I have an iPhone & I bought this phone as a backup in case my iPhone got stolen etc. One day my boss asked if he could use the phone as a demonstration & I said yes as if anything happened I would have my Nokia. He dropped & smashed the iPhone & gave me double the money to buy myself another one. I had to use my Nokia for one day & decided that the phone was excellent, don't tell my boss but I spent the money on a trip to Gleneagles in Scotland!
Buy this phone as it is great for the money! Don't bother with an iPhone! I Hope this review tells you that the dear iPhones aren't worth the money & all you need is a phone that you can trust!

This is a normal basic phone. Not too many bells & whistles. If you're a texter then this is the phone for you. But the keypads gets rubbed off easily, but all in all a good, cheap & basic phone.

The only good thing is that it is quite easy to use.

I don't know how you people call this phone a basic phone. No normal ringtone. On off switch is rubbish & on & on. I wouldn't give this phone to my ex girlfriend, thats how unbasic this phone is.

Basic phone, Yeah right. No basic ring tone. Volume not loud enough. Poor design of the on off button. Button right on the front of the phone. This is not a BASIC phone. A basic phone has basics. PERIOD!

I wanted a simple, basic mobile phone that allowed me to make phone calls, & texts. This does exactly that. I do not want or need a mobile that is also an FM radio, MP3 player, megapixel camera, PDA etc.
The 1112 serves my needs perfectly. It has a good clear screen which can be read even in strong sunlight, a very long battery life, good loud ring tones, smart but simple design. As a budget mobile this is unbeatable in my opinion.
I paid a mere £14.99 for it (which included a special offer of 200 free airtime minutes! ) which made it a superb bargain.
If you want a basic mobile phone, get this one.

Where's the normal ring tone? How do you delete the tone in the Composer menu that you put in & want to take out? On off button in front of phone is terrible. All you have to do is breath on it & it either goes off or on. I know it's a cheap phone but these our BASIC items on mobile phones. Nokia fell asleep on this phone. O yeah the manual is rubbish too. This is my third Nokia phone & maybe my last one.

Having tried for months to find a mobile which I could actually hear ringing in the middle of Asda on a Saturday afternoon & which didn't entail carrying a mobile battery charger around with me, I finally succeeded with the Nokia 1112.
It does not have all the bells & whistles of your Samsung & Sony Ericsson's but if you want a phone which does what it is supposed to do (make & receive calls)then go for it. It even has a speaking clock for goodness sake.

I would recommend this phone to every die hard mobile phone fan. This is a rubbish phone to me as I am a geek but I would still recommend this to anyone who wants a phone to last a month with a single charge. Very cheap & affordable. Doesn't break even if you throw it down from the empire state building! The present cost is £9.99 plus a basic £10.00 necessary top up. Seems incredible that the top up is costlier than the phone (by 1 pence).

Not a bad phone I got one temporally as I couldn't quite afford a high end phone at the time I still have it after 5 months. The phone is fairly small & comfortable to hold. It's also very reliable & robust. Mine has seen a few drops & only it's only got a few scratches to the case. The battery life is also excellent I can leave this phone for more than a week before it needs charging again even with a lot of use.
As for features it lacks even the more common features you would expect to see on a phone like a colour screen or a camera but this is a cheap & simple phone, it's good for a temporary replacement or if you really couldn't care less about the latest gadgets that you really don't need. But this phone is great for messages & phone calls if that's what you only use a phone for this is you.

Basic phone which is tough, the battery lasts ages & is cheap & not likely to get stolen. To all people saying this is rubbish & to get a Sony Ericsson or similar you are a not right to buy this phone expecting such a wide range of features.
I love this after downgrading from a Nokia 6230, its basic but everything it does have works well & the credit it has on it is worth more than the phone itself so I am not worried about it being nicked or broken. This phone is basically the same as the old Nokia bricks but smaller, better reception, better ringtones & better battery life.

I am looking for a simple phone without a camera because the during basic training in the army camera devices aren't allowed. The Nokia 1112 looks like a great fit, simple yet effective with all the features ill need. (Makes calls & sms's).
When I was slightly younger I used to enjoy buying all the newest & greatest phones for their technologies & gizmo's but with all that the amount of problems that comes with them is outstanding & irritating.
So I shall be purchasing the Nokia 1112.

