I thought this phone looked OK & had some useful features but I was very disappointed in the battery life. This is the worst telephone I have ever owned. I should have returned it to the store or Samsung but like a fool I tried to carry on.

Just bought the C300 & find it absolutely perfect as a simple but functional mobile. My previous phone had a camera but I never used it. The C300 slips into my shirt pocket very nicely. I find that simple ringtones & wallpapers are more than adequate, bells & whistles don't excite me much.

For those people who seem to find difficulty with changing from predictive text, the instructions are quite clear.

- Press the right soft key until the input mode indicator you want appears T9.
- Then predictive A.
- Then ABC mode 1.
- Then Number mode No Display.
- Then Symbol mode.

Well done Samsung.

I only need a phone to make calls & send & receive texts, so this basic, cheap mobile is ideal for me. I like it's shape & form & it is just about compact enough for me. My only minor criticism is it is slightly too deep (the width & length of the phone are perfect). I can thoroughly recommend the phone to everybody who just wants to make calls & send texts.

The keys are reasonably chunky, definitely bigger than Nokia & Sony Ericsson. It's a reliable handset only let down by dubious ringtones. That aside you can't really go wrong here.

As with Jana (1st Jan review) I bought this as a replacement for a terminally broken U600, using a cheap PAYG handset on contract until the upgrade scenario improved. C300 is simply great. Calls & texts are handled admirably, battery is solid. If you want a no-nonsense phone that doesn't think it's a miniature laptop then here you go.

This phone has no camera. This phone doesn't play MP3s. This phone doesn't connect well to the Internet. But here's some news people, a camera takes the best pictures & MP3 player plays the best music & a PC is best for the Internet. What this phone does is be a phone & a great little phone at that. Great signal. Tremendous for texting & loads of talk time. What more do peeps want for £20.

If you want to make calls only & send texts, that's a perfect phone for you. I bought it as a substitute phone when my U600 (that's real rubbish) broke down & I have to say, always works well, easy to use, small, lightweight & after all, design is good too. It's definitely better & lasts longer than many fancy phones.

Recommend it, get it, excellent value for the money! Reminds me of my good old D500, that was so good too, I am missing it!

For the money this is fantastic. I was looking for a budget mobile phone & was offered a Motorola with basically nothing apart from the ability to send & receive calls & this Samsung which does so much more for the same price & looks semi stylish as well! What's annoying is the fun stuff that's bundled with the phone, it is all truly dire, but when you sit back & realize all you're getting with this bargain basement phone, now that is fun & a great mobile bargain. Recommended 100 per cent.

I am one of those people that's very clumsy & I am always breaking things. So this phone is perfect for me because it's sturdy & solid. It is a very user friendly phone, my dad has one & as well as me, & he's never been good at using fine, but he finds the C300 very easy to use.

The C300 has a simple design & there aren't many features to it. But what more do you want for 20 quid? !

I don't see the point in complaining about the phone not having Bluetooth or a camera, because if you wanted that, buy another phone, this phone was designed to be simple & easy to use.

I would recommend this phone to anybody who just wants a cheap, user friendly phone.

This does what it says on the tin. It's a mobile phone, I.e. You can call people, (almost) wherever you are.

It doesn't have all the features that some phones have but they're not mobile phones, they're multimedia devices, most of which are a jack of all trades, master of none.

& I don't like the idea of spending a lot of money on something that does a lot of things poorly & is fragile. If you want a significant portion of your life in one place, just tape the separate things together; they will work better.

Cons, tones are quite loud, WAP & GPRS never worked (not really a problem), messages are not easily saved & it can't vibrate & ring at the same time.

Summary, few 'features', cheap, sturdy, works.

- Easy to use.

Bad points.
- Terrible ringtones.
- Obviously has none of the popular additions such as MP3 or camera etc.

This phone does what it was made for very well, it's good if you are on a budget & don't need or want a camera or MP3 on your phone or if it is your first phone.

It's the cheapest phone I have ever purchased & it's design is far better than any of the cheapest Nokia phones which retail for the same price!

I just love this phone. It's small, it's easy to use & it looks good. So long as you are looking to make & receive phone calls & send & receive texts, & not an awful lot else, this phone is fantastic. Yeah, if you're looking for a camera & a MP3 player then this phone is not for you, but it does the essentials faultlessly. Ring tones are dodgy, but the vibrate alert is perfectly adequate on its own. I am very happy with this simple & effective phone: I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an easy to use, cheap, cheerful, basic model. For me it ticks all the right boxes.

It costs under £20! What do you expect?

It has a great design for this price, slider is nice & smooth & not cheap & plasticky. It does what it is meant to do, send & receive calls, SMS & MMS & it does these well.

If you want any more, then spend more money on a top of the range phone.

