Phone is rubbish! Had this phone for about 4 months now & I have already had problems with it. Doesn't respond now & has malfunctioned. Everytime I try to charge it, it says PC suite. Don't Buy It!

Had this phone for over a year now & have to say, it is the best phone I have ever had. I used to change my phones all the time but am so pleased with this one I am sticking to it. The secret to not having to charge it so often is to leave it switched on all the time. Yes, if it does run flat, it takes a while to recognise the charger.

I haven't actually had this phone yet it is due for delivery tomorrow form my catalogue. I fell in love with the phone the moment I saw it. I have currently got an LG Viewty but I fancied a change & I know Nokia usually do great phones! Reading these reviews has made me think if I have made the right decision about this phone. I will be turning off the 3G as advised by somebody to keep the battery life longer. I do not use 3G so this wouldn't be a problem for me. I have had the phone in black but have ordered pink covers as the catalogue didn't do the pink version on the network I wanted. I think it is a gorgeous looking phone & am looking forward to exploring it. The reviews have put me off about the screen but I have always kept my phone in a phone sock & never had any problems with cracked screens only once when my phone was thrown by somebody else. I do understand that the phone is very sleek. Some would say flimsy, but most phones are like that these days. If you take good care a phone can last years. I know people say they have broken in their pockets but Nokia must of had a lot of complaints & I would think that something has been improved to prevent problems happening. Nokia are the first & best phone company & although they don't sound like they help very much I feel that they make dam good phones & I can't wait to get my hands on it. I will probably write another review when I have had it a while to see if I am still as pleased. We will see.

I've just got this phone last Saturday! I like to hear music from this phone. It's an awesome phone, but you can't compare it with a Blackberry. But the phone does not have radio, & the battery life wasn't long. But it's not necessary for me. I'll recommend it to my friends. I like it because I am not using the phone constantly.

Looks, Very good.
Features, Good.
Usability, Worse.

Overall, Not recommended for fair usage (maybe 3 to 4 hours a day).

Two new problems (which is not listed in already published reviews).

- Software hangs in middle of operation: you cannot do anything unless you pull out the battery. The phone is 1 year old. This problem developed 3 months ago as a once a week thing & now happens at least twice a day.

- My Orange SIM card is not working properly. The same SIM works well in other phones. This might be specific to this 6500 piece which I own.

Other issues such as poor battery performance is anyway there. Now a days, it charges only up to half battery & dries out in next 3 to 4 hours despite very less usage.

This Has for me been the worst phone ever, battery life used to last 24 hours between charges then 12 hrs now won't charge or switch on even with a replacement battery, been for repair 4 times everytime comes back with the same fault, as Nokia say no fault found. Rubbish! If they only used some common sense & eliminated possible battery fault & charger faults then this would point to the phone fault. I have had other makes but always went back to Nokia for reliability & ease of use, but never again.

All reviews said a short battery life, but not as short as the one I got. Six months was all it lasted then wouldn't charge again. Great phone while it worked, but won't get another because of the battery. Charlie.

I've had this phone for about a year now. No real problems at all, other than a short battery life. But it is long enough, & the size of the phone can only support so big a battery. It is NOT feature rich, but I get a phone as a phone, not as an all in one device. I love the thing, & would gladly get another Nokia.

Best looking but least durable Nokia I have owned since I bought a 5110 a decade ago (a 8210, 5210, 6100 & N70 in between). I read the reviews & decided that 'all products have some failings' but am really disappointed after only 5 months that I too am suffering dropped calls, frozen OS & bad battery life.

I am sending mine back to Nokia & asking for a new phone of any other variety. I love Nokia phones & believe this was a slip up, which is a shame as it is easily the best looking simple-featured phone on the market.

Do not buy this phone.

I thought this was a great phone. Although did lack features as such. But I have always got a real camera to take decent photos. & I can't get enough of my iPod.

Really. A phones a phone.

Although. I did suffer from a cracked screen (sat on it).

I must have had a bad phone. This phone was great when it worked.

But so often or not (every 1 to 2 months) id' be taking it back to the shop to get fixed.
Either screen going blank white. Freezing. Turing off. Locking up, 1 to 4 day delay on sending & receiving messages. Everything.

In the end. Apparently it was water damaged. Most water it would have seen was a quick call while in the shower (not in the shower, but you know what I mean) come on, a little bit of water & that wrecks it according to Nokia & Optus. (my old Nokia 8250. Old school, survived a swim in a beer),

But my Optus girl Lauren (in Wollongong. What a plug) is the best ever. She got me out of the 12 months left to go on my contract, to renew me for another 24 months with a new phone. (that would usually cost say $400 to get out of the contract, or stay with it & buy another phone).

Had the potential to be a classy looking slim fitting PHONE. But epic fail. (also like how it didn't have a two way slider with super special hidden camera/music section on it).

Oh yeah. Music player was fair rubbish. & camera. Absolute rubbish. Was really a downgrade from my Samsung D600 in those terms.

If it wasn't so unreliable, I'd get it any day & recommend it to anyone

I have had this phone for over 12 months. No real problems except that the only way to use earphones is through the micro USB port. I have some great noise cancelling headphones using a standard 3.5 mm jack plug but I can't use them to listen to music on my Nokia 6500 &, try as I might, I can't get a converter. It is really annoying & frustrating. If you want to use your phone for listening to music & you don't want to be limited to the basic headphones supplied with the phone think carefully before buying the Nokia 6500 classic.

If you want an honest reliable phone which looks good & is easy to use go for this especially if like me all you want to do is text & call. I can't stand all these cool music massive mega pixel touch screen camera phones, I only want to keep in touch in the easiest way possible & this phone is top notch for just doing what it says on the biscuit tin!

Awesome, I like. Honestly a class phone. Just get it.

Cracked screens? I am always sitting on mine & finding it down back of settee but it's still as strong as ever.

Nice look, easy to use, but I would never pay good money for one. I've had 3 in the space of 18 months. The buttons fall off left right & centre, the charge point is unreliable, especially when charging off a laptop & computer. You can't use the music player if there is any chance you get a call or text, because the phone switches off or freezes. Nokia have sacrificed quality & durability for weight & looks.

I used to think Nokia made brilliant phones. This, although it looks good & fits in my pocket, is rubbish.

The sound quality keeps going (3 replacements so far, after 3 replacement 6500 slides for the same problem), & the battery lasts about 2 days, my last Nokia lasted 7 to 8 days without a problem.

& the operating system seems to have been made harder to use! Adding names to a text is much more complicated than it used to be.

Bad move Nokia.

Don't buy this phone whatever you do. I've been through two cracked screens with my 6500c. Same story as many others here, not dropped or mistreated, just carrying it in my pocket & it broke. I paid to get the first repaired when Nokia refused to repair it under the warrantee but realised there was something wrong & Googled it after the second one, finding all the complaints on the Nokia website's discussion list & these ones here.

After that I put in a complaint the Consumer, Trader & Tenancy Tribunal (NSW, Australia) to claim a refund on the phone, it not being of merchantable quality as required by section 71 of the Trade Practices Act. They actually ended up fixing it for me for free before the hearing was due. I settled for that & withdrew the case though, of course, it wouldn't surprise me if it cracks again & I'll be resubmitting it. They didn't admit there was anything wrong with the phone but apparently acted on the reckoning that it was easier for them to fix the phone then to send someone to the Tribunal to defend their case.

