Hi all, I have been watching the hills & gossip girls & I really want this phone I just love it. I have found it on contract for £25 per month for 500 minutes unlimited texts wicked! I have wanted this phone the first time I have ever saw it.
Must say I have read all the reviews on here & some people are very sceptical, not every phone is for everyone. Just hope I get it soon.

Ordered this little beauty after a week of thought iPhone or F700. I prefer the iPod touch to the iphone in every way except the speaker & phone part :).
The QWERTY keyboard looks marvellous, & because I've had Smartphone's for my last 3 phones, I am used to a touch screen.
Going to be strange not using the stylus to text as I use it instead of the physical keys but hey! QWERTY keyboard. Brilliant idea.
Will review with great thought in about a week, Ratings based on expectation.

I haven't found so far a decent review on its UI & usability. Here goes nothing.
UI is all right, nothing really special. Some things I find ridiculous are, for instance, that you can add a photo to your contacts but when they ring you the photo is not displayed full screen but rather a tiny thumbnail. Really.
Usability is bad too. To send a text you need to tap at least 5 times before you have the information on the composer (never mind the text though). Same goes for events in your calendar, tapping on 'empty' doesn't add an event (as I would've thought) but rather does nothing. Weird.
Overall, it's just a normal phone with a posh case. I hate iPhones, they are just pretentious.

I am awaiting delivery of the F700 & I am so excited. Always look at reviews before the purchase & there are quite a few negative ones on here, but you show me a phone that everyone likes (not one out there last time I looked).
Have always used Sony phones but when I caught an eye full of this there was only one phone for me.
Will add more later when I have had the pleasure of using the phone for a couple of days.

I have had the F700 for four months & still have difficulty navigating its features. This is the first Samsung I have owned & I am disappointed. My other mobile is a Sony Ericsson W950.
The touch screen is not always responsive. This usually happens while using the music player or while accepting a call. Obtaining playback of a track is frustrating, I usually end up using the repeat track function.
The pull out keypad is a good idea for text or email but it is fiddly if you have big fingers.
Finally the software is not very user friendly. As you load the software there is no indication of which stages have been loaded & there is this irritating electronic melody throughout the process. The USB drivers do not appear to be compatible with some plug & play systems. Mine kept coming up with an error code during installation. Three installation disc later & I still have not been able to download music from my laptop using the USB option.
The quality of the music player is only bearable if you use the Bose headset. Use the manufacturers & it is all over.
For text (if you have small fingers) & browsing this handset is OK, for music & other features, check out other mobiles.

I got this phone today, after going into the shop & having a mess about on it, as a lot of the reviews on here had put me off getting it, & to be honest the whole touch screen thing had never really appealed to me!
But after having a mess about it, once I got home. I totally love it! The touch screen is easy to use unlike my Boyfriends, LG Prada! I like the qwerty keyboard makes the phone a bit different, & all round I think it is pretty easy to navigate!
I like the locking feature at the side, & the leather look pouch that came with the phone, will stop it from getting scratched in my bag!
I would take a lot of the reviews on here with a pinch of salt, but obviously everyone is looking for something different, I am glad I went for it regardless of some of the reviews on here!
As for the camera I think it is OK, majority of people have digital cameras nowadays & I think some people expect too much from a phone!
Overall I am really pleased!

I have had this phone a month & I love it.
Everyone that says the camera is bad is wrong, in my opinion it is amazing. You can get different size images depending on whether you have the keyboard out or not & the quality of the pictures when I put them on my laptop was incredible, I'd never seen better ones.
When I bought the phone I was given a month's free Internet which I used to my advantage as I've been busy lately & not had much time to get online to check emails, & facebook seems to work pretty well. Even images are displayed which I was fascinated with.
I didn't realise the phone had been out for so long, but I don't know anyone with it, yet! It's a trend setting phone, several people asked me whether it was a Blackberry & I get people asking me about it all the time.
I really can't get enough of the keyboard, & the smoothness of switching between full touch screen (e.g. When reading a message) & then the keyboard (when typing a reply).
I wouldn't go back to a 12 button phone now.
I think it's quite a feminine phone, especially as you see quite a few American girls on dramas like the Hills & Gossip Girl with phones like this. It's like a mini laptop.
The only thing I can complain about is that when I make a call I have to lock the screen so that my face doesn't press buttons while I am talking & literally, that is the only problem I have had.

