I've had four of these phones now, & I still love them. Fair enough its dated now, but it still has a great camera, excellent screen, & easy ability to navigate through the menu & functions. I hated Nokia before this phone came out. But I have to say they done well with this. I have bought a 1 gig memory card, & it holds all my music, video & gaming needs. This phone is amazing!

Not a bad phone in all, but does have its bad points like the battery is rubbish & the phone reject's the SIM card a lot when turning it on. Only had it 3 months!

I've switched it over now to the Samsung D900 & it is a far better phone in more ways than one.

If you like Nokia buy the 6300, that is a very nice reliable phone & it only cost's about 80 pounds now!

This phone is rubbish. Love Nokia's but this phone totally disappointed me.

- Background is not saved when it switches off.
- Switches itself off when playing music or playing on it.
- Broke computer when trying to load photos up.
- Aerial broke straight away so signal is rubbish.

Second one, & not impressed.

This phone is like the worst phone I have ever had.

I have had quite a lot of phones in the past a couple of Nokia's & a couple of Samsung's.

This phone is so hard to use & it is to bulky I couldn't put it in my pocket.

I had it for my Birthday 2 years ago & I was on a contract for 18 months & a year had gone by & I hated it so much I cancelled the contract & got a Sony Ericsson W810i it's fabulous. I would recommend that I am going to get the Sony Ericsson W760i soon when it comes out.

So don't EVER buy this Phone, Nokia disappointed.

Had this phone for 16 months now. Brilliant phone in all respects, never had any major problems at all. It's really reliable. Battery life could be better but I still can get 2 to 3 days between charges. Am about to upgrade to a 6500 slide, hope that's as good.

I have had this phone 4 a year & a half now & I love it to bits. It's really easy to use one of the simplest phones & the camera takes really good pictures. The flash isn't up to much though so that could be something that is improved on.

The battery life is really good (but that might be because I charge it overnight, nearly every night :s) so I don't know how long it actually lasts because I never let it run out.

The design could be way better because it is way too formal & would only appeal to business like people.

The display is really good & easy to see & the menu is simple to navigate around because it is the classic Nokia menu.

I am buying a Samsung u600 now because I've had this phone for a while but this phone hasn't disappointed me.

P.S. About the phones that malfunction, I guess I was just lucky because this phone has always worked for me since day one.

I will have had this phone for 2 years in June at which point I will be changing it for anything other than a Nokia! Always having had Nokia's in the past & being extremely satisfied, this one has proved disappointing from within 5 months of buying it. It powers off on its own even with full battery charge usually in the middle of something which of course you then lose & have to start again! The buttons do not always respond when in applications on the net, I once spent 5 minutes trying to close something down & in the end just pulled the battery out. The back of the phone was quite loose, didn't seem to click securely in place when you put it on & I lost it within 6 months getting it & I am just about to go out & buy yet another replacement charger, this will the third one I have had in less than 2 years because the wire keeps snapping! Now I am by no means a mobile nut & do not constantly use the phone so to have had these constant problems from less than average use is in my book not acceptable. I can't wait to change it in June!

I HATE this phone.

Repeated problems & only 1 year old. Currently it is turning itself off, incoming calls are diverted to answer phone or given unobtainable tone, picture messages are not received, screen freezes, twice it has shown a test screen when turned back on, & I have been asked to input a reactivation code, it has deleted my photos & ringtones & won't open my memory card. I have had previous problems with the charger & I am currently on my third one. My husband has the same phone & has experienced all these faults too.

If I could have given lower than 5% for usability & design I would have.

Was not impressed at all, the screen cracked twice on me within 2 to 3 weeks, & when I got it replaced it was really slow. The features on the phone aren't the best, camera was very good however but this fact was let down by the other poor features. Music player wasn't acceptable on a phone of this standard. Often didn't recognise my various size memory cards which I had bought to use in the phone, waste of money if you ask me! AVOID at all costs!

Had this phone for over a year now, between 3 friends we have all had to go back to Nokia to get a software update, was crashing, hanging, & deleting SMS service details. Since the software update there have been no problems with the phone.

User fault, as I have dropped it many times & did not cause a problem but did bang into a metal object to crack the screen, replaced & no problems since.

Love the active desktop, reminders, shortcuts & music player. Such an easy phone to use. Intuitive menu system, so much control & choice to adjust the phone to how you like & use it.

Basically, this phone it's quite alright after I bought it for about 1 month. After that 1 month, problems start to come. For example, slide problem, as some of the review mention, no signal, the whole phone restart by itself, the camera could not work, same for the video, the music player totally RUBBISH. This is because it will just stop & hang the whole phone. I sent to the repair many times, but the same thing still happens. What I could say about this phone is that it has a lot of features, it is rather cheap of such phone with so many feature on it. I only spent around $99 (sing dollar) to buy this phone, but with contract of 2 years. But as you all know, cheap things could not be good, this is example of that.

Oh Man do I hate this phone! Worst phone I have ever had!

Bad battery life (& yes I do let it drain out completely), switches off by itself, blocks outgoing calls randomly, has been in the shop once & that it still didn't fix the problem & I have gone through THREE different chargers because they all broke! I have never had ANY of these problems before, in fact I switched back to my old four year old phone (which still works fine).

I have a friend who had the same phone & she had the same problems.

& poor signal, that's your network provider not the poor phones fault. This is a fantastic little phone. I would recommend but the new model is out & I am upgrading to it. I urge people with sense to do the same!

Never will buy a Nokia again! Previously had a sagem. Which was & I have had to use it several times as the phone keeps breaking!

At first it wouldn't charge, a new charger or battery did not resolve this & it was sent away to be fixed.

Too bulky, it's to thick compared to newer phones.

Screen gets dust behind it, very irritating.

But there is some pro's.

CAMERA is very good. Although only 2MP, compared to the Sony Ericsson 2MP cameras, it takes much better pictures due to the flash!

Very easy to use!

Just coming to the end of an 18 month contract.

Niggles, gets dirt in behind the screen which is fiddly to take off & clean.

Camera, fantastic 2MB quality that I load up to my PC for brilliant viewing. This was my main reason for buying this phone & PC Suite is a doddle.

Phone, large screen is brilliant with easy navigation. I have found reception a little problem in some locations unlike my Blackberry.

Just about to hand it over to my Son & get a 6500 slide.

Well done Nokia but we want higher camera MB, slim as possible & keep the weight down if possible. Oh & forget the micro keys that seem the craze at the moment.

I think this phone is really good value for money. I bought it second hand & have not had a single problem. I bought a 1GB mini SD card for it which boosts it media sky high. It is a great all rounder, good camera, good movie player & a neat little MP3 player. If you want 10MP camera buy one, if you want 5GB MP3 player buy one. This is a jack of all trades. Yes battery life was rubbish, but I bought a new battery for £4.50 gave it a proper first charge & it has been great since. You will NEVER get the perfect phone. Look at the iPhone its rubbish, faulty screens already. This phone does what it says it does on the box, what more can you ask for. A1 Nokia.

Absolute rubbish. Have had a continual issue with sim card registration failing, dropouts, no coverage issues & back cover falling off. These issues eventually required me to PUSH & I mean PUSH for a replacement phone which after a couple of months had the same issues. Nokia will not replace phone now because it is out of warrantee. Would only recommend this phone if you need to use it as a paper weight.

It would have been a great phone if it had lasted a little longer. There's a problem with the software (it kept on crashing, & there were all sorts of weird screens). The screen cracked in the end & then the inner screen broke as well, which was surprising since I am very careful with my phones.

Another issue I've had is with the chargers. The first one frayed within 3 months, it was replaced by Vodafone but then second one went within a few months as well (this time it was something else). Very disappointing because when it worked, it was a great phone.

I have had this phone for just over 18 months now, in that time I have changed the screen which I broke when I was drunk so no fault of the phone, the only thing I can say that I didn't like was the battery life which was OK for the first 6 months & then I bought a new one then it only last 6 months as well but other than that it's been a good blower, I work in engineering & the phone is in & out of my overall pocket all day long & it doesn't look that bad still today, so I will say it's very durable, probably one of the best phones I have ever had.

Had this phone for about 2 years. Not had nowhere near as many problems as some people say on here. It's taken some knocks & keeps on going. The only problem I have had is the screen sometimes has a blip when the slider is out but very rare & sorts itself out again.

