Worst Phone I have ever owned, I always relied on Nokia's in the past, but I am going to have to go for Sony Ericsson again, they are by far the most reliable phones on the market.
Well back to N80, well its dead slow, it takes 5 minutes to send a text message as it freezes on sending, start up time is well over 2 minutes, it's too slow. & it's too chunky & heavy. 2 out of 10.

Excellent all round ability. Like all mobiles it does have its faults the biggest being the WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH as it's been named. Very easy fix. Three quid buys a new ribbon on eBay go to you tube & watch a 10 minute video of a Nokia N80 getting taken apart & within ten minutes you can replace the ribbon on your N80 which cracks & splits through ware & tare & causes the white screen problem & when your done restart & the problem is solved so now you can continue to enjoy one of the best mobiles ever made.

The connections on the slide appear to be poor. When I open the slide the phone will often drop off the connection, lose the screen, this has gotten worse to the point that I have to jiggle the side to see the screen, it is all white. The screen comes back & then drops out again if I slightly move the phone. The camera is terrible unless you are holding it VERY STILL it is all blurred. First & last slide phone I will buy.

Great phone with plenty of features but many of you won't or can't use because there are too many features.
The other disappointment is that it is simply too big. You can't fit it in many pockets & such. But the camera is fantastic! Simply why I am keeping hold of the phone.

This phone is packed with features such as, Wi Fi, Bluetooth, Excellent 3 mega pixel camera & downloadable software, typical Symbian phone.
There is only one bad (very bad) side, the sliding mechanism. There is no spring reaction, not even a click (so that it stays in position). While navigating, the phone ends up sliding down & LOCKING.
Excellent features but terrible design.

Had this phone for 18 months & can not wait to get rid of it. N80 has a known fault with the voice message service, says you have a new voicemail message when actually you haven't.
Had 3 replacements in the last 3 days for a lost phone & all 3 have had the same fault. Orange who I've had the replacements from have the worst customer care department I have ever had to deal with which has resulted in me cancelling my contract.

Best phone I ever had. Bought second hand for £80 off eBay. I was dubious about getting a Symbian based Smartphone as for the last 5 years I've used Windows Mobile handsets, so I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of free software, games, themes, ringtones etc, there are on the web. Not so for Windows Smartphones, & so easy to install with this handset! It has loads of features (most of which I don't use as I have a decent digital camera, laptop for Internet), but what I do use are great.
Now the gripes.
- The only way of getting it unlocked was to get a free Orange SIM (it was locked to Orange), register it & put £20 credit on, & at the same time ask Orange customer services to unlock it, the cost being £20. I carried on using my other mobile for 2 weeks until Orange supplied the unlock code which they had to get from Nokia. This happened in Sept 07, unless something has happened in the last couple of months this is the only way of unlocking these phones (& all BB5 models) so don't believe what these companies say on eBay & the net, they can't do it. Anyway it cost me £25 to get my last windows Smartphone (SDA)unlocked.
- Slide, this is just me as I am not used to them.
- Camera has poor flash but as I said, if I want to take pictures I'll use a proper camera.
- Directional button when playing games its easy to press too much on one side & then go back to the home screen.
- The first time I updated the firmware from the Nokia site it turned the phone into a brick however, the Nokia repair centre sorted this out in 3 days & that includes postage time!
- I haven't used it, but I read on the web that its difficult to get true stereo through a Bluetooth headset without a software patch that you can easily download.
- I've also read that there were some glitches when it was first released, but this was sorted out in later models. I guess some of the reviewers should stick to normal handsets & forget about using Smartphones in future.
Minor niggles.

I got this phone a year ago & was so excited to have a fancy mobile for the first time. I disappointed shortly after. The thing crashes to a white screen almost daily, occasionally several times a day. Keypad is difficult to text with. Battery life is so short I am charging daily. Camera is rubbish, so is flash. Texts take an age to set up, send & download. Plus I have to reset time & date every time I switch the thing back on. I work in a hospital so leaving phone on silent is not an option. I've had it off for repair to no avail & O2 just humour me when I call regarding the latest disasters. This phone was rushed out before all the teething problems were ironed out & I hate that I am stuck with this expensive piece of rubbish equipment until my 18 month contract runs out. I use my old banger Nokia 3310 every day instead rather than the N80. Sony Ericsson here I come. Bah humbug.

Judging by other reviews here I must be very lucky with my n80, I've had it for 17 months with no significant problems whatsoever. Tip-update from the Nokia site & don't let logs & the memory card get too full. Mine is fast & does all it's supposed to do & does it very well. Camera is excellent in good light but flash could be better.

