I've had this Tocco on contract from Orange since July 2009. All worked fine until just before Christmas when people I phoned began to hear loud buzzing at their end & couldn't hear me speaking. I've always had pay & go phones with no problem. Signal strength is also very poor. Haven't used phone since Christmas & have transferred SIM card into a Sony Ericsson W595 which is a lot more reliable!

Reviewer: A Very Stressed Out Person! - Skipton, UK

This is the worse phone that I have ever had! I am currently on my 3rd Samsung Tocco due to various problems & guess what now the battery is draining & the phone keeps cutting off even when it is on charge & not in use! So I am now having to return it to be serviced! A phone that needs servicing after just 3 months?!

- 1st Problem. Kept dropping phone calls, this was a huge problem as this phone is also for business use, this did not make me look very professional! Finally (whilst on the phone to a client) the call cut off & the phone shut down. The phone would not turn back on after trying new battery, charger etc. Had to return in to the ever so helpful network 3! Don't get me started on the communication issue, unhelpful staff in the Keighley store & poor network coverage!

- 2nd Problem. After 2 weeks without a phone (told you 3 were helpful) I received my phone back, all was well for a while then the screen started freezing & again dropping calls. As you can imagine I was getting rather stressed at this point, called 3 (I was on the phone for nearly an hour) I demanded a new phone or even a totally different one, was not bothered as long as it worked & clients could reach me. They would not give me another phone but offered me a lovely brand new Samsung Tocco, which I had to pay for by the way! They could not process the order unless I paid £25.00! I was passed caring at this point & agreed to pay for the phone.

- 3rd Problem. I received my shiny new phone through the post & thought all the problems would be over. Na ah! They send me the wrong colour phone! I had a pink one & they sent a black one, so now I have a back phone with a pink back & they would not send me a different back out. The phone was OK for a while, the usual freezing when texting or trying to make a call but I was getting used to that. However, now the phone's battery is draining all the time so I am constantly having to keep it on charge. When I unplug it, it lasts about 15 to 30 minutes then dies, even when I have not made any calls.

This phone has been the bane of my life for nearly 15 months now & I cannot wait until the contract runs out & I can buy a new phone, change to a better network (one who's call centres cares) & try to run my business with no mobile phone problems!

Seriously it looks a nice phone but it's NOT, don't waste your time or money!

Not user friendly. Not intelligently designed. Difficult to assign phone numbers to a group. Add a new contact, then try to ring it & it's not there, it's gone into chip memory. Too many key strokes to do simple things, example: create message, then to add recipients you need several keystrokes to find them. Etc.

The camera is good, but forget the 5 megapixels, it is the size of the lens that is more important. I wish I had not bought this phone!

Sound is dreadful. Even after the SIM was replaced & Vodafone sent it off for 'repair' the sound quality remains abysmal & I mean ABYSMAL.

To text digits 1 to 10 you have to scroll through all the useless characters you never need to get to them. Over sensitive keypad meaning you end up in an unrelated submenu if you're just a tiny bit off target.

The menu logic is often daft. Endless questions about what you want to do. Simplicity works best! It's like ordering a black coffee in Starbucks. 9 questions later you'll have what you want.

Radio savages battery power.

Screen freezes from time to time.

Camera, this was one of the main reasons I got this phone to begin with. A real let down, very long delay between click & capture. Image quality not that hot for 5 mp. & renaming every shot to save it? Idiotic.

In all seriousness, a very poorly thought out, poorly put together phone.

I wrote before & I have the phone for like 2 to 3weeks, the phone is brilliant & absolutely gorgeous, I choose pink because I am obsessed.

The design is so amazing & pretty, the features are good, I find it really easy to text, & I love everything about it. The only downside is the photos keep coming out kind of blurry until I load it onto my laptop (can anybody give me how to make it not blurry).

The best phone I have ever had, no other problems. I have had not phone cuts etc.
I got it with 02 at Carphone Warehouse, I think it is to do with the network.

Hope it helped.

Ordered the phone on Thursday from Carphone Warehouse on 02 so I will be receiving it today, I am still waiting, I cannot wait to get it though, I am sure it's a brilliant phone a much bigger upgrade from LG KP500 which was rubbish, had many problems with it. I will write a review on the phone when I have seen it & tried it out. Lots of love. Rated 50% as a comment only review.

I've had this phone for about 14 months now. I have in general loved it as it looks good & has served me well. But I've had a few minor problems.

- Occasional freezing (I tend to give it a gentle slap or leave it a few minutes until it sorts itself out).

- Problems with predictive text, it often doesn't save words & I continually have to keep re-entering them into the dictionary! Also some pointless words keep appearing instead of more sensible options (for example on my phone if I want the word 'at' I get the word CV as the first option & have to scroll through to get 'at', I think 'CV' was one of the words the dictionary once let me add but now I can't get rid of it as the first thing that comes up! ) this is very annoying but if you don't use predictive you needn't worry.

- Touch screen means it is virtually impossible to text & move at the same time, I always end up pressing the OK button instead of the space bar & nearly end up sending it too early.

- Apart from taking a while to take a photo the camera is pretty good in day light or well lit rooms but very poor in the dark, the flash makes everyone's face sort of blue & nearly blinds you.

For me these are just irritations not huge problems.

I am about to get my upgrade & have had my Tocco for nearly 16 months so I feel I can give a decent long term opinion on the device. Overall over the time I've used it it's been a very reliable phone, occasional problems have been times when it freezes completely & other fewer occasions where the lock button on the top has failed to work. Neither of these things really bothered me as it's just a case of switching the phone off & on again.

The camera is capable of taking decent pictures in good light conditions, however takes an eternity to actually process whilst taking & in bad light conditions struggles. But at the end of the day it's not a camera it's a phone with a camera, if you want top quality photos get yourself a digital SLR. The Internet browser is good & loads up Facebook etc fairly quickly, although this device doesn't have Wi-Fi.

The screen is clear & bright & the touch screen works well bit isn't as good as on newer devices that are available. Texting takes a bit of getting used to & can still be frustrating after months of use. One thing about this phone that I've never quite got is the widgets, I've never used them as it's just as easy to access the features just by using the usual menu method, & if you do use a widget to access something, as soon as you exit the feature the widget remains on the home screen which means you have to drag it back to the sidebar!? Pointless IMO!

The overall design of the device is very slick & it still looks good now. The battery life is average. I've never had any problems with calls dropping or poor sound quality whilst making calls.

If you're after a well made fashion phone for everyday use, look no further than the Tocco. As for me I can't wait to get my lovely Blackberry Bold 9700, counting down the days!

I decided to wait until I had used the Tocco for two months before making any comments, so that I could give a fair review of the phone.

This is the first touch screen phone that I have had, so it took a certain amount of getting used to, &, as with most phones, the menus were different so that also took some time to find my way around, but as I said this is common to all phones from different manufacturers.

Plus points are the camera is good in the daylight, & gives perfectly acceptable results, bearing in mind that this is a mobile phone camera, but disappointed with night time or low light use. I have a Digital SLR so don't expect that sort of quality from a lens about a 20th the size of the one on my 'real' camera, whereas some seem to. It's slim & light, the alternative 'flap' that you can use to cover the screen comes in handy, although can be a bit fiddly if you want to remove it to access the battery or sim card.

