My phone keeps on hanging constantly. It's not even been a month or two that I'm using it. It's really a pain to wait for like ages until it decides on its own to switch off & restart, whenever I use gallery or have 2 save images or delete nothing, & phone literally dies. Feel as if the phone owns me not vice versa. Hate Nokia.

I have had this phone for about a year now & I keep finding more & more faults with the phone. The majority of the parts on the phone I am impressed with. However it is so slow! It takes at least a minute to turn on, & often freezes. If Nokia were able to sort this out then I would go straight to the shop & buy an improved one.

I've had this phone about 2 years now & am still pleased with it. No permanent problems (froze maybe twice in 2 years, removing & replacing battery sorted that). Love the computerised voice tags, very useful if you're in the car on hands free & need to call someone, you don't need to have previously recorded a voice tag, the phone does it for you & is very good at recognising them.

Only quibbles, camera slide is a bit loose & the phone doesn't lock automatically. Also wish I'd bought a cover as it's got fairly scratched. Liked the design when it was new but only gave it 75% now as I am looking at the 6500 slide which is a beautiful design (although usability reviews aren't good). My wife is looking forward to receiving my N70 as soon as I get a new phone!

At first, looked like a promising phone, but after having it for a year & a half the battery life has severely decreased & as a result stays on for about 2 hours of use before turning itself off. Not only this, but it decides to turn itself off very often which is a pain.

Hey all. Had this phone on an Orange contract, & in short it is why I am now with Sony! Keys too small, would freeze up all the time, backlight had a mind of its own, start up time was about a minute, slide kept falling open, poor camera, heavy & bulky. Went on holiday to Norway & it did not work there so I nearly threw it into a lake! AVOID! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

IT'S MANLY, BUT TILL TODAY I COULD NOT TAKE ANY VIDEO WITHOUT the FLASH LIGHT. IRRITATING ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DON'T WANT TO LET PEOPLE KNOW.

IT'S the FASTEST AMONG ALL PHONES. BUT INSTEAD OF INCREASING the MEMORY OF IT'S PHONES (512MB TO 2GB IN N70, 4GB TO 8 GB IN N95), SHOULDN'T Nokia MAKE the PROCESSING SPEED PROPORTIONATE ALONG MEMORY. MAY BE I DON'T HAVE PATIENCE. I FEEL THIS BECAUSE EVERYBODY ASK the MAXIMUM EXPANDABLE MEMORY BUT I LOOK FOR HOW FAST IT CAN BE PROCESSED.

& of course, it has a 2MP camera which is also good.

I got this phone 2 months ago, poor battery life. I have to recharge battery daily. Music is not as good as Sony Ericsson, but sound is loud enough. Anyway the phone is slow. It takes 2 minutes to start up. Size is too big. Slider is difficult to manage. Always slides down so camera opens. The flash for video is very poor. Every time when we press music button, it loads full sound collection. It takes long time. Otherwise it's delay in processing.

This is & was a great phone. I say was because mine recently died on me. I am not saying it was the phones fault. I did put it through quite a bit. I had it for almost a year & can quite easily say that it was one of the best phones I have ever owned, Though I am still looking, nothing has beaten my old 3315. Yet.

Only a couple of gripes with it though.

- The slide cover on the back was horribly annoying, if it slid down & uncovered the camera whether in use or not it would remove the lock on the keypad so numbers could freely be pressed.

- It seemed to take a long time to do anything. A minute to boot up, 15 second to open a message, this seems a little wrong to me. A friend of mine updated the firmware & he said it fixed that problem, so I guess it isn't all bad.

I am quite surprised how many negative reviews there are for that nice looking phone. I am a N70 user for about 2 & a half years now & it has freezed only 2 or 3 times. I think that all of the guys that complaint that he phone freezes regularly either had the worn software installed, or just had a rubbish built phone.

As for the phone, yes, it is kind of slow, it boots for ages & have some minor bugs, but apart that it is a very classy & stylish phone with lots of extras, talking for its release date of course. What it lacks badly, the screen resolution is 176 x 208 & that spoils the overall image of the otherwise big screen.

