand.
Seriously avoid this phone at all costs. I cannot underestimate how BAD this phone is.

I got my Samsung J700 a few months ago, I have problems with it already the phone turns off itself for no reason, network gets rejected & really horrible loud static noises at night time, I bought the same phone for my girlfriend & she has exactly the same problems, I strongly suggest you don't buy this phone.

Not worth buying. Back cover is very hard to get off. I ended up cutting it off with a knife. Also after only 2 months it doesn't work. When I turn it on, it immediately turns itself off.
I recommend buying either Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones, which I have found faultless & long lasting quality.

I got this cool little phone for my birthday a few months ago, I think it's a nice little phone, easy to use & comes with great features. I think the phone has quite a good camera & the pictures come out very clear. Although the only downside I found in it was the fact it has not got a very large memory, so I had to buy a little card to expand the memory. But other than that I think it's a trendy compact phone & I hope I have helped. Thanks for reading, Stephanie George.

I love this phone! Jon in Canada, you need to have the phone open to text, obviously because that's where the keyboard is, but you don't need it open to answer phone calls or listen to music. You can answer calls just by using the outside buttons. Hope that helps!

I bought this very stylish phone at a very low price three days ago as I needed a cheap phone to replace my lost contract D900i. I have managed to set certain features up with a fare amount of difficulty & a little more frustration but I just cannot fathom why it only rings once for an incoming call. Can anyone please help here? I also have not managed to set up the repeat alert for text messages & whilst having followed all voice prompts to setup my voicemail, I am still without voicemail? I love Samsung phones & will no doubt love this one too once I have mastered the hiccups.

Yes, you CAN download pictures from your computer onto your phone. Simply download the CD that comes with the phone. When you have done this use the USB connector to connect the phone & the computer (make sure that you insert it into the phone properly or it could damage the phone & this shall not count on your warranty). Then you shall see this little thing come up. Click on it & then you can go onto your pictures & simply click on them, then carry them to where it says to phone.
If you wish to download music, then it must be burnt onto a CD. Insert the CD, then you can download you music too. Some of this might be wrong, because I only watched as my daddy did it for me. But most of it is right.
About the phone of it! I think it is a wicked phone! I especially like the pinkness of it! LOL. Have fun with your new Samsung J700 1.3 mega pixel phone!
I just bought this phone from Phones 4 you & I think that it is absolutely AWESOME! The phone itself was £50, but because I got it on T mobile I had to pay £20 air time, but there was also a special offer, 1 year warranty against theft, damage or anything else, just for £5! (was £20).
I like this phone because I love the colour (pink), it has an MP3 player, radio, a really good 1.3 mega pixel camera which you can do some really cool mosaic thing with, I really like it because it's a slide phone & plus it comes with headphones!
I seriously say you should buy this phone from Phones 4 you because it is the BEST PHONE EVER! From Princess Sparkle.

Got this phone last week after having used Nokia's for many years & have to say I am incredibly disappointed in the Samsung.
I find it really hard to text as the buttons are so flat & not very sensitive. You also have to go through a whole load of button pressing before you can actually send the text, choosing whether to send or send & save, choosing your contact, selecting your contact etc. Overly time consuming compared to other phones. Also, limited ringtones unless you download your own.
I have to say that the camera is actually okay although it did take me a couple of days to realise there was a plastic covering on the back of the camera so once I took that off the clarity was fab!
I agree with the comments about how difficult it is to get the back off too. Still trying to wrench it off!
Overall it isn't the easiest phone to use & after a week of using the Samsung J700 I will be shopping for a Nokia at the weekend!

Usability is OK, would give rate it a bit higher as functionalities are easy to use & easy to setup the setting but the battery cover is a pain but I have find out the easiest way:
1) Place your phone between both of your palms (the arrow on the cover pointing upward).
2) Use the heel of the hand to push the battery cover & move that hand upward.

Batt cover has two little teeth at the bottom that hook it into the phone, one on each side, like look at where it says SAMSUNG on the top bit of the back of the phone, there's one tooth in line with the first S & one in line with the G. So use both thumbs, one over each side of where the teeth are, & push it up that way. Works a bit easier.

