I had the G600 Samsung & was really happy with it but wanted to adjust to the times & just bought myself a very nice looking F700. I have one big problem with it however I was wondering if you could help me on. I used to go on to facebook Google on my phone & when I saw a picture I liked; clicked on it, & then went to the options, save, web page or image. Now when I go to options & save it only comes up with save, web page. There is no place to save image. Just wondering if this is the same with every f700 or if mine has a problem, wrong settings?

If you could get back to me I would be really grateful. Thanks a lot, Rachael :).

I have had this phone for a while now & I love it.

I have to admit the camera is not much good in my opinion & the zoom could be better. But the other features make up for it. The keyboard is by far the best feature, it's really simple to use & makes me text a lot faster.

I think the phone should be able to change theme colours & designs but apart from that. I would definitely recommend this phone.

Yeah I mean the phone looks like nice. I had the phone for around about 4 month maybe not even that & I had problems with picking up calls as I had to constantly press the screen before it would answer the call. I didn't think when in a call the sound was very loud, even when the phone was ringing. It wasn't very loud.

I ended up getting rid & replacing it for the C905 & that's not good either got it three month ago & I don't even have that one anymore. But that will be all in the C905 review by me.

Had this phone 12 months now &, unfortunately be due to a few trips down the stairs etc!

A couple of weeks ago the sound in a phone call started to go. I'll be ringing someone & can't hear anything & then all of a sudden it'll wake up & start blasting at full volume in my ear! Also, starting to look a bit tired, this phone, like all touch screen I guess, is quite prone to visible scratches.

Besides these problems, this is a great phone & if you only get it on a 12 month contract then you'll be changing it before it dies anyway!

I like the layout of this phone so much (touch screen with qwerty keypad) that I am scouring the Internet for similar new phones, think I'll get the Nokia N97 in 6 months time when the contract runs out.

I read all the other reviews & what I am saying is nothing new. The usability of this phone is awful. I have resurrected my Nokia 6600 & am using that instead. Why, nothing worse than getting an important call, & being unable to get the touch screen to work, pounding & pounding & rubbing & poking away at that screen, sorry lost too many calls, probably lost business too & most certainly cost me more because I had to return calls. A phone should act like a phone & all the other add ons should be a bonus. If a phone fails to operate as a phone, bin it which I have.

I LOVE this phone so much. I have had this phone for 4 months now & haven't had a single problem with it, people said the touch screen wasn't too responsive but I find it the most responsive touch screen I have had yet.

The keyboard is amazing on it but it takes some getting used to which I don't mint one bit. The screen is bright. The camera is brilliant in my opinion. Responsive touch screen & loud ring. These are all my opinions but I LOVE this phone so much. I would recommend it to anyone.

Only bad thing is the price but in my opinion it is worth it.

I have actually had this phone for over a year now, & although I love it, the keyboard is just amazing, I am having nothing but annoying problems with it now. The phone will not switch off at all. Which I have to admit was very annoying when going on holiday, as to switch it off, I had to take the battery out, as it switches itself back on again as soon as it is switched off otherwise.

The screen keeps going blank while using it, although things typed still appear after the screen comes back. My screen also sometimes reverses the colour, displays upside down, back to front, mirror imaged, & on one occasion, I had four mini screens on the screen.

The screen takes around 30 seconds to come on now, less if it's been sitting overnight unused, but the more it is used during the day, the longer it takes.

However having said all that, I would definitely buy another one of this phone, I do love everything it has on it, & the ease of the keyboard for us texting nut jobs is amazing.

I am getting this phone as a present for Xmas. I have spent months looking at reviews & photographs & have fell in love with the phone, I can't wait to get it, the camera is much much much better than my old phone as it has 3 mp, a flash & loads of editing settings.

I have never had a touch screen or a phone with a keyboard so it will take a long time to get used too but it will be well worth it.

Hope this helped you a tiny little bit but I am just so excited that I had to post this. Thank you for reading this.

The sensitivity of the touch screen is not good enough, sometimes you need to press it really hard to get it work.

Volume is not high enough, very easy to miss calls when you are outdoors.

The camera is rubbish, the worst camera I've ever had with phones & pictures all look a bit bluish.

The only good thing about it is the big screen.

I have wanted this phone for ages & I finally got it today! I have to say I love it! It looks fantastic & it's so easy to use I can't believe that some people have written bad reviews about the touch screen etc. I have found it easy to use, very responsive & so stylish. The qwerty keypad is awesome! The camera is OK for a phone camera but buy a digital camera if you want it to be fantastic! I love it don't want to stop playing with it!

This is the worst phone I've ever owned!

The Touch Screen is absolutely useless & often doesn't respond, sometimes the bottom bar of buttons when typing a text don't work & it constantly freezes up. When you hang up from a call the screen won't come back on & I have to take the battery out!

The QWERTY keyboard is useless as the buttons are too small to use!

I will never get another Samsung touch screen again!

Only 10 months into an 18 month contract & I've had to take out a new contract to get a decent phone, the Nokia N78, which thankfully isn't a touch screen & isn't a Samsung!

Now I am having it for Xmas & can't wait, I love that the phone is unique but stylish at the same time & I adore the QWERTY keyboard. Had this phone for about 6 months & it is amazing.

The QWERTY keypad is by far the best idea for a phone. I smashed the screen in drunken night out (still worked but was hard to read texts) & had to use a normal phone for a week which hard to get use to because I had been using the QWERTY for so long.

If it had a bit better camera & radio the features would be 100% & Wi Fi would help as well.

Usability this phone is so easy to use, the one down side is sometimes it's hard to answer when its locked (you have to unlock then press the centre button & the tap the screen & the select answer) although that might just be me.

The one downside as that as far as I am aware it's no longer available in the UK. So hopefully mine will last for another couple of years.

Well I got my F700 on an upgrade from Vodafone as the iPhone is only available to O2 at the moment (Vodafone when are you going to get this exclusive agreement off O2? ). & liked the look of this phone & its uncanny resemblance to the iPhone, it even fits in the iPhone case!

I have to say that initially it was a pain to use as the screen kept freezing & going to places I didn't ask it to! I found also that the phone won't end calls very well & especially voicemail calls where many times I have had to take the damn battery out to kill the call! You have to be really positive with the touch screen & give it time to react & you will find that with a bit of patience it gets easier! Now I am used to it I am finding it great to use & the slide out QWERTY keyboard is fabulous. I can sit there like a typewriter & text for England! It is very easy & a clear easy to read screen above it & I love the way it turns pictures & text around depending how you hold the phone! Cool!

Yes you have to lock the touch screen to avoid accidentally sending it to music or text but it becomes automatic to touch the screen & unlock or lock the screen afterwards.

The camera is great & the resolution is fine for Bluetoothing to my PC laptop or wherever & the quality is as good as a cheaper digital camera anywhere. I like also that you can edit & crop & enhance the photos before you save or send them, not quite Photoshop or iPhoto but damn good for a phone!

Haven't got to grips with the music side of things as I have an iPod but the Bose earphones it comes with are the best & work a treat in my iPod!

I would recommend this phone to anyone who is happy to play around & has patience & likes something that looks as cool as the iPhone only with a superb keyboard built in.

I would have to add that I am not sure that I would ever want to go back to a phone where you have to press a button 3 times to input a letter in an SMS again.& Blackberries are so fiddly & small & fall to bits! What phone would I choose next, merge the iPhone & this one & you might have the answer!

I've ordered my F700 today & can't wait for delivery.

Personally I think this phone is one of the most sleek & sleek phones you can get at the moment. I originally decided on the Nokia n95 but soon cancelled the order when I came across this baby.

I rated the features 80% for only 2 reasons.

- I love taking photos & I think a 5 mega pixel camera would have been better.
- I am in love with music so a radio would have been a great bonus both of which this phone does not have.

I also rated the usability 65% because I have not received the phone yet & have never used something similar.

Apart from that I've read hundreds of reviews on this phone & I have to say there are more positive than negative reviews so I believe I've made the best choice on my upgrade.

To everyone else out there I think this phone is designed for the younger generation who is more clued up on working with new technology.

What is wrong with the people for whom the screen freezes, are you using it to juggle!

