I have gone through FIVE CHARGERS in the space of a year. All of which have BROKE. I didn't mistreat or bend the charger leads & nor are there any visible signs of the lead having snapped. It just won't work & now I am stuck with uncharged phone until my contract ends. The people at 02 were useless in dealing with this & sent me a charger (after weeks of persisting) & it doesn't work. Fed Up.

This phone looks good but it does not work properly. It has dozens of hardware & software problems. Which to me makes it unusable.

Pros.
- Looks good.
- Excellent music player.
- Built in 2GB memory.
- Hidden display which says whose calling & even the start of any incoming text messages.
- Shows & controls your MP3 tracks on outside screen when phone is closed.
- Battery takes only an hour to charge.

Negs.
- Awful battery life doesn't last ten percent of the claimed battery length.
- The speaker is very tinny & quiet which is difficult to hold any conversations on, even on maximum level.
- Very quiet text incoming sound even on the maximum volume setting. Very hard to know you have had a text.
- Dozens of software bugs, for example an alarm clock which will wake you up with your chosen sound if the phone is left on & will only play the default factory tone if you turn your phone off. There are lots of similar bugs like these which are annoying but not crucial to the operation of the phone.
- The earphone adaptor cable broke after only a few uses even when I looked after it, I had to use sellotape to mend it.

Sum up.
A very poor phone which if it worked as to its specifications would be brilliant, but it doesn't! Another problem O2 branded phone.

I got this last year & I loved it. Even to this day I still find the blue scrolling letters on the outside really cool. The music player is easy to use & the camera isn't that bad for 2MP. I can't understand the fuss about this charger problem, I never had a problem with the charger, but I did have to send it back because the volume wheel started working. For what I wanted, it suited me brilliantly. I gave it to my dad in November when I got an LG Cookie, what an awful phone, I want it back!

My statement is not so much of a review as it is a warning. I recently bought the cocoon from overseas & received it today on Valentine's day. Well as I plugged the charger in guess what!? It wouldn't charge my phone. Neither my USB, the nest, or the wall converter would charge it. I live in the USA & now I have no way to return or exchange this phone! HELP!

I got this phone on 30th may last year (2008). It was originally sold out at the Colchester 02 store, so I got one reserved at the O2 store in Clacton. I loved it that much, I travelled all the way to Clacton, just to get it. :)

It's such a unique phone, which was what I liked about it, as you don't see everybody with it, or a phone similar.

Overall, it's a brilliant phone, great features & everything.

The only problem I had, was charging. Until December 17th 2008, it worked fine. No problems at all. I was charging it through my extension lead, & decided to move it to another plug, & it just wouldn't charge at all. The charger would get very hot, & would smell like burning plastic.

So I took it into the O2 shop (Colchester), they tried charging it there, even got a new charger out. & tried that, but still wouldn't charge. It was sent off on a 2year warranty.
I then hadn't heard anything for 2 weeks, so I went into O2 & asked about it, they then told me that they received a quote, & that I would have to pay £67.00 for it. & pay it within a week, or the phone would get sent back, unrepaired. I found that absolutely ridiculous, as the phone was brought for £69.99 in the first place.

They didn't even tell me what was wrong with it, & that apparently the warranty didn't cover it.

So here I am, still waiting for a call to collect my unrepaired Cocoon back from 02.

After all that hassle, I do love the phone, & understand that it may have been my fault, as it was on charge constantly.

I got this phone through 02 online contract. Thought it was great apart from the volume as I am slightly deaf so I can't hear it unless I have the headphones on. Anyway everything about it was just amazing until it stopped charging. Found out it was the charger had a fault. Charger blew all my fuses & starting melting. Complained to 02. They sent my phone away even though I said loads of times that it was the charger. Got new phone. Had to buy a car charger & adapter from eBay so I could charge this phone as its the only one I got left. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone now.

This phone is shocking. Once you get it you are absolutely stunned by the great LED & the way it looks etc. But after awhile it is clear that this phone is blatantly faulty.
This phone not only lags but it has charging problems, randomly opens the wrong things, texts different characters than to what you put if you start texting fast, is annoying to use due to different buttons & style. Really is not user friendly & the battery dies extremely fast. Seeing as I am not the only one with this problem it must just be an issue with the phone. Do not be so convinced it is amazing when you first play with it. The lagging & random switching off really gets to me. Seems like 02 made a phone which is only good for the looks because the actual content is completely RUBBISH.

