18 months in & this phone still works like new.
I had one issue but found that it was my fault all along.
I thought that the camera was rubbish but when investigating (after a year of cursing) I found out that the little rubber gasket inside the phone that separates the camera lens from the flash was missing. Once I had put it back in, the camera is as good as it should be. The flash was causing reflection on the inside of the lens giving a slight blurring to the pictures.
It isn't a massive resolution camera but as I email my pictures to the office from my phone I don't want massive file sizes anyway.
Top phone.
Big Dave is a happy camper.

Absolutely fantastic phone, it takes a while to learn how to use it & all the applications & setting on it. When you know how it's great.
I have had my phone now for nearly 18 month & due for an upgrade & I really can't decide what will beat this phone.
I find the touch screen quick & responsive, speakers are louder than a I phone & you can buy larger memory cards for it but mine came with a 8GB which is too much for me anyway.
The is a ovi store on the phone were you can download more applications & games which are similar if not the same as I phone apps, I have only recently found this so now I am glued to my phone again.
Only down fall is it's not the best phone to go on the Internet on but it's not bad, & the camera is excellent through the day or in the light but when is dark even with the flash or night camera setting its not great.
I'd still recommend it, if you love Nokia you will love this phone! X.

I've had the 5800 (otherwise known as the brick or useless stupid thing) since December 2009.
All was well at the start, well for about the first day that is until it came time to put it into a universal phone holder in the car. It has a shape that means the front is wider than the back of the phone which means that in my phone holder the damn phone is fired at you when you hit the slighted bump on the road. It also means that trying to use the self timer for the camera is virtually impossible as it doesn't stand up by itself.
Visibility of the screen in terrible in bright conditions even though I've added a high contrast theme.
Removing the stylus from the back of the phone make the back of the phone come open a bit & I am forever clipping it back in place.
Make sure you carry some sort of cloth with you too as the screen get more fingerprints than you can imagine.
Power level on the phone seems to suddenly drop too, on several occasions the charge has been reading full then the next time I've checked I've already lost 2 marks on the battery level without making a call or playing music.
Lack of an office suite & software I think is unforgivable for such a phone as standard.
Then a few months ago things got a bit worse. The light sensor for the screen came off the printed circuit board & started to rattle around inside the phone. Then the screen broke. The screen I was able to replace myself but on opening the phone I was shocked at how much dust & fluff was inside the phone. It seems to mostly get in via the 3 hard buttons on the front of the phone.
The firmware of the phone has also been updated but somehow it feels as if it was an afterthought.
As an example, when scrolling through music files on the phone there is now displayed a HUGE letter of the alphabet over the top & right in the middle of the screen, now like 99.9999999% of the people I know the alphabet & where my songs are located in a play list, I don't need some stupid or pointless letter telling me where I am in the playlist & obscuring the songs I have on my phone.
Also there seems to be 4 ways of answering a call when the phone is locked!
Sometimes I also find the accelerometer is very slow to respond, for example, when the phone has been on a flat level surface & I pick it up it takes a few seconds (sometimes as many as 5 seconds) to realise the phone is being held vertical, so if you are thinking of buying one get used to reading things sideways.
Menu can also be very laggy at times & if you are not careful you can sometimes find yourself leaving programs running in the background as where you would expect an exit or close button to be there is a hide button.
Camera quality is good, so now worries there.
With just a few tweaks the 5800 could have been an excellent phone but it seems Nokia can't help messing about with things so much that it has become a bit of a dogs dinner.

Worst phone ever. Camera broke. Screen scratches very easily. & all around feels like a phone for the cheap skate like me who did not want to pay a little more.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.

