Don't, Don't, Don't Buy it. I have the old 6300. The loudspeaker you can have on the car seat next to you & still hear perfectly & talk. This upgraded model, if you want to call it that, is terrible & not worth the money. Maybe they left out the loudspeaker.

We live in a society of safety when receiving calls. Don't take the chance with this new model.

Nice looking candy bar Nokia which they're good at. Nice build quality for the money. Average functions which it does well. Let down for me by the keypad being too small for my big thumbs, thus slow & fiddly to use. Otherwise, a neat, reliable phone with good battery life. Dave.

I am surprised not to have come across any negative reviews on this phone. I've had it since just June 2009 & have needed to get it replaced twice due to the screen scrambling, rendering it inoperable. Its only December & now it's happened again. I'll be asking for a different model now, otherwise I'll have to change service provider. It also seems to have very limited memory space.

Hi, I came here to share my honest opinion on this long waited for phone. It's not for me, hence the low scores. The keypads are too small for texting, so, very frustrating. Camera clarity poorish. Steel case, cold & uninviting, hard & slippery to the touch.

Now, don't take my word for it, as you can see from the reviews it is suiting many, but, if you like a nice clear Web & photos & your senses hate steel stay well away. Downloaded photos are not too bad though. If you love texting, beware, the keypads are irksome to use & gives a tedious sense to typing. I really wanted this phone to be ay OK, but not for me, I wouldn't choose this model.

I've had my Nokia 6300 for a year & a half now, & it's been a great phone for me. I use it a lot (I am the typical teenager who sends around 250 texts & spends an hour on calls a day! ) & the battery lasts me around 2 days if I fully charge it (I've found if you just leave it till it tells you it's fully charged, it lasts 1, but leaving it for a few extra hours overnight means it lasts much longer).

I've dropped this phone multiple times, & apart from a few minor scratches, it's undamaged.

If you want a phone that will let you have lots of pictures & songs, this is probably not the best phone for you, however, as the camera is 2 mp & not that great in dull light, & the memory isn't brilliant without an SD card either. In the last few months I've had a problem with the 7 & 9 keys sticking a little, but not very much, & I've put it down to age & overuse.

If like me you just want a resilient phone for texting & calling, with the occasional picture of song, this phone is brilliant.

I have been using this phone for the last 2 years almost. I found this very good, very user friendly (as always been with Nokia) except a few things.

- the steel body gets hot & it's quite uncomfortable, is it because of the steel case or is it some technical fault?

- the steel rim front frame came off lately. Tried many means to attach or glue it, no luck. At the moment I put a band over the phone to keep it in place. Has anyone got a remedy for this.

Thanks.

This phone is fantastic! I have had it for well over a year now, & I love it so much I bought an identical one whilst mine was being repaired for a minor fault (so minor I can't remember what it was now). When my current phone eventually dies I will then be able to use the spare one straight away. It looks stylish, is easy to use & the camera is great. Photos are slightly grainy when taken indoors under electric lighting but otherwise the quality is excellent. The video works well too, as does the record feature. I use the calendar all the time to remind me of appointments etc. I have downloaded ringtones for the calendar alarm, call ring tone & message ringtone thus making my handset truly unique. You can also record your own messages & use them for a ringtone. The memory is great, currently I have over 1, 000 text messages on it, over 100 contacts on SIM memory & 101 photos on the memory card. It might be worth noting that it is resilient too, during the first week I had it I dropped it down the loo. I expected that to be the end of it, but after taking all the removable bits out (battery, SIM, memory card etc) & drying it out with a hairdryer, hey presto! It worked as well as new. (This was months before it went in for repair).

It's brilliant & I will keep using it until it gives up the ghost.

Great phone, all of the features.

- Except the battery. This is really a disappointment, as my standby time of my previous Nokia was 1.5 week, often without ever turning it off, even during nights. I am considering replacing my battery with a BL 5C. A few questions, I haven't read anywhere with how many hours or days it extends the standby time & whether this actually works. Does it damage your phone in any way? I know you have to scrape off a small piece of the battery plastic, but I am talking about damage on your phone. & what are the specifications of the BL 5C & in what way is it better than a 4C?

- the sound in general is pretty good, but unfortunately I sometimes hear echoes, even if I turn the volume down to minimum. Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks! Suss.

There's probably more to it BUT it meets all my needs. Only problem is battery life which is limited.

I am fed up of this phone now. I bought it last year in Jan & over the past 2 months it's troubling me a lot. I didn't have many problems with battery life as I am not bothered about it but the main problem is that it gets switched OFF on its own & than it will keep on restarting again & again. That happens while messaging or talking or even while simply keeping it in a pocket. Have repaired it twice from Nokia Care & they have surrendered too. Recently it has deleted all the default tones, wallpapers & themes on its own.

This phone is perfect. I bought it to replace my thrashed 7 year old Nokia 6100 which sadly died. The 6300 seems to be a natural replacement for the 6100 & I just love it. The case is mainly thin stainless steel case so it is a very slim phone. There is no annoying creaking of the case while texting.

The Nokia 6100 was one of the easiest phones I have had for texting but the 6300 is even better. The keys are a good size so there is no accidental hitting another key. The operating system is nice & fast &, typical of Nokia, easy to navigate through the menus. Predictive text is so easy & great for remembering added words.

I want a phone for making calls, texting, email & as a diary. The 6300 is perfect for all these. It does have many more features which I will no doubt use over time like the MP3 player, camera, surfing the net, etc.

The Bluetooth works perfectly with a Nokia Bluetooth hands-free kit & is so easy to set up a Bluetooth device.

Nokia have done a fantastic job with this phone by keeping it simple & true to Nokia tradition. I only hope it lasts as long as my 6100 but, judging by the reviews I have read, I am confident it will.

I've had mine 19 months & it keeps cutting out on me during calls & texts, as well as losing charge on the battery (lasts less than 1 day now). I simply can't use it anymore & I am looking for a replacement. My friend has similar problems with her Nokia 6300.

I still have my previous Nokia (6100) which lasted me years. I replaced that one because of battery problems but it's now more reliable than my newer phone!

I've noticed one or two other reviews where there has been a similar problem. Any ideas?

I bought one of these from Carphone Warehouse as they are unlocked for any UK network. As it was about £40 it was a bargain. I was in the middle of a contract with Orange & had the Sony W890i (6) of them & was so frustrated I sold the Sony on eBay & used the money to get the Nokia. It's so much better. Read other people's reviews on the Sony & you will know why. What can I say about the Nokia. It's a Nokia, it does exactly what it says on the tin. The finish is nice, stainless steel, yes it does mark easily but put a crystal case on it & this will solve the problem. It does everything I need including emailing without problems. Yes the battery life is poor but most colour screen phones these days are the same. The camera is average but this phone is more geared for business use like the earlier 6310.Its not a trendy kids phone it's a business tool. The flashing blue LED is very handy when on silent as it alerts you of missed calls, emails or texts & continues to flash until you read it so you don't have to pick it up & hit a button to see if you have messages. I only have one problem with this phone & that is texting with predictive. I found this phone a little poor at remembering simple words, sometimes if the word is not known you spell it manually & the phone should remember it but it will forget & some words you will have to input manually every single time even proper words I.e. Non slang or abbreviations. This is my only gripe. I have had this since Nov 2008 & my conclusion is this phone is stylish, reliable & rugged.

It may not be the best phone ever or the worse phone ever but it's still a good phone & I think it great plus it fairly easy to use.

Bought my 6300 in June 2008 from my local Orange shop & pleased with the phones functions etc but I have to say how poor the battery is, seemed to be forever charging it. The screen has since packed up & I took it to a Nokia Care centre who told me that moisture had got in, so it isn't covered by warranty which I checked the exclusions & it is so. Not being electronically minded I don't know if it has or hasn't but it seems a very handy get out for Nokia, so beware if you return your phone for repair you may get the same tale whatever the fault! Shaken my confidence in Nokia.

After starting my mobile phone life with, among others, the seminal Nokia 5110 (nk402 on Orange) & the truly legendary 8210, I was a lifelong Nokia fan. Until last time my contract was up for renewal & a free Nintendo Wii tempted me to get a Sony Ericsson. Great little phone, the Sony, but I must admit to missing the ease of use of Sony phones.

This time (& tempted by a PS3) I switched back to Nokia with the 6300 in chocolate brown. & I am very glad to be back. I dropped a few features compared to my previous phone, but frankly I just want a phone that makes & receives calls well &, is easy to use & is small & smart. The Nokia 6300 ticks all the boxes. I read some reviews of more expensive Nokia phones & it seems to me that the company are still struggling with the high end market, & are losing share. It strikes me that their strength lies with phones like the 6300, namely simple, well designed phones that do what it says in the tin, but do it very well indeed.

The interface is classic Nokia, quick & user intuitive. The call quality is excellent. Texting can be a little tricky to get used to as the keys are flat & small, but once you're used to it, it's not a problem. Battery life isn't great but just stick it on charge overnight every night & it stops being an issue. I use mine very lightly & one charge can make it through four days or more, which is perfectly respectable. The blue lights to alert of texts or missed calls are an excellent touch, especially for someone like me who has their phone on silent 24 7. The camera is fine for snaps, although a flash of some sort would have been a very welcome addition, & the only thing I miss from my old Sony.

All in all, I think it's a cracking little phone & while every man & his dog seems to have one, the nice matte metallic brown colour makes mine a little bit special to me. I love it!

Easy to text, large screen, Battery life is OK, not great but not terrible either.

The camera is good in daylight but is rubbish at night, & it would be better with a flash.

I find my phone extremely hard to switch on, sometimes it would take me half an hour trying to turn it on, because the button wasn't very good.

Quite often I would find my phone going on to a white screen & turning off (which annoyed me because then I had to spend all that time turning it on again).

But overall the phone was OK.

I had this phone for just over a year. My mate bought one at the same time. His kept dying with a white flashing screen & then switched off. Sometimes during calls, & he said it got hot, he changed it several times but each one did the same.

Had a few other friends tried the same phone & most had the same problem. Mine seem to work OK so stuck with it. I liked its ease of use & slim design. Last week someone sent me a Bluetooth picture & my phone didn't like it. Switch it on Nokia logo comes up but then it flashes white & switches off,
guess it's a software problem which most new Nokia's have. Don't think I'll buy another Nokia until they get their act back together.

Although this is not a bad phone, there's nothing particularly interesting about it. It's a bit like a Skoda, it looks fine, it does its job fine, but there's nothing that really sets it apart from the rest. The software for example is a bit dull, occasionally unintuitive & sometimes flawed. Not up to what some of its competitors offer. The camera is fine, music software is Okay, but then still not much on what a Walkman has to offer.

So basically, this is a fine phone that does its job, but if you want to move away from the Skoda's & into a Mercedes. Buy a Sony Ericsson or similar.

Hope that helped, James.

Have a good camera & the features are good in comparison of the newest phones! The quality of the photos are good, but no the best! I think that the only thing that is missing is the flash! I've had my Nokia 6300 for 2 years. It's time for an upgrade but I am sorely tempted just to get another one as I've been so happy with it. Occasionally the volume & tone is a little tinny but when I think of the constant use it's had (including being dropped several times from great heights on building sites! ) it's absolutely brilliant. I've researched all sorts of other phones but I keep coming back to my trusty 6300. The battery life is fine, I use it constantly & charge it every other day or so. It's neat, lightweight, easy to use & looks good, 10 out of 10 for me.

Overall this mobile is a fantastic one for me, I use it daily, but I do need to charge it every few days, but apart from the poor battery life it hasn't caused me many problems.

Also the camera isn't fantastic but when you switch the night mode on picture quality becomes better.

With each phone it comes with all sorts of different games. This has been a very good choice of phone for me & does all that you can imagine.

I have read some of the negative reviews below & agree that the battery life is a weak area but certainly is not that bad. With regards to some of the other complaints they clearly have just been unlucky.

I have had 3 of these 6300 & if you want a great mobile that performs well & looks great then go for one of these.

