I bought the phone recently & it has had to go back to the shop 3 times now for software problems I decided to go somewhere else to get it & it does the same thing, I then got it fixed & it worked fine for about 3 months, it would freeze all the time the phone would delete everything on it & the SIM card registration would fail. Although it had a lot of features & it is a very good looking phone but I would advise not to buy it.

I got the blue & black version & I can tell you it is one of the most beautiful phones that I have seen especially in blue. The music is really good the dedicated music keys are really useful & the memory I use in this is a SanDisk 8GB sdhc on the Nokia web it says that it can hold up to 4 gig but I was able to use a 8 GB without freezing or any problem with the phone. The camera is awful if you want a good camera get an N series or a different brand of phone because the camera is rubbish on this it takes about 10 seconds for the image to be processed from when you take the click. But it is brilliant for music & memory. The calling features are not too bad but not brilliant. Overall it is a great iPod & phone in one & I do recommend it to anyone who wants a good music phone.

This phone looks good. Very nice design. The red one looks similar to one of the Sony phone. The camera should have been at least 3MP. If you are buying it, don't damage it.

Both my daughters have, or rather had this phone. One has had it for a year & finds all features great. The other has had it only a few months & although she loved it there were problems. It reset itself often i.e. no date or time. I was fed up resetting it. Then the screen broke whilst in her front pocket. We replaced the screen but within a few days the second screen was broken. Nokia have suggested we take it to our nearest care centre (50 mile trip) which no doubt we will do. Seems to be a hit or miss phone. Brilliant when it works!

I bought this phone about a year ago & straight away things went wrong. It kept rebooting itself for no apparent reason. I had it flashed twice but nothing changed. I could put up with the freezing as it had such a good music player on it & it was a great sub for any MP3 player. The speakers weren't terrible.

I have never bought any other make of phone but this Nokia has gotten that bad that I have moved on to LG. The music player buttons have fallen off & I am using cellotape to keep them on. The screen has cracked, one of the speakers have gone & the buttons 789 don't work at all so sending a text is almost impossible. But the worst thing of all is that even though my text storage capacity is full, the phone refuses to let me delete.

I love this phone no matter how shoddy the software is & I would recommend it if all you were looking for was a good music player.

Good.
- Screen is 240 by 320 with 16.7 m colours, so very good for see images.
- Very slim.
- Good FM sound quality.
- Good java support (midp 2.1) & class 32 gprs.
- High quality headset (hs-45).
- Built quality is good (I drop my 5310 4 to 5 times but no problem).

Bad.
- Camera cannot capture crystal clear images.
- Cannot adjust brightness of screen.
- Loud speaker is very poor.
- Video shooting is very bad.

Average.
- Sound Quality of music player (the music player is very good compare to other Nokia phones but if you interested only listen music then don't buy it. Go with Sony, creative, apple or Philips MP3 player). The sound quality of 5310 is little bad compare to MP3 players. (Bass is deep but not full treble is also bad compare with Sony. But if you need MP3 player in only Nokia mobile then 5310 is great phone.
- Battery life.

Overall.
- It is best multimedia phone,
- Best Walkman phone of Nokia.
- Good for j2me developer & Internet users.

Bought this phone for the free music store downloads, when it works its good, but I have had nothing but agro with it. Constantly getting download error messages coming up.
Went to help centre & was taken all round the houses for six weeks, then had to re set computer, re install, & they ended up starting it from their end which they could have done all along.

It has now happened again & started on the merry go round again. I give up!

I am going to buy an iPod.

If you want to download music & rely it working, don't BUY THIS PHONE OR BE TEMPTED BY the Nokia FREE MUSIC. BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE.

I am a teenage girl. I am looking to buy a new phone in the next week. Initially I really liked the Sony Ericsson K660i, but its reviews on this site weren't very good. Then I remembered this phone, so I looked at its reviews. The design is nice but some people don't seem very satisfied. Both are stylish, reasonably priced phones with a decent amount of features, can anyone recommend a phone similar to these which is more reliable & without as many problems? It would be really appreciated! Thank you!

The phone is simply very good at first but once you use it you get to know the pros & cons of it.

Pros.
- Audio quality is impeccable & clear.
- Sleek Design & the Music Buttons on the side are cool.
- Superb display (works very very good in sunlight).
- Camera Quality is very good as compareable to ONLY 2 megapixels camera & NOT COMPARING WITH 3.2 OR 5 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA.
- Loudspeakers is very loud as the new firmware omits the earlier issue, so no need to worry about the volume being low.

Cons.
- Software provided in the phone is FULL of Bugs & Nokia provides the MOST cheap software in this phone. (updating causes the memory card to crash & always ask for password after that thereby making it NON USABLE).
- Camera could have been atleast 3.2 with autofocus.
- No STEREO WIDENING effect (don't go by other websites, its not given in the set as an music option.)
- Worst ever Nokia CUSTOMER CARE SERVICE.
- Battery life is poor (only 1 to 1.5 days).
- USB cover is flimsy & will break with time.

So overall it's working lies between OK & good. For an OVERALL phone PLEASE choose Sony Ericsson (W595, W705, C510, T700 overall, best available) & NOT Nokia.Try Sony & you'll never come back to Nokia again.TRUST ME. Nokia is not at all good for their customer care service.

Overall a good phone, very cool looking, good data storage, have about 30 albums on mine, a few problems, the metal parts on cover fall of regularly especially the one covering the music controls, had problems with keypad membrane (snapping) so unable to turn on or off, weak screen, had the reboot issues (software upgrade solved this I hope), parts are widely available on eBay, these prices are approx, keypad membrane £7 cover & chassis including screen & tools to repair £8, rubber cover to protect the metal detail £3 they are cheap to repair, have had mine for about 8 months had to spend around £30 since purchased on replacement parts.