I think most places would have government bodies like the CTTT (which is connected to the NSW Department of Fair Trading) & similar legislation to the Trade Practices Act. If you are one of the ones who have already made the mistake of getting this phone, maybe you might like to give it a try too. (the application to the CTTT still cost me $33 but cheaper than the $90 I paid to get it fixed first time around.)

I had this phone for 18 months now so it is coming to the end of its life with me. To be fair it hasn't been a bad phone only problem I've had is the battery life being pretty poor.

No idea how so many people crack the screen, mine has been fine if you look after it, keep the clear sticker on the screen to keep the scratches off, you can't even tell it's on there.

Features wise it does everything it should, makes calls & text is easy enough although may be tough if you've got big fingers as buttons are small.

It's a nice looking phone for people who just want to make calls & SMS, which is me!

Love this phone, I have had it for about three months replacing a very much loved Nokia 6100. Perfect if all you need to do is make calls, the odd SMS & need something to fit in your pocket. It feels sturdy, looks very nice & is proving resilient to the keys in my pocket.

Keypad a little clumsy to use if you have man fingers, probably not good for people who are sending dozens of SMS per day. Reception & speaker clarity are good.

I didn't buy this phone for features (I prefer stand alone devices that do the job properly), if you are looking for a feature packed phone then this one is probably not for you. Storage limited to 1GB, camera is woeful & that's about all you can do on it!

BUT as I said above, it is the perfect phone for someone making calls & SMS & nothing else.

Loved the look of this phone & couldn't wait to get my hands on one, which is a bit of a shame really. Nokia have fallen out of favour with me for a long, long time. Having lady looks are as important to me as functionality. & this Nokia really does look the business. Unfortunately is good though.

All in all I wish I'd waited & placed more emphasis on features.

I won't be buying another Nokia. LG, Motorola & especially Samsung are all better bets!

I've had mine for just over a year. It's very standard, I can't think of too much that's terrible about it, but it's pretty uninspiring at the same time. The battery life is pretty terrible, there's times when I've had to charge it every day & it's not got a particularly strong camera on it. That said, it's easy to use, is virtually invisible in your pocket & looks pretty good. I've never really had any problems with it & would recommend it to anyone who's after a fairly basic phone.

Gorgeous looking phone (without the rubber case I've had to buy for it to stop it breaking) but I've had so many problems with this phone I am seconds away from writing a formal letter of complaint to Nokia (& Vodafone for their unhelpfulness today) Where to start? Well, I've always loved Nokia phones, so in June when my contract was up, I upgraded to the 6500. A couple of weeks later, I accidentally dropped the phone on grass- the screen cracked, right down the middle, so I took it to Vodafone (where I bought it from) & they sent it off for repair. Fine. Not long after I got it back it wouldn't charge, so I took it to Vodafone who tried charging it in their store, it still wouldn't, so off it goes for repair again! Once it was back, I was hoping things would be different. The battery died, so I tried charging it, guess what? It wouldn't charge! Back into Vodafone I go, they replace my battery. Great. I tested the phone & allowed the battery to run down. & no prizes for guessing what happened when I tried to charge it. So back into Vodafone (I was beginning to feel like I lived there) they again replaced the battery. I decided after this to try to avoid the battery running down all the way. However with such a low battery life this can be quite hard. Last night my battery died while I was on the phone (I had half battery at the start of the conversation & was only on for about 10 minutes before the battery completely died, which was probably a blessing as my ear was burning! ) It took a good 30 to 40 times of plugging the charger in, taking the battery out, blowing down the USB port etc before the phone decided to charge. I went into Vodafone today & told them about the latest issue & can you believe. I was told it was a design feature of the phone. If the battery dies down completely the phone will take 30 minutes to recognise a charger! It is not a fault in my phone, it is the technology! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I had to leave the store before saying something I'd regret. My next course of action was to look at reviews on this phone to see if the whole 30 minutes before charging thing was common, all I've found is more complaints about this phone I have decided to write to Nokia & Vodafone HQ to express my disappointment in this phone. I would happily downgrade if it meant I didn't have to tip toe around this one for the next 11 months!

This phone is a very good looking phone! I bought it for its looks but I wish I hadn't now. The battery last a day & no more it always has something like updating memory status then turns off when you are texting or just working with the phone. The features on the Nokia are not bad but some stuff I does have I never use & the stuff I do need its does not have! I don't like the way how the charger input & the USB cable input are the same it means you can only use one type of charger unlike the other Nokia's you could use the same charger in every phone. Mine has not yet broken but I have only had it for a month so I will wait in see what it will behold! This phone I would give to the old folk because it easy to use that's my only point about it. Ryan.

I like Nokia's & find them very easy to use, but the 6500 doesn't look terribly reliable, which sort of defies the point of me having it.

Though having said that the O2 sales rep said that O2 had waited about 2 months after everyone else to release the 6500 & so they ironed out most of the faults with their own software, & hence there is not too many problems with them when they're on O2. Not sure how much truth there is in this & whether to take the plunge or get a Samsung U800 instead? Or shall I just stick with the simpler 6300? Any theories.

My son has had this phone 6 months & during that time he has gone through 3 phones. Thankfully Orange has replaced them. The problem, the screen cracks too easily. This phone has been designed to look good which it does but not for durability. It has got to the stage where he is worried about taking it out. I would not recommend this phone if you wish to use it as it should be used. I can't comment on its features or usability as I only see it when it has a cracked screen!

I got myself a Nokia 6500 Classic about 8 months ago & I must say (as a formerly loyal Nokia user) THIS WAS the LAST Nokia PHONE I BOUGHT!

The battery lasts only a day or two, the device gets extremely hot when using the phone & last but not least, the screen is not protected. When it breaks it turns black & you can trash the device for good.

Although the design is nice, this is definitely the worst phone ever made by Nokia. NEVER BUY THIS PHONE!

I recently got my Nokia 6500 classic about 6 month ago & I must say it's one of the best phones I have ever had picture perfect slim & sleek. About 2 weeks ago I was having a couple of drinks at home when it happened. My phone fell off the chair arm & in to my pint of lager (full) after getting it out & removing the battery & SIM my wife washed it under the tap as alcohol contains sugar she thought she'd rinse it off. After 2 days of drying I was amazed to see it working. The only problem I had was the camera was not. I called into a local phone repair shop & enquired to see if anything could be done, he told me I was lucky any of it worked & to make the most of what I had, leaving it at that I didn't think anything else of it until a couple of days later I was messing around with my phone & low & behold every function including CAMERA were back in full working order. This has got to be the phone for the clumsy. Yours Jeff Stevens.

Had I have written this review a week ago I would have been raving on about how much I like it. Only I have had it 10 months now & although it has lasted longer than many I have read about here, it is now time for it to play up!

The screen freezes & goes white in the middle of text or conversation, it then turns itself off & on again. I can only send or receive one text then it goes off & takes 20 minutes before I can use it for anything again.

I rely on my phone heavily & this is doing my head in! It's not been dropped yet but it may be thrown very soon as it's so annoying!