DO NOT BUY A Nokia PHONE I bought a Nokia 6300 December 2007. I had a problem with it in April 2008 so I took it back. They fixed it, at least that's what I thought I then had the same problem August, so I sent it back I then got it back 3 weeks later & turned the phone on & it STILL had the same problem. At this point I was furious with Nokia & I sent back the phone, they returned & said it needed charging. I then turned the phone on & it still had the same problem. They then replaced my phone with a refurbished phone. I thought this was a good thing until I turned the phone on! It wouldn't read any SIM card! I then took it back again asking for a new phone, they said that that is not there policy, so they fixed this phone. All they did was clean it & when I got it back it was STILL broken. After arguing with the head of Nokia for 5 weeks, they replaced the phone!

I have had this phone for over two months now, & the only problem has been battery life, my old phone lasted 7 days, this only lasted 2 or 3 at the most. A quick fix for any of you out there, the phone uses Nokia's BLC4 battery, but if you replace it with a BLC5 battery (try eBay) then you get 5 or 6 days battery life. The only thing you have to do is trim a bit of the plastic away from the end with the contacts, so that it fits into the phone.

This phone has lovely blue lights which flash when you get a call or text brilliant feature, they continue to flash for missed call or text so if your phone is on silent or in your bag you will see it. My phone has never overheated while I have been on a call. Also my battery lasts 3 to 4 days.

I would definitely recommend this phone!

I have it since May. My sister has had two (first lasted five months & second lasted less than four months.) I thought she was unlucky with her first so I bought mine when she got her second one as it's a nice looking phone, neat & small. Camera okay outside while very bright.

However.

- Over heats after 5 minutes on a call. Burns your ear.

- Battery life awful. I charge it every night just so it'll last the day. (I don't over use it either)

- Sometimes it can take hours, days & often not at all to get text messages.

- Some phone don't come through & friends are put straight to voicemail even though I have full reception. It's the same with trying to make calls.

- the phone starts to browse on its own. Sometimes while on the table in front of me, it decides to go online.

- My messages often send twice or more & uses my credit.

- the back cover was very difficult to take off initially, but now it comes off at any given opportunity.

I have been suffering headaches for last few months (& reassign below, I now know why).

The MOST ANNOYING OF ALL THOUGH. The 6300 FREEZES & GOES ALL WHITE (all but the time & reception icons) IT STAYS LIKE THAT FOR A FEW MINS & THEN GOES BACK TO NORMAL. It doesn't safe the message that you may have been almost finished typing & then have to start all over again.

So if I am lucky enough for somebody to get through to me without being put to voicemail, I am going to have a burning ear & chances are that the screen will freeze cutting off the call & then go white taking ages to start up again.

To sum up. Sometimes it's not all about looks, we need substance too!

I've had this phone for about a year now, & the main criticism I have relates to the screen. In external daylight it's virtually impossible to read anything due to the poor colour density. This is fine indoors, but outside very poor. I purchased a hard clip on case, but although this provides life saving physical protection to the handset, it still allow that fine dust which seems to congregate in pockets, to permeate its way into the phone & further deteriorate the screen appearance. To cap it all the screen marks VERY easily must be really soft plastic.

If you can ignore the above then the phone is pretty good at what it does. You may read, on various websites, advice that poor battery life is a thing of the past. You only have to read the reviews to see that modern phone batteries may have got technically better, but manufacturers then take this as an opportunity to slim them down, dropping the performance back to that of the previous generation. This phone is just the same, recharge it every other day or it'll let you down.

I have had this phone now for 15 months & I am about to upgrade. When I first got it, I was disappointed with the battery life, I keep my phone on 24 7 & use it quite a bit for calls each day, I was having to charge it up everyday which was annoying. I bought a BL 5C battery which is slightly thicker than the standard battery but if you shave a bit of the plastic away at the terminal end you can make it fit. This improved the battery performance. The camera isn't great but that's never bothered me because I use it as a phone only.

Overall I think this is a great phone, it looks good, it's simple to use & it's pretty robust, I have dropped mine a few times & it hardly even marked it. I have had Nokia's for years & this has been my favourite.

Each time I receive a new one, within a couple of months the screen starts to flash white & disconnect either of its own accord, mid way through a phone call or writing a text message or whilst listening to a song.

It then loses all signal & takes ages to reboot itself, sometimes I have to take the battery out as it just completely freezes.

Thank goodness O2 have offered me a different model as a replacement after all the problems I have had.

After almost getting the Sony Ericsson K800i, I change my mind & got the Nokia 6300 with the help of the sale consultant, & I am glad I did. It does almost everything, & I mean almost. I will go on to the negatives later. I use the phone for everything, Listening to music, Browsing the web, taking pictures & videos, playing & downloading games & downloading my drawing & artwork from my USB, which I had to get separate which was kind of poor.

I use my artwork as a portfolio to show clients & people my work.

The negative is that the battery life is poor but have gotten used to charging my Phone everyday or almost every day.

Also it's not a 3G phone which yes I did download a clip of Heroes on my phone through the BBC mobile site & going to Facebook & other websites no problem, It's not 3G & watching YouTube videos is almost impossible.

Other than that, it's a great phone. Now I am not sure what phone to get for my upgrade, as I seen mixed reviews for the N96. I still want a Nokia Multimedia Smartphone though, any suggestion.

The only real problem is the battery life, like on my old 5300 & 6230i I had before. That is the only criticism I have for the phone.

What I think is brilliant about this phone is that it is a tough little thing. Today it fell out of my pocket, landed upside down. I found this model Nokia 6300 with its bright & brilliant display &, supposed to be, really tough & protective stainless steel casing very attractive, so, I bought it 6 months back.

As with others the battery gives a very low backup, I had to charge it every night & if I need to travel I am sorry but my new phone doesn't keep up with me & the battery dies out overnight.

Other features, Thumbs up!

But, I have a serious concern about its stainless steel casing. The casing is glued on a plastic panel where the display & the keypads are mounted. The stainless steel casing FALLS OFF within warranty period. Mind you! Nokia doesn't cover its warranty to this glue. & don't ever ask a Nokia Care executive about why it falls off. You will be convicted of dropping your much cared Mobile Phone.

As all reviewers will surely agree with me, the phone gets heated very soon. &, which is what I suppose failed the glue. Anyway that's my reasoning because in my case I have not dropped my phone.

So, repairing is surely what one would want? But the repairing cost is AWFUL! An Rs 7400 mobile phone would cost one an amazing Rs 800 (or more as they say) to simply glue back your stainless steel casing. NO WARRANTY AGAIN!

In fact DURABILITY is also a good factor to review. & I am too poor to change mobile phones every 6 months. So I take SERIOUS NOTE ON THIS.

BE ADVISED! DO NOT GO FOR THIS MODEL OR YOU MIGHT END UP WHOPPING OFF A SUM OF Rs. 1000 EVERY SIX MONTHS TO KEEP YOUR MOBILE PHONE INTACT. & THAT'S MORE THAN 10% OF ITS COST.

Oh! Bye the way, I will Boast mine is more Costly than any other's Nokia 6300 ;-)

Hi, I have had a Nokia 6230 (to me Nokia died the day they made this phone). A fantastic phone which has had plenty of abuse (dropped hundreds of times, put in a pint of beer, sat on, kicked, thrown by mistake etc).

After 3.5 years it's time to move on. Being a fussy old person I decided to check out something that would replace it for the next 3.5 years, after being offered lots of opinions of phones, I bought the 6300. It is a great phone & replacement for me. The two main features of a phone for me are reception & long battery life. This has both, for those that are moaning about the battery do me a favour & take a fiver out of your pocket & buy a new one. It's not that difficult & you'll stop whinging about the battery (LOL! ). Menus, usability, clarity etc is all there.

Looks are fine, even after being on the market for such a long time. It's a testament to the phone. For those that are thinking of this, think no more just get it now! Even a second hand one will be good value, spend another few quid down the market & you'll get nice covers for it, job done.

Now, I just have to wait for another 3.5 years for the next one ;).

Nice design to look, practically everything that you need in phone, business, entertainment etc. The camera quality is not that super. But for me it is fine. I have a small canon Ixus digital, as small as a cigarette pack, & no phone or even many cameras can match its photo quality. I do not like taking important pictures on a phone camera. For some silly picture, this is fine. If you are very serious about photo quality, try K800i of Sony. Superb, they say.

6300 has a clean sophisticated look, excellent screen, usual Nokia ease in everything. The 1000 contacts list & huge records list of calls in & out, are features very important to me.

On the minus, the keypads are very nice & very much usable, but there's a hint of hardness. Overall a fantastic & safe buy.

The battery performance is bad big time & I am trying to get this phone replaced ASAP.

Get the W880i, far far better phone.

Is the short battery life thing true on the 6300? Which one should I buy? Thanks.

Recently purchased the Samsung Armani touch phone after putting up with it for 4 months & its turning on & off besides the fact that whenever I called anyone they told me I sounded as though I was underwater I decided a cheap simple phone was the way to go. I went to the shop & the sales assistant showed me this in chocolate brown & it's stylish but above all I can now text & hear people. On the downside now people can hear me they keep ringing me! Love it & the fact that it has a memory card means I can transfer all pictures & music from my other phone. Yes battery is a bit short lived but my Samsung was the same & I just stick on charge every night no big deal. Funny how times change my first ever phone was a Nokia ten years ago, just like fashion what goes round soon comes round again!

I was the proud owner of one of these beauties for roughly three months. This was my first slightly more multi functional phone, as I have a tendency to lose my phone on this island. Mine seem to grow fins & make dash for the ocean, a sad loss, in the denial stage. Think I might treat myself & buy another. Though I do agree that its voice was shy & it's proved to be a slippery customer.

When my faithful old 6310i began showing signs of old age, I looked about for a replacement phone & met the 6300. I was smitten immediately with its sleek elegance. I simply couldn't WAIT to get my hands on one permanently, & after a few months of it. I just love it! The battery it came with seemed to need a great deal of recharging & drove me nuts at first, but the replacement one I purchased for it seems just fine, 4 days worth of normal calls in & out, texting, the odd photo & download to laptop, Bluetooth connection to Nokia car kit (works perfectly too, not had a single incident of feedback) & the very occasional trip online. I have not yet used the radio or MPV player. I bought a crystal case for it, as I think it's much too swish to hide in a black leather one. I don't find the keys too small at all. It lies beautifully in the hand & I can thumb the keypad easily. I found it very easy to get to know & had a lovely time testing out all the features, even the ones I shall never use. Nice one Nokia. Well done. I shall keep this one until it dies of old age.

Really bad buy! Please do not buy this phone. It overheats within seconds because of the stainless steel panel, causing ear ache or headaches. Voice blurs & receptivity goes down. Literally a health hazard! I've always had Nokia phones before, but this was the worst buy so far, looks can be deceptive. I wrote to Nokia care & they said the phone meets international standards, wonder which international board gave the phone a go! I think this phone should be discontinued, very disappointed.

A bit of advice to CJ in London, why don't you go into settings & turn the flashing blue light off if it bothers you so much!

To everyone else, it's a cracking little phone, had mine a year & it's still as good as new! Solid features, easy to use, in fact if you can't use it put it back in the box & give it to someone else!

Stick a micro SD in it & you've got more memory than you can shake a stick at. 10 out of 10 from me.

I have had the pleasure of the 6300 for the last 11 months & am now going through the process of choosing an upgrade & am seriously considering just getting another 6300. Maybe I've been lucky but I've had absolutely no problems what so ever with this phone.

It's a great looking phone & as a business user I find the sophisticated look exactly what I want. I make & take numerous calls in a day & send around 20 texts a day & received about the same, granted the battery takes a hammering but guess what, I just put it on charge for a few hours in the evening when I get home & its fine.

Call quality has always been excellent. With regard to the features, I've never used it as a music player & the camera is used for work & does the job, easily transferred to PC. In my opinion if you want a fantastic music player get an iPod, if you want fantastic pictures use your digital camera! Camera phones are there to catch the moment, that's all.

