This is a great handset if you want a phone that primarily does phone things but still covers the extra stuff when you need it.

I've had the handset for a year & it's in basically perfect physical condition, just some little scuffs, so no complaints about the build quality. It's slim, light, & works well in one hand.

Call volume can go very loud with the easily accessible volume keys, & the microphone cuts out background noise well (I can have a conversation while walking along a busy road where my old phone was no use at all). The number pad has a sensible design so dialling & texting is fine, although not as nice as on an old 3310. The vibrate function is useless; I've had the phone in my trouser pocket & not been able to feel it. Don't get this model if vibrate is important to you.

Navigating around the features is easy, & there are plenty of keys you can assign shortcuts to.

The external screen lights up with a nice big clock (or a symbol if something's happened) when you press the volume key to wake it up. I'd rather just have an old-school monochrome screen for the external one that's always on, but no one's going to do that anymore so this is probably the next best thing. The heartbeat function is a nice touch, but if the phone's sitting on my desk with the hinge pointing away from me it's possible to miss the flashes.

Web browsing is OK. In the default browser I found it pretty slow, often frustratingly so, but you also get Opera Mini which is suitable to use when you don't need the connection to be secure, & that gets around the web very well. The screen is quite small for browsing but it works if you just want to look stuff up now & then.

I tried using the included email program but it would only download messages when I sent one. There might have been a way to sort that out, but I switched to Gmail's app, which works well. You don't want to be sending emails all that much though; apart from having to use the number pad, there doesn't seem to be a way to insert a line break.

The camera's suitable for MMS or snapping something if you don't have a real camera with you, but it can't compete with a basic compact.

Having GPS on a phone in this price range is lovely. It's always been good at finding me except for once in the middle of Manchester. Nokia maps aren't so good that I'll leave the A to Z at home if I know I'll want to look at a map, but they work well enough if I don't have anything for the area.

The battery lasts a few days if I just make a few calls, but it goes down quickly if I spend some time browsing or playing games. It always does what I need to until I can get home & charge, though.

The software mostly does its job without a fuss, but sometimes the select button & the red key stop working & I have to remove the battery to reboot. I usually notice when I've written a text & want to send it, which is annoying as there's no way to either send or save without those buttons. Also, at first I couldn't reliably remove the battery cover without wearing rubber gloves (which should work for any difficult slide off covers, by the way), but either something's loosened or I've got the knack now & its fine. Anyway, this problem happens irregularly, but on average I think about once a month. I've also had the phone reboot itself during a call 2 to 3 times in the year I've had it. I hardly ever turn the phone off except when it goes wrong, so if it was turned off regularly it might behave better.
Some minor things annoy me. The screen fades after 10 seconds & goes off after 30, which I think is too soon & isn't adjustable. The web browser comes with bookmarks to sites like Ovi & MySpace, which go above the ones you add yourself & can't be deleted. If you download an application you can't give it permanent permission to access the network, so I have to allow Gmail to go online every time I use the app.

It's not a perfect phone, but it does its job pretty well & for the price I am very happy with it.

I have had this phone now for around 6 months & its a brilliant phone, it is easy to use, has large buttons, so not fiddly when texting, its loud & clear & does everything it says it does. Only downfall is the battery does run low quickly, but that depends on how much usage it has, & like some have said its a small phone & small battery, but small price to pay for a really lovely phone.

Best thing about this phone is that the earpiece volume & ringer volume are louder than most mobile phones so it's easy to hear a call coming in & easy to hear the caller even in a busy subway station. Call quality is very good & the phone has a recorder that can be set at the touch of a button to record both sides of a phone call so when aunt nelly calls with that recipe & you don't have a pen & paper handy no problem. Have read people complain about battery life but this phone has a larger screen than most clamshells which makes print & numbers larger so you can see even without your glasses & since the phone is thin so therefore can't fit a large battery you will have to plug it in every second day if you use it a lot. Considering the other features I don't mind that. & because of the quality of materials this phone feels good in the hand.

Great phone. Battery life little short but that is because if you want a thin small phone you have to settle for a smaller battery. Voice clarity as good as the best sounding cells but is certainly serviceable. Headset volume & ringer volume are louder than most mobile phones. Screen 2.2 inches, most clamshells only 1.7 inches & print size large enough for older eyes.

All in all lovely phone.

This phone has all I want. The GPS is powerful enough. Only issue is battery life which could be better. Earlier reviewer said that there's a lag when opening e.g. SMS's but with the new firmware the lag has almost disappeared. Oops, one thing I don't understand is voice dialling! There's no way to say the contacts name & then link it to the contact. Hope I am wrong!

Bought this phone as a gift to wife. Incoming calls clarity very clear. Built in speaker sounds great too. Love the Java music player & equalizer settings. Not tried maps as yet.

On to cons, noticed signal strength bit weak sometimes, especially when compared to my Moto flip. Only one alarm can be set & that too at a pre set volume, a big con for us as we use the phone alarm quite often. Had some difficulty finding other Bluetooth device. Camera does not allow self portrait in fold position (using the external display like my Moto & an older Samsung flip). Interface is good, but can be better.

On the whole, pros outweigh the cons & it seems like a good buy, so far.

Excellent phone, went on holiday to Thailand & put a local SIM card in it, worked a treat.

Had old clamshells from Nokia & been waiting for another good one from them.

Had touch phones, QWERTY phones, couldn't get on with any of them. This beats them all for everyday use.

Only little complaint is the fixed focus camera, whilst it works pretty good, I will look forward to a auto focus next time on a clamshell.

Great device. Feels solid in the hand but light in the pocket. Others have complimented the keyboard & screen, I personally agree much better than my last Motorola flip phone!

Highly recommended.

I got this phone on Monday in pink. I just hate touch screen phones & there is not an awful lot out there now that are not touch screen, so when I saw that Nokia had brought out a brand new fold I had a look & decided to get it. I loved the look of it as soon as I opened the box. Inserting the battery & memory card was a doddle. Being a Nokia it's really easy to use. It's 3G, & you get maps too. I absolutely love this phone. Unless you need a phone for business use then I recommend this one whole heartedly. Does everything you want it do for personal use. Love it.

Great phone to have & use, had some issues though, the USB is not supported so you'll have to use Bluetooth to link with a PC, Maps? Seems you have to pay for this as an extra & after 7 weeks & countless calls with Nokia it still has no mapping, otherwise a great machine for calls & messages & easy to use.

I love the look of this phone, especially in plum. The flip is quite sturdy & a feature that appeals to me. I chose this model more for look than features but still expected a reliable phone for calls & text.

I first noticed a problem when trying to get the back off the phone to put my SIM in, the back is impossible to get off & on! I had my techie friends try for about half an hour & eventually got it off without breaking it.

Six days in & I started noticing issues, the battery runs out after a day (yes I did fully recharge on arrival), there was a really annoying lag when opening messages & then all of a sudden my buttons froze. First my power, hang up button & then the centre menu button. I struggled to get the cover off & a hard power cycle fixed the issue.

This happened again two days later so I am going to have to send it in to get repaired. Unfortunately don't stock in Australia so that will leave me without a phone for several weeks.

Apart from that I found the interface great, as with most Nokia's & the buttons were quite grippy. Perhaps a little too spaced out for me though.

Got this phone today from Play com. It's brilliant! Really small & neat & the large buttons are great for texting. It does everything you want it to do. Call clarity is great & the ringtone is really loud. The only slight negatives are that it doesn't have HSDPA (fast Internet connection), it doesn't have a text message drafts folder & I am worrying that the navigation buttons could die after a while.

But other than that it's the best phone I have had in years!
