I've been using Samsung E590 for 2 months now. Here's my simple review.

PROS.
- Cute & simple design by Jasper Morrison, a well known industrial designer!
- Nice pressing feel on the keypads & also really bright in the dark.
- Good joystick.
- 3MP camera with autofocus which is quite OK.
- Speaker is quite loud.
- Comes with beanbag tripod which is very nice!
- 90MB phone memory which is quite big for a small phone.
- Very light.
- Music player with 4 presets (Normal, Classic, Jazz & Rock) & 3D sound feature which is quite OK.
- Music playback (can listen to songs when messaging, browsing etc).
- MP4 video recording. I think the quality is better than 3GP.
- Voice recorder, Bluetooth (A2DP) & FM Radio.
- Memory card, USB, charging port are nicely covered.
- 2 UI to choose from, Black or White. Normal Samsung UI (I.e Samsung L700) is in White UI only.
- the Snapshot theme & wallpaper is cool & simple!

CONS.
- No ringing tones profiles, only normal & silent mode. Not much of a problem for me.
- Camera without flash.
- Only have 4 message tones. Other Samsung models have much more than that. Plus, MP3 files can't assign as message tone, only can assign as ringing tone (general or specific to certain contacts) & alarm tone.
- Some might say that it looks like a toy phone.
- It might be not suitable for user with big hands because the phone is small.
- According to a review on another website, games only can be downloaded via WAP but I don't play games on my phone so I didn't try to download any. Nevertheless, it has 5 pre installed trial games.
- According to a review on another website, the phone will have slow reading for memory card. I didn't use any memory card, only rely on phone memory because I don't listen to a lot of songs from my phone.

To conclude, I think Samsung E590 is suitable for those who just want to use it for calling & messaging purposes but at the same time, they also need the other features (I.e MP3 player & camera) whenever they want it (without paying so much attention). So, if you are a basic user wanting to be different (small phone looks like a toy with MP3 player & 3MP camera) & want it fit in nicely in your pocket, Samsung E590 might be yours.

This phone is very light, a bit too light if you ask me. It feels so fragile & I just can't use it like a normal phone! Also, when I play about 3 to 4 songs out loud on this phone, it just dies. I wouldn't say it is a very reliable phone when calling people, it keeps on crackling & one it cut me off. I am hoping to get an LG Viewty for my birthday instead of this.

Sending it back to Orange. Can't hear it when it rings in my pocket. Can't alter the text input method. Can't hear anyone on the other end of the line. Fiddly & awkward navigating through too many functions. Not fit for purpose of making & receiving calls or text messages. Please can someone make a phone with really good battery life i.e. 4 days plus, really easy to use that just does calls & text messages & nothing else but does them all fantastically?

When I want Internet I'll use my MAC. When I want a film I'll go to the cinema & when I want music I'll switch on my hifi at home.

I have lost patience with technology & am having my life back instead.

I was wanting to purchase a device that would provide me with the ability to communicate, take the occasional snap, & potentially use it to listen to MP3s or the FM radio. I have other devices for my more advanced requirements. I have been delighted with this device which demonstrates how far technology has progressed. 5 years ago a device of these dimensions with this technology would have been regarded as setting the standards in many ways. This device is an ideal portable communications unit.

If Samsung release a newer version of this with HSDPA & an HTML browser it will sell by the truckload, just like, I am sure, this one has. In the UK this device can be purchased very reasonably. I recently saw it for 250 Euros in Ibiza, Spain & here the CPW is selling it for £19.99! An absolute bargain.

I just bought this phone & I just can't sync it with my PC! I tried downloading the PC suite but then it doesn't work! I bought it because I thought I could easily sync it with my PC for picture, video, & audio transferring. It's too annoying!

They should have included the PC Suite with the package. I guess I have to buy a memory card before accessing the phone? It's poor. Imagine you took a picture & its save in your phone memory then you want to transfer it to PC by USB then it can't connect. How was that? Another test dummy phone.

About 3 months before my phone contract came to expiry I wanted to do some research on phones as I did not want to get a phone with stupid amount of feature which would not be used properly & also as I really did not care for functions. For me, my camera I use for pictures, iPod for music etc. So I just wanted a standard phone which did not look too rubbish but something that would deliver. I have used a fair few brands & my recent phone Sony, was not to my liking.

Anyway I stumbled across this little phone, at some point, & liked the phone. It was slim, small & appeared to be really good from my deduction of all the reviews & what I saw in the shops. Anyway this phone pretty much came on top & my Fiancé had a Samsung which she loved & said was awesome, so I thought this chap would be the ticket.

Looks wise it is a great phone & it is slim & light & I loved the look of the phone. Buttons in the right place & just right for my hand. However the speaker bit is rubbish as you cannot really hear anyone & the person on the other hand cannot hear you. The reception is good as I have had issues but when changing the SIM card to another phone it had the same issue so it's not the handset. When you speak to someone it's a very poor quality sound, but again it's not a big thing & far more important things to worry about.

It's annoying as when it runs low a lot of the other functions cannot be used. It's the first time this has happened on any phone I have used but it is rubbish & I like to run my battery down fully so I have to let it run down by itself whereas before I would have had a few songs running on a loop to run the battery down.

It's annoying there is no software for the phone, which has to be downloaded, that is compatible with Macs. I love my MAC but cannot find software for a MAC so I would love to transfer some tracks for the phone for ringtones.

Anyway apart from that it serves its purpose, a phone that is all. I am impressed with the camera bit but to be honest minor gripes for a great looking phone.

Firstly I am going to say this is an OK all round phone but before I begin to seem biased I will lay down a fair review of this phone.

Pros.

- Small size very light, you will almost always forget you have it in your pocket.
- 3 megapixel camera, good quality photos & loads of space to store (100MB).
- Price, I got mine for like £40 which is about $100 which is really cheap for a phone like this.
- Music player is actually quite good! Quality is quite good!

Cons.

- Battery life is horrendous (no I am not one of those people who just hate everything. If something is going to get you down about the phone is it's the battery, if you play music for like 2 to 3 hours nonstop it will flash & you won't be able to use any features as the battery will be low).
- Phone reception is also terrible, you can hardly hear the person whose on the other end & it gets really annoying because all you can hear is mumble.
- Screen size is quite small & although the pictures you take are quite impressive, you won't see them that well, you'll have to transfer them to your mate's phone or the computer for a better look.
- Screen scratches very easily & the paint job on the phone actually begins to fade after two to three weeks which is seriously not cool!

All in all this is a good phone & I would recommend it for anyone, this is a fair review, consider all of the pros & cons before purchasing this phone, especially the battery life, it will seriously disappoint!

Happy shopping!

Having ditched the ever useless U600, I have been using a very old Samsung for a couple of months. Then I saw the E590, & bought one brand new on eBay (not due an upgrade just yet).

I love its simple design although this isn't something everyone will agree with I guess. It's just I like the minimal look of it. The keypad, despite being so small, is an absolute joy to use. Love it.

The camera is very good, & MUCH faster than the ridiculously slow shutter speed on the U600.

Menu's etc are standard Samsung, as found in all the latest models. Very user friendly, & the screen resolution gives incredible clarity. Font size is not so large & cumbersome as other Samsung models, so is very in keeping with the phones small & unassuming design.

I really do love this phone, & thus far have had none of the shocking problems I had with my U600 (resetting whilst texting etc).