Minus points, only one that I could really think of. Battery Life indicator. As soon as it goes from full to 2 bars, you have to recharge. I cannot guarantee that the battery will last to the end of the day if it hits two bars first thing in the morning, so I cut back on calls & texts & won't use it for Internet browsing at all, unless I am at work or in the car & can plug it in to recharge.

I have not experienced it freezing, as some have, the keypad is fine, even for my chubby fingers, & although a stylus would be nice, it would probably go missing.

We now have three Tocco's in our household & any problems that we have had with it are network related, not phone related.

Absolutely awful phone. Texting on the hoof is a nightmare, I need all my concentration & 2 hands to do it! & why is the OK button so close to the space bar ARGHHH! I can't hear callers properly either, what's the point of having a mobile if you can't text or talk? Not sure if anyone else has a problem with the music player but the majority of my tracks have fast spots in them where the music seems to randomly change tempo. That is of course after you eventually manage to get the music loaded onto the phone in the first place. The software is not user friendly at all. Also the camera takes only 5 rubbish photos with flash before the battery runs out. What's that all about? Give me a Sony Ericsson any day.

I have had this phone for three months with T Mobile & whilst there are problems with the telephone calls being muffled etc. My main issue is the camera. Has anyone else's camera on their Tocco completely broken? Mine's not taking & thus not saving pictures or anything.

So far totally under enamoured & I certainly wouldn't buy a Samsung phone again!

This phone is great, I got to admit. But uploading files isn't good. Files cannot transfer to my memory card, a pop up error comes up.

The MP3 & video is rubbish, many music & video format cannot be played.

Difficult to talk on the phone, it doesn't cut off but hard to listen.

The camera's not very good for a 5 mpx, it lags & takes forever to take one shot. Colours end up mixed (pink ends up as Orange, blue ends up as green) it's not the lighting, took another shot with my camera & compared it.

On the manual it doesn't mention that the front camera is only used for voice calls.

The screen freezes & scrolling is driving nuts.

This is not a bad phone overall. Easy to use in general although I've gotten rid of my Tocco as annoyed me every time I made a call it cut out even though I had plenty of reception!

I've had other Samsung phones & loved them before although the Tocco put me off a little as kept freezing from time to time.

Samsung need to have spent a little more time on getting it better before releasing it.

Don't get me wrong like I say, it is a good, sleek phone just you can have a few issues.

- No 1. Rubbish reception.
- No 2. Touch screen fail.
- No 3. Rubbish reception.
- No 4. Wouldn't charge.
- No 5. Touch screen fail.
- No 6. Touch screen fail & rubbish reception.

These are just the ones I can remember. Orange have been very good & are now sending me an LG to try instead. Absolutely rubbish phone worst I have ever had, other niggles are slow sometimes when texting & causes you to lose it start again, hard to hit the correct key so one handed text is virtually impossible, no thumbs as to fat to hit right key & the dictionary doesn't let you type many words, even oxford English! Also I was stuck looking at Orange screen savers not much personalization available only wallpaper for main screen.

My wife got this phone from Carphone Whorehouse on a gift voucher last Christmas.

Overall, it works, but there is an irritating fault which I gather from other reviewers is very common. Every so often, the phone simply resets itself without warning. No stored user contacts are lost (these are on the SIM) but the Message Centre number IS ALWAYS DELETED from the phone memory when this happens.

My wife now has to carry around a laminated card with the Message Centre number on it so that she can reenter it whenever the phone throws a wobbly.

Why on earth this happens, I don't know, but it is EXTREMELY annoying & not a feature one would expect of Samsung. Be warned, this phone could drive you nuts.

There is no doubt this is a good looking phone but that's where it ends. The user interface is not well designed & this makes texting etc extremely frustrating. The screen constantly freezes & as the phone tries to catch up with the keys pressed, it inevitably cancels out & the whole message is lost. My phone mysteriously deleted everything off the memory card & deleted all my contacts. I have the phone on an 18 month contract with O2 & 5 months in (after 3 repairs & a software upgrade) I've given up. They refuse to replace it as they can't find a fault. I have now bought a new Sony Ericsson to see out the rest of my contract. FOR SALE on eBay, Samsung Tocco, hardly used as its hardly worked!

As everyone says it's a nice LOOKING phone. The camera is NOT good. It's slow to capture, blurs easily & changes colours of subjects beyond recognition of original view. Total rubbish in that respect.

I agree with all the complaints about the touch screen for texting (& predictable text is dumb) I don't have fat fingers but when I press one button it registers as my having pressed another. Really hard to send a text that makes any sense, have to concentrate hard, & not do it on the run or when distracted in any way!

Another problem with this touch screen is that when you are ringing a company & are in an automated menu/queue, & the automated message tells you to press a certain button to get a certain service, you can press it (once you unlock the touch screen) & you can hear the beep of the key you've pressed (if you have volume up) but the automated service won't register it & will cycle through the menu several times until it realises you probably haven't got a touchpad phone & need to speak to an operator!

In order to save, delete or listen again to voicemail messages, I actually have to ring from a different handset & pay extra. If you listened to a message once, it saves it, but that means it will delete it in a few days, & if you don't call from an outside phone to retrieve that message again, you'll lose it. NOT GOOD IF IT'S WORK RELATED!

Bought it from Carphone Warehouse & am on T Mobile. First T Mobile person I spoke to was clueless & said the handset was faulty (probably) but I called back & got someone more phone savvy, who called Samsung for me & they said I have to call them from another handset so they can talk me through the right settings. Going to do that now & let you know if anything changed.

I paid £245 for this phone last summer entirely because it was the first mobile phone in the Irish language. For that, Samsung deserves the highest praise. I have no problems with it except for one major & appalling problem, the sound quality is atrocious. Speech is muffled & inaudible when you are walking down the street talking to somebody on it while traffic is in the background. I am in the quiet of the countryside now & it is profoundly annoying having to ask the person on the other end of the line to repeat themselves ad nauseam. I am on the verge of going back to my Nokia & the only thing keeping me with Samsung is that it is still the only phone in Irish. I brought it back for repair last summer but they found nothing wrong with it, & the girl in the phone shop who also had a Tocco had precisely the same abysmal sound quality on her Tocco. It is beyond belief that a very large company such as Samsung cannot get something as fundamental as the speakers & sound up to a respectable quality.

Got this phone a month ago, pretty cool it is. I love the T9 text input, its super cool! Adding new words to the T9 is breeze.

Sound quality is good but the camera is horrendous, even at 5MP it's not good. If you're considering buying this phone for the 5MP camera, trust me you'll be better off with a Sony or Nokia. Pretty big disappointment.

The widgets are okay, you'll like them in the first week, love them for a day or two & would virtually want to get rid of them in a month or so, they're useless, practically.

Errm the display screen resolution isn't that great either, I was happier with Sony Ericsson K810i (That was a fabulous phone).

Overall I'd say it's an okay phone, nowhere near to Sony : (.

The problems are.
- Phone jams.
- Settings reset suddenly.
- Hangs up during a phone call.
- You get texts 4 days after they are sent!

I have had this phone for a while now & am on my second one. I bought it on impulse & have regretted it ever since!

The features on the phone are great, & the camera & video are pretty reasonable, but this is all completely overshadowed by the usability of the phone.

The widgets in theory are great, but I have found they move of their own accord which is incredibly frustrating.

