Took phone out of pocket & saw ink stain on screen. Screen was broken after 3 weeks from new. Quoted £50 for a repair. From looking at other reviews seems 4 or 5 people had same problem. Very weak screen. I agree with other reviewer that this phone is not fit for purpose.

This is the worst phone I have ever owned, it freezes & drops calls usually when I am trying to book appointments with customers. At first I thought the problem was with the network, but I have spoken to others with this phone on a variety of networks & we have all had the same reliability issues.

I have just had my phone on contract 3 to 4 weeks & have not experienced any problems so far except for the back of the phone which when removed, which was very difficult, & no instructions, I found it would not fit back properly so now the back is not flush with the phone, it has not affected the usage, but it has made the phone LUMPY. Still don't know how to solve the problem as I can't find any info relating to it.

I've had my 6500s for 6 months now, this phone is superior to a lot of the stuff out there. I dropped it in the loo on the 2nd week, dried it out, reassembled it, still worked! With NO problems! Unbelievable, I am still shocked (touch wood! ) the user friendliness of all Nokia's remains a feature I'd pay money for. The camera on it is brilliant. The resolution, sharpness & focus is in a league of its own. It's been dropped 10 feet from a ladder, the only thing that happened was an internal mount for a screw has snapped resulting in a lost screw but the thing is indestructible so it seems. A bit on the heavy side but what it does makes up for that.

WELL worth buying. I downloaded the new firmware for it after reading about crashing & glitching but it has NEVER done it to me (yet). The radio has good, reception & demodulation, the media player is excellent, especially when you use the cable & plug it into a display! Not many phones have THAT!

All round, this thing is the best phone ever made (IMAO)! Maybe I just got a lucky one. Either way, highly recommendable.

I'd give it 100 out of 10!

The memory card slot works but I found a little switch on the inside, on the left side of the memory card. This is flicked up which activates the memory card in the phone.

I had this phone as a replacement as my Sony Ericsson was replaced over four times.

The overall phone is okay, there isn't a lot to do on it, however it is easy to use & is slick. My main complaint is the lack of memory as my memory card does not work & it sometimes switches itself off.

I can't wait to upgrade but has been a good phone.

This phone has been an absolute nightmare. DO NOT BUY IT.

I have also had absolutely no help from O2 despite being a customer for over 6 years. I have had this phone repaired twice & replaced once & am still experiencing the same problems. O2 seem completely not bothered by my complaints. They will not replace my handset or offer me any other form of compensation. This phone

- Randomly cuts out during calls, texts, anything really.
- Switches off & will not switch on again for ages despite a full battery, great if you need to make an emergency call.
- Will not read memory card.
- Will not let me unlock the keypad.
- Screen has cracked.
- Loses signal constantly.
- Has very short battery life, I.e. You have to charge it DAILY.

I have been using Nokia phones for about 5 years & will NOT be getting another one. Ridiculous.

Great achievement from the Nokia technologies, however the phone is freezing sometimes & well resumes after a while. The double flash is extraordinarily good as quality pixels are produced. The TV out is amazing unlike other phones.

When Nokia designed the 6500s they obviously wanted to produce a phone which does everything & looks sleek & modern. They achieved this but unfortunately better half had were as follows.

- It chose to only read the memory card when it felt like.
- the phone becomes VERY hot after about 10 minutes of use.
- Randomly switches off & on, usually when you're writing a long text so you lose it & have to start again.
- It wouldn't charge so I had it replaced AGAIN.
- the screen cracked from a light tap on the table.
- the phone freezes more than not when you open programs.
- After long conversations the voice clarity seems to go down.
- the speaker seemed to blow on every replacement I had.

Although I have been negative about this phone it did have potential to be a really good phone. It has 3G which is quite a good addition as it provides a relatively fast Internet browsing speed, a 3.2meg camera which is quite good considering its resolution. Excellent video capture, Java applications & Full Bluetooth compatibility. Although I thought it was let down by its lack of Wi-Fi compatibility. Also it only supports the smaller capacity micro SD cards which is also a disappointment.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PHONE THEN I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO LOOK AT OTHER MODELS OUT AT the MOMENT AS THIS HAS MANY FAULTS. FOR ITS PRICE THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES WHICH ARE MORE RELIABLE. IF YOU DO CHOOSE THIS PHONE ON CONTRACT, PLEASE GET INSURANCE, IT'S WORTH IT.

Look nice feels nice, good MP3 player but there sadly it ends! I have had this phone 3 months on 3 network & have rarely had a clear conversation with it! Constantly drops signal, cuts me off telling me no network coverage. On top of this it has often shut itself down or frozen so that I have to remove the battery to restart. Should this not be enough it also resets itself & changes all my preferences back to default! My girlfriend had the same phone with the same issues. Avoid this phone! You have been warned.

I have had my phone since October 2008. I love this phone, but my problems with this phone seem unique against all other comments. My problem is with the functions, the centre square button often doesn't work, in either direction (silver square also). Also when I go into names & press for the particular letter of names that doesn't always work either. I just get so frustrated. When I want to use a punctuation mark doesn't always work either.

This phone looks nice. & that would be its only redeeming quality.

It freezes constantly. Occasionally turns on with the wrong colour pixels so you end up with a multicoloured un comprehendible phone. It switches itself off. & most annoyingly there seems to be no solution.

I HAVE SENT IT FOR REPAIR. Apparently I have deliberately tampered with the inside of the phone, by taking it apart, snapping a chip within it, putting the phone back together. & sending it for repair. I now have no phone & monthly bills to pay.

The phone looks nice, but has terrible software issues, just a few of the problems I get are.

- The phone won't unlock the keypad (have to take the battery out).
- It won't open applications, & when it does it crashes.
- The memory card is a bit temperamental.
- When listening to music it will change songs in mid song.

I got this phone from 3G. It looks good & has many good things about it like the camera & the music loudspeaker & the display.

The problems with the phone outweigh the advantages because the mobile fails on basic mobile standards. (This is what I experienced when using the 6500 slide).

These main problems where.

- Phone calls to my friends would cut out from full signal to none.

- The sound from the phone earpiece is difficult to hear even in town & at full volume with full signal.

- Text messages would sometimes arrive the next day.

- Heating up of the handset during calls.

This makes think what has happened to Nokia? The handsets I had in the past where basic (no camera) but the one thing they did was make sure your phone call did not fail.

This makes me think was the Nokia 6500 slide model a rushed job regarding proper quality control. For example when I first opened the box the plus pin used to charge the phone was bent so the charger would not connect with it. This meant it had to be sent away for repair.

They have given me 3 new handsets, so they recon & the same problem every time.

Not good at all shame really it's a great looking phone but I don't think I'll ever have a Nokia again.

I have had my phone for about five months on the 3 network, & this is the worst phone I have ever had. Firstly the signal level goes up & down, & in some places disappears altogether. On a number of occasions I have attempted to make a call only to be greeted with No Network Coverage then by taking one step forward hey presto! Full signal!

Spend any longer than five minutes on a call & it becomes a very effective hand warmer.

The standby time quoted is total rubbish. I switch the phone on at breakfast time & off at bedtime. & I am lucky to get two days before having to recharge.

Amazing camera, good radio & not bad games. However, the battery life is poor & the reception is frankly awful. I am in an area of excellent Orange reception, but can only make calls or send texts if I go outside, even when I get two or three bars, it is apt to drop in the middle of a call.

I am pleased for those who have good experiences with this phone & wouldn't want to write it off altogether, but mine should never have been allowed to leave the factory. Someone is not doing enough quality control at Nokia.

My phone is now 4 months old. A month of that was at Nokia repair.

It keeps registering that the cancel (red) button is being pressed, switches itself on & off. I can't make a call because it hangs up then shuts down, I can't message because it deletes whatever I have typed. It stays on for about 3 minutes at a time. At the moment it is next to me beeping that the button is being pressed & vibrating as it switches on & off.

Useless phone for anything other than a paperweight.

This is the worst phone I have ever. I don't usually go for Nokia I am usually a Samsung fan, but as I was due an upgrade so I thought I would give the Nokia 6500 slide a go.
It was grand for the first few weeks then its stared to freeze all the time, the screen would go blank & you would have to take the battery out to get it going again, it would take ages to write a text as the letters would be slow at appearing on the screen. It would always disable my wallpaper, which might not seem too much of a problem, but this meant that I would have to reset my wallpaper maybe 6 times a day, which was really annoying. Finally it would lose signal quite often & then all of a sudden it would come back again, & if you got a text & it couldn't handle it all it would tell you some text missing, & you could be lucky if you got it the next day. So overall not a good buy, I am now back with Samsung & have no problems at all.

Fabulous looking phone probably the nicest Nokia I have had but a couple of things drive me mad about it & I have only had it since January 2009.

The loudspeaker on it is useless you really can't use it hands-free. Nobody can hear me & I can hardly hear the person I am phoning when I use the loud speaker.

The slider is broken & has being left into shop where I bought it to either be repaired or replaced. No sure this is going to last well. I use my phone a lot & reckon this will keep happening.

Settings are a bit strange, if I change wallpaper it seems to change back by itself.

High on features & low on performance, this is what one could really say about this slider phone from Nokia. This instrument is a mixed bag of features, of which, most are good only on the spec sheet but in terms of functionality they really aren't.

The slider mechanism.

This is a big letdown function of this instrument. The slider mechanism is designed so flaw fully that the friction between the sliding panels is easily felt by the fingers of the user. Moreover, use the slider function for more than once & you will notice serious scratches being developed on the keypad.

The Camera.

Whilst the manufacturers try to impress the perspective buyers by high mega pixel counts & using optics of renowned brand names at the same time they forget to understand that the quality of the final image is dependent mostly on the size & quality of the sensor rather than the brand name of the optician or higher mega pixel count. On the other hand, packing higher mega pixels on a very tiny sensor would rather deteriorate the final image quality. This is exactly the case with this instrument, as the final images are packed with noise & JPEG artefacts making them useless for taking prints even on a 4 Inch x 6 Inch paper.

TV out feature.

This is one of the USP's of this phone & of course very useful. This allows one to view movie footages directly on the TV without any need to convert the video file to MPEG / AVI & then burn into CD's.

Sound quality, Reception & reliability.

The sound quality of just about average. The quality of signal reception is quite poor resulting in unclear conversations & call cut offs though the quality of sound through the music player is quite acceptable.

Design Build Quality fit & finish.

The quality of materials used & the manner in which they are integrated gives an impression that the instrument is designed to last longer period. I have personally dropped this phone on hard surfaces from a height of above 1.8 Metres for more than 7 to 8 times & the phone is perfectly OK without any damages. My sole complain in this department is that the only access available for the phone to reach the memory card is through the latch provided for holding the battery cover plate. This latch is very inconsistent & breaks the access to memory card quite often. As a result, the user looses the ring tones, themes, wall papers etc & the phone switches back to defaults, which is very annoying. This problem can however be overcome by copying the themes, wallpapers & ring tones etc (which the user intends to apply) into the phone memory & then apply.

Overall Comments.

Although the phone has good looks & good build quality, it however lets the user down by mediocre performance, non reliability & poor usability.

Great looking phone but beware, looks are deceptive! Whole host of problems with this model, overheating battery, this is less of an issue as time goes by but quite alarming to start with. The major bug bear is the software (on 3 Network UK). Phone constantly crashes & I have had the memory flashed twice but still causes problems (my wife's is the same). Phone jams, end up having to remove the battery to get it to work again. Battery life is poor too. Web browser does not shut down half the time either. Chatting to a staff member in the £ shop he admitted they had received issues with this model.

Carphone Warehouse bloke blamed it on the software from 3 Mobile. Great looking phone, great functions built in, shame they don't work! Mine on several occasions nearly got bounced off the wall with frustration. Glad my 18 months is up. Won't be buying a Nokia again!