After a year of using this phone, I have to say that I love it. The phone is compact, light & beautiful.

The music player is okay, but I only use it as a back-up when I forget to charge my iPod or want the radio. The fact that it uses a normal earphone jack is a excellent.

As for other features, there isn't too much to be impressed by. Shoddy camera, rubbish games & would have been nice if the alarm was more customizable. But for texting & making calls, it does those jobs very well!

So overall it serves my needs perfectly.

Now I just wish Nokia would bring out a few more slim line handsets that could live up to this one as I am overdue an upgrade.

Totally beautiful Phone to look at, nice features & the music application is very good too. Easy to master nice back up to SD card feature too. The screen is the best quality I have seen on any mobile phone & even with only 2 MP the camera is good quality. The video is a bit of a letdown though with jolty images with are often not smooth at all & with lack of inbuilt lighting don't bother with night scenes. On the up the 2 GB MicroSD memory card supplied with the phone holds up to 700 tracks with an average length of 4 minutes. OK now we get to the bad points & these are the Achilles heels with this model.

- Phone keeps freezing & turning off.
- the buttons for the music application on the side of the screen have fallen through after 3 months.
- the phone keeps resetting its self & going back to basic functions & themes.
- If you try to send a text whilst listening to the music player the phone shuts down.
- the battery fails after 4 months (there is a recall for this though).

Now Nokia have given me 9! Yes 9! Of these phones in the past year because they have all developed one or all of the above faults & no the software update does not fix the problem. I have kept all the wrappings on my phones until they pass my probation period so that the shop cannot say I have abused the phone. I even kept my last one in a jiffy bag for 3 months much to the humour of my friends.

So if Nokia can admit the faults & rectify them this will be a fantastic phone for the 100 GBP's. My advice is wait until Nokia fix the faults.

Great value for money! I get bored of phones very quickly but must say since I bought this phone 5 months ago, I have bought 3 others & have continuously gone back to this one! It's so easy to use & is a nice thin design so can fit in any pocket. It is very reliable I have not had any problems with it at all. I use connect it to my PC very easily & download music & themes without any problems.

I got bored of the black & red cover so went on eBay & bought a pink one so now it is like another brand new phone! All in all it is an excellent phone if you're looking for something sleek & easy to use as well as extremely reliable!

Good phone with Good options. Somewhat stylish & very compact & light. The usual Nokia ease of use. The only drawback is the limitations on the camera functions; no flash & edit, & camera is slow. The music player is great & easy to use. The battery life appears to be rather good. A full charge, with average use, will last around 48 hours.

This is the best value for money if you want a music phone. It's easy to use & it automatically can play your songs in a playlist even from a memory card. The camera is decent with a surprisingly good zoom.

It's nice & slim so you can't see it or feel it in your pocket, battery life is decent, good messaging system, its loud, it can convert most corrupted files that you download so it can read them which is very useful & never had a problem with it working.

A FEW BAD POINTS it can be a struggle getting it compatible with your computer & it's not that colourful it looks a bit dull from the front & there is no impressive lights on the keyboard.

BUT if you get the attachable mini speakers it is amazing loud & clear music not to mention it's got the old jack head like a pair of headphones so a lot of other headphones & speakers can be plugged into it.

IT'S A VERY GOOD PHONE =).

This phone is amazing! Had mine ages now & I love it! It's easy to use & does what you want without being too fiddly. There is however two faults! The first being it's not the loudest of phones I often miss calls due to not hearing it, a better speaker would finish this phone off, also after having mine for approx 18 months the red buttons on the side have now fallen off, however this phone has survived torrential rain in Glastonbury & V, also the clasps of my 3 children so to survive this long it's done really well to be fair!

Would definitely recommend this phone although now in need of a new one myself I am looking to upgrade to a newer music express phone, hopefully with louder music capabilities!

The Nokia 5310 Xpress Music. This phone is certainly worth getting, It has a really stylish design with the coloured bars on the side which contributes to the design deeply. The phone is light & comfortable to hold. The phone has a good camera, it also has a fantasic music player & it sounds so GOOD! The phone comes with a 2gig memory card allowing you to have loads of songs & pictures. The phone has a good range of ringing & messaging tones which you will be able to hear. The phone is slightly hard to work if you have never had a Nokia but once you get used to it your find it easy to use.

YOU WOULD NOT REGRET BUYING THIS PHONE. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A STYLISH & EASY PHONE WHICH DOES EVERYTHING, GET THIS ONE !

Can I just say that I think this is fantastic phone. The design is very modern, but it doesn't miss out on basic functions, like many Sony phones, the keys are a very good size which makes texting quick & easy. It fits into the pocket of my jeans, & is surprisingly sturdy, it hasn't been damaged slightly even with me being a regular at gigs & the phone is still fine.

& to contradict what others have said, I have had this phone for almost a year now, & it works just as well as the day I bought it. & it's not because I never use it. My phone is used on a very daily basis, & has survived no problem.

I think this is a brilliantly designed phone, & is great for people of my age (teens), a phone, MP3 & camera all in one which can be slipped in a pocket with ease. & the memory (up to 4GB) means I don't have to compromise, enough songs, photo memory, & it can hold a lot of texts. I currently have 1354 texts in my inbox, & still memory space for taking pictures.

However the Nokia company should have put the autofocus on the camera. 16 million colour screen is nice but why do you need it when you do rubbish photos. But the three button next to the screen, nice!

But the good points are good camera, the display is OK so simple, Bluetooth is nice, but I am going for Nokia 5700 I think it's better, please if there's anything wrong with 5700 please tell me.

