Have now had this phone for just under 2 years. Casing cracked when trying to fit new SD card a week after purchase. Screen very prone to water damage & phone has now developed a problem with USB port so that it will not communicate with PC to sync files or upload pictures. Also prone to crashing randomly at inconvenient moments. Battery life is now problematic as has to be recharged around every other day. Firmware does not appear to have been updated since 2007, & no updates are available. A usable phone but not by far Nokia's best.

This phone is bulky, it doesn't lock when you close it & you have to press lock once it's already closed, its case looks really dirty after only a couple of days, does not switch off boost network at all easily & I do not recommend.

Great phone. I have tried other makes but always go back to trusty, old faithful Nokia. I upgraded from 6230i to my 5300 but the quality & user friendly features which Nokia pride themselves on shine through. I don't really want to move on to yet another upgrade but you can be assured it will be another Nokia.

At first, I had no problems with this phone. The design is good & it has some good features.

But then I realised how bad the battery life is, how easily the screen scratches & after the first 3 months of getting it, I had to send it into repair 4 times in a year. Every time it was fixed, the same problems happened again. It freezes when it turns on, it cuts people off when you're talking to them & then crashes for about 5 minutes, & then when you try to call them again they can't hear you, that's if you're lucky. Usually after it crashed, I couldn't send text messages or make calls for at least 15 minutes.
3 months ago, it stopped recognising my SIM card so I couldn't access anything. It's now done it again but the warranty has since run out so I've given up on it & bought a new phone. I am going to write to Nokia & complain because it has been a complete waste of £70. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE, IT IS RUBBISH!

This phone is the best phone you can get for the price the camera is amazing the sound quality is good the only problem is the internal memory is too small they should off put about a 60 megabytes than a 5 megabytes that's the only problem but I put a two gig card in now so I am good to go, you should get this phone it is the best.

I bought this phone about a year ago & it has turned out to be a great phone.

I then however dropped it on the floor a couple of days ago & the glass screen didn't smash but the pixels inside got bumped. This was really annoying & I am not sure if I had a warranty.

I don't know whether to get it fixed or not because of price. It is better to buy a new phone? Or to get it fixed?

Now this is the best phone for you to buy if you are an uninformed old man of a kid who doesn't value games & applications. A very beautiful phone, yes we all agree bout that but give me a break! Just 2MB of spare internal memory, no way.

Whenever download games or applications made for the phone I get OUT OF MEMORY error.

Nokia claims the phone can support a 2GB memory card. My brother doesn't try it else you are ready to purchase another.

I have to complain about the earpiece. For goodness sake it's an xpressmusic. They could do better than that.

I have had this phone for a year now after my mum picked it for me & I love it. The design is nice & the sound is excellent especially when used with speakers & I can store 150 songs which is awesome. The battery life lasts for about 2 to 3 days & overall I am very happy with it as it's the best mobile I have ever had. The camera isn't great but is good for basic photos & I am happy with the video recorder however you do have to reset the video settings to get the video to record more than the default 15 seconds, but that is easy enough. At the end of the day it's a music phone & that side of the phone is of high quality the only problem I have had with this is when using headphones the socket no longer works properly but id still recommend this phone & the price is good to there is also a variety of colours to choose from :) & for any fallout boy fans the 5300 has been used in their music videos. Hope this helps :).

Excellent phone! Spent one successful year with 5300ExMu.

More details, cost effective. Excellent Music quality. Very much useful music keys. Camera is OK, need to play some tricks to get better quality pictures. Video. Playing is good, capturing is just OK (VGA). A bit bulky, No physical damage problem. Battery backup is above average, (turn off vibrator, eye catching screensaver & wallpaper, when not required, keep smart ring & message tones in less volume, battery backup will rock, even if you play more music). Internet access is good. Slide is still working fine for me. I didn't face any software or hardware problem at all. Processor is fast enough (I have 1GB memory card) & all features that it has works fine & useful. Very good phone, go for it, Must for first time multimedia phone users, after this you can swap to any other high ends.

Enjoy a lot for less price.