The menu is slow & the touch screen is just awful. When writing a text message the phone has a mind of its own, you press one button & it does something completely different or exits the keyboard. It is so frustrating that I often end up using my other half's phone as it's just easier. I have had problems with it freezing & resetting itself, & on the old one which I sent back I couldn't receive calls as I would answer it & within a minute it had hung up on that person.

I hate this phone with a passion now & would seriously advise anyone against getting it, I am tied into an 18 month contract & I hate it so much I am considering getting a cheap pay as you go handset to replace it.

The best thing about it is the way that it looks, but even this doesn't make up for the stress it causes!

I have had this phone for a while now, & at first I loved it. Now I am craving Sony & kicking myself for changing.

This phone is good, but somewhat slow. The time it takes to hang up a call, or return from a menu is similar to that of the evolution of the world. VERY slow!

The predictive text is infuriating, where you have to cycle through dozens of nonsensical words until you find the one you want.

The camera, as usual with Samsung, is horrendous. One can only hope that they realise it is NOT how many megapixels it has, but rather how quickly it takes the photo, & the shutter speed.

I think it would benefit greatly from being more customizable, i.e. Being able to change the screen saver, & being able to add more widgets.

It is a reasonable phone, in so much that it has never broken on me, the screen is solid & the phone feels well made with a good GUI, but the general OS has sadly put me off.

I have now had the Tocco for a week & I am generally happy with it. I have many pros & cons.

Firstly the pros, It looks fantastic, the camera is great quality, it's got some great games & many useful features, it has a very large screen & what I like most about the phone, is it's fantastic battery length. I've never had a phone with such good battery power, I was using it for 4 days straight from the moment I got it, & even after 4 days the batter power bar was still at full power, it's wasn't until the 5th day it went down to 2 to 3 charged. Amazing battery life! Only need charge once a week.

As for the cons, even though the camera is great quality, it can blur easily if you don't keep the camera fairly still which annoyed me. Also another thing I didn't like was the clumsiness of the touch screen. I found texting a struggle & I often had difficulty moving the widgets into the widget index. I knew it was a touch screen before I bought it obviously, that is not what I am complaining about, but it's just the touch screen isn't the easiest to use. I am thinking about getting one of those little sticks, it might help. Also the last thing I didn't like was, even though it features a fantastic large portrait screen. For some reason, all of the portrait pictures would only be displayed landscape & if you wanted to make an image you took as the wallpaper, it would zoom in on an area of that image, which makes the 5 mp camera & fantastic screen combined pointless in a way.

What was the hype about this phone about? the only upside of this phone is the design, even that not being perfect. I purchased this phone in October, & it had already broken at the start of December, the hold button stopped working completely. Despite that, I kept the phone, as the price of repair was £50. Then, only months later, the phone stopped charging, it was not the charger that had failed, it was the phone, as I had tried using the computer cable also. DON'T BUY THIS PHONE, unless you're going to wrap it in cotton wool (not literally). In addition, the touch screen isn't very accurate.

My previous phones were the O2 Atom & the Blackberry. Now that I have the SAMSUNG F480 (for three weeks now) I can't help but compare this phone with the other two, even though they are all very different!

The SAMSUNG is a great phone, easy to use, has a good set of features, is well behaved & has not let me down.

However. It is not a PDA (like the O2 Atom) & is not as easy to use as the Blackberry.

Yes, the O2 Atom was a good PDA & a rubbish phone & the Blackberry is easy to use (made for Americans) but light on features.

If there was one thing that I could change on the SAMSUNG it would be the address book search. On the Blackberry you just enter the phone number or start typing the name (or part of a name) & a list of eligible names appear (& shrinks) as you type. The O2 Atom had a similar feature where you can write part of a name with a list matching the search criteria. On the SAMSUNG you cannot do a partial match & is particularly annoying when you have to enter a surname (or first name if your list is mixed). If you do not wish to run a search, & instead want to scroll through the names, it only shows a few names at a time & there are no additional buttons to 'jump' partway down a list.

Furthermore, entering text is via the 90's, abc or Tabc, etc. It's a touch screen! Display a QWERTY keyboard or something more modern!

Oh well. It is, after all, just a phone. A nice phone.

Nevertheless, the phone is a breeze to use. Surfing the web, browsing photos, reading messages & navigating the various phone menus. Note that it's not for beginners.

Hey! Just got this the other day & I love it, it's such a nice little gadget!

The only things I find a bit annoying is the you can't chose your own shortcuts like you could on my old Samsung E840, & the touch screen takes a bit of getting used to (it took me ages to write a text at first!). Now I am used to it, it's really easy. Just need to be light & not heavy handed like my boyfriend is. He can't quite get the hang of it ha ha.

I agree about the camera, it is a bit disappointing but it still works great on normal shots without flash & when you take them at night just don't get to close to whatever & whoever your taking a picture of & its fine!

I adore this phone, it's so cool & nice to hold & play with. Might be a bit confusing but it's OK if you play with it for a while. I would definitely recommend this, especially if you like Samsung's anyways, I know I wouldn't get any other make!

Have fun with this phone! Xxx.

I've had this phone on Vodafone for several months now & I love it. As with any modern phone it does & will have its own problems & flaws. As my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be I wanted a phone with a larger display with larger digits. This doesn't disappoint. It can also increase or decrease the size of the text in the display. Picture & sound quality from video recordings is excellent & the camera itself is very clever, with face & smile detection, even works in the dark which was impressive. Built in music player is also very good & easy to use. I've added an 8GB memory card which is relatively cheap & with the built in file viewer can even see word docs, PDF files etc. Another plus is the security features that appear to be lacking on other phones, even the latest models. This phone has the ability to password protect text messages, call lists, images, videos & other files.

All in all a very good phone, not perfect but not many are. The addition of Wi-Fi would have made it a truly excellent phone.

Hi all, Just bought this for myself as a Xmas gift to myself & one for my boyfriend as a surprise. They arrived last week & I am now enjoying my Tocco, to be honest it was all a bit confusing to start with due to my lack of experience with touch screens & with Samsung phones, but worth spending the first day just playing around & getting to know the features. My boyfriend really likes it so will be well please Xmas morning when he gets his.

So far I cannot complain about any of the features as it gives you everything it says it will (as long as you read what the phone has I.e. Camera, music, battery life etc). Only small weenie bad comment would be if you haven't had a touch screen or Samsung, please take time to get used to your Tocco.

All in All very highly recommended, that's all, oh & have a great Christmas.

I have the phone on a T Mobile contract (for 3 months) & am generally pleased with it. The touch phone aspects are good although scrolling through lists & texting takes a bit of getting used to.

I was initially disappointed with the camera (I previously had a Sony Ericsson K800 which was fairly good) & found that the resolution on the Tocco screen was poor. This seems to be due to the screen not being quite capable of handling the 5 megapixel image. The photo was sharper when it was uploaded onto a PC & even became temporarily sharper when I zoomed in to the image while viewing. However, as with my previous Sony Ericsson, the photos need to be taken in bright light, with a very steady hand & with a relatively non-moving subject to produce anything that looks half decent.

I don't find that I use the widgets very much. They tend to take up too much screen space & can be accessed through the menu system easily enough. However, they certainly look good on the adverts.

The Tocco also doesn't allow the user to specify their own shortcuts. Unfortunately, you get what you're given.

Internet browsing works well & the screen is just big enough to actually enjoy reading web pages. I could never quite manage this with small screens.