This is a great phone with which I have had no problems for the 3 months I have owned it. I use it for texts (keypad is a joy to use after having a numeric pad with 4 letters on it, like most phones.) calling (answering phone calls involves switching off the lock button & pressing accept, is this really so hard? ), & answering emails, (easily done through Internet application.)

I have noticed that the camera is not the best, so my suggestion is BUY A CAMERA IF YOU WANT BRILLIANT PHOTOS.

My one complaint is how deep it is, a little smaller would have been better but that may have reduced functions & visibility of the screen.

I would happily get another one when this one finally packs up. Although no sign of this happening anytime soon.

I loved the look of this phone when I bought it. Many people confused it for an iPhone & it's just generally a very sleek looking phone. Pity then it would cause me so much hassle! I am somewhat a party girl, try being slightly intoxicated & working the touch screen to answer calls, it's a no go! Too fiddly, when I am not piddled as it is! This phone constantly freezes. For me it's generally while I am texting, maybe I fly too quickly over the QWERTY keyboard who knows! I've had to send one back to be repaired, & was told it couldn't be done so, so I paid a £25 excess to get the next one (thank god I got insurance! ) Just be careful expect problems.

Had the phone a few months now & am really frustrated that there is still no firmware update on the website. The screen goes blank during a conversation & all the buttons freeze so you cannot end the call. I've had to take the battery out on several occasions to do this. The touch screen works sometimes, but others not (for instance when trying to tap in a phone number). I have put a 4GB memory card in the phone to hold my MP3's & when I go to list the songs, the phone freezes for roughly 5 seconds every time you try to scroll down the album list. Very, very slow phone. & the basic features such as dialling a number & ending a call don't even work. It's a pity as the design is nice & the menus nice. But avoid like the plague until Samsung get off their behinds & release a fix.

A great idea & smart looking phone which apes the functionality of the iPhone but fails miserably in the execution. Great as a phone but ringer volume is just not loud enough. If you drop it behind a settee, good luck finding it because you will not hear it by ringing it even on an outdoor profile. A saving grace, the hidden keyboard is wonderful, great for SMS. The phone is a fantastic piece of design, its well made, loads of stuff on it, however, I don't think the phone can handle it, & sadly keeps freezing.

SO while that's off for repair, I have brought a Sony Ericsson V640i as a new back up phone, for the next time the Samsung breaks, which I am sure it will do.

I got this phone last week & I love it. A few tiny weenie improvements could be made but what phone hasn't. The reviews that I have read say the touch screen isn't all that but the UI is a delight to use, no problems what so ever. As for the camera my opinion is that it produces very high quality images, but you do need to have a steady hand. The only thing I guess is the size. You won't be able to fit this in your pocket but if your OK with big phones then its fine.

So I do recommend this phone a I couldn't be happier with it.

Having used this phone for some two months, I have to say it is about the worst product I have ever had the misfortune to use.

The touch screen keypad is unresponsive, sometimes the keys work, other times they don't. The screen has a habit of going completely blank, on one occasion I had to remove the battery to end the call! , the keypad is too small to be of much use, & it's very fiddly to enter numbers, on the touch screen it is really easy to touch the wrong number.
I think the general unresponsiveness is due to a very slow processor, which I don't think is up to the job.

It is very fiddly to answer calls, as it has to be stored in a case, otherwise the touch screen is activated, which makes using it a two handed affair all the time.

Mine has been back for repair twice already, but is no better, I think it could be destined for the bin quite soon!

Posted a review on here a while back & gave it some pretty good scores but did pull it up on how it can be fiddly at times.

Now I've had a few months of it I have learnt how to use the phone properly! The photo viewer & gallery, as well as the music player functioning (like skipping from one track to another) was quite disappointing at first, but now I've found that you can view photo's as thumbnails &, also, the touch screen is a lot better than I first thought. You can swipe your finger across the screen to change track or photo.

Am very, very pleased with this phone. It's definitely a phone to strongly consider, it just takes a bit of patience!

P.S. A few people have said that they can't change their message tone. To do it you, SELECT MENU, SETTINGS, PHONE PROFILES (select normal), EDIT (bottom left hand icon), TOGGLE TO MESSAGE (envelope on top tab), MESSAGE ALERT TONE, CHANGE (bottom right), SELECT Use my alert tone, CHOOSE SONG etc.

Right, I own & iPhone & comparing this phone to it is not even a fair test! The iPhone beats it on every level, apart from perhaps Bluetooth.

My mum owns this phone & I have been trying to set it up for her! Keyboard buttons are too hard can no text fast enough. No Wi-Fi function basic on a new phone! & using the phone is a pain! I mean your phone rings. You have to press a button to press the button to answer the phone.

Buy a Soul or iPhone or N95 but no this Samsung!

When the time came to upgrade my phone, it did find it difficult to choose the right mobile for me. Having had a touch screen phone previously (LG Chocolate), I was looking for something stylish yet user friendly. Looking on various sites helped & hindered the process too but I had to decide what I wanted in a phone. Plus, I have had a variety of phones over time & wanted to try something new. I love this phone & I cannot stress that enough. Granted, the touch screen & texting takes time to get use too but that is why the phone has the QWERTY keyboard. Yes it is a bit heavy but that is fine with me. The sales guy was trying to encourage me to have the Samsung F490 & it was a difficult decision between the two but I can safely say that I made the right choice!

The battery seems to last from morning to night if used a lot otherwise 2 days. One thing that I was impressed with when I first got it was the keyboard. Very easy to use, hope you have more look than me as I am swapping mine in the morning.

I read all the reviews on here & most of them are pretty bad so I was very sceptical about getting this phone.

Eventually I did purchase the Samsung F700, & I have not considered regrets since! The buttons work fine, & the keyboard is extremely stylish. The touch screen, well there are no problems & although certain entries disagree, I find the camera to be very usable & the picture quality outstanding!

Plus, there is no doubt that this phone looks trendy, I have not found another person with this phone yet & I have had it for over a month now. Also, my friends were delighted to see it & could not get their hands of it!

Furthermore, people when they first get there phone (including me) are worried that the phone will get boring & they might get annoyed with it, but with me this is not the case!

The QWERTY keyboard looks marvellous, & because I've had Smartphone's for my last 3 phones, I am used to a touch screen.

Going to be strange not using the stylus to text as I use it instead of the physical keys but hey! QWERTY keyboard. Brilliant idea.

I haven't found so far a decent review on its UI & usability. Here goes nothing.

UI is all right, nothing really special. Some things I find ridiculous are, for instance, that you can add a photo to your contacts but when they ring you the photo is not displayed full screen but rather a tiny thumbnail. Really.

Usability is bad too. To send a text you need to tap at least 5 times before you have the information on the composer (never mind the text though). Same goes for events in your calendar, tapping on 'empty' doesn't add an event (as I would've thought) but rather does nothing. Weird.

Overall, it's just a normal phone with a posh case. I hate iPhones, they are just pretentious.

I have had the F700 for four months & still have difficulty navigating its features. This is the first Samsung I have owned & I am disappointed. My other mobile is a Sony Ericsson W950.

The touch screen is not always responsive. This usually happens while using the music player or while accepting a call. Obtaining playback of a track is frustrating, I usually end up using the repeat track function.

The pull out keypad is a good idea for text or email but it is fiddly if you have big fingers.

Finally the software is not very user friendly. As you load the software there is no indication of which stages have been loaded & there is this irritating electronic melody throughout the process. The USB drivers do not appear to be compatible with some plug & play systems. Mine kept coming up with an error code during installation. Three installation disc later & I still have not been able to download music from my laptop using the USB option.

The quality of the music player is only bearable if you use the Bose headset. Use the manufacturers & it is all over.

For text (if you have small fingers) & browsing this handset is OK, for music & other features, check out other mobiles.

I got this phone today, after going into the shop & having a mess about on it, as a lot of the reviews on here had put me off getting it, & to be honest the whole touch screen thing had never really appealed to me!

But after having a mess about it, once I got home. I totally love it! The touch screen is easy to use unlike my Boyfriends, LG Prada! I like the qwerty keyboard makes the phone a bit different, & all round I think it is pretty easy to navigate!

I like the locking feature at the side, & the leather look pouch that came with the phone, will stop it from getting scratched in my bag!