To Fubby in the UK, regarding entering numbers during a call, press 1 for customer service, which is awkward. Agree with Fubby about this bit, called Vodafone yesterday & I had to unlock the screen keypad to press one, then wait for the phone to lock the keypad back before I can put my cheek back on it! Otherwise it presses all sorts of numbers since its touch screen, that's why you always need to unlock it when you're in a call before rejecting the call or pressing numbers, but I guess you need that for a touch screen.
Had this phone for 2 days it's been OK so far, touch screen can get a bit annoying, I am finding at times its not responding when I am touching a button & have to really press it hard.
A bit fiddling I have to say, the PC studio that allows you to manage your files on the computer is not that user friendly.
I wouldn't say this is better than Sony Ericsson phones because Samsung phones are not as user friendly. But it looks much better!
Rubbish contracts available for Vodafone on this phone though, so think very carefully when you're getting it. I am on £30 a month free phone but with that kind of deal you can get an equally as good (although not as good LOOKING) phone with O2 400mins & 600 texts or something.
This is one of the phones you have to think very carefully with especially when it's with Vodafone!

Second week with the phone & love it. Yes it's a bit bigger than the norm but the features are great.
Web browsing is good, call quality is excellent. Texting via the key pad is very quick & easy.
Menu is a bit fiddly but getting used to it. Only real issue I've had is entering numbers during a call (I.e. Press 1 for customer service), this can be a bit awkward as you need to reactivate the menu select the number & then enter it (anyone know any different? ).
Build quality is great, it feels very tactile & has the right weight to feel solid but not heavy.

I got this phone 3 days ago & I am still finding things to do with it. I have take a few photos & they come out fine, people have said they want more megapixels, you have to remember this is a phone not a camera. It takes a bit of getting used to but keep playing with it & the results will show. I have tried the iPhone & as good as all the features are it still lacks a few basic functions that the F700 have added (Bluetooth connection, zoom & flash). All in all this is a great phone if your patient & learn how to use it properly. Just remember this is a phone not a camera.

I am Getting This Phone Tomorrow But Still Haven't Made Up My Mind About It. Don't Know Whether To Wait For the F490 Or Get This One!? My Only Worry Is, Is That Is It A Old Phone Now & Should I Wait 7 Days For the F490? the Only Reason I Really Wanted This Phone Was Because Of the keyboard! Went In the Shop Tried It Out & Seems Good.
There's Quite A Few Bad Reviews about the Phone on Here but Still Want It! But People Have Write About the Camera & Said It's Not Very Good & Like Other People Have Said That You Have A Digital Camera For That But Can I Really Be Bothered To Carry Both Round With Me?
I Like A Phone With A Good Camera That's Why I Was Waiting For the F490 But Then Found Out It Didn't Have the Smart Keyboard So Was A Bit Confused But Decided To Stick With This One!
But From Reading the Comments On Here I Didn't Realize the Phone Was So Old! & As I Am Young I Wanted A New Phone That Was Out, None Of My Friends Have Heard Of This Phone I Fort That Was Good Because It Was New! Then Fort Maybe They Just Haven't Heard About It Because It's so old & Rubbish!
Oh Well I Probably Will Get It Tomorrow On Contract & If I don't Like It Will Just Have To Wait 12 Months To Change It. You Learn from Your Mistakes don't You, Might Be a Good Decision Will Find out Soon & Write Back & Tell You What I Think.