I wish the profiles could be a little bit better. I think the Sony Ericsson idea of having white lists (linked to the profile) where calls that complied with the list would be allowed through to the phone (while those that didn't are sent straight to voice mail) was useful. E.g. Any numbers in the Work group could be filtered to voicemail when at home etc.

The Tocco has a black list system that is not linked to profiles & requires the user to block numbers on a one by one basis.

I have encountered no reliability problems with the phone & found the battery life to be reasonable.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone that wanted a small phone with good features.

One of the best phones I have ever had. Takes a bit of getting used to at first, but once I did I love it! Never had any major problems with it before, although I did drop it once & the screen cracked making the touch screen unresponsive for the top bit, but after going back to carphone warehouse, they simply replaced the phone, no extra charge! Only problem I've found to have occurred one or two times, is when in a call & pressing the menu button to read a new message, sometimes it won't go on the messages, & just displays a timer of how long you've been on the phone, & I cannot read that message till I am off the phone, but that's only happened a few times & isn't that much of a bother. I have just returned my Tocco as the battery life was very poor (certainly not anywhere near the specification) & the camera had failed completely after a few days. There was a problem with the people I was calling hearing me, to the extent where it became very frustrating indeed & I would rather call people from the landline at home! I have ordered the Samsung U900 Soul as a replacement, I have had Samsung phones for years & have never been disappointed, until now, always a first time I guess. The idea of the touch screen sounds like fun, until you realise that, in practice it is not a fully honed concept as yet, some more work needed until I venture in to fully touch screen phones again! I like to play games on my phone as wel, the choice seemed limited for the Tocco which is a shame. If you change the wallpaper for a picture you have taken yourself, the quality looks very poor, not what you would expect from something that has such a high spec. Very disappointed.

In addition to this when scrolling sometimes it will just stop & start going the other way which is so so annoying.

The touch screen can be okay when it wants to be & I've found that a lot of the time it's the soft keys that freeze which can be frustrating!

This phone also suffers from a terrible Samsung camera which is very slow to respond & takes about 4 seconds to actually take a photo so more often than not the photos are blurry anyway!

I am in the process of having my phone fixed, (dropping calls) have been told by Orange that it is a known fault on the Tocco & have been given the Samsung number to ring, Samsung told me to drop it in to one of their repair shops or to send it by post, because their nearest dealer is 40 miles away, I will have to send it away.so Samsung know its a fault on the Tocco (droping calls on all networks) Hope this helps anyone else.

Nightmare. Do not buy it! Worked OK for first two months when you get used to it. Very hard when scrolling down to get the right contact first time. Then the screen starting freezing, Orange replaced phone after spending 45 minutes on the phone to them. My second phone is doing exactly the same & only got it yesterday! Nothing at all on touch screen works.

Reviews say to take battery out & replace it but even this isn't working. Feel like throwing it out of the window! Has anyone any suggestions before I resort to this?

Great phone, I have had this phone for like 1 month now & it's great, not giving me problems at all, I don't understand all this call dropping business, it might probably be due to the network situation. I got mine on a GSM network, meaning all networks & its fine, I avoided purchasing the phone on an Orange network because I have heard they give a lot of problems. I am currently using O2. The camera is great, but only if you take them off the phone & view them through your computer. If you view the pictures on the phone, you're just going to think it is pure rubbish. It has everything, except Wi-Fi. The 3G thing is super fast so I guess that makes up for it. Another issue is whilst your in a phone call. It's great when the surrounding area is pretty quiet, however if you are a city person like me then you are not going to hear anything the other person says, unless you use earphones. Hope this helped.

I bought my Tocco yesterday, because I heard about the poor sound quality I insisted the shop phoning me on the Tocco before I went ahead & signed the contract, you won't be surprised to hear that I tried out two that had a terrible echo on the speakers & were so quiet I couldn't hear him, he said it was because of the wind outside, I said, yeah right! Then I tried a third Tocco & it seemed OK, but I went to the O2 shop for that one & they set the ring tone to the loudest & it was fine, I haven't used it a lot & I am hoping it will be OK. I did star hash 1234 hash & it came up with this, F480ADHD3, does anyone know if this is the latest version which will hopefully cure the dropped calls etc? Be good to hear from anyone who may know! I find the phonebook a pain, takes ages to get someone out of it especially if they're in the P's to W's. I will change it within the 14 days if it starts dropping calls, I couldn't be bothered with the hassle to be honest, my Samsung G600 has been brilliant, I won't be selling yet just in case!

I have purchased this Samsung phone camera recently, it is very good looking & good features, but sad to see basic phone functions do not work properly.

- Calls drop.
- Network reception is very poor, I have another Sony Ericsson both with the Orange, one Sony Ericsson shows the signal but Samsung doesn't in my room. Very sad spending so much money on this white elephant.
- Tocco ireboots suddenly while playing MP3 don't know why. I am afraid to play MP3 songs, I am sticking to my ipod for songs.
- Suddenly some settings have reset, whenever I press key, key tones are happening, I don't know where to switch off the key sounds, tried phone settings etc. Not able to identify where to find this feature.
- If set the autokey lock, while you are operating something within 5 seconds the keys get locked.

Overall not happy.

I've had my Tocco for little over a week now & noticed almost immediately that it was dropping calls, I didn't realise it was a problem with near enough everyone though. I am with T Mobile so no it is not a network problem. Also although I am relatively pleased with the features etc, its touch screen sometimes takes a couple of go's before the features change. Aside from the faults being unbelievably annoying I am quite pleased with the phone & glad to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Nick, the people are giving me the exact same story.

Already sent the phone off for repairs which didn't work! No surprises there then! They won't let me swop the phone because I didn't return it in 28 days (despite the fact I was dealing with a bereavment & the phone physically wouldn't ring 150! ) & they say a replacement would have the same problem. Surely they have broken the Sale of Goods act by supplying a faulty phone anyway!? I am about to start taking action through Ofcom or Cisas although when I told the colourful lot on 150 this they said I had to take it up with the store & not over the phone. Funny that when I visit the store I am told the opposite! They just keep telling me to take it up with Samsung. I am pulling my hair out over this. If you make any progress please, please post on here!

This phone joins the very small club of once you touch it, you'll like it type phones. It's small enough to fit in your hand & the design itself is simply beautiful. Unfortunately, you will get some that will be lemons. You either get one that will work, or one that will have that call dropping issue.

Aside from that, you have a very capable portable media player, a very capable camera, a phone you can use as a freaking high speed 3G modem, & a fashion accessory that will turn heads. It's no iPhone, then again, it doesn't require you to sell your soul to iTunes to use it. & for £220, you can't really go wrong with it. That's less than half of the iPhone for a lot more features!

I am now on my fourth Tocco! Orange have replaced it 3 times & now say that they are awaiting the release of a software update from Samsung to fix the call dropping problem.

Well, seeing as Orange are as useful as a chocolate fireguard, I went on the Samsung website & used their online fault facility to ask them what the solution was.

They responded within 4 hours & told me that they have released new firmware for the Tocco & that if I take my phone to one of their service centres (carphone warehouses) & leave my phone with them for 24 hours they will install the new firmware & the problems will stop.

Spoke to carphone warehouse & they are fully aware of the upgrade.

Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel! (I hope).

My hubby & I both have Tocco's with same firmware (F3) but I am with T mobile & have had no problems but he is with Orange & has problem with call dropping. He uses his as a business phone as he is an engineer with Orange! I am trying to persuade him to swap phones with me to see if it makes a difference. Watch this space!