I was a long time Nokia hater, mostly going for Sony Ericsson, but my last phone was an LG Viewty, a lovely touch screen phone. When the time came to upgrade, I briefly looked at the iPhone but decided that £200 was too much compared to the £0 that my Nokia cost. After 8 months I still think that this is the best phone that I have ever owned. The touch screen is easy to use & brilliant for watching video, the music playback is OK for what I need, as is the camera. If I want anything better than I have an iPod & a digital SLR. It's comfortable to handle & it fits nicely in my pocket. I don't use a case, just one of Proportas excellent screen protectors.
Offline GPS works well, as does voice dialling, a vital feature for me as I use it in the car.
I read some of the previous user reviews to see what other people thought of it & I was convinced that some of them were talking about a different phone. A brick, get real. Fat, you must be looking at a different phone to me.
To the person who said that anyone who gives this phone a good review has a vested interest I freely admit that I have a vested interest in telling everyone what a good phone this is, that's all. It may have its faults, although I can't think what they are, but it's still the best phone I've ever owned.

A great phone. Totally replaced my iPod. Superb music player. Good quality loud speakers. Fast Internet connections. Decent battery life. Takes good pictures in day light but terrible pictures at night time. However, I rarely take pictures, so no real problem. Although, you would have thought Nokia would have tested night shots.
In summary, if you love music & you want & iPod & a phone all in one, & aren't too bothered about pictures. This is the phone for you. I've had mine for a year now & want to keep it for another year. No upgrade on the horizon.

My first touch phone the 5800XM does so much more than any previous.
As a phone the 5800 is fine although there are sometimes too many key presses to get what you want, especially when you've finished using an application, the Exit function is often hidden, just pressing the red button doesn't always close the application.
I like the quality of the music player, I listen a lot to classical music & the background hiss is very low in quiet passages & the frequency response in flat mode is, well, flat, which is good.
The camera is not good, buy something else if you want more than snaps.
I particularly like the video playback, the screen is very clear & sharp in maximum resolution (640 x 360 pixels) & the 8GB memory card mine came with leaves lots of space for films (16GB is possible).
Nokia maps with free voice guided sat nav is very useful although I am not keen on the colours chosen.
The calendar application links nicely with Google calendar & they sync with each other using 'Mail for exchange Googlemail Contacts also sync with the phone but there are a couple of bugs. You lose your speed dial settings & contact groups whenever you sync with Googlemail contacts. Also there is a periodic bug where the calendar display, which should always show as a touchable shortcut on the Home (Front) Page, disappears & can only be got back by doing a factory reset. Well worth using the inbuilt backup facility!
Email works well, I use Googlemail, I like the option to only download headers initially which saves on data costs.
Wi-Fi works well for downloads although its sometimes a mystery where the files actually go!
There are an increasing number of downloadable apps available, many free.
All in all a good cheaper alternative to the iPhone.

This is the one, which started the touchscreen revolution on a global scale. Marked the success story of Nokia. 5800xm brought back this sinking ship on the bright & cool waters. Since then the touchscreen platform has become a resounding success giving way to the siblings like N97, X6 etc. 5800 has the best of features on a budget, undoubtedly being the No1 in its category.
Had I been in the mobile congress, would have voted 5800 as the phone of the year.

The N95 suffered from a less than brilliant sound system, as with other models. I had hoped this newer 'XM' model would be better. I plugged in the high quality earphones used on my superior Walkman, but just like the 95, it was just not High Fidelity. Equalizer hard to find on this phone, & it has little effect on the bass & high frequencies. Lacks presence in the 2 to 5kHz range, & as the volume is increased, instead of getting punchy power, it just gets echoes & is annoying. Jack of all trades phone, but in audio quality, I really do think Nokia need to Master their amplifiers. T.

I have had this phone for around 8 months now. As a whole the phone is excellent. No problems to report. I would like to highlight a couple of points that are. Annoying.
Whenever you open anything you have to close it by going back through all of the menus rather than one exit button because this leaves the application open. For example you receive a text message, open the message with one press of the screen. To close the message you have to press the screen three times.
Overall the phone is brilliant & as a music player A plus. The speakers are excellent quality.
Maybe I am just very impatient :).