Could do with being a bit thinner its 22mm thick, but has a nice big screen. Going to upgrade to the 6500 slide phone soon as this is better looking, slightly thinner about 17mm & with a better camera. Was interested in Sony W910i but appears to be having lots of problems with software at the moment so will stick with Nokia.

Agree with many of the other reviews having had the phone for almost 18 months. Despite being Which magazine's Best Buy their reviewers obviously didn't have the phone for more than a few weeks. It's been back to repairers more times than I can count, each time with the same problems, mainly blank screens, upside down screen images, & worst of all dust that accumulates from under the slider. When it works it's lovely but I've never had it working long enough to fully appreciate it. Never get one of these.

Easy to use but this phone was boring. Only a music player & a rubbish camera. Plus after a year into an 18 month contract it's slowly died, it started with it turning itself off after every call the screen would go completely blank as if it was turned off when you pressed certain buttons while texting, then last night it didn't come back on & it still hasn't. I called 3 they said I could send it off to be fixed but I have only got a month on my contract left & it could take up to 6 weeks to be fixed. Now I have to pay to buy myself out of my contract for a phone that I will take great pleasure from smashing against a brick wall when I get a new one.

It keeps turning off had a new charger but still the same, I have lost my credits many times as it spends a lot of time before I get it back this last time I could neither send nor receive text or make any calls. Also they returned the phone with a new front as the menu button started losing it silver coating after a month. But they gave me a shabby back plate. So I had a burgundy front & a black back. I will say I did get good reception from it that is all. But keep away from it.

I am now using this phone again, after getting fed up with my p990i (which doesn't seem to work & is really so). I've had this phone unlocked, de-branded & flashed to the latest generic firmware, which has improved this phone 100%, so far I love it because it has good features, OK the camera is not good. But it still does the job.

I like the form factor & the screens not too bad. It used to have a problem with resetting & the screen occasionally blanking out. But that's all sorted thanks to the firmware upgrade.

Should you buy this phone:

YES - if the phone is unlocked, has the latest generic firmware & is de-branded.

NO - If it is locked to any network (mostly rubbish '3' who have locked 80% of the features of this phone) or had any branding.

All in all the one I have is a decent phone.

I have no idea but I have received a letter from the Orange customer services department stating that 'they suspect this phone is a generic one & not a branded Orange one & if this is the case Orange cannot insure a generic phone.' So how come they tried to get me to buy their insurance then? How would one know if a phone is a branded Orange or generic phone? If anyone knows, please enlighten me. I am mystified. - dust behind the screen
- slider gets jammed with grit
- screen freezes
- goes blank then shows 'sim card rejected' have to turn it off for a few minutes before re-starting. This usually happens more when I am listing to music.
- very slow to go between folders

At least my battery is still OK & I haven't had any call dropouts. Maybe that's still to come. Can't wait till I am off contract so I can get rid of this phone.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE UNLESS YOU ENJOY GOING GREY. If you really want it, get the 6288. It's essentially the same phone just without the stigma of the 6280.

I have just got rid of it. It was less than a year old & it had ridiculous software issues, it won't take you long to find complaints on the web (in their hundreds). I sent it off to be repaired with 3 & it was returned unrepaired; the reason being that it had liquid damage. My phone did not have liquid damage by fault of my own, it's down to poor phone design I.e. It didn't get liquid damage from rain or me taking it in to the shower or something like that, it just got it from the damp environment in Sheffield according to the 3 repair centre, LOL. If it had liquid damage it would not work for 3 months with the same problems. Problems like crashing, random turning on/off, screen turning upside down, phone calls being cut off. The list is endless. I even had quite a new firmware on the phone!

3 didn't really help either, my contract was wicked but their face to face & over the phone service was poor, very poor.

I haven't found the camera to be too good even though it is 2MP & the battery life is terrible! For me it doesn't last a day. Problems also include phone restricted & some other thing about message centre number not defined it turns out there is a bug in all the Nokia 6280's to cause this.

If you already have this phone - warning - don't buy a new cover for it, take it from a girl with experience. I am on this site, looking at reviews to try & decide on my long overdue upgrade from the 6280. Both myself & my husband have had this style phone for 18 months even though I was signed up for a 12 month contract only. We love this phone! It's very robust, full of features for a phone of its age, & is not that far short of the phones coming out now. I've had none of the problems posted below & am sorry to see it go really, but I keep thinking it's been a long time & I use the phone heavily so something's surely got to go wrong with it soon? It still keeps its charge for upwards of 3 days, never switches itself off or lets me down in anyway & that cannot be said for many other phones which are very flimsy these days. I was quite shocked to see others experiences of this phone & wonder if there's much point in going by others reviews for my upgrade as it's not a true reflection in my eyes, unless I, & my hubby were simply very lucky with our 6280's?

I got this phone pretty much as soon as it came out & even after lengthy delays over its release, the phone came out half-finished & it's never been up to the high standard you'd usually expect from Nokia.

Firstly the good points, nice & easy to use, with a really good camera & video.

That's it.

Bad points:

- Battery life is weak, maybe 2 days at most, & I've had to replace the charger as a connection fault developed with the last.

- The slide mechanism is shoddy & a little loose, plus it's too easy to get all kinds of dust behind a screen that you cannot remove (without damaging the phone).

- There are many menu bugs & freezes which seemingly become more common over time.

- Signal has always been poor, & occasionally even when I am in signal, friends have complained that it's as if my phone has been switched off, I am constantly getting Vodafone 'Call Catcher' texts.

Just this morning the left soft key stopped working, & this is the final straw.

A very shoddy phone.

Got mine last September (06) & I love it. That said I have had more problems with it than any other phone I have owned. The volume button on the side went in two months & had to send it back to be repaired. The video function freezes every now & again while filming causing you to lose the complete vid your taking & just this morning the loudspeaker gave up the ghost for no reason what's so ever meaning it won't ring for me anymore ! Vibration alert is now my only way for finding out if I have got a message or incoming call.

I have gone through three pairs of headsets (thankfully the second one I bought was still in warranty so it only cost me one pair) & I am on my second charger.

BUT, for its type & price it has the best screen display I have ever seen. Far as I know the N-Series phones have a better vid/display package.

So my verdict is, if you can get it cheap, buy it. But don't expect it to last more than a year. So basically it's a good tie over till the N 95 is going cheap next year ! :)

Flimsy memory card cover & centre control key is insufficiently spring-loaded/weighted so you can easily change selection rather than choosing what you want.

Worst of all is the battery life, you need to recharge every day if you use the phone at all & tend to leave it on 24/7 which I think you should be able to do, who wants to have to switch off their phone at bedtime & turn it on again in the morning.

DO NOT BUY ONE! As a mobile phone repair guy I see more Nokia 6280's than ANY other slide phone & virtually all are software related. As stated earlier they guarantee against HARDWARE not software so you are on your own here, even with software upgrades the faults remain more often than not.

POPULAR 6280 FAULTS, freezing on start up, freezing when camera is selected, resetting when you click to play video, random power off, exterior lens snapping (normally due to heat), white screen (ribbon) & most likely another load of things I can't be bothered to type.

However Nokia phones are great, it's just this one! Recommended phones by Nokia are 6230, 6230i, 6310i & 6300.

It seems odd to see so many complaints. I have had mine for 11 months, it is still in near mint condition, so does not scratch easily, either the case or the screen. Has not crashed but a couple of times the boot-up 'hung'. The latest firmware update has cured this & added heaps of features including stereo Bluetooth. Fabulous audio, even on the speaker. I think it must have been the really early models that gave the problems.

Three of my friends have the same problem, it's not just me! I think there must be a design fault with the battery/mains interface.

But if I was you get the 6230i! Its Nokia's best phone that is at the right price! It's the best Nokia on the market! The next phone that is good is the Nokia 8800 Sirocco! But as a lot of people will agree it's too expensive as its just released! Give it a year or so it will drop when Nokia release another! Sorry!

I doubt anybody is interested but I have to say that I LIKE my Nokia 6280! My husband bought it for me as a wedding present in DEC & I've never had any problems with it. I must be one of the lucky ones. The battery lasts for at least four day WITH Bluetooth activated permanently, the graphics are fine, the radio/music player/charger all work great & I have even bought a pink silicone cover to make it look a bit more feminine. My only disappointment is the memory capacity. It doesn't have a large amount of memory but I can remedy that by purchasing a larger memory card. Most people on this site are saying how poor this phone is but I say 'it's a GREAT phone. As long as you're one of the lucky ones'.