However I am replacing that vet with a Nokia E51 & hope that it will run faster, won't have that sometimes annoying bugs & the screen image would be a much better experience.

Worst phone I ever owned by far. Firstly it is unbelievably slow, it takes about 2 minutes just to turn it on & use. If you press e.g. Contacts there is a massive delay. If you want to view photos, forget it. The battery life terrible but that isn't because of processing power. Worst of all, I found out its not compatible with the factory Bluetooth on my car, you would think Nokia would make all their phones compatible with BMW Bluetooth, one of them is getting binned & it hasn't got wheels.

Good looking phone with problems. It freezes, switches off by itself & while I was charging it with genuine Nokia charger. My battery blew up & melted my phone extensively. That's right folks, it's a dud phone which is hazardes & if you search the web, you'll find that the batteries are faulty.

Well it was a nice phone until I sat on it & broke the screen.

Bad points.
- Rubbish case. It's too flimsy & cheap & they crack easily. I had to by four within 4months.
- the shutter on the camera is too wobbly & in the end it dropped off.
- It's a brick & the screen scratches too easily.
- When you put MP3 video & picture files on it. It freezes more.
- What's the point in having a camera on the front hardly anyone does video calling. I have the phone for a year & I only used it once.
- the zoom is slow & sensitive.
- Its sensitive because even just accidently sitting on it brakes the screen.

Good points.
- You have lots of memory on it because it's got a memory card slot which is good.
- the camera is good & the zoom may be slow & sensitive but it's great.
- It can multitask & you can watch TV which has BBC1, 2 & 3, Nickelodeon, MTV, comedy & so on but you can only watch it if you're on three.
- It's got MSN so you can send messages without paying.
- the speaker is loud but tinny.

Overall it's not a bad phone.

I have had this phone for 18 months. I have had no major problems with the handset although the battery life majorly depreciates by age, mine only lasts for two days maximum. The sliding camera cover is very bad design flaw, you have to place it in your pocket otherwise it will turn on the camera. The camera quality is quite good & the editing functions are great. It supports 3rd party Java & Symbian software, if you find sites to download off then just transfer. I would recommend if you were just to buy a second hand one, as it is reliable & well built phone.

Today is a wonderful day. The replacement for my N70 has arrived. I have never contributed to a review site on anything in my life before so to overcome inertia to warn those who remain unaware of the perils & frustrations of owning a Nokia N70 about this former bain of my life is an occasion of note & indeed some celebration. Reading the other reviews of the N70, it seems the issue is one of inconsistency in production quality, there are those that swear by it & there are those, like me, who swear at it. As a mature business user, I seldom get angry with inanimate objects & tend to feel pity for those that do. However, my hate hate relationship with my N70 has changed all that.

I am truly ashamed at my rants & raves at Orange, by whom I have been otherwise served magnificently since 1995, but this piece of devil machinery with its continual crashing & booting, up & down (no wonder the battery drains so quickly) has left me pleading with, simpering at, threatening & remonstrating with Orange Customer Advisers like some demented maniac. How can a mobile phone generate such intense emotions? Quite simply, I was used to phones that were reliable & served my not overly demanding needs as a business user. Sure, other phones have gone downhill but that was with constant use over time. My previous phones were like battered but loved toys that held a place in my affections until the time came, sadly, for them to be replaced.

However, the N70 was different from the start. I am not particularly technically minded but the alarm bells should have started to ring (even if the phone didn't) when my initial concerns over reliability were addressed in somewhat patronising tones with the comments that I needed to go slowly, this is a sophisticated piece of equipment & if that happens, just take the battery out the back & restart it.

I cannot now believe that for the last 8 months or so, that's the point at which I simply gave up fighting, I was completely & meekly resigned to taking the battery out & putting it back again in the middle of some important business conversations, it just became a fact of life & I simply redialled my client. I knew I was not alone when I saw others in the street executing the same manoeuvre, Ah, there's another N70 owner, I would observe sympathetically, sometimes nodding understandingly towards them.

