I think that a light should have been included on the phone just in case you want to take a picture at night. Also the camera is a bit slow, I also love the design.

I think a lot of people forgot about choosing a phone that is suitable for their needs & that's why some people are giving this phone such bad reviews. However, since I got this phone for what it is most advertised for, the music, I can say without a doubt that I am pleased with its performance. If one needs a phone that allows for quality sound, then this is the phone to have, if you want louder music that will eventually burst your speakers, then I suggest a sound system.

I bought this phone from Carphone Warehouse in December 2007 & I must confess that it was a fantastic buy. Though the speaker sound was initially low but after some software upgrade, the volume has increased. I love the slimness of the phone, the headphone jack from which I have been doing some Dj ing by connecting it to a sound system. Overall it is an amazing phone.

It's one of the best phones I have purchased mainly due to the fact that music sounds awesome. However the main let down is the speaker's aren't loud enough. So many times I have missed calls when I am in town & with the traffic humming on the busy roads always gets the best of the ringing tones even though the ringing volume is on level 5. Wished Nokia replaced it with a another one but this time replace the speakers with a Nokia 6300 speaker.

I bought this phone around a week ago. I am very impressed with it. I haven't had any crashing or restarting problems.
I love the design, it's a beautifully compact & thin phone, which looks stylish, its ideal for women I think, since it is quite a delicate phone, very small, & women maybe tend to not be as rough & the keypad is fine for my small fingers. I have also bought a protective fluffy cover for my phone for when it's in my bag or whatever, to avoid any accidental cracks of the screen since all my prior phones have been phones that haven't had exposed screens, & I'd read a few people commenting on screen damage. I have found this to be ideal for protecting my screen & very cheap.
I have found the volume for when I am on a call fine, I can hear perfectly. The only thing I'd prefer is for the sound to be able to go louder when I am listening to music directly through my phone without headphones, but of course listening to music through headphones delivers good sound.
I have found the radio & music player great, I have loved all the features, the screen has beautiful colour & quality, everything you need, this phone has, all my friends are very envious & love it, best phone I have had.
Of course, it's probably essential to invest in a good pair of headphones, & disregard the ones that come free. I plan to, but yes, great phone, I have had no problems, I highly recommend it.

Great phone with all the functions of modern mobiles. The only fault is the build quality. Usually Nokia's withstand a fair amount of drops without anything happening. Dropped the 5310 & the screen cracked after falling 30cm onto a wooden floor. Very disappointing. If you buy this phone make sure you insure it! Suggest getting a silicone cover to protect it.

I LOVE THIS PHONE IT IS the BEST PHONE I have HAD. I bought it from O2 with free HUNDRED POUND WORTH JBL CLUCTH SPEAKERS WHICH ARE GREAT!
My phone has never crashed or nothing there are no faults with it, it's slim & sleek design a love it!
If your screen cracks then you need to learn how to look after a phone you!

My lovely fella got me this phone at the back end of January as I fell in love with it right away, the looks are great, it's so smart & slim. BUT & here's the big BUT. I am on my third now & still not happy, all the same fault too, the person on the other end of the phone can't hear me & if they can I sound like a Darlek! NOT GOOD MY FRIENDS! I really don't want to part with this phone as it looks fantastic & the music side of things is cool but at the end of the day when you by a phone whatever extras you want on it I.e. MUSIC etc you still want a phone that people can hear you on, I am now using my fella's other phone, sad times : (.
Only good for music & texting!

I bought my phone while I was in Lebanon. Well it does not have Symbian but it is very good & has a very nice interface & colours. Its features are very well. It is right that it is completely different from my previous phone N73 ME. But I like it. Only its camera is very poor, & I was shocked when I discovered that my sales package does not include the 2 gigabyte memory.