Yeah, I Reckon This Phone Beats the iPhone Totally. I Mean Come On, This Phone Has Way Better Technology Than That.
Also, Why Is Everyone Giving It Bad Reviews? Are You Expecting It To Have A Built In Microwave, Or Bed? It's A Phone With Amazing Features. You Should Be Lucky This Phones Has the Amazing Technology, Way Better Than You Old Nokia 3610.
So, the Camera Isn't That Good But If You Really Wanted Good Photographs Buy A Camera Designed For It. The Camera Is For Spur Of the Moment Photographs. I Had To Decide Between A Sidekick Or A Samsung F700. I am Glad I Picked This One, & It Is Outstanding.
Totally Better Than My Old Phone, the Nokia 7373. I Guess You Think Because I am young That I am Only Bothered About the Technology, Think Again.
There's A Small Section Of Smart Phones, & They're All Good In Their Own Way. So, actually Have It In Your Hands To Make A JudgeMent, If You Disagree Contact Me :).

Your never going to be completely happy with any phone unless you have it custom made (good idea actually) & it's going to be out of date in a matter of months anyway. Really like the good stuff I am hearing about this phone though, unless the iPhone is going to spring a QWERTY pad from somewhere I don't think I'll be getting it. It's JUST SO AWKWARD & TINY BUTTONS!

Had this phone for around a week now & am still finding new things on it!
Read a lot of these reviews before a bought the phone as was stuck on whether to get the F700, N95 8GB, Viewty or W960i. Am really glad I got this in the end though.
Some of the reviews are fair e.g. Phone can be a bit fiddly (touch screen can be awkward when been woken up at night or after a few drinks! ) & it is bigger than most normal phones. However, if the phone was any smaller the great touch screen would have been pretty useless. The camera is pretty great considering it's a 3MP although you do have to hold still (most Samsungs are like this). Music player is great & videos or films play great. Photo viewer could be better but am not complaining, great phone for people who love gadgets & phones!

This is an awesome phone.
Was unsure of what to pick between this & the w960i but I am so glad I picked this. I came on here & read the reviews first but still continued to order it, & those reviews were utter rubbish! Yes, the camera is rubbish, but that's why I have a separate digital camera, to take photos.
There is a lack of management resources with this phone but that's why we have computers. It's a phone for phoning or texting people (which the keyboard comes in handy for) with a few added extras.
For listening to music I have got an iPod, for taking pictures a camera, a phone is for calling & texting. End of.
Unless you have fat fingers, this is definitely a phone for you!

Touch pad not very accurate, texting on it is a big no no. I could have got used to the QWERTY but I just can't imagine this phone & me for the next 18 months! I am just looking what to change it to. Don't get me wrong this phone is so smart & fabulous but too big & fiddly for me.

I have got to say I am not a big mobile phone fan, or gadget fan, but I have been reading a few reviews on phones on the Internet lately. Now I have had the Samsung f700 since December, & from my point of view it's good, very good. I find it easy to use, it has all the functions & more, I find I can do most of my business on it, & can transfer to my lap top. Like I said I am not a gadgety person at all, I want functionality, first & foremost. It was my husband who persuaded me to get this phone, I have no regrets at all, & I would recommend it to anyone, it's truly brilliant, as phones go, top drawer, really good.

I have been using this phone for nearly a month now & I am not that impressed. The touch screen is a pain as when it decides to stop working you have to lock the phone (via a switch at top right) then unlock it to get the screen to accept touch commands. It does work 95% of the time, but that 5% when it doesn't gets to be a bore after a while. The touch vibration is a nice feature though.
The interface is a bit better than the previous Samsung phones I have used, but it still isn't particularly good. Seeing as the interface is one of the most important parts of the phone Samsungs continued lack of development in this area doesn't do this phone any favours. To get around the phone is overly convoluted & poorly thought out which doesn't make using the phone as good as it could have been.
The camera is average. Not at all good if used in low light but produces reasonable results in daylight. The flash is poor & barely does the job it was designed for.
The slide out keyboard on the other hand is excellent but seems a bit limited when there is no document creation app. It is big enough for larger hands & feels comfortable to use.