OK. I got this phone & loved how it looked & for about the first three months it worked perfectly. After about 3 months the music stopped working, it stopped charging & would cut out in the middle of calls. I took it into the shop & got it repaired, after this it started charging again although the calls cutting off were still a frequent occurrence. After this miraculous repair the standby time was reduced to just 3 hours.

I think everything that would go wrong with this phone did.

I would recommend the LG cookie as a replacement which is now working perfectly for me : D.

Up to this moment, I actually haven't got any problem with this phone. I use this for listening to the music only, & it's quite good. Using headset is better than not. The battery life is up to 1.5 days if listening to music all day, if not, it's raise up to 3 days. Firstly I have a small problem with uploading music library, but now it's okay. Really to me it's not bad at all :). Wish you luck with your cocoon :).

I love the look of the Cocoon & the novelty of the blue lights still has not worn off. It isn't the best if you are one for features but I never use it for the music player & don't take many pictures.

I do agree that it has a mind of its own, I had to send my first one back after a few months as when I switched it on one morning & tried to access my messages, it froze up. I kept switching it off & on until I was eventually able to get in my inbox, to find that all my messages had been erased. This happened every day following & was a real pain as I had MMS's that I wanted to keep & texts with addresses & directions that I needed. They promptly sent me a replacement & 2 months later I've just had the same problem but still got a year before I am due an upgrade.

On top of this the Music Library is always randomly appearing & when writing a text it sometimes mangles the words & adds random numbers. The buttons often take several seconds to respond too. But it looks good.

I loved this phone as soon as I saw it, as soon as my contract was up for renewal I got it. That was in November last year.

As soon as I got it I had a few problems with texting, the phone adds numbers & letters where it feels fit. Also the predictive text is a bit odd & has words with numbers in. Bizarre! I could live with this though, as I love the design of it.

This week it has stopped charging for no reason. I am off to the O2 shop this weekend. & by the looks of these notes, wish me luck!

I bought a cocoon in May 2007 & within 5 months it would only stay on when plugged in to the charger. Took it to the O2 shop they were quite helpful. They offered me a temporary phone but with £25 to pay for the privileged of a very old phone I said I didn't have £25 so they waived the fee. I received a call from O2 shop to say it was back, I collected it & was told it was a brand new phone that lasted another 5 months & it went wrong again this time it would just turn itself off sometimes during texting either receiving or sending & some calls very annoying. I returned to the shop, again they sent it away & again was told a deposit of £25 for a temporary phone again I was not prepared to pay this made such a fuss they waived the fee. I was called by O2 to say it was back 8 days after it went away, went to the shop & to my surprise it was returned by the repair centre with no battery! I was very cross to say the least. A few days later O2 called me to say they would offer me a replacement phone. I had a choice or 7 new phones 1 of which was a new cocoon as you can imagine I did not make that mistake again. Don't buy a cocoon they are absolute rubbish! They should come with a health warning as you get seriously stressed.

I work for O2 & would not recommend this phone at all. It was released with a million & one problems & almost every customer who took a Cocoon has had a very bad experience.

I am sorry to anybody who has thought that O2 staff weren't helpful or lacking in knowledge but the staff in store are limited in what they can actually do. They are rarely authorized to exchange a phone & it's apparent that even after the phones are away for repair they still have problems!

If you own one of these phones, you can try for an exchange by calling the O2 Customer service number or you could just trade it in for a discount when buying a new phone.-

Review in summary, avoid this phone like the plague!

Well I've had this phone for nearly a year now & man it's rubbish, really. The battery life is bad, as in if I listen to music for half an hour the battery is nearly empty. I have had 3 new phone as the others where faulty, but on all three phones sometimes I will be writing a text & say I pressed 3, a lot of the time it would input 9 or 7 instead. The camera is awful as is the video. Man I can't wait to get a different phone. I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

Same problems here, not charging? Faulty cable, phone freezes, switches itself off if you ask too much of it, had to send it off to be repaired when it stopped saving & sending photos altogether. Now I've picked it up from the shop it still doesn't charge & the nest hasn't worked since I had it, but the shop tells me the nest does work! Still got 6 months on contract left & I've been told the phone is under warranty but the charger isn't!