All Nokia phones are Fabulous, they are user friendly & I have never had a different make of phone, I bought this new phone last November, when it was priced at £120. I loved it, & all I needed it for was texting, calls, & music was the main reason I bought it, & it was ace for that, a great size memory card that stores up to 400 songs. But now it has started to go loopy on me, the detailing on the back has even rubbed off, when I receive a text or it alerts me of a missed call, it crashes, you cannot turn it off & you cannot get it to work unless you take your battery out, & even when you do this & put it back in, it only turns on when it wants to, so if you want a phone which is very worthwhile then choose a different one. Apart from that it is great, & I will still stick with Nokia's.

I am very happy with this phone. The speakers are quite quiet but I listen through headphones anyway so it's OK.

I had a few problems when setting up a phone lock to get on to the menu, it wouldn't unlock after typing the correct code in. I tried it a few hundred times & finally worked. I took this feature off.

People are saying it doesn't have FM radio? Mine does. Listen to radio 1 all the time.

I dropped it down the toilet, therefore it went a bit weird & screen went dodgy, but now it's working fine.

Camera is OK, bit slow when taking the picture though.

Other than that I'm quite satisfied with my phone, love the slim design :).

I've been using Nokia for 7 years now & 5310 XM is my 4th model (1st 3210, 2nd 3350 & 3rd 3100). The user friendliness of Nokia is really a top notch compared to other phones that I have experienced including my back up phone Sony Ericsson S500i. Long story short, these are the pros & cons.

PROS.
- Nice slim design for candy bar form factor.
- Dedicated music buttons really helps.
- Decent sound quality for a mid range music phone.
- Operable without SIM card.
- Keypad is easy to use. Nokia is always about user-friendly!

CONS.
- MicroSD slot is inside the cover (under the SIM card holder) so you have to open the back cover to swap MicroSD.
- After switched on the phone, it will lag between 7 to 10 seconds to load the contacts.
- It has poor camera quality for 2MP class & it takes 7 to 10 seconds to save a photo after snap but bear in mind that 5310 XM is a music phone so the 2MP camera is just for snapshot purposes.

This phone works fine for me & I don't understand that some people complain about the crack display, the missed events & call, the time setting etc. My best bet is the factory's fault or firmware update.

All in all, I love this phone & if you are looking for a mid range music phone without counting the 2MP camera poor quality, maybe 5310 XM is the one for you.

I have had mine for about 3 months now. At first I thought it was great. Then I started missing calls, my phone did not even tell me when I had text messages or missed calls or voice mails. Being a mother this is not a good thing when one of your kids is trying to get in touch with you. Spoke with my carrier a few times, decided to change SIM card. Same problems (mind you I never had these problems before I got this phone). Finally, it started rebooting itself whenever it felt like it, changed my settings randomly (I could watch it doing this LOL). Odd, so they sent me a replacement, I now have another 5310 with the same connection problems. What a waste of my time & money. Don't get me wrong, the music player is really great but they should have put a bit more time into the phone also.

FULL OF DESIGN FLAWS (& JUST TO mention BEFORE YOU READ ANY FURTHER, I HAVE BOTH a TECHNICAL & DESIGN BACKGROUND).

THIS PHONE IS ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. Although I absolutely loved it for the first couple of months, thought it was packed full of features & was easy to use. Just wait & see how long yours lasts!

DO NOT BUY IT AT ALL. Throw it out or sell it before you start having problems with yours, give it to your kids as a toy but DO NOT rely ON IT AS A FUNCTIONING PHONE.

I had this phone for 3 months before it started acting up, I had the usual problems that most people are complaining about where the phone crashes & the only remedy is to remove the battery. This I thought was manageable & I thought I could easily live with the problems, until the Bluetooth failed & refused to turn on (LAW REQUIRES YOU TO USE hands-free WHILST DRIVING, & WITH THIS PHONE Bluetooth IS the ONLY SAFE OPTION TO USE).

The next problem I started to experience was after the battery died completely once & when I charged it (I had left it on charge for about an hour) I came back to a phone that had a battery that I could have fried an egg on. If this was not enough the phone's screen than started to act strange when I tried to turn it on, going from the Nokia start up screen to black to white to grey to black & so on. Now the phone does not even flash at me, I dropped the phone in for repair identifying what I considered as a major design flaw, but the Nokia repair centre sent it back claiming water damage.

FOR NEARLY TEN YEARS I HAVE USED & ADVISED NOTHING BUT Nokia, BUT THIS PHONE HAS TOO MANY SERIOUS DESIGN FLAWS TO IGNORE. The PHONE IS ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. It is a real shame that a phone that seems to be so user friendly & has so many nice features & not to mention how small & slim it is. But this is such a rubbish phone.

BUT JUST THERE I HAVE IDENTIFIED WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE ITS BIGGEST FAILURE IN Nokia MAKING SUCH A SMALL & SLIM PHONE THEY HAVE NEGLECTED the FACT THAT the MAJORITY OF PHONE USERS WILL KEEP THEIR PHONES IN THIER POCKET UNTIL A CALL COMES IN, BUT THIS PHONE IS TOO SLIM & IF IT IS HELD AT EACH CORNER WITH FOUR FINGERS & YOU PLACE YOUR THUMBS IN the MIDDLE OF the UNDERNEATH OF the PHONE YOU CAN FLEX the PHONE TO A POINT THAT YOU MIGHT THINK THAT IT WILL SNAP IN HALF. THIS FLAW MORE THAN LIKELY CONTRIBUTES TO a lot IF NOT ALL OF the PROBLEMS THAT PEOPLE ARE DISCRIBING ON THIS FORM.

IF THIS IS NOT ENOUGH, the EXCUSE OF Nokia REPAIR CENTERS CLAIMING WATER DAMAGE & VOIDING YOUR WARRENTY IS A JOKE WHICH POINTS BACK DIRECTLY TO the DESIGN & POSITIONING OF BOTH the USB PORT & the HEAD PHONE JACK (MOST PHONES WILL COVER THESE WITH A RUBBER FLAP).