To answer many previous questions, you get the battery cover off by pushing down on the cover as you slide up. As its right where the screen is it's easiest to put all four fingers at the top & use the palm-thumb joint to push down while sliding up. It's a little tricky but once you get the hang of it its fine.
I used to have the Samsung e840 which had the same difficulty! I have to say I did prefer my old phone (unfortunately other phone experiences).
It's a pretty solid little phone & seems to cover the basics, my only question is, why is there no screensaver? Or perhaps there is, & I can't find it. I just want a clock on the screen when I slide it shut, is this really too difficult?
Overall I would probably give this phone 8/10. Mostly due to the insensitivity of the buttons when texting. Apart from that it seems pretty good!

A well designed phone but that is no good if it doesn't actually let you make phone calls. It cuts out all the time & the signal is often poor when other phones on the same network work fine. To make a call at home yesterday I had to quickly switch the SIM card over to my ancient Motorola phone so that I could actually speak to the person I was calling. I took it in for repair (the charger connection was faulty) & they said there was no fault on the phone itself just the connection & so it appears that they are all this bad. However, when I opened it I was amazed, it came with a USB, earphones, an Orange SIM card with a top up card. When I turned on the phone I just kept discovering never ending features such as an image editor, a very nice MP3 player, Bluetooth, you can make the keypad lights turn on & off at certain times, you can change the menu around, you can change the number colours & fonts when you are calling someone. The phone design is very sleek, slim & good looking. Although the camera is only 1.3MP & it's not the best, it's still a camera with a video recorder as well, you only get like 10MB internal memory with it but you can buy a cheap 2GB memory stick. For £39.99 you couldn't actually ask for more. This a perfect phone for someone who doesn't want to spend much. It also comes with the Samsung installation disk so you can put music onto your phone & more.

Just a note to clarify things. I recently got a j700 as a present. I am using an.MP3 file as my message tone. I repeat: YOU CAN USE AN MP3 FILE AS A MESSAGE TONE. It just has to be on the phone in the music folder. (My files, music, music) Here is a step by step procedure: 1) put the.MP3 file on the phone using the software provided. 2) Go to menu, my files, music, music & check that it is there. 3) Go back to the main screen then go to menu, settings, phone settings, phone profile, go to the profile you use, options, edit, press the right arrow button to go to messages, then the down button. 4) Press the middle button, then look for your song by pressing left & right arrows. Once you see it (it should be in a folder called 'Music') use the up & down arrows to select it. Press the middle button. 5) Your 'Message alert tone' should be whatever you selected. 6) Press options, save profile. I hope that clears things up about the MP3 message tones.
Ps. In reply to Glenn Rosental. You have to make sure that the SD memory card is under 2GB that is the max the phone can take. Note: To make the quality of the pictures & especially the camcorder better, when in camera mode, press the left circular button & a menu should pop up. Scroll to the right & turn the resolution up to full. The battery in mine is fine. I haven't had it for long but it hasn't dropped one bar. In reply to Bobby from London, UK; if you press the red 'hang up' button, the music does stop. You can, however, close the slider & it will still play. You can turn the volume up much louder by using the buttons on the side. Note: I find the slider very easy to use & I can use it in one hand. Reply to Rachel - London, UK Date: 14th Jun 2008 thinking of getting this phone, can you record own sound to use as a message alert? Yes you can use the voice recorder to record your own tunes to be used in calls or message tones. Also, when you get text or call, do you get caller id on screen, picture of contact? Yes, if the contact is in your address book, you can apply a picture of them to be displayed when they ring. You can also apply a distinctive ringtone. Their number will come up regardless of if they are in your address book or not as long as they don't have private mode on. Also, how do you listen your MP3 player, speakers or headset? Either. The radio you need headphones for though, as these act as the ariel. (Samsung headphones only) How many songs can you store on here? the on-board memory is 10MB but you can get up to 2GB with a micro SD card. & last but not least, you can choose to have ring, ring & vibrate, increasing volume, vibrate only, increase & vibrate etc. Sorry about the long post but I hope this helps out anyone with or without the phone. MEDIA & FM Radio, you can't listen FM radio on speakers unless you have headphones attached which works as antenna.
Music Player, great music player with preset equalizer which plays MP3 & MIDI files efficiently. Supports playlists, make your own playlists.
Video Player & Recorder, good one. Didn't check it yet.
Camera, 1.3MP camera with very good picture quality. Best picture quality you can get on 800 x 600. On higher resolution, quality may get a little lower, don't know you, because at higher resolution, it was supposed to be more good. Also supports picture editing with frames & images. Picture modes available, like sepia, negative etc. Environment control, like day night adjustment & exposure.
Bluetooth, fast Bluetooth transmission unlike V3i which was just a mess.
PHONEBOOK
- Predicts name while you type number, so to avoid typing whole number again & again.
- Saves 1000 entries in phone.
- Make groups.
- Speed dial mode.

