Nokia 6131 Review

The Nokia 6131 is a comfortable & slim mobile phone with a fold opening mechanism. The flip opening mechanism can be opened with one touch from the user which is a very smooth experience. The 6131 has a very stylish & compact handset which is available in four colours which include black, white, red & sand. The coloured handset comes with a soft to touch paint finish which makes the handset very tactile. The 6131 weighs 112 grams which is not light but the handset feels solid & sturdy for having the extra weight. The size of the handset is 92 x 48 x 20 mm which will feel great in the users hand. The Nokia 6131 comes from the same family as the Nokia 6136 & the Nokia 6125 & although all these phone have a flip opening mechanism they are very individual with reference to their integrated features.

The phone has dual colour screen & the internal screen comes with a beautiful TFT QVGA 16.7 million true colour display (320 x 240 pixels). The external screen comes with a TFT 262k colour display (128 x 160 pixels) which is very colourful & clear. The internal & external screens can be used as full screen viewfinders when the user is taking normal photos & self portraits.

This is a great little phone. Had mine for two years & no problems whatsoever. It still looks immaculate as I have taken good care of it. Great big keys, really impressive screen, quad band, Bluetooth, MP3 etc. A doddle to call & text with but the camera could be better. Disappointing that they have been discontinued. When this one dies I am buying one from eBay.

A word to the wise though, don't buy a new one from Hong Kong, they're fakes.

Nokia 6131 is excellent I like it I find it very easy to use for someone with a disability I find it very easy to read & operate. There are only two things I do not like is when I take it off from charging it says camera on standby & I cannot get it too turn off & the other thing I do not like is that when you are texting it is too quick & I make mistakes can I slow this down I have looked in manual very hard to understand manual other than that I would give Nokia 6131 a five star rating. Thank you. Barbara.

I have this phone for 1 year & I already send it to repairs 6 maybe 7 times. That really annoys me. I couldn't hear anyone who was calling me (example. I answered & I didn't hear the person who was calling me, except through the speaker.)

Battery is OK (not as bad as everyone is saying), lasts for 3 to 5 rarely 7 days. Camera is bad, video is ever worse. However sound quality is excellent (10 out of 5).

Overall 2 out of 5.

Overall (if it wouldn't break that much) 4 or 5 out of 5.

I had this phone for a little over 2 years before replacing it this week.

PROS.
It did me well for the two years. Very intuitive to use, nice design, especially considering Nokia's clamshells on the whole aren't very appealing. Nice big screen & keypad. Camera of reasonable quality (I don't care much about phone cameras seeing as I use my digital camera for proper photos).

CONS.
As others have mentioned, after about a year & a half the front screen would go blank or invert for no reason. Whenever I switched the phone on, the main screen would take up to 5 minutes to load. Eventually, the charger went bust & refused to charge the phone (I managed to charge it with my new phone's charger, so it's not a problem with the phone itself). The inner & outer coating also peeled off after a while. More recently, the speaker has stopped working properly meaning the phone doesn't always ring.

On the whole, I did love this phone & would have happily used it for another few years had it not started to give up on me!

Not a bad phone though its CPU is slow & if it's in your pocket then most times one will notice its lid has pressed down to activate several keys, its two little rubber controls need enlarging. Lucky I don't use one number dialling, also camera or off buttons on its outside are easily knocked whilst in your pocket, plus the flash key pad lights & mini display just burns up its power, all & all a reasonable phone though I did like my Nokia GX25 witch was smaller till it got stolen. You all have a groovy one then, bye.

I really like this phone! I have had it for almost a month. The reason I got it is that I wanted to have Bluetooth. But this phone does more than that! I bought a 2GB memory card & already I put a lot of stuff on it! When the screen goes blank it's better to turn off Bluetooth. The best sight to download games, themes, videos, wallpapers is Nokia Mosh & Zedge. The only problem with this phone is that you can only move stuff around on the phone with your PC. All in all a great phone.

I have had this phone now for 18 months. I too found that the paint start to come off on the outside of the phone & the inside.

I too get problems with the mini screen appearing blank & the only solution is to turn the phone off & then switch if back on again & wait for the prompt on the outside screen asking me to open the phone & input security code.

