I've been using this phone for nearly two years now. It was sold to me & I can understand from the many advanced features as a smart phone it had back then. But as with all Nokia phones there's the design faults & reliability issues! Do any of these sound familiar?
- Kaleidoscopic colour display that just goes into tertiary colours just whenever it feels like it!
- Intermittent loudspeaker, now almost defunct!
- Iffy back with broken spring loaded catch at the bottom.
- Often I cut somebody off with the 'green' button 'area'.
- Giving it to a new person to try & they'd need training just to answer the call!
- As with all Nokia's the dirt & dust loves getting under the screen, has Nokia ever heard of IP65!
- Flimsy jack for charging, one has broken very easily, battery life seems OK.
- You can lose the back light display intermittently & in bad light you're guessing the characters on the keys!
- I am not convinced about page loading from web-sites, I think it's very slow, maybe it's comparable.
- I am not a mobile fanatic (it's only my 4th ever phone since the age of mobiles! Umm & I've still stuck with Nokia.
- It's a love hate relationship with this phone & it's pretty robust despite the above faults.
The technology is awesome & although I drive with the Renault Laguna Bluetooth (sadly that isn't advanced enough to download the mobile's phone book. Grr! ) BUT the mobile fits perfectly in the flip up cigarette lighter bin just by the hand brake, good place for leaving it to top up with a charge instead of sliding around on the front passenger seat. Finally absolutely impossible to dial or send messages whilst you're driving without being too distracted & therefore illegal anyway!
I am due an upgrade should I go E72 or BlackBerry 8520 or 9100?

Could the N78 be the worst mobile phone ever? I have persevered with it for nearly a year & I still would like to flush it down the loo. It is slow & difficult to use. You need to press the buttons so many times just to send a call you get fed up just by the process. I have cut off so many people calling me I have lost count. One star is a star too many for this lamentable excuse of a mobile phone.

The best & longest battery life phone I've ever use. It could last 6 days after fully charging & the features match the latest N-Series phones regarding the battery life, this one fits the best for it.

I would just like 2 say that I am disappointed that there's only 3.2MP in this phone I haven't bought it yet & that has really had me think again Nokia, if you make an N78i put AT LEAST 5MP camera on it.
Is the 3.2MP any good because it's between this & something with a 5MP camera this looks good but it's disappointing. I haven't bought it yet when I get it I will put a review up with proper ratings. Please help.

Let's be absolutely clear, this N78 is a masterpiece & I cannot understand why some of these reviews are so negative. I have always had business Nokia phones for many years & wanted a larger screen model to replace my 1 year old E51. My other prime requirements were solid battery life & in the N78, it regularly gives 4 to 5 days usage before I top up. The keyboard took a little while to master but I can text one handed just as competently as before so no worries there. If people take the time to experiment with all the fantastic features, including the camera, it rewards you with satisfying results. The styling is ultra cool & never fails to get inquisitive comments. The SatNav is rapid & accurate as is the FM radio transmitter & the Internet radio. The stereo speakers are a little tinny but with the FM transmitter you can play music on a HiFi or even in the car. I guess those with locking up problems are running too many applications at once, take time & exit non essential applications properly & you won't have an issue. Call performance & quality are outstanding even using Fring & SIP Internet calls via Wi-Fi. Outstanding kit.

Simply the best phone in the world! Superb design with keyboard more usable than other phones. Incredible hardware & if you have practice with S60 software, you can do anything. At this price we can say bye bye to iPhone & other high cost phones

I bought this phone at the beginning of the year. So far it's been very handy and stylish. It doesn't turn heads, but helps with confidence when you ask for people's phone numbers. Adds some class to a person's overall persona. The sound on it is absolutely awesome. For sure its louder than the iPhone 3G. If you're looking for a phone with good speakers, this one is definitely it. Really handy when I'm washing the dishes or something. Also there is a 3mm plug on top for headphones. It's basically plug and listen like any mp3. The design is very unique and have not yet met a person with the same cell. I know when everyone sees the phone the first thing they notice is the keypad. So far I've had no problems with it. Didn't take a very long time to get use it. People with bigger hands or fingers might have some problems though, not too sure. Nokia could have placed a 5mp camera on this though and also a slide for the lens. The quality of the pictures taken are good (average). Not above average I'd say. The flash is way too bright though. That's the thing I find about the N series for Nokia (such as the N85). The flash really annoys my friends when I try to take pictures at a not well lit restaurant. Equivalent to a flash bang maybe? Let's talk about the applications. Nothing much to talk about. Like everyone N-series it's equipped with everything you'd need to survive. GPS, 3G, Bluetooth and all that jazz. The battery life has been (in my opinion) above average. It might just be because it's a new phone. However, I'm going on 5 days without charging and it's still kicking. I guess I don't work it excessively, so basically what I'm saying is it will survive 5 days on one charge if you don't overwork it. The only real thing I dislike is that the cover on the back of the phone sort of shifts a lot. It makes clicky sounds when I text or do anything on the phone. It's not loose, but just doesn't seem to become perfectly tight. Also, it's quite annoying that with the N-series you can't make your wallpaper show up on the whole screen on the default themes. I like the Nokia themes, but it seems to only let me put my wallpaper in the majority of the screen but leaves the top part with default background!
Overall this stylish 3G Nokia phone is well equipped. If you're looking for a phone in the mid to high pricing range with awesome an awesome sound and more than enough apps, then this phone is right for you.