This is truly awesome, OK it might not be quite as slick as, say the iphone, but it's got more going for it. It's better than the LG Viewty, except for the camera. All round this is top drawer, forget the Apple fan boys, as they can't see nothing but apple products. Samsung f700 wipes the floor with it, I am telling you. My wife got the iphone & she hates it, & she likes apple products, from computers to ipods. But she even admits that the f700 puts the iphone to shame, need I say more, think not.

Awesome phone! Just great! Only ones that can say this phone is bad are iPod fan boys & girls. Camera is also good it gives blurred rarely in my case maybe one in 20 pictures. I would have bought it even without camera, for taking pictures I have something that is created for that purpose it's called DIGITAL CAMERA! Second
Looks great, works fast & reliable my memory card is 80% filled & it works pretty well even when I enter my music or pictures folders that are usually few hundreds of MB. You can get this phone opened (not bound by contract) for all operators, if not in UK look a bit on Internet you can order it online what are 20 Euros for shipping delivery? Great smart apple you can't use anything but their programs which are mostly useless. F700 on the other hand you can install bunch of programs & even thousands more will come! Everything you imagine is possible & already made! Can't play video? Simply download codec! Try that with
I think apples only advantage because it's bigger & has 16 mil colours & F700 has 262k. Who doesn't like black background with blue cross in menus can simply change theme. Well I hope I helped ones that is looking to buy this phone. I can only say BUY it if you don't like it you can give it back so you have nothing to lose.
Well that's about what I had to say about my F700.

Currently I have a Sony Ericsson K810 but I am due an upgrade soon. There isn't really much to choose on the market at the moment but I have had 4 Sony Ericsson phones in a row so I am use to how they work etc. I've got my eye on the F700 but I've been trying to compare that to the W960i. It would be great if someone can give me some valuable points because a lot of people have mixed feelings about each phone. The memory on the Sony is a massive 8GB but what's the memory on this phone? Also I use the camera on my k810i quite often so which phone is better for that perfect snap & is there any flaws which the touch screen technology on the F700 because the W960i load time is meant to be pretty slow. Both phones look very nice so it's a tough choice to make. LOL. Cheers.

I've had this phone a week & I am still loving it. The design is really gorgeous & it looks & feels beautiful. Solid but not heavy, shapely but practical. For those who have said it feels slippery or are annoyed by fingerprints on the back, you should have got an alternative back cover with the phone that is plain plastic so has more grip & won't get marks on.
The touch screen does take a little bit of practise but it is very intuitive & useable once you get scrolling down sorted! The keyboard is also very snazzy & useful but if you don't fancy having it open there is also an onscreen keyboard so you can use one hand for that quick text too!
I was impressed by the camera, after all this is a phone not a camera, yet it takes clear, good quality pictures. (Remember to keep still long enough though) the pictures can fill the whole screen & not look blurred!
The memory space is brilliant, definitely worth it. It would be nice to have had some kind of WordPad or office application so as to be able to use the keyboard to its full advantage & write long notes, essays & transfer them to computer. Easily Bluetoothed across pictures, music etc & they all display & play well.
Calling & ending calls is not at all a hassle, pressing two buttons is simple & these functions mean you don't accidently end a call with your ear or face! I love the way you can set the phone to vibrate slightly when you press 'buttons' on the touch screen so you know you're in the right place
I would really recommend this phone but of course, go check it out in the shop & see if it's for you. For me it's perfect as I love technology but it also has to look good. The f700 definitely looks good, it's so stylish & everyone wants to look & have a play!

There is one problem with it but not a major one. Camera is real bad quality & takes a couple of seconds to focus & light up the flash which is not good for snappy shots.