I am now having problems with the main display not switching on when I open the phone. This is really annoying & again the only solution seems to be the same as the mini screen problems.

However, up to this point I have found the phone to be everything I expected when I opted for this phone, I knew the camera wouldn't be brilliant, but it's better than I thought, text messaging is typical Nokia, excellent. Not much memory on the phone so I bought a memory card & now I have everything I need on the phone. The graphics on the games is pretty cool also.

Charging the phone isn't a problem as I always charge my phone overnight whilst I am sleeping.

I am due for an upgrade & the only reason I am not getting a 6131 this time is the novelty of having a flip phone has worn off. If my next phone doesn't meet my expectations then a new 6131 is definitely on the horizon.

Phone has pleasantly surprised us with functionality, reasonableness of options & quality of their realization, Nokia, & without that differing successful experience of understanding of users, continues to develop in the given direction. But it seems to us the novelty does not have not enough bright, expressive design. Having worked as follows above appearance, developers repeatedly would increase loyalty of consumers to a novelty. In fact everyone wish to have not simply functional, but beautiful phone.

My 5th Nokia in 11 years & two of the previous four are still in daily use. This phone is neat, simple & works well once you're used to it. Needs daily charging if used a lot, it would be even better without a camera which I don't need.

Awful, awful phone. I've had mine for 18 months & from day have had problems, as follows.

- Small screen on front of phone regularly goes blank, & I have to remove battery, sim & reset phone.

- Any sniff of a dodgy reception & the phone just cuts out in the middle of sending a message, guess what, the only solution is to take the back off, remove battery & sim etc. (above recommended by the Carphone Warehouse where phone was purchased).

- Now, the battery is faulty, the phone works up the effort to send a message & just goes blank - white screen, no logo or features.

All of the above have been regularly reported to place of purchase, & guess what, I was told that they can be temperamental. I'd avoid this phone, it looks lovely, sounds lovely & has a great camera, but it doesn't seem to have the battery & technical clout to cope with all of its features, including 2 screens. An expensive phone that in my case has been written off after 18 months.

Unlucky for my phone, it falls a lot, a lot! So it's scratched & last night it broke from one side, I am searching for another flip phone & on my top list are Moto u9 & Samsung l320, if they are not as good as my 6131 I'll honestly get a new 6131!

I've had this phone for two years now, & I have fallen in love with it! So much so that when the time came for a change I have swapped it for. You guessed it, another Nokia 6131 (this time in a lovely silvery pink colour, VERY rare)!

OK, there ARE downsides, for example the camera doesn't have a flash & the battery life isn't great. But these are outweighed by its great design, excellent usability & superb reliability. I can't understand those that say the paint peels off in two years (as an average user) there is not a scratch on mine. Just don't keep it in the same pocket as your keys!

If you buy one, you won't be disappointed. Nokia has finally designed a flip phone we can fall in love with!

I've had this phone for a week now & am shocked by the poor battery life. It needs charging once or twice a day! Also the little piece that covers the USB port & headset will definitely break off soon. On the plus side it is very easy to use, with a good interface. No flash on the camera however. Will keep it as I like the flip mechanism but worried about that little piece breaking off!

I've had this phone for 18 months, my phone company are nagging me to upgrade but Nokia don't seem to be making phones like this anymore! If you're a fan of Nokia, this phone will do everything you expect it to do.

The camera's not great, the pain chips off, & the battery life isn't excellent but who expects a phone to last for days?

But text manageability is beautiful, calls are simple, volume control brilliant & yes it looks sleek. The button flip is addictive & I've never made an accidental call from my bag!

Nice phone, flips open nicely by pressing a button at the side, good design, & as all Nokia phones, very easy to use.

Only 2 complaints, the paintwork peels off very easily & the top of the phone where you plug in the earpiece or USB port to connect to your PC is not well designed. The little piece to open to connect your devices will break off with use.

I purchased this phone on eBay about 2 months ago. The phone has been operating perfectly, I've been very happy with it until I recently went to use the camera on it.

Everytime I click the capture button the 'camera on standby' screen appears, as well as this, the camera symbol gets a red 'slash' through it. When I turn the camera on there is a blue & white checkered symbol under the camera symbol (I didn't notice if that was there before the problem arose).