Oh & if anyone from Samsung (or elsewhere) can tell me how to PERMANENTLY disable predictive text (rather than having to do it manually for each text). I would be very grateful.

READ ME I HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY IT.

It appears that I have been experiencing the same problems as many (most) of you Tocco users out there. Not only with the phone dropping calls all the time but also with the Inept service provided by a certain network provider, mentioning no names (known as a fruit or ridiculous colour) This poor service is even more upsetting when you consider I have been with the network provider for a number of years that are fast approaching the double figures mark, & when you consider my bills are consistently over £50.00.

I reported this problem to said network provider on 11th August & still I have had no joy. If this was a fault with the camera or another function that I could live with then it wouldn't be an issue, but when you cannot make & receive calls on a phone in my opinion it is no longer a joke but becomes dangerous (especially as my wife is 8 months pregnant & may need to call me urgently anytime soon).

Despite me having a Network care plan said provider state that they will not replace the phone as it is a known fault yet Samsung are not aware of any known fault?

On 4th September a member of the network providers alleged customer services team informed me that the problem actually arises from the Software installed by them on the phone but still they will not sort it?

Now I am not positive but surely there is some form of a breach of contract on their part. I am in the process of contacting consumer direct & ofcom for further info & will update this forum as & when. In the mean time if anyone can offer any further help or advice, I.e. 'IS anyone EXPERIENCING the SAME PROBLEMS ON A NETWORK THAT ISN'T A FRUIT FOR EXAMPLE 02 OR T MOBILE? I would be more than grateful.

Having had a bite from the said piece of fruit I have been left with a very bitter taste in my mouth. I am in my third month of an upgrade & unless I get any advice from other Tocco users, consumer direct or Ofcom I am going to cancel my contract even though it will stand me at £430.00.

Just to add a bit of light hearted humour to my whinge. The Samsung SGH 480 TOCCO is an excellent piece kit, providing you are not going to use it as a phone.

Thank you for allowing me to get this off my chest, I can sleep tonight with a clear head only to wake in the morning & discover that despite the wildest dreams my Tocco still doesn't work.

All the best & Good Luck, Nick.

Had this for a while now Pay as you go Vodafone £300.

Quick summery? Don't bother, get a Nokia. This is a rushed to market competitor to the iPhone & is a obviously rushed effort from samsung.

Pros.
- They seem to have fixed the dropped calls thing, mine has a 3 in it's firmware & it seems OK. The reception seems better than my old RAZR V3i.
- Mine hasnt frozen or crashed, yet :).

Cons.
- Audio quality is poor, too quiet on calls & very distorted. Forget listening to any MP3 with bass via the speaker, they won't have any!
- Silly connector on the side of the phone for power, headphones & PC connection, someone shoot the engineer who stuck that there!
- Battery strength will go from three quarters full to flat like that (snap).
- the SMS send button is too close to space, little things like that show what a rushed effort this phone is.
- Camera is bad! In low light (like indoors) its simply terrible & takes ages to actually snap a picture. The camcorder is worse it can only do 320 res. N95 laughs at this phones camera & video efforts. No you can't use the led flash as a torch.
- the whole user interface looks like its really good but when you use it you realise just how confused it is & just how many simple features are missing, which leaves you feeling cheated. The widgets are pretty useless & you can't add or change them, forget customising it, it has three 'main menus which let you access features three different ways but none have all the features you need so you constantly have to swap between them.

A rushed to market effort not worth the £300, get a iPhone or a N95 or a N96 if you want a touch screen or features, seriously :).

NICE BUT DIM.

There are so many questions from users on this page so to answer a few.

- Yes you can turn vibration off or down using the button on the left side of the phone when on the widget screen or through settings, sound & display.
- Yes you can add multiple numbers to a contact, play around with the individual contact in phonebook to see how.
- No you can't get rid of the ANNOYING screensavers, who wants a picture of a tree.

I could go on as I have spent literally hours playing with this phone & trying to like it as much as as the Sony Ericsson's I have had in the past. The design is wonderful (love the flip up case! ), the touch screen is OK, the camera is good (but not as good as expected) & the Internet great.

All this aside, my f480 is winging it's way back to Orange as I type. The call dropping & poor signal quality rendered it unusable & I have successfully argued with Orange for a new phone (my bills had halved in two months as I couldn't use the thing! ) Unless you have an excellent signal quality in your area, the patience of a saint & a liking for winter scenes & pictures of trees on your phone do not even consider getting this model!

When reading a lot of the reviews about calls cutting out, signal problems, long winded texting, I really started to think whether I had done the right thing in choosing this phone.

Admittedly I have only had it for a day but I am in love with it already. I have had no problems with the calls cutting off. As soon as I got the phone I keyed in star hash 1234 hash to make sure I had the latest version & was relieved when it came up with E2. Texting, yes it did take a few attempts to get use to the sensitivity of the screen keyboard but no problems now.

The only complaint I have isn't about the phone it's self but the manual. It isn't very comprehensive so I've spent a lot of time experimenting to find out what certain things do.

I've had this phone for a couple of weeks now & I love it!

At first I found it a bit odd going from a Nokia Brick to a touch screen & the manual wasn't that helpful but part of the fun in this phone is exploring.

Camera is great quality & when taking pictures it feels more like digital camera than a phone & I've not had any problems with the screen being sensitive during calls as the phone auto locks the touch screen. Music quality is fabulous & the expandable memory means I don't need my iPod anymore!

The widgets aren't as customisable as I'd have liked & There doesn't seem to be any way of turning off the very annoying predictable text ( Can anyone help with that? ). Also it is unclear at first how to turn off the keypad volume whilst leaving the ringer alone but again a little exploring & all becomes clear. The only other major gripe is that you can only customise individual ringtones for contacts you save to the phone rather than to the SIM as well. (I like to keep contacts on the SIM in case the phone goes pants)

I know this sounds like a list of gripes but they are more warnings than moans.

If I can use this phone anyone can. Now all I have to do is sort out the rubbish signal I am getting from T mobile! (Orange was much better! )

If you can't find sufficient support from the manufacturer, no upgrades, no feature downloads & it comes with a flimsy & basic level user guide, you know you are buying a brick. Next time, I should check these out before looking at the actual phone. Customising is Samsung's pitch on Tocco. Only 8 widgets, with birthday, two clocks, games (one build in silly game) plus a useless fixed network info widgets taking up half of them. Using the widgets are a nightmare (no instant access, need to drag & drop). & they constantly re aligned to default if you make changes on other unrelated stuff (like charging the phone or switching off). There are no widgets for your most used features? ! What customise? Memo takes 100 characters only. Less than your standard text message. Is there a point? If you sync with Outlook, you can't read much of the info because of insufficient memory. So most details on your Calendar, Task, & Memo are lost. Contacts sync from Outlook have their postcodes altered. You correct them on the phone but you can't input alphabets! I am unable to copy contacts to SIM. There are a lot more if you do this, then you can't do that phenomena. Like when you sync, you can't read your phonebook. 1990's UI. I have yet to make calls, surf the net & take pictures (thinking of returning the phone) but I heard they are a nightmare. I like the shape, quite tactile but incredibly boring look, like old phones. Limited features, I get bored in less than 3 hours. I am still playing with the iPhone after a week! Oh, the settings are genius gone wrong (you go through 6 to 8 levels deep only to find one thing available! ). It takes 5 clicks to trash. Big font size taking up the small screen. Really, touch screen tends to be clumsy so Samsung should design the phone to be more intuitive. I was hoping for that magic moment where I find oh, you can actually do this by touching or dragging this. Who am I kidding, this is no iPhone.