I had this phone as a Christmas present & on an 18 month contract I want a different phone.

The phone kept freezing & switching off & the screen would be grainy for a while, I left this as it didn't happen too often but then it got worse, also the camera wouldn't come on & the ear speaker had a funny echo sound which is hard to explain but I couldn't make out what the caller was saying.

The silver on the main navigational button is peeling off & looks tacky now & I don't even use the phone that much.

Now my phone has been to be repaired I had the phone back the same day as I took it to Carphone Warehouse & the store was a Nokia repair centre. It worked for a while & now it's gone back to crashing & turning off.

I have given this phone high ratings, as for about 10 months of the 12 months I have owned it I have had very few problems.

My boyfriend & I both have this phone & have both started experiencing similar problems over the last couple of months, losing your contacts, memory card not being recognised (so all photo's lost), text messages disappearing, poor signal at times, phone freezing & also switching itself off.

I really did like this phone at the start, it's lovely to look at & as a long time Nokia fan I don't regret buying it. I would recommend having phone insurance if you buy this phone as you never quite know what is going to happen next.

I have spoken to someone in a mobile store & they confirmed that there has been several 'glitches' with this phone.

I wouldn't avoid buying it but be beware that you may have some problems after a while.

My impression is people treat their phone like I treat my boots & just don't give a stuff that the damn thing contains hundreds of thousands of micro circuits. Just like my six year old they expect it still to work after it's flushed down the toilet & thrown out the window!

Freezes when slide is opened, gets stuck on lock & need to remove battery to fix this, memory card doesn't fit into phone properly & now the reception is rubbish! Fair enough has been dropped once or twice but all other phones been able to withstand this! Apparently is particularly bad on 3 network. Only redeeming feature is that the camera is great! Well designed phone, & honestly I don't care about aesthetics. The last phone I had was a Sony Ericsson k800i & I thought that was bad because of its dodgy joystick & a problem it had with non reception sometimes for no reason. But that was a dream compared to the issues I am having with this phone now.

At first it was okay, the only problem was the memory card which seems to auto disconnect, meaning that things like my phone wallpaper had to be stored in phone memory, because if it was off the memory card it would disconnect & then I'd have to reselect the wallpaper every time. That was bearable, annoying but bearable.

Gradually the phone started going into reset phases. Where I would be in the middle of writing an SMS or something, & the phone would just reset completely, taking up to 2 minutes for the SIM card & phone memory to read properly again so I could access my messages. Frustrating, but still bearable.

Now for some unknown reason the phone has completely deteriorated. It turns off on its own, & I have to remove & reinsert the battery to get it going again. I have to do this if it's idle for more than 10 minutes, or just after EVERY call I make with it. The phone stalls when I type messages, on almost every second or third keystroke. & the battery seems to drain at unimaginably fast rates. I am dearly hoping the software update or the Nokia shop can fix this, otherwise its back to the old Sony Ericsson, & me avoiding Nokia's for life.

My girlfriend has owned this model for the last 6 months now, with no problems whatsoever & I've just got myself one too after having had enough of a Samsung U900 (Now that is a bad phone, if you want something to complain about! ) My girlfriend throws her 6500 Slide into her handbag with no protective case & it barely has a mark or scratch anywhere! Six defective Nokia 6500's in a row? Hmmm! You've got to wonder, haven't you? A Nokia that dies after being dropped 5 months previously. What do you expect? the size & thickness of the copper tracks on the PCB's printed circuit boards should tell you something & that is that they aren't going to be bullet proof!

I am taking it back to the shop I got it from & am refusing to take anything other than what I want to hear from them.

However up until today I haven't had a single problem no freezing, no heating up during phone calls, no battery problems nothing.

I shall however never be purchasing a Nokia phone again. I am now stuck with this phone for another 14 months until my 18 month contract runs out.

Same thing happened after 24 hours the battery dies. The phone has been mostly on standby & I have not used the camera or the radio so not sure what the problems is with this Nokia. My phone's been broken twice now.

The first time it kept freezing so I went to the store & had it checked out. The problem was old software they put the new software on & I was on my way.

The next malfunction was this morning, it had gone off by its self. Trying to put it back on, it didn't work just kept showing the Nokia emblem & then nothing. Went back to the store, explained my problem. Then the tech took a look at the phone & said it had fallen, implying that it was that that killed the phone. No it fell 5 months ago so that couldn't be it. They took a closer look at the phone & said it was the battery. It will take 9 days for my new battery to arrive. In the mean time my phone has been broken twice. I have been a customer at Nokia for 6 years now & am not planning on buying another one.

TERRIBLE! I've been trying to put up with this phone for about a year now (6 months of it it's been in repair shop). Freezes constantly, memory card won't read, Nokia techs say due to a fault in the backing which doesn't press up against memory card, apparently a known issue with the phone, Nokia's solution? They visibly dented my backing in order to push it further in where the memory card lies (seriously impairing the appearance of phone but hey at least the memory card works now! LOL) the 'scratch resistant' aluminium casing scratches incredibly easily! Reception is very very poor. Battery life is erm, POOR!

My warranty has now ran out & it decided to pack up & switch itself off for three days after which it decided to come back to life & some of the keys do not work mainly the zero key & the end call button. The camera is good but after a month it started lagging about 3 seconds behind so when I aim for a shot it takes the camera 3 seconds approx to reach where I am actually aiming.

GOOD POINTS. If anything it has helped me fully appreciate the beauty of making calls & sending texts! AS IT FEELS LIKE SUCH A BLESSING when it ACTUALLY LETS ME MAKE A CALL or send a TEXT!

Right this phone has caused me nothing but trouble my first one lasted 3 days & then malfunctioned. Then my second one has been to the repair shop twice, its software sensitive which causes problems & overall it freezes, the screen blacks out, it switches itself off & then doesn't ask for my pin when it switches back on, like I said nothing but trouble the back fell off it so it kept defaulting, if I'd abused the phone I'd understand but I haven't, I have had it a year now & I can't wait until I can upgrade my contract next week. Other people haven't had any problems but I have two which haven't worked properly so my advice would be not to get the phone & get the newer one see if that's any better.

Good points, the music sound is good & the radio isn't too bad I suppose it's easy to use its just not put together properly. Too many problems to be honest. Nokia need to start making good phones again.

I've experienced the phone shutting itself down a few times as well, but I have to admit the only real problem I have with it is the reception, & I am glad to see I am not the only person suffering from this!

I have had this phone now for 13 months of my 18 month contract & it is now getting to the point where I cannot use the phone any longer. There have been problems with the phone ever since I received it but things have got drastically worse!

It is forever freezing & it can take over 5 minutes to write a 2 line text. When I receive texts, if they are any longer than 4 lines then it will say some text missing & it can take up to 3 days for the rest of the text to come through!

The signal keeps going & it can be gone for a number of hours before it will reappear all of a sudden. There are other numerous faults with my phone. I have had more than enough conversations with 3 who have told me to update the phone, reset it etc & nothing seems to make it any better. I want to cancel my contract & go back to a trusty Sony Ericsson as this Nokia is useless. Nokia have made a big mess of this phone & 3 aren't any help at all when trying to fix problems. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Having read previous customer reviews of this phone over the last 6 months, I've been waiting for my 6500s (via O2 PAYG) to start to show some of the faults that have been described below. However, I am happy to report that apart from one unexpected reboot, my 6500s has been happily working away without a single glitch.

Design wise, this phone is nice & stylish, whilst being very solid & amazingly robust. The screen is easily cleaned, & to date is totally scratch free. The keypad can sometimes be a bit fiddly, but once you get used to the travel of the keys, this issue becomes less noticeable. Some may feel that the weight of the handset may be a bit too heavy, but personally I like it that way.

Inside, the software is easy to get used to, although I am not totally happy with the way it requires you to move files from folder to folder. Still, this is really just a minor niggle, & otherwise navigation around the apps is easy & quick enough. I did have a few problems configuring the preloaded Opera Mini, but a search of a couple of forums soon provided the answer. I hope O2 will take this into account, as Opera provides a very nice platform for full fat Internet access. The supplied software for connecting the handset to a PC is simple & effective enough, although it's just as easy to drag & drop if required.

One piece of advice when upgrading the phone's firmware, backup before you start! The download process does include this as part of the procedure, but I prefer to do this myself before starting. It's a bit of a pain having to restore files & settings once the upgrade is complete, but it's no different from when you upgrade your PC's OS.

Hardware wise, there have been no problems with the supplied 256MB memory card, although I could foresee problems with the card bay if you were to constantly swap out cards, as the locking device is a tad flimsy. Best to install the size of card required & stick with it I feel. The battery gives a decent standby life & even though I also play music files & radio through it each day for at least 3 hours, as well as the usual voice & data calls made, I can still stretch the time between recharges from between 2 to 3 days. Not bad really.

The supplied headphones are a disappointment, falling apart very quickly, but an investment of £10 to £15 buys you a better quality pair along with the required adaptor.

After 6 months of constant use, including recent freezing mornings at the train station, my 6500s has given a very consistent performance. I've had none of the call drop offs others have reported, no significant freezes, & as mentioned only the one re-boot. Additionally, I have had no problems with signal strength, indeed it's one of the better handsets I've had for this (albeit one of only 5 I've ever owned). & EGPRS access is more than acceptable, only very occasionally loosing connection.

So I am slightly surprised at all the negative reviews below. Some might suggest that I've been lucky, but I suspect that the problems lie elsewhere. Maybe it's the firmware loaded by providers on contract phones causing the issues (a theory that does have some support by the way), or possibly user error that's causing so many people to be unhappy with the 6500 slide.

All in all, this is a very good handset & I for one am very happy with it. If you're not afraid to occasionally follow the advice in the manual to maintain optimal performance, then this one may be worth a look!

After reading all the reviews on here I am really quite surprised that people are actually enjoying this phone!

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice phone, plenty of memory & features but it seems that with most 6500 slide owners the joy of owning one disappears pretty quickly. Mine was great for about 3 months & I was pre warned how useless they were but didn't believe!
further down the line my phone is constantly freezing (for a couple of hours at least at a time) if the battery dies before I start to charge it up it takes half an hour to restore its memory details etc so it won't let me use it, then yesterday after crashing on me again & freezing it has decided to start working again but without a backlight, hence now I can't see sod all when I am trying to use it. I have had plenty of Nokia's in the past & this is the worst yet! Very irritating, just wait till it happens to you when your car has broke down in the middle of nowhere, total rubbish, if you buy good luck but I am sure as hell going to get a replacement, back to Samsung I go!

The N Series was known for its problems but I was able to live with those. The 6500s is by far a phone that is only really worthy as a door wedge! (just).

Constant freezing was the biggest problem but as a single parent (dad), contact with the school is paramount in an emergency! Partner having breast cancer & the hosp not being able to contact me on many occasions really is not acceptable Nokia!

I have had all the usual problems as you have all mentioned.

Ended up buying a cheap Siemens phone (£10 from Super Drug) & it does what it says on box with a signal to match anything out there.

Too much technology goes into these things now a day's & reliability is suffering. Always carry my back up phone with me but that is defeating the object of the exercise. Nokia destined for the bin.