Don't! Just don't. I have 3 friends with this phone & they all have the same problem, half the time they do not ring when you are called. There seems to be a default & hidden random mute function. Between us we have had 4 exchanges of phones & 7 repairs in a year. Not one of them has worked properly. I like Nokia & have been happy with my other phone but this one is not good. Get the 5310 instead!

I think it's a great phone for the price, great sound quality, nice colour screen, handy music shortcut buttons & a fairly good camera.

One or two gripes though, my 5300 has a tendency to switch itself off sometimes (but may only be my handset) & the second gripe is that the battery life sucks, my battery life lasts around 2 days, even though Nokia say that it will last 5 to 6 days, but overall a very good phone for the cost effective people.

Got this phone 6 weeks ago & thought it was an OK phone, small, easy enough to use & camera took OK pictures. The other day received a text message & when I went to read it the screen was showing the numbers running down the screen with the key symbol, weird! Switched phone off & then back on & screen now looks like a bag of hundred & thousands. Phone has not been dropped or water damages.

This is a very good phone!

I personally love its design though some of my friends don't. I have had it just over a year & it hasn't broken once. The MP3 function is very good & the camera is good enough for everyday pictures. Though if you want clean, sharp, amazing pictures, buy a camera.

The only problem I have had with this phone is that the end of the headphone jack connection has come of inside the phone, so I can no longer listen to music using the headphones but that's a problem with the enhancements & not the actually phone I guess.

An annoying thing for me is that mine doesn't have a calculator. I have read all the specification of the phone & apparently it's meant to have 1. It's not a major problem but just confused me a bit.

Overall I think it's a great phone to have & would certainly recommend it to other people. All my phones have been Nokia's so far & this one is definitely my favourite.

I BOUGHT IT BY READING REVIEWS & QUERY ON the NET. The PHONE LOOKS GOOD & the FEATURES ARE ALSO GOOD. The MAIN FEATURES I LIKE ON THAT PHONE IS the MUSIC DOWNLOAD. ONE CAN EASILY DOWNLOAD the MP3 MUSIC FORMAT BY USING USB CABLE SUPPLIED WITH IT. The DISADVANTAGE IS the PLASTIC BODY & FOR CHANGING the SIM & MICRO SD CARD you NEED TO OPEN ITS BACK COVER. OVERALL the PHONE IS ALRIGHT.

Okay, I even like this phone. Is good to write messages, it's easy & works perfectly when I am playing, writing messages & listening music at the same time.

BUT, when I bought it, it seems perfect, a week later, the sound of the phones become less louder, who call me doesn't listen because of the micro, the column stop work, I don't get the messages & the camera blocks the phone.

One year has passed & I'll will buy a Nokia N81 8GB.

I advise, DO NOT BUY a Nokia 5300 BECAUSE IT GIVES A LOTS OF PROBLEMS.

This is a brilliant phone. I haven't had any problems with the phone & although the camera is not the best quality, I wouldn't expect anything more because when I bought the phone I read about it! The people saying it's not that great are obviously used to having high tech expensive phones. If you have more money then go & buy an expensive phone, don't waste your time writing a review for one you find is cheap & rubbish because it's not! The music feature is brilliant & I am planning on buying some speakers for the phone. I am also impressed by the amount of colours for new covers for the phone. I've seen pink, red, yellow, blue, black & grey. On my old more expensive phone, I could not change the cover so I will be buying more covers for the phone!

Overall this is a great value for money phone which does exactly what it says on the box including a few more extras. I would recommend anyone who wants a decent, inexpensive phone with a camera, video feature, games, great music & enough memory for about 50 songs & other various features to buy this great phone.

I had two of these phones. First one was awful. Wouldn't send messages but would still charge me for the text so I ended up spending almost 3 times what I should have been. Second phone was good although MP3 was a bit thick & played the already installed ringtones. Found to make a list by adding the songs I wanted onto favourite playlist & play that. My computer couldn't cope with the software & crashed. Don't know if that was computers fault though. Took ages to work out how to transfer songs as well. Other than that an alright phone. Worth having, lost mine on the bus though : ( now I have a rubbish Motorola because I'm poor & can't afford a nice one at the moment.

The only thing I'd say is that you've got to make sure it doesn't get any water in the screen, I've been really careful & it still managed to gets some water drops into it. I have had it for a year now, & it was perfect for most of it. But about 3 months ago it started to delete some of my music files & photos. Now it doesn't even switch on!