I really can't believe some of the reviews here.
An inexpensive basic phone is being judged by several people as if it is a several hundred pound phone. Judge it for what it is & for what it is intended to be- an inexpensive basic phone. It has good battery life, good reception, loud alarms, & little else. That is its beauty- It's a phone. Not a camera. Not an MP3 player. Not a pda.
Judge phones for what they are. & this one is very good at what its intended place in the market is. If you want the fancy things then this is *not* the phone you should be buying & judging- that just shows your own shortcomings, not the phones. & several of you have shown those shortcomings, haven't you? Shame.
It is a basic phone, only a basic phone. But it is a good one with a good battery life. At a very good price. Poor reviews are more generally relevant to the reviewer than the phone.
Well done Nokia!

I bought the 1112 in Malaysia on travel when I lost my phone. Because there was nothing available at a reasonable price that would work on 850 MHz when I returned, I wanted to buy the cheapest phone I could get. But I found that this little phone is actually one of my most favorite phones. No it doesn't do fancy things, but it works very well as a phone (which is of course what it is designed to be first). Others have complained about the instructions being poor, but folks this thing is so easy to use that my technophobic 82 year old father could use it WITHOUT any instructions!
I have since bought a Cingular 8525 (HTC TyTN) for the US as I do use push email for work, but I still find myself strongly drawn to this simple, LIGHT, functional, long battery lived, durable phone.
If all you want to do is phone & text, why would you spend more for less?
Oh & I LOVE the speaking alarm clock - I still use mine for that, even without a SIM in it :).

Nice small, cheap & very easy to use phone. Cost me £19.99. What do lots of people like me an older person, want in a phone, yes very easy to use, texting very easy, light in weight, nice large easy to use keys, long battery life & also a lot easier to turn on & off than the older model Nokia phones I owned e.g. they had a large awkward button on top of the phone. I used this phone in Mauritius on holiday & it was as clear as a bell for ringing back home & also for local calls. To some of the moaners about this phone I say ''Get real'' if you want a camera phone with all the gimmicks, pay the inflated price for your toy. This is a great easy to use phone for a bargain price for kids, elderly people & all the rest of us who just want a phone. If you want a camera & games machine included, then look elsewhere & pay the high price. If you are like me & just want to make phone calls & send some text messages phone & it's just an ideal phone.

But I am writing this to report one niggle, you know how difficult it was to switch the old Nokia's on? Nokia has made a great, simple & one of most user friendly cells. It is admitted that its not one of most advanced instruments but it is best for all the included feature at least all features that are present are working. It has great signal strength, more battery time, & sober tones.
It leaves sensible impression on the user. I am using this set for last 3 months it has fell down several times but its working like as it was new. It's a lovely handset to hold, a light weighted nice phone.

I've owned the RAZR, the Palm Treo 650, & most recently, the VX8600. I admit to being a gadget freak & do like those phones, but with every new feature comes a new set of problems. I use my phones primarily for text messaging & reminders. The Nokia 1112 isn't feature-rich, but the features it does have work very well. Text messaging is easy & intuitive, the daily alarm clock is great & has the ability to only set it for any number of days per week (e.g.; Monday thru Friday), etc. The speakerphone is cool, the ringtones are. Well there are a lot of ringtones, but they cannot be assigned to the daily alarm, text messages or reminders, only the ringer. That's about the only thing that disappoints me, but I've had greater disappointments with the other phones I mentioned. The Nokia 1112 is a basic phone, which is one reason it's a $30 phone & not a $300 phone. Big difference in price if you want a camera, Internet access, email, & the whole 9 yards. I previously owned the Nokia 1100 model, which the 1112 is an upgrade from, & of all the phones I've had to date, I've been the most satisfied with these two Nokias. Buy it for $30 from Walmart. If you don't like it, return it when your free 80 minutes is out (or within 90 days). Two thumbs up!

