I agree that the instructions are inadequate. First I wanted to deactivate that damned annoying predictive text function. The instructions told me to start at 'Options' but gave me no clue at all as to where to find 'Options'. I wasted hours tearing my hair out, searching through all the menus & finding nothing. Sometime later when I just happened to open the text message screen, there it was. AAARGH! WHY IN the BLAZES DON'T THEY TELL YOU THAT? Later on I accidentally reverted the display to Vietnamese which I can't read. The instructions say absolutely nothing at all about resetting the language so once again I just had to blunder around with the Vietnamese display trying this & that, & every other thing until I finally found the right window. Very annoying & quite inexcusable.

Firstly, is there no way I can load up a ringtone? Secondly to help those people who do not like to use predictive text there is a simpler way to cancel it rather than press the hash key twice every time you want to create a message. So go into messages, create a message, options, dictionary, dictionary off. Now EVERY time you create a message it will be standard, not predictive.

Can anyone help? I bought this phone yesterday (£17) & very pleased with it as I only needed a basic phone. Its a great little phone, but everytime I switch it on, I've lost my contact list! I've re-entered them 3 times now & when I switch off & on again, all I am left with are the pre-entered numbers that were already programmed into the phone. & yes, I AM saving after every entry. I don't want to have to leave it on all the time just so that I can send a text message to someone on my list. The little handbook that came with it isn't much help : (
Many thanks.

The Nokia 1208 is a great phone, & because it is very cheap, it doesn't have to be fancy. It does everything that is expected & has great battery life. The only thing I would add would be Bluetooth & a camera. A really easy phone to use & would be a very good first phone.

Pleasantly surprised by this phone :D.

The Nokia 1208 is an excellent basic phone which does what I expect my phone to do.

- Make calls! It does that.
- Text messaging! It does that, & the keys have a fantastic tactile feel to it.
- Battery Lasts a long time after charging! My old Phillips phone battery died on me because I always overcharged it overnight.

I miss having a camera on my phone. Other than that, I didn't expect much from this phone, & frankly, was pleasantly surprised. The battery life is outstanding. It does what it's supposed to, & at the price (I paid the equivalent of twenty pounds) you really don't expect much. FANTASTIC PHONE! Go buy it if you need a second phone or for your kids.

To those of you who asked how to disable predictive text, do this.

- Press Menu.
- Select Messages.
- Choose Create Message.
- Press the hash key HASH several times until you see the underline beneath the Pencil icon at the top left corner disappear. You should just see the pencil icon with no underline. To re enable predictive text, just press the hash key again several times.

This is a good phone but it needs a few adjustments.

- Great to text on & yes you can take off the predictive text feature just press the hash key twice & it is off.

- I hate the menu the menu is so much better on newer Nokia's with the grid view (I understand this cannot be possible due to the size of the screen).

Nokia if you read this I have a couple of tips for you.

- Put a radio & a VGA camera into the 1208 & it would be great.

- Put Snake Xenzia & rapid roll into all of your new phones they are fantastic old game & should be exploited.

In Conclusion. The 1208 is a good phone the flashlights good just put a few more things into it & bingo you've got a phone fit for the world.

Brilliant no frills phone. Had a Samsung E250 before but got fed up with its short battery life & poor sound quality. The Nokia can go a couple of weeks on standby & the sound is much better. The torch (flashlight) comes in very handy. The only thing I can find wrong with this phone is when you press a key to activate the screen the phone uses whatever key you have pressed. I also miss Bluetooth as I can't get any free ringtones without it.

Extremely basic phone. If you have no need to do anything but make calls & text, it's good, & you needn't spend anymore. Otherwise, if you want a decent address book, calendar & diary, or anything else, spend more money. For me, I don't care about cameras or web browsers really, but would like to record addresses for contacts & be able to have annual alerts for birthdays, etc. Which it doesn't do!

I do find the keypad really good for texting, & the torch light on the top is handy for me.

What a phone! Had a Samsung Tocco with all the fancy features & was so depressed by it that I went to the other end of the scale & got the cheapest phone in the shop.

