I have had this phone for 18 months, & in that time I have had 3 new handsets, about to be a 4th & the phone has been in for repairs 7 or 8 times. Near as I can figure, the phone has been with Nokia for 3 months in that time.
Faults.
- Spontaneous shutdown when the phone is just sitting on my desk.
- Spontaneous disconnect on opening the slider to answer a call.
- Losing the network, necessitating a reboot (which frequently did not work).
- A loud speaker whine when the keypad back lighting was on.
- Keypad losing click detent on some keys after 1 day.
- Losing sight of my sim card where the phone has to be rebooted by removing the battery & the sim, & then reassembling - & that did not always work.
Just dreadful & VERY bad for business.

This is a feature packed phone with appalling performance. I had mine for well over a year & had no end of problems.
- Crashed frequently when dialling out.
- Randomly reset.
- Terrible battery performance (Generally less than 1 day).
- Not possible to update firmware.
- Repaired 3 times & issues not resolved.
- Awful reception (on '3' network).
- Once reception is lost the only way to re-connect to the network is to reboot the phone, which takes forever.
- Tiny fonts.
- Useless camera, slow shutter, no flash, generally poor quality photos.
All I can say is mine was run over once & still worked afterwards! Now have an E71 & it's fantastic.

Like many others, thought the phone was great AT the START, then the switching off kicked in. & the jamming up. Sick of taking out the battery to restart the damn thing, have lost confidence in Nokia, have always stuck with Nokia, not so sure any more.

Unreliable, switches itself off on a regular basis. Only way to switch on again is to take battery out & put back in again. Battery, SIM card, & phone have all been replaced to no avail. Currently trying to replace with alternative phone, don't buy this phone.

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with the E65. The battery life that some have complained about has not been too terrible, although I have noticed that sometimes, all of a sudden, the battery drains very quickly (searching for a network maybe? ).
It took me a while to get used to it, but now that I have, we work pretty well together. I do wish the SMS text were a little bit larger. It's EXTREMELY difficult to see accented letters (I type a lot in French, Spanish & Thai).
I must also mention something I read about in another review: it's very true that for some reason this phone really seems to like to grab on to beard stubble. I am glad to read that it's not just me who experiences this!
The Internet navigator is pretty good. I like that I can change alphabets easily in an SMS (Writing Language), which is very useful when I send messages in Thai. The screen size is good. The shortcut buttons work well for me. I also really like the icons on the main screen; other phones I have used require you to go into menu to be able to do anything. With the E65, everything I need is either on the main screen or on a shortcut button.
I know some people really don't like this phone, but I get along pretty well with it. In fact, I am due to get a new phone this year when I prolong my contract which I intend to use when I travel, & I've been thinking about getting another E65 simply because I've gotten very used to it, & it works well. Having said that, & having done a little research, I will probably try the E66 instead, but really, don't be too hard on the E65. I've tried many other phones, & this one has to be the least annoying, if not most pleasant, phone I've ever used.

I would say that the E65 is a good phone IN the BEGINNING, but it seems to me all the problems comes out of the woodwork after a year. My phone has got the latest software on it & if you switch it on it doesn't want to go anywhere & there is no network connection. It doesn't even ask you for your password it goes directly to your key lock & I am really getting tired of this problem now.
I would say do your homework very carefully before buying an E65.

I wish I had read the reviews of this phone before getting one. To be honest I didn't get chance though as Vodafone gave me this handset as a replacement for my previous Nokia which packed up & they didn't have another in stock.
For a start I didn't like the looks, brown leather effect, very middle aged man I thought & disappointing after my girly swirly pink of choice. The chrome front is quite nice though with a large screen. No place to hang a phone charm either & only 2 choices of theme, boring or boring, again very middle aged bloke. No games included at all.
But all this was as nothing compared with the most annoying aspect of all. Yes, you guessed it, my handset keeps switching itself off. About 50% of times when I pick up a call the phone switches itself off. Bloody annoying & expensive too as I keep having to phone or text people back.
I have put up with this phone for over 12 months & now Vodafone are giving me a new handset free of charge. Deliberately I have gone for a different make as I have totally lost confidence in Nokia.
It's an LG Viewty in pink, let's hope for more luck this time!

I am with the 3 network & this phone did tick a lot of boxes for the features I could use with this network (free MSN messenger, Skype etc). I have had it for a year now & I really, really hate it! After reading some of the reviews, it seems I am with the majority.
I have two major problems with it.
- the battery life is extremely poor! It will last maximum 2 days! Plus I don't even make that many calls. Official standby time, approx 11 days! Horse rubbish! I have not tried it with the 3G continuously logged on but I wouldn't like to think. This is compared to my old Sony Ericsson W800i where it was last about 6 days, unless I make a lot of calls then it is about 4 days.
- Sometimes it won't let me read text messages sent to me or it will take several minutes to load up (which when you're looking at the screen does seem like forever). I think it's what other people say it freezes but for me, I can still press the end call key to go back to standby mode.
I do have other minor issues.
- It's slow to load up the menu.
- the short cut keys (e.g. Phonebook & own key, who actually uses the other two? or uses it to the point you need it as a short cut key? )
- the light on the short cut keys doesn't light up. Not useful in the dark.
So my advice for prospective buyers, DON'T BUY THIS rubbish PHONE! IT WILL BE the BANE OF YOUR LIFE!

Does anyone else have this problem? When I let my stubble grow, the phone catches the hairs on my face & tries to rip them out. It's very sore & very annoying. Have the phone about 6 months & it's easily the worst performing phone I've ever had. Very poor reception & callers complain my voice sounds muffled. This is the 10th Nokia phone I've had & have now lost confidence in this manufacturer to produce reliable quality class leading phones.

I have had an E65 for almost 2 years, I have no problems with it switching on & off on its own. When I first got it I thought the battery life was short compared to my previous phones. I also have a HTC Touch Diamond (was my upgrade this year), well if you want to see short battery life get one of these. I spend most of the day with Bluetooth on in the car, the HTC will last almost a day where the e65 will last almost two days.
My HTC only comes out when I go out for an evening (that's about all the battery lasts with confidence).
I have lost count how many times I have dropped my E65 & it is still going strong, does on times lock up when used with my parot 3200 Bluetooth & did with my previous parot too.
As people want more features crammed into a phone you must expect technical problems. Don't tell me you don't get problems with your PC.
Good looking, solid & reliable phone.

First impression was really good with this phone, being my first ever Nokia (owned 6 other brands up to now). However, within 2 days of use I also had the same freezing, lock up & having to reboot & switch off & on rubbish as almost everybody else has reported.
This phone just loves to switch itself off when somebody calls. Sometimes it also loves to call the last caller, all by itself, whilst sitting in your pocket if the key lock is off.
If you get one of these that doesn't do that, then consider yourself very lucky. When it does work, it has some neat features to discover. But otherwise you will feel like exchanging it for anything else, even a banana would do a better job!

What can I say? I have been using Nokia mobile phones continuously for over 9 years now & the E65 is without doubt the worst mobile phone that I have ever used.
The phone looks great, it is packed with great applications & gizmos but everything else is atrocious.
Problem no 1, when I open the slider the speaker makes a loud buzzing noise, it reminds of the noise that the speaker system on an airplane makes just before the cabin crew are about to make an announcement.
Problem no 2, the telephone randomly dials numbers on occasions, sometimes when I am on calls & sometimes when the phone is just sitting on the desk with nobody nearby
Problem no 3, the phone switches on the voice recording by itself, you cancel the application & the phone immediately switches is back on again, the only way that I can solve this problem is to repeatedly bang the side of the phone off of a hard object.
Problem no 4, the phone keeps switching on the calculator in a similar fashion to the way it switches on the voice recorder.
Problem no 5, phantom battery charging, the phone shows that the battery is charging even though it is not plugged into any charger. Then it starts alternating messages from Battery fully charged to Battery charging. The only way to end this cycle is to switch the phone off & back on again.
Problem no 6, battery life is poor! On a busy day I will often have to recharge the phone at 3:00pm, during the week I always have to charge the battery overnight or the phone will be dead by 10:00 the next morning.
I could go on & on but you probably get the message that I am pretty fed up with this phone. Bring back the 6310i, that's what I say.