ENTERTAIN THIS THOUGHT FOR A SECON, You are OUTSIDE IN A LIGHT MIST & YOU HAVE YOUR PHONE TO YOUR EAR (WHICH IS HOW MOST PEOPLE USE THIER PHONES FOR CALLS) & WHAT HAPPENS BUT A SINGLE DROP OF RAIN FALLS INTO the HEAD PHONE JACK. SURELY THIS CAN'T BE CONSIDERED TO BE the USERS FAULT BUT the DESIGNERS, PLACING THESE PORTS ON the TOP OF the PHONE WAS the MOST SILLY IDEA I'VE EVER SEEN ON A MOBILE PHONE, & IF THIS IS NOT ENOUGH GUESS WHERE the CONNECTION PORT IS ON the PHONE. YES, IT'S ON the REVERSE SIDE IN EXACTLY the SAME PLACE ON the PCB AS the HEAD PHONE JACK IS the RIBBON CABLE FOR the SCREEN CONNECTION (THUS CAUSING, IN MY OPINION ALL the FAULTS PEOPLE SEEM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT the SCREEN BEEN DODGY).

WHEN YOU LOOK AT the SD CARD HOLDER WITH the BATTERY COVER REMOVED ON MY PHONE YOU CAN SEE AN APPARENT BEND ON the PCB BOARD, WHICH WAS HIGHLIGHTED TO the REPAIR CENTER BEFORE REPAIR COMMENCED.

IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT Nokia HAS GONE FROM MAKING indestructible PHONES THAT CAN LAST A DECADE TO DISPOSABLE PHONES THAT THEY EXPECT the CONSUMER TO THROUGH AWAY WHEN THEY FAIL.

TODAY I DECIDED TO REPAIR A FAULTY SCREEN ON A Nokia 6310 WHICH I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO REVERT BACK TO SEEING AS I DO NOT HAVE A FUNCTIONING PHONE ANYMORE & I DECIDED TO EXAMINE WHAT the REPAIR CENTER CALLED WATER DAMAGE (WITH IN MY POSSESSION the PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE SHOWING ME the SO CALLED WATER DAMAGE, I CAN NOT SEE WHAT WAS CIRCLED ON the PHOTOGRAPH AS WATER DAMAGE)

TOMORROW I AM GOING TO OPEN A FRIENDS PHONE WHICH IS WORKING FINE & TAKE MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE OF BOTH PHONES IN the EXACT SAME POSITION AS the SO CALLED WATER DAMAGE & THAN CONTACT the CONSUMER RIGHTS ASSOCIATION & challenge the WAVER THAT Nokia & MANY OTHER PHONE COMPANIES PLACE AGAINST YOUR WARRENTY WITH WATER DAMAGE AS AN EXCUSE TO FORSE YOU TO PURCHASE A NEW PHONE, IF I DROPPED MY PHONE IN the TOILET AS MANY PEOPLE DO BY ACCIDENT I WOULD EXCEPT THIS AS AN OUTCOME OF MY OWN carelessness, BUT NOT THROUGH NORMAL USE OF A PHONE WITH SO MANY APPARENT DESIGN FLAWS.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE ITS A LIABILITY AGAINST YOUR WALLET & BATTLING THESE FLAWS TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK OR PHONE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER MODEL WILL ONLY COST YOU EVEN MORE IN TIME EXPLAINING THESE FAULTS TO EVERYBODY ENVOLVED BETWEEN PHONE SHOPS, REPAIR CENTERS & QUITE POSSIBLE YOUR NETWORK PROVIDER ALSO.

I have to agree with some of the people that say that the screen isn't that good & can break very easily. I took my phone out my pocket at a train station to check the time, put it back in, walk 200 metres or so & received a text, took it out & the screen was cracked! All I did was walk! & it's not like I had had it in my back pocket it was in my front pocket so I couldn't have sat on it or anything, & I never bumped into anything! So this must be a fault.

Apart from that very good phone, music player is just loud enough & the camera isn't too bad, although video isn't great. It looks brilliant & feels brilliant. It just obviously isn't very strong & can sometimes break easily.

This phone looks really good & from this point of view I love it. BUT! I have had it 3 days & am still waiting to be activated by my network provider which means I have not been able to do things like make calls & text, which you would expect to do from a phone, & I have had to charge it overnight since I got it! In other words it only has to be switched on & its charge is lasting 15 hours! Not much chance of listening to music then or taking photos, let alone making calls or texting. Don't know if I have a dodgy phone or battery but this cannot be right. I would love to keep it but think I will have to get rid, so disappointing.

I think this phone is fantastic. I love the way the music buttons & controls are on the side. It's so unreal. I love that. The whole music scene on this phone is great.

The storage with the 2GB memory card is great. I have just got a 4GB memory card which is better (would be better than better if I could use an 8GB memory card in it as I store a lot in my phone).

The way the number of text messages in inbox, sent, outbox is shown under the title is another great feature.

The screen is big & clear.

I can't see why or how a lot of people don't particularly like this phone or why they have problems with it.

I have dropped my phone a couple of times & it has not failed on me yet. It still has no scratches of marks & it's not protected.

There is 2 cases that can be used for this phone but as it has no marks or they not that notice able it would be a waste of money buying 1 & a waste of time getting 1.

My only problem is that when storing objects & things in the memory card, they all go together & I have to myself create separate folders for music, images, Themes, Video clips & recordings.

The reason why I give it 95% across the board with design, features, usability is because there are still qualities that would make it more suitable for me. Such as text that I have typed on a computer are unable to be seen on the screen & have to be cut down to no more than 30 words. With my Sony Ericsson mobile phones, this does not happen.

The battery lasts about 5 days if you do not use the Internet or MP3 player which I never do, I bought it purely for its size. I had issues earlier this year with it not allowing me to use the messaging, reading texts, sending them etc but if I switched it off then on again it was fine, I took it back to where I bought it & they sent it away to upgrade software, took only one week.