Not a bad phone, but does have a few flaws.
The quality of the handset is excellent with a nice solid feel to it. The slide mechanism also appears to be of a good quality. Battery life is rubbish.
The touchscreen is very accurate & even with my big fingers, very usable.
Applications wise, it's not too bad. Samsung could have been a bit more generous with games & included something that wasn't in 60 second demo format. I also think that the Google maps application isn't much cop. It constantly lies & can never get a reasonable fix on my location.
The media player is very good, with a nice easy to use functionality, good sound & good picture quality. I particularly like the finger slide for controlling the volume.
Overall I am very happy with it, particularly after a run of useless Nokia's!

- the camera isn't as bad as people say it is. Decent camera.
- the keyboard is excellent. The only problem is the accessibility of it.
- No Wi-Fi is a real kick to the teeth. This phone was made for Internet but you can't use for free
- Sound quality is very good. MP3's can be used as ringtones.
- Installing Java applications is almost impossible (as with most Samsung phones)
Didn't really meet my 'iPhone killer' expectations, but still a good phone.

One of the best phones I've ever used & I have a habit of changing phone every 6 months.
It looks great, easy to use, large memory space if you upgrade the micro SD card & more reliable & faster than the iPhone. The media player is fantastic as long as you enable the player to work in the background which looks better & allows you to see the CD picture if added.
Only thing I can fault it for is lack of software & games available for the phone but more should be available in time.
P.S. N95 great phone when it works which isn't very often.

I was really wary about getting this phone as the reviews were very mixed, I got this phone 2 days ago & love it, I find it easy to use & the touch screen is brilliant, the sound is also very good.
I have had a quick play with the camera & it seems to be OK. There are not any games on the phone just demos.
Overall I am very impressed & would recommend the phone to anyone.

Hi I got the phone today & think it is very good, very easy to use once you get the hang of it, people have said they can't unlock or lock the phone which is very easy there is a switch on the side of the phone. Anyway if you are thinking of getting one I highly recommend it I used to have the Sony Ericsson k800i which I loved but this just blows it out of the water.

So far this year I have had the following:
- Nokia e65, good in ways but rubbish as a phone.
- Nokia n70, not bad but I couldn't make phone calls as the speaker failed on 10 of the 11 I had.
- Sony Ericsson k770i, just a rubbish phone that shouldn't have been released.
- Sony Ericsson k850i, breaks too easy, too many soft ware faults.
- Finally the Samsung f700, I hate Samsung phones as they are rubbish & I thought this would be the same. I have sold iPhones to so many people & finally it has met its match, I made an 18 year old buy this over the iPhone because it actually works!
If you ask me THIS is the next big thing but Samsung need to keep phones like this coming or I am going to stop selling them all together!

I have been into this site for the past three weeks to read other people's views before getting the Samsung F700.
I have now got the phone 4 days & it's a nice phone but it does have its faults. It's a slippery phone, I have nearly dropped it on several occasions as it covered in nice shinny plastic. I think the back cover should have been made of some non slip material. Also, I found when entering my contacts into it, the scroll bar doesn't work very & the X button is too close to the scroll bar so I kept switching back to the front screen.
So, would I recommend it? No.

Some people are never happy, & just want the in gadget for the sake of it. OK this phone isn't perfect, but what phone is, but it's near enough. I have had mine for 6 weeks & it's great. All I can say is if you find it difficult to use, sound poor.
Stop comparing it to the iphone, to start one has a 2mega pix camera other 3, which ones best. One does video recording other doesn't, one sends MMS other doesn't & do I need to carry on. I have had loads of phones, loads, before getting this one I tried out loads, I was even smitten with the iphone, but, after really checking both out went for this one. Like I said it's not perfect, & probably not the best, but every phone is strong in some areas & weaker in other, or we'd all be buying Samsung phone. So if anyone is thinking of getting a new phone, get it. Oh & if you want top notch music then buy an iPod, & same with Internet use a laptop for goodness sake. Make your own mind & don't get drawn into this iphone nonsense, & you won't be disappointed I promise you. Wow outwards breathe now.

Rubbish phone. Took it back after 2 days. Now have a Nokia N95, which I STRONGLY recommend. The N95 has brilliant everything, including MP3 player which is very loud & very good quality. It's also got an accelerometer movement sensor built in, & with the right apps, you can do anything utilizing it. All in all, get an N95, not this rubbish.