I would take a lot of the reviews on here with a pinch of salt, but obviously everyone is looking for something different, I am glad I went for it regardless of some of the reviews on here!

As for the camera I think it is OK, majority of people have digital cameras nowadays & I think some people expect too much from a phone!

Overall I am really pleased!

I have had this phone a month & I love it.

Everyone that says the camera is bad is wrong, in my opinion it is amazing. You can get different size images depending on whether you have the keyboard out or not & the quality of the pictures when I put them on my laptop was incredible, I'd never seen better ones.

When I bought the phone I was given a month's free Internet which I used to my advantage as I've been busy lately & not had much time to get online to check emails, & facebook seems to work pretty well. Even images are displayed which I was fascinated with.

I didn't realise the phone had been out for so long, but I don't know anyone with it, yet! It's a trend setting phone, several people asked me whether it was a Blackberry & I get people asking me about it all the time.

I really can't get enough of the keyboard, & the smoothness of switching between full touch screen (e.g. When reading a message) & then the keyboard (when typing a reply).

I wouldn't go back to a 12 button phone now.

I think it's quite a feminine phone, especially as you see quite a few American girls on dramas like the Hills & Gossip Girl with phones like this. It's like a mini laptop.

The only thing I can complain about is that when I make a call I have to lock the screen so that my face doesn't press buttons while I am talking & literally, that is the only problem I have had.

To Fubby in the UK, regarding entering numbers during a call, press 1 for customer service, which is awkward. Agree with Fubby about this bit, called Vodafone yesterday & I had to unlock the screen keypad to press one, then wait for the phone to lock the keypad back before I can put my cheek back on it! Otherwise it presses all sorts of numbers since its touch screen, that's why you always need to unlock it when you're in a call before rejecting the call or pressing numbers, but I guess you need that for a touch screen.

Had this phone for 2 days it's been OK so far, touch screen can get a bit annoying, I am finding at times its not responding when I am touching a button & have to really press it hard.

A bit fiddling I have to say, the PC studio that allows you to manage your files on the computer is not that user friendly.

I wouldn't say this is better than Sony Ericsson phones because Samsung phones are not as user friendly. But it looks much better!

Rubbish contracts available for Vodafone on this phone though, so think very carefully when you're getting it. I am on £30 a month free phone but with that kind of deal you can get an equally as good (although not as good LOOKING) phone with O2 400mins & 600 texts or something.

This is one of the phones you have to think very carefully with especially when it's with Vodafone!

Web browsing is good, call quality is excellent. Texting via the key pad is very quick & easy.

Menu is a bit fiddly but getting used to it. Only real issue I've had is entering numbers during a call (I.e. Press 1 for customer service), this can be a bit awkward as you need to reactivate the menu select the number & then enter it (anyone know any different? ).

Build quality is great, it feels very tactile & has the right weight to feel solid but not heavy.

Read a lot of these reviews before a bought the phone as was stuck on whether to get the F700, N95 8GB, Viewty or W960i. Am really glad I got this in the end though.

Some of the reviews are fair e.g. Phone can be a bit fiddly (touch screen can be awkward when been woken up at night or after a few drinks! ) & it is bigger than most normal phones. However, if the phone was any smaller the great touch screen would have been pretty useless. The camera is pretty great considering it's a 3MP although you do have to hold still (most Samsungs are like this). Music player is great & videos or films play great. There is a lack of management resources with this phone but that's why we have computers. It's a phone for phoning or texting people (which the keyboard comes in handy for) with a few added extras.

For listening to music I have got an iPod, for taking pictures a camera, a phone is for calling & texting. End of.

Good really good, got to say. Got it over Xmas, & it's great, not the best, but really good. I hate it when people compare it to the iPhone. All phones are different, all I can say is this has all the features you would expect from a mobile phone, it's great.

I have been using this phone for nearly a month now & I am not that impressed. The touch screen is a pain as when it decides to stop working you have to lock the phone (via a switch at top right) then unlock it to get the screen to accept touch commands. It does work 95% of the time, but that 5% when it doesn't gets to be a bore after a while. The touch vibration is a nice feature though.

The interface is a bit better than the previous Samsung phones I have used, but it still isn't particularly good. Seeing as the interface is one of the most important parts of the phone Samsungs continued lack of development in this area doesn't do this phone any favours. To get around the phone is overly convoluted & poorly thought out which doesn't make using the phone as good as it could have been.

The camera is average. Not at all good if used in low light but produces reasonable results in daylight. The flash is poor & barely does the job it was designed for.

The slide out keyboard on the other hand is excellent but seems a bit limited when there is no document creation app. It is big enough for larger hands & feels comfortable to use.

This is truly awesome, OK it might not be quite as slick as, say the iphone, but it's got more going for it. It's better than the LG Viewty, except for the camera. All round this is top drawer, forget the Apple fan boys, as they can't see nothing but apple products. Samsung f700 wipes the floor with it, I am telling you. My wife got the iphone & she hates it, & she likes apple products, from computers to ipods. But she even admits that the f700 puts the iphone to shame, need I say more, think not.

Awesome phone! Just great! Only ones that can say this phone is bad are iPod fan boys & girls. Camera is also good it gives blurred rarely in my case maybe one in 20 pictures. I would have bought it even without camera, for taking pictures I have something that is created for that purpose it's called DIGITAL CAMERA! Second

Looks great, works fast & reliable my memory card is 80% filled & it works pretty well even when I enter my music or pictures folders that are usually few hundreds of MB. You can get this phone opened (not bound by contract) for all operators, if not in UK look a bit on Internet you can order it online what are 20 Euros for shipping delivery? Great smart apple you can't use anything but their programs which are mostly useless. F700 on the other hand you can install bunch of programs & even thousands more will come! Everything you imagine is possible & already made! Can't play video? Simply download codec! Try that with
I think apples only advantage because it's bigger & has 16 mil colours & F700 has 262k. Who doesn't like black background with blue cross in menus can simply change theme. Well I hope I helped ones that is looking to buy this phone. I can only say BUY it if you don't like it you can give it back so you have nothing to lose.

Well that's about what I had to say about my F700.

Currently I have a Sony Ericsson K810 but I am due an upgrade soon. There isn't really much to choose on the market at the moment but I have had 4 Sony Ericsson phones in a row so I am use to how they work etc. I've got my eye on the F700 but I've been trying to compare that to the W960i. It would be great if someone can give me some valuable points because a lot of people have mixed feelings about each phone. The memory on the Sony is a massive 8GB but what's the memory on this phone? Also I use the camera on my k810i quite often so which phone is better for that perfect snap & is there any flaws which the touch screen technology on the F700 because the W960i load time is meant to be pretty slow. Both phones look very nice so it's a tough choice to make. LOL. Cheers.

I've had this phone a week & I am still loving it. The design is really gorgeous & it looks & feels beautiful. Solid but not heavy, shapely but practical. For those who have said it feels slippery or are annoyed by fingerprints on the back, you should have got an alternative back cover with the phone that is plain plastic so has more grip & won't get marks on.

The touch screen does take a little bit of practise but it is very intuitive & useable once you get scrolling down sorted! The keyboard is also very snazzy & useful but if you don't fancy having it open there is also an onscreen keyboard so you can use one hand for that quick text too!

I was impressed by the camera, after all this is a phone not a camera, yet it takes clear, good quality pictures. (Remember to keep still long enough though) the pictures can fill the whole screen & not look blurred!

The memory space is brilliant, definitely worth it. It would be nice to have had some kind of WordPad or office application so as to be able to use the keyboard to its full advantage & write long notes, essays & transfer them to computer. Easily Bluetoothed across pictures, music etc & they all display & play well.

Calling & ending calls is not at all a hassle, pressing two buttons is simple & these functions mean you don't accidently end a call with your ear or face! I love the way you can set the phone to vibrate slightly when you press 'buttons' on the touch screen so you know you're in the right place

I would really recommend this phone but of course, go check it out in the shop & see if it's for you. For me it's perfect as I love technology but it also has to look good. The f700 definitely looks good, it's so stylish & everyone wants to look & have a play!

Not a bad phone, but does have a few flaws.

The quality of the handset is excellent with a nice solid feel to it. The slide mechanism also appears to be of a good quality. Battery life is rubbish.