Plus it has no flash! But as a temporary phone I would recommend it!

Lovely.

Downsides first.
- the MP3's a bit thick & won't do lists.
- Call groups are limited to 20 per group.
- Data transfer's primitive, doubling up all previous info.
- It doesn't like the rain or moisture AT ALL.

Good points.
- It works. Does what it says on the tin & is a pleasing design.
- When wet, remove, sim, memory card & battery & gently warm it for a day & its fine.
- Pulling the phone jack out cuts the MP3. Good idea.
- After a standard cook, kill, cook, kill on the batteries they last forever.
- Loads of free themes available on the net.
- Not as fragile as I thought it would be.

I had this phone on contract last year & have had six replacements as they keep breaking. The first time I had no signal, then it corrupted my memory card, I had two were the screen went weird & upside down in lines, one that completely froze & could not do anything with, & the last 3 have been a combination of not making calls, won't send or receive messages & no one can hear me when I call them. Think the mouth piece has gone. At last they are changing my phone for a different model! The battery life is rubbish & so is the camera! I would not recommend this phone it's the worst Nokia I have ever had!

I bought this phone approximately 2 months ago, & overall I think it's an okay phone, although I have encountered several problems regarding it.

Firstly, the Nokia 5300 has a terrible battery life. I have been recharging it several times ones a week & it's becoming a hassle.

The design is okay, a bit wide for my liking, although the slide feature is starting to rub against the number 2 & cause a mark. This problem has happened to me & in also my friend who bought his several months ago.

Having my phone for only a few weeks, I have to admit the memory card is pretty shocking too, as I have had to delete several things due to it being full, I am outraged as I only have a few songs & deleted a lot of my messages.

The phone is alright, for those who don't intend to not use it a lot.

I only bought this phone yesterday but I am already really impressed with it. I got have it in grey & white & it's really sleek.

When I opened the box & found a snazzy pair of headphones I was really chuffed. The sound quality is far better than I expected it to be. I thought I'd only be able to fit about 10 songs without buying an extra memory card but it can hold about 50!

The buttons are very easy to press & for the people who are complaining about how long the battery lasts for them I suggest you turn your Bluetooth off, you really don't need it on all the time.

All the features on it are really good. It has a 1.3 mega pixel camera, organizer, voice recorder, calendar & LOADS more! As for the screen, it's massive so it's very clear.

Nokia is a great make, you can always trust in them. Buy this phone!

Very loud & clear. I am very contented. I was even shocked when I accidentally dropped my phone, still it worked fine! Just last week the water spilled on my phone! Oh my, still it worked fine! The first thing I am going to say is that this was designed for teens & young adults. It's not going to look right if you're in a business & you've got this clamped to your ear. But that doesn't stop it being a really great phone. It's got the easy to use Nokia menu, & fits in your hand perfectly. The slide is soft & sleek, & it has a 1.3 megapixel camera. It says that on the box. Don't then buy it & go, like zoom the camera is rubbish because if you were reading, then you would have seen that it says 1.3 megapixel, not 5.

The Music Player is great with my memory card, so far I've got 3 albums on their so far, & loads of memory left! It plays really well & it is helpful having the little converter thing so you can plug a different type of headphone in as well.

I love this phone. It's great.

What can I say? It started off to be a great phone for me for the following reasons.

- I had music on the go without having to buy a separate MP3 player.
- Pictures were at good quality & turned out larger & much better when downloaded onto my PC.
- Buttons are very easy to press & navigation wasn't difficult either.

Basically, it was useful & great for the right reasons, until recently when it really let me down.

- the memory card kept getting corrupted for no reason & files suddenly got deleted on their own.
- It's ridiculously expensive to get a larger memory card & the existing one, as well as the actual phone memory, really didn't have as much space as I needed once more pictures, videos & text messages came in.
- the picture quality deteriorated rapidly & the camera scratches easily. Even in night mode, the quality seems to have gone worse, even when I am actually taking care of my phone & putting it in a pocket where other items can't damage it.
- the side buttons have gone slightly out of place & have become very dirty.
-the battery life is terrible, only lasting for one day from 9 to 5.

