Generally nice phone to use, but with a few problems that are so annoying that I can't wait to get rid of it:

- The multiple texts issue is infuriating.

- Battery life is fairly short.

- Alarm clock doesn't work reliably.

- Clock randomly stops updating in the night, & doesn't update until a few seconds after the phone is manually turned on

The issue of the phone constantly connecting the Internet & eating all the credit can be easily resolved without downloads, though: go into Settings - Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks - Access Point Names, then use the menu button to add 'New APN'. Mine is called 'off' & as long as I select it, my phone never connects to 'O2 WAP PRE PAY' until I manually tell it to. Saves me a fortune in credit :)

I am reply to Shelley, it's actually very easy to set up your own music or sounds to used for message alerts. Firstly go into 'Folders', then press your menu button & select 'Create new', this folder must be named 'notifications' all in lower case. Then simply go to your music or MP3 file & long press on any song & select 'move' or 'copy' & place the son
in the 'notifications' file you created. Now when you open up the list to choose your ringtone or message tone any songs you have in the 'notifications' file will be there to choose. Hope this helps you out.

As for the phone, I love the way it looks & feels, got a nice weight to it. Not the easiest to use or get to grips with but persevere, get the right apps & programs as the pre-installed ones are poor & you wil be amazed what it can do. Type 'tips for i5500' or 'updates for i5500' into Google & there are loads of forums & sites to help you get the most out of this cracking wee phone!

I got this phone at Christmas & it was great at the start but now I get so many multiple messages & I can't save anything to my memory card so now it has stopped me from receiving texts for some reason, there is always a 'memory low' sign up & a 'message memory full' Even though I have deleted everything. My first complaint is the battery life. It lasts about a day. So if you want a reliable phone, go & buy another one.

It does have a lot of features but that is because of it's OS android.

I am another getting fed up with the repeating texts. I've tried everything to stop it, nothing works. I am on Virgin Mobile, but the texts only come from one person. He has gone to the trouble of changing his number, network & SIM card, & it still happens! It seems as though there is no network discrimination, since he's changed everything.

Bought this phone around 2 to 3 months ago & cannot wait to get rid of it. I have the issue with reoccurring text messages, & I cannot be heard loud enough on the phone. I took it back to Carphone Warehouse, who after 2 weeks of repairing the phone, gave it back in a worse condition then it originally was, I can now not be heard what-so-ever on the phone, & the touch screen has become very unresponsive. However, this would be perfect for a temporary phone as it works perfectly for the first month or so, & all the apps etc are very impressive.

Excellent! Had repeat texts at first but sorted when I got 3G sim (O2 Pay Go).

I use it constantly for Internet & GPS (Onboard nav is free but I installed a fuller feature sat nav as I prefer maps onboard) & charge it no more/less than any other phone I've had, except those with no Web/GPS etc.

Downloads are easy & cost nothing gprs wise if done via Wi-Fi. Saying that, most apps are tiny & use minimal bandwidth anyway. & it's fast! Web pages load really fast when on Wi-Fi/3G/HSDPA. GPRS & updates can be disabled but I get nowhere near my 500k. NetSentry app (free) monitors use & warns when near limits.

Absolutely the best feature phone I've had & it only cost me 80 quid! Just need to get Froyo now so I can move apps to SD & I'll be even more impressed.

I love this phone, I have had it since Christmas & have had no problems except the memory which means me deleting apps all the time as they will not save on my memory card. I have never had a problem with the texts - I am on Vodafone. As for someone's comments on the automatic updates not being able to turn off, if you download Android this stops it & will only allow them to update when connected to Wi-Fi or if you switch the app off. Battery life lasts a day which is good considering I use the Internet every day, listen to music all the time & play lots of games & download.

I have been having the same problem with re-occurring text messages. Sending texts is an absoulte nightmare.

Sometimes the alarm clock doesn't come on in the morning.

Carphone Warehouse say it's not our problem.

T-Mobile say it's not our problem.

Samsung say it's not our problem.

How on earth can retailers still sell this phone?

Carphone Warehouse say go to 02, 02 say download Samsung Kies, which almost took out my husband's brand new laptop, but did seem to solve the recurring text issue. However, as soon as I text 02 to claim my 'rewards' the text issue started with a vengeance. How can these phones still be allowed to be on the market with an obvious fault?

Very tiresome, although if it was not for the text issue & the fact you can't have a message alert of your own choice it would be a great one! Come on Samsung, haven't you had long enough to rectify the issues & give us a new upgrade?

This phone has been a disaster. Battery life sometimes only 7 hours. Have been told not to charge it overnight so every morning battery is flat & needs 4 hours charging. Not easy if you are out & about with work & need phone with you. Have turned off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G. As for Internet usage, phone doesn't work long enough to use it. No one can contact me because phone is either flat or on charge.