The phone is just great for someone who only needs a phone to call & text. It is great at doing that & battery life is very good also. Easy to use keyboard, nice slide, beautiful design.

For those of you who asked: to use the loudspeaker, press the options key (left softkey) during the call & you'll find the first option there to turn on the loudspeaker.

To adjust the volume during a call, simply use the up & down navigation keys.

Overall, great cheap phone. But if you want MP3, camera, Bluetooth, bla bla well this is NOT the phone for you.

It's a very nice phone. It looks very good, especially if you like the sliding on feature. Is black & does exactly what it suppose to do, make & receives calls, MMS & because of that the battery life is pretty good.

Personally I advice anyone to get an iPod if wants to listen to MP3 or the cheaper version that cost no more than 50$ & has better results than any phone. Also a camera that would cost from 100 to 500$ will do much more than any phone. I paid for the phone 13$ & is for this price very good in doing no fancy stuffs.

What I dislike on it & I have to improve are the ring tones that are bad indeed. There is no infra-red to add easily them nor Bluetooth. Also there was no data cable in the box. I will buy some from the provider via GPRS if I will not find a cable, but. In rest is OK, easy to use if you had before Samsung & very good looking.

I bought this phone specifically because it DIDN'T have all the bells & whistles which the modern up-to-date phones have. I traded in my Nokia 6680 & my Motorola V3i for Argos vouchers because they were 'too much'. I have an MP3 player & a digital camera so I don't need those. After all, they are supposed to be MOBILE PHONES not multi-media centres.

I just want a simple, nice to hold, nice to text, mobile phone & that is what the C300 is. I like the tinkly tone of the ring tones to alert for calls or texts arriving. I love new gadgets & gizmos but for a nice neat little phone which is easy to use & you only want to call & text then this is a nice one to own. I've already recommended this to a friend & she wants one now :o)

It would be so much better if it had proper ringtones because every time someone rings me I just wish it had a proper ringtone so I had to buy a ringtone off my computer for £3.00 & wallpaper because the wallpapers are wick! What are you critics on about? I brought this little phone (on Orange) for twenty quid in Argos. Yes, it doesn't have a camera, play MP3's or do Bluetooth. All I wanted it for was to be able to use it as a phone (I.e. Make & receive calls) & maybe send the odd text. This does them both & also, as I found out, can receive picture messages too! (After a SIM change that is). All in all, I'd say, even with my limited technological background, I can work out the menu system with pretty much ease.

Overall, if you're after a smaller mobile phone with a sense of style, no frills, easy to use, & does what it says on the tin (or in the box as it is in this case! ) & want to replace your 'Brick', then I'd go for this little fella. It's a bargain!

PS As mentioned: I got this phone for £20 (present date: 20th Sept 2007), but it's locked to the Orange network. Not a problem, as I am on Orange anyway. However, if you're on another network, it may cost more or even be unavailable to your present network. Hope this has helped.

GOOD IDEA, POORLY EXECUTED

They wanted to make a no-frills phone that looked stylish. Instead they made a stylish looking phone with features that don't quite work.

GOOD POINTS:
- 3 alarms.
- You can extend your battery power by having the keypad only lighting up at night.
- Nice, large, soft rubber keys that don't break your nails (unlike Sony Ericsson & Moto)
- You can answer the phone or hang up by sliding it up/ down.

BAD POINTS:
- It's quite bulky.
- It won't accept tru-tone ringtones, you get a trill in your ear just for making a call.
- Slow GPRS
- Plastic surface scratches easily if you put it in your, pocket.
- Rubbish preset ringtones & screensavers.
- You have to go through a number of screens just to send & read/delete SMS.

SUMMARY:
It doesn't live up to its potential. Mine's with the recyclers already.

The design is very good, it's what made me buy the phone. It's very small & stylish. The slide feels very nice & is fairly durable. I did not mind it having very few features, as I just wanted to be able to text & call. I missed not having a stopwatch or timer though. I went through three of these phones, each with a very annoying problem; the contrast kept changing (settings stayed the same). One minute it was dark, the next it was bright.

The sound quality (while in a call) & display are fairly poor, but usable. Sending a text message is made complicated. I would consider another phone, as I did. All Sony Ericsson's £50+ seem very good!

I already own MP3 players, digital cameras, etc, so I wanted a cheap phone that just did voice & text. I didn't want to sacrifice battery life for features I'd never use.

The SGH-C300 seemed perfect. Sadly, a few days of use have shown otherwise. The SMS system in particular is atrocious. The character count is set to 918 & I can't find a way to change it. On Irish networks at least, SMS's are limited to 160 characters each. Cursor movement doesn't wrap (at the end of composing a text you have to press 'left' repeatedly to scroll to the start) & sending to a contact in your address book requires far too many key presses. Entering punctuation is painful.