I could go on, but generally, it was a clever & interesting device from the start of release, but please do not purchase now. There are a lot better models out there that don't get worn out so easily, even if you take care of them.

This phone is brilliant but I have had a problem with the memory card. I bought a 1GB memory card shortly after buying it & every time I put it in the phone it tells me it is not formatted to which I reply yes when it asks if it would like to format it for me. Then I open it & it's empty. Then I go back out & try to go back into it & it says it is not formatted again. I even tried formatting it on my computer & I am starting to get really annoyed. After this I tried the original 256 MB memory card I got with the phone, to which it does the same. It's definitely something to do with the phone. Does anybody know what the problem is? Okay, so I have this phone for eleven months now, & it is officially broken. The screen has cracked twice, the first time it cost me 50 Euro, but the second time I bought a new screen on eBay for less than 20 Euro. Three of the buttons don't work, the sound has gone in the recordings & today the screen went blank & won't come back on. It is not a good design, the slide is very flimsy & if it is dropped the phone can break in two. When I first got it, I thought the features were fantastic, the music player, the video recorder, etc. They are still pretty good but there are better phones out there for the same price. It is not a durable phone & won't last if you drop it occasionally, like I did. It is very user friendly though, as are all Nokia's. Overall it is a good phone, features are a bit dated, & it is quite flimsy, but if you take good care of it, it will be fine. Hope this helps.

I used quite a lot of Nokia phones before in my lifetime, I have to say that the 5300 XpressMusic is the smoothest Nokia phone I have ever used! I've used 8210, 8250, 3200, 3650, (Not QD)N GAGE, 3660, 1100, 3100, 3120, 2610, N73, N73 Music Edition, 6630 & now 5300. N73 lags like rubbish! But all the others were just fine.

But still 5300 still boasts its excellent sound quality compared to N series phones. Camera is not what I've expected, a bit blur than the 6630, too bad. But heck, it's got sporty designs, smooth sliding mechanism, crystal clear display (w810's screen looks worse!), nice speakers, a MP3 player like control which I like the most!

I really recommend it for music lovers who want to take their music with them but still can make calls & sends SMS!

I will only ever buy Nokia phones they are the best & the easiest to use. I had this phone for only about 6 months before it got stolen sadly : (.

PROS
- Nice big buttons which made SMS a breeze.
- the music player & the USB port.
- Bluetooth & the fact that you could transfer your MP3's onto it & use them as ring tones.

CONS
- No flashlight.
- Sometimes when I tried to play songs they just crashed for no reason.
- the slide is way too loose & it looks way too plastic.
- infra-red is pretty much useless its pretty much the same as Bluetooth, except that the phone you are sending data to has to be touching yours.
- No video streaming.
- the camera is rubbish.

Honestly it's an OK phone but I wouldn't waste the money there are way better Nokia phones out there seriously.

Personally, being a person who moves around a lot, I find that the simple, rugged construction works very well. It's durable more or less, & it seems to conform to my lifestyle. It's OK, but it has its fair share of problems, otherwise, it would've been a good year for me. There seems to be this problem regarding the phone where it just crashes after you open up certain playlists, I can't explain it really, it just happens every now & then. Also, there seem to be issues about message memory, well then again, I think it might have something to do with me having 2000 plus messages in my inbox (go figure for nostalgic people).

Personally, I love this phone to pieces (maybe even literally). But I don't think it's for everyone.

Nice features (for its price - 60 pounds) & for those who're complaining about battery drainage, keep it off the loudspeaker & there's really no point keeping the Bluetooth on 24/7.

Anyway, the sales package I got had a 256MB card, which I am quite satisfied with. I've put about 20 full albums on it & that's enough for me & a data cable, so you don't need a dongle.

Excellent phone overall. I'd prefer this to an N-Series any day. Quick responses are what I like from Nokia's. One of the features I admire most is the landscape full screen mode for cameras & pictures & the flash file playback. I haven't seen that on any of my phones yet, so I am pretty impressed.

Definitely recommend it & no problems so far. Even my friend doesn't complain about all these problems that I read about.

I liked the phone it's very good & loving the music on it but the battery problem worries me & the internal memory is only 5MB so you have to buy a memory card. Overall I would recommend this phone to a friend but does this phone have Internet because some reviews say it doesn't, anyway good phone nice looking! Brilliant!

