Nice design, shame about the rubbish software. I bought this phone on the basis of the glowing reviews about the qwerty keyboard & the high speed connectivity of the device. Mmmm.

The hardware is nice, it has a compact & quality feel about it & the keyboard is easier to use than say the Blackberry. The battery life is OK SO LONG AS WiFi & Bluetooth are OFF. That's about all the good stuff. You get 2 batteries. & 2 battery covers. So you have to carry the second cover to use the larger second battery? Headphones use non standard plug.

& now the really rubbish stuff, the software is bad. I have never ever had such a SLOWWWWWW phone. It kept locking up (Blue screen of death on a phone?) Is this some kind of sick joke by the guys in Redmond? I had to take out the battery to unfreeze the phone, unbelievable in a phone this expensive.

I took it back to Samsung Hong Kong & first of all they fobbed me off with some out of warranty, story even though I bought a factory sealed box less than 12 months prior. Customer service? Hah. Then they said that the motherboard was defective & would cost $250 to replace, Errr. That's a new phone guys! Eventually it was reloaded with the OS (by a Samsung office in another country, nice one guys) but it still takes all day to load anything. The WM6 software is clunky. Entering a contact name, tel, No & Errr. Where's the company name entry box? After 3 email addresses, 3 fax number boxes, pet parrots name, telex number, 2nd cousin's birth date. Oh there it is. Way down the bottom. How smart, especially bearing in mind that it takes more than, shall we say, a few seconds to GET THERE! Typing messages it's easy to get way ahead of the software, so you type a number & then deselect the NUM lock & continue typing letters to find that you have a string of mumbo jumbo. The phone wants to use the useless T9 predictive text & there's no way e.g. in Tasks of disabling it. Err. Isn't the point of the QWERTY keyboard that you don't need predictive text?

I can connect to Wi-Fi (eventually, after using the useless wireless manager interface - guessing where you are on the 2-tone grey screen. Did they run out of money to make a proper GUI for this? ) but the IE browser is rubbish & guess what, Samsung doesn't use Java so Opera cannot be used on this phone. So I can get access to a website but I can't do anything once I am there.

Oh, & to the guy who said that the phone works just fine so long as you keep going into task manager to close down unused applications. Yes, you can do that. The phone seems to work faster if it's just doing one thing at a time. But it's not very SMART is it if you have to keep manually shutting down applications (including SYNCMANAGER which insists on running the whole time).

So I thought it was just that I had a dud phone. Then I read all these other reviews & realised that this phone model really is a real dud. Good hardware. But never ever, ever, ever will I buy another Windows Mobile based Smartphone. Never. Ever.

I was UTTERLY disappointed with this phone. It was amazingly slow, even with a memory card at full power. It took at least 5 minutes for number to display once you'd typed them, it's quite bulky. Terrible coverage. The only thing it's good for is texting, which it's actually really slow at doing too. It is the worst phone I've ever bought.

The phone goes into a hanging state every now & then. The OS is still running but cannot make or receive calls. Only reboot fix this. I also found that if I have a feeling that it is not working anymore & I go to Band Selection, then it gives me an info message Unable to get band selection. Then I have no choice but to reboot. With this I am missing a lot of calls & receiving whole bunch of voice messages after the reboot.

THIS IS a rubbish MOBILE. AUDIO QUALITY IS rubbish.

IT'S GOOD FOR Wi-Fi & Internet BROADBAND CONNECTIONS BUT WILL DRAIN the BATTERY FAST.

I THINK IT MAY BE USEFUL JUST FOR PEOPLE THAT don't TALK MUCH & USE A LOT OF EMAIL OR CONNECTION THROUGHT LAPTOP.

BUT IF YOU ARE TALKING don't EVER BUY THIS KIND OF SAMSUNG MOBILE.