The touchscreen is very accurate & even with my big fingers, very usable.

Applications wise, it's not too bad. Samsung could have been a bit more generous with games & included something that wasn't in 60 second demo format. I also think that the Google maps application isn't much cop. It constantly lies & can never get a reasonable fix on my location.

The media player is very good, with a nice easy to use functionality, good sound & good picture quality. I particularly like the finger slide for controlling the volume.

Overall I am very happy with it, particularly after a run of useless Nokia's!

- the keyboard is excellent. The only problem is the accessibility of it.

- No Wi-Fi is a real kick to the teeth. This phone was made for Internet but you can't use for free

- Sound quality is very good. MP3's can be used as ringtones.

- Installing Java applications is almost impossible (as with most Samsung phones)

Didn't really meet my 'iPhone killer' expectations, but still a good phone.

One of the best phones I've ever used & I have a habit of changing phone every 6 months.

It looks great, easy to use, large memory space if you upgrade the micro SD card & more reliable & faster than the iPhone. The media player is fantastic as long as you enable the player to work in the background which looks better & allows you to see the CD picture if added.

Only thing I can fault it for is lack of software & games available for the phone but more should be available in time.

P.S. N95 great phone when it works which isn't very often.

So far this year I have had the following:

- Nokia e65, good in ways but rubbish as a phone.

- Nokia n70, not bad but I couldn't make phone calls as the speaker failed on 10 of the 11 I had.

- Sony Ericsson k770i, just a rubbish phone that shouldn't have been released.

- Sony Ericsson k850i, breaks too easy, too many soft ware faults.

- Finally the Samsung f700, I hate Samsung phones as they are rubbish & I thought this would be the same. I have sold iPhones to so many people & finally it has met its match, I made an 18 year old buy this over the iPhone because it actually works!

If you ask me THIS is the next big thing but Samsung need to keep phones like this coming or I am going to stop selling them all together!

I have now got the phone 4 days & it's a nice phone but it does have its faults. It's a slippery phone, I have nearly dropped it on several occasions as it covered in nice shinny plastic. I think the back cover should have been made of some non slip material. Also, I found when entering my contacts into it, the scroll bar doesn't work very & the X button is too close to the scroll bar so I kept switching back to the front screen.

So, would I recommend it? No.

Some people are never happy, & just want the in gadget for the sake of it. OK this phone isn't perfect, but what phone is, but it's near enough. I have had mine for 6 weeks & it's great. All I can say is if you find it difficult to use, sound poor.

Stop comparing it to the iphone, to start one has a 2mega pix camera other 3, which ones best. One does video recording other doesn't, one sends MMS other doesn't & do I need to carry on. I have had loads of phones, loads, before getting this one I tried out loads, I was even smitten with the iphone, but, after really checking both out went for this one. Like I said it's not perfect, & probably not the best, but every phone is strong in some areas & weaker in other, or we'd all be buying Samsung phone. So if anyone is thinking of getting a new phone, get it. Oh & if you want top notch music then buy an iPod, & same with Internet use a laptop for goodness sake. Make your own mind & don't get drawn into this iphone nonsense, & you won't be disappointed I promise you. Wow outwards breathe now.

Received my Samsung f700 on a works contract on Friday. Must say that when I opened the box I was amazing at how sleek it looks (could even call it sleek). When it powered up I spent the next 40 minutes playing with the touch screen & exploring the features. Those people who have reviewed & said that the touch screen is difficult to use if you have big hands have a fair point. It is easy to push the wrong button & end up in completely the wrong place. The QWERTY keyboard is a nice touch however in my opinion texting was easier on a normal phone keypad.

The camera quality isn't wonderful for a 3 megapixel, but it does take some OK shots. MP3 play back is great & the BOSE headphones make sound quality top notch. The synch software supplied makes transferring files from PC, PHONE nice & easy & the memory card is sufficient to about 250 songs. Video play back is good & I watch a whole movie in good quality. My only major gripe with this phone is when making a call once connected the keypad locks & it is near impossible to end the call.

Overall Samsung have created a great phone if you like showing off to people & enjoy gimmicks but this is in no way an iPhone killer. I own the N95 on my personal contract & the features on that far surpass those on this phone. Nice try Samsung but not quite up to scratch!

Hi, First of all I'd like to say how much I was looking forward to getting this phone. On paper & you tube videos reviews it looks fantastic. My old phone is a Samsung x820 which I love by the way.

How disappointed I was when I found someone had swapped my phone for a black brick, on closer inspection it was actually the phone, a huge massive thing which you tube does not prepare you for & I don't own any pants that will accommodate such a hefty object. Opinion after 10 days use.

Good point.
- QWERTY key pad is ace.
- That's it I am afraid.

Bad points.
- Size & very slippery to handle.
- Screen gets all greased up, it annoyed the hell out of me so touch screen is not for me.
- Answering calls takes 1 switch & 2 buttons presses to answer.
- 3mg camera not 5mg as stated.
- No automatic portrait to landscape when you turn to the side, slide the key board out for this.
- No games, you get demos which you then have to buy.
- Terrible battery life. After fully charged & some more, no more than 2 days, if you're a heavy user this will be considerable less using MP3, email etc.

That's what got my goat with this phone. Looks great, reality it' rubbish. Please DO NOT GET THIS PHONE. I am exchanging for a Nokia E61i wish me luck!

I have had the F700 for about a week now & I think it's the BEST! I have just been reading other peoples negative reviews on the phone & I am wondering if they have actually got an F700 or just don't know how to use it. In some of the reviews people have said,

- No MMS but it does have MMS!

- No video but it does have video!

- No 3G but it does have 3G!

- No pretty display when listening to music but if you feel the need that you have to stare at your phone when listening to music then I guess you have too much time on your hands!

- Sound quality bad but the sound quality is good for a phone, however if you like listening to music I suggest purchasing a HiFi system or iPod!

- Video playback not on full screen bit it does playback on full screen!

- Takes a long time to take a picture but it depends how long it takes you to press a button.

- Keypad lock not easy to use but it has a button that slides up & down, how much more easier can it be?

- Only 5 preset shortcuts when using shortcut button, I think 5 shortcuts is enough considering it is supposed to be a SHORTcut, you might as well use the main menu!

- Weighs a tonne but it's a mobile telephone not a bar of gold. How heavy can a phone be unless operated by poppa smurf!

- QWERTY keypad takes too long to text but with a QWERTY keypad you press the s button once & the letter s magically appears on the screen, with a normal button phone you have to press the number 7 button four times to make the letter s appear! Call me stupid but this takes me less time than with a normal phone!

- Keep dropping the phone, if you are clumsy enough to keep dropping your phone then I suggest you purchase the new indestructible JCB phone!

If you ask me some people will moan about anything! I think this is a brilliant phone & would definitely recommend it, & if you don't like it you have got 14 days to change your mind anyway so it's not the end of the world like some of the people have reviewed.

Obviously this phone isn't perfect like when you end a call you have to press a number of buttons & the battery life isn't amazing but overall is a really good phone & much better than my previous Nokia N95 & Sony Ericsson w810i!

Thanks for listening, I am here all week! LOL!

Hi all, here are my views on the F700 for what they are worth. Please note if it does not make perfect sense in some places I have actually cut & pasted it from an email I sent to a chap that was interested in getting this phone.

It's quite lengthy so if you can't be bothered to read it let me just say this. DO NOT GET the F700.

Let me just say that I usually spend a lot of time choosing a phone, especially now the best deals are restricted to 18 month contracts.

I have to say that I wanted the iphone pretty badly when I first seen it. After playing with it for 5 minutes I was in love with it. However after reading the specs. & reviews I was slightly put off. No video, no MMS, no 3G & various other stuff together with a hefty price tag got me looking else where.

I came across the F700 a few months ago & it looked to be an excellent alternative to the iphone. It had better specs & was free; with a set of Bose headphones thrown in it looks irresistible.

Until just recently there were no concrete specs on the phone. Every website was listing it with incorrect old specs; 5 mega cam, 3.5GB memory plus more.

I changed to Vodafone to specifically get this phone.