I can understand that this phone is not for the 'image conscious bling bling I've got loads of money but no style boys' but if you want a serious no nonsense stylish phone then you won't go far wrong with the 6300.

Let's start by saying it's a good, hardy phone. It's not all singing & dancing but at the grand old age of 29, that's fine by me. Oh & it feels nice too, take that as you please.

The main problem is the battery life. I on average send a few texts per day, which is enough to send the battery down to the half way mark. God forbid someone calls me, game over! It's particularly tricky when arranging to meet a group of people on a night out. After 3 phone calls I literally have to hang up on people mid sentence for fear of the battery dying.

The short battery life could possibly be due to the flashing blue light which goes off constantly whenever a text comes in or a call is missed. Until you acknowledge it, it will flash desperately well, like a flasher. It's visible through jeans & has even managed to annoy people off in the cinema when my thigh glows blue. Not sure of the point of this, it's especially unhelpful when you are trying not to be mugged. Don't keep valuables on display they say, having a flashing blue leg in the dark in not very inconspicuous.

Another gripe is the charger. They break very easily & I've had to replace mine 5 times, in fact the one supplied in the box by Nokia didn't even work.

Something else I've experienced is that Mr.6300 really does not like me talking for more than 5 minutes. Originally I thought it was the mobile belonging to the person I was calling or bad signal. Not so. You will get used to people calling you back & saying what happened there mate, why did you cut me off.?

It does heat up, but let's face it, in this country it's a blessing in Winter to have a warm ear. You get what you pay for with this phone, it is very good value for money & is still working after a year. What more could you ask for?

I have been using this phone for exactly one year now. It's extremely simple to use. Looks are classy if you like the minimalist look. The metal case is extremely pleasing to have.

Features are basic & no-nonsense. Radio & Music are very good to hear on the headphones, but not so much without them on the loudspeaker.

Photos need good lighting, else they may turn out to be grainy. Videos are just about OK. Ditto with the voice recorder.

What makes it an executive phone, is the USB connection. You can connect it to your PC or laptop, & do whatever you want, even send SMS while connected. If you have a large file, & do not have a pen drive, you can use the memory card to store that file, & transfer it between your office PC & home laptop or PC.

My son uses the phone every day, & changes themes, settings, plays games, so accessing the functions are all child's play.

I remember reading that this phone was made by Nokia for people who like to use a good phone for 2 to 3 years. I guess it's achieved that.

In answer to Rumana from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

If the red button you are talking about in the one located on the top of the phone, with a red circle with a bar in the middle, then you need to know that this is the power on, power off button. If you mean the right hand lower button, black with a little dash red line through it, well this is the cancel or go back or close application & go back to main menu' button. As for the messaging, TEXT messaging is for TEXT ONLY, I repeat, TEXT ONLY. If you want to send images, you must select the MULTIMEDIA messages & if you want to send an audio file (song or other) select AUDIO message. The cancel button, you just have to press the back button, which is the top right hand button with a blue dash through it or hold the bottom right button with a red dash line through it. Most phones come with an instruction manual & they do so because it is helpful, please read the instruction manual as it may have answered most of these questions & problems you mention of. & you don't need to throw the phone, but maybe you should.

Anyways, it may not be the best & greatest phone but it works fine. The only problem I encountered so far is that when you use a picture taken from the camera as wallpaper it cannot be in full screen, it only appears in the middle, about 50% of the screen size. It is true that the volume at its maximum is not always loud enough, especially if there are surrounding sounds & having to make the person repeat gets annoying, but I can live with it. I gave lower rating to the design because it does not look nice, the main square button is hard to use for people with large fingers (like my boyfriend) & the glass of the camera is very fragile, broke right away, even if I am careful & had a protective cover, that did not cover the camera to allow to take picture. Otherwise, it works fine & does what I expect it to do, BE A PORTABLE TELEPHONE. I hate phone that take pride in having so many options & high technology, but then nothing works properly. I rather have a simple phone that can do just that, phone. Thanks.

Exceptionally straightforward to use, looks brilliant & has a fully functional MP3 player with iPod like scan facilities (Artists, Albums. Etc).

By far the best phone in its price range, I had a Nokia Prism, to be honest if just annoyed me! Triangular keys, a big no no!

Anyway if you are confused whether to get it or not, buy the phone. You won't regret it.

& as for some of you below, you can adjust EQ, & night mode is a suitable alternative to flash!

Hi, I bought the 6300 in August 2007 & use it as a secondary, professional device (transfer of my office line) plus occasional SMS sending.

On the upside, the 6300 does its job very well, battery life is about 1 week, rather good network sensibility, perfect sync to my PC (PC Suite & Vista), gorgeous screen, BT link with my headset in the car, ease of use, the shortcut menu.

On the downside, the contact search ONLY works using the contact's first part of the surname, no matter how you store them in Outlook, on my E90 I just key in any part of a contact's name (Christian, first or second surname. ). You will need to remember the surnames of your contacts, this may be cumbersome.

Since I am not too much concerned with bells & whistles (music, photos, etc.) & don't use them, I cannot comment on them. I think the 6300's design is elegant, but this is 100% subjective. I don't have any problem with the size of its keys.

The phone has never crashed, & I keep it in a crystal plastic case to protect it from scratches (adds 1mm to 2mm in depth but protects very well). I dropped it quite a few times & it keeps working fine.

To sum it up, the 6300 has proven reliable, easy to use, & rather sturdy. If you need a phone to make & receive calls & use it with a minimum of care this one will not let you down. I do recommend its purchase.

So you have to go to option first, then find delete after 6 or 7 options, then select it & finally press 'yes'. It's not louder enough & does not support picture in text massage format but you will be able to receive pictures in this format. I have just got my Nokia 6300, I got an upgrade to a Samsung SGH U600 last week & although it looked very nice it drove me mad, couldn't get on with it at all, I had to go all round the houses to do the most basic things, more annoying than that was the touch screen buttons which meant it is far too easy to call people by accident as this button is right where your thumb naturally rests. What it did was very pretty & lovely but it just made me angry! I want a phone that is useable! Anyway, the T Mobile shop kindly let me change it to a Nokia 6300 & I am really, really happy with it, it is very useable, It's true it doesn't have all the whistles & bells the U600 did but it does everything I need it to & looks good, it's comfortable to hold & I definitely recommend it.

Only let downs are, the ringtone volume could do with being a bit louder, I find some things on it are a bit hard to find, I thought there were no games on it but there are, there are three but they are quite hidden, also the battery is not great but how difficult is it to plug it in every 2 to 3 days? I don't mind that at all. Before this phone I had a Sony Ericsson K580i which I did like & was happy with but it started going wrong after 18 months (which is good going really) & I hoped to find a phone as easy to use which this Nokia definitely is.

I recommend it to anyone thinking about it. Quite possibly the best phone I've ever had which is why I've taken the time to write this & let you know how happy I am with it :).

Other people complaining about the battery, well if you use the phone for a long time then the battery is going to be low.

For the people who are complaining about the phone heating up, only does that if you charge & use the phone at the same time for a long time, which any phone would do that.

Everyone else complaining about miner things are need to get understand that nothing is perfect so deal with it, this phone is one of the best phones I ever have had, been using it since it came out & still plan on using it for many more years to come, everything about it is good, it's nice & simple, easy to use.

A lot of people complain about the battery running out after 1 day. Doesn't that just mean that you are using it a lot which means that it is a good phone & does what it supposed to do? If the key pad is too small then get hand surgery to reduce your hand size. Who ever said it is quiet is incorrect. It's the loudest phone I have heard in a while & I have had a fair few.

Would definitely suggest buying. Great phone but some people are argumentative & want to complain about every little thing in life!

Brilliant phone if not a little Nokia like in its style. I love it because it is sleek, functional & has not let me down once in 6 months of usage.

The thing with choosing a new phone is don't be put off by other people's bad reviews. I have been looking for another handset because I get bored easily & as I have this phone for another 12 months on contract I want to be able to change it when I get bored.

People will always have problems with any handset & they are the unlucky ones. I like the look of the Nokia 7373 but there is a mix of very good reviews & some not so good but this is the same with the Sony Ericsson w580i too. I liked the look of this in pink but people keep saying that the keys crack easily.

I am on O2 so will get my other phone from their website, that way I can go in to the shop locally if I do have problems & hopefully they can sort it out quicker than if I buy it from an solely Internet trader.

If you listened to all the bad reviews on phone handsets you would not buy anything at all. Pot luck usually dictates a faulty phone & if the seller is reputable they should fix this easily & at no cost to you if still in warranty.

Anyhow, I digress somewhat. This phone I highly recommend.

I upgraded from my 4 year old Nokia 6100 & couldn't be more pleased. The 6300 is a lovely looking phone, sleek & very stylish.

I didn't think I would ever listen to music on a phone but now that I can, I do! It detects any new music you put which is very easy to do either with the Nokia PC software (using Bluetooth with my laptop)or just by going into My Computer & dragging & dropping into your Nokia music folder, all you then have to do is update the music library.

The phone does not come with a USB cable but I ordered one for 99p plus postage on eBay, in case I am using my older computer which doesn't have Bluetooth.

Great clear sound quality, on the radio as well. A word of advice when using the Nokia software don't ask it to convert to mobile optimising format, this is AAC & does not sound good, although takes up a fraction of the memory. Keep the music files as MP3, you won't get as much on but the sound quality is heaps better.

Another feature I like is putting a photo of your friends & family in the contacts so when they ring, their picture comes up! Now if only they would ring me!

I've set up my own most used shortcuts, there is a nifty Go to button which you can personalise with what you want, e.g. Lock Keypad, Switch Bluetooth on & off etc.

The battery life does not seem great, but then for the first few days I did have the Bluetooth switched on permanently. Now I put it on only when I need to use it which has helped, but the battery does still seem to run down more quickly than on my old Nokia, however this could well be because I am using it a lot more.

All in all, delighted with this phone & will never again have anything but a Nokia (I sent back a Samsung J600 which I did not like, see separate review).

I am about to replace this phone as I now work on the basis that it's best to change each year regardless, the parents inherit each old phone for a further year's use. This is the first one that I'll be sad to see the back of. It has been reliable (good news for the oldies! ) & a very accomplished performer. I am struggling to know what to replace it with a Nokia 6500 Classic is favourite, although a 7900 Prism is also in the running but think that might be all style & no substance.

The 6300 is sleek & it the only phone I have owned that people comment on & admire, it is also very well built despite the fact it is quite slim & not bulky. 3 people in the office now have one. The functions are easy to use & it just seems to work. No issues at all.

I am asking myself why I am replacing it to be honest.

This being my sixth Nokia after having tried Samsung, Motorola & Sony Ericsson I can only say it is probably one of the best phones if not the best I have used, the only real issue I have with it & that is when using the Bluetooth hands-free, there tends to be a bit of an echo in the background & I am unable to answer via voice command other than that, it's a good phone.

I upgraded almost a year ago from a Motorola RAZR V3i to the Nokia 6300, & quite honestly I miss my old phone. I can't fault the Nokia though. I have to admit that Nokia's are usually great quality phones & very user friendly, & this is certainly true of the 6300. But some reason I find it just a bit dull. I like phones with style, & the 6300 is a bit plain & square for me. The only other gripe I'd have is that the keys are tiny, so if you have big hands like me you'll often end up pressing two buttons at once when texting, which is irritating.

If you like a phone that will stand out in a crowd, my advice would be to go with Samsung or Motorola. However, if you like Nokia's & aren't really fussed about having a good looking phone, then the 6300 is a good solid choice.

This is a great little phone, simple to use both in terms of its user interface & decent sized keys; & by choosing a matt finish for the stainless steel casing panels Nokia have avoided the 6300 being difficult to keep looking clean, something that afflicts Nokia's own much more expensive 8800 range.

To address some of the common criticisms, the reason that the 6300 seems to get hot in use is that it's made of steel, & metal conducts the heat generated by using the phone more than the plastics used in most phones. I am prone to headaches, but I have found no additional ill effects from using the 6300 than with any other phone.

