I have had many Nokia phones in the past & I looked forward to using the N93. For the first 6 months I had no problems, but since the phone turns itself off without you realising. You only need to flip up the screen & it turns off. If you place it down, it turns off. It is the biggest heap of junk I have ever had to use. Nokia don't care less about the rubbish they have produced, & frankly you should not go near one.

Had the phone 2 years absolutely no problems what so ever in any way, even after dropping it 3 times at a fair height (over 2 meters) on to concrete. It has been with me 7 days a week commuting back & forth to London in driving rain, freezing cold & unbearable heat, sometimes all on the same day ;-). I have never upgraded the firmware even to the point that I don't actually know what version it is currently loaded with. It's never switched off or on by itself, it's always let me do that for it. As an imaging scientist I am realistic about image quality using a micro sized sensor especially in dim light & each manufacturer will bias algorithms to process the signal to the best level for a given situation. Zeiss would have decided that the majority of photos will be taken in good light & balanced IQ on this basis. Music playback is not of Naim or Linn quality but I didn't expect it to be. Finally as flip phone the hinge is still as stiff & positive as the day I bought it. Therefore as a do everything phone I can not complain, you just have to be real about its limitations as an all in one.

This device is more than good but it still couldn't do what windows mobile can.

All I want to know is about the Bluetooth hands-free, I have a small style one that is activated with one button which is for answering, but when I am in the standby mode I could press it to function the voice tag feature so what about if I want to change this voice tag function with other one. I.e.: (the last dialed no) so from where could I please.

Don't GET THIS phone! Buy something else because it's plagued with software problems, everyone I have talked to who's got a n93 have had the tell tail signs of problems which are. Profile changes by that I mean it'll change the message & ringtone on its own accord, turning itself off & on, suddenly going slow, pages hanging, closing applications & so on. I have had mine for around 12 months & it's gone back to the shop twice but all they do is reload the software which I can do here on the computer. When I rang Orange to get some email settings the girl at the other end said oh I have got that phone so I asked if she had any problems & she said it had started to turn itself off & on so I told her to get rid. Buy the n95 it's much better phone.

I have had this phone for 11 months now & for the first 6 months had no real problems with it. I also have to say it's a great looking phone & the functions are great when it works. People hate it because of its size but that never really bothered me. My problem is that it switches itself off regularly, it freezes, the camera has decided that it doesn't want to work anymore - I only discovered this as I came to take some video of my kids at Alton Towers the other day.

The software lets it down in a big way - it takes 5 seconds to switch from vertical flip to horizontal flip & get working again. All the buttons seem to be on satellite delay - press something & a second later you get a response.

The camera is a bit hard to use I find - my thumb always ends up covering the flash. The stupid rubber cover over the memory card is a waste of space & does nothing except get caught on things & collect dust - why they decided on that instead of a solid cover I cannot understand.

It's going into a Nokia repair centre to be looked at on Wednesday this week but I've already bought a replacement phone & as soon as this is fixed it's going to be sold. I am going back to Sony Ericsson as they just knock socks off Nokia for Music phones & as I am a commuter the Music side of my phone is really important. Buy a N93 if you don't mind being without it for long periods of time - otherwise steer clear.

I used this phone for nearly 8 month & already sent back to service for 2 times. First time it was a chipset problem, & they replace a new chipset. Now there are problems with the camera, the lens cannot zoom back. It is a very well designed phone but not very useable.

Amazing technology, amazing photos & other media. But! I am now currently on phone number 3!

My first phone I accidentally dropped & it refused to switch on, & when it did, quickly turned back off!

Phone number 2 randomly stopped working, messages wouldn't open, picture wouldn't take, Nokia were baffled & I got another one.

Only this one has begun to switch itself off, again. Overall excellent phone when it eventually works!

Keeps turning itself off, been sent back to Nokia twice & just got it back & has started turning itself off again. I wouldn't waste my time again. I have found Nokia CARE line hopeless & they really don't care. They will not give me a new phone, so all I can say is don't go near it.

Usability 5% because no one can ring me (turns itself off) not good for a phone.

Have now had this phone for 12 months, so here's my annual report. It does everything it says on the tin! No question. I only gave it 80% for design because the N93i has come out & is slightly smaller & better looking - more sleek & looks less clumpy. Having said that the N93 has worked very well for me. I have not had the turning off problems others have reported &, maybe because I update the software regularly from the Nokia website phone never hangs, switches off, etc.