I am just glad I have 12 months warranty with it otherwise it would of cost me a fortune, my first problem was no sound (not that it was very loud in 1st place! ) it was sent back & fixed only to get home & find it was still broke, O2 sent it back again within a couple of days was told I have a new cocoon as they couldn't fix it, couple of months later this one decides not to charge & once again O2 sent phone back & for now its charging. The sales assistant has told me if phone breaks again not to take it back but ring O2 & demand a new make of phone, plus she also said my cocoon was the seventh to be sent back in a month.

Come on O2 realise you've made a poor phone, upset & cost your customers their hard earned cash with a phone that is simply rubbish.

I have had problems with this phone from the very start! My problem has been that I charge the phone up until fully charged to find that half an hour later it has low battery SURELY this is a fault with the phone.

Firstly I was given a new charger which did not help same problem still occurred.

Secondly my phone was sent away to be repaired but engineers say that the cost of the repair is £82.00 & that it is not their fault the phone is not charging. After reading more reviews I am glad to hear the same problems are happening to other people about the phones battery life.

O2 are very unhelpful I do not recommend this phone to anyone.

Saw this phone & I automatically loved it, my parents bought it for me in August 2007, & until about a month ago (June to July 2008) I'd had no problems. Then my phone wasn't charging. Luckily my mum has the same phone & so I charged my phone using her USB wire & my nest & plug & all was well. Charged it again with my nest, plug & all was successful. It's my USB wire. The connection was even dodgy when plugged into my laptop.

We took the phone into an O2 shop, where we were shown a total lack of knowledge about the phone & how it worked. Had to pay £25 deposit for a courtesy phone that was nearly as old as I am & 2 weeks later still don't have the USB wire & I have a new handset, that I didn't need to begin with, so I've lost all my pictures & music.

There are a few things that are very annoying really.

- Phone was under warranty.
- We pay premium insurance of £7.50 on top of a £35 contract.
- Still can't get the part we need a USB wire.

I love the phone & its gadgets & the features are awesome, BUT if I can't charge it then I can't use it!

Batteries are not the problem the charging issue is simply down to the flimsy cable breaking up internally near the plug that goes into the phone. We are on our fourth cable in 7 months, very poor service from O2 who will only provide a kit at £9.99 which includes a charger so we have four of those as well.

Rob here, you may have read my other reviews on phones, I am not here to rate though, I have had phone calls about this handset, so I am doing an advice sheet. I was not allowed to test this phone but the battery isn't the best & yes, the charging problem, Andrea your problem should have been avoided as there is a glitch in the 02 Cocoon, which is naturally put there. When the makers put the phone in, the phone did not manage to read the chargers output. 02 say that this is not a vault, don't take that from them. It didn't show up on the monitor due to the virus been put in through its own chip. Please, this virus can waste people money, do not buy the phone & if you do, get it checked out after the first FULL charge.

If you have any problems with any other phone or indeed this one, I will be pleased if you let me know, thanks.

Also this is the second battery, as the first one from one month on was rubbish as well. I like the phone design & it has a great MP3 player, but it's no good charging a new phone daily. Lads & lasses, what do you expect for £50?

Stop whinging about the handset. It is packed with features & has an LED display on the outside, which is really funky but can be like a beacon to a thief so just becareful.

The battery life is just below average but I guess this is due to the LED, amongst other things.

The User Guide is on the CD that came with the beautiful packaging. Try inserting the CD & reading the PDF!

The keys are nice & large, unlike the ones on the Nokia's where you have to use a needle to touch them, they are that tiny.

Why complain about a 2 megapixel camera? Where you around when phones didn't have a camera? Be thankful. My digicam is 1.2 megapixel & it isn't that old.

My partner has this handset & she loves it. & if she's happy, then I am happy.

As for Nokia's, they are rubbish & constantly break. They are basically designed for light usage & not for youngsters to throw them around & pose with their mates.

I've had this phone since the begining of August last year (practically the day it was released) & loved it until it suddenly refused to charge. I thought it might be a faulty charger so bought a new one, still no good so I bought a replacement battery. Again, still no good. So far I have spent £19.99 on each! I then phoned O2 & asked for a replacement handset & after sending the faulty one back, at my expense, the replacement won't charge either! Phoned O2 again & they said very sorry, send it back (again at my expense). Yes, you guessed it, third handset won't charge! I've spent £19.99 on two replacement bits of hardware & 2 lots of £5.07 returning faulty handsets by Special delivery.