On return to sales people, they told me I could expect to have to charge it twice a day, if I had known that when I got it I would not have even considered this phone. Disastrous, would not recommend it solely because of the poor battery.

Android works well giving rich features. Easy to use too.

Not had any problems with repeat texting but that may be network related as I am on three.

The battery is not brilliant but lasts for one day at a time.

Overall this phone is worth buying if you like the Three network.

Bought this phone to replace my 6 year old mobile due to the battery lasting 1 & a half days & I could also get a better tariff then my old phone.

The battery on the Samsung is useless it lasts about an hour when in use, so I took advice of the Internet I dimmed the screen turned off Wi-Fi & GPS & it made the problem worse when I used the it as a sat nav by the time it had found my location again the battery had died.

The sound quality when talking to somebody is terrible, imagine having tracing paper over your headset & you get the picture.

The touch screen is not too sensitive it can't seem to make its mind up also when tilted on its side you have to touch the go button on the right pixel 10 times for it to work.

I wouldn't buy it again.

We got two for test for possible rollout of our company mobiles if all went well. First impressions were promising. I was well please with all the apps & the ability to get to the company exchange email (Outlook Web Access) via its mail client. Possible lone workers apps & email for managers, great.

Down sides are that there is no way to setup the exchange calendar which tends to go with corporate emails. Poor battery life. If it's getting emails pushed to it & using the background data it will last the day if lucky! Next was this dreaded issue of bleep text, bleep text bleep text. Delete the thread, have their number as a contact, update the phone, tell the phone you love it! You still get bleep text, bleep text bleep text. SO two phones back to Samsung Monday! Test Verdict is AVOID.

My teenage son has had this phone for just over a month & he's really pleased with it. He had occasional problems with repeat texts initially & appears to have found a remedy (apparently! ) If the person texting is not in the phone 'contacts' & the text constantly repeats - add them as a contact first, then display threads then hold your finger down on the repeated text thread & delete it (whilst acknowledging of course you could end up deleting perhaps a treasured message you wanted to keep) but after that the repeated texts shouldn't happen with that particular person again. Do this with each thread it happens with but my son has had no further problems. Battery life is not good & requires charging almost every day or even more if the phone is heavily used. He has no idea how to change the SMS tone to your own & is happy with the selection provided saying there is plenty to choose from if you change the SMS via the settings menu, but there are some hints if you search on the Internet. He hopes this is helpful.

No use what so ever on pay as you go. The phone wiped my credit out in under an hour.

The GPRS is permanently on, APNDROID disconnects everything including the Wi-Fi. Tried to download the other Wi Fi problem solving programs, stay alive etc., but I can't connect without the GPRS wiping my credit out. Assumed you could download to your computer & load the programs via keys, now that would be too easy. Keis won't recognise the SD card for a start. Apparently this is a Google problem.

So I am stuck, I've lost close on £30 credit, although Tesco has given me some of that back. I can't connect to the network as the credit doesn't last long enough to download the programs I need. I won't have enough memory on the phone after installing the programs, if I could get them as I can't use the SD card.

This is a really badly flawed phone. Unless you have a bottomless pocket to pay for permanent connections on GRPS keep away. Samsung have done themselves no favours as all the other Android phones they sell have a setting which turns off the GPRS. Apparently the Wi-Fi is so poor this was done on purpose.

The GPRS stays on permanently, which is BAD if you are on pay as you go. I lost £20 in 4 hours before I found out. Advised to download APNdroid, which is supposed to stop the activity on GPRS, however it also turns off your Wi-Fi, pointless as to use the phone you have to turn the Wi-Fi on, along with the GPRS.

Wi-Fi connection is poor at best, with the connection constantly dropping, which is why it uses the GPRS.

I brought an 8GB card at the same time, which is useless, as Google doesn't support this.

All in all a really flawed phone, unless you can afford to be constantly connected & you don't need any memory. Mine is being returned.

Problem with texts being repeated. Problems with original message not being received, but earlier texts being repeatedly received, often at inappropriate times. E.g. 4am in the morning! No confidence whatsoever that this phone will receive the correct message at the right time! Not happy! I am very surprised that Samsung are not dealing with this issue or at least owning up to the fact that there is a problem with it. Why is it still being sold in the shops? ! Samsung you have a problem. Samsung you have a problem. Samsung you have a problem. Samsung you have a problem. Samsung you have a problem. Samsung you have a problem. Samsung you have a problem. This phone is rubbish, I have had it just over a week & got the same text message from Tesco mobile over 100 times it comes through at all hours of the day & night sometimes 4am. The software provided by Samsung on their website 'Kies' doesn't work because it isn't supported by Google's policy & it won't let you use the SD card on the phone. BEWARE this phone eats into your credit especially on PAYG because it is constantly connecting to the Internet to get updates from Facebook, weather, twitter etc etc. None of the apps will work on the phone if you have no credit even ones which only need GPS signals such as Google maps, the built in Wi-Fi is also useless you cannot connect to any Wi-Fi device without needing credit on your mobile either. The battery is also useless it lasts around 30 to, 45 mins on a full charge when playing videos or using skype or apps.