The design is great, very sleek, a lot like the Samsung Armani. I believe this could be the new iPhone.

The widget feature is cool too & the Internet lets you go on loads of sites. Very easy to use, & the touch screen only normally works with your fingers or thumb, not a stylus as I tried once.

In the past I have only had Sony Ericsson Walkman phones which I love yet I think its time for a change. Even if some of the reviews aren't the most postive. I received my Samsung f480 upgrade nearly 2 weeks ago & have had no problems at all with it. I am on Orange & the signal strength is as good as my old Sony Ericsson. Calls are clear & the phone hasn't frozen once. I nearly cancelled the upgrade to try the c902 Sony but to be honest id read more bad reviews about that phone & in my opinion it looks very old & plain. So I have kept my f480.

My only niggle is & hopefully someone will be able to help me?

I want to put some albums on my memory card but with the software given it seems to only let you do it if the albums or tracks are saved on your PC hard drive? I really don't want to copy every disc to my hard drive just to then put them onto my phone! Is there a way around this? My old Sony Walkman phone gave you a CD to phone copying option which was perfect. Help!

Tried three Tocco's from Orange, all went back. I thought the phone was fantastic, loved it to bits but to use as a phone & not a play thing, terrible, kept cutting me off all the time. One 20 min call I had to redial 6 times, no joke. Signal strength at home nonexistent with Tocco but if I put SIM in old D900, strength really good so presume it's a poor design with the internal aerial. Was gutted to send it back but if I can't use it as a phone it's a waste of time.

This is a quality piece of kit, very nice to look at & not half bad to use. My only gripe is that while texting the OK & space buttons are a little close but if your careful it isn't a biggy. The images taken by the camera on first inspection seem a little ropey, but as soon as you zoom on a saved image or transfer the pictures to a laptop or PC they come out really well. Overall very impressed & very pleased with my choice of phone.

Hi All, F480. The first impression as I pulled out of the box was Wow. & the impression continued to be good so far. Though it's just few days that I have been using this phone but I would say that its really stylish, elegant & smart phone.

The style & looks are completely professional & I am sure that it will catch attention of all those around you.

The best part is the Mobile Tracker which helps you to trace back the mobile if someone else is using his number in your mobile (if it gets lost! ). This is something new which I saw in all the instruments I have used so far.

Second option which I liked the most is security & password operated SMS, phone book etc. You can now have control over your inbox messages, phone book & keep things confidentially on selecting the option of password protect & this will help you to keep away your friends from looking into your inbox messages! Ahaha.

Of course it has its own negative points like typing a text message on touch screen is bit longer compared to a regular mobile phone.

It's like using your laptop after years of using desk top computer. You will always feel bit of un comfort in initial days but once you treat it as your baby, you are certainly going to enjoy.

I would say that overall it's a good phone to impress your pockets & keep up the good style.

So guys, will report more review in coming days once I have used it for few months & anybody who is willing to have a change. Certainly go for it.

Cheers Vivek.

Got this a few days ago, love the phone, very sleek. Texting will take a while to get used to but I really like it. Have a few questions, can anyone help?

How do you delete the recent contacts that you have texted. There doesn't seem to be anywhere in the call log or message menu that lets you delete the number you texted.

I can't put more than one number on each contact so I have to put people in twice for with their home & mobile. Is that right? Also does anyone know how to use the birthday thing? For the life of me I can't find a way to put contacts birthdays in! & seeing as I have forgotten quite a few this year, I really need too!

A case of design over function. Had my original phone replaced by Orange due to call drop out after 10 to 15 seconds. Second phone did exactly the same. Now Orange state it is a known problem & they are working with Samsung to produce a fix. Originally they refused a refund but under sale of goods act they can't refuse as there is a fault with the manufacture of the phone that is widely known & accepted by themselves. Search the Internet & you'll find Vodafone are having the same issues. It's the phone that is defective & mine was the second version with the updated software. Great phone to look at, very sleek, but long winded & if you want to make calls with no problems, forget it. I am sending mine back, I want a phone that works not a phone that the manufacturer & service provider both know there's a fault with. I've seen the Olympic advert about keeping in touch. Not with this phone you won't!

From day one all phones dropping calls whether making or receiving calls. Had Orange run through the diagnostics even had mine replaced with a new Tocco phone to eliminate a faulty batch but to no Joy.

Now Orange have told me that the phone signal strength is not as strong as other brands & we have no option other than to choose a different brand or make.

I don't know if this is just to do with the Orange network!?

Real shame as it probably one of the best phones I would of owned.

There is quite good memory but a memory card is suitable.

Well, the design is 100%. No two words about that, its exceptional. Don't have to moan for a bigger screen like iPhone or LG Viewty. Features, well it lacks Wi-Fi (a turn off normally) & infra-red (I am sure Samsung forgot that, although its getting increasingly outdated). The usability is superb. Imagine browsing 2 phones on Bluetooth like you are browsing tow computers on the LAN. It's been just 2 days & I am all but hooked to it. The phone has got 4 more buyers because of me, but unfortunately be SAMSUNG should have tried the new 16 million colour screen as used in the new SOUL. The front camera is also not usable other than for video calls.

Samsung should sort out the following to make it a perfect phone.
- Wi-Fi.
- CAMERA CONTRAST.
- FRONT CAMERA USABILITY.
- infra-red.
- SCREEN RESOLUTION.

But still I love the phone.

I have had this phone about a week now & they is only one word for it! FANTASTIC! It looks slick & sleek it is so easy to use & the battery life is utterly amazing after its initial charge I used it for three days solid before it needed charging back up.

I feel one of the best things is the touch screen I find it so easy to use & text messages can be written in no time, also unlike recent touch screen phones this one is really 1st class on others you really have to tap the screen just to get a response however this is sensitive but not too much its perfect.

One improvement I could bring up would be a few more features for example WiFi etc but other than that. Brill!

So if your looking for a stylish easy to use phone then this is for you.

I loved the size & weight of the Tocco along with the larger screen, I was a bit wary about the touch screen controls though.

I have had the phone for a week now & it does everything I need it to with the minimum of fuss.

There are long winded ways to do certain things, however most things have short cuts once you get used to it.

My advise if you fancy a Tocco, go get one.

One of my friends saw mine & then tried to get one & they had sold out in the shops local to her so popularity is increasing.

Had this phone for 2 weeks now & it's going back to Orange. Up to now I have been a big fan of Samsung phones. But this one is a bit of a letdown. I think that far too much has been put into its looks & they have overlooked the actual functional part of this phone.

Problems I have found

- Phone kept cutting off calls. This I solved by fitting the battery cover with integrated front cover then using the phone with the cover closed. It was my cheek pressing on the end call button on the touch screen that was ending the call. Very Bad design.

- the touch screen keeps freezing. Not locking but actually freezing & the only way out of this is to remove the battery. Again not good.

- Texting can be a bit tedious. But you could get used to that. One big software problem is the space key is far too close to the OK key. A bit of extra space would be nice here.

- the camera is not the best. Not terrible but nowhere near as good as my X820 or my Nokia 6300 which are both only 2MP but very sharp photos.

Can't really think of any positive things about this phone except that it looks flash in front of your mates & the music player is really great.