This phone was great at first but my husband had his now for just over a year & a week ago the screen turned white & just refused to work. When the slide is closed it will come back on, limiting your use of the phone without the keypad. This phone started of great but ended up yet another disappointment. On a lighter note, I have a Sony Ericsson & it is 100% better than a Nokia. So on ratings of reliability I would rate a Nokia (ANY Nokia) a clear -100%. Great features but overall it is bad.

A stylish phone jam packed with great features. It's such a shame that this phone is so bad, on paper it's a great phone but it is next to unusable crashing regularly takes ages to turn on & ages to send a text it also needs charging daily. I have never been so disappointed with a phone & can't wait for my contract to run out so I can get a Sony Ericsson. So there you have it I can't honestly think of anything good to say about the N80.

I had it for about a year & a half. Hands down the worst phone ever! Takes too long (around a minute) to send an SMS message, keypad is too small, hangs up frequently, very slow when switching from one screen to another, shortcut key is totally useless, if not troublesome, battery life is a joke, & so on.
You will find yourself cursing when you use it. You just want to throw the phone onto the wall. That's how bad this phone is.
Worst thing was that I've paid top dollar to buy this junk when it came out. I could not sell it, because I could not guarantee it. Plus the fact that nobody wanted to buy it!
Now, my phone chooses what keys it will accept (some keys will work & most of the time will not). Screen starting to fail too - most of the time, it just appears all white. You have to shake it to see the image. What a joke!
I am now shopping for new phone & my first & most important criteria - Anything that is NOT Nokia! Useless junk!

At first I was really impressed with this phone, 12 months on it is absolute rubbish! Stuck in an 18 month contract I am counting down the days until I can throw this heap of rubbish away.
Firstly the battery starts to get weaker & weaker, I am now having to charge it up every night & it dies before the end of the next day.
Secondly it is now taking over TEN yes TEN minutes to send a single text which is ridiculous. Trying to have a conversation with someone over texts is just impossible & by the time the message has sent, often the point of it is too late. Now I am finding with every text message I try to send, at about 9 minutes whilst the phone is frozen in a sending state (& I am unable to do anything with it) it switches itself off & restarts & the message is still sat in the outbox!
I am ready to throw it at the wall or just straight in the bin, Nokia have really let themselves down with this one!

I have had this phone for just over 1 year now & bought it after many hours of research. I will tell you I am very unhappy with this phone. It is continually locking up & this can happen at any time & can take the phone over 1 minute to reset its self, which is a long time when you want to use it!
It has a very poor battery life, it is not very good at signal pick-up & tends to lose the call rather than hang in there as so often has been the case with other phones I have had. After sending a text message the phone will frequently lock up, stopping you from seeing if the text has been sent/re-visiting the main menu/locking the phone so you can continue your life.
This phone needs to go in the bin, which is where it's going when my contract is up!

What a rubbish phone & as a result of it being completely unreliable I have now resulted to using a Nokia 1100 (yes I repeat for all those who can't believe what they are reading) a Nokia 1100! N80 freezes mid call, turns itself off at least four times a day if not more, it takes ages to switch back on, the battery needs charging every day & a half.
My list is boringly endless. RECALL, is all I have to say to Nokia.

I am really impressed in this phone. Most people say this phone's battery backup is low, but the fact is that, the display is quite large not based on size but pixels. 352 X 416. So lighting up this much amount of pixels it needs power.
Forget about that. Major features I've noticed are:
1) Wi -Fi
2) 3 MP Camera (It awesome but lack of auto focus)
3) Video resolution
4) Compact size.
5) 3G
6) UpnP
7) Music Player
After all, I have upgraded to the latest firmware which has Internet telephony. This is the most outstanding feature I haven't seen on other mobile.
You can use your mobile phone as a VOIP phone over Wi-Fi.
Great Phone, I love this.

What a heap of junk. If you need some speed in the way your phone operates, then don't pick this model. Depending on its mood, it can take ages to dial a number or get through the software to create a text message. This is the worst phone I have ever had - BY A LONG WAY. I really would put my SIM into a 5110 if I had one.
Battery life's poor, takes ages to start, slider is cheap & tacky & software is slow. What where Nokia thinking? Decent camera I guess if you don't need a phone to be a phone.