Had this phone since January 2008, & generally been a good phone, until recently.
Phone resets itself from time to time & had a major issue with screen. Two weeks ago screen went dead & sent it back to Vodafone to repair. Was told I'd damaged it & so not under warranty. Spoke to Vodafone & they said as long as it's not water damaged (which it isn't), or in a number of pieces (which it isn't) then covered by warranty.
Waiting for Vodafone to send a package to collect phone, then we shall see. I am thinking of Blackberry for next handset as I do use organiser a lot.

Had this phone for 9 months before faults developed, dying at random even with full battery etc. Had phone repaired by very unhelpful staff at 3 twice, alleged software upgrade required (the fault was actually with the battery contacts, they are not good enough, but what do I know? ). Phone lasted 2 weeks before fault occurred again, it would just turn itself off & not turn back on again. Shame really because liked the style of the phone, some of the functions rubbish though, had Nokia before the old 3310 with no faults. Eventually as 3 were not interested in helping me out with a phone that could let me down at any time, legal action was taken. Needless to say within a very short time their legal dept & myself reached an out of court settlement with a totally new phone, a Sony Ericsson z750i, brilliant phone!

I bought this on the assumption that I had had Nokia slider phones before & had no problems with them, plus I liked the design & it looked smaller & sleeker than my previous Nokia 6280. My network is Orange. I've had it now over a year & it's got to be one of the worst phones I have ever owned & I cannot wait to change it.
Pros.
- It looks nice.
- I like the retro ring ring tone.
- Screen is crisp & clear.
Cons.
- It freezes randomly.
- If you open the slider too quickly to answer a call, it turns itself off. A pain when you are trying to make an urgent or quick call.
- When you close slider too quickly the same applies as point 2.
- Trying to find the most simple of things on this phone makes your brain hurt. Yes you can re-arrange folders but it's nowhere near as intuitive as previous Nokia menus. Options are just not where you expect them to be.
- the network reception on this phone is absolutely dreadful. I don't live in a hilly area but the signal goes from 5 bars to nothing in seconds, even walking around my own house. My friends have Orange phones too in the same area & theirs work fine.
- Trying to use my hands-free Bluetooth headset is a joke as the quality is rubbish. I'd read somewhere if phones have a lot of metal on them, it affects reception? Any truth in this as the E65 is metallic. Surely Nokia must have known this if so! Also, my voice recognition has just stopped working & all I get each time is 'no match found' to each request. It did work once, but is now kaput which kind of defeats the purpose of hands-free dialling.
- Whether its Orange or this handset, but I recently went to Greece & although it was set to auto find another network, I could not connect onto any Network in Greece at all. At first I thought it was Orange but I found out on the plane on the way home that the couple next to me had Orange phones (not E65's but Nokia's) & theirs had worked fine all holiday & found a suitable network no problem on arrival.
- When I receive a voicemail message, I get the notification message on the Active desktop & when I listen to the message, the notification goes away. However if I turn the phone off & on again, the New voice messages line 1 notification appears again on the front screen, but no messages are actually there. The only way to get rid of this is to actually receive another voicemail & delete the message. It's very annoying.
- Some of the tools are quite confusing I.e. The Currency converter (as it's a business phone), there's no games & no radio option.
- It takes an age to turn on & boot up.

I took this mobile on an 18 month contract with 02. It's how been 12 months & I have had to change 3 times. Some of the faults I have had with the E65 are.
- Keeps on freezing.
- Drops reception & calls.
- Turns off when putting the slider down.
- Low battery life.
Having spoken to CS I was told that I was now allowed to take another new handset.I had to take the phone into the store & explained this but they refused & said it will need to be sent off for repair & can take up to 28 days. I was offered a very basic temporary phone for which I had to pay a £25 deposit for. They offered me Nokia 1100 which I refused. I had a call from the store today saying that the phone has been repaired & that they will NOT give me a new handset or a different model as I am not happy with this one. I have argued my case & each person tells me something different, I am passed pillar to post & no one wants to take the responsibility.
It's really wierd how they say it's up to the store to decide what they want to do, are the stores not part of 02? If thats the case then they should have a instore CS desk. I am really losing my rag with 02 & I still have 6 months left on my contract with the same Nokia E65. Argghhhhh!

PLEASE READ the FOLLOWING.
Having purchased an E65 a year ago as a business phone in Australia I found the battery life when using 3G & activesync to be around 2 to 3 hours without making a single call. Further to the disappointment of purchasing a 3G business phone (for email & high speed Internet access on the road), it was a rude awakening when visiting the Nokia care (less) centre. I was made to wait near to an hour to retrieve my phone each time, & the problem was never fixed. In fact only on the phone's 4th visit did they declare there was a problem, they then insisted the phone was out of warranty & not their problem any longer. Having waited weeks for unreturned phone calls & the Nokia care centre nearly throwing my phone in the bin, I contacted Virgin Mobile, my carrier to discuss my disappointment, they immediately picked up the issue by replacing the battery at their own expense & taking the matter up with Nokia directly, bravo! Bottom line is not because of their product, but because of their complete disregard for customer service I will never purchase another Nokia again, shame on you Nokia for pushing around the little guy. PS I will remain with Virgin Mobile for as long as they maintain this level of service. Thanks for reading.

I have had this phone for 1 year & I can't really complain that this phone is rubbish. It has some minuses (no radio, starts & off a bit slow, no flash on camera, photo quality not too good, battery life a bit short), but for me it's alright. I dropped it like 100 times, once it fell to the fountain, but it still works & works fine. What you people expect from the phone, you can call, text, check emails, browse the web. At the end of the day you come back home charge it & you can use it another day. In my opinion this phone is good.

I have had E65 for couple of months now & had no problems with it. I am a fairly heavy user & I use it to listen to music while I travel too. With a headset designed for 6230i, my E65 gives me about straight 6 hours of music (& good quality too) & still get some battery left in it!
It's not a phone meant for multimedia purposes. Therefore one should not really complain about the music through speaker. Email is a good feature. Also I have tried WLAN which actually works!
I've had no problem with E65. It would have been great if there was a radio integrated & a flash for the camera.
All in all it's a solid feel phone & quite handy to have in hand.

A great phone, with good battery life, good web browsing on 3G & better on Wi-Fi. Just added Nokia's beta push email & it rocks, but battery life suffers (less than 1 day down from 2days with frequent use normally).
Camera is not great & video really poor (compared to my 3120) which is a disappointment. A good phone with all the right features but looking for something that mixes smart with entertainment better.

I had a Nokia 9300 before I upgraded, the reason I left it was because it was a slow phone (very), still had my trust in Nokia & went for an E65 what a big mistake, the phone is so slow, battery life is bad, it always asks a question when you close the phone, (you have to buy a proper key lock application from Nokia, I don't understand why they didn't include this).
The camera on the phone takes the most terrible pictures that are mostly green. I really do regret trusting Nokia, I have always been a loyal Nokia customer but I think they are forgetting what's important. Learn to walk before you run Nokia. You're losing loyal customers.
My next upgrade I am going maybe Sony, have heard a lot of good things.

Firstly I should say that I have been a Nokia phone repair technician for 5 years.
Generally I avoid phones with moving parts such as flip phones since they generally up as an expensive hinge repair. However the E65 slide mechanism seems relatively rugged & I've promised myself I'll be gentle. I am using a jewel case to protect the screen which makes some of the keys a little difficult for my (admittedly fat) fingers to access.
Feature wise it's got everything under the sun, most of which I don't use. It's got good customisation features, although some of the options are hidden away in the menu trees. These I use a lot.
Battery life was poor at first, but this was expected. Proper battery maturation & a tweaking of settings & I now get 3 to 4 days between recharge which is about standard for most phones. I should point out I prefer text to live calls so that doesn't include many phone calls. In general 3G will use more power (multiple towers, more signal processing etc) & the decent sized screen is a huge power hog. Changing backlight preferences is a quick way to improve battery life.
This is my first phone with the S60 operating system & I am having a lot of fun. I bought a bt335 GPS logger & have it fully integrated into the E65 with Nokia maps & Nokia sports tracker. I go hiking a bit so it's a nice safely feature, always being able to find my way home, & it's nice to plot up onto Google earth when I get home.
The software is a little restrictive. Newer S60 models use newer firmware which makes the newer platforms more flexible than the E65. I haven't run into anything I can't do yet except Skype through the Bluetooth into my laptop's Internet connection.
In summary? It's nice to look at, feels nice, is fairly solid, has lots of pretty features. The software can be a little restrictive if you're a geek like me but it won't worry most people. Battery life can be an issue if you're a heavy phone user but that will be true of all the big screen 3G phones. & I don't see many in for repair, which is good because they're a pain in the proverbial to fix.
Hope this helps.