This is honestly the most useless phone I have ever had the misfortune to own. Within two months, it had become completely unusable. It has wiped my contacts twice now, it deleted my photos once, it crashes all the time. I can't make a phone call longer than 5 minutes. Sometimes, I can't make phone calls at all. At other times, I don't receive texts that I know have been sent. It texts me every 10 minutes to say that I have a new voicemail & when I go to check, I am told that I have no such thing. It switches itself on & off apparently whenever it feels like it. I know I do not just have a faulty phone as I know several other people who have had exactly the same problems with it. Good looking phone & easy to use so I advised my girlfriend to get it. After a week the screen would go black & go upside down, the phone would switch off, lose applications & then make really high pitched sound as if it was getting hot. She got it replaced & doesn't seem to have a problem with the new one. I then decided to get one also because really liked the 6300 which had the same applications but was not available on Three 2 weeks later, I am now getting problems. Wallpapers won't save, it can't find the memory card on occasions, screen dies then comes back, resets itself to Nokia default after a few hrs once you've set up your ring tones. I bought Nokia 6500 slider from a mobile store in Trivandrum, Kerala, India on 05.06.2008. I am very sorry to say that I have only had problems from the day I bought the handset. The problem was, Network goes off automatically & does not come back. Practically I used to be Not reachable most of the time. I gave the mobile to Nokia service centre at least five times. They would return back the mobile claiming the fault had been corrected, but again the same problem would persist. In November the Nokia service Centre promised they would try to replace the handset & hence I gave My mobile with the hope that they would do the needful. In the meantime I bought a new mobile, as otherwise it was affecting my work. Today (24.01.2009) I got back my mobile, but I was surprised to see that they have again given me back the Very same old mobile.

I also came to know from many other people that this model has a lot of defects. It is very surprising that Nokia did not even have the courtesy to replace me a new mobile instead of the defective one. If no action is taken in this regard I will lodge a complaint the Consumer Court.

What a load of rubbish, seriously the settings revert back to the Nokia standard settings through their own will unless all the tunes & pictures you like to use are stored in the phones memory itself.

It freezes at will & when it suddenly gets life again its gone all the way back to the home page. Great, just what you need when you want to watch back a video.

Mine actually has a spotty rash appeared on the screen now, not sure what its caught but over night the rash has turned into nice effective little lines therefore making seeing what you're doing difficult. It's going back to the shop tomorrow thank goodness!

Battery life is absolutely terrible, lasts all of a day if you use it frequently, my mum has already got a new handset due to this problem.

I WOULD NOT recommend, if you read these reviews then please take note!

Just wanted to say thanks to Sarah of Chorley.

My problem was exactly the same. May sound silly compared to others who seem to be getting more serious problems with their phones. But this is really annoying when the phone keeps resetting to default. Mine does it every time its been switched off.

But I'll try the remedy of saving the tones & wallpapers to my phone instead of memory card & see if that works.

Overall I've been happy with this phone I've had it for six months now without any major problems. However I think when my contract is up in July I may try a different make. I am into my 13th month with this phone &, for the first time ever, I am not entirely sure if I will bother upgrading as soon as my contract is up.

The phone looks good, feels solid &, with a 4GB SSD card in, has more memory than I need.

The only problem I have is that the D pad sometimes stops responding when I am navigating through the menus. This must be a software fault as the pad works perfectly when actually using any of the applications, games etc. The problem is rectified by sliding the phone open, so it's not a major issue.

I installed a software upgrade hoping to fix this, but it hasn't & I lost all my games & some of the phone's applications (like the calculator) in the process, which was annoying.

The camera is really good & I've taken a lot of really good quality pictures with it, I never bother with the digital zoom as that will always compromise the quality.

The video quality isn't too hot though, pictures look grainy & the sound is poor.

Overall, I think this is the best phone I have ever bought.

I loved this phone when received as an upgrade, sturdy phone with all the usual ease of use of Nokia phones. However after 4 months of use, I started to experience similar problems highlighted in previous reviews. The most annoying thing was that ring & message tones & wallpapers started to reset to default settings! Eventually (with help from this website & reviews) I made some basic changes to my phone, which had been suggested by another reviewer. I moved the picture & tones that I wanted to use, from the micro SD card to the phone memory. Luckily I had enough memory on the phone to do this. Since then the phone has not reset itself, touch wood!

Hope this helps other users.

Overall I do like this phone, but the problems I have experienced is putting me off choosing another Nokia phone.

I was aware of the reliability difficulties some people have had with this phone but being a Nokia fan I decided to give the phone a go. I've used it extensively for 2 weeks. It is mostly good, although I get a better signal on my very old Nokia 6230i. Battery life is okay, but again not as good as my old 6230i. I have experienced some occasional freezing in various applications, but if I wait a couple of seconds, this seems to free up & the phone works fine again. I am not overly happy with the hands-free speaker quality, & a normal headphone connection rather than the small pin would have been better, but these are minor points. The number 6 key stuck a little to begin with, but with use this has now resolved. I am happier with this phone than the Nokia 6300 (which I had previously & found very unreliable, even after having 4 exchanges! ), but if I could get a new 6230i I'd pick this any day. On the whole the 6500 is reliable, looks fabulous, is easy to use & has a lot of features.

Had it for nearly a year on Orange & very few problems. Like most small phones the signal goes off deep into supermarkets & outside urban areas, the main annoyances are.

- the USB data cable does not charge battery like 6500 Classic.
- Cheapo USB charger adapters (as if charging by mains) don't seem to work (unlike 6300), if need one buy a Nokia.
- I sometimes charge using mains on trains, for some reason the music player/radio headset (use Nokia supplied with phone) settings are disabled when charging, music & radio plays to speaker, not welcome in the quiet coach!
- the Nokia headset earpieces fall apart easily, stock up with foam earpiece covers from Maplin to stop falling apart.
- the Nokia headset does not have its own volume control.

But camera is fantastic & can connect to laptop for data transfer without having to install & Nokia suite.

Battery is also good provided you follow instructions & don't trickle charge.

Apologies to all those who are not as pleased as me!

I've had this phone for almost a year, I've had Nokia's for years & have seldom had any issues. Until this one. I spend most of the working day on this phone, my average monthly bill is circa £400 so there's a clue as to how well I know this product. As with most of the other reviews my phone too has suffered from the dreaded software problems, & infuriating hardware issues where the mini SD card doesn't pick up & you lose information & images etc. The phone often drops calls & freezes whilst typing text messages. The overall design of the phone is great, it is bulky & does weigh a lot compared to many rival manufactures however I've dropped it many times & although it tends to explode into 3 pieces it usually fits back together again & works. Sort of.

If you're looking to buy this phone as a business phone then really don't bother, the battery life is awful & the constant freezing of applications, dropping of calls etc is so infuriating. If you use Bluetooth as a hands-free connection then battery life is shortened even more to the point where mine is constantly charging on my desk & in my cars. I have a blackberry curve 8200 & a Nokia 6300 in addition to the 6500 & have (now that this one is up for an upgrade) decided to go with Blackberry & their new 8900 Curve in replacement for this heap.

Nokia have really let themselves down with this one, back to the drawing board chaps, bring back the 6210!

Oh, & the software upgrades through the PC suite really don't fix the issues.

Good camera though, amazing quality images from a phone but I didn't want another digital camera. I just want a phone that works.

I got my 6500 slide in March 2008 on recommendation from Phones 4 you. I liked the look of the phone, the feel of the slide & what it did other than the music player format which I found clumsy & slow to navigate around. Problems started when the ear speaker became un useable a few weeks after so it was fixed by 3 at no cost. Also I was never happy with the battery having been used to a Sony Ericsson W850i, which I could listen to music on & make calls & never worry about running flat. Then gradually the usual problems with loss of wallpapers, ringtones & themes started swiftly followed by another ear speaker failure at an awkward moment. In August 2008 I took the phone for repair at a Nokia care centre on recommendation by 3 where they replaced the speaker & upgraded the software, with assurance that this would resolve my battery & setting problems. Not bad until recently when all the setting problems returned & continual crashing during use along with random loss of signal. All this left me with a 6 hour standby battery life. Also the slide sticks & won't open making day to day use that little bit less fun! So it's currently back with Nokia care or more new software.

Overall the 6500 slide is just not desirable enough to make you want to put up with the problems so I really would not recommend one.

I must admit that this phone has been driving me nuts! Haven't had the cutting out problem, but did have trouble with the internal speaker echoing whenever I made or received a call. Sent it back & in fairness 3 sent me a replacement phone. But then I started the incredibly annoying issue of automatically resetting to that horrible Nokia tune, & losing the wallpaper that I set. I managed a workaround for this by moving the picture file from the memory card into the directory on the phone that the settings look for (Graphics & Wallpapers) & the music file for the ring tone to Tones & Ringing tones I seem to have overcome the problem, incredibly frustrating while it lasted though. You do wonder whether it's worth it, but then when you think about the ease of use that most Nokia's have, I think that's what keeps you hooked.

I have had this phone for 9 months now. Overall I like it very much. I keep it in my pocket & don't take that much care of it.

I like.
- Camera quality (set to high settings).
- Screen.
- Slide action stays firm.
- Good Keypad.
- Bluetooth.
- Nokia simple menu system.
- Works very well as a phone.
- Battery life is 5 days (to get this you MUST charge it for 10 hours each time for the first month or so).

I dislike.
- Camera response time is slow (5 seconds to turn on, 2 to take each picture, maybe 30 seconds to change the settings to something that is better).
- Had to send it back for repair, some component blew up (However the phone was repaired & returned very swiftly for free).
- the back cover is not as firmly attached as I would like it to be, if you are rough with the phone it may break easily (this has not happened to me).
- the phone is slightly bulky

I'd say get it.

This phone is absolute garbage. Yeah it looks OK, has a decent camera etc, but there are endemic software problems that you will not be told about until you buy the phone. My handset continually freezes (a couple of times a day) & it is incredibly frustrating.

DO NOT BUY IT! DO NOT BUY IT!

I am currently arguing with my network provider about getting a new phone. They initially sent me a replacement & guess what? That one suffers from the same problems! & surprise, surprise they are dragging their feet. I wouldn't be so annoyed had this not been specifically recommended to me by their sales rep. I won't mention any names but if you mix red & yellow together you get.

Had the 6500 slide for a year now, about 4 months ago it started acting up. I.e. Freezing, resetting tones & backgrounds. I figured out that the problem on mine was caused by the memory card detection system. If yours is doing the same thing maybe this may help.

- Open the back cover, on the inside of cover itself you will notice a small flap of metal sticking out on the right hand side of the hole used for the camera lens.

- This flap corresponds with a copper connector on the left of the memory card slot in the phone.

The reason the phone freezes is because the flap & the copper connecter do not have enough contact. This may be due to the cover getting loose over time as you drop or move around with the phone.

One way to get better contact is to raise the copper connector using tweezes or a hard thin object. The other way is to squeeze the flap on the cover so it gains some length, this can be done by simply pushing the un welded side of the flap closer to the other. I recommend the second method. Please don't be too aggressive when carrying out any of these instructions as this is delicate equipment.

If this doesn't solve your problem then you'll probably have to change the phone.

I must say though I like this phone even though it has some minor hardware design flaws.

This phone looks good, has reasonable features, & when it is capable of picking up a signal is a pretty good phone.

However, for 3 customers, the latter point is particularly relevant.

I just spent close to two hours talking to 3 about the known issues with is. We got a 6500 upgrade from 3 & have discovered that the phone doesn't work anywhere around our home, or the locality of our home. We have reverted to a 4 year old 6680 from the back of our wardrobe which will show up to 4 bars of signal when the brand new 6500 shows no signal at all.

3 advised that very poor ability to get a signal is a known issue with this phone, however as we did not report it to 3 within the 14 day period they expect us to stay out the contract or pay a near £400 termination fee. (or take a much inferior phone which is the only model we are authorised to offer as a replacement). (the reason we didn't report it was that as we had been happy with our existing model we didn't swap the SIM card over straight away.)

What really bugs me is that 3 contacted us in September & spent close to an hour & the phone persuading us to upgrade to the 6500. That's five months at least after it was a known issue & being worked on by Nokia & 3. (There are posts within the Nokia Support Forums discussing the issue that go back to April at least.)

I am curious as to what progress has been made (if any) on sorting this issue out between April & September, or even now.