The worst phone I have EVER owned by an absolute mile. A complete & utter chunk of rubbish, which I can't wait to get rid of when my contract expires. Takes ages to send a text & I mean AGES! It can take up to 3 minutes sometimes. No kidding it would be quicker to strap a message to the shell of a tortoise than texting from this bag of rubbish. Camera is abysmal. Despite being 3.0 mega pixels I have seen better photos from a pinhole camera made by a child in a science class. Battery life is approximately 3 minutes so don't plan on making your calls to lengthy. Switches itself off for no reason, sticks, jams, freezes, locks up. The list of soul destroying problems is endless.
In summary, in case you hadn't guessed, I really don't like this phone & suggest you stay away from the Nokia N80.

A great versatile phone. Originally a bit slow & tended to freeze. I updated the software from the Nokia site & then changed the logging level right down following a tip I saw else where on the net & now it is fabulous. Only 4 months left of my 12 month contract, it couldn't end any sooner! Camera is poor. I am yet to have taken a mint picture. MP3 player is bog standard nothing special. Slow, slow, slow. Takes ages to do anything on this phone.
Keylock is rubbish & turns off in your pocket & the battery life is poor, so forget the MP3 player. I have to charge it every day. The camera is 3.0MP but I got better shots from my K750i & the flash on it is useless. It feels like a brick in your pocket & the slide mechanism is the worst I have seen on a phone.
On the upside it looks nice, its feature rich & screen is great but it doesn't make up for its disgraceful downfalls.
Gave it 5% usability, because it won't allow me to select 0%. Avoid this phone.

Initially the phone was prone to crashing but after several software upgrades - the latest to the N80 IE - it is now reliable. The battery life is not great - it does seem to have improved with more recent software. It's packed with features most of which I use regularly & find very useful. It is excellent with Nokia maps with the addition of a cheap Bluetooth PS from eBay. It's a pity the camera lens has no cover & no auto focus but otherwise it's an excellent phone.

Nothing but problems.
I can't connect it to my computer, it turns itself off.
It freezes. Not so much anymore, but the fact that it does it is enough.
Right now, my sim is in an old Nokia 3310 because my N80 decided it would turn itself off & refuse to turn back on.
When changing my 'Theme' my wallpaper changes with it to any random photo in my gallery.
It can be difficult to find simple things because nothing is where it would logically be.
It seems the more technological Nokia get the worse they become. My N80 lasted 7 months & my 7250i lasted a year before it died too. I should have been more wary after my 7250i. My 3310 is my rock, never a problem. Give it a bigger screen & I would buy that over anything Nokia ever brings out again.
COMPLETE & UTTER WASTE OF MONEY. My 3310 is nearly 6 years old & is still kicking. What happened to you Nokia? I trusted you!

I WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS PHONE WHEN I ORDERED IT FROM 3! WHEN IT ARRIVED I WAS PRETTY SHOCKED TO FIND THE PHONE WAS AS BIG & THICK AS IT WAS. BEING A NOKIA THAT DIDNT PUT ME OFF AT FIRST BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THE GREAT RELIABLE PHONE THAT NOKIA LIVE UP TOO. HOW WRONG I WAS.
THE PHONE WAS SLOW, FROZE ALL THE TIME, THE MP3 PLAYER CRASHED CONSTANTLY, THE PHOTO ALBUM WOULDN'T LOAD ANY PICTURES PREVIOUSLY TAKEN, THE PHONE WOULD TURN ITSELF OFF AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, THE BATTERY LIFE WAS APPAULING - HAVING TO CHARGE IT EVERY DAY, TEXTING WAS SLOW & FROZE ON THE 'SENDING TEXT MESSAGE' SCREEN FOR AT LEAST A MINUTE & THE SOFTWARE IN GENERAL WAS RUBBISH. MY BROTHER ALSO HAD THIS PHONE & HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS I HAD ABOVE & RECCOMENDED I UPDATED MY PHONES SOFTWARE VIA THE NOKIA WEBSITE, WHICH I DID. THE PHONE SEEMED TO WORK FINE FOR THE FIRST WEEK THEN SUDDENLY SLIPPED BACK INTO ITS OLD HABBITS AGAIN.
I CAN SAY THE PRO'S FOR THIS HANDSET IS THE CAMERA - WHEN IT STORES THE PHOTO'S & THE MEMORY CARD FACILITY WAS HANDY. IF YOU WANT A DECENT 3 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA THEN THIS IS the CAMERA TO GET. AS FOR A PHONE, DON'T EVEN CONSIDER IT.

