This phone is possibly the worst I have ever owned, however there are some pro's. Let's start with the keypad. Before it has been slid up, there are 5 big keys. The one on the right is the on & off switch, so if you sit down with it in your pocket, then even the slightest bit of pressure will turn your phone on, therefore sending a massive vibration rummaging through your pocket.

Next let's move on to the text pad. This is IMPOSSIBLE to use as there is no spacing between the keys, so you thing yourself constantly writing words with jibberish in the middle.

The screen quality however is OK. The graphics are not the best compared to phones like the Sony Ericsson's, but the screen compliments the design layout quite well. Samsung describe this phone as an MP3 player, but the sound is extremely tinny & echoes (literally). The memory is bad, however the camera is actually quite good. In daylight, the images are so clear, but at night, the images are very pixelated & are hard to make out what they are, mainly due to no flash, but due to Samsung's incapability of making a phone with a better camera.

Finally the ergonomics & aesthetics come in to play. This phone at first glance does look very tacky with the mirror like plastic down the sides, however at a closer look, everything seems to just fit for instance, when it is slid down, Samsung has added just a very slight lump in the plastic, perfect for sliding up & down. Too hold the phone is also a pleasure, it is just wide enough, so it fills up your hand perfectly, that combined with it not being too heavy, makes it a good weight to carry, or have in your pocket.

So in conclusion, this phone is certainly the most impractical to use, but it is like marmite, you either like it or you don't, in my view, I hate it, but for you, that may be different.

This phone is the best phone I ever had. It's slim & the slide works smoothly. Rubbish camera with no flash. It's got MP3 player with no memory card which makes no sense. Keypads are a bit tricky. Battery life is good & charges quickly. Loads of features & nice tones. THIS PHONE WOULD NOT BREAK, I dropped it few times but not even a scratch. A great phone.

Hi it's me again, adding another review! Read my last review. I forgot to add this:

Hey, this phone NEVER breaks. I went swimming & as I was changing into my swim gear it fell onto the solid floor covered in puddles of water! It was wet when I picked it up so I expected it to be broken. I quickly dried it & turned it on. It worked! Not even a scratch! I have also dropped it on concrete many times. It hasn't broken once on me! I love it because of that! If you want a phone that you can rely on, this is the phone to get. Though the keypad is really irritating & alls it does is hurt your fingers.

One of the most reliable phone I have owned. I have dropped this phone four times now, twice on concrete, & it's like a brick. Besides the batter flying off few feet, only minor scratches. It works great with AT&T here & still receives signals even if you go hiking into far far away. The functions are very easy if you are used to Nokia. The only complain I have is the design.

I think the design is nice though could be slimmer for the price of it. The features are OK though you'd expect better memory & camera. The keypad is tricky to use when you're in a rush. Overall, I'd say it is overpriced, but a nice phone.

This is a great phone, however I have one major issue with it. The battery cover is always coming off! Every time it rings & I try to take it out of my pocket, it slips off, what is wrong with it? Even when I slide it open I have that fear that it is going to flip straight off, I feel this is a major issue & if anyone else is having this problem please say, I have the white one, soooo much better looks than the bog standard black one.

In conclusion I like this phone a lot & it has suited my needs well, keypad isn't great & the problem mentioned above I a big issue, shell out a bit more & you can have the d840, slimmer & better looking.

Am using this phone since 6 months. I have got no complaints about this phone but the only cons about this phone is MEMORY SLOT. What's the use of having a MP3 phone when it doesn't have a memory slot? & the slide mech. Is too good when compared to all the leading brands in the market. As everyone mentioned battery life is very bad. The last 2 units of the battery runs out very fast, that's why one can not relay on the 2nd half of the battery in this phone. Other than this the phone is pretty good.