I think this is a great phone & many of you are knocking Nokia when I think Nokia is the best in the mobile phone market personally, just take a look at the Nokia n95, as for Sony Ericsson I would not touch them with a barge pole personally no offence to people who have them but they crash very regular & the music when been played is sometimes interrupted by loud buzzing noise because they haven't got the right technology to make a good phone. If you are having problems with your Nokia 6280 if you bothered looking at the Nokia forums instead of saying, o, o, o, Nokia should be sued over this rubbish.

If you have the Nokia 6280 go onto settings, phone & change the network mode to GSM because the others cause problems because the phone tries to pick up two networks at once hence it crashing & popping up with messages. I have done this with my Nokia 6280 & have had it 9 months now & it is fine it is just now & then the phone restricted message comes on & all you do is switch the phone off leave for 10 seconds & power back on & its fine (also on Nokia forum). So before you knock Motorola or Nokia these two are the best as they started phones off to be the best & they are, like I said look at the n95 you can't beat that for a long time to come.

I have always used Nokia mobiles & I am sad to say that this phone has got to be the worst phone I have ever owned.

It turns itself off, battery runs low after 2mins (when displaying fully charged), powers down when swapping between profiles, has a lack of internal memory, splits sms texts into separate messages, charges without the charger being near it, crashes constantly, especially if you have one with the first series of software. You can download software for nearly all Nokia phones from the Nokia website but not for this handset. Now most networks are selling this as a reconditioned phone, something to do with the amount returned, no doubt. Come on Nokia sort it out. Swinging towards Samsung now, gotta check out the E840.

The design of the phone looked good when I first got it, but after a while, I noticed that the whole cover is cheap plastic & the keypad is quite small. I've never had a problem with the slider, & I liked the way the camera is built. The features were easy to use, but, like so many others, I had numerous problems within months of having the phone.

- Predictive text fault, never remembers any words, very annoying, Yes! How annoying!
- Turns its self off. - Yes, & stays off regardless of battery life.
- Screen freezes.
- Screen goes completely off when phone is still on, Yes! Goes all black & fuzzes quite a bit.
- Reboots when playing a file, Yup.
- Cheap rubbish exterior.
- Battery short life, Very. Never longer than 2 days & I never used the radio for that reason, despite that being on e of the reasons for getting it.
- Charger breaks after a short while.
- The 'phone restricted' thing made me panic the first time it happened.

I understand that a small few people have had no problems with it & I am glad they like it. If it weren't for these problems, it would have been a great phone. I have used Nokia phones for nearly 8 years & until now, have never had a bad one. I will still use Nokia, as they have a generally brilliant track record, but I guess sometimes, they have manufacturing crises like this. They just need to pull the finger out to fix it.

This phone is really a basic bog standard Nokia. It's nothing special & nothing great but a good functionality. The photo quality is very good as is the Nokia PC suite software. The only problem is dust gets under the screen very easily & you can't remove the front cover to clean it, also if you drop it, it will start to stick on the slider. There also seem to be a generic fault with this phone & not registering the SIM card all the time. I've had my 6280 since March 2006 & have had no problems to date. I guess there are just good ones & bad ones. I do sympathise with others who have struggled to get Nokia to do anything, I have been there before with earlier phones!

I find the phone very easy to use being a logical progression from earlier Nokia's. It has proved robust, surviving a couple of drops onto solid surfaces. The back cover was loose when I got it & it makes a cheap sounding 'clack-clack' noise when handled but that's about it.

The battery life is OK, it needs charging at the end of the second day if it has had much use (I have Bluetooth on permanently & switch off over night).

My contract is up in September 2007, so I am starting to consider new phones. Current thoughts are N95 (chunky & mega complicated), 8800 (featureless but pretty) & Sony Ericsson K810i (not a Nokia!).

Yes, it's had the firmware updated but still plays up. If Nokia actually resolved these issues, & I have read many reviews bemoaning the very same problems, then this would be a great, if not technically top end phone. I have had this phone about a year, its just coming to the end of its contract. It's a wicked phone, very easy to use & the features are pretty awesome.

The camera is good & the zoom factor is great although no point in zooming in 8x or the picture is very pixilated. The flash is disappointing as well, very bad quality pictures when using flash.

The only problems I have had with this phone is that it went through a phase of just turning itself on & off & the screen freezing etc. Although this seemed to sort itself out after a couple of weeks.

Lately though the back cover just seems to fall off randomly, when I first received the phone it was very hard to remove, but now it just falls off & the battery & sim card fall out too, I have had to tape the back on. But, it's understandable as I have had it for a year & I have dropped it quite a few times. The screen quality is great & the amount of features it offers is superb. I recommend anybody gets the upgrade of this phone as it's surely a winner :D

My wife has this phone from O2 & is on her 5th handset within 6 months of an 18month contract.

These phones are hopeless. The slider is a very, very poor design. Very brittle & easy to break if the phone is used quite a bit (as my wife's is). This was the cause of most of the returns.

The other causes are the phone likes to freeze & crash. When restarting the phone it throws security error messages.

The jiffy bag for her current one is arriving on Tuesday.

Nokia are well aware of the problems with all their phones. Just read the forums on Nokia's own website. Full of complaints.

Nokia seem to be riding on past glories. They used to make some stunning phones that worked. Whilst the designs of their new phones are up there, the firmwear just isn't.

To the person who is thinking of upgrading to the N73, please visit the forums on Nokia's website first. It will make you think twice. I am speaking form personal experience & have now returned my N73.

It crashed max twice which is a lot less than the technology you are using to read this. Not one problem & would recommend it to anyone as would the only 2 people I know lucky enough to have one (only one network use these in Ireland).

The Nokia 6280 Well! I am trying to be as generous as possible with this turkey of a phone! It' an absolute Lemon, Do-do, whatever you want to call it it's a joke. Nokia should be binning it. Like most others I've had nothing but problems with it when I got the first one in May 2006. I was actually glad when I got it stolen! Here are a few.

- Frozen screen
- Silent function unable to be removed
- Vibrate function not working
- Turns itself on & off
- 1 earphone broken after 3 weeks old! Then
- Radio attachment stopped working altogether
- Won't charge through PC or laptop
- Rear cover keeps breaking
- Dust under screen even when a cover is used!
- Constantly losing signal, sometimes for days (not Network problem)
- Charger design faulty, I've had 5 now, soon to be 6!

I absolutely hate this phone. I am gutted, as having definitely the same, & yes, the new charger I received with the pack has now broken, after 3 weeks. Nokia, get your act together!

I am on my 4th 6280 in month 10 of a 12 month contract. I returned the first ones straight away as the sliding mechanism was very poor compared to my D500 I was replacing. The second one came & was still poor but I compared it with two other people who had the same phone & there's were the same so I decided apart from that fault I really liked the phone as it has many excellent features. I had no problems with dust under the screen & I am a builder so I was quite pleased compared to other people. In January the phone kept dropping calls & would not send texts so O2 exchanged it for another new one. I had this 2 days when dust appeared under the screen, two weeks later the slider stopped working so today I have phone number 4 which as it only has to last 2 months I will hopefully be able to sell on eBay! Will probably go back to a Samsung slider phone next as the build quality seemed far higher.

I thought this phone was going to be really decent, I have always liked Nokia's for being really simple & easy to use phone's but not this one. It has endless problems & to those people that think this phone is perfect can, I have the address of where you got your phones from? As I think Nokias must have made 'selected perfect phones' bad luck for the rest of us eh? Well my battery only lasts a day if that, it can be on charge for over 9 hours & isn't full & then dies within the matter of 4 hours! All other problems I have encountered that other people have mentioned! Have had to buy a new mobile for the car as I can't rely on this Nokia! Totally not recommended.

WHY the ARE ALL OF YOU LOT HAVING A GO AT THIS Nokia?

For all of the ppl that hate it you obviously have had plain bad luck. I got my phone not from three, but off eBay believe it or not, the person had had it for a year or so & for me it works absolutely fine! Yeah sure it the front part presses down when using it but you would expect that with a slide phone since it need a gap to slide!

The MP3 and video player is brilliant, I can get a whole 800MB film on it and it just uses up 100MB on 3GP, it's amazing! & I got 150songs on it on my 2GB memory card. I can't believe how cool it is!