Hey I just got this phone & it's great. I have dropped it a couple of times & it still hasn't broke. It's really handy as the MP3 player is on the side. I think the camera is really good & when I send stuff or get it off other peoples phone it is really quick which is surprising though cause it usually takes like an hour. I have it in black & red. I would have preferred it in blue though. I don't use my earphones I just plug in & ones I have around the house & they work as my last phone I lost the earphones so I was screwed. My only disappointment was that my speakers don't play very loud other then that I love it. My phone rocks the memory is great to (I have a memory card). I was originally going to get the Samsung F210 because it s a really nice phone but this one is just the same in my eyes. It has everything I need in a phone & trust me I need a lot! If you are thinking of getting this phone you really should the MP3 is great!

I first bought this phone after Christmas purely based on looks, memory capacity & the 2MP camera.
Many letdowns, camera is very poor, no brightness or contrast etc, only works well in decent lighting otherwise the colours are very light. It does not have a night mode or flash which also limit use.
When moving files it can get very annoying as it automatically goes back to the main files menu & you have to navigate very awkwardly through each folder.
It is a very quiet phone I rarely hear it going off, despite this it does have good quality sound through the headphones, however my headphones broke within 2 to 3 weeks of purchase.
The other day I noticed a crack in the screen but presumed I must have done that & not realised but after reading these reviews I guess that is a fault.
This phone was overall a disappointment but I personally have had no problems with it crashing or restarting or anything like that.
I was going to buy the Sony Ericsson W580i as a replacement but after reading the reviews on that on here I am again very unsure.

My silent option worked with holding down the hash key. I loved my phone but the only problem was that it wasn't very robust. My daughter dropped it at home & the screen is now broken. Most phones I have had in the past would endure a couple of drops, especially in the house.

Hey Jenni UK, I suggest you get 6300i (coming soon) or the current 6301 for your requirements. I am quite sure that you will be in a great mess if you buy 5310. This phone is pathetic. 6300 is the best phone in features Bluetooth A2DP can connect a Bluetooth head stereo headset. That's why I am advising you to get the 6300i or 6301 which has much more than 6300. One more thing the battery life is not good as the other phones. It will give a backup of one day. Thanks.

Even though I read a load of reviews (most bad, but some good) I thought I would get it anyway & give it a go. So far so good, except for one things that's really bugging me! In the past on previous phones I used to hold down the hash key & it put the phone in silent mode.
I've tried doing the same on this phone, but it's not doing anything. Is there anyone who can tell me if I am doing it wrong or is there a fault with the phone?

Right, I don't have this phone yet, but my uncle does. He is very impressed with it & I have toured myself round this phone. Even though it is light & slim its strong & will withhold drops, if your screen cracks, you are really treating your phone badly. The camera isn't too bad for a 2MP & the music is great. Bought this phone a month ago, & screen has already cracked. Did not drop the phone, it just cracked inside whilst it was in my pocket. Phoned up Orange & went into the Carphone Warehouse, neither of them could help, Carphone Warehouse said I must of done something to it. Very angry at that.
Phoning up Nokia tonight, hope they can help, otherwise I will have to pay the £45 repair fee to the Carphone Warehouse to get it fixed.

I just bought this phone 2 week ago. My comments about it are.
- Good music capabilities. Can say that same as other MP3 players.
- Picture viewing is good.
- Phone is damn slow.
- Camera is very slow & not good.
- Others are average features. No special feature.
I guess 6300 is good in comparison with 5310. As it is 1500 bucks less in price then 5310.

I've been waiting to upgrade my phone recently & my obvious choice was the sleek Nokia 5310 as I have always been a true believer in Nokia, never having any problems previously, my previous being 6300 & all the other obvious Nokia's. Great a new neat little phone, worked great at first, proud owner until 3 or 4 weeks later the phone kept crashing, I have to keep holding power button down till it turns phone off then back on again, repeat time & time again until eventually it works fine for a couple of hours, As my phone is still under warranty I am waiting for my retailer to send me a replacement. Hope I have better look with the next one. (or I have my eye on the Sony Ericsson w910i) can anyone tell me more on this phone, cheers!