Is it me? Anyone got any suggestions other than dropping the phone from a great height?

- The camera is fairly good, to say it's on a phone.

I have had this phone for a round 2 months now & have come across some serious issues with it.

- Firstly it gets dirty very quickly.
- Secondly you can't create your own playlists in the music player.
-Thirdly I think it always seems to run slower than other phones I have had.

It does have some good qualities though for example.
- Firstly I like the style & layout of the exterior.
- Secondly I like the user interface as it is easy to use.
- Thirdly the screen is large which is good for watching music videos on.

Also for a phone this new I don't think the camera is overly great I mean 2 megapixels isn't a a lot when you think the size of it, then look at the Samsung u600 the smallest phone in production has a 3.2 megapixel camera.

Overall if you want something new stylish & unique buy it.
If you want something with loads of great gadgets, that is funky & technical don't.

This is an incredible phone for £60! One problem that I find is that the screen gets scratched way too easily & it needs cleaning every 30mins. Camera isn't great but what do you expect from a 2 megapixel camera? No problems with the sound ringtones or music player. Though the vibrate option seems to fry small portions of my skin :(.

For those of you who are complaining about battery life. Did you charge it for 12 to 24 hours as recommended when you put it on charge for the first time? The music file transfer seems way too complicated but when you get used to it, it's easy. Can people please stop moaning about the lack of an instruction manual. It's on the CD that is included in the box!

White for the outer casing is questionable as it tends to show dirt easily. Maybe better in black, with white as the interior colour?

But overall a very good phone (so far).

This bit is for Katie on how to charge the phone.

- Get white block plug & attach 3 pin plug (slide it into the inside of the block plug (block plug looks like a white mini brick.
- Connect the cable to the plug (otherwise known as the USB cable. Or put simply the only cable that has two connecting ends. Put the fat one into the bottom of the block charger & the other smaller one into the phone just below the headset symbol.)
- Plug the block plug into any 3 pin wall plug & you are now charging your phone. Result :).

Just been reading through these reviews & cannot think but that people that love it have only used it for a short time. I have put up with it now for nine months & I think it is just AWFUL. Yes it still looks cool (though the white casing is now a bit grubby) but have just had to buy a new charger as the old one flaked out completely.

The ridge near the speaker you put against your ear makes my ear hurt after a ten minute conversation what a piece of design. & while it has plenty of features (what attracted me in the first place) the software is just absyimal. Unbelievably slow, randomly reboots, randomly freezes, I can't delete text messages half the time. What a nightmare. & the lock on the outside music player controls doesn't work so it is always playing things in my pocket. Neither do I find the controls & navigation at all intuitive. I am going back to a Nokia as soon as this contract is over. The world's worst phone. It has to be a contender. Even the guys in the O2 shop where I just got the replacement power cable asked me why I would buy an O2 branded phone. Apparently it is made by a Korean company. Battery life is pathetic too.

A really good phone! Anyone who complains of there being no manual, the book is a quick start guide, the manual is on a CD which comes with the phone if you bothered to look.

Problems with signal etc have since been fixed on the cocoons so any you buy now should be fine. It looks really nice & is not too much bigger than other phones so it doesn't look horrible but the keys are big enough to make texting easy. I have put around 70 songs on my cocoon so far & 10 pictures & it handles them really well, with 1.2GB still free.

Only problems.

- On the menu screen the left soft key changes the way you view the menu which takes some getting used to but when you are used to this it is fine.
- The syncing with Windows Media Player is a bit confusing to start with, & it takes some time to figure out! But once you have worked out how to use (took me one day), it is really very quick & easy to put these songs onto your cocoon. (From end of download to listening to the music on the cocoon, including changing tags, took around 5 minutes for 10 songs). However, this phone handles music & album & artist sorts excellently.

Overall, I really like this phone, & it is definitely worth buying.

It is not on par with the new £250 phones out there as far as functionality, but for the money it is fantastic value & should cost much more than the measly £50 it cost me (including £10 airtime).

Utterly appalling phone! I got it in October & had to send it back by January! I had so many problems! The battery life was virtually nonexistent, the volume was poor, even when on full, video quality was poor, blue tooth & Internet didn't work at all, signal went as soon as I made a call, the keys either didn't work at all, or decided that when I was pressing one button, I really wanted to press another (I would press 2 & it would come up with a 7, for example!). It was difficult to sync with my computer to add music to. Plus I went through 2 chargers in this time, both faulty!