I have used it extensively to video my pals golf swings & then play them back on a TV. The video quality is amazing &, using a 1GB SanDisk Mini Ultra (much better than the ordinary memory cards)card the speed of everything is fantastic. Why carry a phone, digital camera & an iPod when this phone will do it all - & it really does. If you can get used to the size - & I did very quickly - this, or now the N93i, is the phone to have.

After 1 year's use, I still want to love the N93, but can't. It freezes /hangs, shuts down (& sometimes re-boots) of its own accord. It has created many arguments with my business callers. I have to carry another mobile as a backup. The reason for this is the Symbian software, which likes MS Windows, is still unstable, compared to the vast majority of mobile phones operating systems. Things improved after my first firmware upgrade, but is still unstable. There is another upgrade available but to get will erase my photos, videos & tracks, which you cannot upload to a PC without getting the upgrade! I also have a 2GB card in it, but when taking photos & videos it often decides there is no card present! & cannot save the images in the main memory due to small size. Some days I have taken the battery out to re-set the unit 10 or more times. Here is the proof of these problems: I bought it on the web with an O2 contract. BUT even O2 shops do not carry this unit, due to severe unreliability, likewise no other high-street retailer stocks it in the UK. They do their pre-sale tests, & this is a 'lemon' that would have given them severe grief with in-store returns & complaints. Clearly many users on this forum have not had these problems, but there is a high number that have, therefore quality-control is poor, with so many 'lemons' having been sold.

Have this phone for exactly a year now. Must say I am really satisfied with it. Upon purchase, a few bugs & hanging occurred so I quickly upgraded the firmware to a Nokia center. Really don't know why a lot of people here are saying about how slow it is. Spend a bit of money on the upgrades (just Php500.00 here so roughly $10) & everything will be perfect. After that, I haven't had any major problems with it whatsoever. Only downside is the camera lens cover which broke after a few weeks. Really can't rely on the camera on dark conditions but in better lighting conditions, picture quality is incomparable to most camera phones.

I would recommend this phone to anyone, it is so easy to use, even my 9 year old daughter uses it with ease. Great Camera, great Video, & the Carl Zeiss optics make everything very clear & with auto focus you cannot go wrong, all menu's are well set out, all functions are a good size to minimise mistakes, if you have big hands this is the phone for you. Don't listen to anyone about the size of the phone just buy a good flip phone carry case & it will hang from your belt & it looks good too. A good carry case is the ( PDair Leather Flip Case ) just go to Google & type in ( PDair Leather Flip Case for Nokia N93 ) & you will be well pleased with it, there is loads of companies sell them, I don't want to pick one company for you as you will think I am just a seller trying for business. You will pay around £15 to £20 pound so shop about. I would not want to swap my phone with any other make or model I am well pleased with it. I hope this makes your mind up when choosing your phone, so go for it.

I got this handy (as we call it in Germany) with a two years contract & after having so many Nokia phones I wanted to say this is the WORST I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Crashing, poor battery life, extremely big & low quality. THIS PHONE IS RUBBISH BIG TIME! The pictures are awful, the BT disconnects itself, it freezes & so much more. I already got it on eBay because I MUST GET RID OF IT! with the money of course I am going for Sony Ericsson or Samsung for that matter.

I've had this phone for 8 months & am about to move on to another. It has been an annoying phone with the number one problem being the frequent switching off of the phone. I think that this is related to how the phone is handled. I.E. If you treat it with kid gloves & softly close the cover & put it down on the table with care it does not normally switch itself off. If you slam the cover, plonk it on the table or put it in your pocket then expect it to switch off.

Second problem for me only affects those who connect it to their computer. Once connected to the computer using the lead, the multi-pronged connector (don't know its official name) often disengages if you unintentionally move the phone a fraction. Every time it disengages it affects the software & eventually after around 20 disengage, the phone slows down to the point where it takes around 30 seconds to open your messages, retrieve someone's number etc. Then you need to send it in for reprogramming & prepare to transfer all your numbers.

I've read that the Nokia N95 has a USB port which is great news. Third problem is related to pictures, you take a shot in contrasting light & the quality is bad. One of the amazing things about the phone is the snake game! Another great thing is that you can roam with it in Korea & Japan. Probably not a big concern for all you guys back in Europe. Then again this phone is old news now so probably all this effort to give my insight is a waste of time anyway :).