I will be using my old Sony Ericsson (which is 4 years old & never had a problem) now until my contract is up & I will think carefully before having another Nokia.

I wouldn't recommend this phone, unless you enjoy being angry all the time.

My screen & keypad both broke so I sent it away to be repaired & it broke in my pocket as soon as I got it back, they need to start putting glass covers over the LCD screens on ALL MODELS.

Not recommended

- Lots of people are reporting that the screen breaks very easily (mine did).

- Terrible battery life.

- the interface is OK but clunky compared to my previous Sony Ericsson, for example, on the Sony Ericsson you can press a number on the keypad to access a menu item, this feature & loads of other nice touches are absent from the Nokia.

- If you have two numbers listed under one person, it doesn't, as far as I can tell, tell you which number a given missed call came from.

- It looks amazing but the looks quickly fade when the casing gets scratched & scuffed, keys fall off (as has happened to me) & the screen breaks.

I've had the Nokia 6500 for about 4 months & lo & behold the time has come for the screen to crack for some totally unknown reason, other than I had the audacity to carry it around in my bag. Was thinking of paying to get it fixed until I read a number of reviews that have all experienced the same issue. This has to be a design fault judging by the number of people this has happened to, when the phone has not been dropped or treated roughly.

When I first received the phone I thought it was great, although slightly difficult to text on given the small keys compared to the Samsung I'd just upgraded from. But I soon got used to that & loved the slim design & clear screen. However, it wasn't long before I was having to charge it every couple of nights & feeling like my ears were being fried if I made a call that lasted more than 10 minutes.

I've now decided to just go back to my trusty old Samsung until Nokia admit it's a design issue & offer to fix the cracked screens for free!

I've had this model bought from eBay, locked to Vodafone for about a month now. Reading previous reviews from this site I decided to enclose it in a clear plastic case to give added protection to its fragile screen. So far it's still intact!

I've had several 3G phones now & this one is no better at battery life when you are out of a 3G zone than any of the others, Samsung being bar far the worst, lasting a mere 6 hours on a full charge.

I just wish Nokia & Sony Ericsson (the two main players as far as I am concerned) would make models of this quality without the 3G, so the phone wouldn't drain the battery seeking a signal it won't find (I work on the edge of Exmoor which only has 2G coverage) At least with the Sony Ericsson you can switch between 3G & non 3G network reception. I haven't as yet found this option on this model.

I've nonetheless scored this quite well. It looks good, it's slim, light & compact. It has a quality feel to it. The screen is crystal clear & bright & you can change the font size if like me you have rubbish eyesight. As a person who always carries his mobile in his front pockets it great because it doesn't cause a huge bulge!

I don't want to take pictures with a mobile phone. The only phones I've ever seen half decent photo have been the cyber shot ones anyway. I prefer something called a Nikon D80 SLR for doing those! Music player, yep the 6500 has one of those, along with all the other media guff the kids seem to want. For this I have an iPod 80gig with every album I have owned over the past 24 years so I probably wouldn't bother transferring MP3's across from my PC to this phone.

The 6500 has web & pop3 & iMap email access of which I use only the email to my own BT email account (Vodafone can shove my mail as its useless) I must say I have a big beef with mobile operators ripping us off for the past few years for web usage, so the fact that this model even with edge & hspda download speeds really doesn't get my juices flowing because viewing web pages on something this small is a joke & still painfully slow despite the manufacturers claims. (you can almost watch the battery level deplete each time you download a couple of pages)web pages in 3G areas still taking about a minute, this could be laggy phone software, room for improvement here, as I have had older phones that have done the same thing a lot quicker.

The 6500 is easy to navigate, quite intuitive & took me about 15 minutes to get to everything I wanted to adjust only having to glance at the user manual twice!

So if you want a slick looking device that you can text fairly well with, receive emails on & make the odd phone call with this is adequate. I do feel this phone is trying to masquerade as a business users phone somewhat, which for £100 & it doesn't meet any of those requirements brilliantly. If that's what you want then fork out the extra £200 for an N-Series or a HTC PDA.

I may not be an electrical wizard but one pearl of wisdom I can impart is that there is a finite usable size for a mobile device with a touch input whether it be hard key or touch screen interface, then the Nokia 6500 is probably it (yes I know Samsung have brought out a couple of phones that are smaller, lipstick sized but they are mere fashion items aimed at a small minority, these are mere gimmicks).

unfortunately!

Wow, I have just read some of the reviews & felt compelled to add my own. I specifically came on to find out if I was the only one having problems. It seems I am not paranoid after all! I have had several Nokia's previously & never had any problems. They are easy to use & always look good. This is the worst phone I have had. My business partner & I took out identical contracts & identical phones. The phones can sit side by side & she has signal & I don't know how that happens. The signal is so intermittent at home I have to leave it on top of the coffee jar in the kitchen as it is the only place it will pick up or send messages. Move it an inch & forget it! Forget about having a conversation on the bloody thing. One day it will be fine but the next day I can be sat in the same chair & can't even get a signal! It also has an annoying habit of receiving the same message several times but sometimes as much as 20 minutes apart. Yet the time sent is always the same & the sender has only ever sent it once. The phone is a nightmare & unpredictable. If you like a little quirkiness in your life go ahead & buy the phone. It's impossible to talk on for more than 3 minutes as it starts to get so hot you'd think you face was burning. The reception tends to cut in & out as is pleases, I've been unable to use the phone for hours at a time because of this, & it's definitely not the operators fault as colleagues on the same network are unaffected! On top of all that, it randomly turns off in the middle of conversations & its has a pretty poor battery life even after turning off all the things that it was bought for, which apparently drain the battery. What is the point in having them if you can't use them.

I have had this phone since May 2008 & I have found it to be a brilliant little phone! It's never broken, the screen has never cracked, I have dropped it too many times to remember on solid concrete floors & it's worked perfectly afterwards. It's only crashed a few times, but that's when I have tried to do too much at once, & it's simple enough to sort out (take the battery out). I find the features on the phone brilliant, my camera is really sharp, & takes fantastic photos! & the USB connection to transfer data & photo's is so simple to use! However like everyone else, the battery is rubbish! It has to be charged every other day, but it does only take about an hour to be fully charged, so I guess it's a compromise on such a compact phone. I also found that when talking for more than 5 minutes on the phone, it's does get very hot : (. However this is the only downside, I guess I just got lucky & got a decent one! I would recommend to anyone. Also if you get it from O2, & trade in any old knackered phone (with a charger) you get £40 off a new phone!

I went for Nokia because I have been told that they are reliable because I was very disappointed with my recent phone, (Sony Ericsson w910i) due to the fact that it kept turning itself off & freezing.

I have bought a silicon case off eBay to protect my new phone so hopefully I won't have any problems with it breaking that way.

Just received the Nokia 6500 as an upgrade phone having only seen it on the website. IT IS BEING SENT STRAIGHT BACK! I should have read the reviews here first to realise it is just NOT the phone for me.

Make no mistake it is a beautiful phone, slim, elegant, smart, perfect for someone who goes to work in a suit & wants an attractive looking phone.

That for me is the problem, it is delicate & fragile, a light metal body, just look at it & you will scratch it.

To make matters worse the screen is glass without a plastic cover, just waiting to crack. There seems to be no carry case available to protect it.