Many people criticise the battery life, the 6300 uses a thin, lightweight battery to allow the ultra slim design, so battery life is a little lower than average, but far too many people judge a phone by the talk & standby times quoted in the specs, like all modern phones, to if you want to conserve battery life make sure that Bluetooth & GPRS are not permanently active, & remember that the using the multimedia features are also drains on the available power. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT FOLLOW the ADVICE OF SOME REVIEWERS HERE & FIT the LARGER BL5C BATTERY, this battery is too large for the 6300, forcing such a battery into a phone not designed accommodate it will invalidate your warranty, risk damaging the phone & potentially present risks to your own safety.

The 6300 is great as a music player, the sound is clear through the loudspeaker & through the supplied headphones. I can only imagine that those who complain about volume have already destroyed their eardrums using MP3 players made before legislation restricted the number of decibels permitted to be pumped directly into the human ear. A big downside is that you can't create playlists via the inbuilt music player, you have to connect to your PC or laptop & use the Music Manager software provided with the phone to do this. One advantage of the Music manager is the ability to convert MP3 files into M4A format, which is just as good in terms of sound quality whilst occupying much less memory space.

Video playback on the large, clear, 16m colour screen is excellent, but you're best sticking to 3GP formats. Current software versions of the software can play MP4 files, but only MP4 & H.264, & even then not always reliably.

The preinstalled ringtones are a lacklustre collection, even the Nokia ringtone is a rather insipid version than you find on some models. If you bury you phone in a pocket or handbag, choice of ringtone is as important to hearing the phone ring as the volume.

The 2MP camera takes crisp, clear photos in good light conditions, & the night mode improves things a little in poor light, though the lack of a flash does limit the photographic abilities of the phone.

There is one circumstance in which I would not recommend the 6300, & that is if you use Bluetooth headsets or car kits, the 6300 has issues with such devices & call quality can be blighted by echoes.

I have had this phone now for 3 months & it does exactly what it says on the box. Having bought this to replace my Motorola I can only sing its praises. The 2 megapixel camera is more than adequate for a phone & if I want to take good pictures I use my canon slr! As for the MP3 player I thought this was a good idea until I tried to use my phone for a call & discovered I used most of the battery (don't get a lot of calls! ) so ditch that for a proper MP3 player.

I think this phone is well designed & thought out. If you are in the market for a new phone, go on buy one.

I have recently purchased Nokia 6300, & think it's great, having previously worked for Nokia Customer Service, I am surprised to see so many poor & negative reviews, relating to the complaints of the Nokia 6300 & I have to laugh & prompt the question, Try before you buy.

Like Music it's down to personal choice & taste, what you look for in a phone whether you use it for Calls, Texts, Camera, music etc, yes you may have problems & issues with the handset with new technology nothing is guaranteed.

As long as you can make calls & send texts, after all it is a Mobile Phone, people forget with so many features on the phone uses power so power may not last as long as per the specs, the specs states purely if the phone is idle & power can last up to that period of time, also requires an initial 14 hour charge when first bought before use with the phone switched off & repeat this process at least once a month let the power run down completely this will maintain a healthy battery life, so many have told me over the years that they don't, this is where the battery life/power issues come into play.

As previous reviews state if you want the best quality in camera, MP3 player, Bluetooth etc you can buy separate devices in which this can be enhanced to your satisfaction, these features are merely an added bonus to the phone.

It would be nice to read more positive reviews on products as the old saying is too many people remember the negatives opinions & are quick to voice them rather than the positives.

In the last 10 years I have had a number of Nokia handsets where they have lasted for 3 to 4 years, I personally think how the phone is used by the owner is the main issue.

Having lived with an ancient Siemens A50 for five years, I am amazed how the technology advanced! It does all what is advertised & even a bit more (after I found & installed Java applications for making ebook midlets & for reading PDFs), & looks good, too. The only minor flaw is the design of the USB port cover, which is difficult to open. Contrary to Nokia's assertions, the connection to PC works fine with a non Nokia USB cable.

I do not experience the battery or heating problems, battery lasts for 3 days of moderate use (a couple of short calls & some SMS per they, some 30 to 50 minutes of ebook, PDF reading while commuting, use of the organiser, a bit of playing with the camera since the phone is still a new toy). My husband, who also has a 6300, experiences the same.

The phone gets warm but not unpleasantly hot during calls, maybe due to the good thermal conductivity of the metal body.

Other peoples complaints seem to suggest that there may be a bad batch of batteries in some 6300s (which fits both the short life & heating issue), but if this is the case, we have been obviously lucky.

I got this a sensible replacement to my Pink RAZR which broke after many years service. I chose it for all the reasons a grown up person should chose a phone, durability, ease of use & practicality. I was very disappointed & replaced it after a few days, initially I noticed the screen was damaged & then that it got very hot during calls, only around 10 to 20 minutes long. I couldn't understand the functions very easily, the sound was crackly during a call & the camera quality was really bad. On the plus it feels very substantial & grown up but the negatives outweighed it. I decided I'd had enough of being grown up & & chose a frivolous blue Samsung J600 to replace it. So far it's much better & is more fun, the camera is better too, which is odd because it's 1.3 as opposed to 2 mp. On the whole I was surprised at the Nokia, I thought they were like the Fords of the mobile phone world, reliable, sturdy & run for ever. I might have just been unlucky, but it put me off getting another one.

Got this phone as a Christmas present, was amazed at the feel & looks. It has everything I want & more. After about a week I noticed the vibrate was not working properly, it would work (weakly)when the phone was laying flat but would stop when the phone was tilted or stood upright, very odd!

Took it back to Carphone Warehouse, who replaced it on the spot without a receipt, the new one is perfect. Battery life is not great, 2 days between charges, but the battery out of my old 6100 is the same, so I have a spare. I hear the BL 5 battery lasts longer but is not recommended, anyone know about this?

I got 50 songs on the original memory card, plus about 30 pictures & 20 video clips. I got a 2GB card for my birthday so this will be more than enough. Not had any overheating problems, but haven't actually made many calls yet.

Overall I am VERY impressed.

I've had a 6300 now for several months & despite it's great looks, comfortable handling & packed features, it's a big let down on stand-by & Bluetooth! I've resolved the battery life by changing the originally supplied battery for Nokia's BL-5C which is a higher capacity battery & doubles the operating life.

The Bluetooth though is a complete dud.

I've tried several Nokia Bluetooth headsets with this phone, all of which will randomly become disconnected from the phone. There are numerous posts elsewhere regarding Bluetooth on this product (wish I'd found them before buying the phone) & it seems to be a generic problem with this model. Interestingly, if I email Nokia with a sales query I get a reply, if I email them regarding Bluetooth failure on the 6300, I hear nothing!

Don't get me wrong, apart from Bluetooth it's a lovely, feature packed product, but I am going to change it for a Nokia 3110 instead!

- I have not had any heating up problems during calls or while charging.

- Nokia's battery life claim is a joke. You have to put it on charge every night like in the good old days. The 6300 leaves the screen lit up for ages. I can't help thinking this is a major cause of the problem but I can't find a setting that reduces the back light on time.

- the back is easy to remove, no sticking problems as one reviewer reported. This is good because you have to take the back off to change the memory card.

- the screen is great but Nokia have limited the video play back features. I guess they want to keep that for higher end models.

- the steel version has stunning looks & a quality feel.

- Good reception. I work in a basement & this is the first mobile I have had that will make calls from there.
- the USB port is much faster than that on any other phone I have had. On my last Sony, transferring 2G of data using the USB cable would have taken most of the day so a card reader had to be used. Sadly the phone will not charge from the USB port, missed a trick there Nokia. You don't need to install Nokia's software to access the memory card. It appears as a drive on your computer.

- the Radio & MP3 player are quite good but you need an adaptor to use standard headphones.

- Slim design, fits in a pocket without causing a bulge.

This is the first Nokia I have had. My past three phones have been from Sony. Am I happy with it? Yes, despite the poor battery life, because it makes phone calls in places where none of the Sony offerings could.

This is a good & stylish phone which with a few changes (bigger battery, video play back & USB charging) would be a excellent one.

I write to outline an initial purchase of a N-Series of events evolved as follows.

Sunday 9th December 2007, Purchased a Nokia 6300 telephone from Tesco, together with groceries totalling in excess of £40 enabling the local offer of a reduced price telephone at £99.97 (or similar). Phone fully charged as per handbook, but stopped functioning around 9 pm at home. It briefly switched on, flashed the initial Nokia symbol & then switched off. Recharged overnight, no change by morning.

Monday 10th December 2007 08.00 a.m, Telephone exchanged without quibble at Tesco, for same model. Duly charged throughout the day. 2 GB Micro SD memory card bought from Carphone Warehouse (Tesco advised they do not stock them), purchase price £19.05. I loaded music onto card, photographs & ringtones from Nokia 6230 & inserted Tesco SIM card. Phone switched itself off then behaved as previous phone after about 16 hours use. Phoned Tesco Mobile, as instructed on the leaflet with which the receipt was attached, was given a long 'PIN Number' to produce when exchanging.

Tuesday 11th December 2007, Second telephone taken to nearest Tesco store. Situation explained at customer services, PIN Number deemed totally irrelevant, & duty manager consulted by Team Leader. Advised that till receipt from Old Swan Tesco, did not have date & time on the bottom, so telephone would have to be returned to previous Tesco. Explained (politely) that this was rather inconvenient & requested that contacted other store to verify transaction, offering my Club Card, if it was of any help. The duty manager reiterated that it was company policy not to accept undated till receipts & that it was my responsibility to check the receipt was correctly printed. I responded by pointing out that the till receipt was perforated top & bottom by the receipt dispenser & that was not noticed this until it had been pointed out to me. I pointed out that it would take, due to traffic at this time of the day, over an hour to make this round trip & that I'd been in this branch for over 30 minutes already, as shopping was needed anyway whilst waiting for the store to return the telephone call, confirming my transaction, Stated would be content to wait for the confirmatory phone call. This took an obligatory hour. The call was made & the exchange authorised. The telephone was charged, as previously, my Tesco SIM card from my other phone inserted & all appeared to function correctly.

Thursday 13th December 2007 around 4.00 p.m, Noticed telephone had switched itself off, despite being locked. Telephone returned to Tesco together with full explanation of the story so far. Team Leader exceptionally helpful & suggested that the only thing they could conclude was that possibly I had not charged the battery for long enough. It was suggested I take the telephone home & charge it overnight. I stated that I was more than happy to do this & was in fact doubting my own sanity with regard this model of telephone, wondering what on earth made me the only person to have found fault with it. Suggested that the store may like to conduct this experiment themselves which was agreed & that if I was wrong, that I would not only offer profuse apologies, but also buy the team leader a bottle of wine for my being a nuisance, if it worked the following morning. (Sincerely hoped I was wrong & had undercharged the phone battery.)

Friday 14th December 2007, Arrived back at Tesco on my way to work, Went to customer services, advised by a very helpful Team Leader there was a message regarding the telephone & that the duty manager would deal upon arrival as she was fully aware of the situation. Rang my workplace to advise I may be delayed. Team leader enquired of the set of circumstances. Advised team leader of the situation & she rang security to retrieve the handset. Again, despite the recharge, the handset did not work. Whilst waiting for the telephone & browsing in the vicinity of customer services, there was now an offer on this particular handset which offered it for sale at £64.97, providing over £25 was spent in-store prior to purchase. I asked Team Leader what to do in light of the fact that all that was wanted was a mobile phone of this particular model that worked, nothing more. Advised that the choice was either a full cash refund or a (4th! ) replacement telephone. As I had bought all the accessories for this particular model, there seemed little choice but to try another exchange in the hope that the defective batch existed no more. Enquired as to whether I was entitled to a £35 refund due to the new offer but was advised that since the initial purchase was made before the offer that this would not be possible. Suggested that if a full cash refund were given, £25 spent on groceries, then a new telephone purchased, then surely this would be acceptable. Advised by team leader that as a goodwill gesture, it would indeed seem appropriate. Duly received cash refund & started shopping for groceries totalling in excess of £25. Halfway through my shopping the Team Leader approached me, very apologetically & explained that, the duty manager has said that because you have already had 3 telephones, you are not allowed to buy another on this particular offer. I explained, very politely, that I felt rather aggrieved by this, but in similar circumstances could understand that it looked very strange that only one person could possibly manage to obtain 3 consecutive defective telephones from 3 different Tesco outlets. I left the store having made no purchase.