Hay Everybody, I read up the other reviews on the site & also researched the phone elsewhere. This phone is FANTASTIC, the WLAN feature is brilliant, but I must say I did have it dropping connection so after software was reloaded the WLAN worked flawlessly, surfing the web is fast & you can jump between sites with easy navigation.
Camera is very good & so is movie making. Geo Tagging of the photos is brilliant! I don't have any problems with the keys.
The breathing feature on the Navi Key is really cool & so easy to navigate through the screens using it! ;).
The multimedia key on the right is also very handy to get to your music, photos, maps etc at the touch of one button!
Music jack is 3mm so you now get your music & radio in stereo.
I have not played a game on it yet but will be trying.
Oh yes, naturally the WLAN will use up the battery so it you are not online surfing just switch of the WLAN which you can see on the main screen. Reconnecting is one touch away & then surf away.
Overall I must say this is an excellent phone, if you want a candy bar style phone filled with great features, tools & applications then I would say this in the one for YOU! Enjoy!

This phone is great.Bought it for 15500 Rupees & it is worth the money as there are many good features like camera (3.2 MP) & wi-fi. Keypad is the only bad feature on this phone as typing is not so easy especially with one hand. If anyone who doesn't text much can go for this one. It's cool!

I've had N70, N95, N95 8GB & the N82 & I like this more than any of them. It's given me less problems & the keys once you're used to them are fine. The software is fine with the only glitch I've noticed is if you use the FM transmitter you have to restart it before you use the speakerphone.
Camera is OK, music player is spot on, radio reception first class & the FM transmitter is a great addition.
Overall I'd recommend this phone to anyone.

It's a good phone but so far I found on 2 points Nokia could have done a lot better than that, the plastic looks of the phone is cheap and keep is not bad but as I said could have been better than that. I suppose they were trying to keep it light weight as to other N series handsets, also I couldn't figure that out what they call it in built GPS system, overall not a bad phone though.

Clearly a lot of people who write reviews don't have one or have merely seen one in a shop. I was looking for a business phone with all the features. I found it in this phone & recommend it to anyone looking for state of the art features.
It's undoubtedly the very best phone I've ever had. It has a range of features which makes your average PC look sick. The features which I find particularly good are:
- The inbuilt GPS with rapid position determination. This thing knows where you are within seconds. Navigation works a treat too.
- The camera, really excellent quality.
- Instant photo upload to your favourite website. Unbelievable, within seconds the photo can be seen on FLICKR.
- GPS tagging of the photos.
- FM transmitter to play your music collection on the car radio.
- Internet Radio stations.
- WiFi.
- Internet browser.
- It's light & slim.
- Built in Adobe pdf reader, RealPlayer, I am client.
Everyone I've shown it to thinks it's an attractive phone.

Simply, people who say the keypad is bad, are people who judge things by the looks, & have a preconceived idea before even trying the pad, & even after trying it, they still have the same idea.
For me, this is the best looking N-Series ever because I like minimal decorations. I don't want a spoiler, or platinum rims in my mobile phones. People who dislike the way the N78 looks, are people who would like to have a sunroof in their mobile phone.
As for features, they fit me more than the N82. I don't want a 5Mpx cam, I don't want a Xenon flash, I don't want a TV Out. But I want a better battery, I want a fun interface.
For usability, the OS is great, & the buttons are really good, just take sometimes to get to used to, but once I am used to the keypad, it's the best.

Very disappointed with the phone, feels very cheap & plasticy, lots of fingerprints on both sides, slow menu, navi wheel way too sensitive so it's better to turn it off otherwise you end up going back & fort from different application but the one you wanted to open & text buttons really from another world, good maybe to be on your stereo but definitely not on the phone. If you're using Bluetooth you get first any file into your messages & than you have to save it into location it belongs into music, photos etc. Even my 5 years old Samsung used to do it itself. Also if you have Mac computer you are stuck as they don't support this phone yet. Hopefully they will in some point.
Overall I was looking forward for this phone big time & now want to almost cry. If your looking to buy new Nokia better wait till N96 comes out, I hope it will be better than this.

Probably the worst ever keypad on a phone ever. It's crammed in & doesn't work very well at all. It rocks, rolls, creaks, feels cheap & looks dull.
Full of great features & a lovely new FP2 operating system but it's no fun to use at all. It's definitely a try before you buy model.

A great prospect for Nokia, will probably gather more ground than the N82 just because of its sleek design. This is, however, one question.
Does it have an In Built GPS receiver or will we have to buy it separately?

Apparently, the release date for the N78 is end April 2008, but Nokia haven't given & exact date for the N78. If you can wait, the release date for the N96 is August 2008. It should be a better bit of kit.