Had this phone for 11 months now on three contract. I have had no problems. It's packed with features & I have installed opera 4 mini for mobile web browsing & it copes very well.
I can get email but I get that much spam I don't bother. The mobile TV is cool too. The only problem I had was the rubber coating started to peel after a 5 months, but all I did was peeling it off to reveal a shiny black surface which IMO looks better.
This phone goes everywhere with me & it has taken a few drops & dings & still looks & works great.

Replaced a Sony mobile with this one 10 months ago. Can't wait until July! Not sure what experiences other people have had but my phone crashes all the time. If you lock it, put it in your pocket & it slides open a couple of millimeters the lock is off. I have often found myself calling people unaware.
I have had Nokia's in the past & found them to be great phones but this is the worst I've had.

The Nokia E65 has been a alright phone for me apart from the life span of it. The only MAJOR problem I have had is that from yesterday the phone has being acting up example I press 0 & I get 3.
I press 3 I get 3 & when I text I press spacebar which is 0 & it brings up a saying do I want to change the predictive text & it puts a d into so & well I go to clear the d it sends the text just like that & no I have not played with any settings, I have not downloaded anything for it, I have not placed it in or near water. If anyone knows anything about this problem then please let me know.

I bought this phone in December 2007 & till now (May 2008), I have had it in my possession for a total of 2 weeks (out of the 5 months). The rest of the time it has been in the repair shop! My main problem is related with battery performance.
The sequence of problems & repairs is as follows.
- 1st repair, full drainage of battery in under 8 hours (standby), with 1 hour talk time. Was told that there was no problem with the phone & that it was a configuration issue I.e. The fact that I had it on 3G caused the problem!
- 2nd repair, full drainage of battery in under 8 hours (standby), with half an hour talk time. The phone was replaced.
- 3rd (pending repair), full drainage of battery in under 8 hours (standby), with 0 hours talk time & no SIM card inserted.
As you can see, the trend is downwards. I should probably consider investing in a nuclear power station. It's a shame though as the phone & its features are great, but the performance & reliability thereof are terrible.

I have had this phone for two days, only half of the screen showing when in camera mode. Dealer tried for 30 minutes to fix. No more available in NSW, awaiting call from dealer to advise. (I am not holding my breath).
I sent 4 SMS messages only to be told they did not arrive. What a set of Drongo's. Wish I had stayed with my old LG. In fact it will be on eBay by the weekend.

Great phone & great features. Easy to use once you know how to navigate around all the stuff. Only problem seems to be that mine is way too clever! I use mine for business & thus need it 'on' all the time. It knows better & keeps switching itself off & on & has breaks in between, had this problem 3 months ago & stopped so I thought it was just a glitch. Today, however, it was on, off, paused & doing what it wanted all over the place. Open the slide to make a call & it automatically goes to switch off, then does so by itself. Type PIN number, I do that & it switches on then pauses then off then on then. You get the picture. It came close to the big throw across the road. Got a message, vibration & checked then it then turned off. Turned it back on & it turned off & so on. I use mine for emails & Internet etc & never a real problem. Except for the intuitive on & off thing it seems to know & learn. Perhaps it is cleverly screening my calls & messages. Off to the repair shop we go!

I haven't had any of the problems with the E65 that seem to be on here, it's not once turned off for me, I don't have any earpiece problems, although my boyfriends 6200 has that, only using speakerphone etc. But the problem I have with my E65 no one seems to have complained about. My phone book doesn't work most of the time. I can make maybe 2 phone calls, & then I go to last dialled, phonebook & nothing. The screen clears as soon as I try making the call, however typing the numbers in works fine. So as long as you memorise your phone numbers & have no need for a phone book, this is a good phone. Does go incredibly slowly in turning it on & off (about 5 minutes I waited for both the other day) & after sending a text message the phone is unusable for about 30 seconds to a minute but that's OK.

Worst phone ever.
I signed up to an Optus contract in September with a Nokia E65. I then had to have the handset replaced within 2 weeks because it kept turning itself off. Then within 3 weeks I had to have the new handset replaced, then again within 10 days on yet another handset.
The fourth handset actually lasted over 8 weeks, now it's been back for repair 3 times (because its outside immediate replacement period) & every time that the engineers send it back fixed it turns off terminally within 24 hours.
My solicitor is now discussing this matter with Optus. I would advise everyone to steer well clear of this product.

I was relieved to read that so many other people have had the same problems with their E65s! Considering this is an up-to-date phone, you'd be hard pressed to find anything more frustrating, turgid & pointless.
Four weeks ago, I upgraded (ha! ) from a flip phone that had started to switch itself off, which was most annoying. The E65 was going to be the cure to all my problems, & had many, many useful functions to make my life easier. Within a couple of days it started to shut itself down when it felt like it. I got fed up with it & contacted Vodafone on the landline, obviously! (Ever tried speaking to Vodafone? I recommend Valium before you do). When I finally got through to a real person, the speed at which they offered to replace it spoke volumes to me.
They were good to their word, & my phone was collected & replaced the following morning (the driver said that I would be amazed at how many E65s he's collected & replaced! ), Things were then OK for a few days. Today wasn't too bad, in that, it only switched itself off 3 times (yesterday it was 5 times)
I have emailed Vodafone, but, as yet, I've heard nothing back. I'd go into the Vodafone store, but that's SUCH a soul destroying experience, I am not sure I can manage it again.
In short, Nokia have made a real lemon with this phone. There's obviously a (very! Small batch that are OK, hence the positive reviews. I am going to get rid of mine as fast as I can because it's rubbish.

Read a few bad reviews for this phone, but can't understand why.
The phone syncs well with Microsoft Outlook, so I can keep up-to-date with appointments etc. The music player is one of the clearest I have heard from a mobile phone, but you must save tracks in MP3 format otherwise they do not play. Display is nice & clear. Battery life for me is a good few days & I use the handset to make calls, play music, & play games that I have downloaded, so not sure why people are complaining. I did initially charge it for about 16 hours when I first got it to condition the battery, even though I knew it would work straight out of the box.
Overall a very good phone, everything you could need from a phone. For me restores a lot of creditability for Nokia.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH ALL the NEGATIVE VIEWS APPEARING HERE!
I purchased a Nokia E65 in May 2007. By November 2007, I was unable to make or receive calls! Also, the keypad refused to light up after about 5 months. I took it to my local Nokia repair point, & on Friday I picked it up after being without it for 5 weeks. I was assured it worked. However, on trying it out yesterday (Saturday), the keypad lights up, but I still cannot hear callers on the earpiece, only on the loudspeaker, & that doesn't make for very private conversations! I have always like Nokia phones, but I am now losing my faith in anything Nokia!
I am taking it back tomorrow (Monday) & demanding my money back. Watch this space!

Wish I had read the other reviews before getting the e65. Phone looks good & has lots of features, but they rarely work properly. Battery life is the worst I've ever had. I have to charge this phone every day or after 20 minutes of calling. The menu system is clunky & the phone is bug ridden, it has bad habit of resetting itself. I can't wait to get rid of it. Previously I had the Sony Ericsson Z610i which was a great phone. I would gladly change the e65 for the 2 year old Sony.

I have had this mobile phone for about a week. I upgraded the firmware & this thing is absolutely stable. I think a faster processor would be nice to run third party applications, but I can live with it. For people having stability & reset issues, maybe you should try a hard reset to get rid of all the bad stuff. There are many pages that mention how to do this & make sure that you only install certified applications.