MESSAGING

- Very soft keypad & immediately fits the finger tips.
- Typing speed with good processor. Not like SGH E715 which becomes slower while message amount increases.
- Saves unsent msgs in outbox & drafts.
- Saves sent messages in sent box to keep records.
- You can make your own folders for saving messages in them.
SCREEN DISPLAY, very good & impressive display with dual clock can be set with two time zones. Fully customizable anytime. In the end, collectively, this is the best mobile phone Samsung could ever have, & you will love to show it to people because of its so stylish design in black & silver & pink.

Can you have MP3 as message tones? YES you can, you go to phone profiles, then edit, then across to new messages, set the alert type to melody, then go down to message alert & press across until you come up to music.

Nice little phone in a very fetching shade of crushed raspberry, great little girly phone without being too girly! Had this phone for 2 days now & so far have managed to do everything I need a phone to do. I want to make calls & send texts & not a lot more. I have a digital camera to take pictures so not bothered about that feature.
The MP3 feature is quite adequate for my usage. You can set MP3 as ringtone but not as message tone. That one cannot be changed so you are stuck with the ones onboard which are not very inspiring. Not a major problem for me, it would be a nice feature but not essential.
The display isn't the best I have seen but you can see what you are doing so what more can you ask for. As a silver surfer I do like the large number display
All in all it's a nice phone with all the functionality that you need a phone to do, make calls, send text. If you want something to take good pictures then buy a camera!

It looks really, stylish, easy to use. The only thing I would complain about would be the camera it's not as clear as other phones but still good, but what do you want for £60. Generally I am pleased with this phone. It's looks stylish & is easy to use. Back hard to get off, but I have no problem with the sliding action as some have mentioned. My one gripe is that for some reason when choose save & send option it keeps saving it to draft saying there is no number when there was, even when replying to a text. Frustrating but doesn't put me off the phone. Does anybody know if you can download pictures from the PC to the phone?

Thinking of getting this phone, can you record own sound to use as a message alert? Also, when you get text or call, do you get caller id on screen, picture of contact?
Also, how do you listen your MP3 player, speakers or headset? How many songs can you store on here?

After a week of looking at reviews of all makes of phone, I decided to buy the Samsung J700 today. I've always stayed with Nokia, but decided to try something different! I bought it for £50 on the Vodafone network (from Vodafone Store). Well. I think it's fantastic. Unlike a lot of Samsungs (from what I've read), you can choose your own message alert & have ring & vibrate together. I like everything from the look of the phone to the feel of the keys. Haven't tried the camera yet, but that isn't top of my priority list anyway, I mainly use it for calling & texting. Very impressed so far & would highly recommend this phone :o).

It's a great phone, I just bought it, & it's easy as rubbish, the only annoying thing is creating a playlist, but as long as you buy a memory card, for what, 8 quid, you can have a GB, so no worries.
Only annoying thing, it doesn't support a lot of video formats, & sometimes when I get a picture message it isn't compatible. Good phone, for 60 quid.

My boyfriend got me this phone in PINK as a present 3 weeks back. Being a girly girl. I fell in LOVE with the colour instantly. & the design is really stylish & it does look way more expensive than it actually is.
I find it really simple to use, being a textaholic I am glad that I can text really fast on it with no problems what so ever.
I haven't been too happy with the camera, however it really isn't that bad.
I think it's a really cool phone, a lot similar to the Samsung U600 which is more expensive. So well worth its price.