Had this as a free contract phone, but sold on after 6 months. Great first effort from Nokia, & I loved the ability to have a large touch keypad for texting. When I got it right I could text at hyper speed. Downside was I kept having to tap so hard on some keys else the letter wouldn't appear. Space bar was the worst, & texts just came out nonsense. Worse of all was the white letters on a light grey background. OK when in my armchair, but out walking the dogs in sunlight. Couldn't see who was calling, couldn't text. Had to go, image quality good & easy to use like a real camera. Photo management & editing is quite good too. A bit of a brick like a lot of Nokia's first efforts, but a lot cheaper than an iPod so who's complaining. The low sensitive screen may be improved on more recent models like the X6 so head that way. I've gone back to buttons for now though till things improve. Cheers for now, Dave (:
Additional comments. Like old N-Series, the more pictures you store, the slower it takes to access the gallery. With only a small fraction of the available memory used up, I got up to 30 seconds from select to file open! Not good. Dave.

Had this phone barely 6 months & already had to send it for repair 3 times! Completely unreliable & wouldn't recommend to anyone. Designed to make you accidently send incomplete messages & therefore wasted hundreds of texts. Digital clock is slow & screen quality poor.

Every time I put music on the phone it decides it can't play the music.

But for the time I had the phone I thought it was great easy to use & the WLAN wifi technology is FAB! (: love it. & it's easy to text on can choose the way you want to text. I didn't tend to use the stylus I used my nails?! Anyway I would recommend the phone to anyone. Also my first touch screen & I am glad!

I got this phone yesterday, & so far so good I love it! At the mo, I can't fault anything on the phone, it's so easy to use & the sound is fab, with or without headphones.
I've been a dyed in the wool Sony Ericsson user for the past 4 to 5 yrs, I had a brief fling with the Samsung Soul, which was horrendous, with even worse battery life & I sold it & went back to my old Sony Ericsson phone which was over 3 yrs old but still worked better than the Soul!
I'd not use a Nokia for about 6 yrs & I have to say I am very impressed with the 5800. The outer casing does look slightly plasticy but to be honest for what you can do with the phone it's not too much of a problem really.
Graphics are good & screen is very clear. Possibly my only gripe is that you only get 2 themes on the phone, but you are able to download more.
Overall a good phone, not an iPhone but if you anything like an iPhone. Buy an iPhone!

Shocking phone, whatever you do buy the iPhone, I have been a loyal Nokia customer for several years, never again, it won't save any message or ringtone, takes an age to connect to the net unless a full charge is in it, my screen works as & when it feels like it, I have missed dozens of calls because it goes to answer phone, DO NOT BUY.

Hi Guys,
I always use this site before choosing a phone, so I thought it's only right that I write a review myself.
I've had this phone a day now & so far so good. I've had no freezing & the camera isn't as poor as people have mentioned.
Don't expect it to be as good as the iPhone, the Internet isn't as fast & switching between applications is a little slower. The GPS was spot on though & the guitar games is quite good.
Speakers are loud & there's loads of room for your music.
Also to the person who said that the caller ID isn't displayed, this can be changed in profiles.
All in all, for the money I am paying I can't really fault it, I'll write another review in a few months.

Got this phone a week ago. It's first time I have owned a touch screen phone. It's a nice looking phone but after giving a touch screen a try, I still prefer the old button phones so my next phone won't be a touch screen I am afraid. Anyway, this phone is packed with features. Camera takes good photos, sound is great & loud. The menus can be customised to suit the user. The screen is large.
Overall, it's a great phone for the price. I give it full marks apart from for usability which I give it 90% simply because it takes a lot of getting used to. I would recommend this phone to anybody who wants to buy a good touch screen & who want value for money.