The buttons are tiny & the charger connection (mains & car) are totally different to mainstream accessories.

If you want a delicate fashion accessory buy this phone, but if you want a solid device to use as a working phone you had better look elsewhere. My 2 year old Nokia 6230I is in a different class.

I have had two of these phones in the past 6 months & have had problems with both of them. I read the reviews on here before buying the phone & decided to go ahead thinking they can't all break, but from experience so far they do! You can't really fault the phone on design, it is very thin & in the black I think slick looking, I have received many compliments on the look of it. Also, it has camera, video, voice recording, Bluetooth, MP3 player, Internet, games (including snake 3) & picture messaging so there are no features most people would want that it doesn't have. While it is working I find it simple & a pleasure to use. However, it does overheat while having a conversation on the phone & the battery doesn't last very long at all (I think this could be because the battery is small due to the phone itself being so thin) but I charge mine overnight every other day or so & I don't really find this to be a big problem. My first 6500 classic used to freeze & the screen would turn all white & there was nothing I could do, if I eventually could get it back the phone would not let me access texting, my inbox, the gallery or the call register (no idea why), so I took it in to have it repaired, but then found that when they send your phone off for repair they wipe it clean so you lose EVERYTHING. Due to this I would not let them repair it & attempted to repair it myself, which surprisingly I managed! I then backed the phone up onto my computer (strongly recommend this as it has saved me A LOT of time & effort), in case it broke again (it seemed to work & then freeze on almost a daily basis). A week later I went on holiday only to have it stolen, I was not pleased to say the least! So on my return I paid £150 for another one, with the consolation that the first one probably would have broken again before long anyway & at least I had backed it up. I have had the new one two days, put it on charge & now it will not turn on. I wouldn't really recommend this phone, I think there are probably the lucky few out there who have had one that has not broken, but having had two break, in such a short time & having paid so much for the replacement (half my monthly salary) I cannot speak for them. I was considering replacing it with the cheaper 6300 (£80) which also now comes in all black as well as black & silver so it looks just as good, & now I wish I had because getting an exchange looks set to be a nightmare. I am now paying for a contract which I can't use because the handset is not working! Also I think this phone has been out a while now & it is probable that Nokia will bring out another before long, hopefully without all these problems! Just wish I had held out a little longer for that!

THIS PHONE IS the WORST PHONE EVER! DO NOT BUY! This phone looks good but that's really about it! The battery goes down extremely quick & I am sometimes having to charge my phone twice a day if somebody calls me for longer than 20 min if not I have to definitely charge it every day! This is a nightmare!

My ear feels like its burning off when somebody calls me for longer than five minutes & that's not an exaggeration this phone gets seriously hot!

Although I have not experienced the cracked screen (YET).

I have had this phone for about 6 months now but don't think I can hang on to it for another 6 months & I am going to change!

Just want to warn anyone thinking about buying this phone!

Most of its problems resolved with this new software. Again if you don't have this phone, don't take & go for another option.

What an awful phone. Yes, it's good-looking, but like a bimbo it's all about looks & nothing else. The camera is awful, every picture has a greeny blue tinge. & the battery, at first I only had to charge it every two days (my old Nokia 6101 I only had to charge every four or five days)& now I have to charge it everyday. One little conversation, the battery power drops right down. Also, it gets so hot, you could fry an egg on it. The other charming little quirk it has is it cuts out in the middle of a call. But then silly me, I should have done research on this phone beforehand, instead of being lured by the advert. Here in SA, the service provider will only exchange for a new phone within the first 10 mins of talk time. After that, your ill old phone will be sent in for repair a million times if need be. The worst phone I've ever owned, & I am stuck with it for the next 18 months. DON'T BUY IT.

Well I bought my phone on the contract deal & the day before it was due to be delivered I found this site as always for my older phones yet the reviews were basically rubbish, about how it freezes & the screen cracks. However, for a teenage girl who is into the phone industry & likes to get a new phone every 7 months or so due to me being careless with my phones. I think that the Nokia 6500 classic is very good. I can use it easily & haven't had to read the instructions due to it being fairly simple enough to just work your way around the phone. There for, unless my phone obtains any further problems which I will let you all know about it, my phone is pretty nifty tbh & for a contract of 15 quid a month for unlimited texts & 100 minutes. I think I can keep it for the 18 months with out problems.

OH where do I start, for the first month or so I thought it was an awesome phone, it looks really nice & is slim & easy to take around with you.

Although at first I found it difficult to find in my bag & found myself constantly worried that I have lost it.

But then one day I put my phone on the table walked away & came back to in about an hour later & the screen had a HUGE CRACK in it. I just couldn't figure it out.

I thought it was a freak accident. So I got it replaced, but then about 2 or 3 weeks later whilst consciously trying to be careful with it as not to crack it, it was in my bag I found it had cracked again blanking out about half the screen in black & making the other side pixelated & flickering.

Then when reading these reviews I remembered that when I first got my phone I was quite worried by the quite loud high pitched buzzing I got when charging it.

I have never broken a phone, I have never had any problems of this sort, although once a phone I had became almost impossible to charge, but I had had the phone for over 2 years. This phone I have had for a few months & it seems as though to carry out my contract I am going to have to expect a lot more cracked screens & have a shortened battery life to look forward to.

Please, don't buy this phone.

At first it seems great, but after a few months it will really begin to fall apart.

I love this phone. It's gorgeous, & easy to use, additional features aren't fantastic but I want a phone, not an MP3 player.

I have had this phone for just over 2 months. I noticed immediately that the battery life was not great, & it needs charging every 1 or 2 days, but I could handle that. Also, whenever I make a phone call, I end up with a hot ear! Again, I wasn't too bothered.

It also has a poor reception, but I assumed that was the network.

After 3 weeks, I had my MP3 player on & received a text. The entire phone froze up. Had to remove the battery (which was difficult! ) to get it working again. The same happened a couple of days later. I stopped using the MP3 player.

The phone continued to freeze on odd occasions, until 4 weeks later, the whole thing crashed. I couldn't receive texts, the phone would reset during calls, & it wouldn't let me go through my menu.

I sent it off for repair & got it back a week later. I had had it back for 6 days when it did exactly the same thing again.

My mobile phone company won't exchange my phone, because I didn't bring it back within 28 days. So I am back to a loan phone. I will apparently eventually get an exchange (although I don't have much hope for a new phone after reading the reviews! ) after it has been sent off for repair a minimum of 3 times. Instead I keep getting my phone wiped & sent back, & in the meantime left with a brick from 4 years ago.

I am very disappointed. I have always found Nokia's to be reliable & am now faced with large amounts of HASSLE. As lovely as this phone is, I'd recommend choosing a different model.

Just got phone so still making my mind up, it's pretty amazing how slim this phone really is, first impressions is that I really do like it.

Struggling with the predictive text on this phone, even when its switched on it doesn't give the option of opting for a different word I.e. When I want to write the word me it brings up the option of the word of, I am then having to go into the options to change the word whereas my old phones used to allow you to arrow down to change the word. Aaaahhhh just me having a mini moan, any suggestions would be a great help.

Battery seems very poor so will have to keep an eye on it & didn't realise there was no radio, apart from these couple of minor things all is great, ideal to sneak into my purse in a small handbag for nights out, happy with phone to date.