Sound quality is OK on music but due to location of buttons the MP3 start it to play in your pocket or bag.

Camera quality is as you would expect for 2MP. I was pleased. I am now thinking of a contract so will be giving it to my son to use.

Fantastic phone, I wouldn't be without it.

The MP3 is awesome, excellent with or without the headphones, the video capture is the worst thing about it, appauling. When you move the camera it replays the image back in jumps, not smooth but the photo side of it is extremely good quality for a 2MP camera, I was surprised!

I like the fact you can upload music, files, video to it without having to subscribe to all these rip off tones advertised in magazines & TV etc. I did experience the phone resetting its self I.e. Screen going white, then coming back up & also it wouldn't turn on. Screen flashed then turned off. Took it back to the Carphone Warehouse who sent it away for testing, the result, they upgraded the software & it's been trouble free ever since.

Tip, in one of the reviews above, the screen cracked the first time I dropped it. Uhh well then take care of it & don't drop it.

Don't buy any phones without reading reviews from this type of sites.

Then I upgraded the software by spending 150 INR. Nothing happened. Nokia people told like your ringing volume will become so loud. They bill me the amount & sound increases up to 5%.

& one thing is music is good while we use the head phone. That's the only thing. & the restarting problem will solve by updating to new software version. Best solution is replace this phone with any another.

I've always bought series 60 phones in the past so was a little unsure about this series 40 but I am so glad I decided to buy it. It is really easy to use, the screen is very high quality & the sound clarity is excellent. Only downside the lack of a flash for the camera & the limited support for Mac (you can still load music onto it in data mode).

I'm going to get this phone next week as a birthday prezzy. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can look out for about this phone? I've read a lot of reviews & most of them are very good but some say that the battery life is bad. I used to have the Nokia 5310 & I was very happy with that phone but my Auntie dropped it in water & now it doesn't work. I love Nokia phones & I love my music so I think this is a great buy, can anyone tell me what they think of it. Many thanks Lana.

Regardless of that I still love this phone because the sound is superb & I get to download tons of games & themes without going through the burden of installing each file. I love the design as well. Every time I put it in my pocket it seems like there's no phone inside my pocket at all.

This phone goes above & beyond what I expected. It contains all features one wants. The music player is superb (better with headphones than without) but still pretty decent on loudspeaker. The design & style of the phone is very swish but I would not recommend it to anyone with big hands because it's so thin that its more likely you'll drop it!

The only bad thing so far is that the buttons are quite close together & although this doesn't create a constant problem I find sometimes when I text that I accidently send the text without finishing it =S.

Still its great I don't regret my choice at all!

I got the phone in March & was excellent until I started using it. I discovered after a month the phone was fully secured & made a sound if you touched the bottom. Another time after using the phone I was playing basketball took it out of my pocket & one of the buttons had cracked but not fallen off. I have also dropped it about 2 times which gave the phone to very obvious scratches on both top & bottom of the phone. In the end last week I found that the 0 button had fallen off somehow this meant 02 sending it out to their factory for 2 weeks I mean thank god I've got my k810i back now.

The phone use to freeze a lot until I upgraded the software to 6.01. The phones sound quality is good but a bit slow you won't be able to hear it in the crowd. The pros are that the software is very user friendly. Smooth keypad, 3.5mm jack to connect your speakers directly, sound on the headphone is awesome & many more. Thanks.

Taken this phone back, it was a disappointment in a box!

The battery life is terrible, the network signal would fluctuate between full & completely nonexistent, even when sat side by side with my Nokia 6230 which had a rock solid full signal.

It would drop calls in strong signal areas or refuse to connect calls. The video camera is a no no, it records jittery images. It looks superb & the MP3 player sounds good too but when it comes down to the confidence of knowing you can take & make an important phone call then the looks are immaterial.

As a lifelong Nokia owner then these new offerings from Nokia can only motivate buyers away from the company. Take my advice if you want to use it as a MP3 player then put it into flight mode & forget it's a phone, but if it's a phone that you are mainly using for making & receiving calls then forget this one.

I think a lot of people forgot about choosing a phone that is suitable for their needs & that's why some people are giving this phone such bad reviews. However, since I got this phone for what it is most advertised for, the music, I can say without a doubt that I am pleased with its performance. If one needs a phone that allows for quality sound, then this is the phone to have, if you want louder music that will eventually burst your speakers, then I suggest a sound system.

I bought this phone around a week ago. I am very impressed with it. I haven't had any crashing or restarting problems.

I love the design, it's a beautifully compact & thin phone, which looks stylish, its ideal for women I think, since it is quite a delicate phone, very small, & women maybe tend to not be as rough & the keypad is fine for my small fingers. I have also bought a protective fluffy cover for my phone for when it's in my bag or whatever, to avoid any accidental cracks of the screen since all my prior phones have been phones that haven't had exposed screens, & I'd read a few people commenting on screen damage. I have found this to be ideal for protecting my screen & very cheap.

I have found the volume for when I am on a call fine, I can hear perfectly. The only thing I'd prefer is for the sound to be able to go louder when I am listening to music directly through my phone without headphones, but of course listening to music through headphones delivers good sound.

I have found the radio & music player great, I have loved all the features, the screen has beautiful colour & quality, everything you need, this phone has, all my friends are very envious & love it, best phone I have had.

Of course, it's probably essential to invest in a good pair of headphones, & disregard the ones that come free. I plan to, but yes, great phone, I have had no problems, I highly recommend it.