Well guys I think my hunt for a phone best suited to me & my need ends with this mind blowing machine. It's an excellent phone & a value for money. It has a lot more than your expectations, needs & imagination.
Topmost feature I have been looking after is BLACKLIST that I got in this phone. Without it I can't survive because I use to get fed up of all silly calls made by operator. With this feature you can get rid of all the calls & messages you don't want to hear or read.
Secondly you get 8GB card free loaded with 130 songs & some useful software with this phone which must be really appreciated. Thanks Nokia.
The CAMERA is good enough in day light, but don't expect it to be good in the darkness, anyways I will give 8 out of 10 because it can't be compared with my Ericsson C510 3.2MP which I sold because it was not able to read lapu sim cards.
LOOKS are fabulous. It's a grace of style & elegance when you hold it in your hands but a little bulky.
SOUND is very loud & clear. Capsule Earphones provided also will rock your senses & you.
TOUCH is so nice that you can run the set with your fingers there's no need of stylus.
Messages can also be typed by the way you want there is a qwerty keyboard, mini qwerty keyboard, handwriting, alpha numeric keypad & the simple abc keybad. Type the message in the easiest way you want.
NOTIFICATION LIGHT is also provided that helps you in notifying the events like missed calls, messages & emails. So you are not going to miss them anymore.
TV-OUT is also a very useful feature you get in this phone, not coming in the new model of this phone.
One thing that I am missing in this phone is there is no details of the caller on the main screen when you receive any unread message or missed call. It's a big disadvantage in s60 phones. S40 are good in this feature.
SCREEN is so big that you have a very big room to play with Wallpapers on the home screen make me go more crazy for this phone.
You can SILENCE the PHONE when ringing by turning it down.
AUTO ROTATE feature rotates your screen & turns it in a widescreen mode. Watch videos listen music & read messages more easily on a wider screen.
You can set SHORTCUTS of any 4 contacts on the home screen that will save your time in calling or sending messages.

Got this phone yesterday afternoon from Carphone Warehouse, so it was unlocked & unbranded.
Very easy to setup, got it working on my home wireless Lan. Not too bad to text on, just takes getting used to.
Sunlight it's not too bad. Music playback is great!
Well worth getting if this is your first touch screen phone.

Great excitement at this one which was to replace an E51 (only returned 2 of them & 02 tell you they are doing you a favour even though the fault was within the first 12 months! ). So it's a touch screen job WOW! Not really simple & the book was not helpful at all. To be fair setting up the email was easy, not really easy. Shame for Nokia that from there on it was a disaster. Transferring old data not possible, two shops tried so it wasn't just silly old me.
6 plus hours & we got the hands-free going & thought we had mastered the (not so) little devil but then COMPLETE failure. It really is dead & back to O2 & Nokia. Good job they didn't return my call in 24 hours (not for the first time). So, what next? An E52, would have like to try again with a SIMPLE touch screen but now scared off. After years of generally trouble free & user friendly (ish) Nokia's I welcome suggestions for an alternative (not Blackberry or Apple) that is used 75% for phone calls includes hands-free 20% for email & 5% web. I don't like an out & out QWERTY but am fed up of responding to say an email in text form (perhaps a wireless separate keyboard as money is not the issue). Also the web viewing is not great on an E51 but E52 says it's larger.

Now I am normally a Sony Man but after my last phone, the Sony Ericsson W910, which kept on locking, freezing, & turning itself off I had lost my faith in buying another Sony.
Haven't had a Nokia for quite a while & decided to take the plunge. I have had the phone for 2 weeks now & in a nutshell, the phone is solid! No freezing or shuting down. The touch screen works well & the phone is clear & very loud. The Internet is very quick too. The camera is 3.2MP & good in daylight but don't expect too much in dim lit places or at night but please remember, this is a phone. You want to take perfect pictures? Then buy a Digital Camera!
I got this phone FREE on an £18 a month (18 months) contract & for the money I don't think you'll get better. Sure the N97 is a great phone but at £40 plus a month & there are lots of bugs with it. Same with the iPhone 3GS!
Great Value for money & most important a reliable phone! Well Happy! :-).

This phone is just brilliant!
I have always had Nokia's & this is the best I have ever had. The wife always sticks to Samsungs & I find them so complicated compared to the Nokia's.
The main thing I like mine for is the Navigation.
The stand alone GPS can be slow to get going so, as I have some Internet usage on my account, I use A GPS which locates in seconds.
I have also installed GARMIN mobile navigation & this has made this phone just out of this world.
It does absolutely EVERYTHING you could want to do & more.
Well done Nokia.