I also found the manual difficult to use. It doesn't tell you what you need to know, & the software that comes with the phone is pretty unimpressive.

I was sent a replacement, but having had it 2 weeks, I am starting to find the same problems occurring, especially with the battery life, sound quality & key pad! It's going back & being replaced with a Nokia! I've had enough!

I've also found O2 incredibly unhelpful during the return process, receiving wrong information, & being pushed from pillar to post. For a phone that is valued so highly, it's a real let down. I really wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone, whatever they would be using it for! It may look great, but it simply doesn't work!

The first is that the Internet on mine decides when it wants to work even on full signal although I am not sure whether this is because I am using an old sim card.

Secondly I still haven't worked out how to change the message tones because I don't have an instruction manual :S.

What kind of rubbish Phone Company doesn't put an easily accessible instruction manual for its users! & to those of you that found accessibility easy using the cd, you should consider the fact that for those people that don't have Microsoft word or a computer at their house at all (& yes not everyone can afford a laptop). You should also consider that for people living outside of town it's a pain to go back to the shop. Thus my point is proven that to a lot of people, when it comes to downloading music the phone is not easily accessible! Especially if you've been given the wrong accessories.!

Couple down sides, text tone only goes off for 5 seconds no repeat option for alarm the battery life is poor I have to admit but I do have the music player on a lot but the design the memory & the music player soon makes up for it all in all a fantastic little phone I recommend to anyone looking for a new music phone, it's better than my iPod!

I've had this phone from August when I upgraded from a Sony Ericsson & although I was initially happy with the phone problems began to appear within the last 6 weeks.

I have been unable to charge the phone either via the plug or the USB cable on my laptop so I brought it to my local O2 Shop for repair. I collected the phone yesterday from the shop after having been informed there was a fault with it but that the problem was now repaired. I proceeded to charge the phone & kept it charged for one hour but to no avail, the plug felt extremely warm although the phone itself was cold. I returned to the 02 Shop again, explained what happened & was told that a replacement handset was being requested.

I wanted to know whether anyone else has experience any problems with charging the phone as obviously I am concerned that this incident may not be a one off & that the same problem may occur again 6 months down the line!

At first I was really pleased with this phone, it looks nice, is easy to use & did the job.

HOWEVER, I travel a lot & despite being reassured on the phone that the charger was compact I found when I received the phone in the post that it is far larger than a normal charger.

ALSO, battery life has steadily decreased & barely lasts half a day, meaning I have to carry a chunky charger everywhere with me.

FINALLY, today the keypad has decided not to work at all. I am sending it back, & will be without a phone for a fortnight now. Great!

I do not recommend this phone, it's a novelty gimmick.

Had phone bought for Christmas, not the easiest of phones to use, did not like not having a manual, the pdf manual in my opinion is utterly useless as it does not explain how to do certain operations. My main problem is I have several music videos on my PC & there is nothing stating how to download them to my new phone. I have music videos in mpeg4 & avi format, to me O2 would sell more of their products if they produced a manual & not expect everybody to be a computer whizkid or a mobile phone addict.

I must say, I have been using a Nokia N95 now for half a year but I was sick of all the problems with it so I noticed this nice little phone & it was love at first sight!

This phone may not seem up to much but believe me its VERY easy to use, it looks amazing & I've had no problems to date with it & I've had it for a few weeks now.

If you're considering buying this phone, It really is worth it, OK, it doesn't have a 5 megapixel camera, but It more than makes up with it in its battery life, sound, memory & design.

OK it's a little quite but there are ways using the equalizer to get around this & the alarm feature is amazing!

Altogether the interface & operating system looks very professional & VERY easy to use.

This is an amazing phone, you may not agree, but if you have one in your hand you'd know just how great the phone is!

The Cocoon, I got this phone on upgrade & was quite happy with it, until after about 6 weeks it started to lose it's charge within 12 hours (if not used, it should last on stand-by for 365 hours).

I did end up sending it back to O2 & within 2 weeks had a replacement handset delivered, so if your battery life is not up to scratch then SEND IT BACK.

On the whole I love this phone, I love the blue glow of the alarm clock, & the crisp clearness of the sound. The handbook was a little disappointing for finding things like volume & ringtones but I found them eventually.