Main reasons for wanting this phone were,

1) Glorious big touchscreen.
2) 3.6 Mbps connection.
3) Emailing using a QWERTY keyboard.
3) Its touted as a 'smart phone'

With the big screen I thought the applications would look & feel wonderful. MP3's would be a joy & video would be excellent. Not to mention the cam. Although only 3.2 mp (previous phone was Nokia N80 with same spec cam & was more than happy with it) I thought technology would have moved on a bit & the camera & video would compliment the big screen.

The truth is that the screen is completely wasted on this phone.

The MP3 player is the worst I have ever experienced. Given that the screen is so big & that the phone has won awards for its 'croisse interface' I was looking forward to music & video. The MP3 screen is very basic. You might expect to see a nice big picture of the album cover; no, instead you get a tiny picture in the top corner & only if you choose to listen by selecting albums.
The screen is just a big black empty screen with a giant blue cross that does not work particularly well.

You can swipe the screen to go to next track or previous but that's about it.

You can not simply minimise the MP3 screen & use other applications. Instead you get to choose the ability to listen in the background which seems OK at first but it just don't seem to work well at all.

The sound from the speaker is also the worst I have ever heard; music or hands-free speech are very poor through the speaker.

The audio output level to the headphones is very low also.

I tried over 30 video clips on the phone & not one of them would play full screen. Most of the clips were MP4 or 3GP, I could not get a WMV to work.

The camera is very slow from the time you press autofocus to actually getting a picture saved. I know cam phones are always slow but you have to keep the phone still for about 5 seconds after pressing the take picture button otherwise you end up with a blur.

It's virtually impossible to take a picture of something moving & catch the right moment.

Making/taking a simple phone call will drive you insane. The iphone has a proximity detector that can tell when you put it to your ear. The F700 simply locks the touchscreen, sounds OK but is dreadful in operation.

Also the F700 screen is locked via a mechanical switch on the side & it must be looked before putting in pocket as you get all sorts happening. Again this switch is not user friendly at all. Yeah it's just a flick of a switch but in practice it works very poorly.

The memory is only 100MB. I complained that the phone was advertised by Vodafone as 4GB expandable. This to me said it was a 4GB phone that was further expandable. The Vodafone Rep. Agreed & said they had many queries on this. He agreed to send me a free 4GB card.
Once the card was more that half full the phone slowed down. Browsing through tracks, albums, videos & pictures was a slow painful experience.

The Internet was not a particularly good experience either. If you save a book mark it simply goes into a list of bookmarks. You scroll through these books marks & choose the one you want. This is very very poor. The window for scrolling through is a quarter of the screen size available. The rest of the screen is pretty redundant. It's very difficult to quickly find a book mark if you have dozens of them.

Another gripe is that in the Internet mode you can not change to widescreen view unless you slide the keyboard open (as in most of the applications other than video).

It is also very hard to choose some of the content on screen by tapping the screen as it is so small.

I tried the Musicstation application as it's free for a month. Overall I think it's very good if you like your music. You can find pretty much anything & it even downloads the cover. However, you must be connected via 3G to listen (even when you have already downloaded the track). This means that no one can get through to you call wise. Also you can not use any other function of the phone whilst using Musicstation, this is very restricting. Also you can not listen via Bluetooth which is a problem for me as I stream my music to my car stereo. As far as I know unlimited really does mean unlimited when downloading via Musicstaion. I was impressed at first with the speed of the downloads; then I found out that the vast majority of the tracks are under 1MB. Tracks were taking between 30 to 60 seconds each which does not sound that bad & is livable with. When you see that using 3.6Mbps connection they should take no longer than 5-10 seconds (according to other sources I have checked) you kind of feel a bit cheated.

There is very little customisation available. There are no themes & the only thing you can change is the background picture.

There is a shortcut menu that has 5 preset shortcuts that also can not be changed or added to.

This phone is by no means a smartphone. There is no way to add any 3rd party applications. Check the list of stuff available for the Sony & Nokia Symbian phone. If you look in the right places you can download all of these applications for free (including the excellent Tom Tom).

My girlfriends Samsung G600 has far more menu's & options that the F700. This is one of the reasons I went for it; thinking that the F700 would be far superior. Its not.

My best advice would be to try the Viewty, W960i & F700 in store (the viewty is not available from Vodafone).

The reason I did not get the viewty is that a friend had the prada phone & it felt very light & toy like. Also I did not want to have to use a stylus only. Having seen the phone since I got the F700 I was going to get one as you can use fingers (check out the Viewty on the LG website. Sorry I don't have links to hand.

Vodafone have been very good to me as it is well outside of the 14 day trial period they do. This is why I have decided to go for the W960i rather than cancelling & going to another provider for the Viewty.

I think I would still go for the W960i as it has the best Walkman functions of any phone & most stand alone MP3 players (apparently).

I have had this phone for just under two weeks, I hate it so much that I have just asked to switch it with my provider!

The idea behind the phone is fab, at first look, it is sleek & stylish, funky touch screen etc

However, it weighs a tonne & is large & cumbersome! Both hands are needed to text & as it lacks a standard key pad. QWERTY key pad not really practical for a quick text & the touch screen version just takes too long!

After the first few days I found myself wanting to put my chip back into my old Sony, just so I could use a normal phone! Great if you want it as a multimedia device, but not for phone 1st.

Camera blurs, I expected much more from it & I took it out on Xmas eve thinking I wouldn't need a camera, sadly I now just have random blurred pics!

Is good for the Internet, but even then can be difficult to use the touch screen.

Finally, I am surprised by the lack of changes that can be made to the phone, no moving wallpapers etc, maybe this phone is aimed more for guys (although how they would navigate the touch screen text option with bigger fingers I don't know! ) But as a girl I want more features to play with & customise :O)

As soon as I got it out of the box my boyfriend nic, named it the brick. Need I say more?

I have had this phone under a day, I have always had Sony's but I though this look cool so I would give it a go. It was the worst mistake I have ever made, it's the worst phone I have ever owned, looks really cool but rubbish to use:

Good points:

- Design
- QWERTY keyboard
- Touch-screen

Bad points:

- Slow
- Rubbish interface
- Camera is atrocious (worst 3MP I have ever seen)
- Battery life is less than a day
- I never got the Bose head phones

Over all:

The worst phone I have ever owned, I strongly suggest to every one out there who is thinking about getting one do not get it! Go for some thing like the n95 8GB which I was I am getting instead of this phone, it has now gone back after 2 days of owner ship.

A major let down!

Got this phone on Friday & have had it for the weekend. Must confess playing with it a lot & now finding some more intuitive, although, seems a little less so than my previous Motorola V3i, but will persevere.

Seems conflicting info on some of the features, camera is only 3MP though & you have to hold the button until the centre goes green for focus, then further depress, to get an image. Usually works OK when I try this, although before reading this in the manual I thought it was broken, as all images were very blurred!

Got a 4GB card from the store, so enough memory for most of my use. I wanted a phone/camera/MP3 in one, rather than having to carry them separately, so although bigger than last phone, saves pocket space ultimately.

Bose headphones are better than most & seem better than the ones I got with my Sony Walkman MP3, an added bonus.

Texting is a breeze with the keyboard, which I love to use, although others' comments on sometimes missing touch-screen icons is valid, but I am getting better at accuracy. Those with thick finger tips beware though!

I do not understand those that have bought this phone complaining AFTER the event about its size etc, did you not try it in the shop or see measurements in the spec before ordering online, just a thought.

I just hope the negatives noted by some do not turn out to be the case (reliability etc) as so far I like it. Not perfect, but pretty good for what is still a new-ish technology in touch screen phone/camera/ipod type stuff!

Having bought an iPhone for myself recently, I upgraded my wife's phone to the F700 a few days ago.

What a mistake. This phone has been compared to the iPhone in many ways. However, we have been very disappointed by the product. It is flimsy, counter-intuitive (how the hell do I hang up a call, oh goodness I am running up minutes here while I try & find out!), & well, rubbish really. The touch screen is useless compared to the iPhone's. Oh, & it's slipped out of my hands again (another common criticism it seems).

I admit that I am a fan of all Apple products (oh yes, & the F700 will NOT connect to any Mac for MP3 downloads), & I also admit they are expensive. However my wife summed it all up when she held the F700 in one hand & the iPhone in the other. 'It's like comparing a Hyundai with a Porsche'.