Summary, Appalling customer service & still no response. Have since purchased same model Nokia 6300 from Carphone Warehouse on O2 (£60) has functioned entirely perfectly as advertised.

Hi everyone. First thing I want to say to everyone who is reading this review & wanting advice on whether to buy it or not don't think twice. If you are after a good reliable, sleek, smart & an overall quality phone don't hesitate to buy it.

I have had this phone for 10 months now since it has come out & I have had no problem what so ever. It's also very simple to use compared to other phones of different brands. I have had many phones such as the e900, LG Choc, Nokia 7210 & many more but this has got to be the best phone I have had. I don't feel ashamed to take this out its pretty modern & puts other phones to shame like the u600 which came out around the same time. My friend owns one of them & it has caused nothing but problems he says it has appeal which I think is hilarious every time he says it because it's made out of plastic from recycled cups. My sister also owns one & its screen has broken down a number of times.

Buy this phone no regrets. One problem battery lasts a day but it's understandable, which phone nowadays has a battery life that lasts longer than a day maybe two? None. People saying its music playback is rubbish if you to want to listen to music buy a MP3! Simple. It's like buying an iPod & expecting it to make calls. It's a phone it does its job & for what it's made for. Trust me people if you look after this phone it will not disappoint. If I had £70.00 I can't think of a better phone to buy than this. Reliable as a Honda, slick as a Beemer, easy to use as a hammer LOL.

Overall a good phone but as always a few little niggles which are very annoying sometimes. Firstly after using the phone for a while it tends to overheat so I have to turn it off to cool down & by using I mean Bluetooth & text messaging things that will wear the battery down.

Secondly every time I take a photo some part of it turns green. I don't know if this is just my problem but it happens all the time (so now my sister won't let me have a picture of her when she calls me because her hair is green! )

After getting some music on my phone the first tune went to my received files but the rest went to my memory card so I can't play them one by one I have to switch folders to great one song! Does anyone know how to fix this?

When I first got it I tried to get the back off, it said on the instructions to just slide it off, but this was a bit of a struggle as I didn't want to accidently break it! As I say overall a good phone everything else works & it does (mostly) what it says on the box.

I bought this phone in September 2007. I was disappointed with its short battery talk time (2 days maximum), difficulty to open the back panel to change SIM card, tiny volume control & voice recording not sensitive. After a day of use, its captured photos started showing cross hairs in them. That was annoying. Good points are it's slim, very light, attractive design, bright clear display & easy to use menus. Overall rating it's not recommended.

I can't understand those that criticise this phone, for that's what it is. It isn't a digital camera (it has a perfectly usable one for those moments when you just want to take a quick snap), it isn't an MP3 player (although the one included is adequate for listening to podcasts), it's a phone! Can these people not do a little specification research before buying one?

Very disappointed with the 6300. I am quite astonished by how utterly rubbish the battery life is (my main gripe), but for the superfluous features I might as well have an old fashioned phone & cable given its limited mobility. After a miserable week of use (mostly recharging!) I have returned it to the shop. I am now going to purchase an antique Nokia 6310i from eBay. If I need the Internet I'll use my Apple, if I need to take a picture I can use my digital camera. Get a grip Nokia!

I recently got this phone, & I was initially hesitant after reading reviews on here saying that people have experienced bad sound, over heating & poor battery life.

I've not suffered any of these so far! I made sure that I charged the battery to instruction, right now I am on my 4th day of battery life & it's not showing power loss yet. I haven't spoken much on the phone, just text but still, 4 days is a fair time! The battery doesn't overheat, & I've had no issue with sound quality. The only thing that's a bit rubbish about this phone is that there aren't many manufacturer set tones & wallpapers etc at all, but I can get these myself if I am so bothered.

I think overall this is a timeless, classic phone. It does what it should, & it does it well. It's very easy to use, looks nice & is thin enough to fit in my tiny fashion handbags. I like the material used to make it, it's classy & doesn't scratch easily.

& so I am quite happy with this phone, I can see it lasting me a good while. I've had Samsung, LG & Motorola phones, but nothing beats a good Nokia!

I love the look of the Nokia 6300, & it has all the features of previous Nokia phones I have owned & more.

The only thing I would grumble about the Nokia 6300 is that the battery life is very poor. The phone description states that the battery will last 14.5 days on standby, however from experience, if you have limited use of the phone, the battery becomes low very quickly. It's the only thing I would say lets this fabulous phone down.

Just took week old 6300 back to Carphone Warehouse as overheating after only 5 minute calls, have read all these reviews & see this is a common problem. As a radiation expert I don't need my brain frying any more thank you very much!

Now on second 6300 & hoping it is better. Watch this space. As I don't go in for gadgets (other than stuff that goes bang) & travel a lot, plus rely entirely on the mobile for business calls, I want the simplest model there is. Last Nokia was ancient but simple, totally reliable, nothing wonderful design wise but no frills & no problems. Other problems with the first 6300 phone I bought was poor reception & sound quality of calls, plus it resets the settings like the voicemail settings & alert, the ring doesn't go on long enough before it cuts into voicemail, calling Vodafone doesn't work & you have to go to the Vodafone shop to get them to alter the settings. The ringtones supplied are also awful so you have to spend ages downloading one. But the overheating is by far the biggest problem. Strange that the reviews here are either raving or ranting over this model. The different batches must vary enormously in quality, which is not good.

I cannot understand some people giving this phone a hard time. I have owned mine for about six months now. I bought it for £130 on O2 from Argos, & it was the best £130 I've ever spent! The design of the phone is gorgeous. I could & would never have a phone manufactured from plastic ever again. The steel casing gives a real quality feel to the handset. The screen continues to blow me away, the colours are so vivid & clear. When I compare my screen, with its 16 million colours, to the average 262, 000 colour screens offered by other phone manufacturers out there, there is no contest. The phone is completely customisable, unlike most others. The menu icons can be changed, which is great. I am constantly tinkering with mine using the Theme Studio software, this has to be downloaded via Nokia, it is not supplied with the phone. I have never experienced a problem with the phone getting hot when I talk on it & I can talk for England! The battery life could be a bit better, but I still only have to charge it every two days, on average. Perhaps many of the other reviewers on here are basing their reviews on the first few days when they first acquired the phone. Meaning the battery life is bound to be reduced, because everyone plays with their phone non stop when it's new! The only downside is the lack of flash on the camera. This is why I am now swapping this for a 6500 Classic. & I hope I am as pleased with that phone as I am with the 6300. I shall hold onto my 6300 for a while, just in case. I have no desire to have one of those fancy 5MP camera phones. I have a Cybershot digital camera, & no camera on a phone can rival a dedicated digital camera. I also have an iPod for music. I just want a phone to be exactly that, a phone. The 6300 more than manages this. It's been my favourite ever phone.

I have never been able to use the handset, a great shame, the features would have been rated highly IF they had ever functioned the way they were supposed to. A phone with a mind of its own you could say, it would decide when it wanted to switch on & again when it wanted to be switched off, another great function of the 6300 it also liked to browse the net when being charged, PLUS Send duplicate messages at my EXPENSE.

TAKE MY ADVICE. STAY CLEAR OF the Nokia 6300.

Upgraded from a Nokia 6230i to the 6300 & was impressed. I was looking for a phone that's good at its primary task like making & receiving calls with everything else secondary. After all, that's what a phone is FOR, surely!

It has a lovely display, wonderfully bright with vivid colour. The keypad is easy & intuitive to use, especially so if you're a regular Nokia user. The phone itself is small & light, with classy stainless steel finish & a black piano key plastic. It also has a useful set of flashing blue lights on either side to alert you of a missed call or an unread text, which I thought was pretty cool.

It comes with Nokia's S40 software, which is well designed, easy to use, responsive & bulletproof, my phone has never crashed. Try that on a Symbian S60 based phone! I upgraded to version 5.50 & that fixed a couple of glitches here & there but it's great. There are, of course, some minor quibbles but overall it's excellent. For example, the right hand soft key on my phone was pointlessly preset to Vodafone live, but one quick twiddle later & now it's a shortcut to my phonebook, much more useful.

The Gallery multimedia explorer works well & provides thumbnail views of both photos & video & can display your snaps in full screen mode, excellent for showing them off to friends. The Music Player is a pleasant surprise but a little slow to start up, but is otherwise easy to use & happily plays MP3, WMA & AAC files. Stick in a decent pair of headphones (the supplied ones are rubbish) & a 2GB microSD card & you have a reasonable MP3 player. You can transfer your music (or indeed, anything else you fancy) to it using either Bluetooth or a mini-USB cable, which replaces Nokia's proprietary Pop Port.

However, it's not without its faults. That lovely cover scratches way too easily & the battery life isn't great. I get about three days out of it before it needs recharging, but I am a heavy phone user & make a lot of calls, send lots of texts & listen to music. I imagine that Nokia could only manage to fit a relatively low capacity battery into that slim line design. The camera is 2 megapixels & takes reasonable shots in well lit conditions at up to 1600x1200 resolutions but there's no flash & it's poor in low light, resulting in grainy lacklustre shots. So if you're looking for a digital camera replacement, this isn't it. There's also no 3G, which is an odd omission.

In summary, it's a great phone with a gorgeous slim line design & has a well thought out usable interface, a great screen & a bundle of useful features. I would guess that it's aimed more at a lightweight business user & as such, it doesn't have the bells & whistles that you'd want to show off to your mates. But if you want a stylish, well made, reliable phone that does the job of being a usable mobile phone then you won't go far wrong with this one.

I just got this phone. Initially very pleased. It's my first Nokia & I quickly got used to the menu system. Very fast through the applications, great clear, sharp screen. Feels lovely in the hand, well built & a nice weight. Has everything I need except 3G, very classic & simple design. Lights flash either side of handset when you get a text. Good selection of tones & alerts & comes with a couple of good games.

The downside for me is the battery life & I am not a heavy user. I am having to charge every other day. Also the handset heats up quite quickly & after 5 minutes is unpleasantly hot against my ear & I have to either end the call (which is very hard for a girl! ) or use speakerphone. Doesn't make it very usable at all really & I should imagine potentially not good health wise! The battery life I can live with but the heating up is a different matter. I can see from other reviews this is a common problem & perhaps Nokia should consider recalling this phone as clearly it is a real issue with consumers.

After reading through loads of reviews about this phone I decided to go & buy it anyway & I am afraid I have to be honest & advise anyone who is thinking of purchasing this phone, to think again.

When I first bought the phone I was wowed with the sleek design, the decent sized screen & the overall simplistic look without looking cheap. But after a few days I began to discover a few blips, the phone's ear speaker went very dull in sound & I could barely hear the ringing tone heard when calling someone's phone, this wasn't too much of a problem until, when answered an almighty screeching sound almost deafened me & I had to redial again & again as the person at the other end couldn't hear me when they answered. I put this down to a network problem & ignored it. Then I discovered that the predictive text dictionary doesn't always save words you input that aren't already in the dictionary, sometimes it will remember them, sometimes it won't, very annoying when your a serial texter like myself & rely on predictive text to save your personal words to gain super speed whilst texting gossip to friends!

Again, not the end of the world but when I had to put a frozen packet of peas on my shell like after a half hour conversation I thought this is the last straw, the screen gets extremely hot if you stay on the phone for more that 5 minutes! I also recall getting quite a few headaches recently which I put down to coincidence. Draw your own conclusions.