I have lived through the experience & am probably stronger for it. There is just one slightly bitter aftertaste in my mouth, & it is this, every time I called Orange to complain about the phone & was told that I could not change the model (a replacement was OK, but I didn't want one), the Adviser, & therefore Orange, must have known that they had a dud product on their hands. Sadly, not once did they treat our relationship as a professional one & just admit that the phone was a mistake. I would have understood, even sympathised then they could have changed the phone & I would have continued to feel valued by Orange. Whilst I am still with them, I am no longer sure that the relationship was as it once was. How can I be sure ever again, despite the marketing to the contrary, that they have my interests at heart? Maybe I am just naive.

Now let me tell you how good my new Sony Ericsson is. It has.

I got it for the 3G coverage, & it was under £100 at the Vodafone shop. This is my third 3G phone, & like many 3G & smartphones, it's a bit of a brick, the keys are a bit fiddly, & its battery life diminishes quite a bit if you spend time listening to the radio or the MP3.

But I am not too fussed about that. I love this phone, despite all of its imperfections. I am not using it as a mobile office, I just use it for calls, texts, alarm clock, calendar, calculator, currency converter, the occasional glimpse of the footy results & so on. It's got a huge screen & clear numbers on the keys, which is good for visually impaired people like myself.

The sound quality is excellent. Too many modern phones are designed to be a fashion icon that will cook your dinner for you & run your life in general - this phone sacrifices fashion & gimmicks for (shock horror!) allowing you to hear the person you're phoning & allowing them to hear you without any crackle & hiss.

Like many phones, it's fragile. I don't know why people complain about phones being fragile; they never were intended to be dropped or accidentally disposed of down the toilet bowl. So don't drop it. Simple.

Well worth the investment.

This phone was great, at first glance! But it turned out to be awful! I have had it repaired 3 times in 6 months either because, it wouldn't turn on, wouldn't hold it's charge for more than an hour, camera wouldn't work, told me I had a text message & then wouldn't let me read it for about 2 days! They then sent me a replacement phone, I had it for a week before it turned itself off & would not turn back on! The keys are small & difficult to use, the layout of the keypad is impractical, it's also really bulky, too big to fit in your pocket! The only good thing about it was the features, the camera was great when it worked & it looked smart & sophisticated, could be a great phone if it was more reliable! I now have a Nokia 7373 & it is a great phone! Hasn't broken at all yet & everything works perfectly!

Stumbled across this site while trying to find out why I can't change screensavers on my N70! After paying bucket loads to purchase them they save to the phone as PICS & not SCREENSAVERS. Meaning that when you try to select your brand new $5 screensaver it isn't even there, instead it has saved 'automatically' to your picture inbox. No option to switch where it saves to & worst of all, once it's saved it becomes a stalled JPEG i.e. normal picture!

I was in love with my first N70 until one day it stopped ringing! Seriously the calls came in, the screen lit up, I could visually see someone was calling BUT no SOUND? Frustrating when working for a demolition company, as I missed 99% of my incoming calls. Unless I was physically looking at my phone, I missed them.

So I made an insurance claim on that one & $70 later I have a new & poorer quality N70. This one has all of the problems mentioned in the other reviews & rubbish 'Eukatel' screensaver that cannot be removed! I have no idea what country my phone has come from but suffice to say that we don't have that carrier here in AUSTRALIA! I HATE this phone & I am never buying a Nokia again. Poor customer support & NO updated information on the website. HORRIBLE PHONE - just happens to look good. DON'T BE FOOLED.

- Look is average.
- Body highly prone to scratches.
- The lens cover is not sturdy, it cracked in the first week.
- Good camera but would have been better if it had threads to fit a manually focusable optical lens assembly.
- Good music player.
- Audio clarity on speaker phone is good.
- Availability of an option to plug in any ear plug in the hand free is a good feature.
- Videos can't be viewed on landscape mode unlike in Sony Ericsson's, a small disappointment.
- Easy menu operation.
- Not many software available to make the phone a fun gadget.
- Good graphical transition motion in menu navigation which probably is the reason for slowness of the phone.
- Is worth buying if the offer price for brand new box is at 10,000Rs.
- Finally it is a gadget worth being among the collection of BOYS TOYS.