I also thought it may be useful for others to be aware of as it will allow them to make a more informed decision about the phone, & about 3's attitude to their customers. We have been with them for over 5 years.

At one point, when I told the manager or supervisor that I had become aware of the fact that it was an issue that was well known 5 months before 3 persuaded us to upgrade, he suggested that it was out fault for not researching the web & forums well enough, & that I should have discovered this before agreeing to take the phone.

Amazing. Be warned! Stormy.

I really only have to echo the comments that have already been said. The design of the 6500S is very good, quite heavy, which I like, nice sliding function & general good looks.

It has all the features that you need, but they just either don't work right, or stop completely.

I had mine for 3 months, until it started playing up. Firstly, it resets your ringtones & backgrounds. Then it began freezing randomly, or the screen going all white, which means I had to reset it. I finally got rid of it when it kept forgetting the memory card & sometimes even the SIM card. I have a ROKR E8 now, let's see how that goes.

Overall, this phone has some serious software & design faults, which have to be addressed by Nokia. It's a shame, because this handset does look the business, but just don't work!

I got this phone because it looked like it would do the business. Why know, its big its metal & it's a Nokia. Last time I had a Nokia it was extremely reliable. This is not.

- the phone turns itself off & on at will all day long.
- the phone is now extremely slow. It takes ages to open the calculator & by the time it loads up I have just about enough time to enter half the data before it switches off & then back on about 5 seconds later.
- I don't receive all phone calls. & if it doesn't ring I do not receive a missed call either. If by some miracle my phone does ring, just as I am getting into deep conversation my phone will turn itself off & return to the home screen.
- I do not receive text messages & for 95% of the day am unable to send any either. I cannot even look at or delete old messages. On the off chance that my phone will let me in to write a text message, it will let me write 2 lines before, you guessed it, turning off & then back on to the home screen!

DISGRACEFUL, I will never buy a Nokia again!

I was attracted to this phone mainly due to its robust stainless steel case, plastic phone covers look great for about 2 weeks but this phone still looks new after 4 months.

That's the good news, first it started to freeze, then over heat during calls, but the most annoying problem which I can't figure out is if I remove the back to clean it, the phone doesn't recognise the memory card!

It will then reset to default settings, wallpaper, ring tone, etc. Which is really annoying.

Never frozen, cut out, overheated, nothing.

I feel that a lot of the problems seem to be dependent on your supplier & what software they put on the phone. I am with T mobile, & they claim that a lot of Nokia's testing of this model was done through their network.

I have had the phone since March, but I suspect that the slider may not last the 18 months of the contract. Otherwise, all good.

My second phone failure & my second negative review. I've had the handset two months now, relatively fault free after the initial software failure on the third day. Yes, there's the odd screen flicker & stray white line but it's always useable. At least it was. Last Wednesday, sat at my desk, I sent a text message to a friend then put the phone down. Not two minutes later I got a reply, I picked up the phone, slid it open & the screen has cracked from top to bottom & is now un useable. Nightmare. Spoke to Nokia who said Nokia's warranty does not cover physical damage & you will be liable for the cost of any & all repairs reference this fault, what an amazing get out clause. Nice one Nokia, I am amazed other mass manufacturers haven't had the same fantastic idea when it comes to shafting their customers. My first Nokia for 10 years & most definitely my last. Had this phone 2 weeks & sent it back.

The signal is terrible, all calls last about 30 seconds before cutting off (no matter where in the country you are) the reception bars just disappear. (I didn't have any problems on my old Ericsson, which I have reverted back to.

Another problem is the camera button is impossible to press unless you are the world's strongest man. You have to press it so hard that you end up shaking & the picture is blurred.

The final problem is this high pitched sound the phone gives off at the back of the handset (It's like one of those mosquito alarms they use to scare off the naughty kids from corner shops).

Design wise the metal casing looks good, but the phones design is very dated. It's the same as the 6280 but with a silver fascia.

I would NOT recommend this, even as a free phone.

It was in my pocket, in the same way as all the other various phones that I have owned in the last 9 years, I took it out & the screen was unreadable. There is no external damage, & a local phone repair shop commented that the crack appears to emerge from below the screen I.e. Not from a specific pressure point on the screen.

I've seen phones (including other Nokia's) exposed to much greater traumas than sitting in my pocket & none of these suffered cracked screens.

Do not buy this phone, until they admit the design fault you'll be in for some hefty repair bills.

I've also had this phone replaced & repaired since I've had it but now I've had enough & want an exchange. It's certainly within consumer rights to change this phone as it doesn't fulfil the consumer rights Act. Problem is, companies tend to fob you off or point blank won't help. I bought this phone with trepidation having read the poor reviews here but I've owned it for about 8 weeks now & so far touch wood I've had no problems. The battery life is really no problem for me, I charged the phone on 3 days ago & have made about 40 minutes worth of calls & sent about 20 texts, plus surfed the web & used the phone as an alarm clock & it's only lost one bar of battery. I generally charge it every 3 to 4 days. Sometimes there's a bit of garbled interference during phone conversations, but I also had that on my old Nokia on the same provider, so I assume it's more likely to be poor signal than the phone.

A couple of times the buttons have been unresponsive for a few seconds, but it's not a major problem & the rest of the phone is stylish, easy to use & works very well indeed so far.

Gee, I have just read your review & I agree, word for word, with everything you say. I have had real difficulties with the 6500 slide. Sometimes I can't access message folders, the phone is constantly switching itself on & off, & I receive a text about once every 30 minutes to say I have a voicemail (even though the voicemail folder is empty). As for 3 their comically titled help & support is as ironic as it is infuriating.

Don't even take this phone if you are given it for free! It is absolutely terrible, I have had similar problems to those listed on this site. Cannot believe Nokia have not recalled this phone given the thousands of dissatisfied customers. I am on the 3 network & they have been extremely unhelpful & have informed me that they have replaced 40,000 of these handsets because of the problems, unbelievable! I have had nothing but Nokia handsets for the past 10 years & have always been happy with them but can't believe how much they have messed up on the 6500 slide. Nokia & 3 have a lot to answer for.

What a waste of time it was getting this phone.

It was OK for the first few days, till I started to notice that the memory card kept getting disconnected. Now after a few months, the phone turns of when ever it feels like, freezes at all times & I never recieves my messages. Then when I do, I get 3 copy messages.

Also, the music changes when ever it feels like it & I can no be on my phone for longer than 2 minutes before I goes dead. When I do manage to stay on the phone, I can't put the phone down & have to take the battery out. How much hassel!

3 have sent it off for repair. But guess what still not fixed. They tried to back up my files, so they could send it away again. But got so annoyed with it freexing & turning off that they have agreed to a new phone for me. Shame they didn't do this before they sent it away & I was with out a phone for a week!

My version of this phone is fine!

I haven't had the problems that the rest of you have had apart from the phone resetting itself but if you put your wallpapers etc. On the phone memory it's fine.

The features are really good but the phone itself is quite heavy because of the outside casing but I've dropped this phone a million times & the casing is still not scratched!

I am guessing most of you got your phones from the shop but my dad got mine of some website & it has had no problems.

Good phone but beware there are some faulty versions out there!

I bought this phone as recommended by the guy at the Orange shop. I've had 3 Nokia's before & they were definitely the best phones ever! They were so reliable & even after smashing to bits on the pavement when dropped one of mine once it still worked perfectly with a bit of cello tape.

But this time I am starting to regret my decision. Within a day of having this phone it started to flicker & freeze.

Now after a month it has started turning itself off & on again. I can see I am going to have fun with this one! I wait in anticipation to see what is going to go wrong next.

The phone is an utter joke to be quite honest. Since I bought it, it has frozen countless times & when using software via my computer, the phone most of the time won't perform the operations I intend it to do.

I am currently tied in to an 18 month contract with 3, so I don't have a choice but to continue using it. At one point the whole handset froze & it wouldn't turn on & it then got sent in for repair, within a week of it being returned the same problem occurred again.

Since then I've been given a new one but that is already freezing. The phone is by far the worst I've ever had.

I am currently on the phone with 3 trying to have my handset replaced by a different model, as I am tired of having the 6500 slide replaced by the same model & it having the exact same problems.

Success! After much discussion I have finally been granted an exchange for a different model phone (which won't include the charger or battery, so I have to pay for that myself! Pathetic really).

Nokia has really let itself down with this one.

True this phone does look quite good & has a nice feel to it. However I am on my second 6500 slide within 7 months because of freezes, crashes & random reboots. So to answer the reviewer who recommends that we look after our phones, I do agree, but my phone has not been dropped, left charging overnight, nor indeed taken swimming, surfing, or scuba diving with me :-). It just happens to be bad in the software reliability department. The dodgy charger issue is also true for the 6500 classic. If it didn't keep playing up I'd love this phone & stick with it. To be honest I am glad I stuck to my ancient 12 month contract.

It's a really well designed phone, & it has all the best features. But in terms of usability it's a disaster. I would certainly not have got this phone if I'd realised, & I won't bother with Nokia again. The phone freezes all the time, but more annoying it won't charge! When I plug the charger in the phone doesn't recognise it or only recognises it for a few seconds. For some reason Nokia have made their chargers so small they are really temperamental & bend easily. I took the phone back to Nokia immediately & they said it was a common problem with the phone, they gave me a new charger but it had the same problems. When I tried to take this one back I was told I needed to wait to return it to the shop I bought it from (not easy when you're a student living away from home! ). When I eventually returned it, the phone was past its one month mark, so they refused to do anything about it. I now use my old phone. This phone is a waste of money.

I read all the reviews the only reason your phone don't work is because how you take care of it.

If you don't over charge your battery it will work properly, & if you listen to music, call, go on applications & use all the stuff in the phone for long all day long the battery runs out quickly.

Learn how to take care of the phone understand all the features learn how to use it then it won't get damaged.

Great looking phone, but don't be fooled. It's nowhere near as good as it looks. I've never had anything other than Nokia phones, & this is the worst I've had. Bring back the 6600 that was an incredible handset.

Anyway, my first 6500 Slide lasted about a week. It suffered from all the same problems mentioned here. It locked up, it cut off mid call (usually rebooted in the process), it stopped charging, the display corrupted randomly. I took it to the nominated repair place, & after a week they said it was so bad it had to go back to Nokia for analysis. Just over three weeks later, I got a new one back, which thankfully has behaved itself.

The only enduring problem is that the reception is useless on a regular basis. I'd be better off sticking my finger in the air. I have almost no reception at home, an area which 3 claim has full coverage. I get none at work unless I stand in certain places outside (& then its pot luck). Although that is the middle of nowhere, other people get a better signal.

I don't know if it's just this phone, if it's just 3 network or if it's a combination of the two. Whichever, I'd buy a different phone if I were you.

I can identify with every previous review, it freezes, goes back to its original settings, cuts me off halfway through a phone call. Friends of mine moan at me because I never text them back, that is because their texts have never reached me, phone is switched on but if a friend phones me it goes straight to voicemail. I am constantly recharging the battery. After 2 weeks of being at the Nokia repair shop, they swore blind they had repaired it but NO. 3 guaranteed they could repair it but alas NO. No after care, so will be avoiding them, can't really get anywhere, so once 18 month contract up, obviously won't be staying with them & will be very wary of Nokia in future.

This phone will annoy you more than anything. I upgraded to the newer model after chronic problems with the first one (not charging, turning off, short battery life). After a couple of weeks it just started crashing, took ages to get access to the memory card, kept getting voicemail messages (when I had none) & just resetting all the time.

I downloaded & upgraded the phone to the new software which stopped the problem, for a few weeks. It's started doing it again & now I've got a rusty hatchet & looking for the designer. My girlfriend got one of these too, & just to show it wasn't just me, exactly the same things are happening to her. Now all our conversations end after 2 minutes because this telephone finds it difficult to do the job it was built for.