OK I don't have this phone I have a 5300 but was looking for buying one of these as a present for my girlfriend.
Thanks for all these reviews it helps.
Going through the list what I have observed is that folks who bought their phone later I.e. In March seemingly are quite happy with it those that bought it early are not.
I suppose the older ones could try doing a firmware update & see if it works out for them in case you cannot change the phone.
However, there are lot of people complaining about the voice quality in general so I guess I will just wait & watch as I am not in a hurry if Nokia is to fix this problem I may just about pick it up.

I have had this phone since December & I only bought it because it is meant to be really good for playing music (which it is) but it constantly restarts when my music is playing & then it has to go & find all my music again which takes ages.
After going to repair they promised that the software had been fixed but to my surprise, not, it froze & restarted itself after just 24 hours of having it back.
So it is a good phone but has a short temperament!

I bought this phone one month back & I have started regretting for my decision to buy this phone. This phone is really bad. Apart from slow & bad camera quality, the biggest drawback is that it gets restarted every two hours without any reason & while talking also it gives you the same problem. No doubt music is very good & I would give some point to that. But the basic motive to talk effectively is not fulfilled then I don't think it is a phone worth buying. So guys please don't go for this or you will also regret later on.

Hi everyone, guys I have been a N-Series 40 software used in this phone. I have found that this is the worst phone ever manufactured by Nokia. Making it the slimmest of the phones made a blunder mistake. The software used in this phone is the best software used in the Nokia phone till date very user friendly though it has some missing features like the call timer is not present. Being a technical guy I have faced several problems in my phone & will like to share it with you people.
- When the picture is clicked & the storage path is in the memory card then the error occurs Operation failed.
- Phone freezes when two or three messages or calls come in the silent mode with the vibrator on. This may occur in any other profile too with the vibrator on.
- Memory card gets lost & cannot be accessed without several attempts of restarting the phone.
- Adding, deleting, files, folders or any modification in the memory card the error occurs 'Unable to save file'. Sometimes it works but most of the time the message is displayed. Note: Memory card is checked in the other phones & is working perfectly fine. Also in the card readers. Tried other memory cards in the phone but the same problem occurs. Therefore the write permission is not there in the memory card.
- While playing 5 or 6 songs continuously, the phone restarts.
- Phone restarts any time.
- Many time the memory card cannot be seen in the phone.
I need to restart the phone at least 30 times daily by taking out the battery in order to read the new messages, to access the log, to access the memory card etc. Upgraded the phone's firmware to 3.63 (previous version 3.60) but the problems are not solved.
I took the phone to the service centre but they are not able to solve the problem because I feel that the phones problem is the hardware used in it. I getting annoyed with this phone & I cannot resell it to anyone. I have faced these problems in 20 days. I bought the phone on Feb 22.
The camera is pathetic though the same camera is used in 6300 but the picture quality is very far from that. I have three 6300 phones in my family & I would recommend that phone to everyone. It has only one problem that the battery doesn't last long.
The speaker it too low that you cannot hear it in the same room. The sound on headphone is good & truly better that N73 Music which I used for 2 months & the phone is pathetic except the camera.
I would try to purchase the Nokia 6301 which has the same software & also WLAN feature in it. But it is not available in India yet. If anyone has any suggestion please tell it to me. I am in a real problem with this phone. I am going to send it to the Nokia service centre in Delhi let's see what happens. I know they won't be able to solve it because it is a manufacturing defect in all the 5310 as I have read the reviews no phone is perfect & working completely fine. I would request the company to give me some other phone a 6300 or 6301 I would pay the difference amount. I have used N73 M, 6300, 3230, 3310, 6630, 6030, 6500. If anyone wants reviews on these do tell it to me.