The camera is brill, I have never had a 2MP before, although I would like a 3MP I will get one when I upgrade (I have already got a phone that is on contract, I got this as a back up LOL) & this phone is on payg.

I use the Internet on the phone all the time, its just great. The battery lasts like forever! Unless like me you use it on Bluetooth or connected to computer a lot then of course you gota expect loss of battery once in a while, it's a phone 4 goodness sake!

The functions are great, really easy to use. Sometimes it's slow to go to different applications but I am not complaining. Only prob I have had a couple of times, although I isn't bothered, is that it turns it self off if you try and do certain things and then comes bk on.

But since I bought this phone for £70 then frankly for the little probs I have had I don't care!

You lot need to stop moaning, if you get cracks or dust, its your own fault, any other probs that don't result to firmware, please stop blaming the company for it to play up! Take more care!

Nice looking phone with some great features. Just a shame it is probably the worst made handset in the history of the know universe. On my 3rd replacement in a year which has been repaired 3 times, had repeated problems with:

1. Broken slider
2. Frozen screen
3. Turning off then back on
4. Turning off & staying off
5. Crossed lines
6. Dropped signal
7. Battery lasts about a day
8. Dust under the screen
9. An echo when using speaker function
10. Vibrating alert staying on

These are just the repeated problems there have been others that have been fixed. All in all a great little phone on paper very! Very! Very! Badly! Let down by the build quality & reliability. Under no circumstances waste you're hard earned money on a 6280.

1. Battery lasts 5 minutes
2. Camera has broken
3. Can't view video clips
4. Clips holding the back on have broken making the phone backless (might be OK for a ladies dress but no for by mobile phone)
5. Dust under screen
6. Cuts out
7. Cuts out when try & turn it to silent
8. Cross lines. When I have tried to call someone from my phone book I connected to someone I didn't know!

Apart from the above it's been great. Can't complain.

Overall I found the phone good, user friendly, & durable (dropped many times & still works).

Occasionally it does freeze, but removing the battery & replacing it again fixes this problem, & occasionally it is slow moving from application to application but not enough to complain about.

The camera is as good as I would expect for a 2MP camera on a mobile phone. I never really use the music function on the phone.

Ready for an upgrade, will try another model from Nokia. Possibly the N73.

- At least 5-days battery? Check

I had the N70 & hated it. It was clunky, slow & the battery didn't last more than 48 hours. I have had my 6280 on one bar on the battery for 3 days now & it keeps going! The camera takes decent pics, the video player rocks.

A very poor phone indeed. I don't understand where the good reviews are coming from because mine has given me nothing but grief. Not just me, but everyone I know that too have a 6280 suffer the same problems with theirs also :/ Nokia really should pay attention to the quality/standard of the phone. My phone would turn itself off. Lose its signal countless times (nothing to do with network). It would freeze too. Haven't got all day to list all of its faults so will stick with the ones already mentioned. I gave a high-resolution, because when the phone is actually working, it is a great phone. However, given the problems the phone has, it was getting to the stage where it was out of use as it was IN use. Also, accessing the memory was slow. Say, I wanted to open IMAGES within the memory card, it would take the phone 4 - 6 seconds to actually open the folder.

Please seriously consider all these things before buying one. I bought this phone despite reading all the bad reviews on it thinking I may get away with it. No such luck LOL Am now getting a K800i, good luck me!

This is a very good phone. Unfortunately refused to fix it.

I got the phone within a few months of it coming out on the market & it had more than its fair share of software problems in the beginning (great now though, just had to be flashed).

Design: quite flash looking, a little old now I guess thanks to newer phones coming out. The slide action is cool, did lose a bit of its smoothness after a while, but still cool & fully functional.

Features: very nice, the memory card slot is very handy, & you can use the phone as an MP3 player if you want (easy with a 1 gig or even 512 MB Micro SD card, & they're cheap as these days, AU$30 for 1 gig). One bug I did have was the camera though. Although its 2MP resolution, the colours don't quite come out well, & on bright photos you can easily notice some pixels off-colour. The screen is nice & big. I downloaded some photos onto it & I would often spend my time just looking at them on the great screen, very clear & very nice resolution.

Usability: fine, had it sitting in my pocket all day for many months & not a problem. Screen stayed perfectly scratch free all that time. One problem I had was that it can't play MP3 music (so ringtones too) as loud as I'd have liked. The loudspeaker is more than adequate in a quiet room - I found it way more than enough, however have a bit of background noise, well, more than a bit really, & you'll probably have some trouble hearing it. In loud places I couldn't hear the phone ringing (still that's like the football so no surprises there). Battery lasts a few days too, I'd say 4 says max if you didn't use it at all. I got 3 days out of it usually cos I often watched videos on it.

I highly recommend this phone to anyone. It's easy to use & cool. HOWEVER, if you get this phone you will likely be stuck using it with the Telco you got it from forever unless you want to pay quite a bit to get it unlocked (£35 I've heard). This phone cannot be unlocked any other way!

If you can accept that then I recommend you get his phone, you won't be disappointed if you take care of it (as in don't be rough with it, & try not to spend your time enjoying the slide-action 'open, closed, open, closed. ' :))

Also you could look at the 6288, I haven't used this phone but it's basically the same. The great thing about it is that Nokia allows you to flash the firmware off the Internet, something you can't do with the 6280 (you have to take it to a Nokia repair centre or Telco, although I recommend going straight to Nokia if you have a problem that flashing won't fix, because I've heard stories of Telcos charging customers to get their phone fixed, when Nokia would do it for nothing).

Over the 15 years that I have been using mobile phones, I have always used Nokia phones. I can honestly say that this is the worst one of all!

I have also had the phone freeze on me regularly, especially when I am in the middle of writing a text. The problem seems to be more frequent after it has been in my trouser pocket (as opposed to my jacket pocket).

The firmware has been updated twice in the 5 months that I have had it with Carphone Warehouse taking two weeks each instance. This is now the third time I have sent it in for repair & it has been sent to Nokia. I am fed up with the phone &, being in a 12 month contract, I have opted to pay over £150 for a sim free NON Nokia phone & write this off as a bad decision.

Nokia has lost a loyal customer.

Hi, when I first got this phone I really liked it; that was 1 year ago. Since than I have had the screen changed once & sometimes when changing profiles the thing just crashes! In all the features are good. I like the music features & the sounds good via the head phones. The best feature is talking on hands-free at the touch of the button.

So my advice is if you can stay away from this little devil & go for the W880I. Apparently the new Nokia (Up for 6260) is meant to be the bomb! I isn't gonna take no chances.

I've had the 6280 for about 8 months now. I really like it but still have some slight constructive criticisms on it. When I first got it people kept telling me how awful it was & that the slide loosens & that it will conveniently start breaking down just after the cooling off/faulty replacement period elapses. I refused to listen to them as I find this always happens with any phone that you talk about. There's always Neg-Heads eager to tell you when you're making a stupid decision. (Especially when you work for a very well known mobile phone network! )

Personally I look for simple things: easy to use predictive text, great shortcuts that can be personalised, fairly good camera, good sound & display, video recording, smallish size & some other basics. I don't use my phone as an MP3 or anything so I don't want it to do anything too tricky. With this phone I've found the screen is a great size, the keypad is easy to use, the menus are great & the 2 mpix camera is more than adequate. It's surprisingly small too. It looks deceptively bulky but actually it fits really nicely in a small handbag pocket & its dimensions are pretty similar to other smaller 'candybar' Nokias. I also like the way its slides (& it has never gone loose like I was told they all allegedly do). You can programme it to answer & end calls on opening & closing the slide & also quick locking it by closing the slide & pressing the middle softkey - the simple things in life please me!

the criticisms I would have are that the predictive text isn't as good as previous Nokias I've had. It forgets words & abbreviations you regularly use, e.g. 'wkend' so you have to constantly spell them, it doesn't predict a full word like other models & some plain English words it doesn't even recognise. 'Penguin' for example doesn't figure! - Probably a bad example as not commonly used but I can't think of a better example right now. Just trust me on that one!

It also has a few strange habits. Every now & again it freezes although I have learnt to cope with that as it only happens every now & again but what really annoys me is that you can be halfway through a really long text & for no apparent reason it will suddenly start rapidly deleting it in front of your very eyes like a jumper unraveling. Not so good. But all in all those little things have been far outweighed by the things I have really enjoyed about it - & this is coming from a perfectionist.