This phone would be OK for contract users but not pay & go because you really do pay for all the credit you need to run it.

Got this phone in November, received the same text from one friend 42 times, all times of the day & night, was sent a replacement phone, same thing happened, was sent a new SIM card, still same thing happening, when talking amongst my friends it seems that the recurring problem was from people on the 02 network, either I was receiving multiple texts from them or not receiving them at all, Vodafone have admitted that Samsung are aware of this problem, although they don't seem to want to do anything about it, I have ended up changing the phone altogether, as I am self employed & cannot risk losing business, battery life is also really terrible.

Bought this phone 3 days ago. Just returned it for a refund.

It's a nice enough phone with good features etc but it's letdown by really poor battery life.

In 3 days it has been recharged 4 times. Last night I took it off charge when battery was full. Went to sleep, woke up 8 hours later & battery was dead.

I am so frustrated, I love the phone & all the apps but have had so many problems with receiving texts, especially from my 2 daughters! When I do get a text it's usually days after it was sent & then it repeats, sometimes every minute over the course of a couple of days. I have to switch my phone off at night because of the text messages that just keep coming. I have had the handset replaced, the texting problems remained. I then got a new SIM card, same story.

Can't Samsung remedy or acknowledge these problems? I am amazed at their lack of interest. Any solutions?

I have had this phone a few weeks now. After a problem with a faulty phone at the beginning it has been quite good. I also had the problem with receiving the same texts lots of times but I just deleted the contact & messages & re added the contact & I haven't had any problems since.

But now it has started charging me £1 a day to use my phone but I don't know why. If anyone knows how to stop it please could you let me know because it is using up all of my credit.

Overall it is quite a good phone.

There is a major manufacturing problem with this phone. SMS text repeating, multiple texts of the same text. The manufacturing issue is a quality control matter as only some phones have this phone. Sellers of this phone are trying to con customers by saying it's a network issue but it is manufacturing issue for which Samsung are ultimately responsible. Sellers must by law give a refund or replacement. Samsung should have done a recall on this phone. The fact that they have not raises serious concern as to trust in Samsung products & also the big retailers such as O2 & Carphone Warehouse that are still selling this product.

I was really pleased with this phone until I got multiple texts & then didn't get other texts that were being sent to me. After three visits to O2 a replacement phone & then a new SIM I finally got told that there was a glitch & that Samsung had a download that would solve it. After struggling to find any specific download to fix this glitch I downloaded Kies & tried to get a firmware upgrade only to find my phone is already running on the latest version. So seems like I am destined to always receive multiple texts. Back to the shop for a refund then! Shame as otherwise it is a good little phone. Apparently the LG android is good if not better so guess I need to fork out that little bit more to get it. Was really disappointed with Samsung help as well.

This is my 1st touch screen phone & I am impressed. Getting free apps & widgets is a breeze. Setting up email also proved reasonably easy. Battery life is not too bad, I reckon it could go 48 hours without a recharge at a push. Like a few others have commented, I do get some annoying repeated incoming texts, why is this? Can't seem to stop it but it doesn't happen with all texts. It just seems to have the problem with two numbers, weird. If I figure it out I'll post my solution.

Overall though, a really good phone.

Hi, I bought the Samsung Galaxy Europa I5500, an Android phone, yesterday, & I basically wasted £10 of credit on PAYG (Pay As You Go) before I realised & solved the problem.

The first problem with Android is Wi-Fi power management. This drops your connections & it's not a terribly smart thing for Android to do. The solution is to turn off power management.

What I did was install the following apps, & it worked. I am not sure which one of them in particular fixed it to be honest:

- Wi-fi Keep Alive
- Wi-Fi Fixer
- Wi-Fi OnOff
- Wi-Fi Reassociate
- W-Fi PowerSavingOff
- Wi-Fi ReEnabler

To those on PAYG, make sure to download APNdroid, add it as a widget to the desktop & click it so it turns red. For those who got an update & can't see APNdroid any more, just reinstall it. The Wi-Fi connection will still work with APNdroid running.