When I first received this phone, I immediately knew how nice it looked (why it scores so highly on design & appearance etc) using it at first was slightly difficult mainly because I was not used to using a touch screen. Now I have become more confident after a week or so I have decided it is an excellent phone & I LOVE IT!

Received my Samsung f700 on a works contract on Friday. Must say that when I opened the box I was amazing at how sleek it looks (could even call it sleek). When it powered up I spent the next 40 minutes playing with the touch screen & exploring the features. Those people who have reviewed & said that the touch screen is difficult to use if you have big hands have a fair point. It is easy to push the wrong button & end up in completely the wrong place. The QWERTY keyboard is a nice touch however in my opinion texting was easier on a normal phone keypad.
The camera quality isn't wonderful for a 3 megapixel, but it does take some OK shots. MP3 play back is great & the BOSE headphones make sound quality top notch. The synch software supplied makes transferring files from PC, PHONE nice & easy & the memory card is sufficient to about 250 songs. Video play back is good & I watch a whole movie in good quality. My only major gripe with this phone is when making a call once connected the keypad locks & it is near impossible to end the call.
Overall Samsung have created a great phone if you like showing off to people & enjoy gimmicks but this is in no way an iPhone killer. I own the N95 on my personal contract & the features on that far surpass those on this phone. Nice try Samsung but not quite up to scratch!

Hi, First of all I'd like to say how much I was looking forward to getting this phone. On paper & you tube videos reviews it looks fantastic. My old phone is a Samsung x820 which I love by the way.
How disappointed I was when I found someone had swapped my phone for a black brick, on closer inspection it was actually the phone, a huge massive thing which you tube does not prepare you for & I don't own any pants that will accommodate such a hefty object. Opinion after 10 days use.
Good point.
- QWERTY key pad is ace.
- That's it I am afraid.
Bad points.
- Size & very slippery to handle.
- Screen gets all greased up, it annoyed the hell out of me so touch screen is not for me.
- Answering calls takes 1 switch & 2 buttons presses to answer.
- 3mg camera not 5mg as stated.
- No automatic portrait to landscape when you turn to the side, slide the key board out for this.
- No games, you get demos which you then have to buy.
- Terrible battery life. After fully charged & some more, no more than 2 days, if you're a heavy user this will be considerable less using MP3, email etc.
That's what got my goat with this phone. Looks great, reality it' rubbish. Please DO NOT GET THIS PHONE. I am exchanging for a Nokia E61i wish me luck!

I have had the F700 for about a week now & I think it's the BEST! I have just been reading other peoples negative reviews on the phone & I am wondering if they have actually got an F700 or just don't know how to use it. In some of the reviews people have said,
- No MMS but it does have MMS!
- No video but it does have video!
- No 3G but it does have 3G!
- No pretty display when listening to music but if you feel the need that you have to stare at your phone when listening to music then I guess you have too much time on your hands!
- Sound quality bad but the sound quality is good for a phone, however if you like listening to music I suggest purchasing a HiFi system or iPod!
- Video playback not on full screen bit it does playback on full screen!
- Takes a long time to take a picture but it depends how long it takes you to press a button.
- Keypad lock not easy to use but it has a button that slides up & down, how much more easier can it be?
- Only 5 preset shortcuts when using shortcut button, I think 5 shortcuts is enough considering it is supposed to be a SHORTcut, you might as well use the main menu!
- Weighs a tonne but it's a mobile telephone not a bar of gold. How heavy can a phone be unless operated by poppa smurf!
- QWERTY keypad takes too long to text but with a QWERTY keypad you press the s button once & the letter s magically appears on the screen, with a normal button phone you have to press the number 7 button four times to make the letter s appear! Call me stupid but this takes me less time than with a normal phone!
- Keep dropping the phone, if you are clumsy enough to keep dropping your phone then I suggest you purchase the new indestructible JCB phone!
If you ask me some people will moan about anything! I think this is a brilliant phone & would definitely recommend it, & if you don't like it you have got 14 days to change your mind anyway so it's not the end of the world like some of the people have reviewed.
Obviously this phone isn't perfect like when you end a call you have to press a number of buttons & the battery life isn't amazing but overall is a really good phone & much better than my previous Nokia N95 & Sony Ericsson w810i!
Thanks for listening, I am here all week! LOL!