This was very difficult. Then the phone would freeze up. This happened quite a bit. The battery life on this phone is a joke. As a result of this I sent it to T mobiles approved repairers. Imagine my disbelief when heard from them stating that the screen was broken & that I would have to pay to put this right. I sent this phone in, in good condition but it is their word against mine. This is not covered under warranty. I read up on this site at the amount of similar faults & tried to argue my case but to no avail. I would not advise anyone who is considering getting this phone to get one because it is ill designed & extremely fault ridden. I only had this phone for less than two months.

I spoke to a tech & they said the screen is very fragile as it has no plastic protector over it & advised me that I should have brought the hard case protector which was never offered to me at the time of purchase. I am afraid if this has happen to you, you will get no joy you will have to pay for it to be fixed but buy the hard see through case after, it doesn't make it bulky & it will save hassle in the long run.

Love it. Looks great. Better than the slide version too. Also a lot better in looks & feature wise than the 6300. A lot slimmer too.

Its light compared to some phones like the N-Series, but heavy in comparison to the 6120, which is currently offered with the same plans & deals etc.

The keys are very small, & can be difficult to use. Only takes a week or two to get used to it.

Camera, is not good. My old Samsung D600 rips it. But who really buys a phone based on the camera.

Downside is the 1GB built in memory. Not expandable although, 1GB is a lot. Back in the day people would hardly get a 1GB stick for the camera. If you wanted a music player, you'd have either the slide version or an iPod.

As stated. Battery life isn't that great. I can usually go for a few days without having to charge it. With just SMS's & a bit of music. (I am a SMS addict). But if I make a few calls, I'll have to charge it that night.

The metal casing is great, although I have scratched mine already. Only tiny but I know it's there. Nothing a bit of black touch up paint didn't cover.

& occasionally if the phone is low on battery, & if your playing music. It can turn off (durrr), but only sort of off? the key lights will come on, I can receive messages. But screen will be off & keys are inactive. Strange.

All in all, I am happy with this phone. I will keep it for till my contract runs out, other 18 or so months.

Design marked down as phone is too small. But that's not really THAT much of an issue. It's just sometimes hard to hold.

Features marked down (design boosted). Not as many features (as say the slide version), but look how small & skinny it is! Also the camera is bad.

Usability, keys can be tricky to use. I don't personally like the music player. Compared to my iPod. Battery life.

Had this phone about 2 months now. Absolutely beautiful. If you've ever had an 8800 it's basically one of them (So pretty phone that works like almost every other Nokia) without the fancy slide & about 60g knocked off in a very slim case. (If you stack 3 of these on top of each other & then put an n95 next to it, you'll really appreciate the thinness.)

It's not feature packed its more style & some substance.

2MP camera is poor takes OK photos but really should have come with a 3.2 as a minimum.

1gig (really something on the lines of 930MB) memory will be adequate for most users but will fill up quickly if you're one of those people that turns your phone into a MP3 player. Music players quite good but not as loud with the headset in as it could be. The back is 100% flat so when it's on a table on silent mode it will not make a sound vibrating. Nokia S40 platform works a dream.

Wouldn't buy it pay as you go at current prices but free on a contract its well worth it.

I bought the Nokia 6500 Classic as my casual phone. It is an ultraslim ergonomic design achievement that easily slides into ones pocket without any bulkiness. Its stunning looks captures attention. It's slimmer than & looks better than it's Slide sister.

Usability is very good & it's very quick & easy to adapt to from other Nokia phones (I also have the excellent Nokia E61i (E is for Enterprise) as my Road Warrior device.) the ultraslim battery does not standby as long as fatter batteries, which is of course understandable. For those who just can't handle & use phones gently, it must be remembered that the 6500 Classic is not a shock proofed outdoor activity phone, it needs to be treated with the respect it deserves.

The price is right for what it is & I contend it's the best looking ultra slim phone in the shops right now.

I've also had problems with charging a flat battery from USB, this can result in a crash.

I had already had this phone on order, so I was looking for reviews on how fabulous my new phone was going to be like, after reading most of the reviews on here I panicked, what was I letting myself in for. Well if I stuck to what was being said on here I would have returned it, but I seriously haven't had one problem, no buzzing from the charger, no creaking when texting, battery life is fine, the volume was a little quite when speaking but I just turned up the speaker volume by pressing the up key, it's a good sturdy phone, you make & take calls, you text, job done, if you want a music player go get an I pod, you want decent photos get a digital camera.

I didn't need & ego building, all singing all dancing huge phone that did everything, I wanted a small phone, to make calls & text & this certainly fits the bill for me, make a lovely change from my brick N93 (all singing all dancing ego building, look & my flash phone, which was a hand me down from my lovely husband).

It's a decent phone, please read the reviews & panic like I did, I think there was a dodgy batch that went out, & all is well now.

Guys, I seriously don't see what's wrong with everyone, the 6500 classic is a brilliant phone & I simply can't understand why everyone has issues with it.

Look.
Stylish, classic & pretty sleek. Doesn't leave a bulge in your pocket or take up vital space in a matchbox handbag.

Features.
Okay not the best, but if you want to be able to make & receive calls, send a few text & picture messages (& let's face it that's what 99.9% of people use their mobiles for! ) it does what it says on the tin.

Camera.
For a camera so slim, I think the picture quality is pretty fabulous.

Memory.
OK so no memory card but how much space do you need? 1GB is more than enough to satisfy most people.

MP3 player.
Sound quality great, & stores a decent number of tunes to keep you occupied.

Battery life.
No issues here. Instead of using the phone straight away, leave it to charge for about 13 to 14 hours before using (as most phones instruct you to do) for the first time & then your battery life will be as per manufacturer states. I had Bluetooth on all the time, spoke for at least an hour a day, sent numerous SMS & the battery still lasted 3.5 days without the need to recharge.

Call volume.
If you read the user manual, states quite early on that you use the navigation button in the middle to turn volume up & down.

I think if you have a little patience, read through the manual, & keep your expectations realistic, you can't help but to be amazed by the phone.

For what you are paying it is a bargain!

For the record, I am on Orange in the UK.

The insurance should get me a new one but I am worried about the screen cracking again. Has anyone else had problems with the screen cracking?

This phone looks & feels great. However, the battery life is so bad that I am going to return it. I am used to Sony Ericsson's lasting about 4 to 5 days, this one lasts about 2 at most. The 2MP camera is really bad. Texting is difficult as the buttons are so small, & the metal rim at the bottom of the buttons adds to the awkwardness. It also creaks as you press the buttons which makes the phone feel a bit cheap & tacky. I am heading back to Sony Ericsson, going for the K770!

I wanted a phone that was slim & practical. I got that with this. The down side is the battery power & the charger like most Nokia phones they have the same charger is one has an awkward one. No in car charger yet! The phone does freeze too so you have to take the battery out. You can't have it all with slim phones battery life will never be great, an answer to that but a spare & carry it if you know you are going away for any length of time. All in all a good phone.

It is a nicely designed phone but you can never depend on it. I had before 3310, 6610, 6610i, 6230i all satisfied me for quite a long time. This 6500 from the first month I realized that it was a bad & wrong option. Frequently shut down & can't be restarted unless you remove the battery, deletes contacts, unreliable net connection.