This phone is great to use, but I am on my fourth one now, due to the fact that the phone only last about eight hours from a full charge. When I first got the phone it was fine, the after a week it would not hold its charge. Carphone Warehouse swapped it & low & behold the second, third & now the fourth have gone the same way. I am sure Nokia must be aware of this fault, but just don't want to admit there is a problem.
An average phone with well below average battery life.

IT IS A VERY NICE PHONE TO HAVE BUT THERE ARE A FEW FAULTS.
- YOU HAVE GOT TO USE A 3G SIM OR YOUR PHONE GOES TO POT. EVEN THOUGH the PHONE SHOP YOU BUY IT FROM GIVES YOU A 2G SIM IN YOUR PHONE BOX.
- WHEN YOU MAKE A CALL OR SOMEONE RINGS YOU. YOU CAN'T SEE WHO IS RINGING YOU because the SCREEN TURNS ITSELF OFF, YOU CAN STILL TALK THOUGH.
- YOU CAN'T ALWAYS LOCK YOUR PHONE IT SOMETIMES TAKES UP TO 10 TIMES TO LOCK IT. OR YOU CAN'T UNLOCK IT.
- IT SOMETIMES SWITCHS FROM HORIZONTAL TO VERTICAL WITHOUT YOU DOING ANYTHING BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TURN IT OFF & TURN IT BACK ON.
IF I WOULD HAVE KNOW I WOULD HAVE ALL THIS TROUBLE I WOULD NOT HAVE GOT IT, IT'S NOT WORTH the BOTHER.

iPhone killer, DON'T TALK RUBBISH! This phone is not in the same league. The interface is far inferior & it looks awful in the flesh, plus it's awkward to use so glad I can return it. Yes it has some good features but it's just not enough. Maybe alright if the iPhone wasn't released but it has, so I'm off to 02 to try & get one & with the new 3G S, Nokia really has to try a lot harder! C- could do better (a lot better).

This phones audio is great & plug in a set of sennheiser in ear headphones & it really rocks handling bass with N-Series 2 episodes looking really clear.
Video from my PC is not quite as sharp but still not bad, although it was a bit of a pain using the supplied Nokia software & this took forever to install on my PC.
Also when I connect the phone to my PC it automatically starts the Nokia software which then leaves all audio tracks duplicated on the phones memory card, this is a real pain, but I think that it is a PC Nokia software issue or something that I need to alter within the program rather than a fault with the phone itself. The software does not seem as easy to navigate & get to grips with as previous Nokia software.
Viewing the keypad on the screen in bright light is also a bit of a problem, but I guess that would be just the same with an iPhone or other similar phones.
I like this phone, mostly because it makes having music & video on a phone more worthwhile & something I think I will make use of due to having a decent sized screen & good audio.
Fingers cCrossed that it is reliable too.

I have just got my Nokia 5800 back from a Nokia Repair Centre with the same fault BOTH times. The problem is with the earpiece, the volume goes up & down without any reason. Most times I couldn't hear the caller, or else the sound was a low whisper.
As it was still under guarantee I sent it back to a proper Nokia Repair Centre, but it seemed that all they did was press the Restore Factory Settings button because the fault was still there.
I Googled the Internet quoting Nokia 5800 sound problem & found that a LOT of users were suffering with the same problem. Luckily, YouTube had videos showing how to correct the fault, (it appears to be a faulty component), & I was able to fix the problem myself.
I have lowered my score because.
- It isn't a lot of use if you can't hear the caller.
- Nokia must be aware of the fault, yet their repair center's don't know how to fix it.

The phone's monitor fails to display a thing in cold weather. All I have is patches of colour & fine colour strips. Also making the phone useless. It usually requires number of attempts to bring the screen back on. E.g. Pressing onto the on & off button while it is on locked.
The phone supposed to auto lock & have its screen will turn off when it is unused for a min, sometimes, the screen will be left on for hours. Even when I manually lock the phone. The screen will stay on. Wasting a lot of battery! : (.