Hey I just got this phone & it's great. I have dropped it a couple of times & it still hasn't broke. It's really handy as the MP3 player is on the side. I think the camera is really good & when I send stuff or get it off other peoples phone it is really quick which is surprising though cause it usually takes like an hour. I have it in black & red. I would have preferred it in blue though. I don't use my earphones I just plug in & ones I have around the house & they work as my last phone I lost the earphones so I was screwed. My only disappointment was that my speakers don't play very loud other then that I love it. My phone rocks the memory is great to (I have a memory card). I first bought this phone after Christmas purely based on looks, memory capacity & the 2MP camera.

Many letdowns, camera is very poor, no brightness or contrast etc, only works well in decent lighting otherwise the colours are very light. It does not have a night mode or flash which also limit use.

When moving files it can get very annoying as it automatically goes back to the main files menu & you have to navigate very awkwardly through each folder.

It is a very quiet phone I rarely hear it going off, despite this it does have good quality sound through the headphones, however my headphones broke within 2 to 3 weeks of purchase.

The other day I noticed a crack in the screen but presumed I must have done that & not realised but after reading these reviews I guess that is a fault.

This phone was overall a disappointment but I personally have had no problems with it crashing or restarting or anything like that.

I was going to buy the Sony Ericsson W580i as a replacement but after reading the reviews on that on here I am again very unsure.

- Others are average features. No special feature.

Thanks for all these reviews it helps.

Going through the list what I have observed is that folks who bought their phone later I.e. In March seemingly are quite happy with it those that bought it early are not.

I suppose the older ones could try doing a firmware update & see if it works out for them in case you cannot change the phone.

However, there are lot of people complaining about the voice quality in general so I guess I will just wait & watch as I am not in a hurry if Nokia is to fix this problem I may just about pick it up.

I bought this phone one month back & I have started regretting for my decision to buy this phone. This phone is really bad. Apart from slow & bad camera quality, the biggest drawback is that it gets restarted every two hours without any reason & while talking also it gives you the same problem. No doubt music is very good & I would give some point to that. But the basic motive to talk effectively is not fulfilled then I don't think it is a phone worth buying. So guys please don't go for this or you will also regret later on.

Hi everyone, guys I have been a N-Series 40 software used in this phone. I have found that this is the worst phone ever manufactured by Nokia. Making it the slimmest of the phones made a blunder mistake. The software used in this phone is the best software used in the Nokia phone till date very user friendly though it has some missing features like the call timer is not present. Being a technical guy I have faced several problems in my phone & will like to share it with you people.

- When the picture is clicked & the storage path is in the memory card then the error occurs Operation failed.
- Phone freezes when two or three messages or calls come in the silent mode with the vibrator on. This may occur in any other profile too with the vibrator on.
- Memory card gets lost & cannot be accessed without several attempts of restarting the phone.
- Adding, deleting, files, folders or any modification in the memory card the error occurs 'Unable to save file'. Sometimes it works but most of the time the message is displayed. Note: Memory card is checked in the other phones & is working perfectly fine. Also in the card readers. Tried other memory cards in the phone but the same problem occurs. Therefore the write permission is not there in the memory card.
- While playing 5 or 6 songs continuously, the phone restarts.
- Phone restarts any time.
- Many time the memory card cannot be seen in the phone.

I need to restart the phone at least 30 times daily by taking out the battery in order to read the new messages, to access the log, to access the memory card etc. Upgraded the phone's firmware to 3.63 (previous version 3.60) but the problems are not solved.

I took the phone to the service centre but they are not able to solve the problem because I feel that the phones problem is the hardware used in it. I getting annoyed with this phone & I cannot resell it to anyone. I have faced these problems in 20 days. I bought the phone on Feb 22.

The camera is pathetic though the same camera is used in 6300 but the picture quality is very far from that. I have three 6300 phones in my family & I would recommend that phone to everyone. It has only one problem that the battery doesn't last long.

The speaker it too low that you cannot hear it in the same room. The sound on headphone is good & truly better that N73 Music which I used for 2 months & the phone is pathetic except the camera.

I would try to purchase the Nokia 6301 which has the same software & also WLAN feature in it. But it is not available in India yet. If anyone has any suggestion please tell it to me. I am in a real problem with this phone. I am going to send it to the Nokia service centre in Delhi let's see what happens. I know they won't be able to solve it because it is a manufacturing defect in all the 5310 as I have read the reviews no phone is perfect & working completely fine. I would request the company to give me some other phone a 6300 or 6301 I would pay the difference amount. I have used N73 M, 6300, 3230, 3310, 6630, 6030, 6500. If anyone wants reviews on these do tell it to me.

Got this phone in February had it 3 weeks & the speakers failed on it also the screen kept freezing. The speaker was so bad I couldn't hear people & they couldn't hear me. I had to take out the battery & reset it every time, so annoying. I got fed up & returned it the shop gave me another one & again the screen kept freezing. Brought it back & got a Sony Ericsson w580i. I brought back two phones in under 30 days, not good. I would advise against buying one. The battery after full charge lasts one day if you are making an average amount of calls. Really disappointed as it is a great MP3 but as a phone the batch I got my phone from isn't good.

This is a great phone & for me, the best in a long line of Nokia's. Small, thin & light.

I have an 8GB memory card which seems to confuse it occasionally. It's a dream come true to carry so much music around & listen to it so easily but the menus aren't designed for quick access to 100 plus albums. Speaker quality is amazing considering the size.

The red design is classy & less garish that it might appear. The blue one will be nice.

Call quality is better (as far as I can tell) with Voice Clarity active on the Settings, Call menu. Why isn't this enabled by default?

Excellent value & Highly recommended!

SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELENT, MUCH BETTER THAN ANY Sony Walkman (W Module) PHONE. BATTERY IS OK PLENTY OF PLAYING HOURS. I CANNOT FIND ANY FAULT WITH THIS PHONE.

MORE IMPORTANT IS IT IS VALUE FOR MONEY. IT HAS MORE FEATURE THAN SOME PHONE THAT COST ABOUT £180 TO £200.