This phone is sold with old software!

I've had mine just over 2 weeks & the battery was running out, constantly having to charge it, it switched itself off & I lost my screensaver & wallpaper.

I've had a Nokia 6280 for 18 months & had virtually no problems with it compared to this one.

I rang 3 to complain about the battery & was told that the phone had been sold to me with the old software in it!

Apparently they are still sending them out with the old software. If you check your phone by pressing STAR HASH 0000 followed by HASH it will show your current software version. If it reads v.04 it has the old software as it should read v08.30.

I was advised by 3 that I can download the latest software from their website & that it would only take 30 minutes, mine took 1 hour 20 minutes but this may vary according to your PC & network.

I did mine today & the battery hasn't run down so far so maybe it has helped. However these phones SHOULD NOT be sold with the old software so beware!

- When you're listening to music when you move the phone ever so slightly it comes up UNKNOWN TRACK.

That's interesting as having Bluetoothed it just 60 Mb of data, it believes it is totally full, so no the camera is redundant! What is the point? Fortunately Orange, when you do get through to them, are pretty good & reasonable. Full marks orange. I got my Nokia on contract within 6 days it over heated & turned itself off & would not turn on again.

I got a replacement that took 1 month to be sent to me & a charger in 2 bits with blue tape holding it together. Phone went to 12 different people at Nokia to be fixed.

When I got it back the phones screen kept going white & blank over heated & died, they also put a silver back on it which my phone was black. They don't come in mixed colours silver or black.

Phone sent back again, which took another month to be fixed, they decided they couldn't fix it so they sent me another Nokia 6500 second hand replacement phone with no back & the same charger with blue tape.

This got sent back, it took 2 weeks & they sent it back to me with a black back which didn't fit & there is a gap down the side & this one is starting to freeze & turning its self off.

So it will be going back again soon. But I still have to pay the phone bill when I haven't even got the phone. Each time I got the phone back it had a list of who the phone went to get repaired.

Over all it went to 36 different staff at Nokia & no one could fix it. I am now stuck in a 18 month contract I can't get out off.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE, please if you have this phone do not leave on charge over night as mine overheated that much I couldn't pick it up. If it was left on a chair or sofa it would have burnt it, what is Nokia playing at? How can they get away with it? I will never get a Nokia again.

Hi, had this phone for a month now on an 18 month contract with T Mobile. On the upside, it looks good & feels solid, it has a nice large, bright clear screen & comes with all the features you'd expect on a fairly modern phone, the camera is also excellent.

HOWEVER!

- the battery life is appalling. Expect to have to recharge every day if you make a few calls a day. If you only use it for a couple of short calls & a few texts each day you might get 2 days use. Even if you don't touch the thing & leave it on standby it will only last 3 days.

- Bad Bad Bad reception. The signal seems to jump all over the place, from four bars to zero & therefore cutting you off. THIS HAPPENS REGULARLY, regardless of my location. I've so far failed to complete a single conversation where I haven't been cut off. Since calling people is the primary purpose of a phone & the Nokia 6500 slide isn't very good at this, I can only rate this phone poor.

The PHONE STARTS OFF WITH A FEW BASIC FAULTS & GETS WORSE. The MOST LAUGHABLE POINT, YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE the BACK OF the PHONE TOGETHER TO GET the MEMORY CARD TO WORK. Awful PLEASE DO NOT BUY ONE.

Had this phone for some time & it's the best but you have got to ensure that the back fits properly! As a previous reviewer (Chris July 31) said if you have got a gap down one side take the back off curve it slightly until the gap is closed. It seems to me that some people need to take more care of their phone it is not a toy!

This is a generally nice phone, with 3.2 Megapixels camera with dual LED which is bright enough to light up a room temporary, the user interface is simple, as with many Nokia models, have quite a fair bit of hot keys, it had also nice graphics & the included games are cool & fun too, ranging from IQ types such as High roller Casino to adventure types such as Snake 3, the applications are also cool except data wasting & the generally appearance is good also.

However, there are flaws to this phone too.

- the screen is very fragile & prone to cracks & the entire body is scratched after some time.

- Media player tends to go white when some button is pressed & it restarts the phone, it is not a big problem as you could access the video after 10 seconds.

- Lock buttons tend to hang but restarting the phone helps a lot.

Overall it is worth purchasing this phone but a N73 maybe better to some.

What is the point of this phone Nokia? I Have had this phone for two months, it has frozen several times, cut off calls, keypad buttons do not always respond, battery life is poor (not very energy efficient having to recharge your phone every 2 to 3 days) I sent this phone back & it was returned with a new problem, calls sounded like they were in a tin can full of hissing cats, so back again my phone is sent.

So Nokia, with all the poor reviews on this phone, do the honourable thing to the people that are being loyal to your brand, give everyone a replacement with one that works properly.

I've had this phone for four months. After 2 months it started freezing, switching itself off midway phone calls & the battery was lasting about an hour. I had to get a part for it. & that was when it was only 2 months old. Even now, 2 months on, random contacts seem to delete themselves & sometimes the keys are still unresponsive.

It's a nice looking phone & a good design. But this is the phone that has made me wary of all Nokia's from now on & this I never thought I'd say. I'll consider very carefully before buying another Nokia.

This phone is great it's so easy to use. The music player is amazing as the speaker is very loud. This phone is a little heavy but it is stainless steel. The reason why the phone changes back to the Nokia tune is when it gets knocked or dropped. When you drop it it wobbles out of place. The battery could be better too.

My 6500 slide in silver has just DIED after only four months! It started to freeze & power off occasionally a few weeks ago, then it was fine again, beware this could be a sign! No way of getting the phone book backed up now, never mind anything else. A replacement is due tomorrow from Orange, but this doesn't help someone that needs a reliable working phone to do their job. I can't recommend this phone. Great looks & appears to be robust, but who can afford to be left without such an important tool of their trade in business? At first I loved this phone. Then my phone, started going wrong by reverting back to the Nokia ringtone, which was very annoying. Then my mute (silent) button stopped working. Then the screen started going blank (white) halfway through texting, this was the last straw as I only had the phone 6 weeks. I know about 5 other people with this phone & they have all had the same problems.

This phone constantly reverts to the Nokia ringtone which is really frustrating. This phone itself might be particularly faulty as it does not always show the memory card facility I inserted without constant fiddling with the phone. Then it saves pictures to the phone memory which have to be manually moved to the memory card. Annoying & time consuming, as this quickly fills the phone memory up. Too easy to switch to other facilities when using in normal phone mode. Sometimes find hard to switch to video mode hence lots of videos not recorded. Gets slow when text messaging, text slow to catch up, hence lots of spelling mistakes, particularly if a lot of incoming & outgoing messages stored. Seem to need to charge it every other day too. All in all, not great at all.

I loved this phone when I first got it & it's still a great looking phone. However, I am now experiencing most of the problems that everyone else is having.

- Its slow. It can't keep up with me whilst texting (I am not that quick) & so you have to constantly keep going back to correct stuff.
- You could use it to start a fire after a 10 minute call, why does it get so hot?
- It switches the camera on by itself even if it's locked.
- I've managed to sort it resetting the ringtone by moving the tone I want to the phone memory but that's not ideal either as it can use quite a bit of memory.

All in all, this has been a disappointing phone for me. I have always had Nokia's & even encouraged others to buy them. I am stuck with this till next June but I will be choosier next time & not just depend on the Nokia brand for reliability.

At first I loved this phone, I think it looks great & is really easy to use. However I am now on my second one & can't wait to change it.

My first one worked fine, except it kept switching back to the default ringtones, wallpaper etc. (TIP! I found that it will only keep an image as your wallpaper if it saved on the phone memory, if it's on a memory card it will keep changing it). Then after a couple of weeks I found that when I was making calls, after a few minutes it would cut out, & although I could hear the other person, they couldn't hear me, not a useful feature in a phone! So I sent it back to 02 who replaced it with a refurbished model.

This one didn't have any problems making calls, but again keeps defaulting back to original settings, will freeze, switch off, forget all my contact details & is generally really slow, it can't keep up when I type text messages & crashes completely.

This is the first Nokia I've ever had which has caused me trouble, I've yet to read a review where someone didn't have problems with it. I'd definitely buy another Nokia, but steer clear of this model!

I bought a slide & it will not hold its charge, despite buying a new battery. Since this is an unlocked phone, I purchased it at full price, US 700. Now the company I bought it from said they can change the motherboard but that's it. Do I have any recourse to Nokia. Looking at all the problems here, this phone should be replaced by the manufacturer or the seller free of charge if the problems continue. In fact given the problems I see here, this phone clearly was defective & was released despite this fact. Wish me luck with Axiom.

Sorry Nokia but this is the worst Nokia phone I have ever had & I have had about 10 so far. I must admit that the camera is excellent though & I do like the slide facility but I do think that Nokia are trying to put too many features on a phone without thinking about the infrastructural. The battery life is very unpredictable also.

Try again Nokia & get it right or I think you will be losing many customers through lack of the basic needs of your customers.

Well, I think it looks solid, it has a smooth slide action, & doesn't feel flimsy, cheap & plasticy like so many phones now. It's straightforward to use, & I've been pleased for the most part.

I've had mine since December 2007, Bluetooth is dodgy on mine. It doesn't always like linking up with audio devices, & has a mind of its own, & will disconnect itself from devices, if I can even link them in the first place.

It doesn't have touch sensitive keys so you do have to press them quite firmly. That said, I often pull it out of my bag & find it in camera mode. That's really the only other niggle, other than the fact it will occasionally revert to Nokia ringtone for no apparent reason (I understand downloaded ringtones should be saved to phone memory & not the memory card which alleviates the problem).

I find the battery life fine, but then I tend to charge phones most nights anyway & I use it a lot. It's never got hot & I've spent ages chatting, but then I don't have hot hands, which will warm up metal more than plastic.

If you are considering buying this phone stop, my phone is on the 3 mobile network. I have had it for 7 months, the network signal is dire. I spoke to a 3 mobile representative in Taiwan last night, I could not really understand what he was trying to say to me. I phoned to complain about the lack of coverage (first time I have managed to get through to them) they told me.

MR HUTCHINSON THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MOBILE HANDSET, Nokia CURRENTLY HAVE NO KNOWN SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. YOU MUST MOVE TO A BETTER SIGNAL AREA TO USE IT.

You can just tell that they are reading from script. I have been to Scotland & all over the UK with it with my work & it still does not work, the only time it has worked is when I went to Menorca. So I told the 3 operator that I wanted a new phone to replace this one.

MR HUTCHINSON WE CAN DO THAT FOR YOU ON THIS OCCASION WE HAVE A Nokia 6120 OR A 6500 CLASSIC TO CHOOSE FROM,

I asked him if this was equal to the same spec as my 6500 slide, he said yes. How do we go about swapping the phones then?

MR HUTCHINSON WE DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE PHONES IN STOCK & WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN WE WILL BE GETTING THEM BACK IN STOCK, PLEASE PHONE BACK AT A LATER DATE TO FIND OUT STOCK LEVELS PLEASE.

I have heard enough. Click I put down the phone.

I have found out since that the other 2 phones that he offered are not of the same spec as my 6500 slide, going into the shop today to get this sorted out, I don't care if it takes all day. So Nokia 6500 slide review, the phone is good when it works, nice solid feel to it, looks stunning.

Bad points, poor signal not even 1 bar for me just a G with a slash through it. Software problems are starting to appear now slide feature locks up the phone & it freezes. It has also stated to freeze when scrolling menus. White screen sometimes.

Overall, stunning phone let down by bad software & firmware Nokia sort it out.