I am sorry Nokia, but this phoned ruined our relationship. I've always been a very big fan of Nokia, but this is the last Nokia I'll ever get. The battery life is shorter than a mayfly's life & the photo's are of very poor quality if taken anywhere else than in daylight. Luckily I only signed for a 12 month contract, a very long 12 months, but end is in sight! Very poor design, too bulky & the camera lens is open at the back, meaning it can scratch easily. What were the designers thinking when they designed this phone? (If I look at the design it seems they weren't thinking at all).
I think Nokia tried to be too fancy with all the extra features.
I wouldn't give my phone for FREE to a friend when I upgrade as I am too scared it will ruin my friendship.
My advice: Don't buy!

Awful phone! There are many things that do my head in about this phone, the main one being the constant freezing, especially when sending a text, up to 2 mins sometimes, ridiculous! As I am on pay as you go I can't upgrade or even replace what a fool I was in buying it! Oh & the camera is absolutely rubbish in any light other than strong sun light (which we rarely see in this country!)
Thanks for listening!

It is the best phone any person can get within this price range. It is better than N73 or N93 & its screen resolution is even more than N95. It is true! If you don't trust me, you can check. I own N80 for 9 months. I upgraded it regularly. But it has no volume button & that is the only drawback.

Great looking phone which looks even better on paper, however, we are just in process of downgrading all of our company handsets to N73s.
Main issues I have with the N80:
1) When you slide the phone down it unlocks the keyguard so that you can make a call quickly, however, this also means when it is in your pocket (even with cover on) it can easily drop by 1mm & unlocks. We are constantly having pocket send-offs - this is just bad design.
2) Battery is awful, phones need charging daily with little talktime use. It is much less than the claimed times from Nokia.
3) One of the main reasons for buying this phone was the 3 megapixel camera, but it does not have autofocus so it useless. All the shots come out blurry, you have to be very lucky to get a decent shot. The pictures on our E70 & our 1 megapixel 6230i are much better.
4) Finally, signal is terrible on these phones.
Don't buy the N80, get the N73 instead - better camera (has autofocus), no slide design & both battery & signal seem better.

Great phone! I have used it for six months now, & I love it. The design is very good, except for its depth, apart from that it's really nice. Usability is affected a bit if you have fat fingers, but you'll get used to it. The black one is more eye-catching. Very very good phone, buy it! I've ever had any problem with it, except for a couple of freeze, update the software.

Aaaaaaaaaaaarrghhhhhhhhhhh! Phew, I needed that. Persevered with this phone for 10 months. No replacements got the firmware updates, sms accelerator & 2GB memory card. Its still rubbish. I have always used Nokia & have found them all to be extremely good, so when this was released I thought it would be the same. Ooops, wrong! Slider is very poor, probably because the phone is too big for it. It has a lot of features, probably too many to be honest. Good sound, I have found the pictures to be very good when transferred to PC & printed. Unfortunately Nokia, you need to do better than this one!

I have owned this phone for a few months now which is running on the updated software from Nokia & I am totally happy with it I have had no problems whatsoever. Boots up in 25 seconds including entering pin & discarding anti virus update message, texts sent in 10 seconds which is not too slow, screen resolution is brilliant, camera picture is detailed & of good quality. It has everything you need its easy to use & it's reliable with the latest software. My only moan is they don't come with enough memory as standard so I would also budget for a 1GB mini sd card so as you can save all of your mp3s & pictures on it.

I would have been willing to forgive the chunkiness of the design, the missing daily alarm function that is only replaceable by third party software, the way the camera only takes sharp photos in bright sunlight, the way you can't turn the pathetic flash off permanently, & the rattly slider that can just about be corrected by adding a protective case, because the n80 has more functions than you will ever need. Come on, a Super Nintendo emulator - & Doom, & editing MSWord docs on you mobile? The sound, although mono through the speaker is really good. & the WLAN is an essential, because the Nokia mobile browser is brilliant. But the battery life on this phone is awful. It's not so much that you have to charge it every day, it's that the battery life indicator either shows full or nothing, & that the actual battery only lasts about three months with all that charging. It makes the n80 UNRELIABLE, which is a complete deal breaker. I've got to the stage where I am going to solder a Sony battery into the case & chop it to fit - because otherwise I'd just chuck it.

I have had the same problems with the phone locking after sending text messages. After having the phone repaired four times & a new hand set, I have finally got to the bottom of this problem.
After spending hours & hours on the phone to a call centre & being told that it was my fault, it now turns out that it was not.
Here is why- the Nokia N80 & n73 had something programmed into the software to store every message sent in the internal phone memory. After sending lots of messages, the phone slows down as the phone memory fills up.
Every time my phone freezed, it would be sent back to be repaired where they would clear the memory & it would appear to work fine until I started sending messages & the phone would start to lock again.
The solution is, you can download software called the sms excellerater. It is free to download & takes 2 minutes.
Since downloading this software, my phone has been great! Hope this helps.