The battery life is a joke really, not too much of a problem for me as I text mostly but if you like to chat, prepare to be cut off after about two low battery warnings! This phone is pretty basic & that's fine if the quality of the phone is good but I am afraid this phone is a bit of a letdown especially when Nokia usually know what they're doing when it comes to phones, I strayed from my Sony Ericsson w810i out of boredom really & I fancied returning to Nokia, in future I will think again & I am now in pursuit of Sony Ericsson's latest model.

Superficially very attractive but let down by bad detailing, the stainless steel back gapes badly & I doubt that it would be water proof in anything more than a very light rain.

Easy to use & pairs very well with Bluetooth devices although the battery life does seem to be a little short.

Camera is barely adequate except in full daylight!

All in all not bad but not really up to the hype.

I'd say a very poor effort by Nokia all round & I cannot believe how so many people can be so easily pleased. I bought the 6300 for no other reason than I was bored with my brilliant & trusty Sony Eric 810. I'd read plenty of 6300 reviews, loved the phones 'look', & at £80 I thought it was an excellent price. How wrong can one man possibly be?

First up there's no USB data cable. Then there's the fact Nokia's supplied software isn't compatible with 'Mac' computers. Which, considering the size of the company is absolutely disgraceful!

On the technical side the phones memory out of the box is little more than pathetic. The battery life is lamentable as well. My 8 month old Sony Ericisson contract phone that I use every day for calls, texts & photos lasts longer than the brand new 6300 even though I don't use it! As for the quality of pictures taken in anything other than bright daylight, well, they have to be the worst I've ever seen on a top of the range/highly rated phone.

Before I bought my first Sony I'd always used Nokia phones & been quite happy with them in their basic form, 8210, 6230 etc. But I am afraid to say, like Motorola, Nokia can't keep pace with technology & Sony have left them trailing in their wake.

It's my young Daughters birthday soon & I've decided to give her the 6300 as an extra surprise gift. Me? I am going to stick with a 'proper' phone that does everything I expect it to straight out of the box.

Oh, & try to keep your phone calls short, only the 6300 starts overheating & burns your ear if you use it for longer than a minute.

Enjoy.

Nokia must think on the battery backup because its life of any mobile phone. The 6300 is looking good phone but the battery backup is the worst I have ever seen in Nokia. If you will message 10 or read the sms. It will go down, even standby time is also not what Nokia gives the information. So think once before purchasing it. Except battery backup is not good.

1) Battery back ups bad
2) the panel gets heated up

The + features are:

1) Amazing. It has never crashed until 2day even though I have a 1 GB memo card. It's still fast.

For professional people this is not a good phone. But for teens I think this is the best phone 2 buy!

I send approx 10 texts a day, maybe make a couple of 5 minute calls at the very most & the battery goes to half strength even after such minimal use. I've done the 'full charge full drain' thing on the battery as recommended, but it's still rubbish at holding its charge.

I like the simplicity of this phone, & it does what I want a phone to do - nothing fancy - but if you buy one, be prepared to have your charger ready every other evening!

I really like this phone, everything is good about it, apart from one major criticism, the 2 megapixel camera. It's very poor. For some reason photos taken indoors come out green & very noisy/grainy. It seems to me that Nokia didn't do ANY test shots at all. I am surprised they didn't place some kind of light or flash just like Sony Ericsson done to the ever faithful k750i (for example).God knows why Nokia didn't do this to make the 6300 a top phone.

The camera is good outdoors when light conditions are perfect otherwise dark areas look grainy & very greenish. Battery life is pathetic. It doesn't last a day with normal usage & maximum one & a half days if do not make or receive a single call.

Nokia customer support is atrocious & they do not respond at all. I strongly recommend not to by this phone. The looks are deceptive.

I got this phone off the Orange site & all seemed fine until a little further down the line. The battery & the amount of charge it could hold throughout a day was pathetic! You'd be lucky if it lasted you a whole day.

Recently I had experienced a strange charging issue it had, I'd put it on charge as I usually did most mornings to get me through the day & after around three hours of charging I noticed that it was still doing it & it had usually finished charging after an hour & a half or so. When it came to unplugging it I found that the battery animation that shows its actually charging was still happening despite the charger being unplugged, I thought it was funny to start with & so I turned it off & back on again to see if it would have an effect & it did, when the screen came back on it had no charge on it at all! I was very annoyed as I needed to use it through the day.

It all came to a head last night when I'd just took my phone out of my pocket to check if I had received any texts & the side of the side was sticky, I removed the back to find that the battery had leaked all over the phone & into the battery connector & my phone was ruin. It wouldn't turn on at all & so it was there I gave up with the Nokia 6300 though that choice seemed entirely out of my hands, I managed to save my sim card though. In case your thinking that I may have knocked or dropped my phone & this was maybe the cause I can assure you that I've always been very careful & always looked after my phones.

I have had this Phone now for about a month. Originally bought this phone as I wanted a good looking phone that didn't look cheap (aluminium case) & that had two earphones & not just one for when I wanted to listen to the radio. As well as I find texting on Nokia's much easier than any other brand of phone that I have had.

So for the bad points, Yes the battery life is poor, I'll be listening to the radio & then it just switches off & when talking to another caller it doesn't really sound that crisp but a bit muffled.

The Good points this phone looks good & doesn't look cheap as other plastic phones do, it also offers a lot for your money which I am quite pleased about for £80. Don't really have any regrets about buying the phone as I know that no phone in the world is perfect & this phone is worth its money.

The only downside to me with this phone is its battery compared with my last 6230i which lasted for days. As for the casing soon getting scratched, I have recently bought changeable fascias for my 6300 off eBay for cheap money, making it more personalised. I would definitely recommend this phone. The only bugbear is the position of the camera lens. In normal use, you are always smearing the aperture. It's a bit of a pain when you are forever cleaning it. A bit more thought to that problem next time please Nokia! Overall a good piece of kit & SO easy to use :-)

It might still be the honeymoon period at this stage (as I've only had my phone just over 24 hours), but I LOVE this phone. I had spent about 1 week making a detailed search of the phone I wanted. There were several I was interested in, but this phone was the easiest for me to obtain, so I went for it. I was hesitant because reviews I'd seen. People seem to either very much love it or hate it.

I had upgraded from a Siemens SF65 for this phone, so I feel like I've finally joined the 21st century!

The phone is just PACKED with features. I will not list them all, you can see them. A lot of reviews say '2 mega pixel camera, not good enough', but after having a phone that, granted, had a flash, (its highest resolution photo was SVGA) I am very happy with photo quality. The highest resolution of this camera is 1600 x 1200 & it takes some great photos. Yes, the conditions have to be right, but that happens with a lot of digital cameras.

Video is great albeit small at 178x144 not the 320x240 as seemed to be promised in spec. It's my first video phone, so I am happy with the quality it makes a somewhat 'blocky' but very watchable video clip. I find the ease of use with Bluetooth for file transfer really good & fast. MP3's, video clips & photos all transfer in seconds. Sound quality is great, & ample in volume.

The only downside I have seen with my phone so far is the common complaint - battery life - but as I was playing with the phone to familiarise myself with it yesterday - I doubt this will be a real problem for me in the near future. The only other slight down point is the highly probable ease at which this phone would become disfigured. I would definitely say invest in a good quality case if you want your phone to stay aesthetically good-looking.

Other than that, I am 100% happy I went with this phone & am SO glad I went back to Nokia!

Very impressive to look at but that's the end of the compliments! A mobile phone I don't think so. Try taking or making a call on the move using a Nokia headset what a joke. After repeating your conversation twice or three times the person on the other end just hangs up as they cannot decipher your words. Nokia were unable to help. Had the phone 2 days & reverted back to the trusty 6230 while the 6300 was returned for replacement. Got the next one & guess what the same problem. Very frustrating & embarrassing when you have to terminate an important call turn phone off swap sim cards & try to return the call explaining that it's a new phone etc. Nokia were the phone to have but this experience has now clouded my judgement & as this second phone is now making its way back to be replaced with a Samsung G600 I await & reserve any further comments on this issue.

Good & attractive design, poor in terms of usability.

The sound quality is poor on headset or otherwise. The LCD screen tends to catch all the sweat from my ear & become smudgy. The phone heats up like crazy, battery lasts for less than 10 minutes of talk time, it heats up & runs out.

Picture quality is poor. I had an N73 which had super picture quality but that phone was really rubbish for everything else. All the bugs in its prototype version was not removed.

I guess Nokia no longer needs to pay attention to good quality since they are too big to notice that their customers are not happy with these. I raised this with Nokia care in India & they too did not care & gave me some silly instructions that made no sense. Is Nokia listening. I don't think so.

The Slimness of the phones design is quite useful for keeping it quite snug in your pocket. Maybe with a few MM's off the length making the screen a bit shorter would make it an even more snug & snazzy phone to place anywhere. This phone would be more popular if it was 3G compatible having a 3G myself it is unfortunately the listing above.

This phone does seem to have its problems, however all in all it's a great phone, slightly annoying & confusing at times :s.

But everything that it's meant to do, it does & the battery lasts for nearly 2 days *touches wood* It's a good phone. But it could have been better ha-ha.

Also, Do I need to download ringtones or can I put a song an s a ring tone? If so then it comes up with 'Not allowed by activation key' :S

Superb phone from Nokia, their first decent one for years! V good build quality, plenty of stainless steel used. Most other phones feel plasticky & creaky now. If you don't need the advanced business operation of Nokias smart phones, then this is perfect. & it operates QUICKLY & WITHOUT BUGS. Exceptionally bright, crisp & colourful screen, photos from a digital camera imported to the phone look brilliant. As usual, the phones camera is only just OK, stick to a proper camera for proper photos! Downsides? Battery life is not too good, but this seems to be the norm for most phones. Manufacturers, take note, we need a weeks use please! Phone memory is far too small. Yes, use the card, but things like themes & contact pictures need to be on the phone. Very satisfied.

GOOD POINTS
- Superb build
- Great screen
- Keypad you can actually USE (but still ever so slightly cramped)
- Fast, bug free operation
- All the features most people will ever need
- Highly customisable shortcuts, huge options

NOT SO GOOD POINTS
- Tiny phone memory (but memory cards go up to 2 GB)
- Battery life, yet again.
- Camera (but it IS a phone.)

It's a great phone for the money they sell it for!

Plus I love the look & features, the camera, though its only 2MP is great, takes nice shots.

The down side is:

- No flash
- Gets pretty hot when talking for over 30 min
- Battery lasts 1, 5 days if used constantly

Overall the good phone, but next time ill think before buying stainless steel phone, scratches too easily.

My battery isn't giving me any problems (touch wood!) although I do charge it overnight. The only thing I don't like is the Bluetooth hands-free in the car which doesn't allow simultaneous charging, so I have to use a splitter in the cigarette outlet to accommodate both charger & hands-free, a bit cumbersome. I use calendar reminders as a memory aid (having no memory of my own) & also whizz music & photos backwards & forwards from my laptop via Bluetooth. Lots of admiring comments from envious friends too. I love this little phone. I panic if I am parted from it!

I have the same issue as mentioned above, the memory card disappears, then reappears. This is troubling as some times the MP3 player won't work, the camera mucks up, my wallpaper disappears. Etc.

The phone also gets really hot, & yes the battery is kind of bad. I have had the phone for three weeks.

Rubbish games come with the phone, USB cover is a nightmare, & my screen is already scratched.

Love the music coming out of the speaker though, that's awesome.

But I am going to try to return it tomorrow.

My phone gets stuck when I try to switch to full screen during video.

Also if you keep the camera on for few minutes. My phone will get extremely hot & my battery will die.

If I use the phone for talking for a period of one hour even after full charge then my batter will show weak.

If I listen to FM or MP3 music player, my battery is getting drained out as though it is propelling a rocket.

There is serious problem with the battery & no body is bothering about this. Nokia is replacing BL-5C. What about BL-4C?

Except the batter backup, I don't have any other serious issues with this phone.

I am afraid this phone does not live up to the hype. I got mine as a free upgrade on 02 last week & I am glad I didn't pay a penny for it.