The Inbox lists texts by sender only. No preview, no listing of the date/time without opening each text individually. Dialog boxes such as 'Message deleted', 'Low battery' remain on screen for an annoyingly long period of time, prolonging even simple operations. You can hit the cancel button to dismiss them, but it's an extra key press that shouldn't be needed.

It does what it says on the tin, just not spectacularly.

This is a really good phone, maybe it does not have as many functions as some of its competition but for what it is really good. To use the loud speaker function simply make a phone call & when the call connects press the button on the top left of the handset & an option asking whether loudspeaker is required will come on, press again for loud speaker.

Also it is an OK phone slightly medioca but OK. A few problems I have with it however are the texts & ringing functions, you cannot have both a vibrating & ringing function enabled simultaneously only ring or vibrate which is a bit of a nuisance as I would like to be able to hear & feel my phone ringing while I am out & about, as a result many replied texts have been delayed due to the fact that I was not aware that the phone was ringing heh. Also with the incoming phone call both functions can be enabled (ringing & vibrating) however in this case the phone vibrates first for a fair few seconds (approx 6) & by the time the ring tone kicks in the person phoning has usually hung up. Apart from these two things the phone is a good buy & not bad for £35ish (that's how much I got mine for).

Hope this helps.

Further to my earlier post, I figured out the loudspeaker controls; these & a lot of other more or less everyday features really should be included in the instructions. I still don't know how to adjust the listening volume in non-loudspeaker mode, for example. In fact, I'd rate the user manual as far & away the weakest aspect of what is otherwise a very good package indeed.

Also I most certainly did not use ampersands rather than the full word for '&' in my review, & I'd be grateful if whoever's in charge here could edit it accordingly. Thank you.

I wanted a cheap Nokia, when I walked in the shop they still have the nicest predictive & Smartphone's (still) just aren't quite there yet, so I'll stay with my old pda & a cheap phone for now. But this was so pretty & T9 predictive, so that will be just like my old Nokia 8850 that died.

Well no, I know text is just something you get used to on a new phone, but the actual way the T9 is implemented seems dumb compared to the 8850. Jumps to capitalise first word in sentence when you go from non predictive to T9, fine you might expect, but when you're not at the beginning of a sentence! That's dumb. How often are you at the beginning of a sentence if you've skipped out of predictive? Come to think of it, why am I going out of predictive so often? I really don't think this phone is learning new words. The words it knows are very comprehensive it has surprised me. But if I have to manually spell again I may have to conclude similar of their predictive.

Bedtime reading is the manual, I hope it can add words to the dictionary & I'll find out there. But I get the feeling it's not going to be so. The rest of the phone was so simple & intuitive I really don't think it's hiding any secrets.

Anyway, looks lovely, spell correctly & don't use any profane or philosophical language & you'll love it. Poor wallpaper & ringtones though & don't go to jamster like the guy above suggested, plenty of stuff on the web for getting the pictures, tones, sounds you actually want onto these s60 phones without spending 3 quid.

I wanted a new phone just for work & decided I didn't want something that was expensive & had loads of features that were on my main phone, so I decided to go for this. The phone itself looks very nice & although it has basic features it's very easy to use & takes all the fancy stuff out of pricey phones to make a good looking cheap phone.

Most of the cheap phones out there look cheap, but this phone is the opposite as it looks superb.

If you want a phone that just makes call, sends/receives texts & don't want to pay extra for things you don't want or won't use but want it to look good then go for this.

I bought this as a first phone for my daughter. It looks great, it's very easy to use, but does have disappointing wallpapers & ringtones. However if you have a PC, visit Jamster select Samsung C300 & you can download for £3.00 a go (charged to your phone with no contracts) a fantastic range of ringtones & wallpapers. Full instructions are on the site, an email is sent to your phones inbox (see inside push messages) click on link & the image is downloaded to your phone. You can then select it as wallpaper. Same sort of thing for the ringtones.

This makes a very cheap phone much more personalised for very little extra. I am well impressed.

This is a phone people.? If you want cameras then go out & by a camera. If you want Bluetooth then stop brushing your peggies. As I said this is a phone. & a good, reliable one at that. Makes calls & receives them too. Sends messages & receives them back. Cheap as chips. As they say.

This phone was made for people who enjoy having a simple, easy & fashionable phone, all in one!

Why an MP3? if the car has one. Why a camera? if there are REAL digital ones with far better quality more than 8 pixels. So if you really have class, buy it. I recommend it!

It's as simple as ABC to use this phone. I have had many camera phones & I find them pointless, have you see the tiny cameras you can buy these days & I have an MP3 player. I have heard that using a phone as an MP3 player with earphones causes radiation & that's not good. I think its quite a stylish phone, so I recommend this little fella, GREAT PHONE :)

Well, I wanted a cheap phone so I don't have to carry my work PDA around with me whilst cycling, fishing & skating.