P.S I was also told that part of the reason that the signal is so bad is because the Ariel is in the base of the phone & it gets obscured by your hand when you make a call.

On my second one after my first stopped working completely, crashing turning off & all the malarkey. The tones etc reset because of a small piece of metal that comes of the back plate which pushes a switch which tells the device whether the memory card is connected or not so the problems with resetting is due to lose back panels. If you want your wallpapers etc to stay the same then move the files which are employed as your ringtones, message tone etc to the phones memory & this should sort the problem.

As said I am on my second phone & it has already begun to act up, switching off randomly after about 3 weeks use, the battery is also lot better if you go into the settings & turn off the 3G reception, turn on power saver mode & put it in active standby.

Give me strength! This phone is absolute garbage. I can put up with a lot of things in life & it takes a lot for me to explode but this phone has released that in me.

Battery is nonexistent. When you've finished a call the handset is read hot even after just a couple of minutes. Constantly freezes whilst sending texts. Keypad consistently not working so cannot pick up calls or answer messages. Too many points to list to be honest.

Word of advice. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE SAVE YOUR MONEY & GO TO A PHONEBOX!

Steve Ralph, I am with you mate.

I wonder how many of the users realise the SD card fits under the metal gate to hold it in, hmmm. (This may stop the card from moving by the way).

I had this phone for 6 days with no problems at all. I've been Bluetoothing quite a lot & battery still lasted 4 days.

I had the 6280 & 6288 before this so the menu's on 6500 weren't a problem.

It makes me laugh when people say I dropped the phone & now it don't work.

This is a nice phone, good size, weight & shape & not a bad price for me as a long standing member on 3 contract, £15.00pm for 750 minutes, lovely jubbly.

I was reading the reviews but may have missed something very important. Memory cards. This seems to be a mine field. I got a Kingston 4GB SDHC but the phone says the card is not formatted & I cannot find out how to do it. I have searched the web & read tips but they do not work for me. I reinstalled the latest patch but this did not help.

Customer support (misnomer) website looking for help. A mobile phone company you cannot phone, eh. Hello. My life is too short & precious to be going through all these hoops. Venting anger here!

Design, Nice design though a bit top heavy when extended. Top keys feel a bit too far from the rest.

Features, A Coming from the 6630 Smartphone to this was like stepping back in time. Its saving features are the camera & the music player.

Usability (so low because of memory card problem).

Lack of software for the Symbian 40 OS compared to the Symbian 60 OS of the 6630 is very restrictive. I was going to use it as an MP3 player in the car but since I can't get the memory card to work its function will be as a paperweight or flog it on eBay.

Sadly this is not what I would have expected from Nokia. I have been using their phones for many years but next upgrade time I will be shopping around!

Please if you have solved the memory problem, please let me know how, thank you.

FAULTY BACK! The back didn't fit properly on mine, seems like this is a common fault & causes most of the problems people have been reporting, the loose back causes settings to be lost as the memory card disengages & also causes the phone to switch itself off as the battery is not held in place properly.

This was really annoying me so I just took the back off & gently bent the stainless steel (very slightly to account for the annoying 1mm gap on one side! ) Now it fits PERFECTLY & I am really happy with the phone. Great interface, camera is pretty decent, music player seems good too. Shouldn't really have to be bending the metal casing to get the thing to work properly & you'd expect better build quality from Nokia but honestly, if you find this problem on yours just do what I did & all the problems are solved!

The only real issue I have is the battery life, it only lasts about 48 hours on standby which is disgraceful considering Nokia state it will last 320 hours!

This is a massive problem for me as I can't always get access to mains power, which brings me onto another point, why, WHY can't you charge this phone via USB?

I've read elsewhere that changing the battery from the Li Poly to the older Li Ion is a good idea, anyone tried it?

Oh, & it does get really, REALLY hot during calls. Which is a bit worrying!

Easy to install software on PC easy to use too, love the fact that this phone actually comes with the USB lead & a RGB lead to connect to TV to look at the pictures that you've taken.

Bought this on PAYG from 3 as my previous phone on contract gave up the ghost but best £149 I've ever spent on a phone!

Nokia is so much better than any other brand (& I've had loads)!

It looks stylish with a great selection of ringtones. I LOVE Nokia 6500s!

It's got a good loudspeaker & good radio reception. SD card insertion can be very fiddly. Can only assume that people who say the back won't fit properly were those who didn't find the secret switch on top! For those whose budget won't run to a N95 this is the next best Nokia. Ignore the detractors this is a nice solid phone with a great camera.

NOW. It freezes & won't unlock (have to take battery out to restart). Always goes back to default setting GRRR to Nokia ringtone. If you bang the phone or put it down to hard the wallpaper drops & it cuts out when you're on the phone, it gets hot. Battery is rubbish will be on the phone for 15 minutes & half the battery is gone.

If you're setting is not on standby mode the battery last like 4 hours.
Sent it off twice already. Got it till next July I am not a happy customer.

OK. So I have given quite high marks for the design, features & usability & I am not lying when I marked these. Design & look is nice, you feel you have a phone in your hand & it won't break at the slightest knock! Features are fine, typical Nokia so if you have used Nokia before things don't really change a huge deal, hence the usability too, easy to use, simple Nokia menu pages. But. There's where it ends really. The battery life of this phone is terrible & extremely random. Sometimes it will go for 3 to 4 days MAXIMUM but then other times it will last half a day if I am lucky. I can have half battery life then within an hour it's dead. I am not a heavy mobile user, maybe 2 to 3 texts a day & occasional call but that's all.

But in all honesty, is any phone got great battery life anymore? I give up trying to find one! Sony Ericsson are OK but even my husband has problems with his w910i only lasting a day after a 14 hour charge switched off!

If your not bothered by charging your phone ALL the time then it's a nice phone, honestly, but if you can't be bothered to have a charger strapped to your hip 24 hours a day then I really wouldn't suggest this phone.

Well, after being on the phone to three again for the third time again today, I am quite fuming.

To begin with this phone has a NUMBER of problems.
- Screen freezes & Turns off.
- Resets.
- Crashes.
- Often says NOT ALLOWED REBOOTING when trying to play music.
- Memory card is a nightmare.
- Most of the phone is actually made out of COATED COPPER. Only the back is made out of stainless steel.
- Nothing fits properly.
- Won't access gallery.

Three have sent me to a repair shop who stated that they DO NOT repair for three & never had. Three say they do. Three won't send out a replacement or a bag to send it back to them to get it repaired. In fact, there isn't much they will do. I guess I'll have to fork out the £100 to cancel the contract.

DO NOT TOUCH THIS PHONE WITH A TEN FOOT BARGE POLE.

However, I have now started seeing the faults many others on here have had, the phone freezes occasionally, constantly defaults to the Nokia settings, most of the time after I slide it down. Also the hash key doesn't work to silence the phone, didn't really bother me as I didn't really use it, but a fault none the less. VERY frustrating & disappointing. I am now returning this phone.

It does not stop the phone looking amazing, working or anything, it is purely aesthetic & really does not matter at all. I have always had Nokia's & had no problems with them & have found this the same, the battery doesn't seem to last a great deal of time but that could be to do with the fact that I spend a lot of time playing music through its nice, loud, clear speakers. I have had the phone for two weeks now & whether it is because it is new & is therefore & updated model I do not see how anyone could express such hatred for it as seen in these exaggerated reviews. Hi, I have just brought the phone for 3 days ago but could not use it for 1 day.

Reasons & problem.

- the back cover does not fit properly. At one side it remains open for 1mm. As it have a metal body the case does not fit properly if there is a slight adjustment problem. If you try to write message fast you cannot give pressure properly.

- the main reason for this is the memory card area is not proper so the back cover does not fit properly.

- For the same reason the memory card remains loose & the phone some time does not recognize the memory card. This is why the setting changes to default.

- Not sure about the battery problem as not used it for 1 day. Sent it to dealer.

So if your lucky it is good but otherwise it is a waste of money & time.

It drops the wallpaper & screen savers all the time. Cuts out, puts itself on silent for not reason. Battery sometimes lasts a day sometimes half an hour. The replacement one I found out only has a one month warranty. Even though I had the first one for only a week. Go figure. It is as rubbish as the first.

This is the biggest pile of junk that I have ever owned. Nokia are bad for letting people buy them & then offering warranties on replacement phones. I am sure they are well aware of the pitfalls of this model.

Looks great & good features & for four days I loved it, especially the fact when someone texts it flashes up on screen who it is. Then the phone started to freeze up when I tried to connect to Internet & the final straw was in the middle of a text conversation I stopped receiving texts & although it seemed to send, people were not getting my texts. I called Orange who sent a update to the phone which sorted it for half a hour but this kept happening. I would get 5 texts at a time & hours after people sent them! Orange said the new phones often do this due to all the new fancy things on them & I should turn it off more!

I got so fed up I sent it back & now have the N82, which so far is pretty good & has a far better camera too!

Good news! For all those who have experienced the phone randomly switching from set ringtone to default, I have the solution! I was told that this model has a problem with the memory card slipping when the back of the handset is knocked SO. To stop it switching from your chosen tone to the Nokia one, save the tone you want to use as ringtone in the PHONE MEMORY & not the memory card. Problem solved!

I am about to take mine to get repaired as the phone is constantly turning itself off during calls & the signal (considering I live in the middle of London) is terrible, I have to virtually hang out of my window to make a call. To be honest, I very much doubt it will solve anything but once it's been repaired, I am going to use that as bartering with Three to let me change handset. When I asked three about the signal, I was told this model has much lower capabilities for signal than other phones, great thanks Three Mobile! Why sell it to me then!

I have had this phone 6 months now & really want to replace it due to the following problems.

- the red off button is huge & located at the bottom of the phone which means it is really difficult on 50% of occasions when it rings to extract the unit from a pocket without inadvertently switching off the call & therefore getting a missed call.

- Same problem exists with slider moving on extracting phone from pocket - it can move up & down accidentally thus switching on & off - again losing calls. This can be fixed by altering slider settings to only allow it to switch off manually (not through closing the slide)

- the ringtone randomly keeps defaulting to the Nokia tune (I have latest software update)

Shame because otherwise apart from its weight the phone has good function ability, battery life & signal strength but the first problem is causing me to miss around 50% of calls & expensively have to access voicemail.

Both my mother & I purchased this phone after recommendations from staff in 3 store, recommended for great MP3 player, memory upgrade & talk time.

Once phone arrived followed instructions & guess what it wouldn't hold a charge, I think I got 6 hours & then it went dead. Reported it to three & apparently it was because I had Bluetooth switched on. So after some negotiating they replaced the battery & charger & sent me on my way, but do not switch on Bluetooth, do not use MP3 player. Phone has also developed fault with locking itself & having to remove battery to reboot, it resets itself for no reason & all settings are factory originals, volume is really poor on loudspeaker; Bluetooth will not recognise other devices & MP3 player when it has been used, won't exit properly so still continues to play until you remove the battery.

1 week later, still no standby life on the battery, eventually got through to 3 technical help & guess what their opinion is with regard to the poor battery life, I am in a bad service area & every time the phone has to look for a stronger signal this wears out the battery! Load of rubbish as hubbie has a LG 3 payg phone & he can get up to 4-5 days without recharging. I am waiting for 3 to take the phone back for investigation & repair if required, but as far as they are concerned there is nothing wrong with the Nokia 6500 slide.

Do not buy this phone it is a real disappointment, as a diehard Nokia fan for the last 12 years that is hard to admit.

It's very nice phone, very attractive, Not very very heavy & of course very solid. But why I wouldn't choose to buy this phone is that it has very limited features, I'm unable to decorate it as Sony Ericsson (system moding) it always looks the same. There are not very big assortment of themes & other stuff for this phone. It's cool but just for month or less.