I've had my N70 for like, a month now. I think it's great, only that I can't accept the fact that its battery drains so fast, I have to charge it like, every half a day, when to think I don't take pictures that much, or send text messages for that matter. The pictures are nice though & the videos taken are spontaneous, not like the ones you get from the 7610, which I previously had. I also love its music feedback, the sound is crisp & clear, not like my previous 7610.

My sister also owns an N70, the only difference is that hers is China made, while mine's Finland. Her phone has this screensaver that shows the features of the phone & she has been trying to turn that screensaver off but she can't. She's been complaining about it because it leads her to think she's just received a new text message or something because the light suddenly lights up when the screensaver plays. Good thing mine's Finland made, it hasn't got any of those screensavers. I would have gone out in a rage too had I had one of those! Although, she has got a free 128MB memory card (inbox), while I had 64MB. By the way, the only drawback is that, Nokia phones here in the Philippines tend to depreciate so fast! Last week I checked its price was P15, 000 & just now it's suddenly gone down to P13, 000, in just a week's time!

Changed from 'traditional' Nokia to this one & I must admit I hated it to start with. Now I've got used to the features & operating system I think its spot on & don't want to change it.

I've put TomTom on with a Bluetooth gps receiver & it works really well. Occasionally have a problem with Bluetooth disconnecting but nothing I can't put up with.

I have a Bluetooth hands-free kit which connects at the same time as the GPS receiver so get nav directions over the speakers.

The camera is really good in daylight but in poor visibility the flash leaves a lot to be desired.

It's got everything I need in a small (ish) neat bundle, good phone, decent camera & so handy to have GPS.

I've just upgraded my tariff & I think I'll give the new phone to someone else in the family.

After having 3 of these I can say that they are pretty bad. My one that's sitting at home now not being used (thankfully got an upgrade) crashes approx. 18 times an hour. The battery doesn't last a day & it's just generally slow! Sure it's got some good spec & it is a high tech phone, but what's the point if you can't use it? Everyone I know that has this phone has had problems with it : (

This is a solid well put together phone. Unlike the N73 I upgraded to. In fact I have sent my N73 back & have stuck with the N70.

To get the best from this phone make sure you have the latest firm wear update from Nokia's website. You can then install it via the USB cable. Be warned though you WILL lose all items & contacts saved to the phone so back them up to PC Suite or the memory card.

My only problem with this phone is the camera slider cover. The spring is too weak which means it slides open when you put it in your pocket.

Speed wise I'd say it is average. If you want a fast loading phone then you need to buy a high end Smartphone.

I have had this phone for nearly 18 months & have had no problems with it.

This phone is annoying. Everything on it ages to open. Unless increased memory is poor. It randomly turns itself on & off. I sent the first one back on the second day of having it because the screen was just staying white. The second one some button stopped working. By now I have given up sending it back because I know have to pay the excess & it seems point less when all ill get back is an equally rubbish one. It currently decides what buttons it wants to work when. If the camera will come on.

Until the mileage piles on to it. The last 4 months have been painfully frustrating with this phone. I've already had it replaced once & now the camera slide squeaks, it is very slow, it freezes, switches itself off & loses signal in a place where I have had plenty of signal before.

Luckily my new phone is arriving this week & I no longer have to keep on getting myself frustrated with the bad points of this phone. & there are many!

Having read reviews on this model prior to buying it, I didn't believe it could be as bad as I'd read. I was wrong. It's perhaps the most irritating phone I've ever had! DO NOT BUY IT!

I am not a phone boffin but I know what I want - simple stuff as well as the flashy gadgets; which is perhaps why I always go for Nokia these days. Surprisingly it doesn't do the most simple of things such as automatic key guard lock or repeat alarm clock (I have to use my previous Nokia every morning! ). Why do Nokia make improvements with the wizardry but only by sacrificing the basics? !

This is not a good phone for anyone with clumsy fingers as the buttons are extremely close together & is it seems to take ages to do anything. Even the menu button is seriously slow. This phone holds a vast number of text messages, which is fab however, even clearing your inbox periodically does not speed up this thing!