I've always gone for Nokia & would never stray, however, having researched, received personal demos of & briefly testing the MOTO KRZR K1 for myself I am finally tempted to try something beyond Nokia World.

What I must say though that so far I have been quite impressed with the phone. All people who have given bad reviews have obviously dropped onto bad examples. Based on what I have said you probably wonder why I have scored at 90%?

Are you guys all sure that you're all talking about the same Nokia 6280? Because frankly, mine has been working amazingly well. But when I first got this phone all of what you guys said previously had happened to my handset:

*Phone frequently going black & resetting while listening to the MP3
*Signal suddenly dies
*Battery life was poor

But after an amazing 3 weeks, all that just disappeared. My handset NEVER resets when I am listening to songs, signal always there, & battery life is AMAZING, at least ranging to 5 days with a little music. The camera is superb, but there are miscoulored pixels in the darker areas. Video calling is clear, & the interface is SUPER fast. The sliding mechanism is nice & smooth too. I find this phone more versatile than most S60 phones that I've used (previous 6260). So I don't know what happened with your handsets, but overall, most amazing phone I've used so far.

5. Improper memory card reading

For those people having problems with theirs, get it sorted with the latest firmware available, it will sort out ANY bugs it may have. I have heard of the problems of the phone switching of randomly, freezing up, slow functions. The latest firmware, which I got today, cos the phone arrived this morning is V05.92, dated 07/09/06. I got mine from the local Nokia repair centre, I go there EVERYTIME I get a new Nokia phone. Latest firmware is the ALWAYS the first thing I get done be fore I use it. & after that, I have NEVER had any problems with the fones I have.

The menu can be a bit frustrating. Gotta get used to searching for some stuff that isn't in its normal place.

I thought the phone had a problem with reading the memory card, so had the Nokia centre check it out. Found out that the phone shows the memory that is USED, not the available memory. So, if you start with a blank memory card, & stick say, a 3 mb song on it, then it'll show 3MB on the screen, NOT 61MB free. That was soooo confusing. Also, I have a Nokia N70. When you open the memory card slot, the screens shows a warning, saying that the memory card slot it open, & vice versa when closing, to say memory card is/is not present. But with this 6280, it doesn't do that, so I was unsure if it was working properly & reading the card.

Bluetooth will ALWAYS drain the battery on ANY phone if it is active, whether it be Nokia, Sony Eric, Samsung ( ALL Samsungs have bad battery life), so you can't complain about this particular phone losing battery.

One more thing, is anyone else phone speaker, the actual phone speaker, not the loudspeaker, a bit quiet? My nephew has a 6280, & his is quiet too. Is this normal? Mine is set at max volume, but compared to my N70, is about 60% of its speech volume.

I got a nokia 6280 2 months ago. It's a good phone easy to damage but that's only in the looks department don't let that put you off it's a super quick phone! & transfers data at blink of an eye to your computer which is very handy for videos or pic's that you want to take out of your phone but not delete.

Love the phone in many ways, has all the features I like. I don't find the camera poor. But I agree with some of the other posts here - the voice dialing is unreliable! & I have had major problems with:

* Battery life (lasts a few hours if Bluetooth on unpaired)

* Not connecting to chargers

* Dropping Bluetooth signal at random

* Losing sound during calls

* Phone switching off randomly

I do know someone who's had no problems with hers but, overall, I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

The 6280 is a great phone, it's really the jack of all trades but master of none. I have enjoyed the year I have had the phone, especially as it was free on one of these Vodafone caps over 24 months. The design is slick, easy to take photos & videos, but there are a few complaints.

Firstly, when I go to upload photos or video's to my computer, the computer crashes. Only when I do some nifty short-cutting can I manage to get them off. Extremely weird.

After the first 3 months, random buttons locked up & wouldn't work. Sometimes it's the green 'call' key & sometimes it's the hang-up key.

The battery life was awesome at first, but now it's down to a day & a half on minimal use.

Just now my phone is starting to switch itself off randomly. This is bad because I use the phone as my alarm clock, so luckily this morning I woke up out of habit, only running a little bit late.

There are many issues with the 6280 but it has been a good phone when it doesn't stuff up. Love it.

The design of this phone is absolutely delightful. Was pretty happy when I got it, until I realised that my cancel call key lighted up pink in colour rather than bright red like the same phones my friends have. I was expecting a better consistency in build quality from Nokia.

That was really a minor problem until my phone suddenly freezed up & won't charge. This happened a total of 3 times over the whole year & even after the new firmware update the problem will still pop up now & then. The flash drive also failed & prevented me from taking any pictures.

I am now in the process of lodging a complaint to get a new phone as a replacement by my mobile provider. This phone works like a beauty when it was working. However it is too unreliable for my liking. Anyone have any ideas whether these problems have been fixed by Nokia in the 6288? Thanks.

This would be an excellent phone if it didn't have so many faults as most other people have said. It was brilliant at first until, it decided to start switching itself of, then resetting itself, not letting me change profile. Am on my third charger as they keep going wrong. Music player doesn't work properly that turns of sometimes. When I shut it sometimes it turns itself of & if you don't do anything with it sometimes it switches itself of as well.

The ease of use with this phone however is excellent & I cannot fault the texting, voice recognition or camera they have all worked fine for me. Apparently it is a flash drive problem in the phone. I have just sent mine away to get fixed & hope that it works fine again. A couple of my friends did this & received new fones one got a Nokia n70 & the other Nokia 6233.

I have a 6280 I bought on a 24mth plan from Vodafone. As a phone to make calls it seemed to work fine until, it will turn it self off in the middle of a call, there will be no reception in areas where five mins ago there were plenty of reception. I had a problem with text msg where I would receive an msg from someone overseas & the msg would be all alphabet soup as I would call it, Vodafone's excuse was that they didn't have an agreement with the particular carrier. The music player would turn off halfway through a song & the screen would go blank. I have had a complete software update from Nokia which fixed the text problem not to sure about the music player (got a ipod now) I have tried to set up my personal email on the phone (not Vodafone email) & have given up trying, even Vodafone techs cannot successfully send me the config settings via text msg it just won't work, the phone is back in the shop now as the screen broke for no apparent reason, I've given up waiting for this & purchased a new Motorola KRZR K1. Very disappointed with the Nokia.

Then it switched of one day & never came on so I phoned Nokia & then fixed it then a few weeks later the slider jammed so it had to be sent away again.

Then it switched off & never came on again so I gave up on it & got the fantastic Samsung d900 best phone ever.

This phone would be great if it didn't have so many faults. I can live with it freezing now & again & not recognising the SIM card but it is pretty annoying. The fact that it goes offline & decides not to have any reception &/or receive calls is a nightmare. It does this when I am at work where I have good reception. It often doesn't remember words on the dictionary which is frustrating.

Most importantly, the battery life is useless. However, I think I've found the root cause of that - the phone doesn't charge! It's now at the point where it doesn't charge at all - if you are willing to hold it upside down or at a strange angle, it might decide to charge for a few minutes. Vodafone have been great & are going to look into it for me but it's a massive hassle as I'll now be without a phone &, if they replace it, I'll lose the info I've saved on it.

Definitely PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING GETTING the Nokia 6280!

Firstly I would like to say when I first got this phone I LOVED IT! I thought no other phone could possibly be better, I even waiting the very long wait till it came into my store, after playing with my friends when the model first came out. But now, my opinion has completely changed & I would do anything too get a new phone but I paid the HIGH $660 price tag to buy this phone out right & I am so very disappointed in Nokia. I have only ever used there model phones & am DISCUSTED by this phone, it is not up too Nokia's NORMAL STANDARDS & when you call them they aren't much help either trying too get hold of them is a JOKE & even if you do they are FOS. There are too many things wrong with this phone to recommend it to any buyer, IT REALLY SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF the MARKET BY Nokia or RECALLED TO PROTECT OTHERS & THEY SHOULD ALSO COMPENSATE PREVIOUS BUYES/OWNERS. I do HOWEVER like the design it's seemed very easy too use when I first got it upgrading from my Nokia 7610 & I love the slide feature.

I got this phone about 6 months ago & little things have seemed to go wrong since then but have become more frequent recently. The first thing that happened when my phone was only a week old it wouldn't get a signal to even make the basic feature of a phone call I called Vodafone & they told me to do all the standard check batt & clean connections turn on & off, change phone from dual setting to just GSM & try that ect.