This is the worst phone I have ever owned. I lasted with it for a week before taking it back to 3 & demanding they cancel my contract. Firstly, the battery is a joke. Without use it would last a day & a half, with use, I would have to charge it every day. It seemed to drop from half capacity to nothing in the space of ten minute call, too. When it died, it did it suddenly, without warning. The handset gets incredibly hot, even after short calls. It's also really heavy. I also experienced the problem of the ringtone randomly resetting to the Nokia tone. I also had problems with reception, despite working in central west London, the reception would often drop out completely for long periods. I guess this might be a problem with 3's reception generally though. I wouldn't use half the functionality on this phone anyway, so it's a bit dumb that the 3G can't be turned off (when on a 3 contract). Guess I should have read this forum thread before going out to get a contract. I wouldn't have touched this phone with a barge pole.

No more carrying around a MP3 player or camera anymore. Impressed with the camera, however, the radio reception is not clear when on the move. No problems heating up or slider sticking. The camera is stunning.

This phone feels so solid, reassuringly heavy & sturdy. Fed up of plastic Nokia's such as N90 & N93, relief to have a small, sturdy, stainless steel (rocks) wicked Nokia.

I thoroughly recommend this to everyone (on T mobile).

HOWEVER, THIS IS A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT, ENOUGH SO I KNOW I'LL BE GETTING A Sony Ericsson In the FUTURE, AFTER MANY RECOMMENDATIONS FROM FRIENDS & GENERALLY STRONG REVIEWS.

I'VE SENT THIS HANDSET BACK TWICE ONLY TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH EACH ONE INCLUDING.

- FREEZING FREQUENTLY.
- GALLERY ACCESS FREEZES.
- MEMORY CARD DOES NOT WORK.
- BUTTONS DO NOT RESPOND.
- SHUTS ITSELF DOWN, HAVE TO REMOVE BATTERY TO START UP AGAIN.
- BATTERY LIFE VERY LOW.
- SLOW PROCESSING ACTIONS.
- DIFFICULTY ENDING CALLS AS BUTTONS DO NOT RESPOND.

This phone isn't as outstanding as people make it seem, it has its faults. The thing I don't understand is the secondary camera, you can only use it for video calls, my contract doesn't include that, people hardly video call anyway, so it's pointless to me. If you touch the right hand side of the phone carefully, you'll notice it isn't smooth it has the top part of the slider slightly sticking out.

Besides these few irritations the phone is perfectly fine to me.

I agree with the comments made by Reviewer Sam Petterson from Durham, UK. It doesn't matter how often I change the ring tone after one or two incoming calls if diverts back to the Nokia tune!

Does anyone else have the same problem as me with the key pad & directional pad, when I try to unlock the phone it takes a few attempts.

The major problem I am having at the moment is I can put my pin number in but as I have locked the keypad & know the password, when I try to put the first letter in it comes with the incorrect code. How can it be after only one letter! SO ANGRY.

This is without doubt the worst phone that I have ever had. I have had 2 of them now & the problems are exactly the same. The battery life is terrible, I barely goes 36 hours even on standby, & if I am making a call of any length I have to make sure I am by my charger so I can recharge it.

After a few hours the ringtone changes back to the standard Nokia tune, so you have to keep changing the settings back. On the first phone I couldn't get reception, but when I put the sim card back into my old trusty Sony Ericsson I had full reception. The reactions of the buttons are slow, & the favourites settings on the messages causes the entire phone to crash. The sim card is really hard to get in & out of the phone.

The volume buttons are really fiddly, & lots of the functions are tricky to use, especially sending & writing messages. Also Skype is not compatible with it, & it's really heavy. It doesn't even look nice, don't be fooled.

I would not recommend this phone to anyone, & I implore you not to put more money into Nokia's pockets by buying this awful phone.

I cannot believe how many reviews there are here that give this phone a good rating, have these people really used one every day? I had one but it broke & I managed to get a Sony Ericsson Z750i as a replacement. Up until I got the replacement I thought that the Nokia was pretty rubbish but now I know that it really is rubbish.

These are the faults that I found.
- the screen is too dim to read on a bright day outside (I live in the UK & we don't get a lot of those! ).
- the quality of the screen is inferior to the Sony Ericsson.
- the way it works is at times baffling, there are loads of settings with no explanation & menus with sub menus & then more menus.
- the PC software is riddled with bugs & seems almost as if it is a collection of parts that have been brought together from different places.
- the buttons are too small & fiddly.
- On mine the slider mechanism became slightly stiff almost as if there was dirt inside (but I have an office job & the phone was never in contact with any dirt).

Basically, I would say that if you are thinking of getting a Nokia because you have had them before & you are expecting them to be a good reliable brand then you should take a look at LG or Sony Ericsson because from what I've seen they now produce vastly superior phones.

I think this phone is great. It looks nice & is really easy to use. It's got good features & I use most of them. Good quality MP3 player & for a 3.2MP camera it is good quality. Good battery life (I only have to charge it every few days)

Julie, you can add someone to your favourites when sending a text, also contacts are easy to find in the recent recipients.

Also for someone who said they charged there battery for 12 hours. It is recommended that you don't charge it for longer than what is needed & also depending on how long you've had your phone will affect your battery life. Believe it or not but the battery life is always worse in the first few weeks then gets better until you've had it a while then the battery will go worse again.

Sorry not trying to be a know it all, its just I work at phones 4 you so I thought that might be useful information.

If you are having problems with connecting & recieving calls it is probably due to the phones inability to drop from a weak 3G signal to 2G. If you go to settings & change from dual band to GSM the phone will allow you to connect calls but obviously you cannot use 3G.

I have a 6630 & this 6500 & neither of them works properly. I have only had this problem for 3 weeks & have to assume that it's a mast problem locally as at my local phone shop it functions fine.

I have no network coverage, connection error or no hint of why it's not working but when I put the sim in my Wife's old phone its perfect.

Think twice about buying a phone to use in 3G mode if reliability is important.

A great looking phone with good features. Virtually doubles a camera when taking photos with the slider closed. Very big battery problems with short life & overheating. It seems that Nokia doesn't have a solution for this problem which I think is due to the phone constantly struggling to find & hold a network.

In the UK I haven't often had a problem making or receiving a call due to reception strength although I can see the number of signal bars varying all the time. When I tried to use it in France recently it was hopeless hunting around all the time for a network on automatic makes calls & texting impossible. On manual network selection It would take about 10 minutes to find a network (we are talking Paris here not the outback) & then only hold for about 5 minutes.

Do not buy this phone if you need it for roaming. Nokia or 3 un ably to fix problem & have replacement with a Nokia 6500 Classic or 6120 neither of which I like so I guess I will just stick with this phone despite its faults & use another abroad.

I wish Samsung would bring out a 3G version of my lovely D900.

After having the countless problems with the N-Series, I tried the Nokia 6500 slide, it was fine for a week, then I stated to have problems with trying to connect calls. Now after 2 months it hangs up for no reason, it freeze's none stop, & decides to lock itself & not allow you to unlock it, without turning it off by removing the battery, the memory card never reads anymore, I've had to cellotape it in place to try & get it to read, which is only on a rare occasion. The video recording is short. The phone decides when it wants to put a name to the incoming calls & texts, & it's painfully slow.

It's completely put me off getting another Nokia in the future, tomorrow I am going to town to sort out a new phone so I can chuck the 6500 in the road & drive over it!

I had this phone for a week before giving up on it & changing it for a Sony Ericsson K660. Here are the reasons why.

Let's get the good points out of the way first.
- Looks good.
- Menus & general phone features are easy to use.
- Large screen is great for Internet use.
- Good quality camera.

Now to the bad points.
- the battery life is AWFUL. I charged it up overnight to give it the full 12 hours. Within 12 hours the battery life was over half empty, & within 24 hours it was completely dead. This isn't because of excessive use of phone. I tried this cycle twice.
- Phone is quite heavy (I had the silver version which is heavier, I think, than the black version)
- Phone gets extremely hot when it's used, either when making phone calls or browsing the Internet & doesn't cool down for a considerable amount of time
- Phone turned itself off, which meant having to take the battery out, which re-set all settings to factory default. This happened twice which was a real pain.
- Signal kept dropping out completely (I am on 3, & even in London, which is great signal area, the signal was non-existent).
- the SIM card is extremely fiddly to fit (although this shouldn't be done that often so not a major problem) & remove. Also when removing the SIM, the same problem is encountered as noted in number 4.

It was a relief to get rid of this phone as I just didn't feel it was reliable, & I wasn't convinced that it would be working correctly if I needed to use it in an emergency. The K660 seems a much better phone for me, & is also free on the contract I am on.

I HAVE BOUGHT ONE OF THESE PHONES & HAVE HAS IT FOR JUST OVER A MONTH & IT HAS CAUSED ME NOTHING BUT TROUBLE IT HAS BROKEN 4 TIMES IN ONE MONTH & I HAVE HAS TO REPLACE the HANDSET.

I am NOT SAYING don't BUY ONE BECAUSE IT IS JUST MY BAD LUCK TO GET ONE LIKE THAT, IF YOU DO BUY ONE I THINK YOU WILL BE VERY IMPRESSED WITH IT. The MUSIC VOLUME IS VERY LOUD, LOUDER THAN MY FRIENDS Sony Walkman PHONE & the QUALITY OF SOUND IS VERY GOOD. The BIG SCREEN IS AMAZING THERE ARE SO MANY COLOURS & the ICONS & THAT LOOK VERY NICE INDEED.

THERE ARE SOME DOWNSIDES LIKE the VIDEO CAMERA, ON THAT YOU CAN RECORD FOR A VERY LONG TIME IF YOU CHANGE the LENGTH BUT the QUALITY OF the VIDEO IS APPAULING & I WOULD NOT recommend THIS PHONE FOR A A VIDEO CAMERA. BUT TAKING STILL IMAGES (PHOTOS) the QUALITY OF THEM IS TRULY OUTSTANDING, the QUALITY OF the IMAGES ARE BETTER THAN MY FREINDS CYBERSHOT & I WOULD recommend IT FOR IMAGES BUT NOT FOR VIDEOS.

TEXTING IS EASY TO DO BUT YOU HAVE TO GET USED TO the BUTTONS FIRST. & SENDING A PICTURE IS VERY EASY, YOU JUST PRESS the MIDDLE BUTTON AFTER YOU HAVE TAKE A PICTURE & THERE you GO, SELECT WHO you WANT TO SEND IT TO & THATS IT.

OVERALL THIS IS A GREAT PHONE & I WOULD recommend IT TO ANYBODY, IF you SHOP AROUND YOU CAN GET IT FOR £150 NOT £170, See YOU.

I bought this after returning my Samsung Soul due to diabolical call & speaker volume & quality. This is what I can say after having it for 1 week.

Good Points. Typical logical Nokia menu layout. Menus & folders & pretty much everything else is moveable & customisable (typical Nokia style). Nice weight in the hand. Sensible memory card location (in my opinion at least) behind battery, recently had a memory card slot style mechanism fail in a Samsung Phone (not the Soul). Good call & ring tone volume (although anything seems good after the Soul!). Camera seems pretty decent, megapixels don't count for anything, it's the sensor that counts.

Bad Points. Too many house & dance style ringtones, how about some useable ones? Have read about this on numerous occasions & I can confirm that somehow the slide mechanism does start to scratch the keys & this is after only 1 week. Not the best quality speaker for playing music out loud (although I don't tend to do it, thought it was worth mentioning). Display items look a bit chunky & low resolution. The screen seems to blackout quickly on occasions, which is not really acceptable, but I haven't suffered any of the other faults mentioned by others, as of yet. & finally, although it might not be a bad point for everybody, the phone just seems to be lacking in imagination or spirit, found in SE's & Samsungs, the themes & wallpapers are pretty dull too.