I like the N80 for its design, features & easy use. However, this phone is full of bugs & glitches which really frustrate me.
I rushed to get this phone as soon as it was released on Orange & took up an 18 month contract. If there is one thing I am going to regret in life, so far its getting this phone & contract. I suffer from the same glitches as everyone else, also finding my videos won't save without corrupting & pictures are disappearing. Also Orange are a pain & their network coverage seems bad. Especially when I am in work! I have around 8-6 Months left on the contract & I am currently looking into a decent pay as you go unlocked phone to use until it's finished.

If you're having freezing issues after sending an SMS, then go to the Nokia website & look for the software section for the n80, very convoluted menu structure, but it's in there, (I promise).
Download the 'SMS Accelerator' & all your problems will be gone, I was ready to throw the damn thing out the window before I installed that.
Everything else is still way too slow. Who the hell designs these things? 'Ah yes, a drunk snail would go faster than that. Let's release it! '

Compared to some of the other and series phones I thought this looked fantastic. OK a bit on the chunky side but have you seen the size of the N91.
The battery life has been absolutely woeful with a charge required every day & I wouldn't consider myself a heavy user.
Software is average my second N80 hasn't crashed much, nowhere near much as the 1st N80 I had replaced.
The worst thing about this phone though is the slide function, it doesn't auto lock the keypad & it doesn't close applications when you close the slide. I have even closed the slide & locked the keypad but had only to find closing the slide hasn't ended the call I was on!
Poor show come on Nokia stop putting useless features on your phones & go back to basics :- good design, good battery life & above all it must be user friendly!

To user swapping for Samsung D900, it is easy to snap PCB board inside because phone is to thin so don't keep it in back pocket! Never had freezing up or battery life problems. Feels like carrying a brick about, you also have to make sure you turn the keypad off each time you put it in your pocket or in a case as the buttons on the front get activated easily & before you know it, you are connected to some website (costly).
I have had 3 occasions in the past 2 months when the phone decides to turn itself off & it tells me to insert my memory card. When I turn it back on, I have to reset my screensaver.
It is NOT COMPATIBLE with AUDI in car blue tooth as it does not read the SIM card as it should which is a real pain.
All other features are excellent & the sound quality on the music player is above average.

I was excited about getting this phone, it looks nice & is packed with technology. After having it for 8 months, I can honestly say that I hate it. The battery lasts less than 24hours, it turns itself off regularly, it often has 'general memory faults'. Everytime I send a text message it freezes for 4 MINUTES!
After 4 months of having this phone, I complained to Orange about its performance. I explained that it froze for 4 minutes after sending a text. Orange told me that this was to do with Nokia & that they were waiting for a firmware update. They said there was nothing they could do. I asked if they thought it was reasonable for a phone to freeze for 4 minutes after sending a message. Their reply was that it was a safety feature that stopped the phone from completely crashing & having to be switched off. Eventually, they agreed to send me a new phone.
the new phone arrived & has all the same problems. My advice is to stay away from the N80!

I am now on my 5th phone but Orange just send me a new one each time one goes wrong. I phoned again yesterday & Nokia have an update on their website which should apparently fix the problem. Have downloaded it & we will see.
As I said this is a great phone I have a 1GB card in mine, so loads of memory, never had any problems with the way it works, just getting fed up of it sending pictures to my friends in my pockets. Could have done with some better games, never even heard of most of the card games.
I am now looking to get the N95 as soon as it released hopefully the pocket thing on it will be cured.

As many of the others have said, previously I would never have looked at another make of phone, Nokia has always been way up there in my estimations. Until now! The N80 is a huge let down, I waited on this model coming on the market for months, what a disappointment. When I first got it I thought it was just me being stupid & unable to work it. It constantly hangs up, battery life is very poor, it's touch & go whether the WAP works or not, insufferably slow, so frustrating when sending a text, it takes for ever! Couldn't get it to synchronise with my PC (that may just be me being the techno-dinosaur) but don't find it very user friendly at all.
So for the first time ever I am selling 'the brick' (as my children have christened it) & buying a Samsung D900. As someone else said, Nokia will have to work some to get this customer back.