In my 19 odd years of owning & using mobile phones, this has to be the single most bug ridden, problematic handset I have ever encountered & had the displeasure to own. But don't get me wrong, it's not all bad. When it's actually working, it's a great phone but I do feel that Nokia have lost their edge in the western phone market over the past few years. Why does no one in Japan use a Nokia, because they're unreliable as hell & chocked full of old, second rate software technology.
I have a four year old Japanese phone made by sharp that does everything this phone does & more. Not to mention faster & more reliably. It boots instantaneously, there is no menu lag & the email functionality fantastic. Unfortunately use it in Japan. I have a newer Japanese phone that's even better.
Anyway, I've had a string of problems with the E65 ranging from erratic email behaviour to the phone randomly switching off. A number of actions appear to cause this to happen the most obvious of which are an incoming caller ending the call as the slide is closed, closing the slide before a messaging application has quit & the web browser quitting for no apparent reason. The keypad backlight goes out whilst writing SMS. Shortly after this, it shuts down or more to the point, just plain switches off. The battery life is exceptionally poor on WCDMA networks. There is an exceptional amount of lag in most every application, even when doing the most basic of things like opening the main menu & the list goes on & on.
It's back to the shop tomorrow to swap it for the second time. I would strongly advise anyone against buying this phone unless you absolutely need the Wi-Fi functionality & are extremely patient with technology that is supposed to save you time & make managing certain aspects of your life easier.

This is a great phone, unlike the other reviews I've read, my E65 works fine. The Wi-Fi is good, the battery lasts for at least 3 days, the phone doesn't lag at all, (at least not mine). The start up is quite fast too (compared to my old Nokia 6600, the E65 is like a bullet train). Although It works fine, I have to admit that the font is a little to small & asking if I would want to lock my phone every time I slide it to close is also pretty annoying. I just switched from Motorola v3 in pink & I think it was a great switch. The E65 is much better than the v3. The camera for the E65 is also pretty good. But I still think not having the front camera for video conferencing is off putting. Overall, it is a totally usable, totally functional phone. & it is also pretty fast considering the amount of things it can do.

It is nice & slim, looks great, (Black is the best colour). Wi Fi is awesome BUT! THIS PHONE HAS TOO MANY ISUES! & Nokia JUST BRUSH IT OFF.
I am currently on my fourth Nokia e65, & am VERY frustrated. The first week I had it, I noticed it was freezing, & shutting down unexpectedly. After 3 Australia (My Service Provider) swapped it. Low & behold the Mobile was damaged straight out of the box! My next Nokia sent me back to 3 within a week because it was poorly constructed. By know I was quite angry with Nokia but my new phone was fine, until July.
By July the mobile had the odd, shutdown or restart, but from then on my phone was playing up way too much. After a free (Thanks to warranty) repair. Everything seemed fine, until November. I ignored the constant restarts, shutdowns, freezes, slow response time & keypads that wouldn't work unless restarted for about two months when I finally brought it back to Nokia Care. After a 'Repair' the report showed no signs of fault with the phone, but the technician believed it could have been my memory card. When I got it back my speaker at the top of my phone, used for calling was crackling & I could barely hear. Why have I had so, very many problems with the e65!
! Nokia ALWAYS try to tell me it's the memory card. Even when I told them it just has music & photos on there! They said it's like a virus & your phone can't stop viruses like PC's. BUT I HAD TREND MICRO ANTIVIRUSE FOR E65 & when I told them that they didn't say ANYTHING! DO NOT BUY!

Apart from an early teething problem when it would turn itself off when you slid the phone open a little aggressively, it has been everything that I expected it to be.

This phone has issues with its keypad, & has problems with its software. It is in dire need of a firmware update, problem is there is so much money in contracts & the demand for making new handsets is just rising.

Garbage phone, it just rebooted itself than whilst I was writing a message. The first one I had broke down within 2 weeks, (turning itself off several times a day, often midst function, calls getting cut off). It was replaced for free, since that it hasn't been as revolting a phone, but as people have mentioned the software lags like there is no tomorrow. So everything is VERY slow, most of the functions are not of particular use unless you use it as a phone for business, in which case I feel sorry for you because the lack of usability & reliability of the phone would have a much greater impact on you.
The camera is very very average despite the 2 megapix camera & over the last 2 months or so my phone has learnt a brand new trick of destroying the image that was taken & replacing it with a nice shade of opaque BLACK. So if you use it for taking any photos get them off the phone as soon as you can, & it seems to do this in a fairly random manner, so it just destroys whichever photo it likes & it done this to many photos.
All in all I had Samsung d500 & that lasted me well without a hitch for about 2 years before it played up AT ALL.
I went back to Nokia on this phone because I had great experience with early Nokia models, 8350 I think it was, they tried to make it fancy & created something that isn't worth using.

I've had this phone for about 4 months now, not had a single problem with it. The form factor is great, the keys are nicely spaced from the bottom of the slide so it doesn't get in the way & it's full of useful software, with tons more on the net ready to download! The battery life is fine, I do a lot of browsing over 3G so I have to charge it every 3 or 4 days, & that's no problem. My only gripe is that the interface can be slow at times & the slide handling is infuriating, rather than locking the keys when you close the phone it asks you whether you want to lock them or not. Oh well I've downloaded a key lock application for it to fix that.
By the way the guy who can't change the volume, there are volume keys on the side of the phone!

In total I have sent the phone back a total of 5 times to be repaired as it kept freezing, shutting down, go blank & vibrate itself along my work station. I have an 18 month O2 contract & to suffer this for a further 14 months is non negotiable. On the second time of sending it back they furnished me with a new phone as they were unable to detect the problem within 7days. Low & behold within 3 days of receiving the new phone déjà vou so back it goes twice more before going back again this Monday & saying completely different handset or make or I go for frustration of contract & demand back all my monies I have paid. I got home & was using the phone for about 3 hours when I realised the keypad was no longer illuminating (yes, I know about the sensor & that you have to be in the dark). Only the lower section on the slide was non functional. The upper keys below the screen seemed to be unharmed.
I took the phone back to 3Mobile today & they graciously gave me a brand new handset.
I brought it home & used it for a similar period & discovered it needed charging. I put it onto charge on the charger I was given & took it off about 3 hours later. It was dark at this point. I won't even mention the incredibly abysmal battery life. Nokia you have 100% lied about this. Even with WLAN scanning & Bluetooth disabled, you would be lucky to get 12 hours (yes, 12, not even 24) from it. This phone should immediately be taken off the market. I have read the previous reviews & agree totally with those who have experienced problems with their E65's.
If you are someone who hasn't had any problems up to now then you are either very lucky or just haven't had your phone long enough! I had a faultless Samsung D600 before this & regret moving back to Nokia (I won't make this mistake again).
The phone's software is far too slow, the earpiece microphone sometimes 'crackles', the font is too small (how on earth Nokia got away with that one I don't know! ), the phone occasionally turns itself off, the battery life is a joke (I am having to charge up the phone every night even after 20/30mins use during the day), the complexity of sending a simple text to different people or forwarding texts on is SO long winded compared to the Samsung.
Nokia should learn from their mistakes with this phone, otherwise they're going to lose a lot of loyal customers to other brands.

As with a lot of the other reviews it looks OK & comes with a lot of features however it is just too buggy.
Mine regularly decides not to redial from the recent calls list or phone book & the only fix seems to be a restart. Nokia should include a dedicated button for this as every Nokia I have ever owned at some time or another needed to be turned off & on again.
I also found it frustrating to navigate the menus as places you expected to find things were not there. I just gave up a Samsung phone which never had one problem or required a restart (just didn't display your calendar on the main screen) to get this Nokia.

I was attracted by the looks of the E65, but discovered that they can be very deceiving! It is VERY user unfriendly. I have had mine 7 months, & already I cannot hear incoming calls through the handset, only through the loudspeaker which doesn't allow for very private conversations! The keyboard no longer lights up, although it did in the beginning. The font is FARE TOO SMALL! My disappointment was immense when I searched the software for a facility to increase the font size, there just isn't one! This is probably Nokia's biggest blunder.