Excellent phone, don't know why certain people have given this such a bad review. I have had loads of phone all different makes recently (last 5 years) used P910i, P990i, XDA, N-Series, & this phone. OK not at all as good as the iPhone but it is still a good phone, easy to use, good looking piece of equipment, definitely worth having.

Received my Samsung F700 yesterday & played with it all evening & today. One of the worst phones I have owned & decided to return it this evening. The design look since but the usability is poor especially if you have big hands. To make a call is longer too. This phone just made my lie harder. Great gimmick but not user friendly. The camera quality is poor.

Hi all, here are my views on the F700 for what they are worth. Please note if it does not make perfect sense in some places I have actually cut & pasted it from an email I sent to a chap that was interested in getting this phone.
It's quite lengthy so if you can't be bothered to read it let me just say this. DO NOT GET the F700.
Let me just say that I usually spend a lot of time choosing a phone, especially now the best deals are restricted to 18 month contracts.
I have to say that I wanted the iphone pretty badly when I first seen it. After playing with it for 5 minutes I was in love with it. However after reading the specs. & reviews I was slightly put off. No video, no MMS, no 3G & various other stuff together with a hefty price tag got me looking else where.
I came across the F700 a few months ago & it looked to be an excellent alternative to the iphone. It had better specs & was free; with a set of Bose headphones thrown in it looks irresistible.
Until just recently there were no concrete specs on the phone. Every website was listing it with incorrect old specs; 5 mega cam, 3.5GB memory plus more.
I changed to Vodafone to specifically get this phone.
Main reasons for wanting this phone were,
1) Glorious big touchscreen.
2) 3.6 Mbps connection.
3) Emailing using a QWERTY keyboard.
3) Its touted as a 'smart phone'
With the big screen I thought the applications would look & feel wonderful. MP3's would be a joy & video would be excellent. Not to mention the cam. Although only 3.2 mp (previous phone was Nokia N80 with same spec cam & was more than happy with it) I thought technology would have moved on a bit & the camera & video would compliment the big screen.
The truth is that the screen is completely wasted on this phone.
The MP3 player is the worst I have ever experienced. Given that the screen is so big & that the phone has won awards for its 'croisse interface' I was looking forward to music & video. The MP3 screen is very basic. You might expect to see a nice big picture of the album cover; no, instead you get a tiny picture in the top corner & only if you choose to listen by selecting albums.
The screen is just a big black empty screen with a giant blue cross that does not work particularly well.
You can swipe the screen to go to next track or previous but that's about it.
You can not simply minimise the MP3 screen & use other applications. Instead you get to choose the ability to listen in the background which seems OK at first but it just don't seem to work well at all.
The sound from the speaker is also the worst I have ever heard; music or hands-free speech are very poor through the speaker.
The audio output level to the headphones is very low also.
I tried over 30 video clips on the phone & not one of them would play full screen. Most of the clips were MP4 or 3GP, I could not get a WMV to work.
The camera is very slow from the time you press autofocus to actually getting a picture saved. I know cam phones are always slow but you have to keep the phone still for about 5 seconds after pressing the take picture button otherwise you end up with a blur.
It's virtually impossible to take a picture of something moving & catch the right moment.
Making/taking a simple phone call will drive you insane. The iphone has a proximity detector that can tell when you put it to your ear. The F700 simply locks the touchscreen, sounds OK but is dreadful in operation.
Also the F700 screen is locked via a mechanical switch on the side & it must be looked before putting in pocket as you get all sorts happening. Again this switch is not user friendly at all. Yeah it's just a flick of a switch but in practice it works very poorly.
The memory is only 100MB. I complained that the phone was advertised by Vodafone as 4GB expandable. This to me said it was a 4GB phone that was further expandable. The Vodafone Rep. Agreed & said they had many queries on this. He agreed to send me a free 4GB card.