I'll be at the Post Office at 0900 tomorrow to send this piece of nastiness back to Vodafone.

Don't do it! Look elsewhere. & if you think this is an iPhone substitute (as I admit I did) take my advice, save up, & get the real thing. You have been warned!

Got this phone on a new Vodafone contract after being with Orange for 3 years.

When I first opened the box I was stunned by the way it looks, it feels very well made, & although it's heavy, it fits comfortably in my hand.

The camera takes decent pictures & the quality is far better than what I was expecting after reading some many bad reviews about it.

The touch screen is going to take some time to get used to, keep hitting the wrong button & it takes me ages to type a message out (won't use the keyboard, pointless when it's a touch screen!).

The phone comes with everything you need & more & the FREE Bose in-ear headphones are superb, plus you get a FREE 1GB memory card!

Easily beats the iPhone, maybe not in terms of looks, but definitely in specs & features.

I recently bought this phone & I couldn't be more pleased with it! I do however agree on the comments on the camera, as the slow shutter settings can cause pictures to be blurred but I have not yet had this problem myself. I didn't buy the phone just for the camera anyway, that is what I own a digital camera for.

Also, the touch screen can sometimes be difficult to use, mainly when I am trying to scroll down the menus & this definitely would cause problems for those with larger hands, a stylus would largely benefit this phone although they are cheap to buy anyway.

However I strongly disagree with the comments on it being hard to change the settings of some of the features, I have not yet have to get out my user manual & have already turned the vibrations off, as they became annoying, & I have changed the font size, these were both listed under the settings menu, as on every other phone I have ever used.

Overall, this phone is of very good quality, there still is room for improvement but the Qwerty keyboard makes texting & entering data easy & although it is larger than a lot of the other phones on the market the large screen makes using it easy & it does make it look impressive. I also like the spare back it came with, the sound quality is good & the free headphones are a bonus! The novelty factor of having a touch screen phone is yet to wear off & despite the other comments I would recommend this phone to people.

Sorry for the essay, but I hope I have helped!

Had this phone about a month now & although it looks good, it is nowhere near an iPhone killer. Texting is really easy with the slide out keyboard, however using the touch screen is touch & go.

The worst part about this phone is the camera. It may have a 3 Megapixel camera on it, however it has no anti shake. So unless you are standing with a VERY steady hand you are going to get a fuzzy image which is completely useless. If you are not fussed about the camera then it's not bad but if you want to take anything close to a clear picture avoid this at all costs.

Hi all, I think this phone is great. I had a mix up & two got sent to me from Vodafone. But had to send the first one back as was the wrong IMEI number.

Anyway to me there was something wrong with the first one, the camera took ages to start up & the volume of the ringtone/sms was very low & was missing calls. Anyway had to package it up anyway.

The second one works much better the camera comes on within 2 seconds & even if the low light pictures on the camera look rough when you are lining them up, once the are taken they are good & to me the first phone was slow & bad quality.

Just converted a movie to MP4 with an ipod converter & popped it on the micro SD & playback is mint DVD quality, the bose headphones are excellent, even though the menu colours etc can't be changed, it's fine.

Really love this phone.

Got one on these on an upgrade from Vodafone, but find that it won't sync with outlook, just get a 'syncronisation failed' error message. Have tried both a laptop & desk top & had same probs with both (both on XP & Outlook 2002 sp3).

Vodafone say can't help, try Samsung (0870 number) & Samsung say they know there are a few problems but it's rare, &/but they are planning on an update for PC studio, but don't know when & anyway problem might be Vodafone's firmware. Good, huh?

In short none of then are prepared to do anything about it. So not impressed with a phone from two major companies that can't do the basics & which they won't sort out. Camera's rubbish (appears to have no anti shake), & the modem won't work either.

So would strongly recommend against this phone & Vodafone/Samsung generally. Pity because the screen & QWERTY kbd are great, but as package it appears virtually useless & support is non-existent.

Has anyone else had this problem, or found a solution?

Ps. Also had the same problems with answering calls & general chunkiness reported elsewhere here.

The reception is average, not the best but not the worst either. The camera is rubbish I've tried all settings & I hate it, it has a slow shutter speed & you have a 50-50 chance of getting a blurry picture. If anyone can help with a solution that would be great.

Can't comment on the Internet yet but I am hoping it's good or if bad can be improved.

The sound quality is great & it comes with a 1GB card which can be upgraded to an 8GB which is good for music.

HAD THIS PHONE JUST UNDER TWO WEEKS. CERTAIN MUSIC TRACKS the SPEAKERS WOULD POP & CRACKLE. I WENT INTO the Vodafone STORE & THEY TRANSFERRED the TRACK TO ONE OF THEIR SAMSUNG F700 PHONES IN STORE, & the TRACK PLAYED the SAME. YET the SAME TRACK WAS PLAYED ON OTHER VARIOUS PHONES & IT WAS OK. I THOUGHT the QWERTY KEYBOARD WAS OK, BUT IF YOU HAVE LARGE FINGERS, THIS COULD BE A BIG PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE, AS YOU CAN GET the QWERTY KEYBOARD ON the TOUCH SCREEN. THIS PHONE IS EXCLUSIVE TO Vodafone, WHICH I ALSO FOUND AS A PROBLEM, AS the COVERAGE WAS POOR, ESPECIALLY AT MY WORK PLACE. WHEN USING the TOUCH SCREEN, SOMETIMES YOU THINK YOU HAVE HIT the RIGHT KEY, YET A DIFFERENT ONE IS PRESSED, FRUSTRATING SOMETIMES. I HAVE SENT MY PHONE BACK NOW. & I HAVE DECIDED TO GO FOR the LG VIEWTY, WHICH IS ALSO A TOUCH SCREEN, & FOR THOSE WITH LARGER FINGERS IT IS EASY AS IT COMES WITH A STYLUS. BUT YOU CAN USE YOUR FINGERS ON the TOUCH SCREEN IF YOU WISH. I SHOULD GET MINE ON MONDAY.

My impression so far is that this phone is rubbish. It is really difficult to hit the right touch key. Camera is only 3MP. I can't find the T9 text facility. Manual entry of contacts is clunky. Synchronisation with outlook is still with only the main folder so I can't keep my personal & work contacts in separate folders on outlook if I want to synchronise with the phone. The real killer though is the browser. Supposedly HTML but everything is messed up on the sites I have looked at. I accepted that it would not support plug in's but it is virtually useless in its current state. I am going to call tech support tomorrow & give it a couple of days to get used to it. I think the phone looks nice, but that's it for the good features. The Qwerty keyboard is tricky as the buttons are so much smaller than the users finger tips! The same can be said for the on-screen touch sensitive keyboard, except that's even worse! When you are talking to someone, your cheek presses on the screen, causing loss of hearing to the person you are speaking to!

I had this phone for 4 days before I arranged a swap with Vodafone. The battery life was also poor, having to recharge it every other day. This is probably due to the additional vibrations the screen makes when you press a key. It is also quite slow when moving from one application to another. With regards to games, it only has 60 second demo's loaded, but when you go online to purchase one, you get an error message saying 'there are no compatible games for this device' so don't think you can play games with this phone!

It is trying to be too technical & fussy, you get the feeling it has been rushed? I've swapped it for another Samsung, as usually these are fantastic phones, but one a bit less shouty & obnoxious!

Well all this hype had it a week. Touch screen is easy to use & everyone wants a play on it. Too fiddly answering & ending calls as you have to unlock slide & open hidden keys why not make this easier?

Texting is OK touch screen is good but be patient if you have big thumbs! The qwerty keyboard is effective & looks the business when your texting.

All menus are top notch & easy to follow & I love the vibtonz when you touch the screen, oh & the different vibrating patterns you can use!

Only downside is the 3MP camera, Samsung. It is close to useless a slight movement & it blurs & when the light comes on you have to try hold it still for 5 seconds impossible, so all this with a shoddy camera what a waste mines going back I want total package & the camera which is so important these days (no need for camera & a phone) the Samsung can't deliver. To be honest I am still not sure if I am going to hang onto it or not. Although on the large side it's not over heavy & sits in the hand quite well. The touch screen interface works really well & navigating through menu choices is easy. The camera seems poor to me for a 3 MP. It's nowhere near as good as the one on my K800i. MP3 player is O.K but Sony Ericsson still have the edge for sound in my opinion. The best feature for me is the large touch screen & touch navigation.