I used to have a fairly expensive camera phone, which I lost & decided to replace it with a mobile which was cheap & cheerful. I found that the Nokia 1112 was a competent piece of kit that was easy to operate & quite good at performing the basic functions that people use a mobile phone for. My only complaint is that the instruction booklet is totally useless. It goes into battery usage & where not to use the phone in great depth, but completely ignores some of the more important issues. Many of the settings & facilities are not mentioned at all in the booklet, which makes getting the most out of the phone impossible.

I am a typical Nokia user (female, middle-aged or older) who doesn't want a camera or radio in the phone. I just want something dead simple easy to use like my old Nokia 3410. I had this for several years but decided to get a new phone when the little hole where you put the charger in got loose & you had to keep checking it hadn't popped out plus it took 3 hours to charge. I am very happy with the 1112, it only takes 2 hours to charge & lasts about 11 days whereas my old one only lasted 3. So if you're elderly & worried about getting a mobile phone I would definitely to use no frills phones, I hope you always bear this market in mind.

A good basic phone for doing what you expect to do with a phone, making & receiving phone calls! If you want a camera buy a camera not a phone. I can't believe people are writing bad reviews. It's sold & marketed as a basic phone for people who don't want loads of bells & whistles, & it does just what it advertises.
Nice one Nokia.

This phone is naff, it really is. It has no Bluetooth, no camera, no colour NO NOTHING. I mean it has no features at all! The sound doesn't go up high, you can't put your own ringtones on it & it's a waste OF MONEY, the phone is really naff.

Isn't this phone all about basics! No it doesn't have a camera, Bluetooth or any other 'essential' feature. I got my Nan this phone & that's all it is. A phone. It makes & receives calls & sends texts. It's all any 83 year old needs.
Nice simple design, with big buttons & a very very simple menu system. No power draining colour screen so the battery should last well over a week & if previous monochrome Nokia's are anything to go buy then the battery should last over 2 weeks without a charge.
I am looking at the 1101 as a basic backup phone if anything happens to my N70 or MDA Compact 2, great to have a basic phone in the glove box.
All those people that are moaning that the phone lacks features, please stop as if you want cameras & Bluetooth & Wi-Fi then simple. Don't look at £20 phones.

YOU CANNOT ARGUE THAT the PRICE IS GREAT FOR SUCH A BUDGET PHONE. I WILL USE MINE FOR WORK, WHERE LONG BATTERY LIFE & EASE OF USE IS PARAMOUNT. The PHONE IS EASY TO USE & WILL APPEAL TO CORPORATE USERS TO GIVE OUT TO STAFF AS A GENERAL DAY TO DAY (SIMPLE CALL & ANSWER UNIT). SOME USER DO NOT NEED the LATEST GADGETS & GIZMO'S, SO THIS PHONE APPEALS TO YOUNG & OLD.

I shall be using the 1112 to replace our old 1100s. I cannot see the point of wasting money, time & energy on features that our workforce will not use or wants. They need a good easy to use mobile, that's what they will get with this mobile.

This phone is good & easy to use the only down side is the composer you can't find any decent sites for the notes. This should be the first phone for your kids, as there is no wap. They can only make calls or send texts.

Actually this is the best phone among all of its kind. But it has two drawbacks:
1) You can't move messages directly to your drafts. You have to edit it & then save it, and then you have to delete original messege.
2) The ringing volume is low rather then the other sets of its kind.

Although this Nokia 1112 does not have the most advance & update technology or features like camera, MP3 or Bluetooth transmission, it actually really played the role of the traditional mobile phone, sleek, simple easy to use. It will be much perfect if it restore the classic ringtone like "ringring" or "low" as that in old 8210.

Cliff Hanaford may feel that the latest phones should contain the latest technology, but I am currently shopping for a replacement mobile for my father-in-law who is in his 70's. His old mobile phone has a dead battery & a half-dead screen. All he wants is a working mobile with a clear screen, simple menu & big buttons. The 1112 seems just right.

Great phone, like the plain look, like the light blue coloured handset, monochrome screen is old but reliable, ringing tone composer will be fun, MP3 & polyphonic ringing tones, speaking clock will get me out of my bed in the morning. Will get this phone as soon as it is released in United Kingdom.

I am fed up with reading about new phones that are so dull. It can't be me alone that feels like this about phone manufactures. The latest phones should be full of the latest mobile phone technologies shouldn't they...