I have always been an avid Nokia customer but I was looking at getting an iPhone. However after trying the iPhone at the store & hearing about some of its flaws I decided to go with the brand I know & trust, & I have never looked back. This phone is brilliant. I absolutely love it & it has everything I need. I have had the phone for 3 months & I have never had a problem with it. It works great as a phone, has a 3.2 mega pixel camera (which takes reasonable pictures in the day), it has the Internet, maps, GPS & it is also a MP3 player which goes well with the 8GB memory. I have found the battery to last 7 days. When text messaging you get 4 ways to input your message. The handwriting option is OK but a bit slow. The alphanumeric is still the best in my opinion.
There are however some minor niggles
I find that when browsing the Internet browsing the pages can load very slowly whether I am using the WAP or Wi-Fi. The operating system of the phone can be slow at times but I have recently updated the phone software & it is now much improved.
There are not a lot if applications available like there are with the iPhone & having owned an iPod I am use to the simplicity of iTunes for uploading songs but the Nokia music program does the job.
The GPS struggles to find a signal (always when you need it to) & it works best in open areas & when you are not moving a speed. But once it gets a signal it is brilliant so long as you tell it the correct information & in detail.
The time on the phone seems to slow down & I do have to correct it from time to time.
The only other thing is the case supplied with the phone was a bit bulky so I purchased a latex version with a screen protector.
So overall it is a really good phone & I would highly recommend purchasing one.

Well, waited a while to get my hands on the 5800, first impressions were quite good. Though my first impressions didn't stay long. When I first got it I was disappointed by the quality & feel of the phone, it almost looks like a kid's toy. But that I could forgive if it lived up to the hype. Alas it didn't. As a phone it good, but then aren't most phones these days. As an MP3 player its average. But then it's a phone so forgivable. Web browsing is OK. But then it's not a high end phone. We've heard a lot about the 5800 but I do wonder how many of the reviews are written by someone with a vested interest. Because there's no way it deserves 5 stars. So I will list my gripes. Its fiddly to use, not a very good shape, doesn't feel comfortable in the hand due to its design, easy to drop. So if you have big hands like me, get to grips with it first. I got mine mail order on an upgrade. The camera is very poor. Have used better 2MP phones for that. Screen savers appear to confuse the proximity sensor causing the screen to go black a lot. Toy like looks & feel. Nokia maps are useful but a long way to go if they are going to take on tomtom or Garmin.
Overall, a good phone but nothing special. I hope this serves to give a few people a more balanced view of the 5800. Have to say I will be giving mine to the wife. Going back to my trusty N95.

Awesome device! I was a strong follower of Sony Ericsson before I got my hands on Nokia 5800.
Good.
- Very easy to use. Touch screen is out of this world!
- Good music player.
- Large screen (I covert Divx movies to MP4 & watch them on my Nokia 5800).
Bad.
- Very poor still camera (video recording is OK)
- Seems to have trouble in establishing Wi-Fi connection.
Please note that it seems both the above issues have being resolved by patch updates.
Final verdict, BUY IT.

I have had this phone about a month now, & I love it. Having been a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone user for years I decided on the 5800 this time. It's easy to use, has some cracking features & the speakers are way better than the Sony Ericsson. The screen is bright, & not over sensitive, so it doesn't do things that you don't want it to do! I can't compare it to the iPhone as I have never used one, but it is a bit heavier & chunkier. The camera is fine in daylight, but not so good on a night, but I didn't buy it for the camera!
Altogether, I think this is a belting phone, & I won't be parting with it for a long time!

People that rely on any phone keeping all their contacts safe without a back up is just dumb, LOL I have had this phone for about 4 to 5 weeks now & it's a very good phone for the price just £199. Now the iPhone is the iPhone & the 5800 is the 5800 no comparison. The iPhone is rubbish (in my honest opinion) as a phone, however the iPod touch is a awesome media device. Nokia make phones & good ones at that. The Symbian 60 ver5 OS is great to work with, loads of apps & the BBC iPlayer is handy. TV out, to show everyone what's on your phone. WiFi & a 8MB memory card (can take 16MB) is plenty for most people.
All in all I am very happy with this phone at the price I paid. New phones such as the 12meg Cybershot & Walkman from Sony Due July 2009 & the Samsung Omnia HD raise the bar to a whole new level.

