The Samsung i780 is 3G Smartphone which comes with easy to use business features & high performance technology. The handset is coloured black which suits this business focused 3G Smartphone. It is a good sized handset when considering all the built in technologies & features as it measures 115.9mm high by 61.3mm wide by 13.3mm deep. This desirable Smartphone comes with a large touchscreen which measures 2.6 Inches in size & provides up to sixty five thousand colours on a TFT type screen. The touchscreen has a high screen resolution of three hundred & twenty pixels by three hundred & twenty pixels. The Samsung i780 comes with a stylus which allows the user to make selections on their touchscreen with ease. A full QWERTY keyboard provides the user with the perfect input method when typing messages, emails & documents. The operating system is a Microsoft Windows Mobile version 6 & supports Microsoft Office Mobile software which makes this handset the perfect business companion when the user is away from the office. The user can connect to other devices including a printer, PC, Laptop & headset using either a Bluetooth® wireless connection or a USB cabled connection between the two compatible devices. Had tried to do the setting for my 3 day old i780 via phone with the telco (Maxis) but was unsuccessful & the telco requested that I bring it into their Customer Service Centre to let their staff do the setting.

I brought it to the telco's Customer Service Centre as advised & when they reset my i780 after doing the setting, my i780 crashed!

I was totally distressed as my immediate concern was the 600+ numbers I have in my contact list that was stored in my i780 hard drive!

At the Samsung Service Centre, they told me it was the first ever i780 they had received.

After some initial checking, they told me they do not know what was wrong with it as they cannot bring it back into working condition & they have to call their HQ in KOREA for guidance & help.

The next day, the Samsung Service Centre called me to inform that their HQ in Korea do not know why my unit had crashed. Up to now, they could not bring it back into working condition either.

As such, Samsung Service Center offered to replace my unit with a new i780. I have to wait 2 weeks to get the replacement unit. At this time, I have not decided if I will accept another replacement unit or to simply get my refund & buy another proven make & model.

Having previously used the SPV M3100, the Samsung i780 was an absolute dream to own. It is very light to carry around, yet it has all the features that a modern PDA phone should have.

(In my view) the essential list is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA & GPS. The phone also has an unique feature which is the mouse pointer that is controlled by the small square in the middle of the phone. This is extremely usable in my view, it saves you having to pull out the stylus.

The GPS works a treat with my navigation software, but I was more impressed with the quality of Google Maps. The other bundled application is the Opera browser which is also very nice to use.

The camera is decent, the battery life is (so far) pretty good. My only quibble is the screen resolution, at 320x320 many of my purchased pocket PC applications do not display properly. I am hoping the authors will release updates to cover this resolution. However I have to say that the navigation software (tom tom) works brilliant & has no problem with the odd resolution.

My advice, if you want a PDA phone that works great & is slim, this is the ultimate device. This is my first ever review (of any phone), I think this phone deserves a good reputation.