Nokia has a lot of fantastic phones, this not one of them. DO NOT TAKE IT.

Looks gorgeous but the phone's a bag of rubbish. Since I had it in Nov 2007 I have replaced it 3 times! When the battery loses all of its battery which doesn't take too long, I go to plug the charger in & it just won't take it, this happened to me twice, every time my battery went dead I had to travel to t mobile & complain & they replaced my battery about 4 times as the batteries they had in stock had a bit of life in them already so I could turn the phone on to charge it. The THING won't CHARGE WHEN IT'S SWITCHED OFF! The phone sound is rubbish too, when I call someone I have to hang up & try again as I can only hear little bits of what they are saying! I have had Nokia's all my life & this is by far the most rubbish! The Nokia 5110 was better than this one!

Simple mobile perfection, I read a lot of reviews that talked about reception problems. Yet I took the plunge & got the phone on upgrade, with network 3. My Nokia N73 I used to have lost reception loads of time while I was at home.

Since having the 6500 classic, I have had no problems with reception. I got sick of having phones that try & do everything, but never really work properly, or freeze all the time.

So I wanted a phone that was mainly a phone & this is a smart phone, tiny in size & weight & it's simple to use, yet it's got little features here & there that makes you smile.

First time I got a text from a contact with a picture attached, the photo turns up with the message. Nice! The phone feels solid & it's superbly designed, it drolls perfection! Don't believe any bad review, I am on 3, & this phone is by far the best I have ever had, & I have had a lot of phones, Nokia 3110, Nokia 7600, Nokia N73, Nokia N95 & of all this is the best I have experienced.

Get it! You won't be disappointed.

I bought my phone because I wanted a good looking phone. If I wanted music & camera, like others say, I'd have bought a bigger phone.

My battery life has been great. When you buy such a slim phone, something has to give. You cannot expect as big a battery life from a smaller battery. Even the new mac air has smaller battery life, because the smaller battery.

I also wish it had a radio rather than MP3 player. Mind you when I used the MP3 player, for a phone, I thought the sound was great.

If you want a slim phone, get it. If you want a phone with the works, get something else designed primarily to give that to you. Buyer beware.

I was looking for a sleek, cool looking phone & I think the classic fits the bill.

However, I had noticed a few irritating quirks & originally thought it was me or O2?!

I simply want a phone to be that. A phone! I am not interested in MP3 or cameras.

Rather annoyingly though when I use my Bluetooth I find myself constantly turning the volume up & the network signal is terrible, as I said above I thought this was down to network but after reading the other reviews I very much doubt this.

I agree the battery life is not very good & I have also experienced the phone heating up when a longer call has been made.

Come on Nokia it is 2008 surely it cannot be that difficult to design a phone that not only looks the part but works as well!

What a brilliant looking phone.

All those people banging on about bad features, well they give you a list of them before you buy the phone. If you do about 10 minutes research before buying the phone, then you probably would see the features (or lack of them) in the first place (although this does not apply to those who have been given the phone as gifts)!

The idea of this phone is to be just a Phone & not a fancy MP3 player, camera etc. It just provides these extras at a basic level (if you want a camera then buy a CAMERA, if you want an MP3 player buy an MP3 player, & so on).

I think the phone does what is intended brilliantly!

My usage that day was:

- Calls Received, None
- Calls Made, 35 seconds, 3 minutes 54 seconds, 9 minutes 36 seconds, 2 minutes 18 seconds.
Texts, Received 2, Sent 3.

That's just not a usable battery life, I'd already abandoned Bluetooth to try & maximise life & it still wasn't good enough.

SIMPLE & SLIM BUT VERY STYLISH. GOOD QUALITY BUILD AS EXPECTED FROM A MAJOR MANUFACTURER & I don't THINK THERES MUCH TO CHOOSE IN RELIABILITY BETWEEN THESE & OTHER TOP RIVALS SUCH AS Sony.

A 3G PHONE WITHOUT VIDEO CALLS. OK FOR ME AS I DIDNT USE IT ON MY Sony ANYWAY. NOT the BEST CAMERA BUT OK FOR PICTURES LEFT ON the PHONE & NOT PRINTED, I USE A PROPER CAMERA FOR THAT. I WOULD HAVE PREFERED A RADIO RATHER THAN A BUILT IN MP3.

NICE & EASY TO NAVIGATE THROUGH the MENU, EASY TO OPERATE & SEND TEXT. I HAVE READ REPORTS OF A POOR BATTERY LIFE BUT the Orange STORE SAID TO RUN the BATTERY DOWN & GIVE IT A GOOD CHARGE & THINGS SEEM OK, I TEND TO ONLY LEAVE the Bluetooth ON WHEN I am IN the CAR FOR AN HOUR OR MORE A DAY. NO MEMORY CARD AVAILABLE FOR MASSES OF STORAGE BUT the PHONE CAPACITY IS SUITABLE FOR the AVERAGE USER IN MY OPINION.

The battery lasts less than a dingo's kidney. The buttons are too small, for every setting you change you are prompted to confirm. The battery life is somewhat poor & the special type charger is a bit uncomfortable when you go out & need to charge a Nokia, then always someone has the old regular charger. But the new one you just need to bring it with you.

I have also a question, I want to save documents, such as word, excel, pdf etc & the Nokia 6500c doesn't read them. Is it even possible to browse these documents with this phone? I also tried to save notepad (text fail) & there was no problem, but who even uses notepad?

I have read all the reviews here. For all the negatives written about it, I wish to give it a POSITIVE.

I have had mine since Christmas Day 2007 & love it.

It froze on me once & I had to remove the battery to get it going again, however this was after I had it connected to Nokia Suite on my computer, & I had downloaded a heap of stuff onto it. I have used Nokia suite a couple of times since without any problems. It has not frozen since at any time.

It is interesting about the comments on poor battery life from others.

I put mine to the test & it remained on full bars for 33 hours before it dropped down a notch (minimum usage).

However, I only charge it every 3 days with normal usage.

A note re charging: the manual says to charge for only a few hours. I found that battery life was poor until I gave it a full 14 hour charge a couple of days after I got it. All phones usually require a big charge first, even though it is not stated in the manual. No probs since.

There have been no technical issues with it. Need to SAVE the ringtone at your desired one for it to stick. It took me a while to find this out. Now that I have got to know the phone better, it does all that it should for me. Very happy.

Do not be tempted by the sleek design of this phone. That beautiful slimline case contains the poorest functioning mobile I've ever owned. I am now on my third handset in less than three weeks & I will have to send this one back too. The first had a faulty speaker, meaning that all my calls sounded like the person was talking through a watery tunnel. The second developed a black line across the screen on its first day out of the box. & now this third one cuts out & won't switch on again for over an hour (much fiddling with batteries & sim cards & trying to charge it up eventually does the trick). I don't know how Nokia can get away with selling such a pile of junk (I am on a monthly contract so at least this isn't costing me anything) but I guess people are always going to be seduced by something that looks nice.