What rubbish it is! I want to warn all people considering this model. Don't! I've made a mistake of entrusting in the brand & not checking any independent forums before purchase. Got one a few ways ago, it was a brand new model, but had to have the sim lock taken off, as networks didn't match. This voids my warranty to each I intelligently agreed. I remember me saying to the guy, well the phone is new & Nokia is reliable, so why bother.
Now, the keypad light is gone & I am impatiently waiting for all other problems to develop. How thrilling. I'll dump this rubbish through an auction site in two months or so, when I will renew my contracts. Hope the auction will be popular. After all, if someone badly needs this phone, they can buy it for half the price & already broken.
Oh, & texting has been modified in a way that reduced language support which earlier allowed for special characters in my language to be converted to non accented Latin letters, no longer works. It works bloody the same as full support so why bother putting this option in the first place (did work in past models though). Now each SMS is 62 or something characters long. How brilliant. I am sure all the operators are so grateful. I am going to convert to fridge like handsets by LG. I promise.

The only bad point about this phone is its battery, as it runs out quickly, but to be specific after using the wireless device for some time. It is its main problem because as a new phone I have to charge the battery almost on daily bases.
A great phone all in all. Recommended for serious people in using wireless & communication features it has.

Great looking phone. Good features when they all work! Mind you I have got the wi fi now working with the Orange Livebox. Still all too late, I've given the E65 to the Wife as she doesn't depend on a mobile like me. Problems too many to mention Nokia, just sort out firmware etc to make all our lives happy. I got this phone on contract with Orange when it first came out. I have had four replacements since then!
Orange would not let me change the handset to another make after number 5 so they fobbed me off with a £100 compensation. Don't make sense I told them. They did tell me that there were lots of problems & they were fully aware of them but were powerless to do anything for me or the hundreds likewise. Rubbish I know things can only get better.

I see from the previous reviews that some of you have had issues with your E65 so I wanted to show the other side of the coin. The design is great & I have the red & silver one. The features are abundant. The usability is fantastic also. There are more applications on the E65 than you can shake a stick at & all of them are easy to use. Some people who have not had such a feature packed phone before might take a day or two to get used to where some applications are. Nokia have however made some really useful links from the home page to messages, calendar etc.
The speed at which the applications load is sometimes slower than other phones with less applications, but when you consider what this phone is capable of it's certainly worth the extra second or two.
I'd highly recommend this phone to anyone.

This phone looks great & is packed with features (Skype is why I bought it), & as some others have mentioned, it is great when it is working, but unfortunately often.
I find myself frequently turning the phone off & back on again because certain things won't work. The main one being that after a certain period of time, the phone just decides it won't make any more calls. I cannot make calls through recent calls, phone book or even dialling the number straight in. This is really very annoying!
I've never had any problems with Nokia before, but it has to be said that this phone really is garbage considering the number of problems that I've had & that I've only had it for about two months.

I bought my Nokia E65 8 weeks ago & I really like my Nokia N65. I have just been using a Motorola V & my Nokia is by far the better phone. I really wished I had not gone from Nokia to Motorola in the first place.
At least I am giving a positive response to the reviews. It does have quite a lot of programmes on, which I doubt I will never use, but it is compact & easy to use. Keep up the good work Nokia.

I've been reading all the comments on E65 & I am just amazed, mainly because of the bad ones. In my case I have no complaint about e65 at all & I've had a bad history of Nokia cell's (broken 6670, n70, e50 (battery dead in 1 hour etc), only good example is I still have it 6680 & because of that changed to Sony Ericsson (K800i with good 3.2 camera) but after two phones (both with amazing firmware bugs) returned them to the shop & bought E65. Amazing, works fine, with Wi Fi, good call quality, no events at all. Maybe it's only mine battery till now, no problems with self off events or anything else, so I have to say E65 YES!

Battery lasts only 2 days in standby, compared with published figures (depending where you look) of 7 days. This is a real problem if you are travelling around. My phone went back to Nokia for repair because of this, but came back just the same.
The font size is much too small. I have problems reading the text even when wearing reading glasses. I definitely won't be getting another Nokia phone in the future.

By far, the worst phone & the worst Nokia I have ever had. It gets stuck & the only way to restart it is by taking the battery out, it misses small features (like Auto Keypad Lock) that I had in older Nokia models. I have upgraded the firmware & now I cannot enter a message details or a call details feature. This phone really sucks! If you are planning on buying a mobile phone this one IS NOT FOR YOU.

The worst Nokia phone I have ever had. I will never have one again. Have spent hours on the phone to my service provider because of the lack of signal, & they can't do anything about it until Nokia say there is a problem. When it goes for repair, Nokia just keep putting a different firmware version on it, but nothing changes, apart from different logos & pictures on the menu. Do not buy this phone. As they say, looks can be deceiving.

I've stuck with Nokia's for a long time but after my 6233 losing its signal even after repair, this rubbish bit of kit really is my last Nokia. Menu access is very slow, the contacts button only works sometimes meaning I can't access any of my contacts, great, NOT.
Everything takes so long to do. Can't find how to set up a default text number as previous phone. To do anything takes so many button pushes. Battery life is rubbish & screen is wasted as you can't use full size wallpapers.
Screen marks when you slide keypad, like something rubbing the screen from back. Lack of stopwatch, countdown timer. OK, I can probably download one but I'd like a phone to be complete when I buy it. No software upgrade yet. WHY NOT?
Memory card awkward to change quickly & rear cover flimsy & doesn't secure properly. Only reason I chose this was it was the only half decent Nokia available on O2. Finally when is a manufacturer going to put the screen & keyboard the other way round so screen is protected & slides down?
This is now my second failure from Nokia. Bet they are losing loads of customers with junk like this. Should have improved 6233 reliability & enclose it in this case, it would have been a winner (with a 3.5mm jack plug). Overall a complicated bit of garbage. Nokia should stop insulting their customer base.

UPDATE - Just got my E65 back from Carphone Warehouse. The person in the shop told me that the numerical keypad wasn't fixed (from Nokia). I went & picked up the phone anyway, got it home switched it on & the keypad lit up, nice one lads. She didn't check it in the shop before giving me it, told me that there was no repair, maybe no report. The Carphone Warehouse I don't think have staff that care for their jobs or something. Nokia did fix it anyway. I am OK for now but not a sausage on the coating flaking into dust at the right of the screen. Awaiting Nokia's call. It's a good phone, I just hope or wish they get it right & sorted out.

I bought my Nokia E65 in September. The keypad light (numerical keys) never lit up from it was first switched on. I am having serious trouble sorting this problem out with Nokia. I feel that they will try to push me aside.
Also the cover coating is blistering, falling off or turning into powder or something. I noticed it one day on my screen, powdery. It is a poor substance or its outer coating seal is poor. I have always been a Nokia customer for years but if they push me away I'll never return. This is the first Nokia problems I've had ever. Are they running themselves into the ground? They will if they don't call back these e65's & replace them with a correctly modified model. I am losing my trust in them very fast. The phone functions are excellent & I am sure any newly introduced model will have hic-ups but they should've fully tested it. Instead they have a bit of a nightmare on their hands & I think no one will call their bluff.
I am waiting a call from their dept for who knows what. They said they found water damage in my phone but how come I've noticed 'a lot' of people with the exact same symptoms? I doubt it's a coincidence, not that big & the fact that I didn't get a chance to use the thing. I look after it & it always was in its pouch. Nokia please sort this out before it puts a large dent in your name.

I've had mine for about 4 months now. I researched quite heavily on all other phone options before I got this. I did buy mine sim free though as I am against any kind of operator restrictions, & I don't have to look at their rubbish logo's. I used to have a 6270 before which was really easy to use, good camera & a slider.
This I got as it's so well designed & a slim size for all its features. It is the first Symbian phone I've had & knew this could be an adventure for me as I had been used to the simple & smooth working of standard Nokia & Sony Ericsson systems. I must admit it took a while to get used to all the menus & their sub-systems, though it has proved to be really worth it.
The phone is a beauty, has WLAN, allows me to Bluetooth or infra-red things to other people, plays full screen video [on a very nice qvga screen], I can upload games which play perfectly. I've not had any problems, once I got used to the quirks of symbian over the simple standard user interface, people around me love it, outside of a flash for the camera it's perfect.