I bought this phone last December. It suffers the same problem as other consumer's complaint. Mine used to reboot after 4 or 5 songs. I have tried many tips & tricks & they did not work. One day I made complete conversion regarding music format, converting them in m4u & MP3 only. The results were not good 100% but now I can enjoy listening to my songs for about two hours & 30 minutes without crash or rebooting.

I am Nokia fan & I never tried any other brand but Nokia would better correct this problem, otherwise it will lose fans confidence. The model was design for music lover, it is unacceptable that users are complaining so much about the media player. Nokia 5300 which I had before was 50 times better than the 5310 when it comes to music & the quality of its ringtones.

Personally, I think Nokia should make sure about its software & the number of tests made through its phones before launching them on the market.

This is the worst phone I have ever had, & I have had a good few over the years. I would not recommend it to any of my friends. After only having this phone 3 weeks the following things went wrong with it. It automatic turns of after charging & also disconnects in middle of calls. The picture quality is very blurry. The reception it not very good no matter where you are. If you get a message or a phone call & don't answer it straight away the key pad locks up. Only way you can get them unlocked is to remove the battery. Then you have to reset it all. I took the phone back to where I bought it (Carphone Warehouse) & it was replaced like for like after lots of determination on my part. Now after having the replacement phone for only 11 days the keys have locked up. I will be returning the phone tomorrow after speaking to their head office for some help. I will not be buying a Nokia again I will go back to Sony Ericsson's.

I bought this phone in November & within 5 days I had to take it back to carphone warehouse where I got it because it kept freezing & turning off by itself so they gave me a new one which was nice of them at the time then 3 wks later the same thing happened again so they sent it off to get repaired which took 2 wk to get back to me again, & I didn't have it back 3 days until you GUESSED IT the exact same thing happened so that's when I really got hacked off & went back to carphone warehouse & had a big argument with the manager. The manager told me that it wasn't his problem so told me to talk to customer services & they told me that it wasn't there problem either it was up to the shop to sort it out so again I went back to the shop & demanded that it be sorted while I was in the shop. It took me approx 2 hours in the shop until the manager admitted that there is a problem with the 5310's & he has stopped selling them because there is so many complaints with them. I eventually got a new make & model & it's great.

The small screen gives small icons. With below average eyesight this is a disadvantage. I have always had Vodafone network which has had excellent reception BUT this phone seems to have a poor signal. For music playback it's okayish, but as a phone the boys at Nokia need to work on it a bit.

OK, I got my hands on this phone about three days ago. The first impressions it gave me, were, MANY firmware flaws, like the phone turns off while playing music, crackling sounds while playing games, writing text messages, but, Me like many other owners of this little jewel tried to perform a full restore on it (you can do it in the settings sub menu), after that my phone never has disappointed me, try this before you go for change it to another. All of you should also know that Nokia's next firmware release is about to fix those annoying firmware glitches. I have talked to several customer supporters at Nokia who has confirmed that next release of firmware (3.63) may fix all known bugs in firmware. Cheers.

I bought this phone as a replacement for my old Nokia because it was looking a bit dated & I really wish I hadn't.

When I first brought it home, I was over the moon. I loved the slim design, a simple easy lay out & was lovely to hold & use.

But I found, after only 2 days of having it, that every time I get a missed call the whole phone freezes. I can't unlock it or turn it off & have to take the battery out to restart it. I am taking it back tomorrow with the receipt & am getting a different phone as I have read below that Claire has had the same issue.

It's a shame because Nokia seem to be losing their reputation fast!

Firstly, people moaning about cameras, go & get a Sony k850i. What's the point in buying an MP3 phone if you want a camera. Secondly, if your phone is crashing, it suggests you either are too impatient or you have too much on the phone. Had mine for 4 months now & it hasn't crashed. Finally the battery is fine & it has loads of hours.

Any other complaints please post on review site & I will read. Overall a great phone!

After 4 days upon purchase, this hangs & dies! You need to turn it on again. I had it changed for another unit but still the same problem. Functions were suspended once you receive an incoming SMS or call or once the screen saver is displayed. You have to remove & return the battery to get it started again, & it's harder to turn ON after hanging & whenever it turns itself OFF. Maybe, this unit lacks further testing. With 2 units with the same problem, would you like to go for this one? Think again.

Phone looks great & it is slim & lightweight making it ideal for using when out running. Sound is very good & the built in 2 GB memory means you don't really have to go to the (usually very high) expense of upgrading to get a reasonable amount of songs on.

unfortunately had it 2 days!

All came from Carphone Warehouse which had it on for a very good price & I am worried they may have a bad batch & as such will probably not go for another one as they only give a short money refund period & don't refund the additional top up amount. Pity as on design & theoretical functionality it is way ahead of anything else in its price range at the moment.

Bought this phone fairly recently after my old one inexplicably stopped working. Design's ideal, modern & stylish without being over the top, it's also a candy bar style phone as opposed to a flip, slide or swivel type, which I think is good as it has fewer physical weak points. I've not experienced any of the problems other people have reported, speaker sound is loud & clear, it's never crashed or hung up at me, memory is plentiful, all the apps work fine. The camera isn't the best available, but if I wanted ultra professional photographs I'd be using my digital camera instead.

Overall I think it's an excellent phone.

I just got mine yesterday & it's great, so far no crashes everything is perfect. I will try to use an 8 GB memory with it & hope it works, has anyone tried yet? Also, can someone tell me how to turn off the sound the keys make when you press them? It's really annoying when you are writing a message since the tone is slower than you typing & for example when you press the 7 four times to get an S the tone sound only plays 2 or 3 times if you do it fast (or just at a normal writing rate) & you think you only pressed it three times when you actually pressed it four times, so you press it again believing it's the fourth time when it actually is the fifth. I think it's annoying & I suppose other people have that problem. The question is how you turn the sound off. It's usually easy to find in the settings, but on this one I can't find it anywhere, & the book, the CD or the website don't help at all. Please someone help me.