So I finally got that problem in order & then I started to MISS CALLS & MESSAGES from contacts that I was expecting to hear from & they would call me on my other phone asking why I am not replying or why my phone is off all the time even though it was on with FULL SIGNAL. Then a day or so later I would get a heap of messages going off on my phone from 2 days ago & a bunch of missed calls (WHEN MY PHONE WAS NEVER OFF).

Then I noticed recently my Bluetooth symbol was not visible (even though it is permanently left on to paired devices) so I tried to turn it on & its NOT WORKING it won't let me turn it on at all.

Then there is the CRACKLY SPEAKER both on normal & speaker phone or TOTAL LOSS OF SOUND during calls, & when it is working it can sometimes be EXTREAMLY QUIET for no reason at all then go back to normal & then quiet again (very annoying).

THERE ARE ALSO MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH the SOFTWARE (WHICH Nokia THEMSELVES HAVE ADMITTED TOO!). I have had all the standard problems so far:

-PHONE TURNS it self OFF sometimes
-REBOOTING for no reason
-FREEZING SCREEN (you have too take battery out of phone to fix)
-BLANK BLACK SCREEN (but you can hear sound & screen won't come up)
-SIM CARD NOT FOUND OR RECONIZED (even though I have never taken it out or changed it ever)
-message saying PHONE RESTRICTED
-USB stopped working for no reason
-HEADSET/enhancement is not recognised
-No SIGNAL or not able to find signal a lot (even though you haven't moved phone, sometimes signal doesn't come back on for a while either)

Phone also for no reason sometimes requests SECURITY CODE PIN, so I hope for your sake you no it, I didn't know mine when it asked & nearly PUK up my phone thinking it was the same as my PIN. But did find it & have now changed it to my own code for the many times in comes up now.

Camera is supposed to be a 2MP but the camera on my old Nokia 7610 was 100% better, but this phone does have a flash lets not forget, but it is COMPLETELY USELESS & might as well been left off the phone, taking photos in LOW LIGHTING is a JOKE the PICTURE QUALITY is TERRIBLE.

Then there is the DICTIONARY for when you are writing messages, it very rarely remembers any off the words you add too it while typing a message (so when you type that same word again later it will consistently ask you too add it to dictionary) CAUSE IT doesn't SAVE IT, you can however fix this by adding the words you want to the dictionary before you type the message & THEN THEY WILL SAVE if you do it this way but it is a TOTAL HACK AROUND!

Let's not forget the VOICE DIALING for those who use it like myself working on the road a lot. The VOICE DIALING in this phone is SO GOD DAMN PATHETIC. Unlike my old Nokia 7610 you could program your own voice dials using your own voice so it picked up on the words easier. This STUPID Nokia 6280 however doesn't let you do it yourself, all of your contacts voice dials are done by what sound like a stupid robot computer voice out of the movie SHORT CIRCUT, & it very very rarely seems to get what you say right, so what is the point of it, I think it is just built in too make the phone sound like it has another useless feature & too take up phone memory cause if it is wrong 90% why would you use it.

Contrary to what a lot off people are saying in there reviews, the FRONT COVER DOES COME OFF you just have to prize the top corners off first, they unclip & then two lugs on the bottom of slider (below keypad) just slide down to release. But the first time I tried too REMOVE COVER too clean DUST from underneath I broke the phone it came completely off the SLIDER RAILS & then had too be repaired. Its not the EASIEST cover to remove so please be careful doing so, cause you may break you phone like I did. (Nokia really should have made this more simple to do!)

Please don't listen to the good reviews on this phone, as these people I promise will almost certainly experience all or some of the problems I have already listed in this review, in the near future. This isn't a phone that will last you will wish you never brought it if you do by chance debate risking buying this phone hoping it won't happen too you,

Trust me you too will be on here in the future writing a review.

VERY disappointed Nokia!

1Gb memory card full of MP3, pics, videos & games, playing all day & it hasn't got any failure. The camera is great, the design is excellent, & the battery life is not too long. But with a big screen like that there's no battery that can resist, (let's be honest. It's a bunch of pixels to 'feed') but apart of that I have no complains about the phone. But like every machine, none is perfect. Until now. It has been 5*

If you look down on this page, you will have seen my review when I first got this phone, I said this phone was amazing, with nothing wrong at all, well, it has changed!

My 6280 now:
- Camera doesn't work.
- MP3 player doesn't work.
- Cannot play the videos that I had previously recorded before the camera packed its bags & went on strike.
- All applications fail.
- The phone freezers &/or switches itself off after everything, including just using the calculator.
- The speakerphone is faulty.
- Calling is terrible, I cannot hear people on the other side.
- The slide has become 'stiff' & takes a good amount of force just to open & close it.

The only thing my 6280 lets me do is send text messages, but even now, sometimes my messages aren't being sent.

So on Monday, I am taking this phone back with my list of problems, & see if I can get it fixed.

Oh, did I say my phone is less then 2 months old?

I got this phone on contract 2 months ago, while up until a week ago everything worked fine except not receiving a few messages from regular contacts which was annoying or some of my messages not sending for no apparent reason.

Within the last week or so it has started to go downhill, the back of the phone feels hot (overheated) & it keeps turning itself off even when it has full battery, or the battery life disappears within half an hour & the screen switches off. I don't no what to do with it as I cannot text from it or call from it. Will hopefully send it off for repair tomorrow.

In short, this phone doesn't live up to its expectation.

Nokia claimed tt the camera's 2MP. But it's much worst than my previous Panasonic 1.3MP & I've sent for repair twice, and the problems which everyone describes still persist. I am now too busy to send it for service 'and just living with all the shut dwn by itself 'and other problems.

Nokia thinks tt they've the reputation 'and can afford to produce such a lousy phone 'and thinking that we consumers will buy it nonetheless. Don't GET TRICK! Don't buy this phone.

Just felt tt we consumers are so helpless.

We can't get a new one nor can it be repaired till the phones satisfactory.

I am soo vexed.

I have had this phone for a while, I loved it at first but now it freezes it turns it self on & off, the signal goes all the time, thinks there's a problem with the internal aerial. The buttons are starting to stick, sometimes it comes up enter security code for no reason. & I didn't know the code, so I took the battery out & put it back in & it worked again.

But I think the phone has been a let down, a few of my mates have this phone too & they get all the same problems, its all good having the stuff on the phone but they haven't designed the phone to handle it, its to much & the battery life is rubbish. Nokias have always had the best reputation for this & there letting us down.

I wouldn't advise anyone to get the Nokia 6280. Rubbish & a waste of money.

The battery life is terrible will never last no more then 2 days, the memory is even worse, the camera isn't the best - you can't take pics in the dark as the flash is pathetic & the videos I haven't even bothered to try & record because its so poor quality! It also decides to turn it self off once every couple of weeks & resets everything, great! The only good thing about this phone is the design it does look good, but don't get it for that reason! I made the mistake of going back to Nokia after a Samsung phone I definitely, anything will be better then this phone!

There are too many things wrong with this phone to recommend it. I will say that I like the design & user interface we have come to know from Nokia. But it seems that Nokia no longer have a quality control department. One really annoying thing is the slider, it's loose & delicate. The connections between both halves of the phone are rubbish. Crackly speaker or total loss of sound from speaker, & when it is working it is extremely quiet.

Major problem with firmware. I have had all the usual problems: rebooting, freezing, blank screens, sim card not found, message saying phone restricted, USB stopped working, headset/enhancement not recognised, clock in capable of holding the right time, not able to find signal, I think that's everything.

Have had firmware updated, holding out so far, but headset & USB still not working, maybe physical damage. Impressed with camera. One last thing, the front cover DOES come off you just have to prize the top corners off first, they unclip & then two lugs on the bottom of slider (below keypad) just slide down to release.

Don't get this phone, purely for speaker quality & the loose slider. Don't listen to the good reviews of this phone, as the people writing them will almost certainly experience some of the problems I have already listed, in the near future.