Incidentally, if you set the phone to 'loud' you will hear it ringing. Also, for volume, there is a dial on the hinge of the phone just under where it says 'O2 Active' when the handset is open, this controls the volume of the music, ringer & the caller's voice when you take/make a call.

I like this phone because it's clean, simple looking & has buttons that can be pressed by normal sized fingers, you can see who is calling before you answer it, the clam-shell design means that the screen does not get scratched from been thrown in your handbag &, contrary to popular belief, it CAN be opened/answered with just one hand.

The only real downside is that the edges are a little sharp on your ears when using the phone, but I can forgive this.

You cannot please all the people all the time!

Just bought this phone today, & have read some of the views, which I was genuinely surprised to see they were quite mixed. I honestly thought it would have glowing reviews.

The phone certainly does not look cheap for one.

As soon as I got home I installed the software onto my laptop, connected the phone, opened windows media player, synched the phone & transferred some music, took all of 5 minutes, no hassle. Amazing sound through the inbuilt MP3 player, I've listened to MP3's through various players, & this is really pretty good. No distortion at high volume, no fuzz on bass, everything sounds just like it should.

The camera is awesome, screen quality is good, can play good quality vids, & how can you go wrong with 2 GB internal memory plus an SD slot?

Making calls, texting, navigating the menus, it's all very easy. Setting the phone up to your own style (wallpapers, ringtone etc) is all extremely easy, finding any difficulty setting up the features or connectivity to your PC is difficult, even for non technical folk, it is still rather easy. The PDF file supplied on the CD is very in-depth & will take you through different steps & is very simple.

The one thing I will say, do not buy this phone if you do not own a PC, this is very much a phone for those using PC's & Mac's who listen to a lot of mp3s.

I am totally loving the phone, I went for a Nokia 7600 for my last phone 5 years ago, maybe I love quirky phones, but the cocoon rocks.

I am really interested in buying this phone but after reading all the reviews there seems to be more negative then positive, so I was wondering if anyone could help me with a few things.

1. I heard that it's made from plastic, this might sound stupid but what are normal phones made from?
2. Is it true that the sound quality is really poor?
3. When in certain menus, does it jump?
4. Are the edges really a major problem, due to sharpness?

Id be really grateful if you could help me as I really want to buy this phone but there have been so many unhappy reviews.

Oh yeh & did you all buy it from the O2 website, or somewhere else as this might contribute to some of the flaw?

After buying this phone for my girlfriend I have drawn the following conclusions, this is very much a phone aimed at those who like pretty things hanging around in their handbag or those attracted by the design rather than the content. If you are looking for a phone that is technical then go for a N95. If you are looking for a music player then go for a Sony Ericsson or an IPOD.

The bottom line here is that after you have got over the flashy external display & the attention to design detail, you'll be ready to upgrade. Don't get me wrong this is a great phone with 3G, Video calling, a passable music player & a cute little thing they call a nest in order that the device will become the one thing you hate in life the most, your alarm clock.

It took me 20 minutes to start finding the lack of functionality but it's fair to say the design takes a while longer to bore. As they say, horses for courses. Hence the 100% mark for design, the poor score for features & the in between score for usability.

I got this as a free upgrade on O2, so far so good. Have not had any major problems, love the minimalist design of the phone & the LED lights (although still not worked out how to keep the time showing permanently). I like the 2GB internal memory capacity & the fact that there is a card slot to increase it even more. I like the music player, excellent sound quality through headphones (I swapped the bundled earbud-style ones for a set of Creative MP3 in-ear, the other ones wouldn't stay in my big lugs), & it has plenty of different bass/surround settings as well as a customisable sound equalizer, so it allows you to tailor the sound to your preference. Radio works well too, good reception & plenty of preset memory spaces. The buttons on the side of the phone have a nice tactile feel to them & work fine, haven't really noticed any lag when changing tracks as mentioned in previous reviews.

As also mentioned previously, the menus are a bit bland, but that can be brightened up with a few wallpapers downloaded from PC, to which I have had no difficulty connecting (seems to work fine through XP, recognises the device & can copy music tracks or pictures to the phone without having to use media centre, the software on the phone picks them up which is handy).