It has often frozen & switched itself off & seems to stick on the Nokia generic theme tune even when you have 'personalised your profile' (which is extremely embarrassing in public! ). Having been recommended this model by Orange as my free upgrade, I have complained a number of times to be told that after 10 yrs with them; I am now stuck with this disfunctional piece of rubbish for another year. I am waiting for Orange Customer Service's Supervisor to call me back now (the poor guy who answered the phone to me, doesn't deserve the abuse (albeit politely put! ) I am keen to dish out! ). YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - choose another model!

Frankly I am very disappointed that a company like Nokia could produce such a sub-standard product, this model is a dud - the software is awful & no user-ability thought went into it. Many functions simply just don't work.

10 good reasons why you shouldn't buy this phone

1. It's a marketing gimmick developed by marketers not technicians, too much effort went into the multimedia tools & not enough into the basic functionality

2. No minijack socket, so you're forced to use their earphone piece, which keeps falling out of your ears & has a bad design that helps it get tangled

3. MP3 player recognises only MP3 format, meaning all music copied via your windows media player needs converting, during which time the song details are lost making the filing of music on the phone a nightmare, in the end I had to laborious task of making up playlists to re-build whole albums

4. Music player gets interrupted by incoming calls but doesn't restart when you hang up, you have to navigate back into music menu & restart, even if you go to the trouble of always putting it into 'play in background' mode, allowing you to use other functions on the phone, you still have to restart the song after a call. This means pulling the phone out of your pocket.

5. Processing speed is archaic, not sure why but moving from one function to another takes a half second pause, really irritating & slow compared to earlier Nokias

6. Navigation really isn't user-friendly or intuitive, often needing 3 or 4 clicks to reach simple functions like sending a message - I've used Microsoft programs which are less frustrating!

7. Every time you open the music function you have to wait, sometimes for up to 10 seconds, while it is 'processing'.

8. Uploading data (MP3s) takes forever, even by cable, about 5 times slower than a regular hand drive MP3 player, besides plugging in isn't seamless & sometimes you need to turn the phone off an on, before they talk to each other.

9. The synchronisation of contacts with outlook express is so thorough that in doing so it injects hundreds of duplicate contacts into your OE address book. I had to go through the whole list & manually delete them!

10. To compound my annoyance with the heavy handed promotion of its multi-media capabilities the thing periodically runs an advert for its camera etc.

Had the phone for over a year now, has had its ups & downs. Poor battery life which is standard on most phones these days right? Good signal but can knock off so to speak for no reason even though I had a signal & didn't move. Orange tool bar was a poor effort from Orange but had this removed during a software update from carphonewarehouse. Read someone mention about the ringing tones change for no reason, this can be corrected by altering the log time to 1 week. Had recent problem with the screen but this was down to the battery, so new battery & the phone is as good as new. Getting the k800i 2moro so I hope it lives up to its reviews as I have bought it on that basis. N70 isn't a bad phone once you get passed the small things.

Sliding back panel slides too easily & activates the camera wasting battery life. I've had this phone for nearly a year now & I've been offered a 6233 as an upgrade. To be honest I'm really looking forward to moving on.

Every single problem mentioned on this page I have had. Sliding camera cover annoying, big but poor quality pictures, self changing ring tones, intermittent charging facility (I can now only charge my phone with an old Nokia charger & an adapter plugged in- even though I've been through two chargers with normal use), it is mind numbingly slow & it crashes all of the time for no apparent reason.

I honestly don't even chuck it about, it has had a fairly easy life!

It was the first phone I had with a radio which I love, the email setup (I am on Orange) was simple & I love being able to access my emails on my mobile, it is such a help, I've hardly used the music facilities but they've been pretty good, but by far & away the most impressed I've been is when I've plugged it into my laptop & logged onto the Internet. It isn't super speedy (but neither is my laptop) but it is perfectly adequate & has helped me meet many a midnight deadline without an ordinary Internet connection available.

Don't buy this phone anymore, there must be newer ones out there with fewer bugs, unless you get it for a song. I am looking forward to my new Nokia & it's completely different operating system, but my goodness the N70 was like a god compared to the old Sony Ericsson I had.