Got this phone in February had it 3 weeks & the speakers failed on it also the screen kept freezing. The speaker was so bad I couldn't hear people & they couldn't hear me. I had to take out the battery & reset it every time, so annoying. I got fed up & returned it the shop gave me another one & again the screen kept freezing. Brought it back & got a Sony Ericsson w580i. I brought back two phones in under 30 days, not good. I would advise against buying one. The battery after full charge lasts one day if you are making an average amount of calls. Really disappointed as it is a great MP3 but as a phone the batch I got my phone from isn't good.

This is a great phone & for me, the best in a long line of Nokia's. Small, thin & light.
I have an 8GB memory card which seems to confuse it occasionally. It's a dream come true to carry so much music around & listen to it so easily but the menus aren't designed for quick access to 100 plus albums. Speaker quality is amazing considering the size.
The red design is classy & less garish that it might appear. The blue one will be nice.
Call quality is better (as far as I can tell) with Voice Clarity active on the Settings, Call menu. Why isn't this enabled by default?
Excellent value & Highly recommended!

I bought this phone last December. It suffers the same problem as other consumer's complaint. Mine used to reboot after 4 or 5 songs. I have tried many tips & tricks & they did not work. One day I made complete conversion regarding music format, converting them in m4u & MP3 only. The results were not good 100% but now I can enjoy listening to my songs for about two hours & 30 minutes without crash or rebooting.
I am Nokia fan & I never tried any other brand but Nokia would better correct this problem, otherwise it will lose fans confidence. The model was design for music lover, it is unacceptable that users are complaining so much about the media player. Nokia 5300 which I had before was 50 times better than the 5310 when it comes to music & the quality of its ringtones.
Personally, I think Nokia should make sure about its software & the number of tests made through its phones before launching them on the market.

This is the worst phone I have ever had, & I have had a good few over the years. I would not recommend it to any of my friends. After only having this phone 3 weeks the following things went wrong with it. It automatic turns of after charging & also disconnects in middle of calls. The picture quality is very blurry. The reception it not very good no matter where you are. If you get a message or a phone call & don't answer it straight away the key pad locks up. Only way you can get them unlocked is to remove the battery. Then you have to reset it all. I took the phone back to where I bought it (Carphone Warehouse) & it was replaced like for like after lots of determination on my part. Now after having the replacement phone for only 11 days the keys have locked up. I will be returning the phone tomorrow after speaking to their head office for some help. I will not be buying a Nokia again I will go back to Sony Ericsson's.

I bought this phone in November & within 5 days I had to take it back to carphone warehouse where I got it because it kept freezing & turning off by itself so they gave me a new one which was nice of them at the time then 3 wks later the same thing happened again so they sent it off to get repaired which took 2 wk to get back to me again, & I didn't have it back 3 days until you GUESSED IT the exact same thing happened so that's when I really got hacked off & went back to carphone warehouse & had a big argument with the manager. The manager told me that it wasn't his problem so told me to talk to customer services & they told me that it wasn't there problem either it was up to the shop to sort it out so again I went back to the shop & demanded that it be sorted while I was in the shop. It took me approx 2 hours in the shop until the manager admitted that there is a problem with the 5310's & he has stopped selling them because there is so many complaints with them. I eventually got a new make & model & it's great.

Great style phone. It really looks the biz. Thank goodness it has a good vibration because the sound quality is not that good, distorted & poor volume (maybe I just have a bad one). The small screen gives small icons. With below average eyesight this is a disadvantage. I have always had Vodafone network which has had excellent reception BUT this phone seems to have a poor signal. For music playback it's okayish, but as a phone the boys at Nokia need to work on it a bit.

Beautiful design with a couple of flaws, USB connector is hard to fit & battery cover is difficult to release & fit.
Features are almost the best.
Usability is rock bottom. Loads of problems with software & Nokia with Swedish operator cannot seem to produce stable firmware.
Could have been a real hit, now it's going back to the shop.