Similar issues to other reviewers:

- Battery life is terrible for a so-called 'mobile'. If you actually want to use it for more than half an hour, expect to have to recharge it every day or so. (My 1100 lasts 2 weeks on a charge, even with regular texting etc & its 2 years old!)

- Design. Camera is exposed to scratches, battery cover almost impossible to remove without rubber gloves & battery connector/charger very poor quality (again, comparing to my 2 year old 1100). It does look nice, but it's a case of form over function I fear.

- Screen. Brightness is way too high & is completely un-adjustable. This makes it uncomfortable to view at night, & more importantly, contributes to battery exhaustion.

In summary, if you want a good-looking phone with poor battery life & a poor camera, possibly consider as a free upgrade.

Hi, sorry to say that this 6300 of mine is virtually unusable with any Bluetooth headset that I have tried, the audio is so distorted & broken up that it's unusable with even the slightest background noise. I have tried Nokia hs4w, Sony Ericsson hbh-608, Jabra 250 & 500 & I might add that all of these headsets work fine with other handsets!

So it seems to me that once again Nokia appear to have it wrong, shame though because apart from the Bluetooth fault & the low battery life it does seem quite a good handset. I updated software to v5.0 but still the same problems. Come on Nokia whatever happened to your quality? Very frustrated with Nokia & Orange!

I really like this phone but the battery is really bugging me, how long should the phone be charged when purchased? & is it meant to drain out & then be given a 3hour 45 minute recharge?

I bought the first one & returned within a week as the battery wouldn't even last1 day, I am now on my second one & the battery was lasting me a day & a half, however today it lasted me from this morning to about 9pm. Not happy, shops not very helpful & I feel like I am being a nuisance, should I take of my screen savers? Wallpaper? Not fair as I want to personalise my phone?

I text a lot & calls are low but this shouldn't make it that bad? A friend recommended I buy a spare battery but I don't want to? ! My Ericsson battery lasts me days & that's all I like about the Ericsson, I think they are rubbish phones to use, whereas nokias are really easy.

A Nokia phone with an Ericsson battery please? Advice anyone? Shall I return phone?

I've had my phone for about 2 months now. I think that the phone rocks. I'v read the reviews & it's not true about the battery, that it dies out very fast, it only weakens when you use the music player or turn on the Bluetooth for a long time, other wise, it lasts for more than 4 days without recharging if you're just doing phone calls & sms. I think the design is great & the functions built in are great too. It's very easy to use. The only thing that isn't very powerful about it is the video resolution but I think its OK in comparison with the price bargain. However the pictures taken are great in resolution. If I were to buy a new phone, I'd either rebuy it or buy the Nokia 6120 classic because it has symbian software.

For LILY of London:

I work with mobile phones & a couple of days ago some of us were installing SIM cards & batteries in them preparatory to flashing. I agree - the metal back CAN be really difficult to remove. Here's how I got around it, though admittedly it's a bit of a fiddle. I wore a thin nitrile type glove, which has very grippy fingers. You can find gloves like these & similar ones, in the large hardware stores. You could also try a rubber thumb, those used in handling paper. You should then find opening the back a snap, if you press down slightly on the backing, not far from its bottom, whilst sliding it up.

Hope this helps.

I think it's a lovely phone & I am currently using a 6280, which has been serving me well for about 7 months. The display on the 6300, however, is considerably brighter, a design feature I consider desirable. As for battery life, one can extend it somewhat by using energy saving settings &/or buying a higher capacity battery, though I don't believe that to be a necessity. Also, as some others have recommended, it is important that the battery be fully discharged before recharging, for the first few of its recharging cycles, that is, don't charge it when only partially discharged, even though this may be a bit inconvenient. Finally, once this is done, how difficult can it be to plug it in every couple of nights or so, as needed? While nothing in this universe is perfect, I believe few users will be disappointed if they select the Nokia 6300.

What Nokia forgot to tell you in 6300's ads is that you've got to be aware of a possible design/production flaw in 6300 or maybe a faulty batch of the phones released to the market worldwide. The flaw results in the phone is 'losing' memory card: suddenly the memory card disappears from the Gallery menu. Sometimes it suddenly re-appears, but not for long, in a couple of minutes it's gone again. You may find any complaints about it on the Nokia forums, but you will not find any Nokia's reaction. None there, none in media, none in the field. Without making much noise, without a product recall announcement, Nokia just make people spend their time & money to bring their _new_ phone to service centers, where it is repaired, & this may take considerable time & this is not the only flop. For example, the magnificent display, which should have given Nokia an advantage over similar competitors' models, becomes the battery killer, eating it away in one day. & since the phone is slim, more capacious battery doesn't fit.

Bottom line. Whatever this phone looks fancy, featured with stuff, etc., it's underdone. Add here Nokia's reaction (or actually, no reaction) disregarding the complaints, yield totally frustrated customers. Want to join them?

An advice for Lili:

I had similar problems with you about opening the back cover, until a technician showed me how. This is how it's done:

1) Place your right thumb in the center of the back cover & press down. Your thumb should run along the phone.

2) Place your left thumb on the upper part of the back cover (1-2 cm above your right thumb).

3) Press & slide downwards at the same time with your left thumb. (simultaneously pulling downwards with your right thumb will also help).

4) When the cover has slided about 0.5-1 cm stop & just lift it. That's all! .

When you need to close the phone just repeat the above procedure in reverse. Just place the cover 1 cm below full locking position, press down lightly with your left or right thumb & slide the cover upwards until you hear a click.

It is not as difficult as it sounds. With a little practice you'll do it in a breeze.

The pictures really don't do it justice, go to a shop & hold one in your hand. The phone works well & is as intuitive as the Nokia's of the good old days but with an up-to-date look. My last few phones were Sony Ericsson & whilst they were good they had started to go downhill & feel plasticy & incorporated unobvious menus. The 6300 is a complete breeze to use & a joy to look at.

Speaker is loud & sound quality is excellent. Battery life is good & in fact the only negative point I have is that the voice dialling incorporated a computerised voice like a speak & spell which is difficult to replicate. Great phone. Go buy one.

I was a bit worried when my 6230i was due for upgrade, as I didn't want anything bigger, but wanted all the features. I was therefore delighted to receive the 6300, as it has the same features as the 6230i, but all have been enhanced, particularly, the screen & camera. The design & build quality is superb, no fussy grilles, flaps & holes like you get on a Sony Ericsson. I have read a few reviews from people, saying the battery life isn't too good, however, this phone comes with a lot of power saving features, which if used, will make the battery last for 3 days, with average use, which is perfectly acceptable. The only possible criticism I can think of, is that the number keys are a little close together, if you have big fat thumbs, like me. Otherwise, if you want a good looking, lightweight phone, with useful features, get a 6300. If you want a phone which does everything a laptop does, get a laptop. If you want a phone that does everything a digital camera does, get a digital camera. If you want a brick, with lots of bling & stuff that you'll never ever use, but you like to tell people about in the pub. Get a life. If you're normal & want a brilliant little phone, get a 6300.

I just bought the 6300 brand new last week & it has already stuffed up. It just cuts off the person on the other end of the phone call & all I hear is my own voice echoing back. This has happened on just about every single phone call & is such an inconvenience as I have just bought this phone new & will now have to go & get it replaced! Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Always used Nokia phones from day one never had any problems with Battery life. Most people don't charge them correctly don't let battery run out as it has memory. The 6300 is a great phone, good design & very robust. Do not have problem with heat when using as I keep hands away from aerial. Will keep my Nokia for quite some time.

Well I've had my 6300 for a week now & I have to say it is probably the best mobile phone I've ever had (in nearly 20 years of using them). Previous phone was the RAZR V3I, with which I was reasonably happy for a couple of years but it got a bit annoying that I could never see the keypad properly (shiny shiny dazzle dazzle) & I never got great reception in my own house :(. Neither of these is a problem with the 6300. In fact I think the keys are the nicest I have had.

The appearance is of a sleeker Sony Ericsson T610 (not a bad place to be) but the T610 was maybe less susceptible to scratches on the metal (the back of this 6300 got scratched by a copper penny in my trouser pocket, not a deep scratch but annoying nonetheless). As others have said, the menus & general UI is absolutely superb, very user friendly & responsive (phew! After 4 years of Sony/Motorola madness) & the display quality is eye popping. I've had no problems with the alleged heat issue, nor with clarity of signal either incoming or outgoing.

One thing that is a bit disappointing is the apparent lack of leather cases for this handset, I just bought a Krusell Premium Leather Case today, which looked like it would maybe be the best option as it is very tight fitting, but the case adds so much bulk to the handset it completely ruins the handling & neutralises one of the major pleasures of the phone, its slim design. This case also has a thick plastic film over the screen & keypad, which I hate. So I probably won't use it. A great pity Bugatti doesn't seem to do a CASE for the 6300, as I have used their RAZR case for 2 years now, which was a marvelous piece of design. Anyway, I really like this phone & would recommend it, especially as it's available on free upgrade plans.

Phone looks gorgeous, back to the classic Nokia style, which is fantastic. However, battery life is not great (I can get 3 days out of it if I don't use it very much) & more importantly, the line keeps cutting off people's voices when they're speaking to me. This happened when I first got the phone so I replaced it immediately. It's still happening though & getting worse & my mum also had the same problem.

Upgraded 2 handsets in the office to the Nokia 6300 that was 7 weeks ago & both users are onto their 4th replacement! In fact they have more or less been using their old handsets as the 6300 DOES NOT WORK! The network provider will not change them because Nokia have not acknowledged a fault! All 8 x handsets have so far had exactly the same fault which is they start to heat up after about 3-4 minutes & as they get hotter the sound becomes more & more distorted, its impossible to have a clear conversation & using a Bluetooth earpiece does not help, the handset gets so hot its like pressing your ear onto a radiator! Our network provider said all they can do is keep replacing them until we get one that works! They say it could be a bad batch! Does any one else have this problem, if so then Nokia should acknowledge there is a fault, then we can exchange our handsets to one that works!

Would never buy anything but Nokias as so easy to use, felt Nokia losing the plot with only basic or weird flips & way over spec (for my needs) N Series then. At last. As my well loved, used & battered 6230 limped to retirement Nokia make a stylish 'normal' mid-range phone!

Only gripes sore thumb from steel surround of nav key but will get used to that, yes, phone does get warm & WHY can't Nokia just make a MEGA battery (even if as an optional extra) but hey, still WAY better than any other maker, just do what you do best Nokia, REAL PHONES for REAL PEOPLE who don't NEED a mini PC/sat nav/MP3 brick you have to re-mortgage for!

I ended up buying this & it was a MISTAKE. The lens cover on the back fell off within a week & the so called nice satin metal casing developed fine scratches! I am someone who looks after my phones very well & disappointed how easily it gets scratched. (Inherent issue with metal casings?).

Peter (London) asked if this phone gets hot. Yes it does. I have also noticed that sometimes when I take it out of my pocket to use it, it is already hot! (Metal casing again?).

Another thing I will mention is that it also causes strange tingling feelings in my head when in use! (Maybe that's just me) it is a shame as the phone has one of the lowest SAR's around.

As for the rest of the phone it is brilliant!

Overall for the price this is a good phone & I would recommend it. But it does have few problems. It's more user friendly than my old K750i. It has a better operating system than my N91 (S60 is so slow! ). However,

- Battery life is bad, Lasts only 1 day with heavy usage (listening to MP3's for a few hours) & a few calls. This is mainly down to the screen! The screen, which is very nice is also very bright, eats the battery. It's impossible to turn the screen down like you can on the K750i. My old K750i lasts twice as long. Why doesn't Nokia use decent batteries?

- Camera is bad, poor grainy photos & no auto focus or flash. My K750i took much better photo's. Video is awful, less said the better.

- If you have big hands, don't buy this phone. Yes I have big hands & for the first 2 weeks I got cramp. The keys are too small & are positioned to low down the phone which means the balance of the phone is all wrong.

- There are short cuts & selections that are not on the &-series menus. I guess this is because of series 40 format, so I can't complain too much.