I have had the phone for about a month. Generally very good, BUT two big problems.

- Volume of speech from other end is very dependent on having the phone at exactly the right place over the ear, it seems very directional, & the quality of speech is very poor & sounds muffled usually.

- I lose lots of calls after about 5 to 10 seconds, usually incoming calls that start & then just drop out, probably about 40% of calls. Surely there must be a fix for this for what is otherwise a great phone.

This truly is a terrible phone. My phone consistently cut people off after 10 seconds of talking. I know 2 other people with the same phone they have the same problem.

Texting is huge mission in its self. A message that would normally take a few seconds to type out ends up lasting 3 to 4 minutes.

The speaker quality is very poor, as well as the camera.

If you text a lot or spend a lot of time talking stay clear of this Mickey Mouse attempt of a touch screen phone. I am happy to say mine has been returned.

This is my first review ever so bear with me. I previously owned the Nokia N70 & more recently the Sony W850i & I think this little beauty wipes the floor with them.

I got my phone on Friday & I must say that I can't fault it. Take it out of your pocket down the pub & you got all your mates looking with envy. It's sleek, thin & feels quite sturdy for its size.

The touch screen it's a different approach to what I have been used so far but I don't find it any harder to text or indeed to do anything with the phone.

The camera is as good as any, took a couple of snaps & one can compare them to photos taken with a digital camera, all you have to do is make sure you fiddle about with the settings a bit. The music player loads fast ( I got a 2Gb memory card for my phone), sounds quiet good through the phone's speakers, loud enough, the only complaint would be that the earphones are not as comfortable as Sony's but for less than £15 you can get a pair just as good. I could go on & on but I will just say BUY IT, you won't be sorry!

PS Samsung sponsoring the best team in the Premium League is an added bonus! LOL.

I think the people moaning about the phone locking during a call have not got any common sense, it is obvious why the phone locks during a call it is so you can not accidently hang up on someone.

I do agree with most people about the camera though, & also I think the only time the front camera lens is used is when your making a video call, which I think is a bit daft, you should have the option of switching between front or back camera lens.

But overall I think it is a great phone. Not quite 100%.

I recently got this phone as an upgrade. I chose it because it looked neat & had received quite good reviews. Also there wasn't anything else on the market that looked appealing. I am regretting it now though. The volume when I am on the phone is like speaker phone. Ring tones I have purchased online from Play either don't download or can't be applied as ring tones. They also get saved in files that aren't obvious to find. If I try to text message someone a contact from my contacts book it sends it as a fancy attachment (vcf format) that no one can open. All I want to do is insert it directly in a message. Are there no free games on the phone? If I select games from the menu they are headed download games. Does this mean they are not free & I will be charged for accessing them? I can't seem to download them anyway. Does the radio only work if speakers are plugged in? How does the MP3 player come on? Is there a feature that can predict text my previous phone (Motorola Krazr) remembered words, phrases that I used regularly so I didn't have to type out each time eh 2moro & l8r. There is a useful widgets feature but the camera function isn't on it & it's not obvious how to put it on? the birthday's widget still shows the birthday you have entered even after the date has passed. How do I add events & set them up as reminders so I don't forget key dates? If anyone reading can answer any of these questions I'd be grateful!

I really did waver over whether to take the touch screen plunge as I was so used to using the usual button phones. I was severely tempted to get an iPhone, however the added cost was a factor, considering I was being offered the Tocco for free. In the end, I did & was so pleased I did. I have to say, I've been a Samsung mobile phone user for several years & this is probably the best the phone I've had. Don't get me wrong, I loved my other phones (especially the D500 which I truly thought was a wicked phone). I scoured the net for reviews & found mixed ones. Fact is most people who leave reviews are the ones who have had problems or don't like something & have decided to vent. Then you hope that someone who has had a really positive experience will counter-balance it. So I figured I tried to do that. I love the size of the Tocco. That was certainly one of the issues I had when considering getting an iPhone. The widgets, I find are good as a novelty, but I don't really use them loads. The camera is decent - if I wanted better quality, I'd just use my digital camera. But this is good enough for random pictures. Previous reviewers have had problems with call clarity & reception. I've had no problems with either. I rarely see my reception drop below 4 bars (it is usually always at 5). In fact, the office I work in is apparently bad for reception. I saw a girl leaning out the window the other day trying to send a text) I get a constant 5 bars here. Ultimately, it's down to opinions. I am not keen on the Nokia's & don't really feel the Sony Ericssons have the style of the Samsung. But I know other people who hate Samsungs. Oh, one last thing if you're a previous Samsung owner, you'll find the battery life on a Tocco a hell of a lot better.

FOLLOW UP REVIEW I posted a review a couple of weeks back about this phone on the Orange network. Reception in my home with this phone was practically none existant although my Sony Ericsson W850i was usable. Anyway, seeing as I liked the phone so much I took a gamble & ordered it from Vodafone instead, as my Orange contract had expired & I was still within time to cancel my upgrade. Since swapping to Vodafone the Tocco is now usable in the home. It's still not perfect but certainly doesn't drop calls left right & centre like it did on the Orange network. Vodafone has 3G in the area so not sure if that's helping a bit. Since I use it mainly for work calls I've found that leaving the phone in certain places near me & using a headset to answer calls works perfectly. No problems now for about a week. Once away from the home the signal strength max's out. I am now going to keep the phone as it is finally usable & I can live with the slight problems at home. The only downside for me is the poor video recording as the quality is not that good. Overall, an excellent phone!

I just got this today as an upgrade. At first it was very weird to use as this is my very first touch screen phone, but I soon got used to it.

Likes.
- Its small & thin.
-the keypad is great, it's so fast at texting no problems there.
- You can assign your own tones for messages.
- the memory is fabulous you can store so much on it.
- Camera is quick to take a picture unlike my U600.
- Like the Widget gizmo too very clever.

Dislikes.
- When someone is Bluetoothing a picture or ringtone, they don't go into the relevant places they are just placed on the phone, how can I do it so ringtones, music, pictures that are Blue toothed goes into the correct folders?

- It seems very much a man phone! I am used to a pink U600 so that's probably why I think this one is mannish! Would have liked it in another colour other than black!

- Volume on MP3 ringtones etc is low

Overall though this is a fantastic phone & I would recommend for a first touch screen phone that you get it.

There are a few bad points, as I am used to a Sony cyber shot the picture quality does not look as good, also I would like to be able to change the picture that appears on my phone when you lock it. The calculator has no percentage button, however the applications menu does have a convertor.

I have a work around for the predictive text problem, input the name of the recipient then add your text message. I would like to find out how to put predictive text on my phone.

Downside for me, when you're talking in private it sounds like the other caller is on a hands-free set, not as clear as previous phones. It also kept cutting off & the reception wasn't the best. I know it can't be a bad coverage area because my other phones worked perfectly. I have sent it back to Orange now, & have a week to decide what phone to go for, judging by past reviews, I must have had a faulty one. I am very tempted to get another.

I've never left a review for a mobile phone before, but feel I have to leave my comments about this Samsung F480 Tocco Mobile Phone. I was dubious about trying a touch screen phone as I've always thought it was a bit gimmicky & they never really worked that well, according to reviews at the time. However, I took the plunge & was really glad I did. I loved this phones interface, the touch screen worked like a dream, the drag & drop functionality, although limited to a few applications, is a great idea, texting is really easy also with a usual mobile keypad layout utilised, so tapping a key gives you a different letter depending on the number of times you press it & the look & feel really make this phone stand out. Wow what a start & love the new mobile.