The camera was working perfectly fine one day then the very next this started. I've asked 2 of my photography teachers to look at it but they don't know either.

I have a 2GB memory card in the phone but I don't think that is the cause. I've tried taking it out but no change. There doesn't appear to be any setting options that would affect it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please reply ASAP.

It is unbelievable that after 13 months the mobile will become unserviceable. I strongly recommend not to buy this phone.

Terrible. The quick opening button was cool at first but it randomly opens up in your pocket/bag & you can only shut it by opening it all the way out. Very annoying. The camera is useless in a dark room as there is no flash but is fine outside. If you shut the phone you would expect it to close all running applications, it doesn't & by the time you realise, it has run the battery down. Oh, the battery, yes it's also terrible. I charge mine up every day.

The shutter speed is so slow that when the picture is finally taken the subject has moved! The only redeeming feature is the keypad which is great to text. Other than that the sound & usability are rubbish. Got rid after 3 weeks! Stay away.

I have this phone for over a year now. I have never faced any problem with this phone as yet. It's a great phone with an impressive design. Camera is good but only for the day shots, not too explicit ones. Rest other features are also very usable & good. The only thing which is lacking in this set is the battery life. Earlier I charged it around every third day. But now I need to charge it every second day. Still it's a good phone as a whole. This is a great phone & has a great user interface. Nice large buttons make texting really easy. The sounds quality was also excellent when making calls.

The camera is really bad, but then I didn't buy it to take photos.

Battery life was shocking. Even without making any calls it only lasts about 3 days before needing a charge.

I got rid of this phone after 11 months because something when wrong with the charging port which meant it would no longer charge.

This phone looks great, feels good but has some downsides. The biggest design-flaw is that the top half moves around a little bit, making it possible for the keyboard to engrave itself into the shell & screen. I've only had it for 3 months, & the damage was clearly visible. Had it sent back for repairs, only to have it returned un-repaired.

I have had this phone for 8 months now & when I first got it I loved the shape & feel of the phone, I also thought that the features seemed OK, you can put lots of info under each contact & it automatically puts a voice tag to each name to which saves having to do it yourself.

I then took 6 photos & the memory was full (how rubbish is that) so I had to buy a memory card so that I can put photos on the caller id bit. The battery only last 2 days (as long as you don't use your phone, otherwise you will need to charge it every day). The photos are also really grainy unless you are outside in a really good light. Don't bother videoing anything either as videos only last 15 seconds & if you try to add the function to the caller id the phone switches off.

I have now had to send the phone off to the engineers as suddenly the back light won't work which means I cannot see anything on the screen. This phone is probably the worse Nokia I have had & I have been an avid fan of Nokia for 10 years. Don't WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PHONE.

I have had this phone for a year now, & as a lot of people have said the battery is EXTREMELY poor. I also cannot charge without holding the charger (I used to charge whilst I was sleeping but now cannot do that! ) the camera is totally shocking! Although I have taken some great pictures outside in the daytime as soon as you bring it inside the quality is so poor (very grainy, dark) that I have given up on it altogether. Although my contract doesn't end for another 6 months so I can't get a free upgrade yet, I have purchased the Sony Ericsson K810i, although it is £230 I am more willing to pay that than put up with this awful phone. I have had problems receiving text messages lately - resulting in me turning my phone off & on again then getting maybe 20 in one go! You cannot store text messages on the MicroSD card, & as the phone memory is poor this is very annoying, having to delete all your messages once in a while. If you want a stylish phone that you do not use often for taking pictures (or. Charging!) then get it, otherwise don't bother. You WILL be disappointed. Get the K810i instead.

Lovely design, right size & feel.

Minuses:

- Short battery life if you use it much.
- Have to be very careful with the screen because it is unprotected.
- Can't save messages on the SIM card, & can't copy anything from the phone to the SIM card, an annoyance if you change phones for any reason.
- System seems to work somewhat slower that some Samsung & Sony Ericsson phones I used.

The rest is fine with me.

Good: Flip phone, easy to use.

Bad : Battery is rubbish have to charge 1 - 2 days & recently it hasn't been charging properly. I have to hold the phone in a particular way for it to charge & still it doesn't sometimes.

Needs more space I can fit like 1 song on my phone including with the images. The paint work has peeled in some places & made it look raggy.