I find this phone extremely good. After having a Sony Ericsson v800, which was useless & was only made for testing the new Vodafone Video Call, 3G network in Ireland. The camera is absolutely fantastic! I downloaded Google Maps & its great. If you are using the browser it can be a bit slow on a normal GSM network, but luckily, Ireland has loads of 3G coverage. Menus can be a bit slow but you get used to it. It looks great, as ye have already established & is a great phone to use. I feel the Settings Menu is sort of hidden away from the main menu & is sometimes hard to find. I use it every day on video calls, video conferences, normal calls, texts, adding contacts & have had no problems. My rating out of 10: 9/10/10

I haven't got this phone personally but my mum has it. And she has had a few problems with it. Making funny noises when a certain person rings but not with every person if you get with what I mean. But apart from the little tiny problem it has been an all round great phone. At the moment I have a Samsung D600 & it is a great phone but you can't do much on it. I'm getting a new phone soon I maybe get a Sony Ericsson W900i I was going to get a Nokia 6280 but after reading all the reviews on this phone I don't think SO!! It sounds like it is more trouble than it is worth!! And I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!! My auntie has this phone & I don't think she has had problems with it.

We have recently upgraded from Nokia 7330's to the N70. Near the end of our old 18 month contract the old Nokias started having faults on the software, saying a headset was plugged in when it clearly wasn't. The only way you could make calls was to plug the headset in. This was an inconvenience & then the phones died with a month to go on the contract.

I have now had the N70 a week & already we are having the same problem. I cannot make or receive calls without plugging the head set in. It is gutting as it's a gorgeous looking phone & the camera is excellent. The trouble is I primarily need to us this as, yep, a PHONE, which is useless.

I like many other people have been a Nokia user for years, the last phone dying after over a year was a pain but at least it lasted a year, a week old N70 shouldn't have these problems but it does.

I would say it looks great but KEEP AWAY.

We are now getting a RAZR for the wife & I am getting a K800i. Don't be tempted by the looks, you will have problems, if not now it will be later when it's too late to get a free replacement. Sorry Nokia, but you're letting us DOWN.

Well I had two Nokia N70 handsets & both went away as faulty as I couldn't send multimedia messages & my anti virus corrupted. But let me help here, when you install the timer & date, make sure it's correct or it will screw up the anti virus. If the anti virus firewall is selected to medium or high it will stop you sending or receiving picture messages. But apart from that with the calendar, sync, radio, pictures its great. The only real downside is it runs way to slow at times.

Nokia is going down the hill again. Where are those Nokia 6310 6230's & all those great phones which made life so easy. Nokia N70, the latest & the first SMART PHONE. I used it for a week & then go rid of it. It looks good, it sounds good the features are awesome. All that you can dream about is here. A perfect business phone. It's got 3g, supports 3rd party applications & software like MS OFFICE, ADOBE etc. mp3s, expandable memory, very good camera & sound quality. In theory it looks perfect. The only thing is the SPEED. The phone is dead slow, got a tendency of getting stuck, & re-booting by it's self. It is heavy, & bulky, as compared to other competitors in the market like Sony Eric. & Samsung. N70 was a big disappointment, I've been a Nokia fan, since I remember. Have always used Nokia, but recently went to Samsung d500.

In total, if you are more concerned about the looks & design & the (paper based) functions go for it.

On Paper this is a great phone, it's like having a miniature laptop, however I'm now on my second N70. The first one kept freezing up, which I had replaced within the first 9 days. The second has been sent away for repair two weeks ago due to having faulty software on it. I had an unaccessible gallery & corrupted anti-virus programmes. There's also a problem with the 3G which is unusable in the Burnley area, but that's a fault with the Mobile network (apparently). However don't let this detract you as I'm sure once it's fixed it'll be ace!

Nokia N70 is a much better phone than the Samsung D600, I have tried both phones & the Nokia knocks spots off of the Samsung. The camera & video is outstanding. Good messaging. FM radio & visual radio are v good. Quick transferring & v good connectivity. Great phone all in all.

I am Nokia's biggest fan & the N70 is the best phone ever. The 2 mega pixel camera with zoom & flash is fabulous. I have enjoyed the messaging. Used the blog site which was all new to me & good fun. The video calling is good when you understand what to do. Bluetooth is a god send & I would not get a phone without it, total freedom from wires & such an easy way to connect. Best phone ever.