Design is bulky & the flip section has worn to non existence in 6 months, now it turns off when you open it too fast. The features included are absolutely amazing & they feel limitless, can't fault any of that.

Usability, Now, in terms of the word this phone, as with all Nokia's, has had great money & brains spent on its usability, the buttons to change to capitals, the route to get to music etc. HOWEVER Due to the endless faults with the software I am eternally turning the phone back on having not turned it off. I thought it was the battery, so bought a new one. It was not the battery.

End thoughts, the video quality of this mobile is outstanding, real player means that I watched two full films on the way to Vegas last year. However I am sick of the weight of it in my pocket, I am fed up of looking silly using a brick against my head (size wise). I do love the features & the fact it is a Nokia. BUT I have just bought a W880i & have sold this mobile on eBay because I am fed up of its problems! Happy purchasing.

I have had my N93 since October 2006 & have worked around a few of the problems mentioned above. Put a little Vaseline on the battery terminals & this sorts out a lot of the switching of problems.

Last upgrade helped picture quality, though when pictures are blown up to edit they are badly pixilated. Awaiting next upgrade to fix this problem.

Always lock keys because you can activate the torch in your pocket & this depletes battery really fast.

Close all open programs when playing music, or moving files or it may crash.

Apart from these problems I have enjoyed my phone.

Having bought a Sony Ericsson quite some time ago, & being massively disappointed with its photo taking ability I researched hard & thought that the N93 was just what I had been looking for. It is a great phone, although a little big, I find there is no need for additional camera as it takes great pics & for the first few months all was well. BUT, having spent a fair amount of money on spare SDs, cases, Sat nav receiver & software, it has started to go wrong, It will turn itself off, Forgets to save photos & videos, Screen will go blank or it might just say system error or become frozen. Such a great phone, such a massive disappointment : (

Also there is a vast amount of software available that can improve the phone even further if some users wished. I have had the phone now for 3 months & still find it interesting, something you can't get bored of. I have even found myself using software on the phone that I don't usually use. I also believe this has all the connectivity needed for a user it is even possible to use it as navigation system. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

I agonized over the purchase of this phone after my Sony 700i went for a swim. I debated between this & the Sony K800i, but I really prefer flip phones. I am very hard on my phones, & anything other than a flip tends to get scratched. Overall the design & features are good, but sending messages seems to need a lot of menu selection. If I get a message, what's wrong with simply replying rather than selecting Options then tabbing twice to get to reply? Composing messages: I first have to put in the contact, & there's no predictive text there, THEN I can type my message. There are a lot of places predictive text would be handy. The PIM functions leave a lot to be desired. No stopwatch, timer, tasks, etc. You must set the alarm everyday. As far as I can tell, the camera / video are true to the write-ups. The size isn't too bad, but that has never been much of an issue w/me. However, I find holding the phone in camera mode a bit awkward. My fingers keep getting in the way of the flash, & sometimes the lens itself. Time will tell, I guess.

I can't believe you guys! John - UK what firmware are you running as the standard firmware for the N93 wouldn't let you install any apps/programs,

Bluetooth doesn't work properly won't link with certain headsets & when it does the sound mutes!

Pics are hazy/noisy, video is good, but the latest firmware renders it useless in the evening, as it only records in Black & White! Great update Nokia LOL.

Battery drains without reason sometimes last 2 days other times 1/2 a day. It's an expensive phone sim free. Don't bother with it please if you've not bought on yet, buy the N73 or Sony as you will be disappointed.

Check the Nokia forums if you don't believe me there are 11 pages just on update problems with the N93.

How anyone can give this troubled device a high score is beyond me. Buyer beware!

I am surprisingly pleased with the phone. I had a 6260 a long time ago (a clear attempt by Nokia to run before it could walk) & I think they've more or less got the technology right with the N93, & with a bit of tweaking & the size becoming smaller, I don't think anyone would really have any major arguments.

I gave the design 90%. It's big, we all know that, but the design is good. It's no ugly. The keypad feels good, the navigation is simple & fast. The screen is big. Response time to pressing buttons is quick. I love the way it twists round to the various different positions. It's definitely more suited to a right-handed person in the movie mode (out of order to us lefties! ) but I will struggle on!

Features, I also gave it 90%. Does all the standard phone features, plus great camera, video, music player, radio etc. I never choose to but if you plan to zoom & record video, you will hear the noise of the lens in your recording.