I HAD TO COME BACK TO MY OLD MODEL BECAUSE PEOPLE JUST DIDN'T UNDERSTOOD ME, I ALSO HEAR PEOPLE WITH VERY BAD QUALITY, LIKE BEING IN A BOX.

IT COSTED ME 250 EURO.

It however is not upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.

In reply to this statement, this phone can & has been upgraded to WM6. I got this phone recently & wondered the same. I have successfully done it. Though due to the South Africa version being slightly different you have to go through a ROM flash twice to achieve WM6. First to a European Rom then to the WM6 ROM.

I am my opinion, the phone is cool. It works well, & when 3G HSDPA is turned off the battery life is great!

It shocked me when I am seeing the negative comments about how troublesome the i600 would be.

I am buying this phone & loving it since day one. When I am receiving the phone, I've tested it anyway I can. I really push the phone for multi tasking. After few software (5 to 7) opened, the phone slows down. It's understandable considering the small size & the limited memory the phone have. (Hey, if you want to edit images, video etc. Get a laptop). BUT it only slows down, not going into state of hang, after I clear the entire task manager, voila. We're back in business baby.

It really does have all the tools I need, like push email, video call, camera, MMS, sms, a tons of tools. All work hassle free. Well. At least if YOU know how. He he he. Don't blame the phone.

The product quality speaks for itself. Well done Samsung. Cheers!

From another satisfied customer.

Best mobile phone if you want to have small laptop with wireless communication: open MS Office documents, Internet Explorer, synchronization with mail & appointments with Outlook, 54Mbps network. Fastest Wi-Fi for phone & best sms or email keyboard ever. You can download new Windows Mobile 6 & updates from Microsoft for free. Windows media player can play movies & MP3. Great sound & clear big screen. 1, 3 Mpx camera. I love this phone.

For normal users who call & send sms/MMS this phone is probably too much. For experienced user who wants all from one phone in nice package & MUCH cheaper than iPhone it's the best.

I have to give a poor usability note, because this phone has a very poor battery. Although I have a set of two batteries, plus an external charger, most of the time it is not enough for a day use. Ex: I changed for a fresh battery today at 12PM & it ran flat at 02 AM, & I didn't use the phone at all. It has been always in standby.

I waited ages for the Samsung i600 & when it arrived I had a bit of hassle setting up email. I phoned Vodafone who at that time weren't selling it (don't know if they are yet) & they told me to contact Samsung.

The guy on the Samsung help desk told me it was a Windows problem & to contact Microsoft! By the way, if you're reading this Samsung Help desk Guy you'd be better employed running a hot dog stand, because the phrase totally useless doesn't even come close where you're concerned. I never did get my email up & running. I binned it & got a Nokia N95 which is way ahead of the i600.

The i600 is a cool phone. It however is not upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6 & it has been stripped down from its international released i600. E.g. Voice command. It also has a niche of hanging-up on receipt of another call & you cannot look-up a number whiles a person is holding. Its international release can be bought for $99.00 as appose to R3'700.00 here in South Africa. I am pretty hacked off at Samsung for its blunt poor service & support. I am selling my i600.

I received my phone Sunday & couldn't put it down since then.

I love the futures!

Only problem I have is that when I get an sms or Text message & use a song or long tune as the ring tone the phone won't stop the song & the vibrating even though I have read the whole message. No matter what I do it won't stop until it has played the whole song.

Is this just the way it is or is there a setting I missed somewhere?

Otherwise brilliant phone.

I ignored all the bad reviews & bought it & now wish I hadn't. The battery is bad & the manufacturer knows it, that's why it comes with a separate battery with a separate battery charger. An easy guess!

The operating system is slow. You don't get to where you want to get as quick as you would like. It's like operating windows vista on a machine that run on 126MB memory. Ssslllooowww!

I could go on but those two were more than enough to put me off so I am returning it!

The main problems for me were:

- Very poor battery life.

- Push e-mail didn't work.

- Wi-Fi had issues.