Oh by the way there are some great bargains at phones 4 you in Middleton they give you the phone free on contract & then there are many different tariffs e.g. Mine is 50 minutes 150 texts per month for £15 which is cheaper than the actual tariff Vodafone give you, they give you £45 to pay for 9 months so you only have to pay £15 per month. Even though the camera isn't thought to be very good I am actually quite happy with it. Although you have to keep the camera still for a couple of seconds after taking a picture otherwise you end up with it being blurred. This phone is very easy to use although there are lots on there so the menu is really full. Therefore it can be tricky to find things. I've had this phone about 3 weeks & overall I am really pleased. One of the reasons for buying Samsung is that there is the option to have a repeating text alert, which is important for me. (I can't understand why every manufacturer doesn't include this feature as standard). It would have been even better if a repeating alert was also available for missed calls (as on my old Motorola V3), but as I mainly use the phone for texting, I am not that bothered about this. To the person who asked how to change the message tone, all you need to do is, Go to Phone settings, Phone profiles, Select (highlight) the one you want & select options with the left soft key. Click Edit (1) then use the directional key to highlight the New Messages icon. Scroll down to Message Alert, then left soft key & select edit (as above), then click the directional key until you hit either Downloaded Music or sounds (depending on where you stored your sound file) select your file, then left soft key & select save, then that's it, done!
Hope this helps.

Really easy to use, you can add your own music to your ringtone & message tone which I thought was really good as the standard message tones were pretty quite & that was a big worry because a lot of the phones now seem really quite but I can hear them with ease now. The camera doesn't bother me as I prefer to take pictures with a normal camera. Battery life is really good, I agree about the slider opening the fact there is no grip to open it, but again this does not bother me & for £49.99 plus a ten pound top up I think it is a bargain, I would recommend this phone to anyone. My only slightly bad point is the way the phone slides, although the design looks fantastic, the whole face of the phone slides up & with no little rubber bit on the face it's virtually impossible to slide it one handed. So you tend to have to use both hands to open it.
But other than that very small issue the phone is great & I would recommend it to anybody wanting a good reliable phone.

I can't even complain about the camera though I did say at the time I wasn't buying for the camera, I took a picture on Saturday & asked someone else to take one also with an Ericsson with a Sony camera on it & mine actually came out better than his.

Love this phone. Had a few problems trying to Bluetooth my phone book to the phone (but I think that was because I was going from a Sony Ericsson to a Samsung) so I took a while to sort out my phonebook. Sending a text takes a bit of getting used to, the buttons are sometimes unresponsive & adding the number to send it to seems to involve more steps than necessary. You also have to remember to leave the phone open until the message has sent or it stops sending it.

You want to get down to Tesco & get a cracking deal, only cost £50.00. When you spend over £25.00 you gett it for that great price, what an ammazing little phone. Thanks for the recommendation from my friend Kate who owns a Farm Locally & her mum said that it has big numbers so highly recommend.

I have had the Samsung J700 for three days now & think it is one of the best phones I have had I can't say anything bad about this phone. I have used Samsung since forever & this has got to be the best.

Could someone please tell me how to customise the message tone on this great phone. I've read a couple of reviews which refer to setting an MP3 as the message tone, how? I can assign an MP3 as a ring or alarm tone but not for the message tone. Please help :).

I have owned 5 Samsung phones now & have loved them all, this is very stylish, easy to use & as I use it as a business phone it looks smart enough to compete with the more expensive phones out there. I have had Motorola's & Nokia's in the past, I do tend to change my mobile every 6 months or so but for 4 years I've stuck to Samsung because they are fantastic to use & look good. Had a Nokia for 2 weeks early in the new year & I couldn't adapt to it so went back to my old Samsung until I bought this one. Loving it. Stop depriving yourself & go get it!

A great phone, good looking, stylish & good features. For a budget phone (£59.95 including £10 airtime from Phones 4 you) it is the perfect upgrade for my E350. You can even change the message tones to play MP3's, unusual for Samsung. I have had it a week & love it & can't think of anything bad to say about it.

This is a great little phone easy to navigate menu. Nice clear screen, takes good photos. Got it for my Mum who is in her eighties & it didn't take her long to get the hang of it. With a £69.99 price tag at Orange it is excellent value.