OK, I got my hands on this phone about three days ago. The first impressions it gave me, were, MANY firmware flaws, like the phone turns off while playing music, crackling sounds while playing games, writing text messages, but, Me like many other owners of this little jewel tried to perform a full restore on it (you can do it in the settings sub menu), after that my phone never has disappointed me, try this before you go for change it to another. All of you should also know that Nokia's next firmware release is about to fix those annoying firmware glitches. I have talked to several customer supporters at Nokia who has confirmed that next release of firmware (3.63) may fix all known bugs in firmware. Cheers.

I bought this stunning looking music phone a couple of days before Christmas & straight away the phone switches its self off when listening to music (about 6 songs in) & I thought fine a little problem I can sort out myself, but then it completely died 2 weeks ago (5 days out of the refund limit) so I have sent it to be repaired, but will put it straight on e bay & go back to Sony Ericsson. To sum up looks are not all they are cracked up to be! Come on Nokia you have the technology to make a half decent phone stop trying to cut corners.

I bought this phone as a replacement for my old Nokia because it was looking a bit dated & I really wish I hadn't.
When I first brought it home, I was over the moon. I loved the slim design, a simple easy lay out & was lovely to hold & use.
But I found, after only 2 days of having it, that every time I get a missed call the whole phone freezes. I can't unlock it or turn it off & have to take the battery out to restart it. I am taking it back tomorrow with the receipt & am getting a different phone as I have read below that Claire has had the same issue.
It's a shame because Nokia seem to be losing their reputation fast!

Firstly, people moaning about cameras, go & get a Sony k850i. What's the point in buying an MP3 phone if you want a camera. Secondly, if your phone is crashing, it suggests you either are too impatient or you have too much on the phone. Had mine for 4 months now & it hasn't crashed. Finally the battery is fine & it has loads of hours.
Any other complaints please post on review site & I will read. Overall a great phone!

I have had it 3 Weeks. I have had a few problems.
- It has jammed 3 times.
- Reset the clock by itself to the wrong time.
- I am a very low user & battery lasts 2 days maximum.
- I am on Vodafone & just swapped the SIM & hey presto I get poor service on the move & none at home. I have never had this before using Vodafone!
I Like.
- the size.
- the look.
- the menu layout.
I need reliability so it is going back!

After 4 days upon purchase, this hangs & dies! You need to turn it on again. I had it changed for another unit but still the same problem. Functions were suspended once you receive an incoming SMS or call or once the screen saver is displayed. You have to remove & return the battery to get it started again, & it's harder to turn ON after hanging & whenever it turns itself OFF. Maybe, this unit lacks further testing. With 2 units with the same problem, would you like to go for this one? Think again.

Phone looks great & it is slim & lightweight making it ideal for using when out running. Sound is very good & the built in 2 GB memory means you don't really have to go to the (usually very high) expense of upgrading to get a reasonable amount of songs on.
unfortunately had it 2 days!
All came from Carphone Warehouse which had it on for a very good price & I am worried they may have a bad batch & as such will probably not go for another one as they only give a short money refund period & don't refund the additional top up amount. Pity as on design & theoretical functionality it is way ahead of anything else in its price range at the moment.

To Katie, to turn vibrate off, Go to Settings, Tones, Vibrate then select off.
To Eddie, as above but use the navigation control to go to keypad tones instead of Vibrate
When I use the USB cable I get the message Problems installing hardware, I have uninstalled the PC suite & downloaded another copy from the Nokia website but the problem remains. Any ideas on how to resolve this please?

Bought this phone fairly recently after my old one inexplicably stopped working. Design's ideal, modern & stylish without being over the top, it's also a candy bar style phone as opposed to a flip, slide or swivel type, which I think is good as it has fewer physical weak points. I've not experienced any of the problems other people have reported, speaker sound is loud & clear, it's never crashed or hung up at me, memory is plentiful, all the apps work fine. The camera isn't the best available, but if I wanted ultra professional photographs I'd be using my digital camera instead.
Overall I think it's an excellent phone.