- Quad Band.
Bad points -
- Battery life (This is the second E65 & I still can't get any more than 48hrs on standby with no use) with 30 minutes of talktime the battery dies in less than 24 hrs.

Love the phone itself. But I am currently sending my second handset back to receive a totally different model. As both handsets I had switched off while I was in the middle off phone calls. Andi was assured that it was just a faulty handset. I now have my wonders of whether they have forgotten to put something in the phone that needs to be there. But I shall not be having another handset of this model as I think they may all be faulty & is not worth the hassle if it is going to happen again. Without this fault I would highly recommend the phone as it in my eyes is a style icon. I would get it out & people would be 'that's awesome' but I had to tell them the downside. The only other downside is that it is not a very speedy phone, so would not be recommended for teenagers such as myself. It is a marvellous design & I wish there was no fault so I could keep this model. But I shall move on to the Motorola Z8. I hope this has helped you while on your search for a phone.

Second the instruction manual didn't say much about any of the functions, seems you have to work it out yourself!
I like the size but it's like working a computer rather than a phone, so many sub sections & you have to hunt for what ever you want, it's in there somewhere! Always been a Nokia customer but think they needed to really plan this phone a little better.

The other problem is the rubber coating on the phone, it wears out & peels off very quickly. I've looked after the phone & kept it in a pouch but the rubber coating is peeling off all over the phone.

I bought this phone 2 months ago there was a problem in it, that the keypad of the numeric buttons does not work I changed it with another one. So no problem, but there is something I want to comment about it:
Good things:
1) Software & applications are so fast
2) WLAN working in an easy way & helpful
3) Design is so good & pretty small in size
4) You can setup any applications on it without any problems
Bad things:
1) On switching on the phone & turning on it's so slow
2) Battery time needs to be more sufficient especially in the talking time
3) Need in its package more larger MMC
4) Camera is not in the suitable place while you are using it
5) Support 3G wiz one camera, don't know why
But finally for business & multimedia & everything I think it's so good compared to another Nokia models its better than N-Series especially that you can create in its gallery folders for pics & so. Not albums like N-Series.

The VOIP phone meaning I could access my voip discount & other voip accounts & make calls over the net at home & wi-fi access areas took time to setup but works like magic once I got it figured out.
I have noticed that calls do get disconnected after 22 - 23 minutes. But this has stopped happening once I decided to reduce my phone usage. Smart move anyways. Also the phone does get heated up after constant use. Not funny if you have non-tropical skin.

I bought this phone from carphone warehouse & have had it for 5 weeks. I was originally attracted to its looks, although I was meant to be getting the N95 but changed my mind when O2 told me about the problems with battery life - (pathetic I know) but I loved it the minute I started to play with it.
It did develop a fault after 3 days, the four buttons on the front of the phone stopped working but I couldn't be bothered to take it back at the time. This rectified itself within the week & it is now working fine.
I love the sleek design & its easy grip finish. I do find it slow when accessing text messages & it is awkward having to go through all the processes of selection before you get to your text. The Bluetooth function is not disappointing & the WLAN is awesome & easy to configure with home networking. I have yet to try the printing function. The camera could process a little quicker but I find the quality good. I would prefer to personalize the top & sub menus when on standby mode to programs I would find more suitable for me. Quality of sound when making calls I find to be excellent & clear regardless of surroundings.
GOOD POINTS
1. Excellent battery life compared to some other phones. Charge it approx 1-2 times a week.
2. Love the design & casing doesn't slip in your hands.
3. Reminders from calendar shown on screen - saves going into calendar every day to check.
4. WLAN.
5. Easy access keys with some personalization function with own key on front of phone.
BAD POINTS
1. Has no repeat alarm function - this is a big disappointment to me.
2. No reminder function in calendar! It was so much easier to put appointments in as reminders in my previous 6280, with this phone I have to put them either as things to do (which you have to keep going back & selecting as done - which also makes them disappear - so no record of them. If you don't they keep showing on front of phone) or input them as meetings which takes ages putting info in. Also you can't jump to future dates by inputting the number from calendar - you have to go through the sub menu again.
3. Contacts cannot be changed to view both contact name & number as on other phones.
4. Unable to save or call numbers from text messages you receive.
5. This phone is too slow for me I prefer to input data quickly & easily.
6. Too many sub menus to trawl through which can be frustrating.
In all honesty I still prefer my old 6280 for ease of use & functionality but it was useless for reliability & developed numerous faults & at the end of the day you need to know that you can rely on your phone when needed.
So would I recommend this phone?
I would say think carefully before you buy this phone. If you don't mind trawling through all the little sub menus or aren't that fast on the phone then go for it but if you want speed then look elsewhere.

The reason this phone shuts itself off is because it is like a computer. There are many applications running at once as does on a computer. To prevent your phone from shutting itself off turn it off for an hour or so when you are not expecting calls or messages from anyone. Or just shut if off in the morning when you are getting ready for work or school then turn it back on when you arrive. It does not guarantee the stoppage of your phone shutting off but it will reduce it. I experienced this problem but a couple buddies I work with also have Nokias (N95 & N80) & both told me their phones shut off (N80 more so than E65 or N95) & they told me to shut my phone off for a period of time to let it rest so to speak & it has helped. Hopefully this has helped you with your problem.

FONT SIZE:
The person who agreed the font size to be used must have had picked up his binoculars by mistake instead of his glasses. THIS IS MY BIGGEST PROBLEM!
VIDEO CALLING:
He also seemed to think that using the phone in front of a mirror for video calling seemed a good idea.
BATTERY LIFE:
If you can be bothered to stick a silver bit in the bottom of the phone & plug the other end into a wall socket, when your are sleeping, the battery lasts 365 days.
LOCK KEYPAD:
It is actually quicker to slide phone up & down & hit YES than press the on/off switch, select lock keypad, select OK.
I cannot find out how to search for a contact by number rather than name? LG do this magnificently.
My Bluesport earpiece doesn't want to work with the E65 Bluetooth for some reason?

Bart & I made a lot of inquiries from the Nokia-shop & other Telco shops in Hong Kong, just wanted to have different opinions. We were happy that the shops staff were all friendly, professional & neutral to explain to us. After a day of window shopping, we were frustrated with the phones as each has its strengths & weaknesses. Eventually, we decided to buy a phone which suits Bart most, the Nokia E65. In the Hong Kong airport, we tried the free Wi-Fi. Wow, what a great intervention! Another great discovery of E65 is that you can watch TV as well, provided that you've subscribed the service. Of course, there are other good phones to watch TV. But my hands are small & E65 is handy to me. So far, Bart is happy with it, & I am thinking to buy myself one E65 as PCCW Mobile provides free 4000-minute 'Now TV' service that my favourite CNBC & Bloomberg are included.
Overall speaking, the E65 gives customers more options in high-resolution to support our work.

Attracted by its looks & the fact I wanted to upgrade my 6280 slide phone (which I loved apart from the usual problems) & I chose this. Big mistake, it's on its way back. Far too complicated for someone like me who wants a stylish yet quite easy phone to do all the basics without a lot of hassle & a MAGNIFYING glass. How can Nokia think us older users can see the text without obtaining some other software?! NOT the phone for anyone wanting an easy life as there is far too many buttons (to get wrong with a slip of the finger) very disappointed.

Got the E65 as an upgrade, loved it at first, liked the slim shape & slider, but the main problem for me is the small font size. Can't read anything on it without glasses on & what is the point in having a slim phone if you've got to carry a whopping great pair of specs with you everywhere you go! So I am afraid I will have to send it back to O2.

I have now tried 3 Nokia E65's & each one seems to have the same fault when trying to download games from the Vodafone Live site. When I download a game, all goes well until I get to the last 10 Mb or so. The file suddenly stops downloading & then either states 'invalid JAR file' or just disconnects. Whilst I appreciate this is a business handset, I quite often like to play a game on my phone when waiting at airports & this is disappointing. Any thoughts out there?

