Tomorrow I would have had this phone for 1 year, it was my first phone I have ever had & when I was choosing a phone I was rather inexperienced in selecting the right phone for me. I was fooled into thinking it was a brilliant phone dues to its attractive appearance & simply because it's a Nokia. I can confidently say it is the worst phone I have ever used, I was extremely disappointed & ashamed. I couldn't exchange music via Bluetooth as Nokia couldn't support this file type, the camera was terrible, Internet slow & pathetic. I have tried my friend's phone & I am SO happy to be getting a new one. I really was & am disappointed in Nokia for making this rubbish phone.

Design. This phone is so thin that it can easily slide into the pocket. Its candy colour makes it more appealing. The screen, however, is very much a fingerprint magnet.

Features. It is packed with some quite useful features. For connection, it only readily supports (default) Bluetooth connection. It has USB slot but it has limited USB connectivity. Java developers will have problems if this is one of their target devices. On device debug, if not impossible, is very difficult for both USB & Bluetooth connection with this handset. Since the memory is very small, only a handful of applications will be able to be installed in this handset.

Usability. The keys are soft. Light is very visible during day & night. Like most Nokia handsets, text & call functionality are very simple to use. The problem with the usage is that the refresh rate of the screen is very slow. Sometimes the redraw on the screen takes about half a second. Scrolling up, down, (or left, right) is very slow.

Bought this phone last January. After a couple of months things started to go wrong. When I chose a ring tone from the ones available it didn't work & reverted back to the Nokia tune. Sometimes the phone would just go dead & I couldn't get anything on screen. I had to remove the battery then it came back on. The screen kept on going white. I took it back to the shop but was told that they would have to send it back to Nokia for repair & would take a few weeks. I protested as I thought as it was still under guarantee that they should replace it. They refused. The second time I went into a shop in Liverpool. The assistant was very polite & said yes there was a problem with the software on this particular model & they would repair it free of charge, but I would be without it for several weeks. Again I protested. Since then I have been in two other shops & complained, they didn't even know there was a software problem, but told me it could be repaired free of charge but it would take several weeks. I am very disappointed with the situation & have decided to go & buy another phone.

I gave design 90% since the phone is quite attractive to look at. It would be even better if the screen was slightly larger therefore would have got 100%.

I gave features 60% because of its applications, FM radio & Bluetooth. The reason I decreased the score so dramatically is because of its poor 12MB memory.

I gave usability 100% since this is probably one of the easiest handling phones you can get. It is one of the best phones for older kids for a first phone.

Overall the Nokia 5000 is good.

Chloe.

Bought this phone as a Christmas gift for my Boyfriend, 3 weeks later the screen doesn't work anymore. Took it back & was told the screen is not covered in the warranty.

He puts his phone in his back pocket, has a LG Chocolate for 3 years that is always stored in his back pocket & had no issues. I have a Samsung E250 that also goes into my back pocket, gets drop 15 times a day, get soccer kicked across the hall as it falls quite often & never ever had a problem.

Since when does Nokia make such rubbish phones? Will Never EVER buy Nokia AGAIN!

Very disappointed with this phone, couldn't change the ring tones, every time I tried saving the new tone the screen kept going black & wouldn't save the changes. Exchanged it for another one & this one was no better, the camera wouldn't work. Considering I always bought a Nokia phone I wouldn't advise anyone to buy the Nokia 5000.

This phone is a waste of money. It has just 11 Mb of usable memory which is NOT expandable either. There is not much functionality except a poor 1.3 megapixel camera which can not be used on account of low memory. The OS is slow to respond. The only good thing about it is the looks of it. The battery compartment is poorly designed & can cause damage to battery & the phone whenever you remove the battery.

The memory appears to be of a poor quality & fails suddenly, causing loss of data, loss of contacts, loss of messages & SMS, causing the phone to stop receiving & sending SMS. It does not support most of the Audio & Video formats & anyway your choices of listening to music is limited to number of your eyes because of low memory.

Moral of the story is, DO NOT BUY IT if you are looking for a serious phone.

I thought it was perfect, until I checked the memory status. I can't believe it only has 12MB memory. The memory is the only negative thing I can see in this mobile phone. Other than that, it's cool.

With reference to my previous post!

After much deliberation this phone has been taken back to shop, could not get used to it at all & it kept switching itself off & freezing despite a fully charged battery.

Changed to Samsung J700 & really pleased with that, wish I had got that one in the first place.

A cheap megapixel camera phone by Nokia, will be very good if it has external memory card feature. A multimedia phone with only 12 MB memory, needs more memory.