Usability - 90%. As I said the navigation is simple which is good because of the number of features. It's quick too. I've made shortcuts to all the features I want to use so that they're on the opening screen. Makes things a whole lot easier. Photo & movie quality is the best I've experienced on a mobile, & if you just want it to take candid shots & clips, I personally don't think you'd need a separate digital camera.

Overall, I am very happy with it.

I've had my Nokia N93 now for since the beginning of October & I love it! I used to have a Nokia 7250 which is Nokia's first camera phone, & although impressive back in 2003, it has nothing on the N93. The quality of this phone is amazing. I do think however, this phone is built in mind with a young (late teens to 30's) adult who loves gadgets & can also use it as a back up for business use. Yes, it is large & quite heavy but when considered what the phone can do it is a minor problem. As for people commenting on the lack of quality with respect to the DVD films & photos, I couldn't disagree more. One thing that people forget is that this is simply a mobile phone, not a specialised digital camera or miniature laptop. I think the quality & motion of picture is fantastic. & although the TV output can be quite hazy, changing the settings can often improve this (although it does vary from TV set to TV set) I can honestly say that the longer I use this phone the more I love it. I wouldn't switch it for any other make or model.

I always research for my next phone, & a few months ago I found this beauty. It has every feature/function I could think of, including barcode reader, which I can't get to work yet.

I have only had the phone since Saturday, but have spent a long time working out how it works. I admit it did take a bit longer to work out, but it was worth it.

I love this phone. Yes, it's a bit big, especially if you have small hands, but the keypad is big, which makes texting easier. I had a Sony Ericsson K750i, not a bad phone, took good photos, but I wanted a phone with wow factor, & I got it. The mobile TV is okay, it's not fluid TV, but the next best thing, & I love it.

I am having trouble with the software, but I think that was my impatience. If you get this phone you will not be disappointed. I put a 95% for usability only because I am afraid of it getting stolen while I am using it. But I am insured.

Maybe I was expecting too much . . . But it is advertised as a camera phone that will provide you with DVD quality video. (It says it on the box . . .) Unfortunately, far from it. Yes, the video recording is much better than probably any other camera phone on the market at the moment but it is still far from DVD quality &, to me, very disappointing. Slow panning produces a rather jerky picture & I found that even using only the 3x optical zoom did not produce clear focused pictures. Putting the finished result on a 36" TV through the cable supplied was extraordinarily disappointing. Certainly not DVD quality & particularly upsetting when the soundtrack divorces itself entirely from the video content somewhere through the picture! There are many features which I liked about the N93 (apart from the appallingly complex, frustrating & - to me - unusable PC interface software) & there's no doubt that Nokia are going in the right direction but this one is only part of the way there. The still pictures were good, but not as good as the Sony Ericsson K800i which has a similar 3.2 mp camera & a proper xenon flash which makes the bright LED light in the N93 look rather useless. The video footage was good but not as good as one had hoped for. &, at the end of the day, one has to admit that this phone (sorry - multi-media device) at 180 grams is huge & heavy. I was prepared to accept that - if it had been amazingly good. Unfortunately, it wasn't. So now I've got a K800i which, apart from its not very good video capabilities, is probably the best camera phone on the market at the moment. However, I believe the new Nokia N95 with a 5mp camera is about to come forth next year & we shall see what that is like. Unfortunately, I understand it still has a rather antiquated LED "flash" which will make all of its five million pixels totally useless in anything but good light. Hey ho!

The Nokia N93 is a great phone, however it is let down by the design. It has every single feature you could possibly need. The design looks messy & untidy the cheaper Nokia 6280 or Motorola Razor looks better but they do not come with the features. Its usability is let down by the fact that the phone would probably be stolen if you were carrying it anywhere in sight, but the design does come as a free safety feature to prevent this. It's still a good phone though.

I cannot review the phone because I don't have one. However I did want to correct someone's statement earlier that the N93 had no "Why-fi" (meaning Wi-Fi, misspelled) & only digital zoom. It in fact does have wireless or wi-fi (both WLAN 802.11b/g) along with Bluetooth (which works on the same frequency) & infra-red. The Carl-Zeiss lens does have a 3x optical zoom. This means there are gears inside that move the lens manually to zoom in up to three times while still allowing for a full 3.2mega pixel quality photo before any digital zooming begins (which digitally enlarges pixels to emulate optical zooming).