No nonsense phone with crystal clear sound quality (unlike the Tocco) & seems to be invincible so far after quite a few falls.

Brilliant battery & the torch is a nice little feature which has come in handy on many occasion.

If you're after all the fancy gizmos like cameras & radios & web browsing, steer clear but if you want a phone that allows you to talk to people & text them & you don't want to spend a lot of money then look no further.

I just got this phone as my work place doesn't allow camera phones. There really isn't any amazing feature as this is a very basic phone, which is enough for my working needs. What I really like about this phone is its light weight, small dimension, large keypad (for easy text messaging), bright flashlight & most of all, it's very affordable. If only the screen were larger, this phone would be even better.

I got a 1208 after the battery of my 6010 died.

The 1208 is very light. The ring is rather quiet compared to the 6010.

Texting is terribly difficult because of the predictive text that cannot be disabled. The 6010 doesn't have this problem.

Audio of the 1208 is noticeably worse than the 6010, but still intelligible.

I am dumping the 1208 & will pay for a replacement battery for my 6010, whatever the cost.

I bought this mobile for my mother & she is in her 60's. It is very easy to use & for calls & texting, without needing all the other fussy stuff, that for old folk is useless anyway, it proved to be a great small & compact phone that you can count on & it does the job that a mobile was basically designed for. I plan to buy one for myself, just as an extra mobile, as it is a bargain & to be honest the Nokia N73 that I have just now can freeze on me at any point.

So yes, good rating for this one & a bargain too.

If you are looking for a really basic, cheap phone with outstanding battery life, then the Nokia 1208 could be the phone for you.

This phone is highly recommended for people who use their phones just to text or call because it is very simple to use. No camera here, no Bluetooth, no GPRS, no 3G, just a basic phone that does the basics very well. The Nokia 1208 would also be perfect for keeping in the car as an emergency phone, or as a spare back up phone in case your all singing, all dancing Quad Band, 3G, 5 megapixel slim line Smartphone happens to pack in (which incidentally has happened to me on several occasions!)

The Nokia 1208 is exceptionally cheap to purchase, it typically retails for between £15.00 to £30.00 in the United Kingdom (depending on whether you purchase it as a Pay As You Go phone or Sim Free), but I managed to find one for £9.99 on Orange Pay As You Go in one well known high street store, & the phone turned out to be unlocked, which was an added bonus.

This is a phone which does exactly what it says on the tin, nothing more, nothing less. If you want a basic phone that has a camera & Bluetooth, spend a little more & get a Nokia 2600 classic or Nokia 2630. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with this gem of a phone!

Recently my trusty Nokia 5110 finally gave up after years of sterling service. Having read that you've probably guessed I don't change mobiles unless I need to.

It's good to see Nokia still make a simple mobile that does the basics very well. It's reliable & has a decent battery life. A rarity these day's I am told.

The little 1208 does everything I need & at the huge price of £12 (with £5 credit) it's probably the best bargain you'll find on the High Street today.

It's a good low end phone. Not that ugly but yeah. TOTALLY LOW END!

Don't expect much from it. It only serves for making calls & using it as a lantern, nothing else.

Its keypad feels strange. I lost a lot of time trying to write a SMS. So I don't think it is very usable.

I do like Nokia phones but this one I would only recommend it if you don't want to spend money on a phone but must have one.

If money isn't the problem & you are the type that likes technology there are better options out there.

Just bought my 1208 today. Upgraded from my classic old Nokia 3310 & boy, do I love the configurable colours in the themes. The user configurable right key is also a very handy feature. There is a SMS count feature which is very useful for a person like me, to find out how many sms's I've been sending each month. On the cons, the phone charger connector is not the standard size that comes with most Nokia phones I've used up to now (it's almost pin sized.)

Overall I'd say that the features are great for the price & that I am more than satisfied. Thank you Nokia.

This is a complete retro trip for me, my thumb aches from playing snake so much. I shall be retaining this phone to use as my going out handset. I'll just slip my SIM into here, & if it is lost, stolen or broken it won't matter too much.