- Charger not backward compatible. This is a pain because I have a charger at home, at work & a car charger, which will now need replacing, yer right. More likely I'll change the phone.

So why do I keep this phone?

- It is so user friendly, Nokia are really good at this. The series 40 format is so fast at opening up applications & running smoothly. Pity you can't say that about the dreaded s60! This hangs or freezes & is so annoying.

- the calendar/organiser is great.

- It's small & slim enough to fit in my pocket. I have had enough of bricks (N91).

- Music quality is average, but it only took me 5 minutes to download 9 albums onto my 1GB memory card (transfer by drag & drop), then the phone recognises the MP3's. No need to even use the Nokia software (on CD). Pity the ear jack is not the standard 3.5mm.

Overall, I think I'd wait for the Nokia 6500 slide, it sounds better & is on the same operating system, so no hangs! PS someone on here said it had no flash light. Well yes it does. It's called the screen!

I got this phone 2 months ago after having a horrible Nokia 6280 on 3 Network. I am really happy with this phone & like everything about it. The downside is the voice tag which seems impossible to use no matter how hard you try to imitate the robot voice! Also you get a really hot ear during a call as somebody has already mentioned! The worst thing is that mine seems to have an extremely high pitched noise intermittently! The noise is like feed back, it does it before the person your calling even answers. The person on the other end also can hear it & it makes it impossible to hold a conversation! I have downloaded the latest Nokia software but unfortunately different! Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, there are some practical problems, the phone is very slippery, the market yet does not have a leather cover for this model.

The software problems, the sim card does not read occasionally.

I would like to explain my bad experience on the latter note as follows:

I have had a bad experience with a Shop in the Sahara Mall, Sharjah. I bought the just released 6300 model. I gave them the credit card & he swiped & then gave me a receipt after stamping a sea, that read, '1 year warranty, no replacement'. I was not bothered as I did not imagine Nokia to have any problem. But apparently the phone had software problems (acknowledged by the Shops representative) because of which the sim cards were not readable (mine, my wife as well as my father in law's). We went back within a week's time & they refused to replace the phone in spite of the fact they agreed it is a software problem. They took the phone for servicing & returned the same in 2 weeks time & it is working fine now, so far.

I strongly fail to understand the consumer protection here, where the local dealer has not only given me a lot of mental tension but also spoilt the Nokia brand name.

Every new mobile user buy Nokia phone in India because he don't know other brands. After using that phone for a period he realised that the phone is just useless & functions are also outdated. Considering the price every Nokia phone gives something less than any other brand in that price segment while others are rich in every feature. Nokia 6300 is a great phone but what were Nokia thinking when they changed their voice dialing software. You can no longer add your own voice tag. You need to be able to impersonate a robot in order to be understood by the phone. This is a real sickner if you have a Bluetooth car kit. Buy this phone but not if voice dialing is important to you.

I got this phone yesterday after my razor v3 decided to stop working for no apparent reason. Wow what a nice change it was, this phone is amazing the screen just glows at you with 16 million colours. The phone is great if you're like me & like to have your phone unique to everyone else because the custom setups you can have are vast. Brilliant clear speaker too for the music, bad headphones though. Camera isn't bad either it just won't show blacks very clear if the light isn't just right.

Two faults with this phone are the fact the battery is rather poor & I think this is down to the fact the screen is so bright & vivid, it cannot be changed (who would want to have it looking less like it does? !? ! ) also the processor in this phone is pretty quick (looking at webpages for example, you can scroll down so fast without the phone slowing. This is also apparent in the menus). Problem number two is the USB cover, this is a real pain in the back side because I bent mine trying to open it because it's so stiff but I have managed to straighten it enough to fit snug.

I have avoided Nokia's since they started making breeze block size super phones & dodgy fashion phones. Once I caught a look at this phone my mind was made up & just as an added bonus for the look the phone does everything perfectly.

Without a doubt I would recommend this phone to anyone. Best phone I have ever owned by a mile. Thanks Nokia you won a loyal customer back.

Ah also it's a bit silly there was no USB lead but lucky enough my razor one fits it. A quick note, you way want to get a bigger mem card, I got a 2gig for £15 so they are not expensive.

Nokia have done well to make an affordable phone look classy & expensive.

I previously had a Nokia N70 for 18 months, which had problems with the Symbian software (all & series have this installed) & 3G had serious problems. However in comparison, I find the 6300 a pleasure to use with a nice clear display & buttons. It is easy to navigate around the menus.

The handset is solidly made with no rattles, or nooks & crannies for the dust to settle into. The phone doesn't have stacks of features that you will never use, & get confused by them.

As someone who has spent the last 20 years in electronic manufacturing, I have to say well done to Nokia, this one is going to be a hit!

My old phone was 3510i & it had all the features I needed & it was OK about a year, before pieces started felling off & the screen was horrible.

After that phone I decided to buy a phone that would be slim & strong. & what do you know, there it is, Nokia 6300!

I went to a local store & at the second I saw it, I was amazed & almost ran to get money for it. & I didn't feel bat at all for buying it for 225e (which is a lot for a student).

The screen is great comparing to Nokia 6288. I like the series 40 more than s60, because of its simplicity. As said it doesn't have 3G & that's the biggest minus. Camera isn't very good & video is horrible, but I don't really use it so much, so it doesn't really matter. Also I was disappointed, when it didn't have a USB-cable, which I had to buy separately for 15e.

Music quality is actually a little bit better than creative muvo v200.

Battery life is pretty good, actually. But hey, the 16 mil screen probably uses a lot of power, so it's no surprise if the battery life is not as long as aspected.

If you need a phone that is simple, good-looking & a handy phone, this is for you. If you need a phone that's more like a computer than a phone, Internet or a camera for 'real' pictures, then I'd go for the n73/n75 or some other N-series phones.

But overall, I am very happy with this phone.

Had this phone for a week now. Best Nokia since 6230. Just sold my N80 due to poor signal & poor battery, so everyone complaining about the battery on the 6300 there are worse! With normal use I've only charged it twice & signal is strong. The menu's are easy to get around & no software issues. Overall very friendly & better than the N80 at least!

I love this phone! I've had it a week so far & I am still loving it. It's so easy to use & navigate.

The battery could do with improving, if you spend some time listening to music it doesn't last very long. ''Normal'' usage it seems to last just fine. But obviously the first few days I spent time playing games & downloading music & Gifs etc.

I can't imagine a man with quite big hands getting the hang of this phone as the buttons are small & close together but the screen is big & really clear.

My previous phone was a Samsung D900 which I hated with a passion! I couldn't wait to get rid of it & hence I've sold it & bought this one outright.

I highly recommend this to anyone wanted a new handset.

One of the sleekest sets Nokia has produced till to date. Classy & stylish with brilliant 16.7 million colours screen. Decent screen size. Excellent functionality for people who are looking for a simple phone with not so extravagant E & &-Series like features. Beware of finger smudges & scratches on both the plastic & metal covers. I suggest keeping it in a protective casing although original leather case is not available for all regions & preloaded software's also differ by region. It has an &-Series type thin charging pin connector so old Nokia chargers won't work unless you have a converter. Solidly built. No creaks. Boasts a radio with a nice music player although the quality of the bundled stereo ear buds is average, Mini SD up to 2 GB available. Phone's internal user available memory of 7.8 MB is considered quite lame these days although it does come packed with a 128 MB card. Nevertheless, you will end up buying a bigger card sooner than you think. Poor camera results especially in low light as compared to other 2MP cameras in the same price rang. No flash & lens protection cover. Video recording also pitiable. Camera is by far the weakest feature on the phone as far as I am concerned. Loud but mono speaker at the back. Below average battery life as compared to other 6 series models. Volume buttons on the side hard to press especially when held closer to the ear during a conversation. No 3G. Earphone above the screen could have been louder, a definitely precious! Recommended!

Put it in Camera or video mode, it's really amazing. 1000 names is also a huge feature for me because I stopped using my Palm Pilot & now just keep my contacts in my phone.

Also if you are like me & bought an unlocked one, you will need to get your phone setup with your provider's settings.

This is the WORST phone I have ever used - it's AWFUL! I had it for 3 weeks & begged the shop to take it back as I couldn't waste an upgrade on such a useless phone.

Battery life is awful - you have to charge it everyday. Camera is rubbish - really grainy - photos not clear at all - the 1.2megapixel camera on my 6680 is far superior. Texting is rubbish - long messages are sent/received incomplete - I haven't had this problem with a phone in years. You get no cable & software to upload your photos to your PC. The volume/sound it makes when ringing/text alerts (even on max) is so low, you have to be next to the phone to hear it. Yeah it looks & feels nice & the screen is big, but it's lost so much in the process of slimming down, it just isn't worth it.

This phone is very disappointing. It has no new features. The battery is really bad. I have to recharge after 2 days of just receiving 3 calls & a few sms. Really lousy.

I chose another Nokia because I expected it to have the same features & shortcuts - plus a bit more, but this has none of the usual Nokia shortcuts that I am familiar with, so it's a whole new learning curve. What's more, there are no new features, in fact the old ones are gone. No longer can I add to the Go To list, as there is no Go To list or right click Go To shortcut. Very disappointing, especially with the battery. I am in the middle of wrangling with Nokia to take it back. Don't buy it.

This is a brilliant phone, I've been away from Nokias for quite a few years, but coming back to this was easy, all menus were logically laid out & easy to navigate straight away.

The phone itself has a nice heavy quality feel, & the design makes my old K750i look ancient. The screen is amazing on this phone, very sharp, the only reason I didn't give the full 100% was because there is no flash/light for the camera, real shame as the camera itself is very good for a 2MP, better than the 2MP camera on my old K750i, but you can only really use it outside in good light.

Overall I am very impressed & very happy that I made a good choice to come back to Nokia from Sony 'Knackered Joystick' Ericsson.

The first thing to say about this phone is that it's exactly what the Nokia advert says - simply beautiful & beautifully simple.

The Nokia 6300 does not give you 3G, & neither does it give you the most amazing camera in the world. However if you like me, just like having a few snapshots of friends on it, & wouldn't really make use of 3G anyway, then this phone is perfect. (& the camera isn't THAT bad, so don't let it put you off).

The screen display is the best I have seen, & the phones layout is user friendly. The sound quality of the music player is surprisingly good, & memory cards aren't too expensive (I purchased a 1GB card from the carphone warehouse for £33).

Some people have written in their reviews of a disappointing battery length. However I find it fine & I think the average user would too. It's better than my previous phone anyway.

I think this phone is the best you can get for the money (about £150-160). MP3 player, 2 MP Camera, a lovely & approachable layout, stunning looks, good applications + you can boost the memory cheaply = my ideal phone.

Forget 3G, you don't need it.

Great phone. Slimline & practical. The reason it didn't get 100 on features, was it was lacking video phone & no flashlight.

I've had a couple of phones this month the Samsung D900 with terrible user software. Could they make it any harder to send a text! The New Nokia 6288 a good phone but just a bit fat for me like the Nokia N80 not the sort of thing you'd want to stick in your front pocket unless you like women smiling at you all the time! Now the Nokia 6300 what a phone it's what should of come after the 6230i not that 6233. Its slim easy to use S40 software not that S60. With a 16 million colour screen even with a 2MP camera it looks better than my friends N80 even though his is 3.2MP camera. Even though it's so slim it doesn't feel cheap. All I can say is buy it or upgrade now I never thought I'd put my Sony Ericsson W810i in the draw but this new Nokia make it look old & dated.

Slimmest in Nokia models when compared with features. Purchased this mobile 2 days back & I found it's worth the money. Camera is excellent. Downside is that battery life is too ordinary & no flash for the camera.

Thanks to Nokia for this great design, as it's the slimmest mobile from Nokia. But it lacks a flash light for the camera. The speaker is in the back side of the handset (not dual speaker). But for the price its worth. Display is stunning with 16.7 million colors, the Best in its class. So if anybody wants to go for a handset below $300, it's a good buy.

Very sophisticated phone- perfect for everyday use & not 'over the top'. Has everything needed with a unique design. An update of the 6100. Brilliant!