Recently wouldn't receive any texts & for ppl I text on a regular basis wouldn't receive all the texts & the ones they did would arrive in bulk (although I had received delivery reports for them, have been told that this could be due to their handset 6111). Turns itself off & on or just off when had battery. Screen would go to white than black before going back to wallpaper. Ppl would phone & get through to answer phone when phone was on with reception & I'd have no record of it. Lots of dust in screen which makes it difficult to see in the day light. Link tried to fob problems off to other ppls networks & suggested sending it off. Good:-
- Nice look
- Large screen with memo reminders on front
- Good Camera

Bad:-
- Voice dial does not work
- Problems with Firmware

I have liked the look of this phone since it came out. I read many bad reviews & done my homework & it looks like the problems with predictive text not remembering words & the rebooting got sorted on a firmware version upgrade. My local Nokia agent can't do these phones yet & sent it away 4 days later got it back much better however. Does anyone use voice dial? Like from a Bluetooth headset while driving? I am a rep & use it 100% Well I have been a Nokia fan for years but they have made a big mistake. You can no longer record your own voice tags instead it creates its own & it does not work. I tried "home" & it tries to call Golden Valley? I contacted Nokia & was told I can't change it & this is on all there new phones. Bye Bye Nokia then which is a shame! Now on Sony K800I I would have never looked at this model I love it.

I have also had problems with this model randomly not letting me make any calls, send any texts or receive calls. This occurred when there was clearly network coverage (central London) & then also the network coverage would suddenly disappear (when I had not moved anywhere). As I have this as a business phone it is just not acceptable to not be able to make calls when there is no reason for this. This is the most basic & important feature of the phone! Or maybe I am mistaken & mp3s & cameras are more important these days?!

Also, can anyone find the calculator? Apparently it is supposed to be in menu > organiser > calculator, but is nowhere to be seen (my colleague also has the same problem).

Similar problems to other reviewers with battery life.

The phone looks good if not a little bulky. I like the large display & the idea of a slide design, but the slide on mine & others is very loose & rattles (I buy all sorts & test them for work).

- The dictionary didn't always save the words. Unbelievably annoying.

- The camera light is a good idea, but is just no good & should have been left off.

- The Battery - very poor 1.5 days max (even when using GSM only)

The most annoying feature I found was that the volume is quiet for the first few seconds & I keep missing calls or texts because of it. I just DO NOT believe that Nokia has this as a 'safety feature' - it is just a bug that they can't be bothered fixing. I also have found that unless the USB cable is not moved, it keeps disconnecting from my PC.

In Summary, the phone looks good & most of the features are as expected with the exceptions shown above.

Would I have another, NO. Now onto a Nokia 6233 & although better, it also has problems, I will review also.

I got mine recently & it had just came from Nokia, so maybe they have fixed the problem or maybe their are more "duds" out there then "good" handsets. Still, I am happy with my 6280, it has a good camera, excellent large display & very easy to transfer music & pictures from the computer to the phone. The standby generally lasts a day & a half for me, but that is with good use & using the MP3 player.

What a complete & utter piece of junk, first ever Nokia phone & certainly the last. Got stitched up by going onto the new Orange 3G network, what's all that about how many people can count on more than one hand other people with video calling! The software is hopeless when in 3G mode the phone gives error message after error message, Orange say "nothing to do with us Nokia are sorting it all out" so wait & see if someone can debug it then we will recall it or replace it but if it's not sorted within a month we may replace it.

Rubbish, Nokia won't admit to a fault with the phone either, "take it to the carphone warehouse & leave it for a couple of weeks" whilst some person chucks it round the service centre & runs up your bill!

Getting a dab hand at removing the battery & juggling the sim card every hour though!

This phone is generally terrible! To be fair though, the spec is excellent. The problems are mainly to do with the build, although I am completely dismayed with the battery life too. Typically, I have found the phone to have a standby time of between 6 hours & 48 hours, the other day I charged it from flat then looked at it literally a couple of hours later & it was almost flat again. Furthermore, I have had problems with connecting the phone via the cable, for some reason when plugged in the screen goes blank. The only way I have found around this problem is to 'synchronise' with my PC by infra-red! Last week came the worst though. For some reason after turning it on following charging it (from flat again! ) it decided that no matter what buttons I pressed it either didn't want to do anything or kept bringing up the new text message screen. Obviously I have contacted Nokia about these faults & all I got was a standard letter suggesting I return the unit for repair, well I am not going to do this, the phone is only a couple of months old. I had reservations about Nokia's from past experience but thought I would give them another chance, that was a big mistake. So it's back to the selection process, but this time I will go for a make I have much more confidence in.

Where do I Start. Have had 6280 for 6 months (too long) a week ago I tried to access saved messages on my phone & screen went black & then reset. I have lost all the memory on the phone including the WAP settings. I have tried with Vodafone three times to manually type in these configuration settings but to no avail. The phone can NOT be reconfigured. Basically the phone is just a useless piece of plastic with a battery attached. I now have to send the phone away to Nokia for repairs. As far as I am concerned Nokia was one of the best brands of phones to buy. Doesn't leave much choice after having 2 useless phones from Sony Ericsson & Motorola I wouldn't even offer to my worst enemy. Don't even get me started on LG phones. LOL

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!! I upgraded (downgraded) from a 6680 to the toy like 6280. The only good feature on this phone is the auto keypad lock.

The bad features are.......

- The slid is awkward.
- The keypad is to small.
- The camera is to awkward to activate.
- The bluetooth randomly disconnects from my handfree.
- When connected to handsfree you can't use zoom on the camera.
- When connected to car handsfree it randomly flashes the volume bar on the screen which mutes the car radio.
- You can't run more than one application at a time.
- You cant get into the call log from a missed call.
- The signal & battery life are very bad.
- The front camera is for video calls only.
- No cover over the rear camera.
- You can't use the camera when the battery is low.

I'm sure there would be more problems if I was keeping it longer. But 3 days was to much so my N73 should be hear tomorrow. On the plus side when you can get a signal the sound quality is quite good when making calls. But You sort of expect that, It's the other features that make it a good or in this case bad phone.

For me this is one of the best looking phones out, but the software is bad, boy is it bad. I'm on my 2nd phone & at present it's at the links repair shop for the 3rd & last time. the main fault is it turns itself off usually when using the music player, there's a beep & it turns off, then it reboots itself but says on the screen " restricted access" then asks for an unlocking code, or it wont turn off until you take the battery out then wont accept your pin number - very frustrating. The features on the phone are excellent, the camera is too, in fact if they could sort out the software it would be a fantastic phone.

Having said that when mine comes back from repair I'm going to see if I can exchange mine for an n73 (the reviews on this phone seem better). Someone I work with has this phone & he has had no problems, but look at the reviews, it tells a story. There are better phones out there please don't get this phone.

I switched from 6230i to the 6280 about 3 months. Initially I liked the phone since it had all I was looking for. Radio, MP3 & a good camera, big screen...

BUT ... today I regret buying this phone.

Problems I face:

1. Dictionary is useless - the words I've added don't appear next time - I have to type it without the predict feature...
2. Terrible reception - every once in a while, I see a message on the screen - "Cell info not available in this network" - & then there is no reception - I have to switch it off & on again
3. It shows there full network signal - but sometimes I don't get any incoming calls or msgs - one morning around 10ish, I got a call from my dad on the land line asking why my cell was off (it was on & showed full reception) - I switched it off & on - I received 12 missed call notifications (an sms by the cell service provider indicating missed calls when the phone was not available) - a total of 12 ... spanning from the previous evening...
4. It hangs & switches itself off & on ... especially when listening to the media player (mp3 songs)
5. Dust accumulation in the screen - & you can't open it to clean it - I think in about 12 month's time - I won't be able to view anything...
6. When the camera is on, I can't view a clean picture - a few dead pixels scattered here & there...
7. PC Suite software - when I synchronise with the phone - all the contacts on the phone which have "Type" as "Mobile" - get re-set to "General" - its a real pain to have to do it over & over again ... so much so I have stopped using the software ...

If you are planning on buying this phone, think twice ... I didn't have any of the above issues with my previous 6230i ...

Only redeeming feature for me is that the camera is OK but hey I only want a phone that works properly & I can rely on!

I will never have a phone without reading others reviews again. Problems from day 1 & am on 2nd phone which has been back a week only to have the same problems as the 1st one. Nokia have admitted a software fault with the phone but still wont le me change it to one more useful. It freezes cuts calls mid sentence & has to be rebooted as well as the slide sticking, the dust which accumulates in the screen is horrible as you can't remove covers to clean it. Waste of money beware!!!!