No phone will ever please 100% of people 100% of the time, but I much preferred this phone to the 6280 that I had for ten months before it. After the abysmal 6280, this phone was easy to impress me, but the main reason I wanted it was because it has quickword, like the old 6630 which I still have as a spare.
I've seen several reviews complain about little things like no keypad lights, which there are, Carphone Warehouse have it wrong. It has a built in sensor, like the 6280, which monitors light, so it will only come on when needed in dark places & the other being used for music. Like someone else has stated, if you use the recent Nokia stereo headphones from previous phones, like 6280 (it's only redeeming feature) it will stay plugged in securely in your pocket. I walk to work everyday listening to it while it sits in my trouser pocket & have never had a problem with it.
The battery life is usual for multi use Nokia's, & as many have said, turn off everything you don't use all the time, to save energy, plus it charges in only a couple of hours.
The only thing I was disappointed with was its alarm capability. The 6280 had an alarm feature that you could set a recurring alarm for certain days of the week, like I used to have mine set for 6:30am, Monday to Friday every week, & never needed to reset it every night. This phone didn't come with it, BUT, I did find a free alarm download that does just that, so it was OK.
It is much slimmer than the 6280, & as I was use to the locking feature, this phone is actually much easier to flick up & down with just my thumb than the other, so I never use the on button to lock it (don't know what the fuss is about with that! ).
The font size is the same as previous Nokia phones, & it isn't that small. For word documents, you can change the font size & I always have it on small. I have never had a problem with it loading text messages, & it is only slow at loading documents because they are long & are stored on the memory card. I would definitely power like it's going out of fashion!

With WLAN connected to my home systems, I login to my XBOX XBMC & use it as remote control since XBMC has a web interface for controlling the GUI. Also, I access my media center web GUI & play/pause etc. My saved movies, music (not play into the cell, just to control it).

I am sorry I don't like this phone. Why you may ask?
- Some obvious features are missing, such as radio & an alarm that you can set more than one day ahead. Symbian will sell you a proper alarm as a download for 10 USD. What a rip off as they designed the platform for this phone in the first place!
- It is not easy to use. Settings are not always obvious, a previous reviewer said that you can't change the desktop icons, well you can but it took me a week to find out how.
- Nokia have been very mean with pre-loaded material. Only one wallpaper, no games, only a few applications. Yes you can always download stuff but even if it's free you get stung with the data charges.
Are there any positives? Well there are two browsers for WAP & the web & these are pretty good. Voice activated features work well. The phone looks great, that's it.

Wonderful phone, much smaller with more functions then my old 6280, however slower to open text messages & access a blank message. Truphone (skype) is totally amazing & free! Battery is fairly good & charges quickly. Phone works amazingly with my car (Bluetooth), I can read text messages & dial without taking my hands off the wheel, all read through the dash! I would recommend when they fix the speed issue's on a bad day it can take 2 minutes to open a text message but today! 6 seconds (still too long but all the other functions I am not too worried.)

I have been a very loyal Nokia customer for over ten years now & have used a variety of handsets, 3510, 5210i, 7610i, N70 to name the last 4 alone. My favourite, thus far was the N70 which I was very happy with. Unfortunately particular one!
I am now locked into a 12 month contract with a handset I really dislike to say the least, simply because I have been loyal to the Nokia brand.
I can assure you that this has seriously affected my confidence in Nokia products & will be looking to replace the E65 handset at the earliest opportunity.
Considering this is a very new model I am utterly bemused by Nokia's latest design. Are visually impaired people no longer part of world-thinking? Sony Ericsson, Samsung & Motorola will be looked at in more detail in future.

A lot of incorrect things are being said about this phone, this should clear things up:
'The phone has no keypad lights under the numbers'
- Yes, it does! They only light up when it's dark thanks to the light sensor next to the earpiece. Don't believe car phone warehouse!
'The phone has no games'
- It's aimed at business ffs, games are freely available on the net.
'No front facing camera/useless for video calls'
- 3G isn't just for video calling, it's for high speed mobile broadband too. Read the specs, if you often make video calls then this isn't the phone for you!
'The fonts are too small'
- They are about the same size as most modern phones with high-resolution screens. The font size can be changed with an extra program that's available for free.
'The battery life is too short'
- Like all modern phones you can save a lot of battery power by switching off Bluetooth, 3G & wi-fi when you don't need it.
'You can't lock the keys without opening & closing the slider'
- Total rubbish! The phone can be locked by pressing the power button once & selecting lock keypad, simple!
'It's not a good as the 6600'
- Sentimental point, the 6600 was a bug ridden brick & just as easy to break, I should know!
The phone has its fair share of bugs but that's just one of the pitfalls of buying a hi-tech smartphone.

I've had this phone for about 2 weeks plus now.
Good points:-
1) Very quick response time for sms & getting into email account.
2) Pretty to look at.
3) Calendar function in standby mode very useful.
Bad points:-
1) Small minute fonts (I am long sighted in my 40's)
2) Can press the 'green' call button to automatically call anyone who has sms you (sms in INBOX) BUT can't do the same with sms you have sent out (in SENT box). Why? I may have had to reject an incoming call with an auto sms button & later need to call this no. List of incoming calls may be too long to retain this 'RECEIVED' tel no so I keep my SENT sms in order to return call to this no. So I need to use a pen & pencil to write down this no from my sms SENT BOX & then call the number manually.
3) Can't keypad lock without first sliding it up & down. E.g. when making call, last number redial, we can make call without sliding open cover by pressing green call button. After call, can anyone tell me how I can keypad lock without having to slide open & close phone just to get the words 'Lock keypad? 'On the display?
4) Number buttons are flushed & difficult to feel any grooves in between buttons. Tension of button feel is not very conducive for sms. Tends to miss certain letters. Good-to-press buttons are like those on Samsung & Sony Ericsson phones (my 2 previous phones).
5) Alarm function can't be set for selection of days. Unlike my previous Sony Ericsson, I could set alarm for 6am from Mondays to Fridays (those days being working days & I have to get up early) & leave alarm off for Saturday & Sundays. Where is such a function in E65? Can't even set a daily alarm much less an alarm based on days of the week. & my Sony E costs less than half the price of my present E65.
Will let you know about anything else as I continue by exploration of my new E65.

I've had this phone for around 4 weeks now.
First off, I would like to point out to people having problems with the keypad lights not working that this may be to do with the phone having a light sensor built in.
This detects the amount of light & tells the phone whether or not the keypad lights need to be on. (I.e. if its pitch black, the keypad lights will be on & vice versa if it's bright daylight). The idea is to save on battery power.
Also, people experiencing only two days battery life. I have used this phone for numerous texts & many hours of calls each week. I usually have to charge it around once a week. Check your programs running in the background by holding down the menu button for a couple of seconds. Cancel & shut down any programs running that you do not need. This will save on power dramatically.
The phone is generally easy to use. Customisable menus are great. Text messaging is easy to compose with options to copy & paste if need be.
Lots of features on this phone including WI-FI enabling use of Internet whilst on the move. Full HTML browser is a bonus.
Read & edit Word files, & transfer to & from PC using Nokia PC Suite. Very easy to set up & very easy to use. You can print wirelessly to a compatible printer should you want to print photos or documents. A handy converter for pretty much anything from miles - kilometres to currency to pressure to power.
MP3 player seems OK, although only supplied with mono earpiece. A bit disappointing, but this is a phone primarily for business, not for kids wanting to take their music to school with them.
Camera phone is OK, although not the best around. Fine for general picture taking with fairly good quality. Again, this is a business phone not a clubbers phone!
For what the phone has been designed to do - keep the business user happy - I believe this is a good choice for this audience as it does all the tasks required, with the added benefit of conference calling. A must for business users.
Recommended? Yes, definitely disappoint.
For all you business users not worried about music or photos, this phone is a must. It performs very well with decent battery life & usability.
Some will like this phone, some will not. At least explain why you don't like this phone or why you do like this phone other than just 'ITS RUBBISH'. That really doesn't help anybody!
Cheers