This phone is great, good looking, good screen & good features.

It has no camera, Bluetooth MP3 but then you have to be stupid to buy this if you want them ! Surely you guys are reading the techy specs on this phone before buying?

Buy it if you want a cheap reliable 'phone' no frills, just good looking phone.

I was attracted by long standby time etc but this was nullified in my view by the truly dreadful SMS: my previous phones had decent text programs but this Samsung I found to be very user unfriendly (lots of extra keying needed) & so requiring a long time to compose a text etc. After choosing symbol option etc, it not always reverts to option being used. A figure can be inserted by repeat pressing relevant key, but some (e.g. The 1) needs far too may presses. After a full stop you not always get a capital to start new sentence. Worst of all, there is no lower case option! & how can one break off mid-text & go back to the message so far written? It seems to be wiped each time! (Saving possible but how re-activate to continue? ). Even sending can be long-winded. Outbox messages do not even carry a date, let alone a time (unless there is a way of viewing that data? ) anyone know how to overcome some of these drawbacks please?

I've had this phone for about a month now & what a fab little phone it is. £40 from Tesco, with a £10 call voucher, so that makes it £30. Great. Very easy to use, the menu is as good as any Nokia, & at times better. OK so it hasn't got a camera, but I've got one of those. It hasn't got any music, but I've got an MP3 player. If you want a good phone that does calls & SMS this is it.

Maybe I am just used to other phone structures & styles by now. I find this phone completely useless. It's annoying, the only good thing about it is the clear main menu using icons. The rest of it is pants. It's too basic, it doesn't offer what you need to do in a clear manner. It uses weird titles to describe actions. Its use of shortcuts & looping menus is awful. The Inbox in particular is driving me up the wall. Which message is which & when? There's no hope of telling unless you open each & every text in your Inbox. Bit difficult when you have 100+ messages in there.

Thanks Samsung, but no thanks. I am moving on & getting something different. Completely disappointed. Although I guess if you only want something cheap then expect something cheap. Should have known better.

I purchased the C300 today. A very sophisticated looking phone, with the slider mechanism working smoothly. I have a Creative MP3 player & a Sony Cybershot digicam. My first impression of the phone is cute & felt solid.

If you want a phone which looks good & does the job of what a phone should do I.e. Communicate, then go for it. I upgraded from a Nokia 1100 B/W phone to this after 5 yrs & am not least bit disappointed with the C300.Although my Nokia had a handy flashlight.

It weighs less than my 1100 & is much smaller. I compared the Moto W220, Samsung X520 & X300, but the rock solid built is what separated it, from other plasticky phones. Also the screen is big when compared to the tiny screen available in W220, X520 & X300. Value for money!

Exit the clamshell & enter the slider. YO! Kartik

This seems to be a great little phone, I am really impressed by its price & features. The only problem I can find is that it is possible to unlock, & make calls (or connect to the web etc.) without opening the phone, I cannot see a way to disable this functionality. I bought a sliding phone thinking that it would, like a clamshell phone, not function unless it was opened.

If you don't have a problem with this feature I would highly recommend it.

Friend bought this phone for my birthday, had to text him back 2 days later, on my old phone, to say I couldn't work with it because it wound me up to much. I have an old Nokia, which does what I need it to without too much fuss. Everything on this new Samsung just seemed to require unnecessary work.

Well amazed really. For someone wanting a nice looking phone with enough features for the not so gimmicky minded, also there is no camera.

This is a great little phone for making calls & texting your friends. Ideal for the busy mum who needs a no fuss phone, or the older person who needs a phone that they can use easily. For the money it's brilliant & not cheaply made either. So you won't look like an alien from the 1950's with this little cracker. Also you won't need to put your glasses on to read it. Hence you won't miss a call.

BRILLIANT.

Bought this phone as a better quality entry level phone, due to its large, bright screen, & neat design. Cost me £40 on virgin, with £15 credit. BARGAIN.

Enough features if you don't mind lack of camera, & small, compact, & easy to use.

Texting was weird at first after using a Nokia, but used to it after 3 days!

If you want a camera on a phone, buy a £50 3MP, 3x Optical zoon digicam from Amazon & buy this. It'll be cheaper, & work far better for you.

I don't know if it is because this phone is so new, but it is impossible to download new ringtones, I've spent a fortune trying & none of them work. Maybe it is because it is on the Virgin network? The ringtones that are installed as standard are totally rubbish, I could whistle better tunes. Getting back to Virgin, the GPRS never seems connects but Virgin still charge just for trying, I'll have to change to a better supplier I think. The phone does look good though!