Can get dirty easily. The smooth texture always leaves marks even if you clean it thoroughly.

Even though it says it had 16.7 million colours the camera is rubbish especially in night time or where there is not much light.

Video use is rubbish.

I wouldn't recommend this phone as it never charges. This is my 2nd phone of Nokia 6131 & the same problem has occurred. It is really annoying because you may wake up in the morning to find the battery is dying. There are a number of reasons why shudnt get it. It isn't as good as everyone makes out.

Great phone! I love its design, the themes look terrific. The speaker sound is a little lacking. It is either too slow or too 'shrill', so I have to be careful when I use a realtone of my liking.

The music player is wonderful. I find it even better than the one on my Nokia 5300 XpressMusic. It plays my songs on the stored order (& not mixing them alphabetically by song title), & it does NOT include the realtones on the playlist.

Oddly, I can listen to my music using stereo Bluetooth headphones. But the radio does not work with them (it asks me for an audio enhancement). I can hear radio only by using the supplied stereo wired headphones.

This phone was excellent for about 2months then it all went badly wrong. My 1st problem was the battery, I was unable to charge my phone without physically holding the charger into it & on top of this I could not receive or send messages 50% of the time. I took it back to the o2 shop where they sent it away for repair for 2 weeks, only to tell me it could not be fixed & gave me a reconditioned one (which was badly scratched & damaged for starters!) as I had already been without a phone for 2weeks I had to take it, but yet again within a month worse faults appeared. No sound at all during phone calls, texts not getting through, turning itself of etc. Phone sent off for a second time, another 2 weeks, lasted 3 months this time before going totally haywire & decided to repeatedly send blank messages to my entire contact list (using £14 of credit) before vibrating constantly for 30 seconds & finally dying totally. Not at all amused, I again took my phone back to the O2 shop only to be told it has to be repaired 3 times before I get a new phone. I did not accept this as it is against the trading standards laws, finally given a new Nokia handset. Totally unacceptable DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!

The phone is really easy to use & the display on the screens is very clear. I don't have any problems with this phone at all, I am very attached to it. It's true that the battery life is a bit rubbish, well, very rubbish actually, but I charge my phone most nights & have a charger at work & carry one around in my bag all the time. I have had my 6131 for six months. The short battery life never troubled me & was more than made up for by the features. As a live music reviewer I found it so useful to be able to type in notes during & after a performance & zap them into the PC on Bluetooth when I got home; the function was easy to use. The camera & video camera were as good as I needed, the calendar very user-friendly - it was everything I wanted from a phone.

Now, however, the backlight on the screen has stopped working. I took it in for repair but was told that it was water damage & therefore not covered by the warranty.

I have never dropped this phone in water or anything like that. All I have done is carry it around in my pocket in the normal circumstances which I have with every other phone I've had. Sometimes it can get hot & humid in nightclubs, sometimes I walk in the rain. If the phone is not capable of this then it is not fit for purpose.

Music reviewing is not my day job, I am a reliability engineer in an electronics factory. I know a lot about the sorts of temperature & humidity testing which is required of electronic products & believe that my handset would have failed if sample tested to these parameters. I will be taking the case up legally with Nokia but in the mean time am left using an old handset I thought I had seen the back of, as it's 6 months before my contract renews. I am angry & feel robbed.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE, IT IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.

It's a year now with the 6131. The battery is a nuisance. Needs recharge after 1.5 days/daily. The mini screen goes off frequently & sometimes the phone hangs in mid-operation. Not happy with the camera especially with low light. Video not the best. The Peeling of the black paint is making it ugly. No accessories.

On positive side; Good sound, wide screen, flip button, presenter with power point, friendly keypad.

With negatives, Nokia deserve a product recall as it is a shame to the technical team. Nokia has been quit despite of the customer complains. Solve these problems.

My Nokia 6131 is now 2 MONTHS OLD. I liked most things about it apart from the totally useless battery. The Nokia brochure says standby time 'up to 240 hours'. I certainly feel that I was MISLEAD. It barely lasts 2 days after a full charge & NO talk time. The second problem that has just manifested itself is that the mini-display does not work. I have set the mini-display with the digital clock screen saver. Display lasts A FEW HOURS then the mini screen goes blank. The only way to restore mini screen display is to switch phone off & switch back on again. What a pain! If I choose to send it for repair I am told that the repair would take up to about 6 weeks. How hopeless is that? I have always been under the impression that Nokia were about the best phones available. I am SSSOOOOOO rapidly changing my mind.