So, to sum up, it seems to be a pretty solid & straight laced phone, if a little unimaginative, with the odd software problem?

I've had this phone for about six months now & what an unforgettable experience. My angry response to the customer service satisfaction question has not changed one bit. Initially the phone had all the problems listed by others, updating software helped somewhat.

My phone is relatively stable at present. I have given up using the Internet, it's too cumbersome & doesn't work. I cannot connect to my computer (the handset says I am not connected) although apparently I am (sometimes). Bluetooth is a joke.

I left my phone with customer services on two occasions. They couldn't update the software, although it was available on the net. All they achieved was to set the phone back to factory default losing all the information & settings etc.

With the handset locked, picking up the phone other than with kid gloves will result in losing the call. It's impossible to carry the phone loose in your pocket without some malfunction. Even taking it out of a Nokia pouch on my belt requires the utmost care not to move the slide even a fraction to lose the call.

My response to Nokia was that I was appalled that a Company with all their resources & dominance of the Market, should allow the release of an unproven unreliable inferior product to an unsuspecting public, then to admit to their failure by having to provide continuous updates to patch up a very costly mistake.

DO NOT BUY Nokia if I hadn't paid so much for it, it would have been consigned to the bin, & the temptation to hurl it away as far as possible when it malfunctions, is ever present.

It is a good looking phone although its' a bit large. The graphics are real nice.

Camera (with flash) & video recorder are really good. But I am sending mine back after just a week because it's a heavy phone. The battery life is short. Although it is nice for texting & music player.

Well as you can I see I love the phone to bits but there is so many problems with it, I am on my second one & I am changing over to LG in a couple of weeks. The battery life is fair if you run the battery into the ground a couple of times it makes the battery use its full potential. Easy to text when you get used to the smaller buttons.

Problems, the phone cuts out sometimes when writing a text & then comes back on, it freezes a lot, if you knock the back cover (which doesn't fit properly) it resets every setting back to the Nokia Default settings & it blanks out & won't turn on you have to reinsert the battery.

I love the phone its self it's just that Nokia really haven't tested it for long enough to see if the phone is working as it should.

I've had this phone 5 months now & have not experienced any of the problems other reviewers have mentioned. Only problems I encountered were actually service provider issues (3), these were sorted by ringing the customer support line.

Phone is a little fiddly when you want to open the slide, but the rubber strip is fitted to make it a bit easier. The buttons are a decent size, even for people like me with big fingers.

A great feeling phone if you are fed up with the plastic feel of other phones & that was a feature I liked about it. Do miss the ability to just turn on a light either on video mode or as a handy torch, but hey, it's a phone & not a torch!

Great phone, would have preferred the black version though.

Reason I put 5% for usability is that I have had mine for approximately a month & I cannot use it as it refuses to let me call out or anyone else call in! Hence, I am missing important calls & paying for a contract I cannot even use. I have had nothing but problems with this phone, the settings reset themselves after a day, one side of the back lifts up & the sound is poor with a hissing on the line & a very quiet tone. Sometimes it will suddenly turn itself up halfway through an action, a couple of times the alarm hasn't gone off for no apparent reason, when I have checked the clock was set right & there hasn't been any explanation for it! When I 1st got the phone I read the reviews AFTER I had got it & was gutted at what I read but thought I'd give the phone the benefit of the doubt as hardly anyone ever writes anything good on these reviews so I took it at face value. Well let's just say, I wish I knew then what I know now so that I could have cancelled my contract there & then! Everything that was written was right & was true. I now have to take my phone in for repair, all the while I am still paying for a contract I cannot use, it is a big con & I am just glad I shelled out for insurance because it looks like I'll be needing it. Luckily, I only have a 12 month contract, then its bye, bye phone! My Nokia 6230i may not have been as pretty but it never failed me in the whole 2 years I had it. Had this phone been working fine I would have given it 10 out of 10 as all the features I think are fine, it's just a shame I can't use them!

I've heard of the tone change to default it's because you change to new theme or remove the battery cover & please for your ringtones & theme save it to phone memory everything will be fine. Micro SD are for saving large files e.g. MP3, video & picture. Read the user manual first before use. Good luck!

Reception problem resolved! Hey ;) brought the Nokia 6500 slide (silver) yesterday, I couldn't get signal anywhere when I got home! Even searching manually for networks wouldn't pick up anything, or if it did it will disappear within seconds.

Next day (today) went back to 3store, turns out most people had the same problem, so I got told by a member of staff the Nokia 6500 slide black is an upgrade because of signal problems.

So took it home (Nokia 6500 slide in black) same reception problem again!

Then I decided to swap the SIM with my partner who's also on 3, just to check. Turns out it works! Full reception so must be just a dodgy batch of SIMs! My SIM looks more squared on the edges but my partners one that's a few years older looks really different & more rounder.

All the best ;).

Moved to Nokia after having Motorola, Samsung & Sony over the past few years. I thought I had problems with the Sony, until I got the 6500!

I moved my contacts from the phone memory to the SIM memory & now can't move them back, so the address book is now totally shot & unusable because it seems impossible to order the numbers alphabetically. So I now have a random phonebook that can't search for numbers, really useful!

Nokia PC suite is a complete waste of time. I don't know how they could release such a bug ridden load of rubbish.

The battery is a joke, needs charging at least once a day, if I use the phone or not.

Has anyone had these problems?

Shame really because it's a great looking phone. The camera is great & the phone has all the features you'd probably ever need, except they don't want to work!

Can anyone recommend a phone that simply works, you know what I mean, you take it out of your pocket, make a call (& can hear the other person) & hang up again? &, if it's got all the widgets & gadgets, that they actually have been tested & work, surely not too much to ask, is it?

If you're thinking about getting one of these I suggest you don't bother. I am on my second one & they've both had exactly the same problems.

From the first day I got one, I've had nothing but problems.

- Resets to default as soon as it's placed down, wallpaper, ringtone, alarm tone & message tone.
- Can only access the media album if I am not holding the phone. I have to lay it down on a flat surface & press the buttons otherwise it chucks me out of the menu.
- Very sensitive to temperature as well. As soon as it gets a bit warm it gains a mind of its own.
- Freezes on a regular basis. Have to switch it off & back on again.
- Media player skips through songs as it pleases.
- Good quality camera but the video will not record for more than a second. Have changed the settings before anyone suggests that! It defaults as soon as I press record.
- Have been ever so careful with it. Hasn't been dropped or banged about but bits of the black plastic keep cracking & dropping off.
- Sound is nice & loud but rubbish quality.
- Vibrates randomly!
- Address book is never ready. Again have to switch off & on again.
- Is a pain in the bits to lock the keys. Sometimes it'll do it, sometimes it won't!
- Switches itself off mid conversation as well.

Good points.

- Looks good. Nice & heavy which I like, feels fairly sturdy. Good slide on it. Like all Nokia's, it's easy to use (when it wants to work that is). Good screen size & quality. Good camera. Battery holds power well.
- Seems that the main problems come down to lose bits inside. Memory chips etc. As long as I am not holding the phone & it's laid on a flat surface it seems to almost work as it should! Defeats the object of a MOBILE phone!

Very disappointed with this phone. Counting the days down now till I can upgrade my handset!

This has got to be the most disappointing phone I have ever used, I use this phone mainly for work but it's useless, I would get more use out of a cup tied to a piece of string every time I go to use any of the functions it crashes & freezes, if you make a call for longer than 10 minutes it gets so hot you could cook an egg on it, I am paying £40 a month for a black piece of metal that doesn't work, & the insurance & Nokia help line say they can't do anything about it. If you're thinking of buying this phone then don't! I may as well take the £480 I am paying for the year & burn it! Don't buy it.

Well I am on my 6th handset. They delete memory (pictures, numbers, music etc.) they crash a lot, it's a nice looking easy to use phone but I have had enough with it.

The screens are weak as anything.

The menu is the same as the old 6300, 6120 (which has all the same faults) & the 6500 classic (which is no different from the 6300).

Easy to use, very basic.

Would say if you get a working one it would be good as a first mobile but if you want a decent Nokia get the n95 or n81.

Nothing special about this phone & if your thinking of getting one buy a decent memory card as the phones internal is very small.

This phone is a great design like many have said. Mine creaks a bit when typing but that's not a big deal.

The Nokia PC software is quite clunky compared to the latest Sony Ericsson one. Though perhaps not a big deal as these get updated easily.

My one major problem is a 'hissing noise' as soon as it connects to a call. Firmware is up-to-date 0.58, V6 is out but not yet in the UK (well not for my T mobile branded phone).

Has anyone else got this issue? Great phone but ironically call quality is very poor.

I've had this phone for a couple of months now on the 3 network. It's a great looking phone with solid build quality & a good sized screen. Although it's a little bigger than a lot of the slim line phones out there, it's still small enough & light enough to carry around in your pocket.

It has all the features you'd expect, great camera, great music player etc. Although Nokia's have a reputation for being easy to use with straightforward menu's, having used this phone for 2 months now, I actually prefer the Sony Ericsson menu system.

The major faults with this phone are the lousy battery & signal reception. Nokia claim it has over 300 hours standby & 6 hours talk time but even when I don't use it very often I am still having to charge it every couple of days. Although it does give you a couple of warnings when the battery is low, it tends to die suddenly. The battery on my previous Sony Ericsson used to cling on for ages, even when it was down to just 5% power & with average use I would only have to charge it once every 5 or 6 days.

What's even worse is the reception. The signal constantly fluctuates between weak & absolutely nothing. Call quality is extremely poor. Callers sound echoy & there's usually a faint buzzing sound. Often callers struggle to hear what I am saying. At first I thought it was a network problem but having spoken to 3, they say it's a common problem with this phone.

How on earth can a major player like Nokia, who you would think know a thing or two about mobile phones, create such a gorgeous looking phone but forget to actually make it useable? ! Surely the main purpose of a mobile PHONE is to be able to make & receive PHONE calls!

If you're thinking of getting one of these, think again.

Great phone does everything you need just a few faults I have noticed with it, had it for a month now or a bit longer. When I take the back off the phone not even the battery just the back, the theme & ringtones reset to default ones.

As I listen to lots of music I have them all sorted into folders however when I go to make a playlist all the songs appear as a list & are called track 01, track 02 etc. They should appear in the folders so you know which songs you would like for your playlist.

A mini problem with this phone that won't bother many people but when your playing the games or taking a picture you can't listen to the music playing : (.

My old phone was a Sony Ericsson W850i great phone only reason I chose the Nokia over it was because this phone looks much smarter & smaller. However I do miss my Sony Ericsson just because of the 3 faults I noticed which affect me.

Anyways they need some faults to upgrade in the next phone I suppose anyways buy one of these! (or the Sony Ericsson:P).

I bought the phone when it first came out, after nearly a year's use I will be glad to see the back of it, WHY, well, it is very sensitive to temperature & taking it out of your bag on a cold day, forget it! , leaving the office to outside, will really make it have a paddy, likewise if you take it in the bathroom if you are running the shower or bath. It cannot handle any change in temperature at all. It should be tested like a computer & not a phone.

I amazed I haven't broken it with frustration perhaps paying £309.00 for it has held me back but many a count to ten moment over all very very disappointed had heard & been warned Nokia were rubbish, now I can join this disappointed club, (wouldn't get one again & would not recommend this phone).

I've had this handset for 5 weeks now & the reception is rubbish. I have contacted 3 on a number of occasions & just today they tell me there is a signal problem with this model of phone, so why did they allow me to order it knowing it had faults? I have noticed it works better if you turn it upside down but it gets tiresome standing on your head while making phone calls.

Other than that I find the phone to be OK'ish.

As for those who say the keys lock & don't work this is probably because if you hold your phone in your left hand your finger rests on the camera key when you open the phone thus disabling the key functions.