- Does an 8 GB memory work without any problems?

Hi all you guys & girls who have posted their thoughts about this phone. I already own a K750i. Now I have plans to buy another one & that is Nokia 5310. You all have put me in a fix now :- ( I really doubt if I should own a mobile other than a Sony. Is Sony the best mobile the world has ever witnessed? We always end up comparing every electronic product with Sony.

The rating I have put for this mobile is just my belief. Haven't experienced it yet.

Can anyone tell me if the phone has insertable (coloured) smiley faces in texts? I like this phone from the reviews but really want this small fun addition which is missing from my current phone.

Also can texts be sent to recently used numbers, or must you always go through the phone book (again issue with current Nokia owned).

Awesome phone! The best mobile phone I have ever owned. The design is extremely stylish, & the keypad is very comfortable. I haven't added music yet because my PC is infected by a virus so I can't really comment on the loudspeaker, but as far as I have used, it's one of the best models by Nokia. The best thing is that it is so slim, & I can carry it anywhere unlike most of the Nokia mobile phones these days which are so heavy! 10 out of 10!

I have had this phone about 2 weeks & it is really good but it keeps blanking out when I play my music. Has anyone else had this problem? It has also started to not recognise my sim & shows no contacts. I don't know whether this is just my phone or if anyone else had this?

I think the design is awesome & for the size of it, it has pretty good features. Has anyone tried to use a 6 GB or 8 GB memory instead of the 4 GB maximum that Nokia says, please tell me how it went?

No phone is perfect each phone lacks something, only to make the purchaser buy a newer one that is better later. In my opinion, it is a great stylish phone, the design is very attractive (owning the red colour). I find this phone very nice especially after owning a Sony Ericsson z530i. The Features are not bad, all is acceptable but I have witnessed a few problems since I bought it for instance, the camera is not so properly adjusted, & the video is poor. But other than that this phone is a good choice.

Really good. Hard to set up on the computer but in the end you get the hang of it. Lovely design & AMAZING screen. Only problem so far is that the keypad is a bit small so it's hard to play games (who plays mobile games anyway? ) It has a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can use your own headphones & don't have to pay a fortune for new ones if you lose them. The speaker is OK but could be better. Thin design & good camera. Hope this review was helpful.

I have a blue one, I bought it just I saw because of its handsome & design. But I am not satisfied : ( of it's usability. The speaker Sounds is so weak (in compare of Walkman Sony Ericsson like w810i or.), the camera has not a 2M quality (in compare of (in compare of Walkman Sony Ericsson like w810i or.) or K750i) & it hasn't NIGHT MODE white balance! XpressMusic is a JOKE that's you can't play your own playlist Like Walkman Sony Ericsson it's too bad player software but in other side the headset has good quality.

It is a bad mobile, the sound is the best thing in this phone, its camera resolution is only 320 x 240, it is a very weak design it can break easily, it hasn't the 3G technology, also you can't play more games on it (no Symbian software technology). It is the worst mobile I have bought.

I love the design of this phone, how sleek it is & how you can put normal headphones in it rather than special ones. I can't wait to open my Xmas present LOL.

THIS phone is good. I was stuck between the Sony k700i & this phone & boy I was glad I bought this, it's very easy to use & it's sleek & you can use normal headphones unlike Sony where you HAVE to buy special earphones which are way too expensive. & the music quality is awesome except it isn't as loud as Sony's. One thing though I broke the cover for my UBS jack when I used too much strength but other than that this phone is a must buy!

This phone is pretty basic but it's really good! I brought it mainly for the Music side, but a better camera would have been awesome!

I have had no problems with mine handset even the battery is wicked, most Nokia's are rubbish for this! I mean, I am a textaholic (about 100 texts per day) but I only have to charge the handset every 3 days! Wow!

The only thing that has caused problems is the loudspeaker is not that great at all, it's muffled! I was shocked at how light the handset is, you don't even realise it's in your pocket it's that light!

But yes I would recommend this phone to anyone really!

The phone is great to use & the features also are mind blowing. The speakers have very low sound output which makes the phone not a 100% great phone. Although, the headset sound is absolutely awesome. Battery backup for such a slim set is OK. Yet lot more could have been given for such a handsomely priced mobile device.

First impressions of this phone are Wow it's tiny, so slim & light it's hard to believe you're holding a mobile phone, camera & MP3 player. I was very impressed with the sound/speaker quality, not quite as good as Sony Ericsson Walkman phones I've had but when you consider the size of it, it's very good.

Drawbacks for me were the user interface. Having used Sony Ericsson's for a while I found the Nokia not quite so user friendly. For example when storing mixed items on the memory card e.g. Photos, music & videos they are all stored in the one folder, whereas on Sony Ericsson's they are automatically placed in their individual folders.

I wasn't very impressed with the build quality either, the gap at one side of the screen was considerably bigger than the other & the battery cover didn't quite fit flush. There was also a tiny spec of dirt inside the screen. I would recommend thoroughly checking it in the shop before buying or ordering online so you have the 7 day return option. As for me I returned mine to Carphone Warehouse to be told they can't change it for the same model! But I can exchange it for a different phone. I now have the Sony Ericsson W580i which I am much happy with for usability but the 5310 was a beautiful phone, if only I wasn't so fussy!

At last! A standard 3.5mm audio jack & a standard micro USB connector, both on the top! This was obviously designed by someone who actually ever used a portable music player. No more special converters, special cables, bulky proprietary plugs sticking on the side. Add to that a great 16m colours display & keys/buttons that can be used by a grown up person. Not to mention 70 grams weight, 10mm thickness, 18 hours music playback time. Thank you Nokia!