About Mr Izy from Preston, UK, that lost his contacts when battery drained.
There is simply NO excuse of not having a backup of your contacts on a computer & a CD, DVD, or USB hard drive. What if it got stolen? I mean come on. So OK, your case was one in? Every company has issues when issuing new phone models.
But I have this phone for 2 months & all is OK. Great experience with this phone. Watching movies & series is a hit. Music is easy to handle, all you need is to copy a bunch of songs directly from computer via Bluetooth or USB cable (recommended as BT is slow when copying many MP3 songs). No extra software (iTunes) needed!
Battery could do better but turning off unwanted stuff (3G when not needed, & also Wi-Fi & Bluetooth) makes it a tod better & also screen brightness when working in low light conditions makes a difference.
Also the camera is rubbish. A shame, as video capturing in that aspect ratio is a smash!
Other than that GPS is handy, if you don't care about positioning & only use the maps! (needs a subscription for the positioning to work Nokia maps).
Overall this is a nice phone to have, especially for its ease of use & price comparing to other phones.

The 5800 XpressMusic is a true great & a breath of fresh air from Nokia. It has so many features crammed in that it's amazing how they did it.
The high resolution screen is truly great & you will never want to go back to any of the older style Nokia's like the new N86.
It's fast, responsive & overall fun to use. Its 3.2MP camera is good outdoors, much better than ancient models like the 6233 & on par with newer models like the N78. Low light shots can be a bit noisy but can be improved by altering the settings.
The audio quality is excellent, better than any of the current N-Series Nokia's. The loudspeakers are very good too & really blast the music out.
It also excels as a media player being capable of playing high quality widescreen videos at 640x360 30fps. It's like having a mini HDTV! It also has the ability to record videos in widescreen making it perfect for uploading clips to YouTube.
The web browser is very good & most pages display perfectly on it but it can be a little slow. Apparently the browser has been speeded up in the latest firmware release.
The low price & box contents also make it a must have. I sold my N-Series then they should think again, especially as the N97 won't be out until June.

This is not a good phone for real because me & 5 of my friends have it & the screen is broken, it's not a good screen & no loud sound like my old phone 6233. The camera is very bad, actually it's awful. The best phone from Nokia is only 6233, it is the best phone. Thank you & have a nice day.

My friend just got this phone, & I have to say. It doesn't come close to my baby (LG KC910 Renoir). It feels a lot bigger. The sound on it is great.
It should have come with an 8MP camera, then I reckon it would be competing with the samsung Pixon, LG Renoir, & Sony Ericsson.
I am just wondering why Nokia have taken so long to release a touch screen phone. They seem to be all the rage now.
Overall I think its a great phone, but not as great as my LG renoir :D.

Just thought I'd let everyone who owns this great phone that Nokia have updated the Firmware to v.11.0.009.
This update isn't available OTA, so you will have to use the Nokia Updater that came with the Nokia Suite, (You DID install it on your PC, didn't you )?

I purchased this phone from Nokia retail shop. Got ripped off seriously found I could purchase the phone from Nokia's online shop for nearly £80 cheaper, Camera lens was chipped & the picture quality for a 3.2 Meg is appalling. I was also ripped off buying a 16GB card too was given a Sandisk one & charged for the retail price of Nokia's, £45 for Sandisk £77 for Nokia's own branded, almost double! Not what you'd expect from a Main Nokia store. The phone itself is fantastic barring the awful camera, I've had £30 web cams produce better.

I have just purchased this phone for £209 from the carphone warehouse. If you are on O2 pay as you go then you can upgrade without paying the top up fee & it will only cost £209 if not then you will have to pay £10 on a debit card or £20 cash. It is also available on t mobile pay as you go. The good thing about the CPW is all phones are unlocked. I will review the phone when I have used it longer but my first impression is very good.