Only annoying thing is that I have mucked up my contact list, it is showing both my SIM card & phone contacts & each has a copy of all of my contacts, so I basically have doubles of every name in my contact book.

Probably not the phones fault though :).

This phone is the best, it does stuff I want it to, like make calls, & it doesn't do stuff which I don't need (MP3, photos, I have a camera & MP3 player for that) it has unusual but useful extras, the torch send the composer (I spent hours making my version of pachbells cannon).

Overall, it's the phone of my dreams, who cares about the iPhone.

Great phone. But how do you stop incoming calls coming up as private caller, when they are not? I never know who's calling me because it just comes up as private? Does anyone have an answer?

The phone's mains charger port keeps breaking off in the phone charger. It might be a cheapie, but Woolworths replaced once, but wouldn't a second time, & I am not rough with the plug for the pin to break off inside the charger adaptor. The design, therefore, & usability is rubbish. I can't charge the phone & can't use it. The little pin is so miniscule as to be barely thicker than a filament. No wonder it keeps breaking. Anyone else have this problem?

I got this from Tesco it was £13.31 & came with an £11 call time voucher! So it basically cost me £2.31.

It is GREAT! It has features that dearer phones don't have.

I previously used a Motorola 280i provided by my employer for about 4 years & they have given me the Nokia 1208 as a replacement. So my user experience is limited. I have found it difficult to navigate through the features. For example I have been trying to set the correct time. I stumbled across the settings which led to time setting & a clock face appeared. I set it to what I thought was the correct time but subsequently became aware it was 12 hours behind the correct time. I have not been able to find the settings key since. The small user book that I got with this phone does not provide enough detail for someone who is not use to handling these devices. I managed better with the older phone. Can anyone help with idiot guide to using this phone?

I may be 25 but all I need is a phone that makes calls, sends & receives texts & has good battery life. This phone is great. It's simple & easy to use. A must for anyone you just wants a phone to do what phones are supposed to do, make calls. I have an MP3 player for music & a camera for taking pictures so why would I need a phone that does all this as well.

Thank you Nokia, at last the perfect phone!

It's billed as NOT having FM. Therefore NOT having FM is a feature NOT a negative despite what a lot of reviewers here think. I wanted a phone to make phone calls not to listen to the radio, play music, play games, take pictures (I have something for that, it's called a camera) or surf the web (my iMac does that exceedingly well thank you). This phone does everything I wanted it to, I can make & answer calls & read & write texts. Brilliant!

I bought it only today, Feb 8, 2008 for the reason that I need to replace my old Smart amazing phone 2002. I read lots of good reviews for this phone & want to give it a try. It's not the usual 4 to 5-liner phone that I have used before but I am familiar with using the Classic Motorola GSM phones. Some of its features were copied from that. I have no problem with that. The only thing I noticed about this Nokia 1208 is the font features. It has SMALL & LARGE fonts to fit the users need especially those who have problems with their eyes. WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO SWICH BETWEEN the TWO FONT SIZES, IT DOESN'T WORK. I RETURN IT TO the STORE the VERY SAME DAY.I TRIED TO REPLACED the SAID UNIT BUT TO MY DISMAY, 10 OUT OF 10 UNITS HAVE the SAME PROBLEM. The BOX SAYS IT MADE IN INDIA. IF SOMEBODY FROM the Nokia COMPANY READ MY WRITE UP, KINDLY SHED LIGHT ON THIS PLEASE? ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO? IF I WILL HAVE IT REPROGRAMMED, WILL IT SOLVE MY PROBLEM? But generally, it is a basic phone that one should have. My verdict? IT IS A GOOD BASIC PHONE WITH the BASIC PHONE FEATURES-SLEEK, LIGHT, & USER-FRIENDLY.

I got this as a basic phone to make calls & send text. It is small & light & the battery lasts a long time, the simplified menu is excellent for making calls & texts. Nokia has taken previous designs of phones like 1110i & refined it & added the colour screen without losing standby time. Brilliant little basic phone!