BUT, I got home from work, activated the SIM card, sat & admired the phone a bit more. Then looked at the signal strength, where were those little bars? None to be seen, oh hang on, there's one. No, gone again, back again, gone. What a nightmare. I am not in a great area for signal strength, I know that, but my Sony W850i regularly has 3 or 4 bars in the house, & I can make decent phone calls with it, a must as I work from home a lot! Even my partners Motorola managed 2 or 3 bars, although the call quality on her phone was not great. I tried making a few calls with the Samsung but they either dropped straight away or lasted less than a minute. Stepping outside, which helps the other makes of phones, doesn't help. My area on Orange isn't 3G so switched the Network to GSM rather than allow the phone to do it automatically. Still no improvement, so I sent it back for a replacement, just in case it was faulty. Got the new one the next day, charged it up, tried again, no luck. Same issue, swapped the SIM back to the Sony & hey presto, 3 or 4 bars.

So, to sum up, the phone's features are brilliant, the touch interface is awesome, but if you're in a weak (ish) signal area I really wouldn't bother. We've had Samsung's years ago & had similar, although not as bad, issues. The technical (? ) guys at Orange reckon that Samsungs as a whole suffer from weak signal strength, so I am afraid I won't be trying another Samsung. Think I'll try the LG Secret next.

I'd love to keep the phone, but if it can't do the basic job of a mobile phone, at least for me anyway, it's basically a MP3 & video player. Sorry Samsung, after such a promising start you just left me with a lovely piece of modern art. Shame, loved it.

Only had my new phone today, just getting used to it, however it's A star so far.

I would like to know how to put predictive text on my phone. Every time I go into messages I have to turn predictive on. Any help anyone. Also it could have done with a percentage button on the calculator function.

A great phone so far.

The phone is excellent, BUT I have a problem with the camera, I only get good & clear images when I put the resolution to 320 x 240, higher than that the quality goes down. So I returned the phone & got a new one, but the same problem stays, the store I bought it from is going to call Samsung & ask if this problem is common. Did anyone have the same problem & you where you able to fix it, PLEASE reply.

Just got this amazing phone on contract, added an unlimited Internet bolt on, so glad I did!

This phone is fantastic for browsing, it's so easy to read on the great clear screen & the touch face & scrolling is amazing!

I am just about getting used to writing text messages, but when its plugged in on charge it's a whole different ball game!

It becomes really sensitive, the slightest touch & instead of an H you get HHHHHHHH!

Lots of fun though, camera is awesome, features are awesome. The video playback is not excellent but acceptable.

I have only ever had Sony Ericsson's before & found navigating them really easy, this Samsung is a bit long winded at times, it takes a while to get through the menu's to find what you want.

But on the whole an amazing, slim, up-to-date phone & I am so happy as I am on a 24 month contract! Don't think about this phone. JUST GET ONE!

Have fun.

Hi, I have had this phone for a week now & I love it. Having said that I have never had the iPhone (which is what this phone is being compared to).

The F480 can Bluetooth between phones (iPhone cannot). This is lighter, slimmer & thinner than the iPhone. You can apply MP3 to messages, which is always a bug bear for me (boring I know).

However, I am having a problem hearing callers (which I always have with my phones) but my husband is fine with it.

My only WISH now is to be able to find a solution (tried volume buttons, not a headset person, the loudspeaker is OK but what if I want a private conversation? ) & it would be 110% for USABILITY.

Also is the ringtone volume loud enough. Cheers.

Had the F490 for 2 weeks & hated the fact that by the time I had taken it out of the pouch & unlocked it I had missed the call! The constant unlocking of the touch screen was so annoying. Changed it for the F480 & what a difference. I love it. The only small thing is the time the camera takes to capture the picture most of the time my subject has moved or got bored. I love the look, much more proportioned than the F90 & so much easier to use (I am no spring chicken either! ) it is like Samsung realised some of the problems with the F490 & left them out of the F480. I would really recommend this phone. My daughter now wants it too.

This is an amazing phone, so easy to use with excellent UI & touch screen. I would be pushed to see any phone topping this for size function & for being an excellent phone. The only glimmer of this being toppled is the second gen iPhone but then it still seems so geared towards the US market, but who knows.

Excellent phone Samsung, love the web browser.

Shame there is some person who put 50% for everything but did not have the phone!

Great phone, if you are unsure go & try it & compare to the other touch phones & you will be impressed!

Just received this phone yesterday & loving it already! Like some others I was worried about the touch screen & how it would respond, but I think it's fabulous. Its lightweight, fits in your hand perfectly & is very slim line. The features are great including all the usual, music player, radio, alarm etc. The camera is good, only taking a few shots but turned out well. The screen isn't a very high resolution so that's maybe why the previous reviewer thought they were grainy. I love the widget feature, its super, a drag & drop, its great! I would highly recommend this phone! 10 out of 10.

Wow what a fab phone! I have had Motorola phones previous so was worried about getting a Samsung & also worried about how I would get on with the touch screen. The results a fab looking & easy to use phone & even with my long nails I have got used to the touch screen quickly, I may not be able to text quite as fast as previously but I am speeding up!

The camera is brilliant, the widgets are a great idea & the screen is large & very clear.

All in all a sleek little phone with masses of gadgets I am still getting used to but thrilled to have chosen it & can't put it down!

10 out of 10 Samsung!

I've had this phone for a week now. It looks really cool & fantastic, I love it, but the screen keeps freezing. It freezes 4 to 5 times a day, & even taking the battery off & putting it back again doesn't solve the problem in the majority of cases.

I haven't heard of anybody with this problem on this particular phone, so I will take it back & get a new one of the same kind. Fingers crossed the new one will work better, because this phone is so cool I don't want to give it up!

The best thing about this phone is how easy it is to use (you don't need the manual you can work it all out for yourself in no time! ) I also thought it would be much slower to text on a touch screen but this is not the case! It looks cool, has everything you need feature wise & is extremely lightweight. I love the big screen too. Only thing I would criticise slightly is the camera, considering it's a 5MP the picture quality seems a bit grainy to me. The drag & drop function is ingenious!

The phone is great, all standard Samsung menus that I am used too. Camera is OK, better than my D900 so I am happy with it, haven't put on PC yet though. Has Bluetooth, don't know whether you can voice automate it though as it doesn't come with a hands-free device (I have one from old Samsung I can use). The Scrolling on the phone is easy to use just drag your finger down to go down the list. The widgets are good fun but just a novelty factor, not that overly impressed by them! Looks very nice & the touch screen is very responsive, Texting is easy with two thumbs or holding it using one hand is just as quick! Basically I love this phone!

Down side is rubbish ringtones, so will be downloading some new ones from PC shortly!

This phone was expected on the 19th of May according to Carphone Warehouse. I am still waiting on it though. I know people that work in a phone shop & from the reports they have heard this phone is going to be fantastic. The widget technology is user friendly & the touch screen is now easier to use & reacts better than other touch phones. Its look beautiful & has got the 5MP camera it requires to keep up with new phones on the market. Although the new 3G iPhone does have a better specification when it is finally released iPhones have been reported to freeze or crash by some people, this rumour I have not heard about new Samsungs. To get a better idea on the f480 is you look at clips on You Tube. It's good!