This phone is simple but it has everything I need. Music, great camera, games, organizer, & it's very easy to use. The music buttons are right on the side. It feels like an MP3 player. The screen is huge & always clear. The battery lasts forever, & it only needs to be plugged in for less than an hour to become fully charged again. I have dropped it a lot, but it still works perfectly.

The only problem that I have run into is the fact that this is my second 5300. For some reason my first one stopped working after about 8 months. T-mobile gave me the chance to switch phones when that happened, but I liked this one so much that I decided not to. Since then I haven't had a problem with it.

The fact that it plays music so easy I treat it like I would an iPod, which is way different on the way I treated my 'just a phone' Motorola v188. That phone is tough dropped it so many times. The Nokia 5300 is really good! I just got it today & already I am listening to my favourite music out loud (I tend not to use the headphones). The quality is amazing & I found it really easy to transfer from iTunes.

The phone itself is sleek & the slider is smooth. I have it in grey, it looks really nice.
The phone is easy to use. The back is a bit hard to get off but the man in the shop did it so I didn't have to. The only problem is the Internet doesn't work, but that probably isn't the phone's fault because my friend's Internet doesn't work either, & she's with a different a) network & b) phone.

The messaging & everything is fine. You get about 10 ringtones (though there are a few more on the included memory card). The same goes for themes & wallpapers really. I think you can download stuff from the Internet too, but of course, mine doesn't work.
The battery was surprisingly quick to charge, the man in the shop said 16 hours, the book said 3 but it actually only took 1 & a half!

Overall I'd say this phone is definitely worth it, the music player is amazing, there's an OK camera & video, a voice recorder, Bluetooth, Internet. It has all the latest gadgets all wrapped up in a stylish, easy-to-use device. 100% worth it.

Great phone! All the people below who are moaning about it obviously don't know how to use the phone. Yes, the battery will wear out but isn't this normal on any phone? Yes, the speakers will crackle if you have it too loud but this is a phone not a home stereo system! Yes, the pictures are pretty poor but what else do you expect from a 1.3MP camera?

It's a great small little gem. Fits nicely into your pocket & does everything a phone should do. I had a Nokia N70 & that was too big & very slow. This phone is one of the best I've had.

It has 2 major bad points:

- Battery life is just too short despite all efforts in setting the phone to save energy (without using the music feature).
- You N-Series.

Aside from these two points, the camera is surprisingly good, music is great (wish they made with a 3.5 jack, supplied adapter sticks out too much, data transfer connection is fast with its HSCSD & functions are as they are suppose to be, functional. Sorry Nokia an almost success story.

I have had to send this phone back twice because the navigation keys all locked up & wouldn't work. Also the screen just suddenly went off one day & never came back on.

I still have problems with it now with the sound sometimes not working, & the casing around the number keypad coming apart! The phone is a bit on the bulky size & also heavy. A good looking phone, but not worth the hassle of buying.

The MUSIC IS GREAT BUT the CAMERA WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF IT WAS A 2MP CAMEA. TO BUY IF YOU WANT A MUSIC PHONE & DON'T MIND ABOUT the CAMERA. Got this phone on O2, Nokia gives you a 256MB micro SD card but it will be in the slot on the back of the phone (not under the battery).

Very easy phone to use, can get anywhere with the music playing (e.g. Settings) not with the camera on. The camera will be on the back not when you slide it up. If you get a call the music will stop & start again after the call has ended. The sound that comes out the speaker is the best sound I have heard from a phone from Nokia.

The bad point are: the back of the phone is hard to open. When you slide up you phone you finger touches the top of the middle button then you will have to close the camera (It can be changed), you will have to plug an enhancement for Radio. Can't listen to music when the camera is on. If you are on menu the camera button will not work so go back to the homepage then click the button.

Great Phone, Great Music Player, Great All-Rounder for a Music-Centric Phone.

Love the Loud Speaker but don't abuse it so much. It might break. Don't set the volume to the maximum level when playing through the loudspeaker.

Camera Tips:

1. Always set the NIGHT MODE option especially on night shots
2. Set the White Balance to Daylight - When outdoors (Day) Fluorescent - When indoors
3. For acceptable shots, set the resolution to 800 x 600.