I have owned a lot of top end mobile phones and this one has to be the most user unfriendly I have had. The company that sold me the phone even agreed with me upon going back for assistance. Example video playback why is this not full screen instead of 20%? Try downloading screensavers off the net, not user friendly at all. Very nice in appearance and features also screen resolution is great, what happened to accessing camera settings and saving them? I'll pass on the next Samsung mobile TY

Samsung created the D500 & won the mobile phone of the year award in 2005. The follow up to D500 was the D600 which lacked the appeal but did come with a memory expansion slot. D500 was one of the best phones I had used its strengths being:

- Small Size
- Fantastic feel of the sliding mechanism
- Fantastic call clarity (uses a proprietary Samsung technology to give crystal clear sound when you use the phone)
- Great display (262 K color the best in business)
- 90 MB of memory (a phone is a phone & an ipod is an ipod don't get confused between the two!)
- 2 MP camera (a phone is a phone not a digital camera

Before you get confused in my love affair with the D500 let me get to the D800. Samsung is one organization I have learnt to respect from utter disaster in design & product quality to the brilliance that their products exhibit today will be a good B School case study. The D800 is a labour of love ( or should I say razor hate). I can almost visualize a short stocky Korean (remember Odd Job from the Bond Flick Gold finger) in a meeting room in Seoul, shouting at his team to kill the Motorola RAZR brigade. Get me the RAZR killer you fools, get to the drawing board, give me slim..... & lo'behold D800 appears. This one looks sleek, definitely class... The black color with chrome covered sides will give other phones the Hee bee d'jee bees for some time. You will certainly get popular with this one. It brings the magic of D500 back certainly. Lets get to the pros first:

- Fantastic slim body
- Great Slider Mechanism
- Great Bright Display (nothing better in the market place)
- Simple Menu navigation
- Supports Bluetooth 1.2
- Supports Stereo Headset profile
- EDGE ready
- Triband Radio (almost the whole world is covered)
- 90 MB of storage (about 20 MP3 songs)
- 1.2 MP camera with flash (you wont miss the 2 MP here I am sure)
- Good Battery life (charge every other day)
- Games & Downloads from www.samsungmobile.com
- Java application support
- Great world clock application
- MP3 ring tones supported
- 1000 Contacts & 200 SMS can be stored on phone
- TV out function (watch your pics on TV through a cable)
- Pixel View (Samsung document viewer, useful application)
- Killer Feature : Built in Voice Dial for your contacts : No training required ( yes none required) => just say dial my darling to speak to your loved one (major reason to buy this one)

Lets now look at some Cons:

- Slim in RAZR meant a no feel good keypad, Samsung maintains the same feel could have done better here
- Space for a transflash (where do you buy one ?) or MicroSD would have been great
- Screen is large & is susceptible to scratches

The pros far out weigh the cons. The phone is available in grey under 12 K so is a steal.. Check it out & drop those Motos & Nokia's for ever.

I had my D800 only a few weeks before it was dropped on the floor, the screen cracked & now won't work, I have tried everywhere to have it fixed but no luck so far, I think the design of the phone is too flimsy, so in the mean time I am back with my old D500 which has been a good old friend.

I hated the keys on the D800, too easy to miss space when sending texts. The phone overall though is pretty good & the best looking phone on the market at the moment. It looks nicer than the Nokia 8800, but that feels better & exudes quality. Personally the D820 is easier to use than the D800, but the D800 is better looking. Swings & roundabouts really. I have the D820 cos it still looks great & it's easier, but that's down to personal choice.

This is my third phone. And I really like the design of my new D800. The camera isn't that good compared to my w800 of Sony & it hasn't got an expandable memory slot either. But who uses all these things. It's all about the looks, unless you need it for work. But yeh, this is the best looking phone out now. (8800 is just freakin ugly, 3250 is huge, v3i is oldschool)

But there is one big issue! That is that the battery life is just so BAD! compared to the w800 which has a battery life of over 7days!, when it's on standby! D800 can only do 3 days at most!

My new Samsung D800 is the greatest phone on earth & I will not have a bad word said about it. It has no faults so far & the camera is ideal for taking a quick snap. I love the feel & look of it & the slide opening makes it a very touchy feely phone & it works very smoothly. 100% all the way.