One thing I have noticed is when scrolling through the quick menu the screen suddenly jumps to the number dialling screen with a '2' or '8' on the screen, someone else mentioned this menu jumping below, if it gets any worse I will return the phone & get a replacement as I am loving it so far, it is something different & a refreshing change to all the dreary silver, grey or black handsets about at the minute.

OK, I'll admit, I bought this phone because it is very pretty. But I am really regretting it now. The phone I had before this was the XDA mini - which despite it running Windows, did everything I needed!

However, I am not so vain as to buy I phone without checking that it did what I needed - mail, good camera, wap, sort of synchronised to my Mac!

However, all is not well. It's very slow to start with. It seems to have a mind of its own - jumping to random menus - half way down a page, or into sub menus from absolutely no where, going into call mode from the middle of another menu, going into the O2 arena mode, when I was in all places, Malibu, USA (I still have no idea how it did that!) & to top it all off, it deleting my entire contacts list, when I was in the middle of writing a text. Understandably I was pretty upset.

This is a lovely phone, with some great ideas - the 2 gig internal memory plus ability to upgrade with SD is great, but it HAS to be more stable, & get rid of that silly headphone out port & put a proper 3.5mm jack on it! Contemplating how to get a new phone for cheap.

Sam, Manchester - press the menu button, then the left soft key. Set it to grid mode, voila.
Amie, Wrexham - you can use your own wallpapers, I have hourly ones on mine. Simply take a picture, open it on the phone, press the left soft button & then 3, then 1.

As for saving numbers from messages, open the message, press left soft key, then 5. I know the manuals on the CD, but some of the features are pretty self explanatory. Whoever said about the charging cable - just get a USB extension, that's all it is really.

Anyway, I've had the phone for just over a month now. Not fantastic, major selling point is defiantly the screen, however invasive it can be on a bus when you get a message. The camera is good, although you can't view the images at a large size on your phone when browsing through them (but can with videos?), which means anything with detail is lost.

Sound quality is alright, the two speakers aren't the loudest thing in the world but they do for casual listening in a quiet environment, & don't distort at volume like the Sony Ericsson's all seem to.

It's not without its faults though. The skin is a bit dull, & features are obscured & seem to suddenly appear (I found out yesterday you can alter the wake up message on the alarm!). I've also had problems with it randomly locking up from time to time when opening/writing a text, so you get lag & then it does whatever you inputted, just wrong (for example, missing out key presses). The battery also overheated a few weeks ago, not slightly but actually really hot. Probably a short circuit as the low battery warning flashed too. Just took the battery out for a few hours (I was in work) & its fine now.

Lastly, having clumsy hands means I am always pressing one of the buttons on the side when opening the phone, so I get the music player up even when it's on hold. It's probably normal behaviour, but it's irritating when I am trying to get to a message, even more when it starts playing music when I don't want it. Speaking of music, the player takes forever to skip track, up to a second. Its cruddy software, as I had a Hitachi MP3 that did the same.

It comes with absolutely no instructions - just a booklet saying how great it is & a CD which as far as I can tell just has syncing software - no instructions.

It's too quiet, the music keeps coming on for no reason & when you press the main menu button, the number 6 dials for some reason! The most annoying thing is that I can't find the call register so if I miss a call & accidentally remove the message I don't know who called. It promises so much but gives so little. Well I have Just Joined O2 on contract. I was really in a huge debate what phone to have. I have the Cocoon which I thought looked very stylish & very unique. The LCD display is really good I like the fact that you can see the time & who is calling/texting & even read part of the text. You can choose your own text tone. You can't use graphic wallpapers of your own choice you only have what you are given & there are only 3.

When you receive a text & you want to save the persons number you have to write it down you can't choose the save to contacts option. It doesn't have smiley faces only the :) sort. Most Nokia & the Sony new phones have the faces.

The phone is very quiet unless you use the headset. Vibrate is very poor. Battery has to be the worst thing. I have had this phone since Friday & charged 3 times overnight. One in the Day because I was showing my friend the music it drained.

This phone does not have any themes. I don't like that the phone is very basic. I can't believe that a phone like this can be brought out in the year 2007! I had the Sony Ericsson w850i on pay as you go & that was a fun phone. Didn't look as smart as the Cocoon but it is up-to-date & does allow you to change the settings & has themes & good battery. I am now waiting for my NEW phone to arrive can't wait to get back to date! 2007 welcomes w580i. Hope this is not a let down.