When offered my annual free upgrade, I felt after countless years of Sony Ericsson mobiles that a change was needed, & so I picked the 6500 Classic model. Firstly, it looks amazing! It's very sleek & stylish, much better looking than any Sony! Being a Nokia, it's very easy to use as well, simple menus etc make the phone useable for almost everyone! But on my previous phones, I had used them as MP3 players as well & I thought I would do the same with the 6500 classic, BIG MISTAKE!

Firstly, the Nokia PC Suite Transfer Music software is awful! It takes forever to transfer music & to even realise the phone is connected to the computer via the USB! Also on the phone, the USB input is at the top of the phone, this is where you put your head phones in. It isn't very secure, & the headphones are constantly coming out! Also the quality of sound is poor, a lot of fuzzing in the background! Also the media player isn't the best, it takes about 6 to 7 minutes just to load up, & I only have 200 songs on there!

Overall, I would definitely suggest this phone to anyone without intentions to use the MP3 player, the rest of the features are good! But make sure you don't make the same mistake as me, don't use the phone as an MP3 player!

Nokia has done it again! I love this phone, except when you take it off the PC connector it often freezes! First time it happened was the day I got it & I was panicking! I couldn't get the battery out! But I did! It just happened, so I think that is not the phone just the slow connection speed, minor issue. I have 69 songs & it is up to 430 MB, very stylish. I can't wait to spend my high school years with this phone. I was going for the Hiptop 3, Sidekick 3, but when we were in the store Mum saw it & said it looked flimsy, it almost came off. This phone has all the features, but it doesn't have an expandable memory, BOO.

Expensive phone, worth it. It came with a special carry case in mine. So nothing will happen with mine, in terms of breaking.

I wanted to love this phone. I mean it just looks fantastic. But it's not.

Firstly the battery life is poor. I was previously using a phone which I'd charge every 3 to 4 days. I had to charge mine every day.

Secondly it's just too slim & smooth! For example I found it difficult to pick it up off my desk at times.

Thirdly, whist my screen didn't break I could see just how easily it could if put in trousers etc, not really usable then.

Finally, the colour looks stunning new BUT be aware that it shows up fingerprints, so it never looks stunning! I found myself forever wiping it afterwards.

So, after 4 weeks I am back to my old 6300 & have sold the 6500 on.

Had this phone for two months, firstly the instructions are not great. It doesn't tell you how to use many functions on the phone. Secondly, the camera is very poor. Its 2 mp but it appears a lot less than that. Also, the music player doesn't seem to have a stop button on it so it just loops tracks.

However, the one thing that has got my goat, & is the reason why I found this page is because of the battery life. For those of you who have had it a week & say you get 4 to 5 days, the same applied to mine. Now, I get one day out of it from making one 20 minute call. Therefore it's not usable, as the score reflects.

Might as well have a land line phone. This is a piece of junk.

A great looking phone. It is a shame about the poor audio quality & reception. Battery life is OK after a couple of weeks. I have also had the handset freeze on a regular basis. It does look nice. That's about the only good thing about this phone. Stick with the 6300 people. I've now gone back to mine.

I hope some of you have a better experience with yours. Good luck to all.

I mainly love this phone but there are a couple of gripes that I have.

I adore the design, it is slim & looks great, yet is heavy enough that you would notice if it fell out of your pocket for example.

I was worried about the finish & screen scratching but after 6 weeks or so of knocking around in my handbag with keys & pens & goodness knows what, it is still in really good nick.

I have had none of the problems with the phone freezing that others have described below, I am on Orange & maybe it is due to differences in service provider software. I have noticed that WAP suffers regular but short periods of unavailability but I have no idea if the phone is having an effect or if it is the Orange network.

My biggest gripe about the phone is the battery life, I frequently wake up in the morning to find the battery has gone from showing half full (or half empty depending on your take on the world) the night before to being dead.

The camera isn't great but is OK for shots in decent conditions (I took some really good pictures out over London from my tenth floor office & they are really quite clear at quite a fine level of detail), however I wouldn't really bother with taking photos in the dark (even with the flash).

The final gripe is Nokia messing around with the charger, I tend to have at least three chargers at any one time (home, office & one for traveling) but having just passed on all of my large pin chargers & replaced them with the small pin ones, I now need to change again. Although I do recognise the need for less space to be taken up with ports for different bits of kit.

Despite all this I adore my phone & think that it is great to see Nokia putting some thought into slim phone design instead of the OK-looking (or sometimes even pretty) bricks that seem to have been the norm for some time now.

If you want a phone that is high tech, touch screen, pens, sliding this, sliding that, want everyone in the office to be WOW, the Nokia 6500 Classic is not what you want.

However, if you want a phone that does everything a normal mobile phone to do, this machine is absolutely a faultless piece of beauty. It has an OK camera, (sufficient in lieu of your standard nowadays 10.2m pixel cameras, that you'd still go out & buy), 1GB internal memory, more than enough (for people who already have an existing 200GB iPod or however big they are), a superb Stainless Steel robust casing that feels bullet proof, an excellent non small sized key pad & the forever easy to use Nokia software interface which is again faultless.

This is probably the most good feel Nokia I have ever held, my past Nokia's were N70, 6020, 7250i, 6100 & always feel good & solid for the first few months, then they end up in the washing machine, come back out still working & alive, however with the feel that I get from the 6500 Classic, I reckon it could go to the moon & come back without a problem.

So for those of you who want to be surrounded by others saying LOOK AT ME I'VE GOT the NEW IPHONE, SAMSUNG F700, LG (whatever it's called) but the 6500 Classic is not the phone you'd want to get. But for those of you who've been there, done that & just want a phone that works, reliable & strong. This is an excellent mobile phone. (I don't work for Nokia).

My advice is that if you like good looking phones but don't really care about features so much as long as it has the basic then this is the best phone, for me I have had & worked with all the best phones & still I own a 6500 classic & I love it. & about all the problems, there is bound to be problems with any phone so don't worry when it comes to buying this phone or any other phone for that matter. :D

After one week the screen had cracked with a big brown streak across it, had many Nokia's without this problem before, it would be OK kept in a handbag or something but not in your trouser pocket. In my opinion the screen weakness is a design fault & NOT accidental damage. So where do you keep the phone, maybe tie it around your neck because you can't keep it in your pocket!

I've had the handset changed once, & the second handset again had the same problem as the first handset. The battery life is really very bad. Phone seems to freeze during use. The vibrating battery is something you would barely feel when placed in your pocket. & if you're looking for good games, sadly this phone only contains demos of the best games. The rest are really bad.

Too many of you write 1 day after getting your hands on the phone! I don't see any value in reading feedback like, I got my phone yesterday & love it. Surely, the first impressions tend to be too positive.

Did any of you experience the phone heating up after a 5 minutes conversation, as was reported with the other recent Nokia phones with metallic cases?

This phone is great to look at however. Having had it only five days the charger has broken & start to make strange noises if I plug it in. The speakerphone is so quiet so impossible to use whilst driving (I am comparing it to my old 6131 which was really loud).

The calls are fuzzy & often the phone loses signal during a call & it I've not moved. The battery life only last a day. However saying that it does look nice!

Oh yes, also when connecting to my laptop for the Nokia PC suite it wouldn't download the pictures. I am now having to charge my mobile from my laptop as I have no other means of charging it daily!

Anyway when I saw the 6500 classic I thought wow what a stunner. But to my dismay it turns out it's a total waste of time as well, I have now had 2 from Vodafone & both have had problems with the Bluetooth & with the software it comes with.