What a shame! This phone has got such a nice design & feels good to hold BUT, its performance lets it down - it's all to do with the firmware.
After numerous e-mails & calls to Orange & Nokia I was finally informed that not only had Orange pulled this phone from its range & was not offering support for it, it would not release a firmware update for customers who have already upgraded to it.
Version 4.xxxxxx apparently fixes a lot of the Bluetooth & re-booting/crashing issues but is only available to Generic versions of the phone.
Finally having complained higher up the Orange chain of command I was offered a new phone/upgrade within my current contract period which. Well done Orange!

When I went to buy this phone even the guy in the mobile shop said it was awful & advised me to go for the Sony Ericsson k800i. But I thought he was just chasing a better commission! I was wrong. I am so disappointed I've only ever owned Nokia's. What clot thought it a good idea to have a keypad that unlocks itself when opening the slider? That's just the beginning; it's been back for repair 3 times since I bought it for all manner of software faults. The last time I had it back I put it back in the drawer & I've gone back to my old 6230i (what a great phone). The N80? Well Nokia must be kicking themselves. I've had this phone 6 months now & have a few pains with it.
This is actually the second one Orange have given me. The first kept loosing connectivity with the memory card. The second one does the same but after the new phone feeling wears off I hardly use it.
It takes OK photos but really you'd want to use a digital camera. The photos I have taken are now corrupted on the memory card, duplicating them all.
The text message send takes ages but I'll follow a link from this forum to download a software patch.
Syncs well with outlook.
To delete all messages in the inbox you can go 'Options>>Mark all>> delete' should save you hours!
You can also set the call log history to be less than 30 days which reduces phone memory usage.
Battery is poor - expect to charge daily if you actually use it at all.
Bluetooth is bad on it - doesn't work with my GPS software. (This is also because it is Symbian ver. 3.0 - not compatible with loads of prior software)
The slidey keypad does annoy me but I've got round it by 'locking' the phone after 10 mins of activity. This means I have to enter a unlock code every time I use it but at least I've stopped phoning my mum from my pocket.
Hope you find some of this useful, shame I am on an 18 month contract. Go for the Sony. :o)

I bought this phone on upgrade last September having read various reviews in the press. Reads very well & looks nice but that is where it ends. It is anything but simple to operate, it dies without warning (usually at the most inopportune moment), the battery life is pathetic, the keyboard seizes up, it switches itself on without warning, the blue flashing light is enough to wake the dead, the typeface is far too small, the reception is extremely unreliable, etc, etc, etc. I explained to O2 that it was not of merchantable quality, that it was not fit for purpose & that the advertisements were positively misleading but that cut no ice whatsoever. They could not have been less helpful & I was continually shunted between Customer Services & their shop - it has finally been sent away for repair (no replacement phone available from O2 to tide me over) & I have had to revert to my old XDA while I wait for its return. The XDA does everything I want it to do even though it is a tad chunky, but it is infinitely better than the Nokia N80. It is significant that none of the network operators are offering this phone any longer. If anyone should be tempted to buy (or even take a gift of) an N80 take my advice - DON'T!

Why didn't Nokia put a simple manual lock on it. No though was put into this at all. I bought this phone as soon as I could to replace my Motorola, however, I hardly take the n80 with me, ( especially in the summer when I don't wear a jacket with internal pockets). What a waste of money it was, as I am still using the Motorola 90% of the time.
Other problems. Screen goes white, slow start up, slow camera, speakerphone volume too low, centre navigation button too sensitive, battery life too low, stops charging itself.

Agree with the vast majority of reviews this phone is a total waste of metal. battery life is as good as 4 year old varta from Wilkinson, features are good but if you use any of them the battery life is reduced even further. so as advised by the ever helpful people at Orange of Bombay I have turned off all these features such as 3G & Bluetooth which gives me enough battery life to make 4 three min calls & 3 texts a day before it goes flat (about 1.5 days).then we have all this s. Tware (insert as desired) glitches as reviewed by other unfortunately second phone in two months number 3 just around the corner please do yourself a favour & avoid at all costs. You have been warned!

Absolutely shocked with this phone. I have been the proud owner of nokias for many years as they was always the best build, easy to use brilliant phone but my gosh this phone it's utterly bad.
I am on my 4th handset & can't wait to get shot of the thing as soon as my contract runs out.
Many many problems, could go on & on & on. Here are a few of the main 1s
-freezes constantly
-freezes when sending a text taking at least 1 min 30 & you can't do anything else whilst it is sending
-blank screen, it will just go white & you can't do nothing
-battery dies with 24 hours
-problems with charging the phone
-problems turning on the phone
-very slow to load applications
-suppose to be a 3 megapixel camera & I am pretty sure it isn't!
So to some up, don't EVER buy this phone or it will cause you havoc from the day you get it.