What a nuisance. Received my first phone & tried to sync it with my computer only to find it didn't work. I put it down to a faulty lead. Returned that one only to find the second one didn't work either, same problem. Spoke to technical support several times over. They have now realised this is one big mess on O2's behalf. The guy tried four Cocoon's on four separate computers which had the same problem. Spoke to them again today & they think it's going to take several months to rectify.

I can't review half the stuff it's supposed to do because it doesn't work. Street maps & route planner never worked, technical support are dealing with that also. Didn't bother putting any music on it as I knew it would probably end up going back. Every now & then you hit the main menu button & it just decides to come up with the number 6 on the screen. With the phone shut you can't tell if you've missed a call or message unless you set the message reminder. Yes the display was very funky but I'd far rather have a phone that does what it's supposed to do. I would suggest you steer clear of this one! Mine is going back once I decide what to try next!

I do like the looks & the size, it's very light, the controls are cool on the side, pictures are OK, not as good as the Sony Ericsson's though, fix these little things & would get a higher rating. 6.5 out of 10.

Gave O2 a call, who suggested that as my sim was not new it may be the problem (my sim was over 6 years old). They sent me a replacement sim next day. Put it in the Cocoon, called O2 to register it then 30 minutes later it worked perfectly. If you do have problems with this phone & you are using an older sim, it might just need replacing. Change of heart since last review on this phone. It's all packed up ready to send back.
Have decided I really hate it.

The battery life isn't as good as first thought, have to charge it everyday. The music player pops up whenever it feels like it, & sometimes when the menu button is pressed it jumps to somewhere else.

I have not once heard my phone ring when it's in my pocket & also never hear the text message. The vibration of the phone is very lame. Phone is definitely too big & flimsy. Put it in your back pocket & it will probably crack. Think O2 really rushed this phone. It wasn't made to last. I am going for the u600 now instead. Played with a friends a few times & seems really good.

I bought the cocoon direct from O2 3 days ago, I have struggled to get music on it from my PC because there are no step by step instructions, I put the alarm on for wake up & then I couldn't find how to switch it off, so I had to delete it.

I have yet to find out if the volume can be adjusted because its not very loud on the highest setting, yesterday it crashed & I had to do a factory setting, I read in the booklet that came with it that step by step instructions were on the O2 site to download but I am still looking for it.

Can anyone tell me how to get the instructions before I swap it for a Samsung?

The phone is a bit on the big side, feels like your holding a brick to your ear & also very flimsy. Seems to be very cheaply put together. I like a phone that can easily be used with one hand & this definitely can't be.

The volume on the phone is very low but I have found if you mess with the equalizer & bass it can be made twice as loud. Saying all that, the phone is extremely easy to use & the battery life seems quiet good. Biggest complaint I have is the length of the phone charger LOL. I have to leave my phone on the other side of my bedroom at night LOL.
The keys are simple to use, not to small not to big.

Overall a good phone if you're not looking for a fashion accessory.

Wow what a disappointment got a free upgrade on O2. I wanted the K8 but the guy at O2 told me this phone was the best so I took him at his word.

Well where do I start first of all the phone is OK to look at, but it is made of plastic yes PLASTIC all of it, so not only does it feel flimsy it is, you would worry if you where to put any weight on it, so no back pocket for this phone.

One of the features I bought it for was the MP3 player, again it looks & works OK but sound quality is poor & very low I even used 3 different sets of head phones to make sure big mistake if you are selling it as an MP3 player make it so you can turn up your tunes. The last photo & video playback was smooth but nothing on the k8 'friend has one' & photos are OK but the zoom is not the best this phone is form over function in my opinion.

This phone is supposed to be O2's first own phone let's hope they get better.

I must admit I was a bit sceptical when O2 offered me this phone (they had a lot of making up to do to me!) I have always gone for the good old reliable Nokia's! The phone itself is very cool & the ability to see who is calling, the time, messages etc on the outside of the phone is a talking point in the pub!

I am not exactly thick but it did take me a while to work out how to turn the MP3 player off but once that was sorted that was fine! The only down side is that the phone does have sharp edges so that when you have been on the phone for a while it tends to hurt your ear!

Camera & video are very good quality. All in all it is a very cool phone with cool features, one final thing is. It doesn't come with an instruction booklet & all instructions are on the CD - that takes quite a bit of reading! Give it a go. You won't be disappointed!