HAD the PHONE FOR ABOUT 4 to 5 DAYS NOW the PHONE HAS CRASHED TWICE, THAT DID NOT PLEASE ME BUT OTHER THAN THAT the PHONE IS EXCELLENT. The ONLY THING I WOULD PUT DOWN ON IT IS the LEVEL OF VOLUME IN the MUSIC PLAYER & FOR the RINGING I am MISSING CALLS. BUT AS I SAY the PHONE IS GREAT, SLIM, NICE DESIGN LOVE the WAY YOU CAN PLAY MUSIC & DO ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO DO ON the PHONE. The SCREEN IS QUITE BIG WHICH I ALSO LIKE BUT I HAVE BIG THUMBS WHICH SOMETIMES CAUSING A PROBLEM WITH TEXTING. A LIGHTWEIGHT PHONE WITH QUITE A LOT OF FEATURES. CAMERA QUALITY IS GOOD FOR BEING A 2.0 MEGAPIXEL. BATTERY LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD AS I HAVE BEEN PLAYING WITH IT FOR 4 DAYS & JUST ABOUT TO CHARGE IT UP FOR the FIST TIME WELL SECOND TIME INCLUDING the TIME WHEN I FIRST CHARGED IT WHEN PURCHASED. RECOMMENDED A GOOD BUY FOR ANY PERSON & ANY OCCASSION. I GIVE IT A SCORE OF 9 out of 10 ONLY BECAUSE OF the VOLUME LEVEL OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE 10 out of 10!

I am waiting of my new 5310 to arrive in the mail within the next 2 days, I have heard nothing but good things about the MP3 player. For all those people moaning about the camera, why buy a music express phone when you want a top of the range camera phone? & plus it comes at a reasonable price, at the end of the day its whether or not you like it not anyone else.
I am a big fan of music & music phones so I think I will enjoy listening to all of my songs on it & inserting my extra bass headphones into the headphone jack LOL.

Nokia 5310 is the best phone ever better than all Sony Ericsson phones its media player has really nice sound out put even though the loudspeaker is quite I would expect it because of the sound quality the 2 mega pixel camera is also very sharp & the battery life is decent for its size.

This is a very stylish phone imbuing modern style & practicality its features & outlets (3.5mm jack, battery) have been thoroughly thought out. Its usability is outstanding & the makers clearly had consumers in mind when making this phone ten out of ten Nokia for recognising consumer needs & not designing a phone with un needed costly features.

Bought one, 5 days later got a replacement. 7 days after receiving that one, exchanged for a different model altogether. Problems are phone crashes if you receive a missed call then they try again, crashes. Receive a text & don't read it straight away & you get another, crashes again. Seems other users have same problem. Camera also very poor. Steer well clear of this model.

When I first saw this phone I was very impressed with its slim, modern look however now that have owned it for a month I am noticing some flaws such as the battery life is not as good as my old Motorola L7 SLVR, it has stalled quite a few times while receiving calls & the PC suite software that is used on the computer is needing a major update, so much so that it does not work very well with my new windows vista enabled laptop. Great phone for texting though!

I just got mine yesterday & it's great, so far no crashes everything is perfect. I will try to use an 8 GB memory with it & hope it works, has anyone tried yet? Also, can someone tell me how to turn off the sound the keys make when you press them? It's really annoying when you are writing a message since the tone is slower than you typing & for example when you press the 7 four times to get an S the tone sound only plays 2 or 3 times if you do it fast (or just at a normal writing rate) & you think you only pressed it three times when you actually pressed it four times, so you press it again believing it's the fourth time when it actually is the fifth. I think it's annoying & I suppose other people have that problem. The question is how you turn the sound off. It's usually easy to find in the settings, but on this one I can't find it anywhere, & the book, the CD or the website don't help at all. Please someone help me.
- How do you turn the key sound off?
- Does an 8 GB memory work without any problems?