I have now bought a Sony Ericsson P1 & in my honest advice, the P1 is a MUCH I stress MUCH better.

Got the phone a couple of days ago & I have managed to master most of the functions even though the printed manual is a bit short on information.

Surfed the web via 3G. Set up & connected to GMail-mobile. Connected to my home wi-fi network & surfed the web (cheaper than 3G). Added a 2GB SD card & put tons of music on it & use it with the Plantronics 590A Bluetooth Headset, awesome quality & loads of volume.

I miss the Microsoft Office suite that I had on my I-Mate, but you can't have everything :-). Got 2 batteries with the phone, charged them up for 24 hours before use & I am getting good life span with them.

I cannot find a decent cover to protect the unit from scratches etc. All in all, very impressed.

Well what can I say? I bought it & had it for one day. I returned it the other. Why? Well, let's just say the phone lived a life of its own. Hopefully, after they reload the software then it'll work fine. The not so fun part is that I got late for work because a 'device.exe' failed. I have to note that I turned the phone off for the night for it not to crash (just in case). Somehow the phone managed to crash while being turned off, beats me.

Overall, the Samsung scroll card menu or whatever they call it is very nice. Hadn't heard the music quality & hadn't even seen a video. In Poland the phone came with two batteries, a regular & an extended life. I managed to load mine only once.

Good phone overall & the opinions apart from mine seem pleasing. Luckily I got mine on a 24 month warranty program. Yikes, I am afraid the thought of buying a Smartphone without a warranty program just scares me.

No 2 megapixel camera, no autofocus no flash. Screen seems a bit too small. Call quality was average. My callers had trouble hearing what I was saying & at moments I had trouble hearing them. The loud speaker is I must agree - weak. I concurrently own a SE K800i & the speaker is much louder & clearer. Yes, it's a pain to get used to but (probably) after you do it's much more comfy. Oh yeah what's up with applications that keep running after you actually stop using them? The task manager is indispensible. Great tool for communication, wonder how media playback will be? Good luck.

The design is great & it is an OK phone with all the features you can except, from a phone.

Its product targeted at business users, who might want to use it, as you do with these products, to send/receive e-mail, edit/write documents. Here the i600 is out of its league completely, I would even go as far as saying that maybe Samsung does not lie in their publicity but they do 'gloss' over some important things.

You can 'view' Word documents & Excel spreadsheets, that's it! You can't edit them or create them (unless you buy additional 3d party software), a bit of a surprise when you have used Qtek 9100, etc before. I asked before buying it, does it have spell-check (like they usually do in this category), the answer was yes. FALSE - it has a strangely designed T9-function, not quite the same thing when it comes to writing a text.

This is the way forward. One critism is that it could be a little smaller in line with the next Motorola Q9. There is always something round the corner with Windows phones.

Sleek, looks great, sleek, but fiddly to use. Takes awhile to get use to all functions, but otherwise great good all purpose mobile device.

Brilliant tool with everything I need, organizer, email, web, phone, excellent keypad, fast connectivity, sd card extension for memory to 2 GB. Cool design, light & slim.

Got this phone last week. Got it set up to sync with works exchange server within 2 minutes. Dumped some software on it & still runs smoothly. (I did upgrade the 1GB Micro SD Card).

I love this phone. I have been searching for the perfect Cell/ PDA combo & at last it has arrived.

Regret buying this mobile phone. Internet & email configuration is complicated, not friendly user. Even the Samsung Staff took hours to complete! Customer service seems to be under par! Not helpful & poor demonstration! I was there on from 3.30pm & completed at 6.45pm!

Looks fantastic, very sleek & stylish. QWERTY keyboard is a bit annoying in that you can't make out the letters & numbers very well, the lights turns off too quickly. There are plenty of features which are brilliant, love the camera & the ability to take action photos etc.

The major fault is that even on Orange, the reception is useless. The same chip in a Nokia phone receives much better in the same areas.