Nice phone, features are easier to use than the business orientated Nokia phones. However I am disappointed with the battery life & when I miss a call whilst the keypad is locked, the phone freezes, in fact it seems to freeze quite a bit.

For such an expensive phone (I paid £380 off contract from a Nokia store) I'd expect a better camera & sound (both from speakers & earpiece).

Overall I love the look & design of this phone but it's just not that practical & really wasn't worth the money, I get cramps in my hands from texting because the phone is so thin. Good phone but not the super phone Nokia make it out to be!

Seriously worried about some of the reviews on here & how lacking the handbook is. I agree with previous reviews that you have to figure out how to change volume as it doesn't say. OK let's set the record straight, this phone does exactly what it's meant to do which is small & anything else is a bonus.

I've had this phone for a week now & I love it. I hardly know it's in my pocket. I've come from using the N73 & N70 & I realised that I don't actually use anywhere near the full potential of those phones. Although I do think that the software on the N73 & N70 is better than on the 6500. E.g., on the N73 when sending a text to multiple people you can select them without having to keep pressing add & then going back into you're contacts list. Also I don't like how when searching for a contact on the 6500 it only searches the first name & not the last too, which the N73 does.

Battery life is not great (depends if you have Bluetooth on or not too) & lasts me about a day & a half at the most but I recharge it daily anyway so it doesn't bother me. For those complaining about the battery life, consider this, it's only 10mm thick what exactly we're they expecting. I once had a Nokia, the model number escapes me at the minute, & it held its charge for almost a week but it was the size & weight of a brick so you've got to decide what you want from it.

Camera is good resolution for only being 2MP. I read that somebody was complaining of the size of the keys but they are actually bigger than the n70 & not that much smaller than the N73. I personally didn't have any problem using the keys at all.

Overall very good phone, although I hope the next generation has the N73 style software but that would be the only thing I would change.

- the memory is good.

Bad:
- the Battery life is poor.

This phone is only good for younger users how play music or like taking photos or not for a mature person. As its rubbish for a business man as the battery life is absolutely terrible.

Have never in the past been disappointed in a Nokia phone, but this one is poor all round & it's a shame as it could be the perfect phone. Yes, it looks great. But so slim your thumb aches after sending just one text, the volume is very poor on everything. I.e. Loud speaker, general phone calls, alarm. Picture quality is VERY poor. These are just fundamentals & they can't even be met well. Dear oh dear Nokia!

Upgraded my phone to a 6500 classic from my old phone Nokia n70, decided on this phone after the bulkiness of the n70. The 6500 is a lovely looking phone, fantastically slim, you don't notice it in your pocket. The keys are a little difficult to text as quickly as I am used to. Overall very easy to use.

My only problem has been I got the phone on Friday & by Wednesday my screen had broken! After a year & half with the n70 dropping & bashing it & not one problem, less than a week with this phone & I now have to pay 25 pounds excess to have it fixed! I had put the phone in my pocket with nothing else in it, so I know I did not hit the screen against keys or anything hard, & when I took it out the LCD screen was damaged in the corner & was spreading across the screen, making it impossible to see anything on the screen. So please be careful with the screen, don't know if they are all this delicate or it was just my phone.

Not a bad looking unit, sleek & dark. However the keys are pretty awkward & the phone seems a little top heavy despite the battery being towards the bottom, this is one droppable handset.

The USB port is at the top which is OK for PC connection but not so good to connect power in your car if you have a holder & there's no pop port of course. Discovering that there is also no longer the Nokia trade mark volume buttons on the side, whilst in the street & trying to make a call, was un nerving as the default volume on my unit is pretty low. This is a fantastic little phone, very good looking, very easy to use. It took me a really long time to choose this phone, after days of internal battles trying to decide between either the Sony Ericsson K850i, Samsung G600 & this little beauty, I decided to go Nokia. I was very excited about getting it, read loads of reviews about it & hardly found a bad word said about it.

Review time; the phone itself is excellent, very sturdy given its size, has the same features you would expect from a Nokia, the camera really surprised me, it's only 2MP but very good quality, lots of cool little themes & graphics for those of you who like to give your phone that personal touch. Texting can be a bugger if you don't have really thin fingers, buttons can get quite fiddly & annoying.

Only really have one bad thing to say about this phone & it's the battery life. My god is it rubbish, got the phone home & ran the battery dead, gave it a full charge for work the next day, got about one hours worth of calls out of it, played snake for 10 minutes & the battery died. I am so gutted because it's a gorgeous little phone & does exactly everything you need it to do, just not for very long!

So needless to say I am taking it back to O2 so they can exchange it for the Sony Ericsson K850i, which may I add is an awesome piece of kit, had a play around with it in the shop & it rocks, (should've listened to my head in the first place.) So anyway, if you're looking for great little phone that's simple to use, very good looking but seriously lacking in battery life go for the Nokia. If not, then find something else.

All the great looks & features mean little when the battery lasts little over half a day.

Why can't Nokia make a phone with good battery life.

Just got the phone & very impressed. In the tradition of the 6100's & 6230i's I liked so much & a worthwhile improvement on the 6300.

Slim & light. Keyboard is similar to the 6300. Why can't they make them larger as there seems to be enough space.

The screen is the same physical size as the 6300 but higher resolution. The glass is smaller & slightly recessed so hopefully will avoid the minor scratches.

It has a new micro USB connector (different to the 6300) which is the only connector of any kind on the phone. Used for both charging & data. What a pain to have another type of charger as I still use other Nokias.

The only buttons including On/Off are the main keypad. No separate volume control. The speaker throws out a lot of sound.

A very cool clock screen-saver which can be used as the best wallpaper I've seen. It's a 'mechanical' clock with cut-outs showing moving cogs. Great fun & in typical Nokia style, is more usable/subtle than flashy.

A world clock application shows a world map with light day / dark night. Very nice.

It's good!

Highly recommended phone. It's very slim but not weak enough to be damaged in your pocket. Build quality is superb. Lots of great features not least of which is the fact that to charge it up all you need is the little USB cable (incl). & you can leave the recharger at home & link the phone to your laptop. Very clear screen for pics/videos etc & the built in speaker is excellent. Buttons are as small as can be whilst still remaining useable to text hence 90%.

Bought in HK for 180 quid sim free. Go get one ;-)

Could you get a better looking phone? ! Just got this phone & it does exactly what you want a phone to do, make calls! The Camera is very good considering its only 2megapix & it's really easy to use. The buttons are small which can be a bit fiddly but you have to expect some drawbacks with a phone that looks this smart. I've always had Samsungs so this has changed my opinion of Nokia.

It's about time N-Series has! It's smart, desirable, fits neatly in my pocket & above all it doesn't have crashing software. The only thing missing is a mini or micro SD slot for extra memory & the only downside is the small buttons which make texting without a double jointed thumb a task but at least I don't bash my thumb on the slide thing like I used to with the N80.

Excellent really impressed with the software & the connectivity easy to use menu & the flash for the camera is great camera is OK 3 megapixel or more would be nice but the phone probably would not be as sleek as it is well recommended if you like Nokia phones you would want one of these I am really pleased with mine.
