This phone is tough as old boots, mine's been dropped countless times, stepped on, submerged, buried in sand & it still works fine (looks very battle damaged though).

I am not a mobile connoisseur by any means, but due to my job & lifestyle I need a phone that can handle rough treatment, & this is it :).

The Samsung D500 is, in short, one super of a phone. I've had mine for almost three years & not once has it failed me in any way. The design is great, it has some good features & it is very fast to respond.

I think I will finally upgrade to a phone with a better camera, however for it's time, the D500 is a great phone.

A good phone its now out of production but still great it has a good camera that feels much better than 1.3 mp the memory isn't great but enough to store about 25 songs its quite loud & the MP3 player is OK a micro SD slot would be great but it's easy to use it looks nice & it is really really tough I have dropped it out my window before & only a few dents overall a OK phone 7.5 out of 10.

I got my D500 soon after it came out in early 2005, & having had two previous Samsung mobiles knew it would be good, but it has surpassed all expectations.

It is with a heavy heart that I say that phone has finally given up on me, but during almost 3 years it has been a loyal & hard worked phone.

I now find myself looking for a replacement & nothing seems to come close that is available on the market so am genuinely looking to buy a second hand one on eBay. That is how highly I rate this phone. In the past I always changed phones, but this one just does all you need & doesn't let you down.

It may not be the most flashy or have all the bells & whistles of some phones, but if you need a phone just to make calls & text, plus be a bit more handy every now & again, this is just the job!

I am in love with this phone it has saved my life after having months of trying to live with my silly Nokia 7373! My friend has given me their old Samsung D500 & it is so nice to be able to rely on your phone not cutting out one minute in to a phone call!

It is annoying how I bought an expensive phone that lasted for no time at all & now I have been given this phone which is a few years old & its lovely! But I am impressed by it, I no longer have to carry a charger around with me!

P.S. Nokia 7373 is a shambles of a phone.

This is an amazing phone by Samsung again!

The camera is everything you would expect from a 1.3 mega pixel camera.

It is loud as well without the little speaker plugged in. You can also make it even louder by typing *#8999*8378# & selecting H/W test then AUDIO SETTINGS then scroll down to IIS NORMAL & turning up the EAR GAIN to any number you want the max is 95 but it distorts at that volume, then all you have to do is save & play your music & listen to the difference it makes! It is like a little stereo you are caring around in you pocket!

All the features are great on this phone, I have got one in black & it looks great!

I would recommend this phone 2everyone it is excellent!

It it's the best. The only thing you can't do is when you record music from cds you can't use them as your ring tones. I am hoping to buy a new Samsung but don't know what one is best.

If you camera is switching off when you trying to turn it on the problem is static that has built up in the camera switching mechanism. Solution is to dismantle the phone & unplug the camera form the main board plu it back it & voila it will work again. The white screen problem is your ribbon cable try knocking the phone on the back. Take the battery off & with 2 knuckles just tap it. About as hard a force as it would take to crack an egg maybe a little harder & it should work I must warn you this is sort of a temp fix. Save you money & have the ribbon cable replaced.

I had this phone for ages & loved it. Knocked a few points off for features because there's a lot of stuff I never used & these games weren't up to much. Apparently the sliding noise can get annoying, but that just added to my amusement, ha-ha.

One of the best things about this phone though, is the drop-ability! I swear I must have dropped it about a million times with no real problems (a couple of scratches, that's it).

Sadly, I had mine pinched & they don't make them anymore, but I liked this one so much, I got another Samsung for my new one, I am hoping it's as drop friendly (it's not a habit or anything, I just have a poor grip)!

Well I got this phone for Christmas 2006. Samsung do not make it anymore, so my parents bought me one off eBay. It was new & boxed with all the extra's though. Well when I 1st got it I loved it. Nice colourful wallpapers, great camera, easy to use buttons.

But then by January the bit at the bottom of the phone (when it is closed) has been worn away when I slide it up & down. The phone got stiff to slide & eventually the screen turned white, I could not get a picture.

I took it to the local phone shop where the man said I needed a new ribbon inside (something to do with the sliding up & down) so it cost me 25 pound, but it worked. So it was all good again, but now the cameras not working. When I turn it on, it flicks straight back off again & won't let me take a picture. Can anyone help me?

The phone does look good however, & if you are thinking about buying it then do. But just make sure that you can get it from somewhere good, because seen as though Samsung have discontinued it, you can't send it back to them so its quite rubbish really, but other than that its a good phone yeah :))

Can anyone tell me why my camera broke & how to fix it please? xxxx

I had my d500 for 18 months on contract & it has been very reliable, not as many features as other top brand phones but it does what it does very well indeed. I have dropped this phone so many times & it has proved to be a tough little thing. Easy to navigate around the menu, not a bad size memory & excellent build quality.

I received my upgrade today which was a Sony Ericsson w850i. I was not impressed with the build quality compared to the Samsung one bit.

Manufacturers are cramming way too much stuff on these little devices now, & it seems that the build quality is suffering from it.

This phone is so bad I will be giving it to my 16 month old as a toy. I have gone back to my old Sony Ericsson P910i which is reliable, easy to navigate, doesn't switch itself between predictive text & all capitals on a whim, can actually back up the phone to SIMM (oh dear Samsung, what led you to leaving that one out? ! ) & looks less of a joke.

I am sure there are people who think this is the best phone but I am certainly not one of them. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE AT ANY COST! & do not accept it as a gift either.

Great phone, loved this phone, but the only thing wrong with it is if the phone is in my pocket & I get a call I go to take out the phone & it slides up & answered it & sometimes it slides up when I am walk but apart from that it is a great phone.

Quite a good phone but after about 6 months started having problems with buttons not working & not being able to scroll through the menus. God size & reception with a good battery life, down side is the memory & unable to switch all your numbers from the phone to your SIM card when you need to upgrade.

Well this phone is very good, had it for 15 months & I had no problems with it. The only thing it lacks is probably the memory because 92mb isn't really enough when you want more music on it. But overall it's a superb phone.

I have brought the D500, it is the best mobile phone I have ever owned & I have owned at least 12 mobiles in the past 14 months, I think it is brilliant with how much memory it holds, the D500 cant be beaten, I think the price of the mobile is way too much thaw, I am currently on my second D500, as my first one was stolen. The camera picture quality is better then most digital cameras & the voice recordings are clear as day light. I have not found one thing wrong with the D500 as yet. Defiantly a must own for style & performance.

The design of this phone is great, It feels compact & very comfortable to use. I like how the camera is concealed beneath the slide so it is protects. Though writing a text message is difficult as you have to hit the buttons sideways because the ridges at the side get in the way. Features wise the phone is ok, but there are a very limited selection of themes & these are not upgradeable. Text messaging functionality isn't great, if you spell a word wrong you can't go back highlight it & correct it you have to delete the whole word & put it in again. The loud speaker is ok but if you then have to press numbers (say in an automated phone service) you then have to delete them all before you can turn the speaker off. The phone book is a bit annoying, you cannot display just phone or sim numbers you have to see them all, so then you see everyone twice - if you delete the numbers from the sim you cannot copy them all back you have to do it one at a time. Uploading games is not easy, you have to do it via bluetooth & set up your phone as another network, a very complex way of doing it. I have never even used half of the 80mb memory but if you did use it all it isn't expandable.

This is an extremely user friendly mobile, I run my own business & have found it beneficial on many occasions when out of the office. It's easy to use & has a nice feel to it. Since purchasing the phone I have brought two more for work associates & it has made our jobs so much easier having all this technology at our finger tips. In my eyes it is defiantly the business mans phone & one that I can recommend.