First one I got was mint from the Orange shop, till water damage then it went down hill.
Now I am on my 4th handset, problems include:
2nd- arrows/directional's buttons not working when phone was open & battery doesn't even last a day.
3rd- phone has a mind of its own & starts going through menu & among other things.
4th- hoping nothing goes wrong.

I hate this phone! I looked for months for a great new Nokia as I've always used them. I wish I never bothered getting this one. It has constant connection errors. Numbers I have stored in my contact list show up as unrecognised. If I open the slide too fast, the phone jams up & I have to take out the battery to reboot it. Orange won't give me a new phone because they insist there is nothing wrong with it! Can't wait for my contract to end to be honest, don't buy this phone.

The design color, everything is perfect. Some. Sis files cannot be installed, but it really doesn't matter much. The 4 way navigation key is a bit hard to use, & 3 top 3 buttons on the keypad, 1 2 & 3 are tough to use specially for women with long nails. Good sound quality. Very sensitive phone. Another downside is that, after re naming a picture, if any exclamation mark is included, the file is shown as corrupted. But other than the exclamation mark its fine. Not many themes or games either. Still picture quality is very good, but video quality isn't very good. Radio is good too. Feels a bit uncomfortable when talking. All in all, the N80 is a good phone, it's worth it! :D

I have had Nokia phones for years. They are developing new systems & leaving out some very good old systems (auto key lock after 10 seconds, enlarge text size, able to read the screen in daylight!).The key pad is great (nice colour at night) easy to use enough space not to hit other keys. The up-down-left-right key hard to use, easy to hit other keys & go to other sections. Looking at Sony Ericsson W850i or W050i, Nokia should have given more people this phone to test!

All the tricks you could want BUT very frustrating to use. Incredibly slow, you send a text & the phone freezes while it sends, disabling you from doing anything else. Suffers regularly from Connection Errors & frequently needs re-booting! Can't wait to get shot of it to be honest. Shame as it promises a lot, which it does deliver, but fails to provide the usability that is essential for a mobile phone.

I got 2 of these on contract for me & my brother & we just love it! At first we hated the fact that to send a message it took ages but when we went onto the Nokia website we found out that if you send a lot of text messages it fills up the memory. There is a download called the sms excelorator & when this has been downloaded to your phone it speeds it back up to normal. No problems with the signal as were in a good signal area. As for the Battery life I don't seem to have a problem as I put my phone on charge every night as always like to have a full battery.

This is without doubt the WORST phone I have ever owned. Took out a contract with Orange in June & I am now on handset number 6! Continual problems with handset locking, rebooting, screen blanking out, vibrator alert stopping working. Need I go on?
If you are even considering buying one of these, DON'T! I have now changed back to Sony Ericsson which I know & love.
I will without doubt NEVER own another Nokia again.
You have been warned :-)

If you were waiting for this phone, please don't bother. A victory for technological gimmicary over phone usability.
I have owned this phone as my work phone for 8 weeks, so have tried to persevere with it & just given up.
Here are a few of the common problems that I have had:
1. Phone crashes more often than Jenson Button.
2. Corrupts expensive memory cards, ruining data.
3. The battery goes flat very quickly.
4. The signal strength will drop out suddenly even in good areas.
If you are considering buying this, you may want to look at two tin cans with a piece of string between them - cheaper & just as effective. :)
Just bought an N73, review to follow.

Yeah yeah feature filled, great camera-dreadful phone-never owned anything as poor. The media player is cool, the camera is good, stick a mini SD in it & you're rolling-IF & this is a big if the damn thing actually works-it's sliding mechanism was shocking-it constantly opened-connected to the Internet-even if you disabled the auto connection thingy-the text msg send was dire-it took for ever & froze you out of doing anything at all. The phone randomly called people-& to add insult to injury it was the second one I owned-after returning the first due to software glitches! Poor poor poor-full stop end of story. Gonna try the N73 hope this'll be a bit better.

Only borrowed an N80 for a day so didn't get to try everything but on the whole it seemed like a good Smartphone with almost every feature you could ever need. Unlike most people (including the mate i borrowed it from) I had no problems with signal. Didn't have it long enough to comment on battery life but the stupid flashing blue light can't help! Didn't like the slide cos i kept opening it every time i tried to take it out of my pocket. I was shocked by the lack of autofocus.
If you want WI-if get the N80. If you don't, get the N73.