At last I've got my hands on this sleek & groovy gadget. First of all, I'd like to say that finally Nokia is selling something on full package out of the box. You barely need to buy a good screen protector (approx USA $5).
When I open the box, I found these items beside the phone & battery.
- 8GB memory card loaded with videos, music & demo games.
- Hands free kit with remote control that enables you to stop, play, pause, skip tracks, answer & reject calls. On top of it, the remote unit also have a lock button to prevent unwanted operation.
- Strap with plectrum as an alternate input method beside the stylus & hand touch & gestures.
The operation of 5800 XM is pleasant & intuitive. This is a capable gadget at discounted price! The only downside is that you need to be patiently wait for compatible applications & games since this gadget employs a new breed of operating system, the Symbian S60 5th edition.
Overall, I am really happy with my purchase! If you're looking for an alternative gadget to replace your PDA, iPhone, Sony Ericsson Xperia, the 5800 XM is highly recommended.

The Nokia 5800 is Simply the Best Mobile from Nokia but one thing I don't like is the poor camera quality & short video clips.

Hi guys, I have this phone since 2 week ago. Basically this phone is multimedia player, loudspeaker is so clear tough you set in maximal volume, & more nice if you use earphone (like sennheiser). The display is very large with touch screen mode, it's very interesting when you play video or browsing Internet. High recommend for you to buy this nice phone.

Hi to all. Got to use the Nokia touch screen phone yesterday. Well mixed feelings.
The GOOD.
Nice size of the phone which is easy to hold & fits well in the hand. The blue line around the side looks cool. UI is as expected very good. (I feel Nokia does this the best). Battery Life as well as call quality is very good. Stylus is there. But one tends not to use it so much.
The OK.
Nothing exceptional. Just another Nokia mobile which has a touch screen! The camera is. Uugghhh especially given the thickness of the phone one would have expected a 5MP at least. Other things are present in most phones these days. So why should I spend nearly 20, 000 Indian Rs, for it?
Conclusion.
If you do like touch screen mobiles, think that Nokia is the easiest to use & have some spare cash. Do buy it. But if you want something with a WOW factor, Apple iPhone is the answer.

I have been using this phone over a month now. Honestly, this is an excellent phone. Touch response good, audio quality good, accelerometer good. The only drawback is the camera which performs poorly indoors.

I have been waiting for this phone for a long time, today I actually got my phone in my hands & all I have to say is that Nokia pulled it off very nicely, it's a complete IPHONE killer it's got better features GPS, battery life is good, video recording & the speakers which are totally awesome, they have a crystal clear sound output & they are loud.
All in all a very good package for a very reasonable price.

Having used this phone for nearly 2 weeks I think I can leave a little review on how I found the phone.
Firstly I got mine from Hong Kong & it all arrived with English instructions which is a good start
The phone itself is really nice to hold in the hand & I have the red version which in my opinion is the better out of the blue. Have not seen the black one.
Very easy to use, touch screen is way better than an htc touch diamond which I have owned, but not quite, but not far off the iphone which I have also owned.
Reviewers put this phone in the mid range category & I cannot see why. It is fully feature packed & really the only thing which lets it down is the extremely poor 3.2 megapixel camera. Only any good for photos in bright light, otherwise it's pointless. However I am not a big camera phone user so it doesn't bother me that much.
The sound quality & volume levels on this phone are amazing. On the loudest setting for ringtones it is like having a hi fi in your pocket. The speakers are very good indeed & very well placed on the phone. I have never missed a call yet & the same can be said about message tones
The GPS works very well & the Nokia maps is a joy to use with the touch screen.
The phone, as you know is new to the market & due for release in a few weeks in the UK. The phone I have & many others that I have been reading about are a little buggy.
- Screen changes colour sometimes.
- Call volume sometimes fluctuates.
- Accelerometer is overly sensitive.
- There are few more little bugs if you read about it on symbian forums or Nokia discussions.
All in all I am over the moon with my phone & can see me keeping it for a while. Will probably improve overtime with firmware upgrades so something to look forward to.

This phone is looking great but camera is not 5 MP. Let see sound quality of this phone. I am just waiting for this, because I have to choose one phone between Sony Ericsson W595 & Nokia N85. Regards, Ranjeet.