NOTE: Using the camera will put up a big drain on your battery.

Battery Tip:

- Don't always use the camera. Only when needed.
- Set Packet Data Connection to When Needed. Setting can be found on Settings>Connectivity>Packet Data
- Always turn on the Power Saver Feature.
- Turn off your Bluetooth when not in use.
- Turn off screensavers (This are only battery wasters)
- Always make sure that the phone has adequate signal. (If the phone is searching for signals, it drains a big part of the battery)
- I know its fun to play games, but it can decrease your battery so fast.

After reading these reviews, I have to say I agree with a few of them. My phone is constantly dropping calls, & has the worst reception, my friends tell me all they hear is the background noise. I am very unimpressed with this phone & I am planning on getting a different one ASAP. & yes the music player works well but if that's all this phone is good for, buy an MP3 player.

I've had this phone for about 3 months & I think it's a great phone. My only complaint is that after sometime I couldn't receive files via Bluetooth. I had to format my memory card to be able to receive files. The music player is good. It would have been better if it didn't play my ringing tones & SMS alert tones together with the songs on the music library.

As for the appearance, I wish I cud get a black face (both front & back) it would look good if it was all black like the N80. Could someone please tell me where I can get a black face for the 5300. Otherwise, its a good phone.

Don't EVER drop this phone or you will have trouble using it for the rest of the time you use it. It FREEZES all the time. My camera button on the side doesn't work anymore, I have to go into settings to get to my camera. The back of the phone won't come off, & it won't fit on normally.

The ONLY good thing about this phone is the music aspect, or else I would have DITCHED it a LONG time ago! The rest is just bad or is just average.

I bought this phone when it first came out & paid £200 for it. That was in January. In 5 months, the screen had cracked, the 0 button had fallen out, it had become very slow & sometimes my on the phone to people I would sound like an alien!

Also, it becomes very loose & feels as though it is going to fall apart. The reception is very bad too. The battery life is rubbish & considering it is a music phone, I would have to charge it every day to listen to music. The headphones are also really bad & mine fell apart & stopped working within 2 months.

Now it is only £100 & I am not surprised. I would not recommend this phone at all. It is rubbish.

Hope this helps!

Great phone, sw & design. However my main complaint is with the music player. It orders all songs by theme title, not by directory or file name. It is horrible to listen a classic play or a live concert, for example. I have two separate directories with songs, & they are played all mixed alphabetically, & it even includes the ringtones in the middle of it all! I have no way to choose my 'base' song directory, &/or choose a sort criteria. I have also a Nokia 6131 (for business), & it does not have this problem. It plays all songs in the same order they are stored. I would think a phone branded as 'XpressMusic' would be more flexible or include more options for this.

Any serious music fan will have far more music than this phone is capable of dealing with, & should avoid buying this phone because it isn't anywhere near up to the job.

I bought the 2GB card in order to store as many songs as possible on the phone. Converted them to AAC+ using Winamp pro, loaded them onto the phone, & cannot play any of them because the library update constantly crashes the phone & simply never finishes.

I have been forced to upgrade the firmware because the crashes destroyed phone function & froze it, nobody can call me & phone would not connect to network. It crashed also during the firmware upgrade, a very dangerous time to do so as the upgrade could have been destroyed rendering the whole thing permanently inoperable. Luckily the original firmware had not yet been removed when the crash happened & I was able to restart it.

It is laughable to suggest this device will contain as many as 1500 songs. I loaded less than 1000 & it caused these problems. The phone is less than two weeks old & I can't wait to get shot of it.

The Bluetooth headset connection keeps dropping & when it does you can answer but you can't hear your caller. Try to transfer to the phone to take the call & you cannot without dropping the call.

I have had Nokias for over ten years & this phone has really put me off buying another. It's a most unreliable piece of junk. Useless as a music player, I will be going back to my ageing Dmp3, which I bought it to replace & as a phone it isn't much better as the claims it makes for what it is capable of it simply cannot do reliably.

I notice most of the suppliers are having to cut their prices to shift them. I am not surprised.

I WOULD AVOID BUYING THIS PHONE.