Android constantly connects to the Internet, so if you're not a monthly contract with a higher threshold before data costs much, it's best to either get on one or download APNdroid to stop apps connecting to the net through GPRS, EDGE, 3G. Wi-Fi will continue to work.

My Wi-Fi has been working on-demand ever since, & I just tap a widget on the desktop to turn it off to save battery. It's a beautiful phone & definitely worth the £90 handset cost plus £10 top up. (ha ha).

Otherwise Android is perfect, bar the occasional sluggishness (the Nokia XpressMusic 5230 was worse, in my experience! ) because at least on Android you know that it's just busy because the CPU is slow, & you don't have to force quit most apps unlike on Nokia firmware. (I liked the Nokia 9300 but that was years ago). It was a waste of £10 BUT.

I hope this helps everyone! :)

Cannot fault it for speed & features etc & value. But it has an acknowledged software problem with repeating texts. It has got to the stage on mine where it does not allow 'new' texts through from the source. Terrible shame as great phone. Going back for refund, but what do I replace it with?

This is excellent phone. Just bought it for just 90 pounds at Carphone Warehouse. Its best 90 pounds I have ever spent. This phone is blistering fast. Can't believe it's just 600 mhz. The Android Eclair is revealing. To install apps is so easy & straight forward. Also installing from my SD card was easy & straight forward. I love the Google voice search & I have installed about 100 apps already. Only had it 3 days, it's a breeze. Battery lasted me 36 hours before charging. Please who needs an iPhone. Even the 2 megapixel cam which is the only low point can be enhanced by downloading loads of free android photo editing apps. I am not into photos anyway. Excellent phone.

I happen to think that this phone is simply far far better than Samsung originally planned. I have in the past six months owned an iPhone (didn't work where I live even though Vodafone had coverage) a HTC HD mini (once more, very hit & miss signal coverage) & very recently a HTC desire, unbelievably temperamental at emailing & signal quality was once more hit & miss where I live. I was beginning to lose faith altogether when quite by accident I tried dropping my SIM into a Galaxy Europa, well thank goodness I did. The signal strength & call quality are simply superb, the Android interface albeit lower resolution & smaller than the HTC works without fault. The Gmail syncs works perfectly & the ring volume & music player are without peer. Buy this phone before Samsung realise that they have utterly underestimated this phone & rebrand it & add another 100 quid to the price because it surely deserves it.

Go buy. You will NOT regret it.

Good phone. Slightly more annoying than my last one which was the Samsung Pixon. The touch buttons to text is smaller & I also keep getting triple, if not more texts through from the same sender although they are only sending them once. It is really annoying. Battery life doesn't last long. If you aren't using it for a long period I would recommend putting it off as the battery will have wasted by the time you go use it again!

I have had this phone for almost a month now, & I love it! My old phone was the Sony Ericsson W350i so this is a huge step-up for me. I have had no problems whatsoever yet!

I have never used Swype before, & I am very impressed with the speed that it inputs the words at. Also you don't have to be very accurate, which is handy because I have slightly chubby fingers. The only problem is, I couldn't work out how to turn it on, & had to look at the instruction manual.

The QWERTY keyboard letters are quite small when in portrait mode & you need to be precise if you want the phone to enter the correct letter. But when you turn it on its side it is a lot more usable & the letters are bigger & more spaced out.

The security feature on this phone is really cool! It's like a password, but not quite. When your pattern is set & you lock the phone, it comes up with 9 dots that you drag you finger across in the shape of your pattern. It's a lot cooler than just a password using numbers or letters, & it's nicely spaced out too, meaning that if you have slightly chubby fingers you can still easily draw your pattern.

All in all, a brilliant phone. I am glad I got it, & I hope I don't start getting problems, since I've got it for another 2 years!

Haven't had this phone long, seems okay & once I get used to it I hope it will be easy to send texts etc at the moment it seems to be more complicated to do anything having previously got on well with a Samsung G600! This is my first touch screen job. Anyway, I cannot find a way of getting the incoming text notification to repeat every few minutes? I would love to know how to do this because I get work shifts by text & I have to keep checking it at the moment in case I miss the initial arrival of the text. Also there's only a small smiley face at the top to let me know when there's a text waiting to be viewed. Feels like a step backwards compared to my old phone.

I like the phone it's easy to use & just a mini version of the Galaxy S, two problems though.

- the keyboard is so tiny I keep mashing the touch letters. The answer, install an app that makes the keys bigger :), excellent!

- I have a problem with the Wi-Fi, I can connect to the house router but if I move away from the router by 1 metre / 3 feet I lose the signal? Yet my partner has the galaxy S & has a strong signal & can also pick up other Wi-Fi in the area. Does anyone else have the Wi-Fi problem? Tried to speak to Samsung, but no reply : (.

Thanks for your time.