I think this phone is great! I have had it for 7 months now, & the only thing that I can complain about is the battery life, but I text a lot, & I mean a lot, & I still get a good 2 days out of it, 3 if I don't talk much. It's fiddling with the features when you first get the phone that runs it down a lot!

I love sending emails from this phone too, a handy feature. & with a mini SD card, there's loads of memory.

I love the fact I can take pics & store them on my comp too, which saves phone memory. Pics are best quality in daylight, but that's fine with me!

I have NEVER had a problem with the soft touch paint, mine looks brand new still after 7 months, & I have no case for it, it goes straight in my handbag.

In all, a great phone, good features if you are a more basic user, & cool MP3 ringtones, so no more paying out for tones! :-)

This is the WORST phone I have ever owned, the battery life is less than useless, it cuts out for over 30 secs on every important call I have to make then decides whether or not it wants to turn back on.

I bought a 512MB memory card & the phone will only allow me to use 200MB of this so I have to keep transferring my music & pictures onto my laptop.

I also use this phone for work purposes & I have noticed that I can either never hear the other person, or I am deafened by them!

The Bluetooth is next to useless, I read in another report that they could only connect to about 5% off the people they wanted to. Lucky you! I have trouble getting connected to the person next to me let alone anyone else!

I can't wait for my upgrade as I am sick to death of wandering round phone shops & returning the phone to my suppliers waiting for yet another one to be sent through.

Please discontinue this phone & put everyone out of their misery, thank you.

Power & camera buttons at the side poor design, because you can hit them by mistake when holding phone & talking. BATTERY UTTERLY, TOTALLY & COMPLETELY USELESS. Nokia advertises standby time as 'Up to 240 hours' (10 days). RUBBISH. Tried it with FULL battery & no calls in or out, it did not last 48 hours (2 days). I am an old fashioned girl - I use mobile phones for calling people & sending texts & wanted something simple so haven't used a number of the functions on this phone & probably never will.

When I first got the phone I was slightly dreading how I was going to transfer all of my contacts across, given the phone does not come with a data cable, however, after having put the software on my laptop, the infrared function worked well in transferring numbers across from Outlook, where dates can also be stored in its calendar. & everything is backed up which is great.

The battery is not Nokia's finest, but I have found it becoming more robust with use, & can go for about 3-4 days between charges. I still find Nokia's systems very intuitive & texting is particularly easy. The handset itself looks very smart, does not seem to show up dirt (or it wipes off) & I like the flip. Wrist strap would have been nice, but maybe that is just me.

There are better phones out there for people who want to play music, take pics or make videos. I don't, so am perfectly happy with this handset.

Hi I have had this phone 4 like 8/9 months. It's very good but the problems are that the battery dies really quickly. I need to charge it everyday & if I am lucky every 2 days. It even happens when I don't use my phone often. Also the camera let me down. It says the phone had 16 million pixel thingies & one of the reasons I got the phone was because of the camera, however the picture doesn't always cum out very clearly especially when you start to zoom in. It goes very blurry, also another problem is the phone unlocks itself when it's in the pocket which can cause the battery to die quicker. This really annoyed me.

Good phone but could be better think about it before you get it.

The soft paint has started to peel but I have covered the phone with a silicon case. Problem solved

The battery is poor but if the phone is charged every night you won't have a problem.

Reading through some of the reviews above a lot of the problem people have had can be resolved, check the manual the key pad can be locked & automatically switches back to open when you open the flap.

Sound on the video player can be mute by pressing the hash key whilst playing.

There is a host of features which are in the design.

I had 3 different Sony Ericsson phones to try before this & found them a little bland.

Although my misses has just bought a w850i which does seem a vast improvement.

Hello every1

I brought this Nokia phone thinking it was going 2 b a quality phone! I love all the features of the phone but in less than a wk of owning the 6131 Nokia I've got a prob with the outer mini screen.

The screen still lights up but has no clock network or general info, I plan on taking the phone back 4 a replacement I am shocked that a Nokia has broken down in less than a wk usually a very reliable make of mobile phone !