Considering this is a phone made for music - Nokia have managed to put the worst headphones ever with it! OK, I know I can go & buy another set of headphones, but it's not the point. The radio, which sounds much lower than the MP3 player cannot be used with the graphic equaliser, which is a shame. When using the radio, I have to have it turned up to maximum because it's so low. The red rubber on the phone gets dirty, & as yet I have not found anything to clean it properly with. The button when texting (clear) is a bit fiddly. When I go to clear a letter on the text screen it sometimes knocks the key beneath it & the message ends up in the draft box which is annoying. Other than that it's not a bad phone. I am off to buy a decent set of headphones & a clear fascia then maybe I can stop moaning. LOL

I am trying very hard to love this phone which I bought very recently. I've been a big fan of Sony Ericsson Walkman phone & was using W800i before I sold it to a good friend & bought myself Nokia 5300 music xpress. I'd say, they sound quality is poor comparing to my previous W800i. The camera also lose to W800i. The memory of the phone itself is stingily small! I kind of regret actually buying it. My advice is that, if you are seriously looking for a Walkman phone, just buy the series from Sony Ericsson's. So far, I've yet to discover Nokia's ability to outdo Sony's superb sound & video quality!

The only comforting thought of my 5300 is that typically Nokia phones are, well to me a concept of wear-&-tear. Nokia's phone are tough & heavy-duty (as we would call it here). I remember my previous Nokia phone fell of the roof & into the drain below. All wet. But after I dried it out in the sun, it worked well again. I doubt SEs are just as tough. A friend of mine K750i dropped to the floor not very long ago & the camera picture quality has been compromised.

This is one of the best phones I have ever had & it's really nice. It is very attractive to first look but seems like very cheap phone due to its design. It's little bulky to carry on the pocket. The slider design is great & new try from Nokia but it seems to be not so durable. I read the above reviews too about screen breakage but mine one is still good though its somewhat scratched. Camera is good in perfect light condition but the coloured is blurred at night condition. Sound quality is fantastic with equalizer function but the sets which are coming nowadays from Nokia don't have the quality less than it. Music keys aren't so much helpful because they don't function at the time of keypad lock. Battery life is OK but the backlight is on for long time which doesn't save battery. Is not a smart phone too. Its internal memory is too low i.e. 8 mb (user almost 5 mb only) which is very low at least 32 mb was needed. Play list creator lacks in music player. Screen resolution is good & view is clear even in sunlight too. It lacks enough photo editing facilities but remember it's a music phone but just the names are given, no such great facilities for music too.

The worst thing or the main thing I don't like in this set is its operation system. It is a series 40 platform phone but the new phones & the N-series of Nokia are all series 60, 80 or 90 platform phones. Its hard to get the applications & games of series 40 phones over the Internet too so it has really disappointed me. Its main fault is it doesn't run series 60 applications &.SIS file, that's it! So if anyone knows the website where I can get the free applications & games for this set or series 40 platform sets then plz post me. I would be very grateful if you can help me for it as I am a free software lover.

But in overall, the phone is great & you will have a great time with it for few months only you own it.

The phones screen is so delicate that the slightest knock may crack the screen rendering the phone useless. Despite not being as robust as other Nokia phones the manufacturer still seems to feel that it is 'fit for purpose'. Therefore, screen damage is not covered by the warranty.

This mobile phone is a best buy especially on its price tag :P.It's easy to use, even with a no brainier! The design is superb & the phone is fine but you need to attach a crystal casing in order to protect your mobile phone from scratches & accidental bumps. The loudspeaker has great quality & the music player is easy to use but the only thing is there's no PLAYLIST CREATOR you just need the Nokia PC SUITE in order to make a playlist. Overall, the phone is great & superb.

Having tried most of the leading phones on the market over the last couple of years this is undoubtedly right up there for features & cool looks. I was always anti-Nokia & thought the handsets lacked quality in build although the designs were inspiring. However this has changed my opinion. I have even put down my 8800 with all its elegance & luxury to use this handset instead. The new Nokia software is without a doubt as good, if not better, than Sony Ericsson. It's just a pity Nokia themes seem harder to come by & the ones that are out there are pretty rubbish.