If only Samsung had matched Sony's camera & sound then the F700 would be a true iPhone Killer. May still wait for the W960i?

Like A Doughty from UK & Paul Hopkins from Southampton, UK, I had this phone a few days & although a novelty with the touch screen & sleek looking, it really doesn't appear to have been road tested properly. I like the phone, I won't be sending it back, but I'll be hoping for a firmware upgrade soon.

The F700 lacks an intuitive menu structure & it takes too many key strokes to get to anything on this phone. To select a text message & call that person takes 7 key presses.

Although the QWERTY keypad helps a lot with typing & web navigation, I have to use it when the touch screen doesn't offer what I would think would be necessary. It's not a novelty, it is integral to using the phone, so you'll be popping it open a lot more often than you may imagine.

The front menu gives you 3 ways to make a phone call, firstly the menu page in order to navigate to contacts, secondly a key pad to dial a number, thirdly a standard selection of made, received or missed calls. Hitting a contacts list & dial would be easier. The contacts list itself has no keypad so you must pull out the QWERTY in order to type a name, or wait ages to scroll through the randomly sensitive & sluggish scroll menu.

Short cut keys simply shortcut to a specific page in an application structure. You can't then move up or down in a directory for example, only go back to the main menu & then navigate your way back into where you really want to be. (E.g. Shortcut to the music player takes you to the play screen. To change track, you have to quit back to the main menu & then navigate through all the menu pages to select a new music folder & then play the track. This page is only one step away from the original shortcut).

The music player is hugely underdeveloped. Tracks are listed & played alphabetically, not in track order, there are no track skip buttons, using the skip 'slide finger over the screen' function rarely works & generally fast forwards the track or alters the volume. This needs an obvious next, play, pause, stop menu system. Selecting the play in background function allows you to navigate through the phone without turning off the music playback. A small window appears at the bottom of the screen which is great until you actually want to get rid of it.

Importing numbers & contacts was a problem. The file system appears to be incompatible with outlook & the numbers on my SIM stored on a Sony Ericsson were stored last name first name 1' which meant all 160 odd had to be manually edited.

Setting up the phone there are a number of configurable options but again you need time & patience to find out where they are. The manual is pretty bad for pointing you in the right direction. For example, the phone comes with a default setting that makes the phone beep & vibrate for EVERY button press. EVERY PRESS? Why? Annoying & took a fair amount of searching to discover how to turn it off.

The camera simply isn't that good. Outside with a steady hand you'll get a useable shot, but inside, or in the pub, you're going to have to work hard to not get a blurry shot. The zoom is dependent on chosen image resolution size, if you go for maximum image size resolution, you get no zoom. Choose a smaller image size & then you can zoom. Cheap trick but a standard trick.

Viewing the picture. Again, 5 presses to get a picture up on screen, & then another to get a really useful scroll preview pane. I like this scroll pane, but as soon as you select your image, it automatically disappears. You have to manually open it every time. Why can't it stay until you close it?

Games are all demos. Not too bothered myself.

Internet is easy to use, straight forward & looks pretty good.

It's just not straight forward. It should be.

Got this phone on the day it came out & I loved the look of it! Its takes a little getting used to especially after using push keys on previous phones but once you got used to it what a phone, touch screen, pull out keyboard, music player, Internet, email, 3 megapixel camera, free 1GB memory card & top quality head phones, all you need, yes you can't send a text with one hand or answer a call in under 2 clicks but that doesn't mean it's a rubbish phone, Samsung have thought because it's a touch screen they don't want us answer calls in our pockets that's why it's got the security features & it's always quicker sending a text with two hands rather than one hand.

Really happy with it & can't wait for Samsung to bring out there next touch screen phone in the future.

I persevered with this phone but in the end it goes back for the following reasons.

- It's slippery & I was in constant fear of dropping it.
- To answer an incoming call you have to unlock using the slide button, then press the soft key before pressing the accept button on the touch screen.
- It would not synchronise with outlook. I contacted Vodafone who suggested speaking direct to Samsung. The answer they gave was that Samsung phones would not synchronise with Outlook 2003.
- Vodafone advertised it with a radio, it hasn't got one.
- the touch screen was dependant on the moisture on my fingers e.g. When dry I was having to repeat the touch & when damp it was really sensitive to the point that if you accidentally brushed elsewhere the touch screen would activate. This is a big mobile & could probably benefit from a stylus.
- Sound quality of calls was poor.

The positives were.

- the slide out keyboard was easy to use for texting.
- the music player was fun although I had it on shuffle but it didn't appear to be shuffling.
- the camera was of good quality.

I was looking forward to owning this phone but it was a big disappointment.

I am sorry, but I've had mine for 3 days now & I found it wasn't as useable as my Blackberry. There is no easy way to answer the phone, the MP3 player didn't have many editable settings, I found it extremely difficult to get a decent, sharp picture out of it & the email settings that Vodafone sent to my handset didn't work. I know I am on my own here, but I just didn't like it.

I got mine today, couldn't decide between this & the viewty but when I had a play around with this my mind was made up. This phone has so much to offer & has so many great features. It is in a way the iPhone with a Samsung design & of course the fact that it is soo much better. The touch screen isn't as fiddly & is easy to use, the texting is so much easier with the keyboard & does make it a lot faster. The Internet speed is amazing so much faster then the iPhone & of course the great Bose headphones you get with it!

I really do think this phone is the best around & would recommend it!

I really looked forwarded to this phones, I-phone beating capabilities. At first I was disappointed with features such as the camera's lack of movement support. The slightest movement results in a blurred image.

But after a week living with this phone I am beginning to fall in love with it. Every body comments on it & wants to play with it. It is not a phone for a shrinking Violet, this baby WILL get you noticed!

As a phone the calls are clear although it does take a while to get used to the user interface for answering a call & hanging up.

The new Google map feature makes up for the lack of GPS & works brilliantly & is quick enough for browsing despite not living up to the initial assumptions. Also the Bluetooth headset compatibility gives it another advantage over the I-phone.

Overall this phone will not disappoint. It is a very very good touch screen phone. Possibly the best all-rounder. There are better for camera & there are better for Internet (blackberry as an example) but as an all-rounder nothing on the market can touch it.

Go & order one today. I guarantee your friends will want one!

The I-Pone is for Apple Fan boys. This is the Phone for the people who want all the latest features but to have something that is high end also & not sell out.

I can't believe there are so many people reviewing this who have read the specifications & never actually used the phone! I have used the phone. Vodafone had it this week & I needed to get a phone with good PDA functionality. THIS IS NOT IT!

In fact, for the extra weight I can't see what this phone has to offer, OK it has a keyboard & a large touch screen. However, the software is the same old Samsung system with a few new icons & noises layered over it.

Right out of the box I hooked it up to my PC, installed with the Samsung software & synchronised it to outlook. 800 contacts & my diary. This took nearly 30 minutes. OK, first time it needs to load it all up. However, it cuts many data fields short & my diary was missing the location of all the appointments. Plus the diary caps out at 300 appointments (even with a 1GB memory card).

This CAN'T have been road tested by any business user to fail so quickly. I want a phone that does what it says on the tin & this isn't it. I will keep on looking. PS I took it back in under 24 hours.

Was going to get the iPhone when Vodafone were earmarked for the exclusivity deal so opted this week for their own touch screen version the long awaited Samsung F700. Its going back & these are the reasons.

- Rubbish battery life. Full charge at 9am in the morning & used the phone quite a bit setting it up, adjusting contact details, setting up appointments etc & it was dead by 6pm! The next day it had one bar left by 8pm with less use but on neither day did I use the Internet or the music player, camera, if I had done it would have lasted even less.

- Receiving calls, 3 key strokes to answer a call (same as iPhone I believe) 1st to unlock phone (99% of the time), 2nd to press the menu button at the bottom which then enables you to accept or reject the call. The other option of auto answer means you don't hear any ring tone so you don't know you have a call!

- Size of text, so large you don't get that many last dialled numbers on one screen before you have to scroll down.

- Inflexible calendar, end date defaults to today's date rather than start date. No appointments appear on the front screen. Holidays have no end date!