I have not had a Nokia for years & decided to return. This Model is full of the usual people friendly features that Nokia is known for. Easy to Navigate & has a superb camera that is sharp & very easy to use. Although it is a little bulky I am very happy with it. A+

Got this phone as an upgrade from Samsung D500 (old faithful for 18 months, no probs except alarm unreliable, had a few unscheduled lie-ins!) fancied larger screen too. Should have read reviews first, first phone returned due to poor reception & switching itself off, second phone going back tomorrow... good reception but switches itself off & loads of stupid little faults not tested all software as gone off it too much now. Also slider mechanism feels loose? Not smooth at all. Very inconvenient to keep changing like this, if so many people have had problems why continue to market this phone? Not having this phone... off Nokia now (again!). Liked the look of this phone, not reliable enough for me.

I have seen some terrible reviews for this phone on this website. All I can say is the one I have is fine, & the software is incredibly simple to use. Maybe there were some production problems earlier on, no excuse for that, but lets hope that they are resolved.

I had an upgrade with a dealer saying he was from 3 network, I was shocked when I got the phone, & it's a shame for nokia to manufacture a phone like that. The slide door is loose so as the back, the buttons are a bit shaky, it's not a heavy duty phone, & my old nokia memory card won't fit in it. The sad thing is that I can't exchange it. And 3 can't help me with that. My advice to everyone goes for the N80, N92, LGU400 or Sony Ericsson.

3 replacements... The main problem is the loose slider on the phone. The last of the three I've had is worst that any of the others. Shocking build quality for Nokia. I can see that the problem is the two metal bars on the slide mechanism moving about, the mechanism is not tight, but loose & my lid even moves from side to side. I pay £45 a month on Orange & I am not happy at all. I feel if I send this back again I'm just going to keep getting poor phones, it seems to be all the Nokia 6280's.

It's a really great phone. I have no complaints whatsoever. I thought of buying a 6680 or n70 before, but when my dad got me this, I was just blown away because it's so cool. All my friends love it, they think it's the cutest & coolest phone they've ever seen. A classmate of mine wanted to buy a 6680 phone, but when he saw my phone, he changed his mind. He's buying a 6280 now.

Recently upgraded to this from a very reliable Nokia 6230i so I had high expectations. Unfortunately they were not met & I'm still in dispute with the Carphone Warehouse about getting a handset change.

On paper the phone looks really good & the slide design is nice. However, poor build quality & endless flaws in the phones operating system make it a poor choice & almost unusable. I have had two faulty handsets so far & still do not have a correctly working phone. Common problems include:

- Loose slide mechanism.
- Poor battery life.
- Dead pixels on the screen.
- Phone settings such as wallpaper resetting themselves when the battery runs out or the phone is turned off.
- SD cards are not hot swappable.
- Predictive text that does not work, spelt out words are not saved & word suggestion is missing (communication with Nokia has revealed that they know about this problem!)...

And the list goes on. If you are thinking about getting this phone then don't. Nokia seems to have lost the plot with the 6280. If you are after a 3G phone with a good camera then either wait for Nokia to release something of acceptable build quality & with a stable operating system or look to other manufacturers.

Oh & by the way Nokia have changed the size of the charging socket on this phone so you won't be able to use any of your old chargers, car charger accessories etc.

I would never recommend this phone to anybody. It is the most appallingly unreliable phone I have ever had. Nokia are usually very good but the 6280 is a disaster - battery life is awful, the software is haphazard at best & the design is shoddy. Do NOT buy this phone.

I hate this phone. Its rubbish. I got an unlocked one from abroad, brand new & it had half the features of my last nokia. Maybe because it was unlocked I don't know. The dictionary never stored new words, there was no message report option, no live streaming, no front camera except for video. The phone used to die if I did more than one thing at a time with it, accessing the memory card was like waiting for paint to dry & you had to dig around in the menus to find any extras. Mind the camera was good, unless you zoomed in as then once down loaded onto pc you could not expand it. No life blog, oh & it kept returning to the nokia ringtone every time it was switched on & off. Shall I go on?

Anyway it's gone, got a N80 that's ace happy happy. Move on!!!
Nokia got it wrong.........

Be very very careful before buying this phone. I upgraded to it (with o2) just over a week & a half ago & received a faulty handset. Got it replaced: new one was faulty. Got it replaced..... New one was faulty. Three handsets, all broken. Problems included: broken keypad on the front of the phone, broken (& rattling) slider (this was on the last two handsets), sporadic turning-off whilst running applications or calling or texting or on the internet, & every so often the phone would reset profiles & wallpapers when it had been turned off & back on. This phone's features are outstanding, the screen is gorgeous but it feels very plasticky & fragile, & has major software issues. Having said that, if you get one that works then it will be awesome. But good luck with that...

I upgraded to this phone from a Nokia 6230I. It looks great, has good features, but quite frankly this phone is rubbish! It would not make or receive calls after being used with a Bluetooth earpiece. Only switching it off & back on again would solve the problem. Also I got a text message & the phone beeped in the normal way, but would not stop vibrating! I had to remove the battery to stop it! I cannot understand Nokia bringing out a phone without first testing it. By all accounts, it needs a software upgrade to get rid of many faults that I have read about & encountered. This upgrade is not yet available thus making this phone useless. If you are thinking about getting one, don't.

I got this phone on the 3 network, when it arrived the build quality was so poor the memory card holder would not stay in place & the card itself kept popping out. The back came unclipped just by picking it up & as it was an 18 month contract I sent the phone back as there was no way it would last that long. I re-signed with 3 & went for the Sony Ericsson K800i, which also has 3 megapixel, & mp3 etc. The Sony K800i arrived & it is an amazing phone!! So much better than the Nokia 6280, solid build quality, flash, no stupid sliding keypad (which means I can use a case). Long live Sony Ericsson, Nokia must try a lot harder as they are slipping fast!!!

This is a great phone. Chunky but feels good in the hand the sliding motion is nice & positive - at least for now. I've had it 3 weeks on the 3 network. Menu not as good as on previous Nokia's I've had but still better than most other manufactures. Downsides are that phone battery lasts a day & a bit if used above average & barely lasts a day if you use a Bluetooth headset which I do as i'm in car a lot. I'm used to PDA's that need recharging daily so not a shock to me but friends who have Nokia 6210's that last 5/6 days wouldn't like it, I now have a charger in car so no problem anymore. Camera options both still & video are great 2 megapixel isn't a lot but it's more than most phones & works ok. One last gripe - phone will only hold up to 500 contacts in internal phone memory (less once you start filling up with other stuff) - for most this will be more than enough but its annoying it doesn't use memory in SD card. In all would I recommend this phone - yes. I had the option to swap b4 14 days & didn't.

Battery standby is not lasting more than 2 days, the phone has to be recharged daily when used for a couple of hours. Lots of noise during talktime. When the phone is switched off the phone settings are automatically changed!!!!! Very disappointed with the phone as always been a nokia fan. But even more disappointed with the t-mobile network who would not exchange the phone for a different handset even when I explained that the phone does not live within the advertised specifications & within 2 weeks of upgrading!!!!

Personally I never buy slide or flip phones as they are prone to damage more easily than standard handsets which have no moving parts. I think for the BIG size nokia would've implemented symbian OS -in addition to the restarts & charging failure issue which is probably a software bug no doubt in several months (too late) time nokia will have a software update available at its service centres. However leads me to think how much actual product testing they do??!! I have seen upcoming new models such as n73 but the dimensions of nokia 3G handsets don't quite hit the mark e.g. the sony ericsson (no slide or flip range) K608i is far better in size compared to nokia equivalent (no slide or flip range) 6680, n70 e.t.c

This phone is not what i expected from Nokia, as it has higher standards than this. the phone decide to shut down when it feels like & does not decide to charge. it restarts with a nokia screen & then turns blank. basically this phone is unreliable as i would have used this on a daily basis.

Best features would be dual camera, video up to hour, mms, email, instant messaging sound cool & the technology should be excellent with 3G, Edge & Bluetooth. The more I think about it the more I want it.

Nokia 6280 is too complicated for a simple user like me, I cant send emails, cant get MMS messaging to work & I am about to smash it against a very hard wall. I was looking at this site for a replacement but as I was here decided to share my very strong feelings with all that are interested. I am thinking about getting a Sony Ericsson very soon, this site is useful & informative.