Its use as an all round media player makes it a handy tool to have in your pocket, particularly when you use it to watch soap episodes converted to 3GP/mp4 etc. Ringtone volume is really good. There is no way it will not be heard when out in the streets with the phone in your pocket. The voice activated dialing is first class. If you're considering one you won't be disappointed. From a born again Nokia fan.

Hate to give bad reviews BUT this is a flimsy design with a rubbish longetivity. I am one my 2ND unit & this one is off to Nokia as it faulty as well. Memory card continually corrupts data, radio will not play through blue tooth headphones, slide mechanism is loose. Elegant JUNK.

This is a great phone, I had not planned on buying this phone but the Sony phone that I wanted was discontinued so I opted for the Nokia 5300.it is an attractive & funky phone with an excellent MP3 player the sound is exceptional. The camera is not the best but the MP3 player makes up for this. Overall it is an excellent phone & it is easy to use. The price is also quite attractive you definitely!

I only bought this phone because my w550i broke down after a year. I didn't want to fix it, so I just traded it in for a brand new Nokia. Id rather have the z610i but the model was still not released. So here, I've got the phone. I like the way it looks, funky, stylish. It's well-made too. Mine's not flimsy at all. However, it's very bulky. It would NOT look good on your pocket.

It has everything a mid-priced phone should have. I am just disappointed with the lack of flash, & the arrangement of the keypad. The back button is placed too near the end button. People with large hands would have difficulty with that. The rest of the keypad is a joy to use though! It's got the perfect tactile response, enabling me to text while driving.

As Nokia is known for, it's easy to use. Plus for the price, it considered dirt cheap already because of the added 256MB mem card. There's only one thing I don't like. Simply, it's Nokia. Nokia in the Philippines easily lose resale value. It's like throwing away money. Id rather have Ericsson than a Nokia. With that in mind, I'll be buying the z610i this week after using the Nokia for 2 months =)

Hey, I got this phone 2 days ago & I am very pleased with it. Its much more of an upgrade to the Motorola v3 RAZR [I would never recommend this phone to anyone] on t-mobile it comes with a 256 MB memory card which is great. The screen is 262k & the camera is 1.3 megapixels. It doesn't have flash but in the light the camera looks like a 2 megapixel camera. It also has photo editing & a decent video camera which can take up to 2 hours on a half of video recording with a memory card.

The phone is easy to use & here are the good points about it:

- 262k screen
- 1.3 mega pixel cam
- up 2 2 gigabytes memory with a microSD memory card
- photo editing & video capture & playback
- Bluetooth, infrared & USB

Bad points:

- video camera is OK not the best but remember the phone is meant for music so its basically a bonus it even had a video camera!

I have had this phone now for a couple months. It's not the best phone in the world but it's OK! I like the buttons on the side of the phone itself. I find them quiet useful. Only prob is when its in your pocket it has a habit of ringing people.& to have to constantly slide it open just to lock the keypad & again to unlock it makes it quiet annoying.

On the whole not a bad phone. Only fault I can see is the locking of the buttons/keypad. Even with the auto key lock on it still seems to like too call people! Sound quality is great! & camera is EXCELLENT considering it's only a 1.3 camera. Most phones now being 2.0 & above easily. I would say its keeps up with them quite well!

Pertaining to the review of one of the person I am just entering my review because I have the phone & bought it because I like it & besides it's not very expensive like the other Music phone in the market. I should be honest here, the phone looks very good but only from a distance, the quality is quite poor, when it opens the upper part wobbles, the plastic used is thin & weak & the back cover does not close properly, the side keys for music & camera are hard to press though its good so that they won't get pressed accidentally but not that much that it won't press even if you wanted to. However the screen quality & the music quality is superb. It is also supplied with adapter for your hifi stereo head phones. Interacton with PC is quite easy. Camera is though only 1.3 but picture quality is good. The memory can be extended to 2Gb which is good for music & video lovers. It's a very good phone inside but if only the outside was well built.

Phones are not made so that ppl can sit on top of it so I guess easily breakable thing applies to all the phones. Considering all the features, this phone is not so good except for its excellent sound for music. Battery is also kind of OK. But I think considering the price we shud not expect a very high fi sophisticated model. I am quite satisfied with the phone.