I am very happy with this phone. I have got the nice chocolaty brown one as opposed to the red. The only problem so far is the very small font size! I can't believe Nokia could design such a good phone but no option to change font size. I could barely read the text I was typing or the list of text messages in either the Inbox or Sent etc. Absolutely ridiculous.
However, I found Font Magnifier software from Psiloc, which cost me 9.95 Euros & it is well worth it because I can now increase the font size. The only thing I can say that has happened is if the font size I have increased is a bit too big, any incoming text messages seemed to crash the phone every time & turned itself off. Decreasing the font size slider by a couple of notches seems to have resolved the problem. Please be wary that installing programs as I have done with this software may affect the phone's warranty. But it was either that, or put up with the small font size & that wasn't an option other than returning the phone to Orange as it's an upgrade (I have tried & returned the Sony 800i, Nokia N73 & Samsung U600). The E65 is here to stay!
I think the battery life is not brilliant & after only 2 days use I have had to put it back on charge, but I can forgive that because I like the phone. I note in another review that disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc may increase the life of the battery so I will see if this makes a difference.
Everyone has their own opinion about this phone, but it's perfect for me.

The things that people complain about is so silly its funny LOL. Like the pictures being too small next to peoples names in contacts. (& ya point is)& the battery life. (if you disable things you know you not going to use that's running in back ground that should help ) the size of the font. (Simple get ya eyes tested and get some glasses) & video calling (people saying the camera the wrong way round and the other person can't see you well who cares and unless you know someone that has video calling on there mobile you can't use it anyway). I think over all the phone looks good got some good stuff on it got everything I been looking for and I am still going to buy it in June so stop being so bloody fussy and enjoy the phone.

The battery life is more than acceptable given what the phone can do, & if used just as 'a phone' I have had almost 4 days before it needed charging.

This is a great phone & feel the need to correct a few points made in the previous review:
Battery Life: Nokia states battery life of the phone running without any extra features switched on. As soon as you enable Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi or leave programs running in the background the battery will drain quickly. The same applies to any phone.
PC Suite: Works perfectly for me using Bluetooth or cable but I am using the latest version from the Nokia website.
MP3 Playback: If you use a newer headset like the one supplied with an N70 or 6233 it works perfectly without disconnecting. It's well known that older headsets or well used ones have this problem. Mine works perfectly in my pocket using my old 6233's headset.
Menu: You can edit the phones front menu (active standby) you can add or remove items (including the team suite) or switch it off completely. If you switch it off you can set shortcuts to the navi key which I prefer.
Keys: I find the buttons very easy to use, not to big & not to small. Great for texting.

I am often amused by people who complain that it does not do this & it does not do that. Basically this is a mobile phone, not an MP3 player, or a digital camera. I bought this phone for its emailing capabilities, without the need of having to carry around a brick simply to have access to a QWERTY keyboard (Most business users would use a laptop anyway for lengthy emails & documents). The phone is relatively simple to use, & the design fairly sleekest (unlike the N95 that looks tacky). The battery life probably could be better, but then again two days to me sounds reasonable enough. Sending a text is easier, & the team function for me is a plus. The addition of Wi-Fi enhances the E65's features. I am not too sure why Nokia placed a pouch in the box that can be used as a carry case, rather than a proper leather case which would have been more useful. The headphones should also have been stereo. Nevertheless this is a great handset for its price, & I am sure that as with all mobile phones, there will be features that will never be utilised.

The phone feels nice to hold. Not too small & awkward. Being a slide phone it can be used either closed or fully opened, which is useful when you're in a noisy environment. This means you don't have to keep moving the phone to your ear to listen & mouth to talk.
Reception is clear & loud. I've had no problems having a conversation in a noisy office, street, or even a bar with blaring music.
The menus are fast & responsive without any noticeable delays, & the screen is nice & sharp, & text easy to read.
The main selling point for this phone has to be the built-in Wi-Fi. I have managed to connect both to my own wireless network & to hot spots to both browse the web using the excellent Nokia full browser, & to read & send emails.
The camera takes quite clear sharp pictures, & there is only around a 1 sec delay after pressing the shutter & waiting for the picture to be taken (i.e. not moving the camera until the picture is saved). The camera sound cannot be turned off unlike most other phones.
So what's bad about the phone, if anything?
Well actually quite a lot. For starters, the battery life is no where near the stated 8 to 14 days standby. I have not managed to get more than 2 days out of this phone, even with only 5 mins of calls & a few sms messages. This makes it pretty useless as a business phone which is the market it appears to be aimed at. No one wants to have to charge up their phone every night, especially if you're away on business. I have no idea how Nokia managed to get 8, yet alone 14 days out of this phone!
PC Suite is very bad. I could not get it to work with Bluetooth which seems to be a problem others are having. There is also no way to sync your sms messages with your PC. My Nokia 6310i could be synchronised with PC Suite 4, & then disconnected. All the sms messages & contacts on the phone would still be accessible on my PC & I could archive them, or go thru them. This isn't possible with the E65. You can only view sms messages while your phone is connected to PC Suite, as they are only 'shown' on the PC & do not sync across to it. This means there is no way of saving or archiving SMS messages with this phone.
The MP3 player is pretty much unusable. Nokia have opted to use a standard phone connection rather than a proper earphone connection. The problem is that the connection keeps coming loose, even with little movement. There's no way you can have the phone in your pocket as the connection will come apart. I gave up using the phone as an MP3 player after a day.
The menu system is fixed. You cannot move items onto the main screen menu or remove items, so you are stuck with the items on the screen even if you do not use them. The Team Suite is the first icon on the screen. I never use it, but am always accidentally selecting it. I should be able to remove it.
The keys on the keypad are only slightly raised, & are very fiddly & take time to get used to. Business phones need a decent keypad. The 6310i has one.
Would I recommend it? Well, it's not useable as a business phone due to the poor battery life. It's not useable as a media phone due to the poor outdated earphone connection. The Wi-Fi is about the only thing it has going for it. I do like it, but it should have been so much better. I would not recommend it though.

I've had two Nokia E65's in 2 weeks, both have developed the same problem within a couple of days. The keypad lights stop working randomly & from what I read a lot of other faults develop.
Nevertheless, I really like this phone & considering trying a 3rd one hoping that 3rd time lucky might strike & I won't get any future problems. If this phone was problem free it would be amazing, as it stands reliability is a major issue with the E65.

I got the E65 as an upgrade & the first one I had just over a week when the 4 business buttons on the front of the phone stopped working. O2 swapped the phone for another E65 & this worked fine for about a week before it also developed a fault. Firstly when ringing out or accepting a call you couldn't hear the person at the other end of the line then this seemed to rectify itself but then another fault occurred where the phone would just turn itself off then back on again. This was happening about 3 to 4 times a day. It's a real shame because the phone itself is solid, the weight & slide were great & features fantastic (apart from the camera which was poor). I genuinely think it is a fantastic phone & maybe the two I had were just rogues but it did put me off as I need a reliable phone. If you manage to get one that works fine then I feel you're onto a winner.

The e65 is bad, fonts are not changeable & are small & virtually unreadable. Spoke to Nokia they confirm that new symbian software does not support larger fonts, what a lame excuse! Sack symbian!
Video calling camera is not front facing, about as useful as chocolate fire guard! This probably the worst functionally designed phone ever from Nokia. I am surprised you devoted so much print to this load of rubbish from Nokia!
This must be quick recall if Nokia is to keep their reputation in tact.

After a long time Nokia has come up with a good model & practical features. The instrument is light weight & comfortable to carry around. What I like most in the model is its big display & had the font size been little big it would have been best.

Just got this phone yesterday as a replacement for the 6680. First impressions are excellent. The screen, design & keys are a delight to use & it seems very stable. Stability is most important as I had a lot of issues with the 6680 collapsing or running out of memory, something this phone doesn't seem to suffer from.
Even before I was set up with the network operator I was browsing the Internet using the wireless LAN via my home network & found the experience worthwhile even for such a small screen. The browser is very good.