Once the card was more that half full the phone slowed down. Browsing through tracks, albums, videos & pictures was a slow painful experience.
The Internet was not a particularly good experience either. If you save a book mark it simply goes into a list of bookmarks. You scroll through these books marks & choose the one you want. This is very very poor. The window for scrolling through is a quarter of the screen size available. The rest of the screen is pretty redundant. It's very difficult to quickly find a book mark if you have dozens of them.
Another gripe is that in the Internet mode you can not change to widescreen view unless you slide the keyboard open (as in most of the applications other than video).
It is also very hard to choose some of the content on screen by tapping the screen as it is so small.
I tried the Musicstation application as it's free for a month. Overall I think it's very good if you like your music. You can find pretty much anything & it even downloads the cover. However, you must be connected via 3G to listen (even when you have already downloaded the track). This means that no one can get through to you call wise. Also you can not use any other function of the phone whilst using Musicstation, this is very restricting. Also you can not listen via Bluetooth which is a problem for me as I stream my music to my car stereo. As far as I know unlimited really does mean unlimited when downloading via Musicstaion. I was impressed at first with the speed of the downloads; then I found out that the vast majority of the tracks are under 1MB. Tracks were taking between 30 to 60 seconds each which does not sound that bad & is livable with. When you see that using 3.6Mbps connection they should take no longer than 5-10 seconds (according to other sources I have checked) you kind of feel a bit cheated.
There is very little customisation available. There are no themes & the only thing you can change is the background picture.
There is a shortcut menu that has 5 preset shortcuts that also can not be changed or added to.
This phone is by no means a smartphone. There is no way to add any 3rd party applications. Check the list of stuff available for the Sony & Nokia Symbian phone. If you look in the right places you can download all of these applications for free (including the excellent Tom Tom).
My girlfriends Samsung G600 has far more menu's & options that the F700. This is one of the reasons I went for it; thinking that the F700 would be far superior. Its not.
My best advice would be to try the Viewty, W960i & F700 in store (the viewty is not available from Vodafone).
The reason I did not get the viewty is that a friend had the prada phone & it felt very light & toy like. Also I did not want to have to use a stylus only. Having seen the phone since I got the F700 I was going to get one as you can use fingers (check out the Viewty on the LG website. Sorry I don't have links to hand.
Vodafone have been very good to me as it is well outside of the 14 day trial period they do. This is why I have decided to go for the W960i rather than cancelling & going to another provider for the Viewty.
I think I would still go for the W960i as it has the best Walkman functions of any phone & most stand alone MP3 players (apparently).

I have had this phone for just under two weeks, I hate it so much that I have just asked to switch it with my provider!
The idea behind the phone is fab, at first look, it is sleek & stylish, funky touch screen etc
However, it weighs a tonne & is large & cumbersome! Both hands are needed to text & as it lacks a standard key pad. QWERTY key pad not really practical for a quick text & the touch screen version just takes too long!
After the first few days I found myself wanting to put my chip back into my old Sony, just so I could use a normal phone! Great if you want it as a multimedia device, but not for phone 1st.
Camera blurs, I expected much more from it & I took it out on Xmas eve thinking I wouldn't need a camera, sadly I now just have random blurred pics!
Is good for the Internet, but even then can be difficult to use the touch screen.
Finally, I am surprised by the lack of changes that can be made to the phone, no moving wallpapers etc, maybe this phone is aimed more for guys (although how they would navigate the touch screen text option with bigger fingers I don't know! ) But as a girl I want more features to play with & customise :O)
As soon as I got it out of the box my boyfriend nic, named it the brick. Need I say more?