Has any1 else had this same prob plz let me know?

Nokia 6131 just well design but some features are not possible to reach user purpose:

- Camera is too slow, can not shot a running car.
- There is no flash for capture picture in dark rooms.
- Small in mega pixel (should be 3.2mp)
- Battery should be 400h in standby.

The camera button is too sensitive & switches on accidentally 90% of the time it is placed just where you hold the phone when making a call). Compared with the 6101 I had before, the battery life is poor. The large fonts are also too small. That being said it is ok to use & isn't too bulky.

I've been using my 6131 for 5 weeks. It's an excellent unit with more features than I can comprehend. Easy to use & personalize. Only complaints: poor battery life, camera switches on when I grab the phone, I use the portable hands free & I find the battery cover keeps popping off, difficult to switch off alarm at 5:00am & finally I inadvertently keep pushing the PTT button. If you can put-up with the above, I highly recommend it. 100 positives Vs 5 negatives.

Had the 6131 about 5 weeks now & this is my 5th Nokia phone (through choice not breakages) & they just get better & better with the 6131 being the best I have owned yet, easy menu system as on all Nokia's, good screen quality & easy texting even for a gorilla like me, the e mail was a doodle to set up off the Nokia site, if u want any storage then u need a micro sd memory card which I got so as not to clog the phone with clutter & any pics or files are saved straight to the memory card, easy. I borrowed a mates Sony Ericsson while I waited for delivery & I couldn't give it back to him quick enough, give me my Nokia any day, even the misses likes it & she is of the opinion a phone is a phone, all this & a 2 year warranty, sorted.

Have had this phone for a week now & I'm really pleased with it. Got it as a free upgrade so really can't complain about anything!

Have seen many reviews complaining about the battery life but it seems fine to me. Have only had to charge it twice since getting it but I haven't been using the MP3 player or radio functions so guess that may have saved me a lot of charge. Was slightly disappointed with the size of the internal memory & the fact that no additional memory card was supplied, but you can get buy these for next to nothing, so not a huge problem. Saw someone mention they were a bit skeptical about the button to open the phone- you do not have to use this, can just open in the usual way, but I have found it quite useful if I only have one hand free when the phone rings! Also re. the camera being activated while in your pocket/bag- there is a keypad lock (that can be set to turn on automatically) which I've found v.useful in stopping this from happening!

Overall, I feel that the phone more than serves its purpose, I already have a digital camera so the fact that this 'only' has a 1.3 megapixel camera is not really an issue. Have also managed to get round the fact that the lack of memory meant I couldn't personalise my ringtones, by recording my boy friend & using that instead (much to his horror!)

As usual Nokia have managed to provide a phone that combines all the latest features with ease of use which is definitely a bonus in my opinion!

I have this phone in Silver & Red & really love it so far. Warning however, my hubby has the black soft touch version but mine is not the soft touch feels like paint one. I do prefer the soft touch feel of hubby's but I can live with standard silver type! My ideal Nokia! The browser is fast & screen & camera quality is good. Love the button to flip the screen & the features are all that I need. Mp3 player & stereo sound is excellent & plenty of storage on a 1G memory card which I bought. Only complaints are battery life is short & Nokia could supply a memory card as my unlocked version was supplied without this. Never mind, I can live with these minor irritations. Excellent phone so far & recommended.

The 16 million colours, 320 x 240 screen with is the best feature. The menu features are very good as always with nokia mobiles. The good features are obvious. Let me tell you what's not so good. Camera is not so good in dim light. But has 5 filters to get a visible picture. The speaker appears to squeal a bit sometimes in between a call & the loudspeaker is noisy at high volumes. The outer feel on black phones is rubbery but heard that its not so in White phones. Battery is not as good as other nokia phones. Found that setting the screensaver & wallpaper off on mini & main displays does save lot of power. Tried downloading few mobile java games & shockwave files through the PC suite. But they did not run. Also the user memory is not exactly 11MB. Its somewhere around 9MB.