Got the Nokia N80 a week ago & getting to grips with it. Overall its a very high spec phone. Lots of features, some I'm sure I will never use.
- Its quite a 'manly' phone in design & bulky.
- Can be slow in use but what do you expect with all the features on the phone itself.
- You have to move the slider fully yourself, there is no 'spring' to help
- No cover on the camera so need to be careful with it
BUT all in all I still think its a fab phone, camera is amazing, really clear photos, 3g is great too. Great Phone!

GREAT LOOKING PHONE, FAR TOO SHORT BATTERY LIFE THOUGH, AND SCREEN FREEZES, CAUSING YOU TO HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 1M 30S TO SEND ONE TEXT MESSAGE AND IT DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO DO ANYTHING ELSE. YOU NEED TO CHECK SENT BOX AFTER EVERY MESSAGE 'SENT' AS THEY SIMPLY GO INTO DRAFT BOX FAR TOO OFTEN AND DO NOT SEND AT ALL.

Like others on this site, the N80 is a lovely phone which actually misses the mark. It's a real shame & I will have to consider getting rid of it as well.
The problems are the same as others, text font so small that I have to get my glasses out to ready ANYTHING on the screen. Signal strength is a bit suspect & it tends to drop leaving you talking to yourself!
There's virtually no add on software available yet & although the WiFi is good it's difficult to connect to, you seem to have to go online via WAP & then switch.... Seems strange but I can't find another way of doing it.
Battery life is poor at 24 - 36 hours but the phone looks nice.

A victory for style over substance. Every fancy doohickey in existence & it is very, very good. BUT, & it is a monster big BUT, battery life can be dire (24hrs) & if you are in the countryside, reception is awful. It will drop calls, lose network coverage & be a pain in the whatsit. I've gone back to my old phone - far more rural.

So far had various phones by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Sagem & Samsung. This phone has almost everything I could want - reasonable camera, mp3 player, radio, dozens of great features EXCEPT phone reception & battery life. The poor battery life I could live with (that's what car chargers are for), but the reception is so weak that I have been constantly missing calls. So much so that I've resorted to using my sim in an old phone, which renders the N80 little more than an entertaining toy. I'm so sad this great phone is not up to the job. It goes back tomorrow, & I'll look elsewhere :(

It's very nice a N80 Nokia design. I try a N80 Nokia mobile, look up everything features & also got a wireless connecttivity! What ever come up new mobile, always high tariffs from £30 to £75 in O2 network? I already bought a N80 Nokia, I gave to my wife. Because her contact, nearly expire at the end of the month.

Black version is now available at CPW on O2 in stores! I would recommend the Sony Ericsson k800i if you want a cracking phone with 'basic' add-ons (camera, mp3 etc). If you want smartphone features go for the n80 initial software issues & lack of auto focus aside!

Well after a long wait I finally got 2 of these on contract with Vodafone. Got to say it is one of best phones I have had, while im ok with symbian my other half found it a little slow, & to be honest depending what I was doing the phone at times slows down to a stop. The feel of the phone is 1st class, but having said that you always feel like you have to "mother" it, e.g. the slightest bang or knock or rub will have you cringing. Not a phone to take to work with you unless you're in an office. Wifi is fantastic, connects to broadband without to much fuss & Nokia home media suite is great. Camera is good but not what you would expect from 3mill pix, also no auto focus, so a very steady hand is needed, same applies to video. Also no cover for lens. Sounds on this phone are loud but tinny, even the built in settings don't make much difference. But all in all this phone is one of best I have had bar the biggest fault of all, the internal antenna. For people in poor reception areas this phone just does not come close to any other, I tried 3 other phones all getting 3-4bars, while the N80 struggles between 1 & nothing. Broke my heart but both had to go back. So unless you are in a 100% reception area on whatever network beware, N80 does not like weak signals. I will be looking for N80 on different network, but other half wont, typically it feels, looks & acts like a male phone. :o)

Great concept, but the reality is very poor indeed. Lack of autofocus on camera is slightly annoying, but the handset has major speed issues! Changing between applications can be painfully slow & at times my handset has crashed & had to restart. A word of warning to anyone who is considering buying this phone & who does not have near-perfect eyesight - DON'T!!!! The text on menus & SMS is the smallest I have seen on any device ever & you can't change it.

Well, Typically - the pre advertising boasts an all-black version - but I don't see that option on the Nokia Website. So presumably they're going to make us wait - forcing us to take the silver option in the meantime. Anyone seen a black one advertised for sale so far? Almost perfect is right too - it doesn't appear to have a voice recorder or a qwerty keyboard which would have finished it off nicely. Great phone though clearly. Come on Nokia stop playing with the market & get the black one out!