- Poor navigation, not easy to get around to create a simple text or redial someone, no side buttons or icons on front page & it's all down via the menus.

- It's impossible to do anything with one hand like a quick text.

- Its large & heavy & I will need to have reinforced pockets.

There are plus points but these minuses make this phone a big no no for me & I am now on the lookout for a new phone but its back to my Pearl for now.

Wow, coolest phone I have ever seen! Just arrived today (free upgrade on contract) & have played with it until battery ran out!

Interface is very cool & easy to use. Texting is super fast using onscreen keyboard, much easier that normal buttons & actually quicker than the slide out QWERTY keypad. Camera is 3.0 not 5.0 megapixels but still takes excellent photos (especially after you remember to take protective clear film off! ) Music playback is good, haven't tried headphones yet. Transferring music & pics onto included SD card was dead easy using card reader on laptop. Would be nice if phone changed between portrait to landscape automatically when you turn it over like in the iPhone Ad! Turns when you click a button or slide out keypad.

All features are very easy to use. Games are only demo versions which is a bit stingy & no preloaded videos like the iPhone.

I gave features 95% because no Wi-Fi which would have made it superb especially as I can't get 3G.

Got mine yesterday, it's going back tomorrow! It's not bad, it's just not as great as I expected. GUI is mostly very nice to use, especially when playing music or video but can be tricky when navigating menu's with the keyboard out as you can't see enough of the menu when it's sideways. Camera is poor indoors. Reception is terrible, no signal at work at all where my previous phone had 3 bars out of 6.

Touch screen works very well most of the time. Battery life seems to be good under normal use. For some reason, Samsung have moved away from the traditional predictive text & gone for the same T9 input that Motorola use & I've always detested. Feels relatively good build quality (better than my Nokia N80) but not as solid as the D600 & D900. Vibration unit is very weak, expect to miss a lot of calls if it's on vibrate in your pocket in a noisy environment.

Overall, pretty good, better than the iPhone but I think the LG Viewty beats it.

Got my F700 today (so I have one unlike most of the reviews on here) there's no denying it looks amazing & is a decent size that fits nicely in the hand. It feels well made, but then it is a Samsung. The touch screen is sensitive & quick & the buttons are a good size so there isn't too many incidents of pressing the wrong bit of the screen. The QWERTY is great but you can text via a touch screen alpha/numeric keypad also. The camera is a 3MP & is OK but the flash isn't as good as I had hoped, although it takes pretty good pictures. However if you want a good phone for pictures, go for the Sony cyber shot phones or even the Nokia N95, that has a great 5 MP camera. (I got one of those too). The software is quick which is important because my N95 can't keep up with me which is frustrating, but no such problems here. Is it an I Phone killer? Well having tried them both I'll have to say. Maybe. It depends what you want. Personally I'll keep the Samsung as I have an ipod touch for my music & movies. & the Samsung is a better phone & has a better camera.

Overall this is a great handset, Looks great, has plenty of features, & battery life is good too. If you want a sleek phone go for this. If you want an I Phone, get the Samsung then spend the money on the ipod touch. Best of both worlds!

The Samsung F700 is available in the Vodafone high street stores right now (so you can go & have a play), & is available online from 03/12/07.

Having had a go in the store today I can confirm it is way better than the iPhone in every way except that it has a lower onboard memory (but the micro SD card can currently be upgraded to 6GB (or even 8GB or 16GB once they are available) & it is thicker than the iPhone (it is a fairly large handset). These are the only two reasons it scored lower for features & design.

If you are like me & find texting a pain you will love the QWERTY keyboard. So much faster than conventional text input. Also when you pull the keyboard out you can use the phone in widescreen, great for viewing websites & writing emails.

The Croix interface works really well. It is very flashy & will really impress. It is a completely different way to navigate than the iPhone but it is definitely just as cool.

The 3MP camera produced some great shots when I tried it in the shop with the flash. Should be even better outside on a bright day. Didn't try the video.

The phone comes with some £80 Bose headphones by the way which sound really great.

I also compared it will a LG Viewty. The Viewty was thinner & had a better camera (5MP), but it just didn't have that 'cool' factor. It also felt like if you dropped it then the case would definitely break. After removing the back cover you realise just how thin the casing is (unlike the F700 which felt like it could probably survive being dropped a dozen times.

Hope this helps! :-D

I got the phone 2 days ago with Vodafone subscription & like it very much. The touch screen works perfectly, easy to select controls, drag-n-drop, scroll. My subscription includes Internet unlimited, so I spent last 2 days browsing the web. The full keyboard feature helps with this a lot, easy to type addresses & search phrases. Zooming web pages is a nice feature too, even the screen size is only 432x240 pixels, you can zoom out the page, so it will look like on 800x600 screen, though the small letters are impossible to read, but good enough for the whole view & see the pictures to click on. You can also zoom in on small text. Finger click works surprisingly well even on small web-buttons (much smaller that fingerprint), though I had some problems selecting small radio-buttons (I had to zoom in on such controls).

The download speed is pretty good, possible to load pages with a lot of pictures in reasonable time (optimized mobile pages work even faster).

So far I couldn't find any problems with the phone & very happy for picking up this model.

Will only keep it's score if it keeps all its features, doesn't get any bigger & the battery doesn't die in an hour! Currently I have a Vario 2 (HTC Tytn) & love the QWERTY keyboard, touch screen, proper media player & connectivity (Wi-Fi, HSPDA etc! ) What I don't like about it is its bulkiness & it's absolutely atrocious camera & the F700 SEEMS to solve these 2 issues.

I'll be first in line for one of these as long as none of the features suffer from stupid design faults or lack of investment & (HTC's Camera's, Nokia's processors) this could be the all in one solution if done correctly PLEASE Samsung make everything work properly & you'll eat the iPhone alive!

Just as a little extra something ALL manufacturers should listen to A few simple things the consumer really wants (I.e. I hear all the time) but companies seem to miss one or add a useless quirky feature instead.

- A SMOOTH easy to use menu.
- A 3.5mm Jack plug so we can use PROPER headphones not the 99p rubbish provided making them useless outdoors/on the tube.
- HSPDA with a proper web browser.
- 5+ mega pixel camera with easy to use software to back it up & ease of Quick shots.
- Decent Battery life (or a solar cell to keep it topped when dormant).
- Touch Screen capable of being used by fingers!
- Access to company Push email.
- Mini USB (on top of all the wireless interfaces).

This looks like a really good phone & would possibly look at having it as my next phone, although I haven't seen it for real yet. Still bit unsure about the touch screen thing as I know loads of people with touch screen phones that are dead sensitive & turn themselves off when you are talking Hmmm.

I have rated it 75% because the write up sounds amazing, just got to see the real thing now! Any definite dates for release in the UK?

I am in love with this phone. Haven't seen it in real life but have Googled & youtubed it. It beats all the other QWERTY phones such as the side kick. Hopefully this phone will be available in Hong Kong soon, I need to get my hands on it!

I can't really rate a phone that is not available but anyway I've just looked on a website & it says this phone will be in stock on 29th August. Hopefully thats the set date!

Looks a great phone although seems to be lacking wi-fi which would be even better. By the way CPW has listed it on coming soon phones so shouldn't be to far away.

Cannot rate a non-existent phone. When it makes an appearance then ratings will have substance. It got 5% because this survey will not allow nil.

The design is great. Touch screen, even better. But does it come with a stylus? & what exactly are its touch screen features? A stylus would come in handy if the touch screen icons were small, & judging from the images I've seen on the net & the overall size of the screen itself, they do appear to be small.

Then again, when exactly is the release date? I read from another review site that it was set for June 2007. If so, where are the primary areas/countries that it was released in & when will this phone get to the middle east & a question to the Internet use of this phone, since I am not all that well-versed when it comes to things like these, does the Samsung f700 have wi-fi capabilities, because it wasn't listed on the review.

I would love a more in-depth review of this phone :) thanks! Alternatives would also be great if you know any.

Does anyone know whether this phone supports push email (sync to Exchange server)? Or any other phone that combines 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0, Exchange sync? QWERTY would be a nice to have, but the first 3 are essential to me.

Just to finish being picky, this is about the largest handset I'd be prepared to accept, so smaller would be better ;)