Overall I'm happy with the phone at the price :)

I just got this phone a few days ago. It is simple to use, especially if you have used an older model Nokia phone because most of the same rules still apply. The keys are large so it's easy to message quickly etc. It is efficient & very handy & quick to use- not much lag time. I think the sound is really good. The battery life is not that great. If you want to use it many times throughout the day you will prob have to recharge every night or at least every second night. Overall I think it's great, it's compact, stylish, good colour screen & engineered well.

I've been using the phone for a week now & the once eccentric aesthetics of the one click to open flip phone has started to grow on me. The Nokia 6131 has an adequate loud speaker which can be tied along to an expanded microSD memory card of up to 2gigs to become an adequate ipod replacement. There are two fundamental flaws to this phone which include an inadequate battery life especially when playing music etc. & a less than adequate 1.3 mp camera with a useless night vision function & no flash. Overall I love this phone but recommend purchasing an extra battery with the phone & only taking pictures in good lighting.

As a loyal Nokia user who has had to turn to the dark side & borrow a mate's Sony Ericsson k750i having had a stolen 7610, thank god I'm back to Nokia, after that annoying joystick.

Choose the 6131 as an economical replacement option from my service provider & was stunned with the features of this little surprise package. Simplicity without compromise; compact, reasonably stylish small enough & robust. Super display colour, simple fat keys for easy messaging, adequate MP3 & full connectivity options.

Sure some phones have big storage, slightly better music players & 2 MP cameras but if you're like me & have an i-pod, & good digital camera, who needs these? To me a worthwhile '3 in one' - camera - Mp3 player & phone in a compact design is still a long way off.

Battery drains a little quickly but no hassle to charge overnight, & whilst usually not a fan of flip phones, I've warmed quickly to it & had no hassles.

Don't be fooled by the likes of the overpriced LG chocolate & its looks - more features in the 6131 for a way better price tag.

Have had this phone for four days now & deciding whether to keep or exchange. Past two years had sony ericssons so got to re-adjust again.

Firstly flip button works fine, better than fine. Keep flipping it open & shut all the time. Screen is fantastic! Went back to my K750i to bluetooth some pics etc across & wondered how the hell I have put up with that screen. I know most screens have similar pixels now 240x320 ish & haven't seen one to compare but the colours on pics look great on this phone.

Phone is very quick, much quicker than ericssons which makes me not want to go back to sony. No lag at all when flicking through menus & to open messages. All very smooth same when flicking through stored pics.

Camera is very clear in well lit conditions but no good in dim light, no flash & night vision not great.

Re-organising button functions is not as co-operative as ericssons but its speed makes it all unnecessary anyhow really.

One thing I heard was a problem was the camera key on the side activating in your pocket, this has not been a problem & needs a hefty push to get it going. Only gripe with it is you cannot turn camera back off you have to open phone & do it.

Battery power is not great, I guess on general use you would need to charge pretty much every night, & getting two days might be a bit of a push. How much of a problem this is I don't know. Did put me off at first but I re-charge every night anyhow so thinking to myself where's the problem.

I like to make sure phone I have is best available to me if I gonna keep it for 12 months. Been shopping around for ages before I came up with this. Turned down ericsson k800i cause put of ericsson after k750i joystick died on me after few months & kept crashing more than couple times a week.

This is a neat little clamshell, with great feel to it (soft paint) & weight & size feel perfect as do the buttons inside. Sound & picture is clear. You will need to buy memory card though as little memory & no data cable included.

Overall hmmmm. Better battery & camera flash/torch would have sealed the deal for me straight away. As it is I still think I have convinced myself to keep it. Very nice phone but reckon could have been a touch better. That said well done Nokia for bringing me home from my holiday to ericsson. Feels good to be back.

I have just looked on the Nokia site & love the look of this phone & it has a great spec too. I haven't bought one yet so can't comment in much detail but & I am a bit sceptical about this push button flip up thing! Sounds breakable & I'd probably prefer to just lift screen myself (as most other flip phones do). Anyhow, my main question is that I have enquired about getting this phone on an O2 contract & every retailer only has it in black/silver. The other colours advertised on the Nokia site seem non-existent - Any ideas where I can get one or have I just got to wait! Thanks

I like the fact that it comes with XHTML browser & Email as I am so wanting Internet access on my next phone. The MP3 player & FM radio will not be a new feature for me but they will be used all the time. I have not seen a Visual radio before so that is all very new & exciting.
